If you don’t mind me asking, what does outgrowing someone mean to you?

it's just when your values or priorities or overall person stops aligning w theirs i think. i used to contextualize outgrowing people as a dramatic falling out!! i hate their guts!! they did me dirty!! but w growing up came the revelation that that's hardly ever the case. most of my experiences outgrowing people have been a slow burn. each of us takes a step back, one bit at a time, and then it suddenly hits that the differences have grown far too wide to reconcile. it's almost never just this cataclysmic moment where they're this monumentally shitty caricature of a person.

and sometimes it's just you taking that step back, while they remain in place. sometimes it's just them, and you feel abandoned and stuck. but i stopped demonizing people who just naturally drift away from me--and i also stopped feeling guilty for drifting away from people. i think this is a major thing i've struggled w after reconnecting w a close friend: the realization that she's not a bad person, that she's been going to therapy and addressing her issues, that she's far kinder and more patient and more understanding now... but that maybe she's still not for me and that is okay. at the end of the day it really does come down to how that person makes you feel.

i used to suppress my gut feeling & intuition & just force myself to dwell around people who felt like they were sapping me of air rather than imbuing my life in any way. bc i didn't wanna hurt their feelings. bc they're not a bad person. bc they didn't do anything wrong. but what about what i wanted? so long as you're not a jerk about communicating these feelings, i think it's valid to acknowledge you've outgrown someone--whether it bc bc they changed, whether it be bc you changed, or whether it be bc you woke up one day and just started feeling differently. you're not wrong in that, and neither is anyone in your life who may feel that way about you in the future.

I've spent most of the morning trying to figure out how to respond to this message, because I genuinely always try to assume that all asks are sent with the best intentions, but to be honest, I'm having a really hard time seeing this as anything but a bad faith reading of the blog

as I've mentioned many times, I run this blog entirely for fun and because people enjoy it. I've always intended it as a place for joy and whimsy where people can play pretend and imagine themselves wearing lovely garments from the past

if you read the notes of the polls and many of the asks that have been sent to the blog, I think you'll find there's actually a great diversity of opinion on garments from every era. many people have mentioned that the blog has even given them a better sense of the trajectory of historical fashion and has helped them improve their skills in dating garments

even if the majority of people almost always do pick the garment that is most resonant with modern sensibilities (which (1) I'm not totally convinced of, and (2) which is rather a subjective judgement anyway), the real goal here is that people have fun and get to enter an imaginative headspace where they can picture themselves wearing the various garments

there is definitely space for a conversation about what historical accuracy actually *means* and where we do and don't see it in media and why that might be the case, but to be honest I have a very hard time seeing how my little for-fun blog has any relevance to or influence over larger cultural tendencies in major media. if anything, people's responses to the polls are an outgrowth of opinions and ideas about historical fashion that are already extant in the cultural space, not something formed independently by the existence of the blog or by the experience of participating in the polls

cosigning @piratehunted on the modern au car choices: zoro w a beat up jeep that everyone suspects he lived in for an indeterminate period of time, and sanji with an old but impeccably well preserved and well loved classic car courtesy of zeff. yes it takes an insane amount of upkeep and he's considering stockpiling replacement parts bc they are probably 6 months away from being taken entirely out of production, but its zeffs baby and sanji will die before he lets her fall into disrepair

okok, hear me out on this rottmnt leo x reader au idea guys i swear:

Rottmnt separated au where Leo (named Kappa) was raised as the next battle nexus champion n owner (in case anything happens to big mama) by big mama and he had to fight (literally and figuratively) for familial affection and peace his whole life. Then theres Reader who was abandoned by her parents the moment they found out about her ability to see into the future via dreams (which isnt as straightforward as it sounds- her visions span across multiple alternate timelines and they vary in time making it hard to understand and navigate), so they gave their small child to big mama (human version) and lil yn is forced to become a servant bc her powers are ultimately useless.

small yn is basically forced by the other employees to serve Leo bc none of em wanted to. Yn is scared and shy at first but then they kinda become friends (She even names him Leonardo bc its a very characteristic throughout her dreams and she thought it suit him) eventhough he has to hide it in public and pretend he doesnt gaf about the human because the other yokai would make fun of him and call him weak n pick on them. They basically grow up side by side, developing extreme loyalty to each other.

