The most irritating thing is Ranboo wasn’t even saying to be courteous to people grieving her, he was saying be courteous to people who were scared/nervous/shell shocked because this is a MAJOR status quo upheaval that will have negative effects on people within the UK. There have been plenty of British people here on tumblr saying similar things. I don’t think the people angry at him get you can hate the British monarchy and still be scared of what’s gonna happen when the system suddenly becomes very unstable.
Yeah, exactly. People have been talking about how the economy and the lower class people are going to suffer as a result of the extravagance that's going to come about with the funeral and subsequent coronation (I believe -- I'm American) because those are things that matter. Ranboo specified compassion toward the people. And that's not even to mention the violence and such that tends to follow large events. It's just such a dumb fucking misunderstanding of his words that if you're really mad about this specifically I can't help but feel like you're looking for something to be mad about

What’s so bad abt mcyt?
tbh it's more the fandom that i dislike (because i honestly still care for ranboo greatly) because i had such bad experiences with them on mcyttwt. never mind that i would get racist shit daily in my dms and on curiouscat, they were just... really mean. like no one was willing to forgive. or realize that sometimes people really don't understand things at first. or that they can just make mistakes. it got so bad that my doctor noticed and prescribed me a mood-stabilizing medication for it.
the creators (other than ranboo) being weirdly bigoted about things also was really irritating. not to mention i was seriously depressed during that time- like to a dangerous point. basically i don't want to be reminded of that time in my life.

I just want to get things out of my chest.
As someone who only watches the dream smp lore wise and only watches like 2 or 3 content creators related to the SMP (aimsey, ranboo, tinakitten), and as a dream stan let me be the first to say: I get it, Dream did some problematic shit, I accept that he's done upsetting stuff.
But that's not what i am gonna talk about, I am going to go on a quick little ramble so bear with me, first and foremost it's the generalization of the fandom being all white. Just a quick reality check for everyone, there will be BIPOC stans in every fandom. There's no predominantly white fandom space, you will see BIPOC individuals enjoying things that they like.
Antis when they find out that there are BIPOC people in fandom spaces that they dont like:
Tumblr media
To the antis, I get that you spreading a whole twitter thread on dream's bigoted views from many years ago will make people aware about his past, I understand stand that. Hate to break it to you, it sounds performative.
Every single POC and white stan in the fandom always say that we are holding Dream or any CC accountable for their actions.
Every time dream is trending on twitter you always bring up the same thing over and over again, it's starting to sound like that one SpongeBob clip where bikini bottom is in shambles and SpongeBob goes "We did it Patrick, we saved the city!" Calling out a white Minecraft youtuber about his bigoted past which he acknowledges and accepts that his past views were shit and is willing to change isn't the activism you think.
Not to mention, BIPOC stans within the dream smp community also get shit by their white peers.
With that being said, at the end of the day Dream is a rich man and he's living his best life with his three friends and I hope he keeps listening to marginalized voices within his fanbase in order to be a better person.

do u ever just remember random twitter stuff. do yall remember when tubbo was playing dbh last year and connor did the 28 STAB WOUNDS thing and there were enough people live tweeting that the phrase trended and then mcyttwt got canceled for the 50th time for "genuinely freaking people out thinking something important happened on the news but it was just a video game"
how was that a thing people got mad about

I think this has to be like the funniest mcytblr vs mcyttwt divide. Usually its like big difference the fandoms have is over stuff like boundaries and shipping but with qsmp, qsmptwt think you cant like the server whereas qsmpblr think you can because you can engage in it critically and like it
No yeah I’m in shock
Can’t wait to see how this plays out with the spiderbit zine hah… if I even get twitter people applying now that they know that guapoverse isn’t allowed… and that they’ll have to write within the qsmp setting…

twitter screaming misogyny as a way to shield women from rightful criticism is already bad, but if the streamers themselves start picking up on it we're actually so cooked when it comes to them falling down the radfem hole.
well I do remember it happening before (not hannah or sylvee) so mcyttwt spaces are already kinda cooked

