your lifestyle seems so classy and elegant and sophisticated (at least your aesthetic online, i'm not making any assumptions about the parts of your life you don't share). if you're comfortable answering, did you grow up in that kind of environment or was it something you more so chose for yourself as an adult? do you have any advice for someone who didn't grow up feeling "cultured" and finds all the coffee and restaurants and art a bit intimidating but wants to be a part of that world?

I wrote something about this a little while ago, and it's a really interesting topic. it definitely started as an adult for me. I think I probably don't have the answer but here's a ramble.

for me liking 'nice things' started out kind of like a little joke with myself and then it turned into a whole lifestyle. my parents didn't have much money, we didn't go to fancy restaurants, we didn't drink tea or eat little sandwiches or really go out to eat ever to be honest. but they were young immigrant punks who loved heavy music and books and writing and they encouraged me to lean into my innate weirdness. I think what they didn't have in finance they made up for with imagination. it was tumultuous and unsteady, but it was multi-cultural, which is a huge privilege.

specifically on restaurants, I think a lot of that is J – he is even more open-minded than I am and comes from even fewer experiences like that (his words). he's unimpressed by fancy, but he's also unafraid of niceness. he hates when people take themselves too seriously, and helps me to do stuff I would never do because he see it like a kind of prank. like, we'll go somewhere a bit posh, and I'll be freaking out and sweating and looking to bolt and J will just be like, we're hoodwinking them. we're playing them like a piano. it's cosplay. it's a magic trick. it's hilarious and it puts me totally at ease. I remember the first time he took me to a nice restaurant, I was so overwhelmed – but I loved it, the food was amazing and we had a wonderful time because he was like, don't stress, you're allowed to enjoy it.

so I suppose my advice is to just enjoy that you are different and marvel at the idea that your great great great grandma (or even your mum) would think "this is bananas". like, you're you, and you're looking at the art, or eating the food, and that's great, doesn't matter how you got there. something about how james murphy said that pretentiousness is a great way to get cultured because you start out pretending to read something to be cool and then you actually do read it and so on and so on. or how dan fox said pretentiousness can help us overcome the fear of the new and the different in order to create cultural diversity. something like that.

We are now entering a period wherein we adopt the culture of South Korean artists, especially their food, exercises, clothes, dramas, and music.

Have you ever wondered why K-pop idols and actors are so skinny?

K-idols and actors balance and are strict with their lifestyles, including their workouts and food intakes.

Who wouldn't like to be as skinny as them? Let's start to be fit before the year ends.

First, be determined to workout once or twice a week at your convenience for thirty minutes to one hour. There are a lot of workout exercises on YouTube right now; you just have to do them and make a choice on which exercise is best for you. For me, cardio workouts standing I usually do once a week. First year of pandemic, usually I do workouts every day. Yeah, I was satisfied. In two weeks, I did achieve abs and became skinnier. Some of us hit the gym to become fit, which is also good.

But let's see how K-pop idols and actors do their workouts. As they said, before you make your debut in a group, you must undergo a series of training sessions in proper exercise, diet, singing, dancing, etc. Let's focus on their workout.

4th Generation Le Sserafim workout routine: 100 jumping jacks, 4x25 burpees, 2x10 jump squats (holding ears), 1 song plank crawl, 2x10 plank up and down, 2x10 plank twist, and 75 crunches

Girls Generation leg workout routine: 15 thigh hovers, 20 squats, 10 side planks, 20 inner thigh lifts, 15 hip kicks, 15 high knees, 10 lunges, and 19 hip raises

Blackpink Jennie Kim does pilates exercise for one to two hours for five days in a week. This helps to be flexible, strengthen, and tone the body.

BTS’s Jungkook Workout Routine: Knowing Jk, he does boxing exercises in his Weverse Live, but he also does 20 squats, 20 pushups, 20 jump squats, 20 pike pushups, 10 planks, 20 mountain climbers, 15 burpees, 20 crunches, 20 leg raises, and 20 Superman’s exercises to achieve his amazing toned body.

Exercise has advantages; it helps our brains improve, helps us manage our weight, strengthens our bones and muscles, improves our daily activities, and has a low disease risk (don't abuse it too much because it may also have a great risk in our body).

Second is food. Who doesn't like food? Do you know kpop idols and actors are forbidden from eating condiments, sweets, fried chicken, tteokbokki, pastry, ice cream, noodles, hamburgers, and jokbal before they debut as artists because they need to have a slim or skinny figure? They undergo really strict diets.

In the Philippines, there are a lot of fast food chains and restaurants opening from time to time.

Salt is usually what we put in our food, but have you heard that if we intake too much salt, there is a bad risk to the body? Salt intake in excess can be associated with disease, weight gain, and much more, but for us Filipinos, we can't remove it from our foods. We are fond of eating noodles, junk foods, fast foods, and restaurants. I read a lot of articles about how some salty foods can cause swelling. Sweets can gain us weight, and articles show they tend to give us acne or pimples. As per my experience, I am very observant about it. Back when I was in high school, I loved eating sweets like chocolates, candies, and much more, which gave me acne on my face and on my back. In time, I stopped eating chocolate, any sweets, and milk too. It slowly disappears, but then again, consult a physician for more information. Meat is really delicious, but the fatty part is no good if eaten too much, especially if you are really on a diet. The breadings, sauces, and ingredients we put on them are sometimes bad for our health. chicken, preferably the breast part for those on a diet.

