Temenos Mistral for the character ask game! (Because you were talking about them earlier!)

First impression: "Oh, he seems neat, wonder what his story will be about."

Impression now: I love Temenos, one of my top favorite characters from the game, probably my scond-fave after Ochette. He's such an interesting character and his story (gripes I might have with the pacing aside) was unexpected for a "cleric" story, based on what I'd seen with Ophilia and some of the clerics from CotC. Honestly I'd write up an entire character analysis if I had the energy to do so, bc there is so much going on with him.

Favorite moment: A few different ones, but I really like how any time that the façade he puts up starts to slip, this sheer force of anger slips through--that's good stuff. Love that his "In Pursuit of Truth" theme also sounds much more energetic and aggressive when compared to his normal theme song (and like, I'm not well-versed with music terms and stuff, but Temenos is also the only character whose "In Pursuit of..." song has a significantly different tempo and more aggressive melody when compared to the standard theme, if I recall correctly).

Idea for a story: Hmm, do the two rewrite ideas of his main narrative that I have floating in my head count? Like I've said, something about the general pacing of events and a handful of narrative elements in his story don't really work for me, and as a result his story arc doesn't seem as strong compared to the others' stories. Not all of it is "bad writing" or anything, like the writers clearly had a plan in mind, and I know some of it is just my personal taste...but yeah, I have a "canon compliant, trying to match the general narrative motifs and themes of the rest of the characters" rewrite idea, and a "mostly canon compliant, but definitely changing some things to fit my personal tastes which therefore go against one or two of the overall recurring themes and motifs" rewrite idea. I'll probably never do anything with them though bc it's more like...anytime I come across story writing that I thought was really good, I try to figure out what about it I liked and how the writers set it up, and any time I come across story writing that doesn't work, I do the same thing where I try to figure out why I didn't like it and then try to figure out how I'd write it myself, and this is like, a little mental enrichment I do just for fun and also to try and sharpen my own preferences and sensibilities for storytelling and writing. So like, I don't technically have that much beef with his story, and I don't want to come off as "I'm a better writer than the original writers" or even that I thought the original arc was bad (it really wasn't bad writing per se), it's more just a thing I came up with for myself for funsies and as a mental exercise in narrative, more so than an actual like, critique of the original story.

Unpopular opinion: I uh, I don't ship him with Crick...or anyone actually. In fact the Temenos x Crick ship really does not float my goats (nothing against anyone who enjoys the ship, you do you and all that, it's just not my cup of tea). I actually read and more or less headcanon Temenos as aroace, and even if I didn't, he's got like 2934820398432 unresolved trust issues, so I'd have a hard time seeing him be able to enter into a romantic relationship anyhow. But that's just my reading, again no shade to anyone who has a different reading/headcanons.

Favorite relationship: I love his interactions with all the other main characters, but I find his weird friendship with Ochette to be really, really interesting especially (I'd write up an analysis and list of thoughts on this too if I had the energy). Outside of the main cast, what little we get to see of his interactions with Jorg, along with what we learn after Jorg gets murdered, is really fascinating to me as well. They have a very unusual familial/professional relationship (although given that Benedict and Anna's wildly unconventional familial relationship is also super interesting to me, I'm thinking I might just be an enjoyer of unconventional and murky adopted familial relationships in fiction).

Favorite headcanon: I am fond of the idea of him being related to Alpates and Throne by blood, although as I've turned the headcanon over in my head and whittled it like a wood carving, it's developed into something really specific with basically no in-game source to back it up, so it's a 100% bona fide "I just made something up and went with it" headcanon that I keep modifying and changing. Basically, I think he's got a situation similar to Hikari's, but significantly more subdued since he doesn't have an evil shadow version of himself trying to talk him into murdering everyone, and that his blood ties to Alpates's bloodline are stronger than his blood ties to D'arqest. Some more specifics about that under the cut bc explaining myself requires talking about late-game spoilers.

(Specifically rather than being directly Claude's son, I think it's entirely possible some of the Blacksnakes were able to have kids of their own, like Father did, without Claude finding out about them and having the child killed, and that even potentially those kids might have had kids, thinning the blood ties to Claude further--so rather than being Throne's half-sibling, Temenos would be more uh...*checks cheat-sheet chart for familial ties* ummm...her half-grand-nephew, god I hate everything about that phrase why does anything relating to Claude have to be a string of "wtf??"s). I keep changing this headcanon slightly (I did originally start from the base of having him and Throne as half-siblings), so who knows just how much it's gonna change before I settle on something I'm really happy with, but I do like the idea a lot.

anyway earlier me an my friends were discussing what kinda clothes the main cast of omor would wear bc.... yk half of the cast is in fucking npc ass attire, and we went back and forth about it a lot and now i feel obligated to share this with other people to see if they might agree with my headcanons

mari - for mari i feel like she's very much a cardigan girly, sundresses all the time, probably like sweetheart and square necklines on a lot of her shirts, and she consistently puts lots of time into her appearance, more so for her own pleasure than anything else. however if she doesnt get to change out of pajamas she'd probably get a little upset and feel unproductive as a result - idk she just seems very schedule oriented and i feel her clothing style and habits would match that. she 100% irons clothes, if somethings wrinkly shes not wearing it, and she'd lean into the academia aesthetic. she also gives summer vibes to me, but that might just be because the main canon images of her are during summertime - also lots of purples and yellows, purples her fav color and yellow is the complementary color, plus a color associated with bright light and summertime

hero - he'd probably have a more basic style of fashion, but still look very cute in it. like big sweatshirts, long coats, button ups, wide leg jeans, collared shirts, clean shoes, all in all a very clean look. he prob has some of mari's jackets in his closet that he wears pretty frequently. also he would always wear earrings BECAUSE I SAID SO I THINK ITS AWESOME he might also be a bit into academia fashion, but less over-the-top "i'm the top professor of this college" look and more just autumnal tones and mildly professional attire. also i feel like hero would iron some of kel's clothes if he noticed they were very wrinkled, which might result in hero running out of time to iron clothes for himself, in which he just switches his outfit last minute. this is hyperspecific but but but but but yes

