remembered rokko's basillisk was a thing, laughed at it, looked it up on here to see what people thought of it, learned that there was a subreddit dedicated to mocking Yudowskyites, briefly looked at it, looked up subreddit name on tumblr- it's all Stranger Things x reader fanfiction for some reason

Roko’s basillisk is just pascal’s wager for tech-bros. Seriously, both use the argument that potential eternal torture at the hands of a extremely powerful entity that may or may not exist outweighs all costs that one could pay in fulfilling it’s wishes. The difference is that ostensibly the basillisk is bound by the laws of physics, and god isn’t. Also, a resurrected version of me centuries in the future has had a cessation of consciousness and brain function longer than it would take for 50% cell death to occur and as such is not the same me that I am.

OC AND REIGN LORE

ok so this is still a work in progress because I’m new but here are a couple of characters y’all might just enjoy:

They live in a different Earth where magik is recognized but also frowned upon immensely.

Lucas Holt

American, born in Texas. 20 year old gay male.

Cryptid hunter by night, student at a local college by day.

He has naturally brown curly hair, which he struggles to keep maintained. He struggles with depression but has slowly been getting better as he entered a romantic relationship with Jakob (and later Anthony). He is unaware of Jakob’s true nature until late in the timeline, after he figures out AM’s a magikal creature.

He has hunted cryptids not to kill them, but to release them into protected areas. He is unaware that these “protected areas” set aside by the government are actually soul-sucking zones full of waste and sickness until he investigates one with AM. His father and mother were famous for their anti-magik propaganda during the First Reign.

When he becomes ill he first denies it, then rationalizes how he is feeling against other causes such as allergies or exhaustion. When he is extremely sick, he clams up and won’t talk unless he has to.

Aythos Myrk // Anthony Matthew (alias)

Indian/American, born in California. 20 year old pan male.

Since moved to Texas

Cryptid magik user who has, since his [information redacted]’s gruesome death, stopped using magic altogether aside from a few minor glamours.

He dyes his naturally blue hair black in order to blend in better. He dangerously removed his horns in an attempt to stunt his magikal flow the year after his [information redacted] passing. His eyes shift colors depending on his emotions due to his extremely unstable power: emotional manipulation.

He swore to never use his power on others, not even to relax or calm them. He loses control of this power when he’s very sick, and once induced a heart attack from stress in his elderly neighbor who dropped in to check on him during a nasty bout of flu.

Jakob Kazakov

Russian/American, born in Alaska. 20 year old bisexual male.

Pheromone laced cryptid boy with a penchant for hanging out on school grounds.

Constantly sweaty, he oozes pheromones if he doesn’t apply enough scent blocker. While this does make him incredibly attractive, extended exposure to his pheromones renders the victim prone to hallucinations, vivid delusions and gastrointestinal distress due to dizziness.

Pale pink in almost every sense, he has to wear dark blue contacts to protect his eyes. He likes to wear soft, absorbent clothing. When he becomes unwell, he stops sweating, which can be dangerous if he runs a fever.

Kaj Asgier

Nordic/Czech, born in Scandinavia. 22 year old lesbian.

Anthony’s oldest friend, a closet magik user and an excellent alchemist/chemist. She loves to invent elixirs and balms for healing wounds and ailments. They only sometimes backfire.

She has extremely long black hair, skin pale as milk. She is short and soft as cotton candy. Wiccan, she prays to two Gods of healing, one Greek and one Egyptian. She cannot fall ill due to her natural immunity to ailments - this is from her sacrifices to gods of healing and health over he years. She is extremely succeptible to several allergens, however. These include but are not limited to cats, feathers, moss and several types of pollen.

Opal Ecans

Abusive ex girlfriend of Anthony, who drove him to attempt taking his own life. 21 year old female.

She is blonde, tall and generally perfect, which leads others to believe she is a good influence on Anthony. However after her appearance he grows more and more depressed, until it is eventually revealed that [information redacted].