Let's see how K-pop artists eat.

Suzy Bae ate one chicken breast and a banana for breakfast and drank a glass of milk. For lunch, she ate brown rice and a small vegetable salad. She finished the day with two sweet potatoes.

That’s why they could lose weight in a short period of time. Remember to drink water.

I'm not saying it is bad, but in moderation, did you know that home-cooked food is still the best for me because we can control it on our own? Eating vegetables and fruits can also help us in our diet, but it really depends on a person's lifestyle and diet. There are a lot of apps now that you could try to help us plan our meals and exercises. We just need the determination within ourselves.

George Benson - Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You

Very romantic. It's a song about how much I love you, and I can say that not only to my lover, but also to my family and friends. What I imagine is the feeling of singing to a cat in the house (laughs). I love how warm it is.

Is there anything you are looking forward to when you come to Japan?

Of course I was looking forward to working with awesome!plus. Also, i am a guitar collector, so I was looking forward to buying vintage guitars. People have good taste and keep things in good condition, so there are many second-hand items that are really good.

You originally studied music, right?

Yes. I started music when I was 22. If I hadn't been doing music, I wouldn't be where I am today, and I wouldn't be appearing in dramas. The basics of Thai culture are doing music, and that leads to theatrical performances. I also stepped into the entertainment industry because of the music. I was also making demos on guitar. The first thing I made was an acoustic pop rock.

What is important to you when making music?

I take care of it. You can't eat a guitar, so it doesn't have a taste, but you can really feel the taste of its sound. From my point of view, the guitar is very sexy. Plus, vintage guitars are made from old wood, so they smell great. It feels like wine. Furthermore, the guitar can be played in any genre. That's the biggest attraction.

Please tell us about shooting episodes of the drama "Kinn Porsche The Series"

In this work, the performers and all the staff wanted to make a good work. There are many fictional scenes but there are also many human-like lines. Everyone was seriously trying to put on the best performances in the time allotted. I called that time a magic moment. It turned out to be a really good work.

How was the reaction?

I was surprised that everyone responded so well. No matter which country I go to, I can feel everyone's feelings.

The world tour sounds like a lot of fun.

I feel really lucky that I was able to take everyone with me. It feels more like a school trip than a job (laughs). However, the other day I went to Paris by myself for work, and then I felt incredibly lonely..!

Ahaha. By the way, Apo as seen by Mile. What kind of person is he?

He's very energetic. That's what comes out. I'm the type of person who listens, so when we're together, it's really well-balanced. He surprises me a lot. I'm always trying to do my best, so I'm very happy to be able to work with him.

What kind of story are you listening to?

He says everything, such as how he felt at that time. He says anything. He will tell me everything I can understand or can’t understand. He is a person who has no secrets and will tell me everything.

Ahaha. Is there a role you would like to play in the future?

I would like to act in dark, thriller, and murderous scenes. I would also like to play a horror movie like Japan's Ju-on! I was 20 when I started to like the guitar, so I may not be very good at it, but I think it would be great if I could collaborate with Jeff this time. l'm looking forward to it!

Now, Mile, please tell us what you think is the appeal of this drama.

Although the original is a novel, it has become a work that reveals the true face of humans. It's wonderful. To put it simply, it's Pocky."

I think it’s a love song. It's smooth and soft, so if you listen to it and are in nature, you can feel the background and love of the song.

What are you looking forward to during your visit to Japan?

I want to work with Japanese staff. Recently, I have traveled to various countries and worked with people from various countries, but Japan is one of my favorite countries, so I am happy to work with Japanese people. I wanted to work with them, and when I actually worked with them, they were all wonderful and always made me feel good.

Is there anything you eat every time you visit?

Surrounded by the sea, I think there are food colors and flavors that only Japan can offer.

However, what would you like to do in Japan if you have time?

I want to feel the unique lifestyle and traditional culture. I went to Meiji Jingu this time, and my mind and body became softer. The smell of nature calms me down, and I feel good energy and energy increase.

About the popular drama "KinnPorsche The 'Series'", do you want to share some behind the scene story?

In the scene on the boat in episode 3, our boat sways every time a boat passes by, so the camera gets drunk, so we have to take a little break after each take! I can not forget. Mile and I are fine because we are concentrating on the people we are acting with, but the cameraman must be drunk because he has a wide field of view through the camera.

Currently on a world tour as a drama member. If you were to hold an event in Japan, what kind of projects would you like to do?

Japan is famous for anime cosplay, so it would be great if everyone could get together in cosplay and sing and dance. There were people in duck and avatar costumes, but if we could get together in Japan and do cosplay together, I'm sure it will be fun.

You like singing and dancing, is there an instrument vou would like to try?

I wanted to play the saxophone because I liked jazz and instrumental music since I was little. I wanted to join the music circle. But now I wonder if I should listen to someone else play it (laughs).

Do vou have a favorite Japanese artist?

I love KAT- TUN. I don't know what it means, but I like the rhythm of the song, the way it's sung, and the beatbox, and it feels good to listen to it. i also like EXILE's "Lovers Again" and “LAST CHRiSTMAS". I like it because it makes me feel like something good is going to happen today.

Is there a Japanese actor you'd like to work with?