kel - this man does not know fashion, all his tips are from hero, which hero got from mari. his wardrobe probably consists of graphic tees he found funny or pretty, hand-me-downs from hero, and plain shirts and jeans, probably with a couple rips in them from him being reckless. also he always wears some sort of brace, either on his arm or leg he is consistently getting hurt in some minor way /j dirty converses real!! also probably some pen/pencil marks on articles of clothing from getting bored and deciding to doodle randomly on them. also bracelets from random fundraisers or from crafts with the rest of the gang

aubrey - shes actually kinda hard for me to figure out, but i ffeel like aubrey would be wearing a lot of graphic tshirts and tank tops, but like those ones with extra detail yk the ones the grunge ones yeah those, and like huge cargo pants or wide leg jeans, chains hanging from pockets, necklaces and bracelets, and generally ripped things. so kinda punk but also still very fem and not very out there in terms of fashion styles . however this would only be half the time, this half is when she's really feeling like putting in effort to look nice, probably being like "im gonna be like mari today" and spending a good chunk of time putting together an outfit and such. the other half she's fucking done with it and throws on whatever shirt she can find and some pants, tosses her hair a little bit and throws on eyeliner and is out the door, somehow looking gorgeous still. like that effortlessly pretty look even when theres nothing outstanding abt the outfit

basil - grandma ass /j he probably thrifts constantly and the antique store is one of his fav places, so it seeps into how he dresses. lots of sweatshirts with intricate embroidered or sewn in designs, coats, lots of browns and greens, and very worn things. probably wears some traditionally feminine things he finds too jsut because he thought they were nice, again think grandmacore /j he's a very green and wiggly boy, lots of layers in his outfits, and is pretty rarely seen with short sleeve shirts. also collared shirts, messenger bags, pins, custom patches, and friendship bracelets. his clothing represents who he is and can tell a lot about him for the most part, basically story telling through what he wears since he has so many accessories that come from different places. also lots of floral patterns because he's he's the flower boy the little man the flower guy . in summary cottagecore mori kei esque things

sunny - his ass is not putting together outfits /j ok so i feel like sunny is the type to save his energy for other things, i feel like socializing might be a bit draining for him but he loves his friends, so he kind of switches up how he uses his energy to accommodate. but sometimes he'd probably wanna be like mari and put himself otgether, so he probably goes shopping with her and has cute clthes, his outfits just end up being very simple with a graphic tshirt and maybe an oversized jacket. HE ALWAYS WEARS SHORTS!!!! he dislikes the feel of pants and preferred shorts, even if he's cold. if he'd cold he just kinda balls up and puts a jacket around his legs. anyway i feel like he's probably being restricted a lot by his preferences (i hc he has autism and this is one of the ways it impacts him) so he's not the most fashionable person

casual wip of my mortal kombat oc!! (specifically in mk1 universe)

their full name is Rhy'savyn Alunan (they/them), but goes by Rhys for short. they're half-human (earthrealm), half-outworldian. their outworld species is one that i created called Silvarians, and they're kinda akin to like dryad-wood elf kinda ppl!! despite being part-human, they're well-received by the Silvarian ppl bc i'd imagine their kind are like. super uber fascinated and curious abt all walks of life LMFAO. ofc, there's still doubt cast upon Rhys's potential bc, due to their half-human nature, they don't have a strong affinity to magic. to circumcent that tho, Rhys has these special tattoos on their body. the ink is imbued with magic which allows them to have better control over what innate magic affinity they have.

on their human side, they're filipino!! their mom (a Silvarian noble and i headcanon was a past mortal kombat champ centuries ago) met their dad some time before main story events. tho they considered bearing a child, Silvarians didn't procreate in the way that's normally known. so Rhys's mom ultimately gave up her life to bring them into existence. thus, Rhys's whole personal conflict thing revolves around being overcast by their mother's shadow. towards the current storyline, Rhys is also slated to participate in the tournament (even choosing to represent their realm. i'd imagine they were given a choice between earthrealm or their realm) but those same doubts over their potential sorta, well, bug them LMFAO. but they do their best not to dwell too much on what ppl say lol

so:

Life is Weird is a Life is Strange-inspired AU i created in 2017!

the askblog it started with (@asklifeisweird) follows Michael as the protagonist (a la max caulfield), and Jeremy as the equivalent to chloe price.

there's a couple more roles that were originally fairly 1:1 (squip as jefferson, rich as nathan, chloe as victoria, christine as kate, dustin as rachel), but over the years they've mostly grown away from being "reskins" as me and my boyf keep developing the au!

i've also stolen several characters from the BMC book– either entirely or just in name– to fill the background space/chars, since LIS has a whole world of characters and BMC as a musical kinda... didn't, at least back in the day :'D now there's more named bg chars, but keep in mind this AU started before even the 2017 Exit82 revival, so we had uhhh about 11 characters and a book. anyway.

while the askblog itself hasn't exactly gotten very far in the story yet, the au has grown to include more LIS-based ideas as That franchise grew, alongside a lot of our own brainstorming ofc!! there's SEVERAL other stories planned following other characters besides Michael, and a lot of different timelines i'd LOVE to explore (some during blog canon, some just in side stories)

not to mention: since conception, the blog has gone through so many styles of getting the story out there that i consider it a multimedia project at this point. askblog with square panel comics in between, full-on comic pages, writing/fics... and most recently, bust-sprites with different expressions and text in between. i'm also working to add interactive fiction into the mix!!