He's prissy and picky and an arrogant brat and hes possessive and caring and would protect yn with his entire being. He had to fight Big Mama for her to stay and not get kicked on the streets, making Big Mama send Leo on field missions as a punishment, making him take Yn with him, purposefully making her dead weight, but he always came out on top.

throughout the years Yn became very introverted and showed her true self only to leo bc that was her one and only safe place. They go on outings in the hidden city and run from the bellboys tryna catch them when BM finds out they snuck out.

The other turtles are all scattered.

Donatello is with Draxum, YN and Leo being the only ones that even call him Donatello. (Drax calls him Purple bc he's horrendous with names). He used to be a full on turtle mutant but because of Draxum training him until he was drained n tired asf there was a lab accident, making him half cyborg. His shell is now replaced with a deadly metal 'shell', one of his eyes is artificial, and eventhough he's trained in multiple weapons, he prefers using technology and working on war weapons making Big Mama and Draxum collaborate. Whenever there's a meeting both BM and Draxum would take their sons with them as 'theyre the succesors and should be there for future reference' though Leo thinks Big Mama wants to have a good image and show Draxum off by dangling something that she took from him right in his face. Well, if Leo's going, that automatically means YN is coming with him; he wont let her out of her periphery, wont make snatching his pet away from him easy for Big Mama. They basically met at those meetings, though they usually sent the younger ones elsewhere while the adults spoke of veery important things. Donatello absolutely hated YN at first bc she was human so him n leo almost fought, but YN, being a little familiar with Donnie from her dreams, started asking Donatello questions to appease him, making Donnie tolerate her (theyre working on extending that tolerance to all of humanity). Leo and Donnie's and Yn's relationship is on thin ice, but it is getting better- they visit don when theyre in the hidden city and help him with gathering materials from the overworld bc Purple wasnt allowed lol Loser. (they snuck him out and showed him the wonders of human tech though, once or twice.) Leo got his mystic weapon from Baron Draxum as a gift (eventhough he actually didnt want to give it. Donnie convinced him to do so because Drax had a fight with Big Mama and 'giving a gift to her son would show your utmost apologies and mend your business partnership') a way to get back into good graces w Big Mama and Draxum. Just business.

Raph (or Beast) is with the Foot Clan. He was raised very lovingly (bc they were prepping him for the shredder armor), and reveres shredder as his god bc while his parents may have 'loved' him, he was at the end of the day, just a tool to help shredder's revival (everyone in the clan thought so about themselves, they were veery cult like). Leo only knows of them bc he spotted them breaking into a mall while he was 'shopping' gifts for YN :3. he found them hilarious so he watched on as they struggled to fit Beast through multiple doors in the mall. The guy was huge, bigger than he was supposed to be. wtf were they feeding him?? Leo ofc records it and shows it to YN and she can deduce the future from her dreams and the way things r going irl and goes like oh shit this is bad lol we're fucked if someone doesnt do anything abt this and leos like will it hurt you? yn: yes. yes leo it will. leo: oh okay dw then yn ill steal it from them hehe. so he trolls the foot clan whenever he can just for funsies (Leo is also slightly insane n arrogant, so being a little shit comes naturally to him). Whilst he was stalking the top execs he comes across a binding ritual for two or more people. He watched and listened as it was explained thru a book. He stole the ritual book and read through it himself, coming up with an idea himself.

