Does anyone else who fasts religiously notice that some years are hungry ones and others are just plain thirsty?
Also, pour one out for those poor suckers who walk away from a water fountain and freeze like Wily Coyote over a trap door when they realize what they've done, because they sure as hell can't pour one out for themselves.

i've seen a lot of people push back against din's sect of mandalorians being called a cult, and to some extent, i understand that. closed cultural and religious practices are often degraded in fandom and just in general online and therefore there is a natural instinct for a lot of us to want to defend them even when fictional. but i think we have to be aware while doing so of seeing the differences between the practices that people choose and participate in out of love and respect for a religion/culture that shows them care in return and the practices that people are indoctrinated and then shamed into continuing even when they are harmful. and how often the two intersect.
a mandalorian not being able to remove their helmut even when it could be harmful to their health, even deadly as we've seen throughout the show is concerning. as is them not being able to remove them in situations that affect the wellbeing of others, i.e. when din needed to have his face scanned to be able to save grogu. this is especially true since doing so results in being forced out of the religion and therefore the community and even ones family without any thought for the extenuating circumstances or the effect being cut off will have.
and this is where it differs from other religions. lots of religions have rules and systems that are followed, well religiously. but they also have exceptions to take into account the human aspect.
in Islam, fasting is not expected to be practiced by anyone who would have any sort of negatively affected health by doing so. the same is true within Judaism and many of other religions.
in Baha'i drugs and alcohol are prohibited unless they are prescribed by a doctor.
in Judaism, Pikuach Nefesh means that saving a person's life comes before all else. this means that Shabbat's rules can be broken to save a life. including one's own.
alternatively, we've seen the real life affect of religions putting rules over human life. right now, this is at its most obvious with the christian right and their treatment of abortion, even when not having one could kill the person carrying a child.
the threat of alienation and abandonment by your community if you break their rules even to do what is right (and protecting and taking care of your health is what is right) is coercive and abusive no matter the culture or religion.
bringing young children into this before they are old enough to truly consent to and understand what they are getting into is just wrong. and when a child is adopted into a religion and culture following the loss of all they know and love like din was, that is especially true.
so no, the watch may not be a cult per say, but it is definitely not just any other religion deserving of respect and defense. and din deserves better.

ooh what is ayyám-i-há?
!! I would love to explain! Basically, in the Baha'i faith the calendar is split into 19 months (jalál/glory, qawl/speech, etc), and each is 19 days long. However, that doesn't add up to a complete 365/366 day solar year, it leaves 4-5 days in-between.
Those intercalary days are ayyám-i-há! To round out the year, those days are when we celebrate and come together, a time of giving, generosity, hospitality, charity, friendship etc. At my local center, every kid would bring a small gift, the adults would hide them around the biggest room there, and then we'd go on a little scavenger hunt and whatever gift you found first was yours! Got my juggling balls that way :)
It comes right before the fast, so it's a time of indulgences before that restraint. It's basically a time to be joyous and celebrate life and community and giving--the Baha'i faith highly values community and unity. There's no specific way to celebrate, and it's also open to anyone who wants to participate! Hence why I brought it up, I figured I could share a little bit of my life and background since so many others have done the same.
I could probably say more, but that's a good overview of what ayyám-i-há is :)