Michael's story (nicknamed "Redshift" behind the scenes) mostly follows the same beats as the first LIS game, but the further in we get the more we've added to it. i'm especially excited for the LIW-equivalent to the alternate timeline LIS1 shows in (iirc) ep4, as well as the timeline post-Redshift that's inspired by the LIS1 comics :)

shifting tracks, i mentioned this was started Before the first musical revival. because of that and the revival coming out like 2 months later, a lot of the original character designs were based off the 2RT/2015 cast, the E82/2017 cast, or entirely headcanon-based. since then, as more productions happened, appearances have shifted or changed completely!

off the top of my head, some of the more notable ones are:

jeremy: 2RT for current, E82 for younger

brooke: E82 for current, 2RT/NYC for younger

dustin: originally all headcanon, now mainly E82 with some hc

jenna: originally 2RT, now mainly NYC

jake: originally 2RT, now NYC + clothing insp from 2RT

i'd like to take inspiration from other productions as well tbh, but i can't change full appearances much anymore since i've done the fullbody sprites already and i don't wanna completely redraw anyone if i don't have to XD

Yep, sometimes I entirely forget about that spongebob episode the main cast gets transformed into babies. Considering the way it was portrayed I've always assumed that one in particular was fetish but yeah. I had to look it up to make sure that one wasn't a fever dream. No hate to anyone but that wasn't my favorite episode. I liked Grandma's Kisses or whatever that episode was called a lot more. Way more relatable. Me too spongebob. Me too. Anyways I always disliked that episode with the gas.

Anyways back on topic.

I think a lot more people are regressors and transage than they think 🤷‍♂️ the idea is very comforting to a lot of people. Of course it shows up in stories a lot, it's fun :3 and like I said last ask, it's a genuinely useful little gag to pull in order to get really over the top mature and stoic types to let their guard down and have a little fun or force them into a safe state of vulnerability so they can be protected and loved. And of course like many cartoons, like how I mentioned above, I won't say it's never because someone at a cartoon studio was slipping their fetish in. I'm sure a large amount of it is, but unlike foot and fart smelling or things in that category, it isn't always the case.

Yeah, and no wonder! A lot of cartoons are for kids, seeing adult charicters as kids can be a plus for relatablity (ex. Spongebob from spongebob is a very childish adult, for whatever reason you may accredit that to) or even to make fun of a common issue (annoying babies is a big one, a lot of older kids with younger siblings could relate to it) as well as a lot of childish adults (for whatever reason it may be) watch cartoons!

Personally I wish it was more popular in fantasy young adult fiction :3 the only charicter I've stumbled upon like that is Nyx from fire emblem fates, who ~~ was cursed to be a kid forever because she was causing a lot of immature havoc with her spells and magic and stuff. However I don't really like her portrayal of the topic because she's very dysphoric about her percived age and upset with the curse, which makes me feel bad for her, and its a bit... obvious she's not trapped as a kid for actual story reasons but instead as an excuse to get to marry someone with a kids body... so..... idk if she really counts.

I'm just a big fan of fantasy universes. Wish they used this more. When will among us fire emblem babies be born transformed. They're so traumatized and high strung plz they need a break

Speaking of, because now I'm talking about FE, I really heavily headcanon about dragons in the fire emblem universes and I like thinking about the nohrian royals and their dragon-ness, I like go imagine they all have different limits, but all regress back to dragon behavior sometimes. Leo and corrin are really quick to regress, Camilla is somewhere in the middle and Xander is stubborn in that sense. I like thinking of them all snuggling in a pile half transformed, or like, Leo being in the middle of talking and just stopping to watch a rat in the other room, totally sidetracked and in a different mindset now XD.

I also like thinking about Garon before his curse made him cray cray evil. Oh big dragon papa.... I think he probably had to fight the urge to pick them up by the scruff of their necks even after his kids had grown up (not counting elise of course :[ he didn't get to hardly even meet her) .

The Great Dizi List, Part 3b (The Alperen Dizis)

Okay, so allow me to start by saying that I've finished Son Yaz, and as as result I may have fallen the tiniest bit in love with Alperen Duymaz and thus have embarked on the journey of watching all his dizis. He has this sad, earnest puppy vibe combined with an incredible amount of BDE in all his roles, plus he's just so damn pretty. Anyway. And by all I mean just two others bc I like him beardy and his teen one is a little young for me.

Son Yaz

This one will actually get its own post, because it deserves its own post. Tbqh it deserves sonnets written to its beauty, bc this is one of those shows that I watched all the way through in like, 3 days, and then immediately wanted to go back and watch again. It was that good. The main quartet are a delight, and honestly I haven't loved a ship like AkMur in far too long. (okay technically Edser but that ended in disaster and in retrospect I kind of think they were awful and I'm not even really sure what I loved about them tbh they kind of sucked.) They are one of those ships you can believe in, where you know they are going to work out no matter what and you want them to. The way they are together--they make my heart happy.

This show I actually started to watch back in September of last year, when I had just started watching Turkish dizis. Back then I was entirely on my own and I got about 40 min in and then freaked out. I read some reviews, freaked out some more and bailed. But I'm a dizi pro now, and with this being a combined Alperen AND Ayça dizi I basically couldn't resist. It helped that it was only 10 episodes and that meant it couldn't get too crazy. Both Alperen and Ayça were amazing, of course, and they are just so damn beautiful together. Their chemistry was electric and since they spent about 90% of this dizi crying at each other (and let me tell you that these two may be the best dizi criers I've seen) it was incredibly well done. They are so pretty when they cry. There is one story line which didn't make a whole ton of sense and kind of pissed me off, but honestly it gets so little screen time as to render it easy to dismiss or headcanon. (Hint: It should have been a hysterical pregnancy). But the acting was great, the ending was intensely satisfying, and honestly if you want to watch Alperen with curls and turtlenecks and peacoats (his curls, btw, may or may not have caused a few minor breakdownsif they give Akgun curls I won't make it) cry at Ayça beautifully while she cries beautifully back for 20 hours or so, then I highly recommend.

Okay, so I've watched several mafia/crime dizis. They're probably my favorite kind tbh. Usually they feature super smart main characters who are always a step ahead (you think they are in trouble but they always had a plan) and a bad guy with infuriating but understandable motives who usually lives too long, and at least one minor henchman guy who gets what he deserves. And usually our mains live happily ever after. Usually.