Please what the FUCK is mangoball, how do I find it, what is the "plot" (if there is one) and do you have any disclaimers or introductions to give to me as someone who's not too versed in mcyt but is moderately familiar with some dsmp streamers??????
omg my favorite question. so here is where you can find mangoball and here is where you can find the mangoball christmas special. basically Cheater Cheater (the real name of the fic but everyone calls it mangoball) is a satirical rpf social media au about minecraft youtubers posted by twitter user mangobaII. a lot of it is a criticism of the specific ways 2021 mcyttwt (and specifically dteamtwt) characterized mcyts. for example, wilbur soot was seen as the quirky weird guy which translates to his mangoball counterpart getting up to tons of illegal activities and being generally really strange. george was characterized as like. well you know how in yaoi the twink one is always reduced down to being dumb and childish?? yeah that’s what the fandom did to george and this is reflected in his mangoball character. also corpse husband is there. i don’t think he’s a specific criticism of anything. he’s just there. the only disclaimer i have to give is that some of the content creators written about in mangoball (dreamteam it’s dreamteam) fucking suck irl but i’m assuming you’re aware of that? either way it’s a fantastic read, i hope you enjoy it!!

Oh I agree with that, I don't think they believe Dream has actually changed. I just think the way Dream responded to criticism helped shape the way mcyttwt as a whole would give criticism+expect ccs to respond to it, and it attracted these people who joined in later and started feeding off/magnifying that energy without actually understanding why it was that way in the first place. I could obv be wrong since I wasn't privy to how these spaces were pre-Dream but from my POV it certainly looks like that's what happened
with this angle i could see that actually, yeah
i think part of it also just comes from the way teens/young people act online today in general even outside of this space—there’s a sense of entitlement to how people should be living their lives Especially when it comes to personal decisions and privacy, and it’s magnified when it comes to celebrities. we’ve treaded to a really dangerous era of “you must live your life in accordance to everyone else’s standards”

“mcyttwt as a whole seems to hold skeppy up to harsher standards than anyone else which always felt a bit um. racially motivated to me.” NO NO SPEAK YOUR TRUTH COMMIE!!! I’m so glad someone else agrees because there definitely is. The standard bad is given in controversy vs how skeppy is torn the fuck into with the worst of it enabled by happytwt accounts always angered me. It’s what anon said it’s not that they don’t deserve criticism but there’s a pattern when comparing the two reactions. It’s almost like… there’s a negative stereotype regarding the nature of poc people and how they’ve always been assumed the worst of as opposed to white people…anyways.-⭐️ anon
yeah and even when it comes to the other dsmp members, it feels like everyone blows up skeppy's mistakes far more than the others. idk. also a lot of his apologies have been buried if they happened around early 2020 so people keep bringing old shit back up. its completely fine if you dont forgive him/dont feel comfy with him but i dont see why everyone assumes the best in bad but not skeppy

I think the Ranboo thing wads caused due to him like a year ago promising to be a better ally and share resources in regards to POC issues, because his community has a racism issue.
(I saw some people saying that it would already help if he remembered and said something during specific dates/holidays like Juneteenth, etc.)
(<- context)
A couple of things (all /nm)
1. Yeah that's kind of the cause, or at least a big part of it bc it's what he talked about, but clearly something prompted it this time around. Even if it's just people banding together to bring up the fact that he said he'd do that, that's not a recent development
2. I have to question the importance of some of the demands Twitter has. I'm not trying to come across as combative and I understand that Ranboo has genuine substantial influence as a public figure. But he is in fact a white, teenage, not even particularly big-time (as far as larger connections go) streamer. He's an internet micro-celebrity. I understand that he has a responsibility as someone with a following but the behavior of a fandom when the fandom is as his is...
Him saying to not be racist isn't gonna change anyone on Twitter's mind. He couldn't get his own fans to stop being fucking creeps about his privacy, I can't possibly imagine where people are getting the impression that he can get them to care about other people who they aren't so much as fans of. If you're looking to the white boy to teach you about poc issues you're looking in the wrong place, generally.
On top of that, so much of it just feels so performative to me. Not all of it. I'm not saying remembering Juneteeth wouldn't be good, acknowledgement of it'd be a big deal. But like that era where your straight streamer would say you're valid or gay rights or whatever, what does that really do for you? For people? There are things he can do (and is doing, according to his thread) but that's not what a lot of Twitter tends to want. They want the gesture, the noise, the personal acknowledgement. They want the follow back (else [cc] hates [minority]) and its a bad culture being established.
That's how I feel as a poc, anyway.

to any mcyttwt migrants: hi. if you've customised your account and started reblogging and/or posting things, you're spared. if you haven't i'll just block you instantly if you follow. it's not personal. glad we're on the same page.
btw. we engage with media critically here. and sometimes ship mcrp characters. and do other things you might not like. so, maybe, if that annoys you, a. ignore it, b. just block and move on, or c. get off tumblr. cool? cool. awesome. don't be a dick.

