The Seven Christmas Spirits

Based on the BTS SBS Christmas show 2019

Chapter One: The Beginning

In a small town, not so far away from where you are right now, there was a little girl. The little girl’s family had little money, so she never received much for Christmas, but she loved it all the same. She walked through her small town, looking at all the lights in the windows, and smiling as the snow fell. She passed by the Christmas market. People sold beautiful ornaments, colorful candies, wrapping paper, and ribbons so big and red that the little girl thought she must've been dreaming. She wondered at these lovely things, but they weren't for her. At least, that is what she'd been told by her mother.

She happened across an old man pushing his cart, full of stockings, up the snowy hill. The little girl watched curiously as he pushed. Suddenly, something fell out of his pocket and into the snow. She quickly ran over, picking up a beautiful porcelain bell. She smiled as she brushed the snow off of it. It was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen. She looked at it in wonder, then back at the old man. He was still pushing the cart, unaware of the treasure he'd lost. The little girl looked down at the bell. She couldn't possibly steal something so beautiful.

She ran over to the man and tugged at his sleeve. He looked down at her in surprise.

"You dropped this," she said, offering him the bell.

He gasped, taking the bell back, this time securing it safely in his pocket with a button.

"Would you like some help?" she asked him, pointing to the cart.

The man smiled. "Yes, please."

The little girl helped the man, pushing the cart up the snowy hill, though she didn't feel that she was being much help. Soon, they reached the top. The little girl smiled as she looked back down the hill at the marketplace. The little lights and shops looked even more beautiful from far away.

"Here," came the man's voice.

The little girl turned to see the man offering her one of the red stockings from his cart. She looked up at him in surprise.

"Merry Christmas," he said with a smile. "This is a gift for helping me."

She took the stocking, that same look of wonder returning to her face. She'd never had her own red stocking before! She usually used her mother's old one, but this! This one would be hers!

She bowed to him, saying, "Thank you. Thank you very much," before tucking the stocking into her satchel and taking off. She ran back down the hill, over the snow filled lanes and down the street toward her house. These houses all looked the same, lined up one after the other. There were no Christmas lights here. Nonetheless, she ran with a smile on her face. She burst into the house, taking off her coat and putting her satchel down.

"Mom!" she cried, "Mom!"

She ran into the kitchen. Her mother sat there, food steaming out of bowls. It smelled delicious, and there was so much of it. She breathed it in, smiling at the familiar scents.

"You better hurry, it might get cold," her mother said playfully.

The little girl gasped, scrambling up into her chair. She looked down at the food. She didn't realize how hungry she'd been until now, and although there wasn't much, she'd enjoy it all the same.

"Well, go ahead," her mother said, picking up her own set of chopsticks and taking her food from the bowls. The little girl smiled and did the same. Once they were done, and the bowls were picked clean, the little girl's mother began to clean up.

"Now hurry and brush your teeth before bed," her mother instructed.

"But Mom, it's Christmas," the little girl whined.

"Exactly," her mother said. "If you don't go to sleep soon, Santa might not come at all."

The little girl's eyes widened. "Oh no!" she cried, racing toward the bathroom.

Her mother laughed, amused as she cleaned the dishes, putting them out to dry.

The little girl cleaned up quickly before finally heading toward the fireplace to warm up. She put her hands in front of the fire to warm them. Just as she did she remembered her stocking. She beamed, racing over to her satchel and picking it up off the floor. She took out the beautiful red stocking and hung it up carefully on the fireplace. Then she turned, kneeling down on the carpet to pray. She said a quick prayer for her family the best of Christmases, before crawling into bed. She closed her eyes, excited. Eventually, she fell fast asleep.

Far above the little girl, riding just above the clouds, Jungkook rode in a beautiful red sleigh. Even though there were no flying reindeer, he streaked through the night sky all the same. He watched over all the little houses far below him, their lights going out one by one as children went to bed. The wind whipped through his tinted red hair as he looked over all of them, asleep in their beds, waiting for Christmas to arrive at last. He smiled fondly as he watched them sleep and saw their dreams.

Suddenly, he was stopped by something sad. He flew lower, toward a small town. He looked down at a small brown house where, inside, a mother was softly crying as her daughter slept. Jungkook felt an ache in his heart. No one should be sad on Christmas Eve. As he searched her mind, he saw that the mother hadn't had enough money to buy her daughter a gift, and she would wake up on Christmas morning with no presents. Jungkook smiled. He could fix that. He looked back at the presents in his sleigh. He must have something for her. He dug around before pulling out a beautiful golden wrapped gift. It was perfect.

Slowly, he lowered his sleigh from the sky, landing softly in front of the small house. He stepped inside, opening the door and closing it behind him with only a small creek. First, he walked over to the mother, who was still crying. He gently reached out a hand, touching her shoulder, and her tears turned into a gentle sleep. Jungkook made extra care to give her only the best of dreams.