This show was not that. I should preface this by saying that my brand of humor is what you might call "dark"--I laughed more at the Americans than I ever have a comedy, lets put it that way. Anyway, this show featured 4 of the stupidest people ever to exist in a tv show, and I do mean that, and was also technically I guess kind of horrible what with the death and killing but tbh I laughed a lot. Now, I should say that the cast was excellent, and the acting was excellent and I loved every single one of those stupid idiots. But they were, in fact, extraordinarily stupid. These people got kidnapped like, and I'm not joking, at least once an episode. Sometimes twice. There actually came a point where they were getting kidnapped from their kidnappers by other kidnappers. And then literally every episode they'd get saved (and by they I mean the women, the two dudes never got kidnapped really) and then literally like, go right back to life as normal. Neither dude ever made sure their respective girlfriend got back in the house at night, neither girl ever believed in calling their respective boyfriend to, idk, buddy walk anywhere, they never checked before opening doors, they drove away without looking, got in cars without looking. It may sound like I'm exaggerating but I swear I'm not. And mind you, this dizi started with the main characters family getting blown up, and the other one being kidnapped and forced to shoot her husband in the face to save her kidnapped daughter. Spoilers I guess. So you'd think they'd be a little cautious but nope. Not even a little. Just out there, living their lives. The main villain of the first half of the dizi actually got redeemed and tbh by the final episode I was rooting for him to live his best life an co-parent with Kadir. At least he had a reasonable motivation, and he also did try and make up for the atrocities he committed. And really, what's a little murder now and again. The other bad guy's motivation was, and I swear this is true, "my son hates me for blowing up his family bc I didn't know it was his family, so bc he hates me I'm going to kill the rest of his family." That was literally it. The thing is, while the constant dying and torture would make you say "Djem, wtf is wrong with you, how did you get glee out of this show?" let me tell you that by the 945th kidnapping, you too will be like "can't even feel sorry for you really" and the just settle into this state of low level amusement and glee. Like, literally 90% of these kidnappings and deaths could have been prevented by like, idk, actually having police protection, or staying inside the house, or not opening the door for strangers, or watching to make sure the love of your life got inside safely, or not walking alone at night, or not GOING TO THE PARK TWO DAYS AFTER YOUR BESTIE WAS KIDNAPPED AND HAD A BOMB STRAPPED TO HER. So like, I mean, not to victim blame. But. Let's say by the end, while I loved the fuck outta the mains, I honestly was more emotional over Veli. Bc they were just so fucking stupid. Like, kidnapped, from a kidnapper. You really can't make it up. They make Akgun and Soner look like geniuses. And that's saying something. Anyway it was great and if you ff through most of the boring shit, I highly recommend. The acting is superb, the foursome is hilarious, and tbh Veli is a great villain that I loved. It was the stupidest dizi I've seen (that's a lie I watched parts of two Ayşe dizis) but tbh it was enjoyable as hell, so that's saying something I guess.

Exactly! Crestoria is not the only game they don't really keep tabs with. A while ago i played a saint seiya game by them and it had many many issues. If you cannot have multiple games with quality than please don't. Is bad for us and the employees, those poor people must be going crazy :c

At first I liked kasque, quite different than what I would expect from a goddess, but I ended disliking her...

I feel kinda bad for aegis just being a punching bag for jokes and Yuna just being there to look pretty, they have a lot of potential for the story. Like you said Yuna had a great point and a good reflection moment but whatever eh? Aegis too, I felt his story like a punch on the gut because I tend to be like him and the queen, but again, whatever...

I do the arena for the free stuff too! I am not competitive at all XD

yeah i honestly...ugh. i have just a lot of issues w bamco in general but i also Do Not want them to pay attention to me jic they tell me to stop making memes or something stupid like that— like genuinely instead of making the game more functional or adding like...idk. any story or shit that makes Sense they just added things like the transcendence board which is just. for ppl who already maxed out their ascension boards?? after like 6 months??? Y'ALL... ik for a while too the phantom tower was Waaayyy too difficult but i think they nerfed it back to normal considering i can now clear thru level 40 at least :/ but overall the game is just. geared towards ppl who drop fucktons of cash on it. if you look at the ppl in the top 3 in arena rn? you KNOW they've spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on this game. what the fuck.

also minor gripes are just...they don't add very many new units anyway, compared to like even asteria, and i get that there's effort for the whole models or w/e but...i mean if rays can do it... and i don't mean that in the rate that banners are released, bc those are...kind of annoyingly often as of late (looking @ all the crestoria cast alts) but the fact they're only for 1 or 2 charas who are Only ssrs, and it genuinely makes r and sr stones and sr charas just...obsolete and useless imo? like i genuinely have EVERY sr AND r full awakened/ascended which. is probs partly due to the drop rates being Absolute Garbage, but thank god they implemented a pity system, right? ...right? [tired sigh] i've saved enough for julius who has been in crestoria for 228 days, bamco, fucking release h—

i also want to add that i've contacted support MULTIPLE times abt issues w the game and they have legit just told me "hm sucks have u tried playing the game w all other apps closed" like yes, bamco, but that's not the problem??

more revenge of belial brainrot bc i can’t stop thinking abt my favorite supporting cast (movie spoilers below):

nao specializes in conflict resolution. more specifically, he shouts at them until they come out and have a civil conversation with each other bc they’re embarrassed to have a kid shouting at them to do the right thing. he’s chaotic enough to try this out once and likes making friends enough to continue doing this bc he’s watching people become friends again

emeraldo planet, nao’s planet, the land of mirrors, and the fire pirates all become good friends after that. rebuilding crews made frrom a mix of every group. emerana invites nao and ran over for tea and nao tells her about his conflict resolution strategy. she thinks it’s funny and if she ever has conflicts between her people she introduces them to nao

speaking of emerana, i bet everyone from that planet is descended from rocks who saw a person one day and wanted to live like that person. either that or everyone is born directly from the molten emerald core of the planet, and parents are the people who raised you. i don’t know which headcanon is cooler but i like them both. maybe the first one is the creation myth but the second is how society actually functions. funerals i picture like parties in spaceships except the mourned gets to skydive directly into a volcano to rejoin the molten rocks at the planet’s core.

if emerana had gotten captured i foresee her having some kind of comet lucifer ending tragic fate, to be used as an infinite power source until she goes into a coma/dies. and i fucking hated that ending but it was a good cautionary tale against the crimes of capitalism against the environment.

