an easy way to give yourself whiplash is to go from reading lucas on the line, which really pulls you into the story and shows you what it would be like to be a young black nerd growing up in 80s hawkins, in & then go back to the show where you Know he's a black boy in 80s hawkins, in and you do see him get called a racist name in s1 and targeted by billy in s2, but other than that it's almost like racism doesn't really exist or at least not as much as it would've in a real life 80s small midwestern town and it's not something tht rly affects lucas bc the sympathetic focus is ofc on his white aggressor instead
