The way some people in this community (especially 404twt) infantilise George pisses me off so much. They have such a weird idealised version of him and I hate that people don’t call them out on it because it’s been like this since I joined this fandom last October (and can I just say that they had me convinced he was an entirely different person at first).

Of course it’s not just him since people do it with Tubbo as well, but it’s the specific way they do it that gets to me. They act as if he’s a fragile baby and not a literal grown ass man and then on top of that the amount of people that weirdly feminize (is that how you spell it?) him in art and fics is absurd.

Like okay, it’s fine if the ccs want to dress that way or do stereotypically feminine stuff, but it feels so weirdly fetish-y to see people (especially girls) portray him like that especially when it’s in dnf stuff.

I think it bothers me so much that people really go either or. Like a fan will talk about how cute George is doing [x] and someone will be like THAT'S A GROWN MAN WITH A DICK. Okay and ? people can be multi-faceted, men can be cute ?? I don't ?? Idk it's just weird.

That being said, the infantilization as a whole is much bigger and worse and more frustrating. Especially in the context of DNF.

I have a whole thing built up somewhere in the back of my brain about this, but I really don't like the way Twitter (and probably some people on here) always twist the argument when people bring up the way George is treated in fanwork. "Stop implying clothes are gendered." "Men can be soft and whatever the fuck" (I know I literally just said that BUT IT'S ABOUT THE CONTEXT) Like yeah of course fuck gender roles but when you put him in a skirt and heels and make him a meek little baby I feel like you know what the fuck you're doing. Men are absolutely allowed to wear skirts, but it's considered "gnc behavior" for a reason; in our society that kind of clothing is associated with femininity. That's just the fact of the matter.

Why do you feel the need to make George into some kind of caricature while Dream's this, like, masculine bro. Is it fetishization? Projection? Just a weird thing that happens as they trail behind the shadow of the mlm ships before us? Why is it groundbreaking for him to be BAMF in a skirt then? Is it the internalized misogyny back at play? Is it not internalized at all? I don't know. I'm just saying words.

And of course this comes into play in all sorts of aspects of the fandom... I don't know. George seems like a cool guy and I wish him the best but I've never understood the way he's interpreted by 404twt or portrayed by them in turn. I'm not super deep into his side of the fandom though so I could be really off.

Bring Him To His Knees by musyc. five stars. If you haven’t read this, you must be under a rock, but you are absolutely depriving yourself. 

Isolation by bex-chan: reread. always a favorites. it was one of my friend’s favorites, but then she died and i never thought i could read it again. it was nice to finally read it and feel that closeness again. 

Jealousy by rainsrabble: reread, but a very fun one. one of the classic dramiones. 

Various Storms & Saints by viridianatnight: an absolute favorite. will be a classic or i’ll eat my foot. 

Nightmare by provocative_envy: legendary tomione favorite. 

WIPS I started following: 

Happy Pills by malf0y101: Dramione. will break my heart in the end, but it’s incredible. mind the triggers. 

Nightmare by malf)y101: Very Dark Dramione. Love it. 

Come Let Us Adore Him by ikindaneedahero: Why are you sleeping on this? It’s a muggle AU where Draco is a Republican congressman and Hermione is a staffer for Democrat James Potter. It’s goddamn incredible and I worship the ground the author walks on. Also, that age gap. 

Jagged by hiccupfound: A new tomione that is perfect so get to reading. Features werewolf Tom, and bamf Hermione. 

Covert by VirgoAriesGem: War-fic, which is one of my favorites. It’s a slow burn with enemies to lovers and the author posts regular updates! 

Now onto published books I read this month (will probably have to add to this before the month is over)

The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren. 3.5 stars. A modern take on the soulmate trope, backed by science. It’s a fun read, but it wasn’t quite a 5 star one for me. 