gul (pirate bro with a gun) is actually the “normal” pirate captain. having guns is traditional for fire captains, but because the three of them tied during their exam, the crew decided three is better than one and had them all be captains. so when gal and gil decided they wanted to use sworsd to fight, gul as the gun-user was supportive and the rest of the avant-garde’s crew quickly accepted this as well, bringing swords of their own to show support. about half of their crew use swords ironically/main cannons, and half of them love swords and swordfighting

glen fire got picked up by the captain bros as a toddler, and got a lot of his morals from them. luckily they’re the pirates of flames, so they didn’t mind being on fire most of the time. gil and gul taught him to fight with staffs despite the wooden ones being flammable. the entire crew helped him learn to fight and he always respected the strong bc that’s the pirate way.

d&d losers club headcanons

- it switches between bev, ben, and mike usually dming bc honestly their voices are easier to listen to for 5 (and up) hours and they ESPECIALLY make the best adventures!

- they are the type to spend at least 7 hours on character creation, some of them acting all too well their part and getting far too into it (when the game hasn’t even started yet).

- god someone!!! always brings fucking snacks!!! the players handbook and manuals all belong to stan and if someone ends up touching a book with their salt covered fingers he will (has) scream(ed)

SPECIFIC LOSERS!

- my boy, big bill, tends to main as a paladin- keeping true to the lawful good alignment. he’s a bit boring with his race, but he likes to stick with a half elf, and of course he starts with a horse (who he affectionately names silver) and a long sword. he’s a player who is more so playing for the fun of rping and acting with his buds! he also likes helping build the story, and he is the loser who ends up drawing all the others characters in the corners of his school notebooks and character sheet.

- BEN. a dm and also practical when it comes to character creation. he usually loses the fight and is unable to pry bard from one of the other losers greasy hands, so instead he usually is a human barbarian (they all scoff collectively when he announces he’s a human- but hey, no disadvantages besides the usual chide). he likes to get the most cost effective weapon he can at first, and is a frequent user of barbarian rage whenever he can manage (especially when beverly is placed in front of the party). he gives long poetic descriptions of his character, and is one of the people who likes to play for the story and also because he likes to get things done- which they only manage to really do every other time. also, he’s chaotic good! a true good hearted barbarian boy ben.

- stan. stan, the man. that boy is a elf and a wizard, a damn determined one at that. his main school of magic is illusion, but he also likes to switch between that and conjuration for his magic user!!!! he likes to dick around with the other losers, but in character, and will cast figment spells frequently to pit the party characters against each other, or have them pick fights with merchants. chaotic neutral, and carries a club even with the bad melee stats (because ‘it’s just like a short, thick baseball bat, right?’). he plays the game to win, definitely, and he is a treasure hoarder, and somehow INCREDIBLY lucky when it comes to looting/perception checks (especially when mike is dming, but no one really says anything about it). also! the party meets up at his house, usually, if not mike’s.

- okay, mike is my son and his main is Precious. he is a druid gnome, usually, when he isn’t dming! he likes to get a big ass dire rat, and he will give his character the most ridiculous name ever but he will say it, wholly, with a completely straight face. “yes, sorry, footcheese mcsmegmaseeds will use melee this round.” all the other losers usually shorten it, because if they don’t, they would bust out laughing every time. he uses a wooden club (druids can’t use metal, and he always ends up giving all his cool stuff he finds to his friends anyway!), with his alignment being usually true neutral! he and bill are always, somehow, promoted to leader status in the party even if they don’t do anything to gain it? and mike is just looking to have a good time, anyway! he also likes to win- and is a little disappointed when richie ends up ruining a good roll for him or any of the others. but! as long as everyone else is having a good time, he knows that he will too. he is also a gold hoarder, and is reluctant to buy any new weapon when he already has a big ass rat by his side anyway.

- the boy who usually snatches bard away from ben? oh, that’s richie, and god does he get into it. along side it he is also usually chaotic neutral and a dwarf, dropping his voice down to be very hardy and deep when he manages to slip in a ballad. yes, he actually sings, and he will even occasionally bring a kazoo- just about making any kind of noise for backup. his voices are loud and obnoxious the whole time, and he’s the one who never stops fucking around! in fact, that’s the main reason he plays- because he likes to mess around with the other losers, ruining their ambushes and perfectly played out speech attempts, shaking the table on a roll. he argues the game isn’t fun if it’s completely perfect, and they all secretly agree with him (after they all collectively knock him hard out of his chair).

- BEV. y’all all know beverly is the ranger when she isn’t dming. bev’s a ranger and a half orc- and for the sake of the party, she usually picks lawful neutral (but she would love to be chaotic evil, if she knew bill wasn’t going to be a paladin). every other turn she tries to rapid shoot her enemies (if she has the ability), and also acts as a rogue if the party doesn’t have one! she likes to jokingly take insignificant things from the enemies, and sometimes the dms (ben especially) will make them have monumental importance later if they decide to continue that one campaign. she likes to play to goof, and also enjoy spending time with the boys. when she dms, she makes the best noises out of the three.

- eddie. god. they all laugh when he picks to be a halfling (”of course!”) but he also ends up being their cleric, and pissing off the cleric is like playing with fire. he’s lawful good- most halflings are, but he has a problem of skittering from his alignment more so than the other losers. he likes to play to win, and if there is a path decision that needs to be made eddies opinion is always top priority! even though with everything else he is incredibly, incredibly unlucky. it’s at the point where richie will just leave the table completely still and even clamp a hand over his own mouth when it’s eddies turn to roll. eddies favorite spell is the sleep spell, but he will usually try and use melee in between spells and heals if he can get in close enough. ALSO. he brings the snacks (of course he does), and if richie kazoos eddie will hand whistle in the background out of sync with him during a particularly intense battle.

