Sam & Powers
I can never articulate how disappointing it was for Supernatural to focus so much of their time and effort on Sam’s powers and everything that comes with it in the first 2 seasons only to bring it back in season 4 and even season 5 even more in depth than before to then just drop it after that and only mention it once every 2 seasons. I feel like it was such a core theme in the beginning of the show that was used so well to tie up what they thought was going to be the season finale in season 5 that once they realized they were going to continue the show they decided it would become too boring or repetitive or something to use more when they were SO wrong. Sure if that’s ALL they focused on then that would make sense but what they did didn’t make any sense at all because how can you take something that was such a big part of one of the main characters and erase it all? One of the things that drew me to Sam’s character in the first place and that helped cement me as a Sam girl was the fascination with his powers that he was slowly coming to terms with. What made his powers different than a lot of other pieces of media that I’ve consumed is the concept that they were forced upon him by a DEMON through his BLOOD! How is that not compelling?? He literally states in the show that he has a sickness that is pumping through his veins that he can never get rid of so why shouldn’t he do good with them? Like !! There was so much potential here!! I’ve always felt when they said that Azazel’s death just...made Sam’s powers “go away” it was a flimsy excuse to get rid of them and only use that plot when they felt like it (i.e drinking demon blood) but if they never had Sam’s powers function like that they could have created a whole plot where Sam comes to terms with his powers and realizes they aren’t going away but they aren’t inherently bad, that he can choose what he wants to do with them, re cementing his autonomy that is so often lacking in the series!! He chooses to help people with these powers (without needing to drink demon blood) and explores them and accepts them!! The route that the show ended up taking never sat well with me because it felt like he just internalized his powers because of what other characters said about it and how people literally tried to kill him because of it and that just feels wrong. Like the show tried so hard to just magically turn him into this Normal Guy TM when Sam is Not Normal and that was the whole point!! He deserved to be as freaky and as comfortable with it as he wanted!! And then in season 15 I almost felt like they were going to do something freakish with his character again because of Rowena’s comment about him being the “closest to a witch” among the characters in the room and then she left her spells and potions and everything TO SAM and it would’ve been so cool to have him dabble in witchcraft and would make so much sense with his character yet he uses them once and then it’s never mentioned again. By the end of the show he’s living this normal life when after everything he went through and everything he discovered about himself throughout 15 YEARS, I don’t think that’s what he would’ve wanted anymore. Supernatural had so many brilliant ideas & concepts which is why I think I’ve continued to be so obsessed and intrigued by this goddamn show, but so so many shortcomings.