He brings the book to YN and tells her he wants to souldbond with her. (their relationship is like: i belong to leo and only leo but we're not dating n vice versa... like kiss alr smh.) A soulbond is an irreversible binding contract between two people, which allows them to communicate their intent just by their thoughts and solidifying their involvement with each other. It can only be broken if one of them dies. Yn agrees and they make the soulbond without any regrets. No one knows about it but Donnie, whose eye had strong mystic receptors iy already. He saw the chains binding the 2 together and gagged the moment he found out what it meant LMAO.

Raphs fighting style are his body and tail only. hes a brute through and through, his older sister is Cass.

Mikey is with Splinter, who felt so guilty of being unable to save mikeys brothers he unintentionally started neglecting Mikey and developed depression. Mikey bless his soul has been doing his best to keep it together and bring his bros together. He doesnt succeed at it very much and only represses his emotions until he cant anymore, and when that happens lets say the city had a few buildings to fix. Mikey stole the Kusari fundo from Draxum, and its his main weapon.

April, who has Mayhem as her pet, is trying to become a journalist, so she's always at the fights, writing stuff down and then publishing them. Her main way of staying safe is Mayhem's portals lol. She's been saved multiple times by Yn begging leo to give her mercy lol. None of the turtles rlly interact w her.

YN is very shy and closed off. She can be very calculative and manipulative if dhe wants to, making her the perfect s/o for leo, who can analyse a situation and come up on top with the best outcome, as well as pull any information out of anyone, violently or not. He needs constant praise. Leo has a short fuse, and Yn is his perfect match, always calming the situation down before it could make leo explode; she knows all his triggers and tells and weaknesses, as does he for her since they yknow, grew up together.

But like it’s a human/modern au and Adam’s with Lilith, and they’ve been married for a while now. Lilith’s always been a little manipulative, but now she’s gotten subtly abusive almost, very demanding and Adam suspects she’s cheating too. One night she straight up just kicks him out of the house for that night saying he can find his own place to sleep because she’s not willing to share a bed with him nor even let him on the couch after a heated argument. He resists heavily, but only gets way too much slack for it there’s no way he can stay with that psychotic bitch admittedly.

He’s obviously really pissed the fuck off, but he ends up walking out late near the suburbs, ending at a nearby park. When he’s there, he finds Lute!! And she’s also alone, just by herself, sitting on a bench seeming really irritated/isolated herself due to her annoying ass roommate vaggie. He’s got nothing better to do so he tries talking her up a bit, and the conversation veers into smth like this:

“Shit, you seem fun. What’s your name?”

“Lute.”

“Lute? Weird name but sick as hell.”

“What are you doing here?” she snapped.

“Oh, so you’re not even gonna ask me my name back?”

She sighed. “What’s your name?”

Or like smth like that and then they explain their issues to each other, mainly adam to lute and while she’s very hesitant of him at first she is admittedly curious as well. And then eventually she’s like, “wait I think I recognize you” and then he’s like “Yeah? With a face like mine I’m hard to miss” or smth like that and she’s like “ur that guy from the band that sometimes plays at the bar I go to” and he’s like “well shit, that’s me. You should come see us more, we fucking rock” and then they just keep yapping til morning getting familiar with each other until adam like passes out, and she has to wake him up.

Back at home, Lilith’s behavior jus keeps getting worse until Adam finds out for good she actually IS cheating when she catches her in bed with Lucifer. The next time Lute shows up to the bar, she sees Adam and tries to catch him after the show, asking him how everything is and he explains what happened over a cig and lowkey? She’s pissed because she gets what it’s like to be betrayed like that then have to live with it bc of how Vaggie constantly acts. Around like a month passes and after some legal proceedings, he gets the rights to the old marital house and lets Lute hang around there sometimes, also letting her crack out on some of the property he was able to get too. You, who were smiling and giggling even though you probably had a 20-page essay due before midnight. You, who looked so happy... just like how he remembered you. Ah, how many centuries ago that was. It seems even he must grow weak to time sometimes.