Meet You In the Middle by Devon Daniels: 3 starts. A political romance that I only read after reading CLUAH, and man, it fell flat. There’s a lot of problems here, I think but the reviews are scathing. For me, it was so much like The Hating Game that it just didn’t stand up as its own book to me. I was pretty sad about this one. 

The Stopover by T.L. Swan: 3 stars. Available on Kindle Unlimited. A smutty read, but not my favorite. Some parts were cringy, and the possessive alpha male bs wasn’t my favorite take on that character type. I did get halfway into the sequel before I DNF’d. 

The Takeoever by T.L. Swan: DNF, just wasn’t for me with the drama. 

The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori: 3 stars. Kindle Unlimited. Mafia. Not my favorite, but it was enjoyable and it was better than several of the KU books I’ve read. 

A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair: 3 stars. Hades/Persephone retelling. Kindle Unlimited. Enjoyable but not that great to me. Will most likely not read the sequel. I think I just didn’t connect with the writing style. 

The Deal by Elle Kennedy: (next three books are in the same series) 4 stars.  I LOVED this book and the series. Hot hockey players, kind of on that alpha male shit, but not so much that it’s awful to me. This is absolutely a guilty pleasure read, but they’re great. Hannah has a crush. Garrett needs to pass a test. In exchange for her tutoring him, he’ll help her make her crush jealous and absolutely nothing will go wrong. They definitely won’t fall in love. Out of the series so far, The Deal is my favorite. 

The Mistake by Elle Kennedy: 5 stars. Grace and Logan are semi hooking up, but when she’s ready to lose her virginity, Logan fucks up massively. Post falling out, with a summer between them, Grace gives him a list in order to win her back. Listen. I was fucking laughing so hard I cried. 

The Score by Elle Kennedy: 4 stars. After a bad breakup, Allie is going to take care of herself. Dean enters the picture and everything gets fucked, including each other. I would also like to say that these books are incredibly sex positive. (but please, Elle, for the love of God, start capitalizing their sexts so I can enjoy them.) 

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez: 3 stars. This book heavily traumatized me but I think it must also be one of the best ones I’ve read recently because this author took RISKS. Still rated it three stars because I don’t agree with the creative choice, but I’m not the author and I respect how she wrote this. But holy fuck, was that necessary? 

Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur: WLW romance. So enjoyable, but the ending fell a little short for me. I’d recommend it to anyone that needs a healthy female relationship bundled with a rom-com. 

Hopeless by Colleen Hoover: 2 stars. It’s easier to link the review.

I AGREE 1000% like I just look in AO3 tags to try to find a good angst or BAMF Sapnap centric fic of him just girlbossing gatekeeping and gaslighting everyone who's wronged him (there are good ones, I'm just being dramatic) like let the man do awesome shit canon too. LET HIM HAVE HIS HUSBANDS TOO GOD DAMMIT

Sorry I'm too passionate about Sapnap

I think I know why I like Sapnap so much, idk why but he reminds me so much of Kryoz like just the sassiness and the deadpan replies idk is it just me?

I did read one story that was DNF with a side karlnap and the way Sapnap was written was just so amazing! I felt horrible because he got outted in like the worst way and the story focused on his struggles with his sexual identity being exposed (while he himself didn't know what he was feeling) and the consequences of that, but uggggh it was sad in the best way. Just enough angst to be painful without me refusing to finish it.

See I wasn't the biggest fan of Kryoz, but I think the big difference between Sapnap and Kryoz is like...Kryoz has his people he cares about, and doesnt give a fuck about anyone else. And thats not like a bad thing per say but he is super cuddly and flirty with his 1 or 2 peeps (mainly Smit lets be real). Sapnap is just...a literal panda. Wants everyone happy, can be super hyped and the biggest cheerleader for any of the guys in the group, or the soft shoulder to rely on when its just a 1 on 1 stream. He isnt all up in your face about his love, but if any of his friends ask for affection, hes so quick to give it. Karl's love language is obviously touch, and at first Sap was so unsure how to handle it when he visited, but then you can literally watch his progression and slow adaption to Karl's mode of affection because he wanted to support Karl. He lets himself be the background to let others shine, but he can seriously hold a stream with his awkwardness and quirky half-smiles when he streams.