Hotaru (first draft is finished)

- Abt two men that are linked through a surgery called “synchronisation”, which basically connects their minds and bodies, so they are forced to work as a team. Ea is an ex-soldier and Cain was a hacker, but due to the fact that they can’t stand each other, they also didn’t share their pasts with each other. To pay someone to unlink them, they become bounty hunters and kidnap the girl Ai and her robot Subaru, which is one of the old military robots, called Hotarus (high technologised, operating, transforming, artificial intelligence, ranger units). They are connected to a human ranger and can transform into what the ranger wants them to transform into.

The Hotaru headquarters exploded 10 years ago and since then the Hotarus are super rare on the black market.

The two men plan on selling both the girl and her robot and let’s just say it all doesn’t work out that well.

To stop global warming some scientists basically caused a new ice age. On the long run this might be very effective but the former countries, now sectors, are hit by strong ice storms, called snow white. To stay safe huge bunkers, the Safe Cities, were built and the local fauna and flora were stored in Arks, to preserve them.

Usually an alarm sounds before all citizens are brought into the SCs, but this time Reese and her best friend Yuki dont manage to get to the vehicles on time and are left behind. They seek shelter in a private bunker outside of town that Yuki found out about recently. Suddenly a group of boys their age knocks on the door, because they were also left behind and followed the girls.

Al, the brothers Eli and Isaac, Gil and Henry become the new bunker-mates and the group has to survive one year in the bunker, until the storm is over.

The script for a shortfilm i once made with my friends. A school class has a plane crash and only a few students survive, they all embody a different character archetype (the sunshine, the soziopath, the smart one etc.) They try to survive and are put through weird psychological mind experiments like the trolley problem.

To be honest, the concept had and still has a lot of potential and we just hadn’t the opportunities to rly set it the way we anticipated. The shooting day was super fun, though! Still laughing about the outtakes

A story Idea i still like but probably wont write like this because of copyright problems. Its basically a giant Crossover.

Its abt people who have an Astral( mostly a literature figure) they embody when they are dreaming. Their body stays in bed and is vulnerable but the Astral can basivally run around and has special powers. If the Astral dies, the person wakes up but i think when the body dies the person dies too? idk.

The Protagonist embodies Alice and there are also the White Rabbit, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell usw.

There was also some kind of conflict? I dont remember.

If i would ever rewrite it the Astrals would be embodiments of the Zodiac signs.

i used to love scorpion but it's become mediocre since the second half of season 2 bc all they've done is bait waige. tbh, it's not a good ship and maybe i'm biased bc i've headcanoned walter as aromantic (which would've worked much better in terms of his character since the show seems to be telling ppl with higher IQ that to find a place they belong they have to develop EQ to "evolve" when as a society, we should be accepting them and not making them fit in with us)

No offense anon, but…  Is there a question in this?  It’s unclear exactly what you’d like to discuss or know from me.  But I chose to take my time with this response in order to open a discussion within the fandom.  This isn’t a rant.  Lol!

I disagree with the notion that the show is telling its audience that high IQ, low EQ individuals have to develop EQ to evolve or fit into society.  This insinuates that the geniuses sacrifice their intellect in order to become less socially inept.  This is simply not the case.  One of the show’s core messages is to communicate the benefits of emotional intelligence in relation to one’s goals to share that intellect with the masses - learning to adapt without sacrificing identity.  The message is continuously addressed with Walter O’Brien because he is the genius with the lowest EQ, the creator of Scorpion, and uses his business as a hub for like-minded individuals with various skill sets.  

What makes us different from animals as humans is cognition - the ability to reflect on our thoughts and experiences and act on them to change ourselves and our environments.  Walter is not efficient at processing emotion to label it properly, meaning that he can not identify behaviors to which he can not relate.  This does not mean he can not emote, but the amount of EQ he gains over time is learned.  It does not derive from within.  The same is true of the other geniuses to a lesser extent.  (Elyes Gabel talked about this at the cast’s first SDCC appearance - Walter has an emotional vault that he struggles to access.)  Furthermore, Walter’s environment contributes to how well he can regulate his emotions.  In the show, Walter’s intelligence was fostered as a child through his work for the government.  But his emotional development was only fostered through Megan because she accepted him for his differences unlike his parents.  This is why he was so protective of her medical care and fought hard on an intellectual level to save her.  Since Walter’s emotional development is an arc for the entire series, his character will be written to show his successes and failures in various aspects of his life in relation to his life goals.  

As far as attraction is concerned, Walter could be written as aromantic in relation to his genius.  This would have been a great and intriguing development.  But various moments in the show suggest that Walter, at the least, is romantically attracted to women for now.  Therefore, his emotional intelligence will also have an impact on any romantic relationship he seeks to have given the show’s premise.  If you’ll indulge me, allow me to explain using recent scenarios from the show, present the conundrum that lies within fandom, and how that conundrum is capitalized in order to “bait” fans on Waige under the cut.  It’s long, so don’t say I didn’t warn ya! 😜

Examples from Canon

In episode 2.22 Hard Knox, the team mobilized to help Ralph win his court battle.  Ralph tried to explain his program’s functions to Walter, but he couldn’t understand Ralph’s approach.  Sadly, Walter projected his frustration over a problem he couldn’t solve in that moment onto Ralph.  This led to Ralph walking away feeling defeated and Paige threatening to quit.  When he realized the mistake in his behavior, he approached Ralph and said this, “what upset me is that you were willing to slow down for me to-to let me go down the wrong road, when that would’ve hindered you, because I couldn’t grasp your work.  Never hobble your intelligence for anyone… because if you do that in this garage, imagine what you’ll have to do out there… for humans.  The world needs to catch up to you… because if-if it can, just a little, imagine what a… a beautiful place it could be.”  This example is unique because it reinforces the show’s core message in IQ vs. EQ on the basis of intelligence, not emotion.