Nana Komatsu-san. I'm interested in her because she has a charming natural acting style. Also, Rinko Kikuchi's acting is so deep that it caught my eye. Tomohisa Yamashita, who I've been watching since I was young, is also one of my favorite actors. Takeshi Kaneshiro is also cool, isn't he?

What does acting mean to you?

Acting is what made me understand the world, people and nature. In the process, there are three things that are important to me: the environment in which I was born, the environment in which I am now, and the environment in front of me. When I was worried about the role of Porsche, It was about how he was born and what kind of environment he was raised in. It's difficult because he's a contradiction between his feelings and his actions. All I can say is that he likes Kinn. He loves Kinn regardless of position or gender, and the straightforwardness of Porsche is the appeal.

What role would you like to play in the future?

This work is currently being filmed, and in this series I am performing Thai dance. There is something unique about Thai dance, it is strong but soft and delicate. My teacher told me to think of myself as an angel and move, but it is a loose style. However, it is not popular among young people these days, so I want to convey the charm of Thai dance through this work. Just as everyone thinks of Japan when they hear the words ninja or samurai, I want them to think of Thailand, when they think of Thai dance.

High School PriChan the Musical, Part 2!

By popular demand!

So, as I mentioned before, Part 2 of the High School PriChan virtual musical (originally streamed on 3/9/2024) was a lot more dense than the first. All you really need to know about Part 1 is that Miracle Kiratts, Meltic Star, Ring Marry, and Daia were kidnapped and brought to a high school in space by Sadame Ginga for a mysterious purpose.

And so, our story begins exactly where we left off. They even open the show in the same exact way as part 1, with a reprise of the original song High School Challenger.

After the opening song, the girls discuss their upcoming Culture Festival (which has an overcomplicated name that Sadame keeps changing) and predict that Sadame Ginga will just appear and tell them it's happening all of a sudden without them actually having planned anything.

And guess what happens!

But they are all used to it by now.

So, what does everyone actually do for the Culture Festival?

Could it be, performing a live!? (They have done nothing else at this "high school" so far...)

So we have another string of performances, the most interesting of which is again Daia's. Just as she's about to begin, the screen starts glitching out and she is joined by her other self to form Double Daia. Together they perform Forever Friends! Yes, the MyChara Zuttomo song from PriPara!

Daia just covered Heart Iro Tori Dream in the last installment, so I don't know why she gets all the surprise covers but YAY DAIA!!!

The mascot Daia leaves and we reach the "climax" of the Culture Festival: the MyChara runway! Well, they call it a runway but it's actually a conveyor belt. (I don't know why they couldn't do the usual runway animation?) And so, the MyCharas of everyone who paid to get in are all wheeled out and do a pose at the end of the conveyor belt. How very exciting, for everyone who got in that is. This part seemed to drag on forever though... But well, I guess it was kinda neat seeing all the various season 3 coords I never got to see before.

After the runway, so much "sadame iine" has been uniquely gathered that Sadame Ginga insists they put on a special performance that has never been seen before. If so, a miracle might occur!

All of a sudden, Mel, Mirai, and Rinka start talking about some kind of a special group they once took part in, in a different world. This is all very confusing in universe, but it's Run Girls Run. They are talking about Run Girls Run.

So, the three of them perform Brand New Girls!

This leaves Emo, Sara, and Anna watching on the sidelines... leading Sara to suggest to Emo, hey, why not perform with us? It turns out that when Meltic Star was just Anna and Sara, they had considered inviting different members from Miracle Kiiratts to join them. Anna was apparently particularly interested in performing with Emo, Sara discloses. They had prepared songs that they could perform with Mirai and Rinka as well, but the first one they wrote was for Emo!

And so, they invite Emo to perform that song right here, right now!

Emo is a bit freaked out since she doesn't know the song, but Sara insists all she needs to do is study the lyrics and she will be fine. Anna has studied Emo's dancing style and created the moves to fit her perfectly, after all...

So, "Emotic Star" (or "Anna, Sara, Bananas" as Anna calls them, composed of three fellow members of iRis) perform the Valentine song Choco Tea Cocho Heart (a Meltic Star arcade song).

After this performance, the "sadame iine" is maxed. Sadame brings up a special monitor resembling a sliding puzzle showing possible fates of the universe and announces they now have the power to change destiny!

Naturally, the girls are taken aback to find out that this is what they have been performing for all this time. They demand Sadame explain.

And so, Sadame takes them to the superintendent and principal's office, her Sadame Room. Here, Sadame explains how she came to possess a record of the entire history of the universe, past and present.

"Oh? A record? That's what my grandma used to listen to music!" says Emo.

No, not a record. Sadame only uses the latest technology.

A VHS tape.

And it's recorded in extended play!

And, after studying said tape, Sadame had discovered that the disaster that killed the dinosaurs was about to return once more. But this time, a direct hit! Our galaxy, which just happens to be shaped like Kirachu, is about to hit another galaxy, which also happens to be shaped like Kirachu.

The girls are naturally distraught that the entire world is about to be destroyed, but Sadame announces she won't allow it. So, as it turns out, despite her scary appearance and forceful methods, Sadame did not have a nefarious reason for kidnapping the girls at all. She's been trying to save the world through PriChan all along!

Sadame then begins the performance she thinks will save the world (a reprise of her solo from the last show, "Face your Fate").