Zara chowdhary violence between Hindus and Muslims.....the Baha'i center told me if I have extreme aversions to Hindus practice like veganism or fasting or any type of self restriction that the northern Irish wars and migrant jails between white protestantism and European Catholicism is more what I experience
I notice it is more populated Muslim areas like Milwaukee Wisconsin in its corporate function with Chicago and Sikhism and any type of vegan spirit is evil and has to be excorcised
They believe in science and victorian dogma is insanity
If I was around the Hindus in San Diego...they to me appear to be fading like any religion and fill their function obligatorily....but don't ask for a lot of importance ..
If it's Hindus I around the hare Krishna center was very frightened of helicopters though if it's Arizona to Mogadishu the type of gq ultimate terrorist with his helicopter frightens me
If it's Muslims if it's British Pakistan if your going to be a creepy wants to be paranoid with pound cost of living to dollars earned just get away from me
If it's British Pakistan and their buy it just get away from me
Inflated jobs and voodoo.....if your going to inflate wages just to get paranoid get away from me
If it's Indian Muslims or Afghanistan Muslims if their suppose to bring me aspects of the international company I cannot do they do do that
British Pakistan......tells me they have understood my modernity as in absentia i.a.....but never delivers any required product adjustment or lesson...
The Hindus I think are more indigenous then Indian because they will follow take care of treaties to militant related issues my birth fathers friends were Vietnam veterans and I don't know that under those p.o.w. agreement sanctions
Poor white people should have obligations to reform and take care of the criminal aspects of life....I think the Hindus about reform explain to me to understand many wardens as finally who was good to them they were Hindus
You can't really find information on European concentrations and the Jewish myth that exists without western indoctrination unless it's Hindus
Food not bombs is really commercialized
Ikea...that's bad decisions though
I think there was a lot of muslim vanity that they are who truly believes in all the semitisms...that they believe in Jews and Christ and Muhammed....so I think it's actually a Hindus temple site because it's Hindus that truly does believe in Jews like Jesus
White protestantism...this is new and the old restrictions are not necessary...so if I'm around Catholicism it's those people will still stand and kneel in practice just to cure a pain that is already cured immediately by belief
You need to believe that Jesus saves you through faith no matter what Jesus loves you
And you don't have to read and write you can go to mother God right now
And I was told that was bad and that I have to do penance to strict good actions to accomplish better and now I feel like a snobby prude
Tough love from Catholic government I don't appreciate neck injuries to the little lambs or myself
Heshmat personal chef.....or hash brown...she kept calling him hash brown...
When it comes to infectious disease I am frightened of criminals that have been detained so long that they may spread something in reckoning
And that's if you meet alternate indie characters that need to be taken care of the Hindus can save us not Muslims
There is apparently some allegation the Muslim influance in northern areas could legislate preventatively and was in some way incapable or negligent....
I couldn't make it to the Muslim mosque in Temecula California because there were these construction blockades....
But the Afghanistan business aspects showed me simple remedies in cognitive science to free me from Jewish types that defect in ways to nazism and admit blood thirst
If it's them paranormal attacks are best remedied by where I come from and habits I have always known to do....
Hair not hair...why does it matter....
The vampire lady at the Jewish respite wanted me to believe in men in black all around me....and I find that metaphor about the vermis part of the brain and desires to gas me as a rodent
If it's business around Muslims it's very different cognitive points on my head that are a lot more important to my dental health and parasympathetic function
So I would say they do believe in Jesus though and hidden files on concentrated Jews
No if I was attacked at community meals by very bad addicts the church produces football.....and I blame my uncle the Greek ..
Its my uncles....that are veterans and they could have organized a long time to exercise more trade social control over male conduct that will traitor to idi amin like dictatorship and wouldn't do anything
Its been my whole life that the church does not take any responsibility about wanting to enlist males for sport ability not social conscience

New Medical Study on the Baha'i Fast
I would like to congratulate this important research. Thanks for this interesting and informative interview about the physical effects of the Baha’i fast in a clinical setup. The result of your research, I am sure, answers many previously raised questions. I appreciate your interdisciplinary approach to health, considering both physical, natural, psychological, and holistic health approaches to the human body.
I also liked the side-by-side video interview arrangement. The lighting and simplicity of the background were most pleasing. The affirmative and sincere spirit of the interview was refreshing.
As a Baha'i psychotherapist, I have explored the experience of Bahai fast with my patients on concepts such as relations to our own higher and lower self and how our experience of saying no to our physical needs for food, drink, and sleep, as an expression of our love for God and obedience to His command, has taught us about our inner powers of “conquering ourselves” as the beloved Guardian refers to it. My learnings about the social, emotional, relational, and spiritual effects of saying no to what we consider our needs, are mostly clinical. I would hope researchers could do studies on the above gains in human choices of perception, thoughts, feelings, intentions, and actions.
As a side observation, the changes in sleep patterns during the time of religious fasting are of social, psychological, and spiritual significance. In my two visits during the month of Ramadan in Akko, I observed that all the shops in the bazaar were closed during day time until after 3:00 pm. The Muslim community basically would shift their schedule to remain awake during the night and eat and drink and sleep during the day. A similar issue is mentioned during the time of Abdi'l-Baha when the Muslim residents of Akko would visit the house of the Master during the night and leave by daytime to go to sleep. The problem was that on this one occasion the Baha'i fast and Ramadan were coinciding. Dr. Yuness khan shares the story of how Abdi'l-Baha was burning His candle on both ends and had no chance to eat, drink or sleep to the point of exhaustion! The friends had to consult and be creative in their remedy to the situation.
In light of the importance of spiritual and social-emotional significance f the Baha'i fast, I plan to prepare a blog on my website www.cgie.org, with the insights drawn from the Baha'i prayers for the fast.