Agent H's Book Reactions
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Revolution is rising in the districts of Panem as Katniss and Peeta are selected again for the Hunger Games Quarter Quell
-Unfair, that only Gale calls Katniss Catnip. I, too, would like to call her Catnip
-It's really fun reading the love triangle through the lens of what each boy represents (Gale: rage and rebellion, Peeta: hope and peace) because it so beautifully serves Katniss' emotions and journey. She chooses Gale when she decides to join the rebellion instead of running. She holds on to Peeta in the Capitol/Games. etc. Genius character technique, Collins
-I completely understand why Collins wrote it this way, but I wish that the victory tour had been longer. Like it goes by in pretty much two pages. I was looking forward to them going to each district, because it would help us get to know each district better and see the rebellions first hand. And I think it could've raised some tensions if while on tour, District 12 was being cracked down on and Gale got in trouble, and there'd be nothing Katniss could do. It parallels watching the Games and emphasizes the hopelessness and violence the Capitol is trying to inflict
-Between the victory tour and the Quell announcement, I was really bored. It was important plot set up and I really appreciate how these books dedicate time to Katniss's trauma and emotional well-being. But it dragged on a bit too long for me.
-I really appreciate the posts that point how Rue is the true start of the rebellion, but I don't want to mistake that for the impression that her death matters more than her life. She was a young Black girl, she deserved to live :(
-At first I was like, ugh, this Games feels different than the first. But, duh that's the point!! The first part of this book is about the districts uprising. The second part of the book is the microcosm of the districts, the victors uprising. The Games feel different because it truly is the districts against the Capitol instead of each other
-They say that once the gong rings, the solidarity that the victors showed during the interviews will be gone. But then they're wrong!! Katniss and all work in a team, and they rebel against the Games by showing compassion and solidarity. It's the victors working together to rescue Katniss. It's Peeta consoling the dying victor. It's Katniss taking the time to clean and soothe Beetee and Wiress. It's joking around with Finnick. It's Finnick having Johanna's back. That's the revolution!!
-I like the first book's arena more for how it was so realistic, but I can appreciate just how batshit traumatizing this book's arena is. Who tf thinks of raining blood??? Also I like the set up of the District 12 electric fence to the arena's forcefield. And how them destroying the force field is the literal AND metaphorical destroying the games for good
-Really sometime I should sit down with this series and just connect all the different parallels and symbolisms and set ups
-Peeta continues to be the best and my favorite
-"If it weren't for the baby"- PEETA MELLARK IS THAT BITCH. I LOVE HIM
-Unsurprisingly, I am down bad for Johanna. I want her to step on me
-*Me @me*: You cannot adopt another gorgeous, witty, secretly tragic boy. *Me, sighing, knowing this will not end well, but putting Finnick Odair in my pocket anyway*
-I know it was for the escape plan, but it was so cute how Finnick was obsessively counting the bread each time
-I couldn't tell if Finnick knew the truth on the baby thing, but I thought it was adorable that he seemed to so earnestly believe Katniss' lies, e.g., the baby, hearing the forcefield
-The whole hearing the force field thing is so funny because it has no significance to the plot, it's just Katniss overthinking things again and then having to keep up the lie
-I love Katniss and Peeta so much. They're so ride-or-die for each other before ever having real feelings (on Katniss's part at least) involved. Like the foundation of the relationship is just pure human empathy and friendship in the face of unimaginable circumstances. God damn
-I also really love how as much as Peeta gives Katniss hope, she also gives him hope. She saves him in the games. She makes life in District 12 worth living. It's not just one-sided, they save each other. Couples who mutually inspire each other to live=Top Tier
-I got confused on the ending, but why wasn't Peeta at the tree with Beetee? Finnick went after Johanna and Katniss after they realized the wire was cut. So I can get that Peeta would've wanted to go after them too, but Beetee would've insisted that he stayed put, right? Do they ever explain this?
-See, the rebellion rescuing Katniss feels less like plot armor to me than I think other books would've made it feel, mainly I think because Finnick and Johanna were still down to kill Katniss if it came to it and District 13 is very much also just using her in their Games
-Ohhh, the ending with Haymitch hurts so much. Because Peeta says that he lied to one of them about which one he'll keep alive. And we, like Katniss, know that he lied to Peeta because he agreed that it's Peeta's turn to live. But as much as he loves Peeta, turns out he lied to Katniss and us. The betrayal is real T^T
-The movie gives a cleaner explanation on why Katniss and Peeta can't know about the rescue plan
-Because I rewatched the movie immediately after finishing the book, Strokes of genius from the movie: 1) The little girl saying she wants to volunteer like Katniss (scariest moment of the movie) 2) The graffiti "the odds were never in our favor" 3) The shot of Johanna and Finnick leaning on the tree as they decide on Beetee's plan
-While rewatching, I saw a comment that was like "I can see how these books are beginning to reflect now in our real time." And I was like, hmm, yeah, like obvs we're not having children killing each other in an arena anytime soon (though we seem to be okay with children dying from gun violence and police brutality *side-eye*), but the series' themes of media, propaganda, and violence are very much in play now
-I think Hunger Games should absolutely be taught in dystopian fic sections of literature classes alongside things like 1984 and Brave New World (admittedly, Hunger Games was a little too disturbing for me as a young teen, but then again Brave New World was a little disturbing to me as a young teen SO)

It's a liberating and devastating realization for Pat and Pran: parents are often wrong. They can make mistakes, they can condemn your happiness, they can lie. They can set a rule for you, and you can break it in ways they could have never imagined. They can instill hatred in you, and love can pick away at its gnarled tendrils thorn by thorn.
How can the boy next door be a liar if he is selflessly kind? How can the boy next door be a cheater if he makes you so damn happy? How can he be jealous if he is your equal? How can you stay away if you're meant to outdo him at every turn? How can he be your enemy if you like him?
Pat and Pran really said: in the shadow of our parents, what choice do we have but to find each other and make light? In the wake of all the choices they've made for us, what else can we be but greedy—it's not enough to be rivals, it's not enough to be friends. In the face of unfair filial bullshit we fall madly in love.
We can't change the world???? The world can't change us!!!!!!

OH
MY
GOD
It feels wrong to say every week how incredible that was, how much it has wrecked me, how speechless I am, because my words will end up becoming meaningless. But the show has topped itself AGAIN (no pun intended) and I am yet again wrecked. I honestly won't survive if it continues like this...for SEVEN more episodes. I need 6000 years to process. And even then I probably won't come close to articulating how this show has made me feel.
That ending though? It was too much for me (in a bad and a good way, if that makes sense). I felt privy to something I shouldn't have been. It was way too intimate for outside eyes. It reduced me to a blushing maiden, drawing my body in on itself, and watching through my fingers. If I blushed any more my cheeks would explode.
God, Mile and Apo deserve ALL the awards. Fu*k.