However, she is unsuccessful as her performance is suddenly interrupted as the two galaxies seem set to collide! Sadame is distressed as this wasn't supposed to happen, and the curtains close!

But, Mirai steps in to remind her that creating this high school and bringing everyone together was not useless because it allowed them to meet. Emo and Rinka agree with Mirai, and Meltic Star tell Sadame she's given up too soon. Everyone chimes in with the usual PriChan spirit of not giving up, and giving everything a try!

After a quick intermission with the mascots, we return to find the negative Kirachu galaxy (which Emo nicknames Urachu) has appeared on the horizon. Maria tries to push it away with cuteness only for Suzu to inform her she's just gonna pull it in it closer!

Sadame falls to her knees, lamenting that everything she did was useless.

Mentioning this brings up all their old PriChan memories, which were also included on the VHS tape. Emo and Mirai reminisce about their debut with Ready Action and what the song means to them. They were scared, but they had to try, and this song cheered them on.

"Let's do it! Let's try!" says Mirai as she holds out her hand to Sadame.

Sadame takes her hand, and the two perform Ready Action!!

Sadame's sadame meter is full, but she knows she will just fail like last time if she tries again. They need a way to collect even more iine. More than ever before.

Just as everyone is feeling down, they hear a voice from above. It's Alice! And Eve! They have been keeping tabs on the situation but due to a time lag, were just a little late in contacting them. They inform them with the use of Mel's parents' technology and a special performance on a special stage, they can change sadame iine into galaxy iine! However, they need to be in view of the Earth (the school is on the dark side of the moon).

Solulu and Luluna then appear to help as well (Note: Alice, Eve, Solulu, and Luluna don't have models, they are just communicating on a screen with static images) and send the girls their Illuminage coords. Miracle Kiratts performs, which sends everyone traveling on a shooting star to where they need to be!

(Or so we hear, in another intermission with the mascots.)

The mascots, with the help of mascot Daia, change into their idol forms and go to help as well!

Then, with no segway whatsoever, we are with Anju. Anju performs Fortune Karat in space.

Meanwhile, the other girls have arrived closer to the earth, where they need to be to accomplish the performance that will gather everyone's galaxy iine and change destiny.

I'd like to note that, although Sadame does not get an Illuminage coord, she's like... significantly more sparkly now.

Also, the girls realize the stage they have arrived on is actually Hakucho, Anju's mascot, transformed! So that's what Anju was doing? GoGo Mascots and the other Daia arrive too! Together they form the supergroup, Super Galaxy Miracle Star!

A group which can change destiny!

Super Galaxy Miracle Star performs the musical theme, High School Challenger (third performance of this song overall).

(Wait, I just noticed that even though they made a point about her showing back up, mascot Daia wasn't in this performance?? ??????)

And so, by the power of PriChan and its followers, the Earth, no, the GALAXY is saved once more.

Anju, Alice, and Eve reflect on the power of PriChan and Alice and Eve hope to perform with Solulu and Luluna someday. Anju tells them that the future exists to give us possibilities.

Sadame apologizes for her forceful ways of getting everyone involved in all of this, but they all forgive her since, after all, they had fun! They thank Sadame, saying they could not have done it without her. But Sadame says she should be thanking them for teaching her about the real power to change the universe (giving everything a try)!

The others ask Sadame if she is going to return to the school (to which transportation is fixed now, I forget at what point the robot got broken...), and she says of course. She is, after all, the superintendent, the principal, the student council president, the culture festival chair... (etc).

The other girls will all be returning back to their own respective high schools on Earth, but they decide this isn't goodbye. They are all connected by PriChan!

Sadame, who still feels responsible for the fate of the universe, will return to studying the updated VHS but also go on a journey to the center of the universe. Surely, she will discover the secret of the fate of everything there!

The others question if that is possible, but she reminds them what they taught her. You'll never know if you don't try!

The curtains close as Sadame is sure they will meet again!

The curtains open again with the girls back in their respective high school uniforms, ready to again try and perform the musical they were trying to perform in the last show before Sadame interrupted by kidnapping them and bringing them to space. But this time the mascots are with them too!

Suddenly, they hear something. Could it be...?

It turns out Sadame has given up on embarking on her journey... by herself. Instead, she will be using Hakucho, who can apparently travel faster than the speed of light and communicate back virtually.

So, now Sadame can visit whenever she wants! Except she does still have responsibilities at her school. She, after all, is the superintendent, the principal, the school council president... And she does have to analyze the data from Hakucho as well.

For now though, she is here! And will participate in the musical as well! It's her destiny!

And so, the curtains close for the final time as the real musical supposedly begins...

What a wonderful little thing. It was nice to be able to check in on everyone during their high school life, and meet a completely new PriChan idol character. You may have been able to tell already by reading this, but I really liked Sadame's arc, and seeing her finally smiling and enjoying herself performing with Mirai was my favorite part! Also, they threw a whole lot of fanservice for Emo/Anna shippers in here as well hehe.

I hope they keep doing these virtual musicals! I wouldn't be surprised if PriMagi or King of Prism is next!

🎻 VIOLIN — Does your oc play any instruments? what is their skill level (beginner/intermediate/advanced/virtuoso/etc)?

Morrigan likes music, it's a very big part of mer culture, after all! He always struggled to focus during music lessons since he found them boring, but he still loves to play. He's quite skilled at the flute (intermediate) and is a very talented singer :).