In 3.15 Sharknerdo, Walter argued with the client over the way he stated the service fee instead of accepting the fact that the client was not interested in learning the correct way to communicate $109,000.  This cost the team their job and dismantled the weeks of work Paige did to secure that contract.  Paige was rightfully frustrated because Walter couldn’t get like Elsa and let it go. 😂  Plus, it’s even more frustrating that Walter secured a new job on contingency, where payment is only guaranteed upon completion of services.  This is bad for Walter despite the fact that Paige is the liaison for several reasons: 1) he talked with the client in her absence, 2) he lost a job with a secured fee and replaced it with a less secure one (that’s not good business when you have employees to pay), and 3) he is the boss of Scorpion who makes the final decisions.  In Paige’s absence, he is the next point of contact for independent jobs (those not issued through Homeland Security).  This is the statute of limitations when it comes to his goals for Scorpion.  He has to acquire skill sets to make him more efficient at communicating with average/high EQ, non-geniuses if he wants to diversify his clientele to do more good in the world.  In other words, he has to learn and apply approaches on an EQ level to appeal to normals in order to get them to his level or create an equal playing field.  Another great example of this can be found in his interaction with the foreman in 3.14 The Hole Truth after his talk with Happy.  I apply the same tactic as a researcher.  I have to know my audience and how to address them in order to communicate my findings and spark interest.  If I do not, I limit my reach and open doors to miscommunication and misunderstanding.  

Also take into consideration instances where Walter has lied about facts in order to achieve the greater good.  Episode 2.04 Robots is a great example.  What’s also interesting about this episode and others in which this has happened is that Walter doubts the scope of his own emotional intelligence.  The same is seen with Happy Quinn whose EQ is closer to Walter’s.  If you have read any of my reviews, I talk about this doubt factor several times.  Walter and Happy have demonstrated emotional mastery in both their work and personal lives.  Their main issue is consistency outside the limitations their logical brains impose on their emotional functionality.  Yet overall, they improve each season.

This show is loosely-based on the real Walter O’ Brien, who is an executive producer.  If you ask him to choose between IQ and EQ, he will tell you, EQ over IQ, from his own personal experiences which has been infused widely throughout this show.  You can read that interview HERE and learn what he did to create the show.  It’s very enlightening!

Fandom Realities

Here’s the conundrum that stems from fandom.  (If you read the interview, then you already got a sense of what I am about to say.)  Scorpion is an action dramedy in two parts - personal stuff and mission stuff.  And these two elements are interchanged in every episode.  However, the majority of fan commentary on the show is about the romances first, the other personal storylines second, and the missions last.  This means the greatest pull, as far as spoilers and other marketing strategies are concerned, is information on the ships whether it’s through social media, press releases, or cast interviews.  The majority of fans don’t get excited over the missions (or else that would be reflected in fandom convo and creations).  Scorpion covers some real projects like the Chernobyl dome and the Svalbard Doomsday Vault (both of which are really cool btw).  And I am curious if an upcoming episode will take a note from a docu-drama on Mars that debuted on National Geographic.  Anyways, Waige is not canon and yet Waige-centric episodes receive behind-the-scenes exclusives on pop culture news sites like Entertainment Online.  Katherine McPhee and Elyes Gabel are sent out on press to talk about them.  You do not see similar treatment with the other ships because Waige is the main ship of the show.  All others are side ships, regardless how much exposure they get.  Quintis is highlighted in the storyline because the relationship is between two main characters, who are both high IQ, low EQ individuals, as opposed to Callie (RIP 💀) which is between a main and a guest, both of whom have average/high EQ.  

The showrunners, writers, cast have alluded and established in many ways that Waige is an endgame, slow burn otp.  The mystery lies in WHEN this will happen.  It would be stupid for them to reveal that information.  But they use episodes to answer that question for the fans.  As fans, we can choose to trust what is there to put our expectations in check or fall for the bait!  Besides, we get more receipts the more the writers use more than one episode to foreshadow.  If we don’t like what we see after some time, we have to determine what is the breaking point and move on or devise a new plan to indulge the content (e.g., skip episodes, binge later).  We also have to take into consideration that some decisions are in the hands of network execs.  At the end of the day, it makes no sense to engage in endless emotional masochism over something we no longer enjoy.  It’s silly!  But I digress.  If you want to know more about my theories on Waige, feel free to go to my page, type “the Waige flip” in the search engine, and read all about it.  As someone who ships Waige, I don’t have any questions on them until season 4, episode 12/13.

I will not argue whether Waige is a good ship or not because it’s not my place to police opinion.  What I will say is that Waige is an intriguing pairing because it is a relationship between a low EQ individual and a high EQ individual - a genius and a normal.  (Btw, high IQ, high EQ individuals exist - it’s a function of nature vs. nurture.  But that’s a topic for a different day!).  Melvester had the same dynamic, but the EQ gap between Megan and Sly was much less than that between Walter and Paige.  For this reason, Waige will always face unique challenges.  Like I said at the beginning of all this, Walter’s emotional development is a series arc and his triumphs and failures will extend to his personal life.  But one thing this show does well is communicate understanding in the team’s decisions, both geniuses and non-geniuses, whether you agree with their stances or not.  That’s necessary given the show’s premises!

How long have you been playing? Since last April I think. I started when the first story event was going on and had time only for Masamune’s event *sob*. I wish it would come again so I’d get to play all of the routes.

Which routes have you played? Devine endings from Nobu, Saizo, Masamune, Kojuro, Hideyoshi, Ieyasu, Mitsunari, Kenshin and Shingen.

Which route did you play first? Masamune

Who are you playing next? I was thinking I’d play Toshiie, but I’m still not 100% sure. I have played about half of his route before (and then Mitsuntsun got released and I abandoned him), but I was pretty disturbed (and still am) by what he did.

Which of the samurai is your favorite? Saizo. I love him. He tries to be all “I’m a child of the moonlight and shadows” and then he’s just really adorable. 

Who comes next on the list? Mitsunari, Masamune, Kenshin, Shigezane, Keiji. I can’t decide.

Who has grown on you? Nobu. I really disliked him on his main story. The whole time I was like nope, nope, nope. But then he’s really adorable in his event stories (why are you pulling me to the dark side ;A; ). 

Which of the samurai is your least favorite? Mitsuhide. I have nothing against him, he just seems so boring.

Which route has the best MC? I like Kojuro’s and Nobu’s MC the most. They seem strong and have their own opinions and don’t act like doormats.