I'll never forget when the writer of TUMOASD (Eneli) first started writing the fic. She was in a discord with me and I remember every chapter everyone would get so excited to see what she wrote, and I remember most of us pointedly ignoring the chapters where things were off. Everyone knew that the fic was going to end extremely sad but we couldn't bring ourselves to accept that (not unlike tommy being in denial as well)
...and i'll never forget eneli sending me another one of their fics and saying they wrote fluff this time and it was the fucking zombie apocalypse oneshot LMAO
I think the TUMOASD hate is due to varied reasons:
Popular thing bad
People didn't found the motivation to keep reading the fic and didn't keep trying. It was difficult to read = bad to them.
Not paying attention to chapter 30.
People taking Eneli's message for leaving the fandom too seriously and to heart. I think if they knew her better they would get how she does things and that it was mostly a light-hearted tweet to say goodbye to something she was no longer interested in. Also she was on mcyttwt and I don't know if I'd wish that for anyone ASDFGHJKL
So many people have wonderful memories of being friends with Eneli, of just being distraught over the fic and might even finding it fun! People saying it wasn't even funny: maybe not for you. I personally found Tubbo broadcasting Jump In the Cadillac to the whole city pretty funny.
(Spoilers for TUMOASD):
I did not cry at any of characters' deaths. However I did cry when Eneli told why she wrote the fic.
Anyone who has read it knows that the fic, despite being a fic with an insane amount of mcyt references, isn't really about the MCYTs. It's actually a very personal fic about Eneli's problems at home. It's a personal fic she wrote for herself so she could cope with all she was going through. I think that is something that people fail to recognise.
Passerine is a bit like it too. Not the whole fic but at least a part. And again
(Spoilers for Passerine):
Thcscus has said before that the way she wrote Philza was a bit of a mirror of her relationship with her father. You can see it especially well in Wilbur's talk with Phil in Chapter 6. That isn't a "Wilbur finally confronts his father about what he did to them" talk, or at least not completely. It's actually what Kyle wishes she could say to her father, who she realises left her to make her family's life better, but she can't help but feel conflicted and saddened by the whole situation. (She talks a bit about it in the Passerine Podcast interview).
Fanfiction is something people write for themselves: if someone enjoys it it's amazing! But people need to realise it's not something made specifically for you. There's a lot going into them and you should respect that people have different opinions and likes. Don't shame others for liking a harmless fic.
I'll give you some examples:
I've read Accelerate. I don't get why there was so much fuss about it. It's just a smut fic to me. But I won't go everywhere saying that it's bad. I guess people might like the specific situation. I don't like it particularly. I respect who likes it though.
I have conflicted thoughts about Flowers of 1970. It's not on my top quality fics. That being said, I try to understand why people might like it: the possibilities of the plot, the plot with Wilbur's family being genuinely interesting. There's so many reasons why people might resonate with it. Who am I to say they can't.
I think people should hate less. Authors are writing for free. Go read what you like. Constructive criticism is fine, however please know what you're talking about and accept that people might consider what you think is a fault an advantage.

I used to be elbow deep in su critical back in like 2015 or whatever and it eventually turned into this hellscape where everyone was so obsessed with Critical Consumption that it turned into a giant pissing match to see who could take the most issue with the show. Like the amount of Aquamarine is a Loli Ruby and Sapphire are heteronormative Blue Diamond crashed the wedding because the crewniverse hates lesbians takes I saw towards the end of that shitshow was enough to kill a man. All that to say that I genuinely feel like mcyttwt went in the exact same direction like it's fucking uncanny with the way they talk about anything they take issue with my brother in Christ this man makes content for twelve year olds online
at no point did i know where this was goimg