Cosme plays guitar and is quite advanced! He started when he came to NRC. He's very good at it and will play for his class if they're well behaved enough.

Nkululeko does play instruments! He can play a number of Xhosa instruments (he's quite talented with the uhadi and umrhube) but also the mbira! It's not a Xhosa intrument, in fact, it is Zimbabwean, but he has recently begun learning how to play it and is a beginner. He likes music a lot and probably would've joined the Light Music Club if it weren't for Track and Field.

Timo doesn't really play instruments, but he does like to sing. Is he good? Nobody knows. He doesn't let anybody hear him. Well, Finn has heard him, but he can't remember because he was very small at the time.

🐈 CAT — Does your oc prefer a wide circle of friends or a few close friends?

Morrigan always struggled to make friends, since most people first experience his well behaved middle class personality, and then his more wild, sometimes even cruel, side later, which makes them leave since they feel he was tricking them. Nonetheless, he managed to make a few close friends, and he definitely preferred that.

Cosme prefers a few close friends. He's friends with Sam and a couple of other people outside NRC. He spills campus tea to them lmao.

Nkululeko likes a wide circle of friends! His personality gels well with most people, and they generally like him. He's also quite popular on Magicam, and he considers his followers friends in a way.

Timo also struggles to make friends, but he has a few of them that he's close to and definitely prefers it over a bunch of them that could turn on him on a whim.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 FAMILY WITH MOTHER, FATHER, SON AND DAUGHTER — how many people are in your oc's immediate family? how many people are in your oc's extended family? do they have aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc? who in their family are they closest with? are they close with their birth family, or do they have a found family?

Morrigan has a mother, father, a few siblings, as well as a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. No grandparents, unfortunately. And obviously, Silas is his husband. He isn't estranged from his family and loves them deeply, but he always felt rather detached from them, like they didn't really understand him and vise verse. He always felt closest to Silas.

Cosme has two adopted mothers, an adopted sister and a niece. He is very close with all of them and loves them dearly. He spoils his niece rotten ;)

Nkululeko has a father (a human from the Sunset Savanna) and a mother (a Sally Lightfoot Crab beastman from the Land of Dawning), as well as a three younger siblings who he adores and several cousins. He's especially close with his father.

Timo is an orphan. He was not fond of the girl's orphanage he grew up in at all and felt very isolated from the others, and he did not get along with the adults there. He really wanted to find work to get out of there, so he began looking around and found a couple of ads for Silas' business and applied. He did end up babysitting Finn because [insert lamentations spoilers here], and during that time, he got pretty close to Silas and views him as a father figure (he will never admit it out loud he feels too embarrased) and views Finn as his lil brother. It's kind of found family, but also kinda not at the same time.

It Has Begun! Billet Woes Part 1

Disclaimer: This is my first attempt at fanfic. Constructive criticism is always appreciated, rudeness is not.

Word Count: 1,637

Synopsis: You are one of the volunteers scattered throughout Earth Realm and Outworld that have volunteered to billet MK1 protectors that assigned to you when necessary. You take this as the highest honour and are wholly committed to giving your all to being the best host to your temporary billet guest. However, will the guest assigned to you return the same courtesy?

When Lord Liu Kang became the Wielder of the Hourglass, he had sworn to craft a timeline where all the Realms will get the opportunity to experience and therefore value peace. It had taken him aeons to craft a timeline with certain malefactors are neutralized in some individuals to keep evil ambitions and tendencies at bay, whereas certain opportunities to build better lives and relationships were given to others. Overall, it can be attested that it was one of the best timelines, first of its kind, created by the former Earth Realm Champion turned Fire God.

A mutual agreement between Earth Realm and Outworld was established and has been in effect for centuries. Warriors and protectors are temporarily housed and looked after when on active missions and during times where certain locations needed to be patrolled due to the likelihood of unauthorized portals that pose potential risks of invaders and troublemakers.

Few individuals scattered throughout the two realms who not only know of Lord Liu Kang’s and the current Outworld’s ruling monarch’s existence and but are supportive of their missions for peaceful co-existence. Volunteers have been approached by the Fire God himself regarding billeting arrangements, and all have usually been glad to volunteer, unless unexpected life events happen. Some are excited to learn about different realms and their cultures; some love to hear stories of adventures and victorious battles and life experiences while carousing, which can get interestingly hilarious; and some are being paired with certain individuals for, well, who knows what. These types of experiences tend to be like buying one of those plastic eggs from one of those $0.50 gumball machine and getting all excited to find out the contents of the egg that was randomly chosen for you. Sometimes the item’s exciting, sometimes it’s disappointing. Occasionally, it’s painfully amusing.

In the present day, people in your neck of the woods are going about your day-to-day life. You had just finished your shift at your office job and were sorting out stacks of paper to deal with the next day, and then proceeded to put on your camel coat and took your car keys out of your handbag as you positioned the straps on your shoulders and headed to the car.

After passing a few colleagues on your way to the car with pleasantries and well-wishes for the evening and stepped on a banana peel and nearly fell down the stairs, you finally reach your car, hopped in, and suffered the rush hour traffic but had an old CD with nostalgic music from high school playing to keep your sanity.