Which route surprised you the most? I think Kenshin’s. I wasn’t expecting anything special and then I got all the cute retainers and an eternal love for a long haired dork.

Which route was the most disappointing? I was disappointed to Nobu’s route. There were lots of drama, but I never got why (nor when) MC fell in love with Nobu. All he ever did was act horribly towards her and constantly disregard her consent.

Which region’s supporting cast is your favorite? Kai. Mostly bc Sasuke is super adorable (and also bc Yukkins sex ed. lessons).

Which friendship is your favorite? Saizo/Yukimura and the Date trio. I can’t decide between the two.

Which friendship is your least favorite? Nobu/Mitsuhide. I get they trust each other professionally, but other than that I think their friendship is kind of thin.

Which reusable NPC is your favorite? The kid who usually gets a name. The one with a ponytail. He is adorable, especially when angry and smiling.

Which reusable NPC is your least favorite? The tall skinny guy, who is hunched over a bit.

Which villain is your favorite? Ieyasu! I love him as a villain. He’s so adorable and clearly enjoys his villainous role.

Which villain is your least favorite? Mr. cute recycled spirite.

Which event has been your favorite? I think every event has had good and not so good stories. If I have to pick one favourite event story it’s the one where Keiji visited Kai.

Which event were you most underwhelmed with? I don’t remember specific events but I’m not fond of miscommunication as a base for a conflict. Adults should be capable of talking about their insecurities and other stuff to their romantic partners bc problems would just SOLVE THEMSELVES IF YOU TALKED TO YOUR S/O LIKE A NORMAL PERSON. I’m so glad there haven’t been any of those “I don’t know if he likes me or not, omg!” event stories for a while either. Before they finally got to have sex there were several event stories where those were major plot points and it felt like their relationship wasn’t going anywhere.

What do you think the game could improve on? MC could be more of her own person and more strong willed. Also less stupid (like at the end of Shingen’s route I almost screamed at my tablet on how incredibly stupidly the mc was behaving). Also more female characters and more frequent use of the ones that we have (most routes wouldn’t pass the Bechdel test). Like where is Oichi in Nobu’s events? I want to see more of her! (I also want to date her, bc her cooking skills match my own.)

The game also needs to treat abuse as abuse. Somehow all the bad things done to mc by the lords are okay because of a “tragic back story” and the trauma is only acknowledged when she is attacked by “bad guys”. If it’s one of the lords it’s used mainly as a way to advance their storyline, ignoring the MC. IMO she also forgives the abuse towards her way too easily.

What do you like about the game? I love that we get new events regularly. I like most of the stories even tho there is always room for improvement.

Do you write fics/headcanons for SLBP? I write fanfics and occasional headcanons.

Do you draw art for SLBP? No.

I mostly ship him with Tsurara, Zen, and Itaku (not all at once, though I do fully approve of poly ships because yes), but I’m also down with Yura, Kana (if handled well), Kubinashi (LOOK IT JUST KEEPS POPPING UP IN MY HEAD AND IDK WHY), Shōei (your fault), Tamazuki (DEFINITELY YOUR FAULT not in a bad way I mean), Rinko (because she’s cute and deserves ships and hugs), and probably more if the fanfic writers bring their A game. :3 I am a proud multishipper.

general opinions: MY PRECIOUS SON. I love him so much and he deserves like a thousand years of happiness. I also maintain that he is a trans boy, both in my beautiful son AU and just as a straight-up headcanon for the main series. I just. Ugh. I love him so much. He is so good.

NURA RIHAN

general opinions: I’d really love to see more of him, and I’m super looking forward to writing him in ‘his father’s son’! :D

general opinions: On the one hand, I think he’s a really interesting character (and I love that he’s a badass old guy without being the ‘buff old man is the strongest ever’ trope), but on the other I’m really not fond of some of the stuff he does and says, so it’s hard to say. But, like with most characters in this series, I think he’s worth exploring deeper.

GYŪKI

ship with: I... don’t, actually. I mostly just see him as the like, chill single dad of his clan.

general opinions: Looks like he could kill you, could definitely kill you, but also kind of a dad. Or uncle. I really kinda like him.

KIYOTSUGU

ship with: Fuguruma Yōbi (just because imagine how much they would have to talk about oh my god), or perhaps someone else not in the story. (And lowkey either Jirō or Kana, but that would have to be an AU bc it definitely doesn’t really mesh in canon).

friendship them with: The Kiyojūji Paranormal Patrol! Also Aotabō, haha. I loved him riding around on the back of Ao’s bike, and I can just imagine that becoming just a *thing* for them as he grows up. Yup, new headcanon: Kiyotsugu and Aotaboō become Bros™.

general opinions: SUCH GREAT CHARACTER GROWTH. I love his character arc, because he starts out just a little casually dislikable and then gradually becomes someone who’s genuinely doing his best to help and someone Rikuo can really rely on and it just makes me so happy.

ABE NO YOSHIHIRA

general opinions: I actually used to like him a lot more than I do now (what can I say, I have a thing for cool dudes with long pretty hair), but I still think he’s an interesting character. It would be cool to know more of what it was like for him settling into the Nura clan after he left the Hyaku Monogatari.

AOTABŌ

ship with: Honestly? Rikuo & Tsurara together, as a poly triad. (I’m a bit of a sucker for the tol-smol-smoll relationship dynamic, and let’s be real no matter how grown up his night form gets Rikuo is still a smol).

friendship them with: Same as above, but with Zen as well (of course), and actually I kinda see him getting along well with some of the Tōno yōkai for some reason (mostly Awashima and Amezō).

general opinions: I am so fond of him. I really want to know more about his childhood, and his human mother, and just what it was like for him growing up and stuff. Does he hang out in the human world and have human friends? Does he bump his head on doorframes all the time? I have so many questions for my precious tol son.

KEIKAIN RYŪJI

general opinions: Looks like a cinnamon roll but could and would definitely kill you. Not really a character I’m fond of, but I kinda like him nonetheless and would like to see more written about him (and the other Abe/Gokadoin folks as well).