I was just catching up on @somerandomdudelmao’s apocalyptic series & something just occurred to me!!!
[spoilers up to ep 16 pt 9]
Mikey couldn’t find Donnie’s soul when he died in the apocalypse but Casey jr was able to find it in his memories. & Jr isn’t just in the past/new-present/whatever, he’s in a completely separate timeline! I don’t think our boi is just pulling them from his love & connection to them, I think he’s pulling them from the og timeline!!!
The first to cross the stream acting as a bridge for the others. Our future not just disappearing from all but memories, instead escaping to the reality of their dreams <3

Ok guys let’s not get crazy pls. Jesse Pinkman is definitely homophobic lol. For like at least the entire 1st season. It’s my personal hc that meeting Jane and falling in love w her actually chilled him out like she seems ok w the gays lol. But Jesse is not this perfect guy w perfect opinions I feel like he’s actually sort of the opposite? Especially at the start he’s often painted as kind of unreasonable to contrast w Walter being the reasonable one, as per our expectations? (Which then get subverted later in the show as Jesse is shown more and more to be reasonable and Walter to be a crazy manipulative dick.) Anyways yeah it’s clear he has a shitty relationship w his parents that he is at least partially at fault for and he literally cooks meth for a living before Walter even came along which is totally awesome for him but I mean let’s not pretend it’s good. Let’s not pretend he’s a good guy from the start. That’s what makes him compelling!! His character development!!! He‘a a complex character and I feel like it honestly does kind of a disservice to him to like. Woobify him?

Like I'm not one of those story "critics" who will nitpick the smallest inconsistency and call it a plot hole that ruins the whole story. I'm okay with inconsistencies and even the occasional plot hole if it ends up producing a story that's interesting, gripping, and brings up interesting things.
The problem is that suspension of disbelief only stretches so far. And secondly, stuff like character drama and themes are only as strong as the plot that supports them. If the plot is full of contrivances, plot holes, and really stupid things that make it feel like the author is just forcing something to happen to move the story along, then the themes and character drama become much less convincing.
#squiggposting#anyways i do like problematic idw op and i do like it when he has enemies and ppl who don't trust him#but not when the plot to make ppl hate him is stupid as shit and barely makes any sense#or when optimus does something mildly dubious and people act like he personally tortured their families and then murdered them#or like when characters are oddly hostile to OP/the autobots but are perfectly fine working with far worse ppl#like how the humans were all 'fuck the autobots theyre evil' but were fine with helping the cons build a fucking base???#after the decepticons already killed 1 billion humans??? including soundwave who is one of their main liasons???#if the humans really didn't trust the decepticons then why didn't they just say 'fuck you you can't build a base in our solar system'#or like that stupid publicity plot point about how OP 'abandoned' jazz when like.#so you're telling me OP can't defend jazz for killing one. ONE cop in self defense#but it's not bad publicity for him to associate with soundwave who. let me repeat. was literally on the ground slaughtering humans in AHM#spike even knew about how that entire situation with the cop was a trap laid by megtron but somehow that never came up in the whole comic#it's just so dumb man like it feels sometimes more like its an IDW OP hate train and actual logic is secondary to making OP look like an as#also galvs being all like 'that's my boy' when OP annexed earth when galv is a racist boomer grandpa who kills organics for sports#i refuse to believe that guy would be impressed by anything less than OP personally murdering a human. not making them part of cybertron's#gov. you know? it's just silly#it's part of why i've been putting off rereading barber's comics because it was weird and contrived the first time#and i don't really want to put myself through rereading it again just to have to suffer through shitty plot again#so many things in that series couldve been genius if they were written in a plot that wasn't aggressively mid tier

I think Arcane is my first ever fandom where tropes 'time travel' and 'characters watch the show' not only don't work as a fix-it, they can straight up make it worse.
Which is ironic since the whole plot of the series happened because people wanted to do things for the better, to help others, but we ended up where we ended up.

god im remembering my one post about how i mentioned sexual assault and misogyny in trigun, but i didnt know how to describe it in a post out of fear of someone replying "Well, it's there to show the world is gritty", and someone commented asking me to elaborate, and then their response back when i did try and point out what i meant DID essentially say "actually, its good because it describes the world well" 😭😭