... And then his eyes travel down to some person calling for you. Who the hell is that? Why are you working with someone besides him? And then he thinks, this scene is probably from before he got to know you. But still...

i find myself hesitating/wanting to curb my criticisms of isat bc i recognize it as a passion project that i share inspirations with; and for what its worth i do think its likeable. i hate to speak negatively of a work thats not only widely well received but also incredibly familiar; this is someone's personal project finally come to life. and i did/still do enjoy the game, i wouldn't be achievement hunting currently otherwise, but i'm trying to tell myself there's still place for criticism, for identifying what failed for me, what could have been done better

bulleted list of some brief points for both my own sake and also because lists are nice to look at

the player is ultimately a non factor in the game's actual story. which isn't really a bad thing, sometimes stories are not about you. as the player, you can't make any meaningful choices that effect the outcome of the story, because there's only one. in general isat is less of an actual Game moreso than it is a "game" for game's sake; it primarily uses its status as a game as a vessel for art choice rather than strategy and puzzle solving. this is a nonproblem for me (my favorite rpgmaker series is hello charlotte of all things) but i did come in with an expectation of branching paths given the conceit is a timeloop. it is marketed as The Timeloop Game. the game incredible enough isn't about that though, rather, its timeloop is metaphor for sif's mental exhaustion and mounting desperation/depression/feeling of being "trapped," and i think in this way the lack of branching paths makes sense, but unfortunately even though i recognize this, the game's highly scripted incredible linear nature still comes across as underwhelming & frustrating in practice

isat's characters are on the surface fun and charming, but theyre almost... too likeable? isat kind of inexplicably has the same tonal atmosphere of fanfic, in both the sense that its cast is already largely pre-established and fixed, and in the sense that its characters lack any real flaws that make them genuinely abrasive; it feels like any and all harsh edges have been sanded down into softer replicas. conflicts are not especially complex and can be easily resolved with a brief conversation or two. i feel like very little room for subtext was left for nuance between their relationships, and it all gets overshadowed by how overly emphatic the game is about its Found Family without the appropriate buildup (......to me at least. this is a very personal subjective opinion. i think you could mount an argument that this is intentional design, since siffrin's internal conflict hinges on his fear that his friends/family aren't actually truly that close with him, i.e. of course the (unreliable) narrative would frame them as such. but i digress. for me personally i found this specific point lacking, but maybe you'll find it masterfully executed. who knows. tis the beauty of art)

for all that the game wants to revel in its darker themes of existentialism, depression, and suicide, i found it to be incredibly hesitant of digging into the ugly parts of the aforementioned topics. even the more grisly scenes like siffrin's suicides or bonnie's death are censored or skirted around so that we don't have to think too deeply on the violence of it or what they entail; i think this is partly because the dev was self conscious about making these scenes exploitative/masturbatory, which i can sympathize with, but it does feel weird when the game itself seems to almost... revel? in the specific way siffrin spirals & breaks down. for a game so conflict avoidant it sure does love to put siffrin through the wringer. it's actually the game's entire conceit when you take a step back to look at the larger narrative; siffrin's mounting torment is self indulgent to me, like fanfic you purposefully seek out to watch the character go slowly insane. ultimately the tonal dissonance is leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. the suffering itself becomes the centerpiece and selling point of the game despite its framing otherwise. it makes the game's conflict avoidance between characters all the more odd

there's a point to be made in the game's favor here that resetting relationships, slogging through repetitive dialogue, fighting tedious battles etc., is meant to put yourself directly in siffrin's headspace, and this is something that i do think the game accomplishes flawlessly. you really do feel every bit of monotony, tedium, and frustration that siffrin is experiencing while trapped in the loop

but there comes a point where you have to question: why put the player through a purposefully mind numbing experience? why make your story feel like an intentional waste of time? what is the point of frustrating your player beyond that of putting them in your protagonist's shoes? why make your game hostile to play? what point are you actually trying to make about the specific way siffrin suffers? "this is what it feels like to be depressed/grieving/anxious" doesn't… come across as a hefty or profound answer to the aforementioned questions to me. i think if isat's ending had a bit more tooth to it, if there was more nuance, then it could have answered those questions in a more fulfilling way. but as it stands its ending, being as milquetoast and predictable as i found it to be, does not provide an appropriate amount of catharsis to justify the tedium of everything that came before, or even provide a proper thematic conclusion to it imo...