Also he sings on his streams and he doesnt even care which is such a sweet way to show his fans to just be okay with what makes them happy.

Saps just the best. ^.^ (Im also listening to his stream atm while I write this)

Hey, can you explain what you like about Queen of the Tearling? I wanted to like it because I see a lot of people recommend it, but I tried to listen to the audiobook and DNFed pretty quickly. I think the final straw for me was a scene where she was worried about eating in front of the dangerous man she was attracted to against her better judgement because she didn't want him to think she was greedy or something

u opened a can of worms buddy 

so i want to start by saying i understand that this book isn’t necessarily for everyone. i’ve seen/read/watched rant reviews on this book that details all the reasons why this book/series is shit. i’m like obsessed. And I get it, not everyone is going to love this as much as I do, tastes are different, and I’m literally out here devoting my entire life to this series (lol starting my own religion brb).

some reasoning for the hatred (though valid, ultimately wrong imh(umble)o):

Kelsea is a Bad character — didn’t like that she was impulsive & never thinks through her actions, stupid, vain but has low self-esteem (and I see a lot of complaints about the scenes where she compares herself to her mom, her hatred of her mom and how they think that Kelsea hates her mom for caring about her appearance), sheltered & doesn’t know anything

World Building is Bad — “how the fuck is this medieval with mentions of Harry Potter?!” “why didn’t they bring the fucking important things to the ‘New World’ so they don’t regress???” “what”

“it’s a slow book — “DNF bc nothing happens” 

everyone seems to also be really angry this got called “Game of Thrones meets Hunger Games”

all the reasons i love this series (some a response to the above list):

KELSEA — she is my all time favorite character and probably half the reason why i’m so invested in this series. 

she is so smart (book smart, i mean. i concede she ain’t the smartest on the streets and she’s not good at having a poker face (throne??)  because man does she burn some bridges) 

she’s full of heart (her motivations NEVER waver. it’s always always always about saving her kingdom from others and from itself. everything she does is for the good of her people)

and ultimately that leads to not-thought-out decisions that angers a lot of people

she is dedicated to her kingdom and WILL NOT COMPROMISE with anyone for a middle-of-the-road solution. 

she’s plain (and canonically a darker-skinned character than her white counterparts, i think tan really) and has a lot of self-esteem issues. she thinks about her mom, how vain she was, and Kelsea’s hatred is best explained as that she doesn’t hate her mom for obsessing over her looks, she hates her mom for prioritizing that while the kingdom is in shambles. Kelsea also obsesses over her appearance (and i’m not saying there’s a good way to obsess one’s looks) BUT she doesn’t let that get in the way of her duties as queen. (i’m also not saying someone is above another for not being into their looks). kelsea is INSECURE and it’s great. 

she’s 19!!!! of course she’s gonna think about these things. of course she’s gonna worry about how people see her. i was 19 once and i can tell you, i was definitely full of shit then (and even now lmao) but she learns! she listens to people (though she ignores Lazarus a lot lol) and strives to be better (person and Queen). 

she doesn’t sacrifice her own morals for anything 

she grows so much throughout the series i cry about it all the time

most important: she’s FLAWED. yeah she’s badass but ultimately she fucks up so many times

i love her because i saw myself in her, found myself and my beliefs reflected in her character.