May we see your Headcanon for Henry?
this finally gave me the drive to finish the Henry!Lore it's great what demand does to a mf
Tumblr media
Henry is a long, fast engine. He has a thoroughbred look and like all thoroughbreds, tends to be somewhat highly strung and prone to illness. But he has a new shape now, and sympathetically driven, he will give any engine a run for its money. Though his temperament has been made famous over the years, he’s a bit of a worrier, but he works hard on the Main Line and will give any engine a run for their money.
NAME: Henry (nee Henry Regaby “Regina”) NUMBER: NWR No 3 OPERATOR: North Western Railway BASIS: LMS Stanier Class 5MT 4-6-0 Tender Engine - Rebuilt from NWR “White Elephant” Class 4-6-2 Tender Engine circa 1935 GENDER: Trans-Masculine - He/Him/His ORIENTATION: Homo-Romantic (Gay) - Espoused to Bear EYE COLOUR: Amber LINE: Sudrian Main Line
Original Sprites by Princess-Muffins, Cj-The-Creator, Diamond-Jubilee, wyattloughrie, RedEngineStudioNo5, & DemonOfNowhere.
Any & All Modifications made by Myself, LeatherBootlace.
Keep Reading Below for More Lore!
[[HISTORY]] Henry was built as the original Flagship Engine for the North Western Railway, but his steaming troubles and various other issues left him relegated to lesser work on the railway. This would continue for some time until the Fat Controller purchased a special surplus of Welsh Coal for the poor engine, allowing him to work wonders for the Main Line. But one dark winter morning, the infamous Killdane Rail Disaster occurred, leaving Henry in critical condition. He was sent to Crewe to be repaired and rebuilt, with Hatt using the event as an opportunity to remedy much of his original faults. When Henry returned, he was a healthier and happier engine, ready to tackle whatever job given to him. Henry’s new place in the railway family meant he was now a true workhorse for the railway, and he quickly became the backbone of goods traffic across the island. Though proud of this, Henry at times felt his work went unappreciated, especially by the likes of Gordon & James. At some point during the 1980s, Henry was moved to the sheds at the Other End of the Line, which briefly caused a stir with the Big Engines. Though some *cough* Gordon *cough* thought lowly of this decision, Henry was glad for it. Not only did it mean he could better start his work for the day, but it also meant he could spend more time with his beloved Bear.
[[ROUGH START]] In the 1920s, the NWR was in search of a Flagship Express Engine for their railway. Topham Hatt advocated for the purchase of a Robinson Atlantic from the Mainland, but when the railway was approached by a relatively unknown engineer with designs for a custom-built Pacific, Lord Harwick* was quick to approve. It was a cold January Day when their Pacific, Henry Regaby, arrived in 1922. Named after Lord Harwick’s son, Henry was truly a splendid sight, adorned in House Regaby colours and looking quite elegant. To display the railway’s newfound might, Lord Harwick had arranged a special Express for Henry from the Big Station all the way to the Other End of the Line. That elegance quickly went out the window by the time they reached the Station before the Hill. Soot blanketed his once beautiful livery, and he looked very ill. Mr. Hatt pulled Henry off the train and ordered Alice and another to cover the Express while they looked over Henry. While most of the Directors were disappointed when they learned of Henry’s design flaws, Lord Harwick was furious, and quite angered of being cheated out of a Flagship Engine. It was this day when Henry gained the infamous nickname of “White Elephant”, something Lord Harwick would refer to him as until his death. In the following weeks, Henry would be repainted into NWR Green, though that barely changed his temperament after the disaster that had been January. Come Autumn, the infamous Tunnel Incident occurred, and the rest is history… *Lord Harwick is the title for Sir Albert Regaby, original chairman of the North Western Railway, and otherwise known as the most miserable and pretentious asshole to ever grace the Island of Sodor.
[[TUNNEL TROUBLE or HENRY'S TUNNEL WAS AN INSIDE JOB]] To put it bluntly, the entire ordeal behind Henry’s stay in the tunnel and him getting out is a total mess to explain and I would be here all day. If I were to try and explain it, this lore would go on for much longer than it should. So instead, I’ll direct you to @hazel-of-sodor's take on the Sad Story of Henry, which itself is based on @mean-scarlet-deceiver's take on the story which is brilliant and you should go read it here. I can’t help but nab ideas from other people for my own AU. If it’s not nailed down it’s getting thrown into the stew of lore that is my headcanon.