in act 5, when siffrin is pushed to the absolute brink, they finally lash out at their friends, and for the first time they say stuff that meaningfully hurts them. after this, theyre effectively isolated from the group for the first time. its emphasized that this is an uncharacteristic display of cruelty, and the tonal atmosphere changes accordingly. siffrin, for the first time, truly is entirely alone. but after he decides to go through a suicidal solo mission through the castle entirely by himself... his party nonetheless comes to his rescue at the last minute, willing to forgive him for his past aggression. this is because his entire timeloop situation was perfectly explained to them offscreen, so its okay, they completely understand, you were having a really rough time, you were so noble in your suffering, we forgive you, its okay, etc.

theres... multiple very obvious reasons why this feels unsatisfying to me, but i think primarily its because the ultimate reveal, the endgame explanation, the thing that the game had been building and building and building up to since the beginning (siffrin's inability to Communicate and tell his friends Anything truthful about himself-- his fear of vulnerability and instinct to wall up all of his emotions) ultimately.. does not conclude in a meaningful character arc for siffrin

sif is being kept in a timeloop of his own (unwitting) volition, because he is deathly afraid of losing his friends, but unable express this directly to their faces. the stageplay allusions, fake smile sprites, and lines where he says things he blatantly does not mean are all to illustrate to the player that sif can't and won't express his true feelings to the people he cares most about, to the detriment of both himself and his loved ones. so needless to say its Very, Very unsatisfying to see that his friends ultimately come to his aid & forgive him Not because of an action or behavior that siffrin himself took, but due to the influence of a different, separate character beaming the necessary information to his friends offscreen in a nigh omniscient manner

i’ve played a few routes with their name, but mostly on the routes where they reconnect with the rangers & finding themself falling back into hero habits despite their distaste — they r more of the type to try change the corrupt and try to improve/change the system from there! they kinda have a good relationship with most ppl both in their body and in their puppet eden 🤔 theyre trying to convince themselves that theyre only being nice to everyone so its easier to manipulate them in the future, but they just end up missing the company/connection & it becomes real...

abt their relationships —

with most of the rangers (or at least ppl who knew/knew of sidestep) its a mixed bag of feelings, because they miss the familiar company but things are different now, and they aren't sure they can act the same around them... with ortega, its a bit of a puppy crush/first love kinda energy but in the present its Complicated because ortega keeps remembering this person (sidestep) that is Very Much not them anymore and theyre desperate to escape the past with herald, they feel really embarrassed around him because he idolized sidestep, and the praise makes their skin crawl a bit... bc theyre not that person anymore and they dont think they were ever a "true hero"... but because he's so earnest & arden wants things for heroes to get better, they do end up spoiling herald a lot... with chen, it honestly feels relaxing for arden to be around him because he was always realistic about any situation... the shaky trust between them feels more realistic than this idealized sidestep that the others have... also spoon buff lol with argent, arden honestly doesn't know what to think partially bc i haven't gotten through a full argent run yet but its a breath of fresh air to be accepted as the villain bc that's what arden believes themself to be... but it also feels good to tussle around bc sometimes mind stuff & thinking too much, so its nice to have someone who speaks their mind like argent

with mortum, interacting with mortum as eden honestly makes them feel at peace. there's no expectation of them as sidestep or previous baggage and they feel like they can reinvent themselves around them & pretend that they are someone else for once, one without everything holding them back....