You finally made it home and settled your stuff in their homes and was greeted by a domestic shorthaired gray and white cat named Minou while the other one named Bijoux, who was an aloof calico cat, couldn’t give a damn; she was perched on top of a cat tree by one of the big windows of your two-bedroom apartment where you’re currently living in alone. You had just gotten settled when you heard a knock on the door. You go to answer it and were in shock as you were greeted by Lord Liu Kang. Your jaw must have dropped to the ground, as always, to which the Fire God responded with a polite smile.

“Greetings, Y/N,” he started, “I am here on billeting business.”

You opened the door wide and gestured for him to come in eagerly and then gave a respectful bow.

“Lord Liu Kang, it is an honour, as always,” you greeted back with a smile, “Would you like some tea?”

“That would be appreciated.”

Both the kitties quickly rushed over to greet the new visitor, with choruses of meows and trills. Minou, the social butterfly of the two immediately busied herself circling and marking the Fire God’s booted feed and then flopped on her back to expose her belly while purring loudly. The Fire God has been marked as one of her favourites. On the other hand, once Bijoux had her fill of sniffing walked away a few feet before settling on staring at Liu Lang with wide and interested eyes. Liu Kang reached down to give the social kitty some pets and chuckled before the both of you met at the living room with you holding a tray of green tea in a tea pot and two sets of cups and saucers. You poured tea in one cup and handed it on the saucer to your very important visitor, which he received appreciatively.

As you went to sit down, you nearly sat on Bijoux who had snuck behind you to take your spot on the couch. You caught yourself on time when she gave a sharp yowl, scratched your butt twice, jumped behind the couch, hissed, and then disappeared into your bedroom.

You shrugged and gave a sheepish look before sitting down on the other couch that is perpendicular to the other one that Liu Kan sat on.

“I will not take too much of your time,” he began, taking a sip of tea.

“I understand I will be billeting someone again,” you nodded, interested to find out who you will be housing this time. You had billeted before and so far, the experiences had been interestingly wonderful. Like, you never thought that you would have a day where you were stuck in Costco for HOURS geeking out over every items with a lovely Outworld demon turned almost human named Ashra, who was fascinated with every samples being offered. Not to mention, she turned heads, partly due to her alluring and attractive appearance and partly due to her Kriss. In the end, both of you exited with $1,500 worth of food, snacks, and beverage items but in high spirits!

“Yes,” he replied, “There is a suspicious area outside your city where a portal has been spotted to materialize and disappear at random intervals. So far, no threats have come out of it, but we must always be vigilant. We are sending a small group to patrol and monitor the area to make sure that all threats, if any, will be neutralized.”

You nodded while listening attentively. The news made you anxious, as the proximity of this anomaly was so close to home. You were vaguely aware of conflicts relating to Earth Realm, Outworld, the Netherrealm, and other realms, though the outcome had always been positive as Liu Kang’s warriors, champions, and allies have always succeeded. Though you played no frontline roles (thank goodness!) in their affairs, you and many other willing volunteers played very important roles in providing support to the realms’ protectors, which is a huge honor in and of itself. Discussions were always had regarding matching a warrior’s schedule in the absence of emergencies with your family lives, schedules, jobs, and, most importantly, financials. Expectations on the billet families roles have always been clear and accommodations. Communication between hosts and guests are a must.

“Since you have been successful in your past billeting experiences, our arrangement continues, unless you no longer can continue,” Liu Kang said, taking another sip of tea. There was never any pressure to accept an arrangement before it began, but are expected to commit once agreed on.

“I’m sure I’m able to continue,” you replied eagerly, “How long am I expected to house a warrior?”

“Give it a month, more or less,” he replied, “I also understand that you enjoy cooking?” He looked at you knowingly with a smile.

“I do enjoy it very much, even though I’m no Master Chef,” you admitted humbly, “It’s more a hobby. I love to explore and try new recipes, and billeting has given me inspiration and drive to do so.”

Liu Kang nodded in confirmation, “Very well, then. I am pairing you with a warrior who is suitable and won’t be difficult to accommodate. He will be part of a group stationed in your city and the members will be on a rotation to patrol the suspicious. His shift is scheduled to coincide with yours as close as possible to minimize any disruption in your day-to-day activities. I understand that you have two jobs?”

“Yes,” Aside from your main job, you also run an Etsy shop, hence the second bedroom, which has become your workshop. So far, your business has been running steadily, that still allows you time to cook, clean and eat out with friends. However, it is mid-September and it tends to pick up as it heads towards the holiday season.

“Can you handle the financial burden of meals and transportation?”

“Yes. I have a fund dedicated to that, and it won’t cut into my day-to-day expenses.”

“Very well. Thank you for aiding us in our mission to keep all the realms safe. May you be blessed” Liu Kang stood up to leave.

“It is an honor, Lord Liu Kang,” You stood and bowed your head in reverence and respect.

He waved his arms in circular motions to summon a portal to what looked like a scenic and beautiful Japanese Garden with a pond in a centre and a beautifully carved wooden bridge over it. You can hear what sounded like warriors training in the background judging by the loud and controlled martial arts sounds.

Liu Kang stepped into the portal, and it quickly vanished.

“Wow! That was amazing,” you said under your breath, staring at a now blank wall. You were brought back to reality when you heard yowling. Startled, you saw Minou staring just as wide eyed at you with her hackles up and crouching as low to the ground as she can. You smiled reassuringly at your fur baby and then went to pick her up to cuddle and stroke her back.