Then he walked into the living room. The girl's bed was tucked into a corner, and the fireplace burned brightly. On the mantle sat a few stockings, but he felt only one mattered. He looked at the girl fondly. She was dreaming about talking snowmen, and he couldn't help but smile. He carefully placed her gift inside the brightest red stocking, and when he turned around again, the little girl was awake. It had been awhile since a child had woken up while he visited. She must've been a very special girl indeed. He put a finger to his lips, and she seemed to understand. Her eyes were wide with wonder, and Jungkook waved at her. She waved back at him with a smile.

Then he walked over to her bedside and whispered, "Hello.”

She smiled up at him. "Hello, who are you?"

"I'm a spirit," Jungkook explained in a soft voice. "I'm the spirit of Christmas Dreams, Jungkook. I see what you would like most for Christmas."

"Do you really?" the little girl asked in wonder.

Jungkook usually wouldn't entertain children he visited. There were a few exceptions of course, but he couldn't remember the last time he led a child into the spirit world. It must've been at least a century ago. Yet, there was something about this little girl he just couldn't resist.

"Would you like to see?" he asked finally, offering his hand to her.

Her eyes widened, looking down at his open hand. "Really?"

"Just this once," he said. "Just for you."

She beamed, taking his hand. He helped her down from her bed and they walked across the room toward the door.

"Are you ready?" he whispered.

She nodded enthusiastically before he swung open the door.

Honestly, Namjoon loved to learn new things, so when you woke him up one night to tell him a random fact about penguins you read earlier that day, he didn’t mind one bit. He found it endearing actually and it made him just more fond of you.

Y/n: “Did you know that Little Blue Penguins are the smallest type of penguin, they’re so adorable!”

Namjoon: “I bet they are y/n, you’ll have to show me tomorrow but let’s go back to sleep for now” 

Seokjin

Seokjin would be all whiny like a child that got woken up by their parents and told to go to bed. You couldn’t resist waking him up though, your tongue was basically itching to tell him about a very interesting fact you learnt about slugs. Even though he seemed annoyed, Seokjin would still listen to you ramble on all the while still being half asleep.

Y/n: “Jinnie...who would have thought that slugs have 4 noses??? Like imagine smelling food with 4 noses!!!”

Seokjin: “Are you trying to make me feel bad or something??”

Yoongi

Anyone that knows Yoongi knows that Yoongi LOVES his sleep; and if anyone ever wakes him when he’s sleeping, they’ll surely regret it. But when it’s you on the other hand.... he could never be mad, so when one night you had the urge to tell him something you learnt, he just listened and noded his head, internally going all soft hearing you talk.

Y/n: “Guess what! Snails can sleep up to 3 years! I bet you’d love if you could sleep for that long”

Yoongi: “Sigh...why wasn’t I born a snail?” 

Hoseok

Hoseok would leap out of bed with his hands up ready to attack whoever had wakened him up. Upon seeing that it was you he’d calm down and let out a sigh of relief then proceed to ask why you had woken him up. He’d listen intently with admiration in his eyes as you told him all about what you found so fascinating.

Y/n: “Did you know a cow gives nearly 200,000 glasses of milk in a lifetime. Cows are the greatest, they give so much and they never complain, all they want is grass....just grass....wow”

Hoseok: “They are amazing, we don’t deserve them”

Jimin

Jimin was sound asleep as you laid on his chest but unlike Jimin, your brain was going 100 miles a minute and you just couldn’t sleep. You were reading animal facts just before you went to bed and now you couldn’t stop thinking about them. Feeling the urge to tell someone, you nudged Jimin’s shoulder to wake him up. He stirred and opened his eyes and gave you a concerned look, wondering why you were waking him up at a time like this.

Y/n: “Jiminie....I know this is very random and you’re really tired but did you know that around 50 percent of orangutans have fractured bones, due to falling out of trees on a regular basis.......the poor things....I feel bad for them...”

Jimin: “Sound like if Namjoon was an animal...” he’d giggle just thinking about it.

Taehyung

You and Taehyung were night owls and usually stayed up late and went sleep at ridiculous times but tonight he had crashed and went sleep before you. Since you were up by yourself and bored out of your mind, you found yourself reading fun facts about tigers (don’t ask how you got there) You came across an intereting fact about tiger and had to share it with Tae...so you proceeded to wake him up.

Y/n: “I was reading about animals earlier and came across an article that said that Tiger cubs leave their mother when they are around 2 years of age. Isn’t that sad but courageous at the same time..... I have so much respect for them”

Taehyung: “Oh my God that’s horrible.....I suddenly miss my eomma....EOMMAAAAAA...!” he’d run off to find his phone to call his mother with fat tears in his eyes.

Jungkook

It hadn’t been a solid 10 minutes since Jungkook fell asleep and although you didn’t want to disturb him....you just couldn’t help it. Lightly tapping his shoulder to get his attention, he slowly opened his eyes and glared at you. Without giving him a second to comprehend anything you just blurted out what was on your mind. He was a little taken back but he still managed a smart reply.

Y/n: “Can you believe Giraffes don’t have any vocal cords! Imagine not being able to sing.......you’d be out of a job.”

Jungkook: “It’s a good thing I’m not a giraffe then” he’d smirk, eyes half open half shut.