i think going into revelations, i'll stick with the route where arden gets help from dr. mortum instead of with the rangers, bc they still don't feel comfortable with being with the rangers bc they don't really believe in the institution / think that it might be easier to do their underground shenanigans to take the system apart at the roots...! its been a while since i've read retribution tho, so i'll probably refresh the whole series when it comes out >:3

on tumblr or irl??? because those are Very different answers. actually wait i just realized thats definitely a lie because i remembered my beloved little guys, matthew, maria, and miguel. thats three characters but theyre a set pair to me so! their story is set in an urban fantasy world, and the three of them are siblings. matthew (the youngest) inherited his parents company that specializes in combining magic and tech for advancements. maria, the middle child, broke off from the family business after an argument when she was about 15 years old. she started running her own plant shop after that, a very small one that has no interest in growing bigger. then theres miguel, who ran away from his family at 17 and was completely missing until he reappeared at 26 bloodied on marias doorstep. i Love their concept dearly, honestly the only reason i havent talked about them at all is bcs i just,,, dont know what to say?? i havent really gotten anything about them figured out other than their designs and the vague blurb of their plot. i might revisit them though, theyre a lot of fun.

tumelo literally does this exact thing at some point. and its over a Jacket 💀 shes one of my characters for the ttrpg "the urban legend club", a paranormal investigator whos intimate knowledge of the paranormal (to the point she seems almost familiar with it, hmmm wonder what thats about) helps aid the rest of the club in solving various mysteries that crop up. shes also the founder of the club! tumelo isnt impulsive, per se, but she Is stubborn as hell, and once she gets a whiff of a mystery shes going after it. at the point in time where she sneaks into the abandoned building, she had been prescribed bedrest by her very worried moms and club members because she passed out after the first investigation everybody did as a team. after hearing everybodys accounts of what happened, though, she formed a theory about the strange happenings going on in there and snuck out to confirm her suspicions herself. she was Right, but she couldnr even prove it, so uh. rip girl lmfaooo 😭

i am almost Certain that there is, i just cannot for the life of me figure out what. actually wait. in a lot of my original stories, the characters i tend to go the most insane over usually have this Big Bad Secret that pivots the way every other character sees them in the future. its really fun for me personally, i think, to play around with a character dancing around something, and to see what sort of tells (if at all) a character has that gives away the secret that slip under other characters radars. i also really love seeing the fallout in a) the reveal of the secret, and b) the fact that a character has been hiding said secret from them the entire time. it adds so much spice to how said character interacts with everybody later on. as for traits, i do love me a little shit smooth talker. also i like it when a character has, in some shape or form, genuinely been cruel, harmful, or otherwise "evil" (for lack of better word), regardless of their very same capacity to do good. very funky, i love it dearly.

The Only Home Lorelei Has Ever Known btw so they are kind of. alarmed when suddenly they are basically told "hey umm. the way you handled the situation with the whole war of the banners thing was not ideal you were impulsive and controversial and we need you to be Elsewhere while things cool down". because like, theyre being told they need to leave their home and their family and their work/education because of that. which is frustrating honestly kind of devastating. but thats how they end up w varric bc they have no where else to go

currently in act 3 and trying to stock up on shit since I recently cleared out the bank. I'm TRYING to hold myself to not starting a new character until I finish this one but I see so many monk items and i want themmmmm (I have a half elf monk open in character creator right now)

Since I played a lotttt of dragon age origins, parts of the structure of bg3 felt very familiar to me like the camp itself and like how u interact with the companions. Like coming home in a way.

I'm also playing 5e a lot so that part of the structure of it was very easy to adapt to. I do still have trouble with like certain interface things like oh man gotta select the version of the spells BEFORE TARGETTING NO GALE WHY ARE YOU RUNNING TO THEM GET BACK HERE WHY ARE YOU HITTING THEM WITH YOUR 8 STRENGTH BACKED STICK