“…true faith is no mere acknowledgement of the unity of God, but rather the living of a life that will manifest all the perfections and virtues…” –‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Quote
For this material fast is an outer token of the spiritual fast; it is a symbol of self-restraint, the withholding of oneself from all appetites of the self, taking on the characteristics of the spirit, being carried away by the breathings of heaven and catching fire from the love of God.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Selections 35

Today marks the Vernal Equinox in the Earth’s Northern Hemisphere and the Autumnal Equinox in the South—the day when the sun’s light strikes the Equator directly and illuminates every continent equally. This day is known by the Baha'i faith as Naw-Ruz and is the Baha'i New Year (In Farsi, the Persian language, Naw-Ruz means “new year” or “new day”), this has been observed for more than 3000 years.
Like most happy holy days, the Baha’i New Year usually includes singing, eating, dancing and socializing. Because Naw-Ruz also marks the end of the 19-day Baha’i Fast, it brings a warm, diverse and fascinating group of people together to eat with one another, celebrate, have fun, enjoy each other’s company and truly welcome the exciting, unlimited possibilities of a new year.
But for Baha’is, Naw-Ruz isn’t only a party – it serves as a symbolic reminder of the oneness of all the messengers of God, and the spiritual springtime they each brought to humanity. Abdu’l-Baha (the eldest son of Baha’u’llah, prophet and founder of the Baha’i Faith) explained that Naw-Ruz represents the return of the Sun of Reality, when a re-awakening of the spirit occurs and the light of a new revelation shines equally upon the entirety of God’s creation.

안녀여여여여영!!!!!!
i know it's been a bit of a while since i checked in :( but i have mostly been home these past few days to prepare for classes starting today! on the 27th, i went to gongcha and got myself a jeju green milk tea. it's a killer drink, it tastes amazing. it's like matcha with honey,, but also the matcha is somehow stronger yet not very bitter at all?
i was standing at the counter for a good 5 minutes--the workers were super busy and just assumed everyone would use the self-serve machine. of course, i couldn't do that since i don't have a card and can only use cash. i had to suck up my nervousness and yell out 저기요 (excuse me) to be noticed!
i also bought some dumpling soup for T because she was sick. the menu was all in korean and i used my limited korean to ask the owner about the spice level, since T cannot tolerate spice.
after that, i came home and went out with Dami (i forget if i mentioned her before, but i met her in the kitchen and she added me to the apple tree stayhouse groupchat. she is german and majors in korean). we went around a main street near our house and just looked around at artbox and a few other places. the nightlife was bustling!! it's so nice that we live in a residential area but just a five minute walk away is a space full of restaurants and stores.
we bought tteokbokki and takoyaki fron street venders to eat--the tteok was so soft and to die for but was too spicy for me T.T the takoyaki though??? perfection... i don't even usually like takoyaki but this was so good.. the octopus inside was the perfect texture and the sauce! wow.
the next day, i was mostly at home, again. T went to the mall with a new friend so i went out with Dami again to a café to study. the place was called coffee beans and tea leaves honestly, it was pricey and not even,,, that splendid tasting :(
Tumblr media
we later ran into a place called mega coffee that is much cheaper and had arguably even cooler menus!!
yesterday, i was mostly at home again until around 4pm, when T came with me to the Baha'i centre (just 40 minutes away!!) for feast. i was super nervous, but as soon as we went up into the building, everyone was incredibly welcoming. even though not everyone spoke perfect english, they were all so kind. Hatago, a Baha'i who had moved to korea 7 months ago, cooked butter chicken for us and it was incredible. there was salad, too, and cheesecake!
the program was shorter than what i'm used to and most of it was socialization, maybe because a few non-Bahai's were there, but either way! it gave me enough energy to begin my fast today.
on the way home, we stopped by a convenience store so i could get some juices and snacks to prepare for my fast. we stopped at CU. tbey were selling really gorgeous T-money cards--they had bts and blackpink ones. the blackpink ones were so gorgeous, they were to die for T.T but i didn' get one cause i'm not that hard of a blink--T got one and i'm excited for her!
when we got home, opened the door to take off our shoes, everyone in the apple yree stayhouse was sitting right there in the hallway on a mat, drinking and talking. T and i were shocked but gladly joined them after we put our stuff down and changed. it was a fun night--i feel like i broke the ice with a lot of my housemates and got to know them a bit more. they had ordered tteokbokki but i was too full to eat, so i just sat with them.
someone showed us the rooftop--i didn't know we had public access to it like that! the view was kinda nice ngl :")
then, i didn't sleep until 1am cause my roomies were loud, but it's fine :P