“Looks like we’re gonna meet a new friend!” You cooed into the cat’s fur while giving her rapid kisses.

Do you make your bed? When I remember to/feel like it. Mornings are usually chaos for me, so getting dressed and making myself look presentable usually takes priority over making the bed.

What's your job? Office Manager. I’m happy with it. Definitely not burnt out like I was when I did funerals. I do really miss being a mortician though. Helping people and taking care of them during a tremendously hard time was so fulfilling, and I don’t think I’ll ever not be fascinated by death from a psychological, cultural, and medical perspective. Alas…

Can you parallel park? With a good deal of swearing and asking myself why I’m even doing this.

Do you think aliens are real? It would be stranger if they weren’t.

Can you drive a manual car? Better than a few, worse than most.

What's your guilty pleasure? Hmmm… I don’t really like sweets or candy, but I could absolutely devastate a package of dark chocolate covered orange peels. Those little things are unfairly tasty.

Tattoos? A teeeeeeny tiny Tolkien illustration of Smaug above the crook of my left arm, a hand holding a candle and a flower with the solar system around it (the universe I guess according to the artist? That’s what she called it at least. Its dope and I love it) on my right thigh, a tribal-esque snake that I drew when I was 19 and decided I needed it on me permanently, so it’s between my shoulder blades and has aged terribly. Going to get that covered up with a Big Ass Panther or something probably. Aaaaand a tragic stick n poke on the inside of my left ankle that I did when I was 17 and thought I was edgy. It looks like nothing. Just a bunch of faded dots of ink in the suggestion of a circle. I love tattoos and held off getting any after my snake for so long because I was worried about family and society judging me, but I’ve recently realized how absolutely fucking ridiculous that is, so I’ve already got my next three planned out lol.

Favorite color? Green

Favorite types of music? Any and all. If it’s got a danceable groove or great lyrics, it’s for me.

Do you like puzzles? Hyperfocusing on jigsaw puzzles is one of my favourite pastimes, but I have two cats, and one of them especially likes to “help” so I just don’t bother these days lol. Some brain puzzles stress me out, and numbers don’t work properly in my brain so stuff like Sudoku isn’t for me. I really enjoy riddles and logic puzzles.

Any phobias? Spiders, enclosed spaces, and heights.

Favorite childhood sport? I really enjoyed most sports as a kid and am a naturally athletic person. I really wanted to do hockey, but certain people thought that dancing was more appropriate for a girl, so into ballet I went for years. I did enjoy dancing a lot, and after I quit ballet and jazz, I started ballroom dancing and competed in country ballroom and swing until I turned 18.

Do you talk to yourself? I think my head would literally explode if I didn’t.

What movies do you adore? Oh man… so many. Comfort ones that I’ll always be happy to watch are: The Princess Bride, Kill Bill Vol. 1&2, Only Lovers Left Alive, the lotr trilogy, Moulin Rouge, and Wristcutters: A Love Story

Coffee or Tea? Coffee, but have ventured more into tea over the past year or so. My caffeine sensitivity went bananas when I still did funerals - I think because the funeral coffee I drank all day, every day was so strong my body was eventually just like “nope” so I can have like… max one coffee a day now otherwise I’m just anxious AND tired but can’t fall asleep at bedtime.

First thing you wanted to be growing up? An acrobat lol.

I saw this in another fandom and now I'm sending the same question to a bunch of Jake girlies (gn) because it’s so interesting seeing everybody’s answers!

Who are your top 3 Jake boys and why? Is there a specific piece of art (fic, gif, fan art, etc.) for them that you like a lot?

My top 3 Jakes? Ooh this is a good question!

3. Elwood Dalton- The most recent and actually the dope that got me to change my theme and whatnot. He's that good.

2. Jack Twist- Because there will never be another movie like Brokeback Mountain. The cast, the writing, the direction, the cultural significance, and the music is of such high caliber to even think it can be duplicated is bananas. Heath and Jake made something undefinable and magical. Created a love so real that to witness it, is to mourn a life. Jack Twist is and will be arbiter of love undying forever.

Donnie Darko- And at number one is Donnie because even though Bubble Boy was my first Jake movie I ever remember seeing him in, it was Mr Darko that made me sit up and pay attention. All of 10 years old in the movies with my sister that dragged me along to see this movie realizing, "oh shit, this is really something. I don't understand, or grasp all this but boy howdy this is cool looking. And that dude is definitely gonna be a problem for me."

Bonus: Billy Hope- And lastly cuz I just couldn't help it is Billiam Hope himself. He's the most dangerous character Jake's ever played because I still to this day think I can fix him. Yo don't even worry about all that Billy boy, I know you need me. He's the reason I have the tag "Tragedy is a boy named Billy" and why I've been BillyBoyBlue for a while. I'm not even going to get in to the nitty gritty because we'll be here all day. He was robbed for this movie.