The Basillisk Family

Government-engineered, these triplets are the only three synthetically grown magik users in the universe. They were bred to hunt down magik users and kill them in a bid to extinguish magik use and enforce the Reign’s control. They are all tall, and their hair is so blonde it looks unreal. They do not age, and they do not experience sexual attraction.

Rudyare Basillisk - firstborn, angry and out of control. Red eyes.

Paîga Basillisk - the only girl, killed in an altercation with [information redacted]. Blue eyes.

Quincy Basillisk - finalborn, calm and collected. Green eyes.

I think so, yeah. ;) It’s colorful, it grows quickly, and it pretty much never tangles. It gets messy as a side effect of wind and not brushing, but overall it behaves very well.

ooc: Okay, but since Eclipse Lake is not canon on this blog, and the set up of Luz getting Titan’s Blood to even be able to talk to Vee or her mom is canon, plus the background I have about changelings and dopplegangers on this blog....

...I want Hunter (of course with Belos’ permission whether or not Belos is present at all other than background knowledge he signed off on this) to go to Luz and be all ‘hey, heard from Kikimora that your girlfriend and Owl Lady were looking for Titan’s Blood and I’m assuming that’s to get you home. Since I kinda IOU (and so does Belos but shh) for saving my life, if you have the portal key, the door’s relatively fixed if you wanna go home before the opportunity closes for years or maybe forever after the Day of Unity. But I have to tag along to yank you out if your family and friends turn on you and try to burn you at the stake, okay? Also there might be a double of you there, so be aware.’ So they show up with Vee and Camilla out front in the opening and of course Vee freaks out and tries to run only for Hunter to catch her with magic and when he realizes she’s a Basillisk just goes ‘OH okay that’s a lot easier to deal with than the Titan made changeling. Great!’ Which then ends up with all of them sitting around the kitchen table explaining everything to Camilla while poor Vee’s getting more and more freaked out because the Golden Guard is RIGHT THERE and the one keeping her from jumping out the window and running. Until Hunter drops the ‘I’m just here to protect the girl you were trying to replace. Basillisks are only a threat to those with magic, right? And no one here has magic.’ Plus he lets her use some of his artificial magic to try and shape shift again, but points out he’s not staying for longer than a day (because he can’t and Belos is terrified of him being in the Human Realm because oh gawds the trauma) so if she wants to have a life outside of the house in the future, they need to find another source of magic for her. So they end up going to Gravesfield anyway, where Luz gets some angst realizing maybe she could have made friends with other humans at camp, and Hunter gets his own with the confrontation that his dad had a whole other life and Hunter had other family members in the Human Realm he doesn’t know/never got to meet and likely never will because his dad can’t even remember any of his own. Plus, the witch hunter guy maybe trying to make a scene but they just... kick his ass like in canon without traumatizing Vee and getting her a decent supply of cards.

I guess the ending would have to be open depending on the Luz because she might have snuck away with Hunter without telling Eda and feels like she needs to let Eda know where she’s going before coming back home, or if she wants Hunter to let Eda know what happened, or if she wants to keep going back and forth for a few days to get everything sorted. But Camilla and Vee would still have each other, and hopefully not in the state canon decided to leave Camilla in. (Because fuck that honestly.)

I think the Raine could also, maybe, be a Basillisk? If the shots we see with eyes are just random shots to fit together, and not super related as like "Raine is remembering things" it could be a Basillisk that Belos is making impersonate Raine for the public eye.

Either way it goes i am just, hype to see my spouse again

ohhh that's also possible!! and illusionists also exist so i'm guessing it would also be doable to "illusion" yourself into looking like someone else (like.. raine 👁)

although i feel like in the close-up shot it really is them, cuz the little red glare on their glasses reminds me of the veins spell's color (it might not be even in the same episode as the close-up shots of younger raeda tho, but oh it'd be neat.. it'd be neat.... especially if raine's looking at eda, that'd be a neat little parallel/juxtaposition)