[[THE KIPPER'S CURSE]] One fateful night in December of 1934, tragedy struck the Island of Sodor. In a matter of moments, the single biggest rail disaster since Godred’s Fall left the Sudrian Main Line entirely cut-off, and multiple engines in critical condition. Repairs took some time, and it was a while before the first train of the day could get through. But ever since that fateful day, something about the Flying Kipper seems… cursed. It’s become a train forever associated with one of the worst accidents in the Island’s History, and it’s not uncommon for something to go wrong whenever it’s pulled during the Winter Months. Although it was officially proven that weather had caused the accident, some (both accredited and disapproved) thinkers have strangely caught on to the thought that the accident was caused thanks to sabotage. Coupled with Lord Harwick’s resignation shortly after in the following years, some have argued the accident was caused to prove how ineffective the Chairman’s leadership was… or that he himself caused the accident to rid himself of the greatest blight to his family’s name.
[[A FINE PLACE FOR SICK ENGINES]] Henry’s Rebuild at Crewe is largely a blur to the Green Engine. For good reason, of course. Henry’s Rebuild was so extensive he might as well have been a different engine afterwards, though for the most part, he was. It is here that the ‘Two Henrys’ Theories are brought up. Due to the nature of the Killdane Rail Disaster, some things had best been kept secret from the public and even the rest of the railway. One of these things was just how close Henry was to dying. It wasn’t talked about, but according to some of Fat Controller I’s memoirs, things were very dire before Henry could get to Crewe. Once taken up by Stanier, most of the knowledge becomes a mystery known only to Charles Hatt, who was directly involved in the rebuild, and has remained tight-lipped over the whole ordeal. It is largely that secrecy to Henry that has allowed the situation to continue on as it has. Some engines say that a selection of Henry’s parts were passed on from one design to the other, with select parts chosen to maintain Henry’s consciousness. Others, though few and far between, say Henry’s “rebuild” never happened, and that the Henry we know today is a different engine entirely. However, some stranger individuals believe that Henry’s rebuild was a coverup for something greater – an attempt to dabble into “Engine Magic” – and that Stanier was seeking to understand the very nature of mechanical life for various purposes. Any time this particular theory has been brought up it’s been laughed out the shed, but some still believe for some reason…
[[FOREST THROUGH THE TREES]] Between Crovan’s Gate and Vicarstown lies Henry’s Forest, known historically as Scacahoo. For years this forest stood untouched by man or machine, before the Sodor & Mainland sought to carve a path through to connect the two towns. Many believe this was the most major factor in the line’s undoing, apart from their failures elsewhere with the Ballahoo Tunnel and their attempts to bridge the Walney Channel, as such an undertaking was incredibly difficult for the small line. Come the Great War, however, and the task was now much more manageable. The Admiralty had no qualms over the war effort, and cleared through the forest with little care for the ecosystem. They needed the wood, after all, what difference did it make. Come peacetime, the wooded hillside was scarred heavily, and a fund was put together to restore it. It took much convincing, but eventually Topham Hatt organised for the North Western Railway to assist in this task, and placed Henry to assist with it. Henry thought lowly of this at first, but over time, he grew a fondness for the forest. On his days off from work, or in between trains, you can often find him resting here amongst nature. He enjoys this greatly, and holds the forest very near and dear to him.
[[THE WARTIME BUSH]] Amidst the relaxed Engine Presentation Codes during the Second Great War, Henry’s Beard was made the only exception to the No-Shave-Unless-Absolutely-Necessary Orders, and for good reason. Henry’s beard grew in fast and thick, and could be a hassle to keep regularly maintained during the strenuous era of that time. Following the War, Henry could often be seen with a heavy stubble on his face. Bear is a keen for Henry to grow his beard out again. Henry personally believes he’ll need convincing to do that anytime soon (for the sake of his crew), but he’s not against it.
[[TO BE ENTERPRISING]] Speaking of Bear. Henry and Bear went on their first date during the Summer of '67, shortly after the Fat Controller sent the infamous 'Spamcan' packing with her train of tankers. The two love each other dearly, though it took some time for Bear to get fully adjusted to life on the island - mainly for how differently things seemed to operate compared to how they were on the Mainland. In his later years, Henry has gone on to become an exemplary engine, truly enterprising on all accounts. His dedication to his loved ones, his railway, and all his friends have marked him as an engine of distinction, respected by some of the most well-regarded and famous engines in the world. He's even been deemed an honorary member of the Gresley Pacific Family, since he technically was the first of their design (and was largely done to bring Mallard down a peg after she got rather big for his wheels during her Golden Jubilee). But it all means nothing to Henry without Bear to be at his side.
[[STUPID BIRD]] Henry does not like birds. He thinks of them as annoying pests that tend to be bothersome at best. In short, they’re stupid to him. Owls tend to unnerve him (and rightfully so).