But its great and I do like the changes made to better facilitate it being a VIDEO GAME. Like I'm a Divination Wizard. My main Thing is portent dice. (There's also detect thoughtsing my way through all social encounters which is SO GREAT honestly scratches an itch I've always wanted to do but it would be such a pain in the ass for tabletop. Like first first ever dnd character I cooked up was an illiterate mind reading sorcerer that like got by through just that. But that would be so annoying to do with like.... PEOPLE AT THE TABLE of like 'so im just constantly getting ur surface thoughts...... i can't entirely control this... i'm sorry....' )

ANYWAY portent dice!!!!! in bg3 they have it at level 6 you fulfill little prophecies to get ur dice back to make the big boss miss their BIG attack or make SURE you hit (or my favorite, make the rogue crit on a sneak attack) instead of having it that when u cast a divination spell u get a spell slot back. since theres so few divination spells especially like using IN COMBAT so I understand the change.

I also like the variety of shit you can do. like my partner is one to summon 9 creatures btw the whole party so theres a small army of creatures following their main party. (also several buffed with mage armor and everyone has a higher level aid cast on them so they also have a decent amount of health its really funni to watch) I like wrote off the summon guys moves because I just dont like to have extra guys usually.

Something I wish I did on my first playthrough tho was simply long resting more I think I fucked myself out of a lot of social link scenes in act 1 bc I straight up didn't rest enough. The game is like 'oh no time is ticking' but things aren't REALLY like that (cept for like... 2 instances I can think of) bc its a videogame and thats fine.

It WANTS you to use all your abilities and not be dum like me and just cantrip my way through most the first act 'just in case i need my slots later' why am i like this. both short and lone rest more and just use all your moves its FINE

speaking of social links and companions theyre all great. I love them all. I DO wish some things weren't like... romance locked it feels??? well more like you HAVE to reject them???? idk I had a scene with gale when he's like 'but we're not THAT close tho' and i felt bad bc like... I want to be wizard friends with you. I'm SORRY I'm so weak to both vampires and elves.

heard some shit about astarion having like so much content compared to all the other companions and man imma feel so spoiled on my playthroughs where i dont smooch the vampire. I do wish everyone else had more scenes too its a shame.

something about bg3 thats HILARIOUS to me personally is that its all like 'recruit allies against the cult' and in another irl campaign im in thats been in hiatus for years but I still hope to come back its REALLY similiar. Oh no a huge looming death cult threat to the city. oh no the city has its own fuckmess of bullshit to deal with. OH NO a shapeshifting killer. Anytime theres strong parallels to that campaign it sparks joy.

A few technical problems I've had tho were around switching characters in and out of the party. like in a building and I wanna run back to camp to tag in someone. Wait why are they on the roof????

Or I tag in someone and WHY ARE YOU CLIPPING THROUGH THE FLOOR? Tbh the game is so enjoyable I just sigh and say "Video. Game." out loud and load a save. Like the last time that was REALLY frustrating is when it just would NOT let me out of a restricted area like please I persuaded u 3 times let me go I was on my way OUT.

Also why do all these 8 strength men have abs. This is Wrong. I'm bad with figuring out the technical shit of modding but holy shit I need them to not have abs.

Anyway I had this and the character creator open for like 2 hours now so Imma start that now.

Anyway i actually have so much trouble thinking of anything for gustavo ever lmao. Everything i have for him I've adopted from other people; rem [brickattack] as mentioned on the big post, and @synthlet/softersynths for a lot of other things. [and a couple others too but iirc synths was the one who started those ppl on it as well gfjdjds] which is to say, you'd probably get better/more interesting answers from those guys :p but yeah, fp and gus are pretty close. It's the general exposure/familiarity, the fact that fp is just a happy/pleasant and easy-to-like dude personality-wise, and for gus specifically there's also a level of "he shares a lot of traits with peppino, without peppino's Baggage™"

that last point is very very interesting but i dont know if i'd Actually get to doing a lot with it bc i typically make fake pep His Own Guy, with his similarities to peppino being almost sort of coincidental. i really really really like coming at peppino and fake pep from the "equals and opposites" angle, which like, that Can still apply for that last bit abt gus, but it's not something i've put a lot of thought into. it's also just fuckin hard to articulate outside of just showing it lmao. [i mentioned like, predator/prey animal nervousness + their reactions to fear vs aggression on the other post but to pull one for here: fake pep still has his own brand of Baggage to deal with too--different stuff than peppino's--but fp is way more open about it when it comes up as opposed to peppino having 50 fuckin walls about everything.