World Building — A+ very interesting and wonderful

i think you definitely need to go into this series knowing what it’s trying to do to kind of explain what is going on with the world. it’s a futuristic regressed society.

the way the world gets explained is through various methods, all very effective. 

i love the little paragraphs at the start of each chapter that give insight to the way things worked (little histories, biographies, quotes, etc.) a lot of them also help characterize Kelsea even further, explain her actions, contextualize.

we get bits and pieces of the world (not info-dumping to explain all at once) and it all gets expanded and explained more thoroughly (through memories and scenes) later in the series. the slow world building is part of the plot and essential to the build up. 

the history gets explained in the end and everything circles back to the beginning. 

this series is very much a delayed gratification situation, and so worth it in the end.

Slow Book — this is true and honestly it’s heavy on the politics (which I love) so if you’re not into slow books, you won’t be into this. to each their own. but i loved it so much. this is a book that kept me up until 7AM reading just to finish. it might be slow but it was intriguing because I was invested in Kelsea.

ok that last point is everyone else’s fault lmao do not blame the book. nothing good ever comes out from such comparisons anyway and in general that comparison specifically is so untrue. 

Characters —they’re all interesting and Great, and their relationship to Kelsea is just *clenches fist* so damn good

Mace — fiercely loyal, father figure, badass, interesting history, super protective but also just gives Kelsea her space, such a dad, SECRETLY A SWEETIE 

Pen — sweet, adorable, loyal, deserves the world, stupid, would do everything (including get fucked up drunk) for Kelsea; i also like to imagine he has a killer smile

the Red Queen — BAMF, also interesting history with very fucked up motivations, intriguing, and her storyline is definitely wild

the Fetch — mysterious and creepy, out there doing That

~~~~ ominous dude ~~~~ — can’t say much besides WOW dude this storyline is kinda wild and unexpected

all the other people who come into contact with Kelsea and literally have their lives changed like #same

Writing — I love it. 

there’s perspective shifts pretty often that help give an overview of the world not just as Kelsea knows it but as it is. it also really helps to give life to the characters. it’s pretty balanced because everything is important to the story. you don’t read about this random peasant just because lol (there is kind of a random peasant)

There’s no all-consuming romance. Don’t get me wrong I love romance and I’m all about that angst. But I also love the lack of one in this because that’s really not where her priorities are. Sure there’s a little bit of pining (from more than one person to more than two people lmao???) but ultimately, for Kelsea, she doesn’t have time for that! 

Found Family!!!!! — i’m a sucker for this trope 

Kelsea and the Queen’s Guard???? FAMILY FAMILY FAMILY 

there’s respect both ways. none of them disrespected Kelsea (i think there was maybe one instance but was remedied immediately) and Kelsea doesn’t think she’s above any of them. THEY WOULD DIE FOR HER (it’s kinda their job, but also out of free will) AND SHE FOR THEM (AND ME FOR ALL OF THEM)

Books — they’re important to Kelsea and she gives people the gift of reading!

Lastly (for now), it’s dreadful. Whenever I read the first two books, I was really fearing for the fate of the tearling (pun kinda intended) and I loved every minute of it. I love just how well desperation is portrayed in this series contrasted with the grim determination of the characters to succeed (read: Kelsea).

Always The Fool (With The Slowest Heart)

Money was always a problem in the average Tommy Innit household. Having to switch from job to job, or just straight up not having one was a major cash burner. He was also having problems affording medical supplies due to his unfortunate (and illegal) crime-fighting hobby (oops).

That’s why this job was so important.

Tubbo said, “Tommy you’ll get caught!” or “Tommy you’re an idiot for thinking this won’t have any repercussions.” When the blonde had told his roommate about the position. Boy was he wrong when Tommy did not give his super-secret identity away and started making enough money to actually feed himself. Plus, free food at the hero tower!

(Yes, he chose a job at the hero tower. Was it supposed to be a joke? Yes. Did he get the job accidentally? Yes. Did he regret it? Well-)

Maybe the injuries were a slight problem, especially when the people giving them to you were either of your three bosses. Truthfully, it was a big problem.

OR

Tommy tries to manage a job at the hero tower while fighting crime on the side. What could go wrong?! With Tubbo by his side, certainly nothing!