I'm gonna say what were all thinking, it takes a special kind of actor to have such a spectrum of characters. I can count on one hand the actors with comparable resumes. Where is his Oscar!? What is the problem?

some informational tidbits about her under the cut! (her whole profile/backstory post is still separate i will make it when i have time ong)

she’s actually an alcoholic. the type where her tolerance is so high, in her story, her vault 13 canteen is actually full of scotch and not water. she brings a separate canister for water, but even then, it’s more likely the vault 13 canteen is full as opposed to her water bottle. she’s fond of scotch, and if she had more leeway, she’d be shaking csravaners and bartenders down for her native baijiu.

her birthday is June 6, 2253. Her birth time? 7:06 PM. (a gemini sun, libra moon, and sagittarius rising…yeah, and a cancer venus, too. as someone with a lot of earth signs myself, i genuinely think she’s fated to be doomed with melancholia LMFAO)

she will raze the wasteland for some banana yucca fruit. to may, it’s the universe’s gift for the little good that’s left in the world; it also reminded her of her mother’s pastries back home, which she’d sometimes use bananas for.

when no one’s watching (or so she thinks—boone has caught her a dozen times), while out in the wasteland, when innocents die, she picks broc flowers and leaves them by their corpses. when she can move their bodies, she does, laying them to rest behind a stone so at least they could get some respect in death.

on that note, it’s one of the reasons why the legion gradually infuriated her. in Shi culture, death rites are held in high regard, and that stuck with her. so to find corpses of murdered civillians disrespectfully laden with bombs and traps, used to bring about the death of another? it brought such a sour taste to her mouth even her aura, the air about her: it darkens, becomes heavier.

she has holotapes of Shi music she’d been meaning to make a player for, but just couldn’t find the time. her getting shot was a blessing in disguise: when doc mitchell gave her the pip-boy, it made her happier somewhat that it could read all the songs she’d been collecting for the past few years. so instead of Johnny Guitar, you’re more likely to hear Lily Chao’s Shepherdress, or even Slim Whitman’s China Doll.

in early game, may only uses one gun: the assault rifle she used to escape the Shi prison, which she added with a silencer and kept in good condition as it was the only weapon that kept her alive all these years. it was also the only one she could afford. however, as she builds her skill in guns, she starts to explore.

may is most proficient in melee and unarmed. back in the Empire of Shi, they teach the military a lot of martial arts techniques, and alongside her brother who taught her she watched military training and followed along—much to her father’s chagrin, especially during the times when she’d sneak out of class or a meeting with the Shi high society matchmaker to learn the latest move.

in this vein, it’s actually a reprieve that may guns you down. because while she’s got a small frame, she’s agile…and her hands and feet kick where it hurt. have you ever been on the receiving end of punches so strong and fast you don’t even see it coming until you black out, barely registering the surprise? a thug in freeside would tell you all about it, but he’d have to be alive to do so. unfortunately for him, may kicked a little too hard. oops.

there’s also a small moment after she returns from Big MT where boone asks her to teach him some of her moves. of course it’s a tension filled moment. of course may beats boone’s bigger frame. of course it turns boone on to be kicked in the face and pinned to the ground by this gorgeous woman.

ALSO: how boone and may met! of course, it was inside Dinky the Dinosaur’s mouth; hard-pressed for caps, may didn’t want to go into the lobby and lob over her precious caps, few and far between, for lodging. she doesn’t see boone’s gun, so she gets the smart idea to squat up that dinosaur’s mouth, just sleep for three hours before hunting down her platinum chip.

imagine boone’s surprise when a masked girl sneaks up on him silently. when he raises his rifle, it freaks may out, and her instinct in close quarters is to go into Butterfly Angel on this man’s face before he can pull the trigger. it ends with may overpowering boone, her face over his as he looks up at her.

“you legion?”

a pause. at this point, may only knew of them from nipton and rumors from the other people in the mojave. “the costumed freaks from the east? no.”

“then what are you doing here? who the hell are you?”

“wanted a place to sleep. cheap. didn’t think someone would be here,” she says, letting him go as the two stand up while the sun rises. and the rest is history.

may would never say it aloud, but she’d always wanted a family of her own. if survival was an assurance, not a slim possibility in the wasteland, she’d have more incentive to settle down—but alas, she doesn’t want her children to suffer the same fate.

surprisingly, she gets along well with veronica. may and boone stop at the 188 enough for veronica to chat may up, and eventually she lets her join them (to boone’s chagrin, but he eventually grew to like veronica’s chatter—because it often gave him a chance to hear may’s voice. later on, maybe even a dry laugh, when veronica says a stupid joke.)

may lives in an eternal conundrum in terms of her appearance: people can’t tell if 23 is too young for her expression and personality to be as grumpy and unsociable as it is, or if it’s surprisingly older because of her youthful face. she could pass for 19–hell, she could pass for a model.

it’s why she goes out masked in the wasteland. she knew being ‘pretty’ (she hated the word, like it was all she was supposed to be the way people gushed at her over it) was a reason to be targeted more often, so she always concealed her face.

boone doesn’t even see her face until she meets mr. house and he’s invited to the presidential suite, where jane the securitron gives may a change of clothes. after a shower and slipping into the black gown, it almost gives boone a heart attack: this is what this woman looked like? holy shit. what the hell?

after getting the platinum chip from benny, she also sneaks out of the strip using the NCR monorail because she had a bad feeling about Mr. House. it’s why she’s in businesswear and shades: not the best disguise, but at least it wasn’t her merc clothes.

OKAY that’s a lot of rambling >< i just love may a lot?! i can already see people in new vegas in the tv show talking about “courier six” and one gambler going “i heard she was the meanist and smartist bitch in the wasteland!” and this gambler would be RIGHT.