besides that, i also see a lot of general banter about gus being a very Nature Guy™ who likes to find beauty in all the weird fucked up shit nature does [especially in a world as cartoony as theirs], which i enjoy a lot bc girl same. fp may be the farthest thing from natural, but i certainly think there is a lot of beauty to be found in his fucked-up-ness. and i'm sure gustavo sees it too.

and then a fun one i've come into pretty recently for them is that they both care abt peppino a lot, but peppino is very bad at...being cared for. so because you can rarely approach pep directly about anything if it involves vulnerability [again: 50 fuckin walls], and because they both know him very well in different ways and can get through to him about different things, they end up working together a lot in sort of a conspiratory way. plotting scheming etc. 'have you noticed anything wrong lately + how are we going to help this guy out today', that sort of thing. the idea there can go a lot of ways but i'm partial to them using like goofy cartoon antics to set him up for something that'll be beneficial to him. [also brick is in on it too technically but brick is a rat and therefore only sapient when it's funny.] peppino rarely realizes what theyre doing until it's too late. get loved idiot

TANGENTIAL. DONT even get me started on the angst oh my god. you. i am pointing at you you made me think about this. i am not usually one who likes doing angst or making things excessively bad for the hell of it but. a bitch may be considering. under cut bc its unrelated to gustavo stuff but this is as good an excuse as any to share. [+ also extra thoughts on it bc of COURSE]

so i said that at the end there but then a few hours later i found myself toying around with a script and getting a good way to set it up.... im hoping i hit a roadblock on it and drop it because if i DO end up getting it all the way written i will definitely end up drawing it at some point and that would be uh... a big undertaking. it would also be one of the last ones i do bc there's other stuff i still want to build on, so IF, i cannot stress enough IF i go to make it a thing for real, it won't be this year.

for the bits i have so far though it's interesting how much it's shaping up to be like. a showcase of just how well peppino knows fp. which is surprisingly well? even better than gus, despite gus' being WAY more emotionally perceptive. peppino doesn't engage with fp more than necessary and rarely acts interested in his business, but i do think he spends a lot of time just... observing him. if only because pep is neurotic and anxious and fp is weird and freaky so it is a constant thing of "ok what the hell is this. is this something i need to be worried about?" whenever fp is doing shit, and the answer is always ''no'', but it's the sort of instinct that never leaves you yknow. so he's just very familiar with all fp's mannerisms and reactions and whatnot, even if he doesn't really use that knowledge much.......except when things go south. he's a lot more perceptive of fp acting 'wrong' or 'off' compared to gus, who would just be seeing it on a more normal 'aw he looked upset' kind of level.

i talk a lot abt fp's nervousness but the other negative thing that's just as strong with him is frustration. it doesn't usually get to him too bad, and he doesn't really show it around people outside of the occasional eyeroll; but it's stuff like not being able to communicate properly with anyone and getting constantly [negatively] misinterpreted; knowing he's Kinda Shite at his "purpose" [i.e. being 'better peppino' or whatever] and not being able to do anything about it [i don't think he cares about that much any more but i imagine it's still gotta be a bit annoying to remember]; not getting closure for like Anything that happened at the tower, etc... and while i DON'T think this would be the kind of thing to make him go berserk [i still don't really have any idea or framing for that lol; the script starts off a couple weeks in the aftermath and i pointedly don't do flashbacks], it's definitely the kind of thing that would get exacerbated by isolation. the kind of thing that's easy to focus on and spiral about without anyone to ground him; the kind of thing that could keep him from thinking clearly and he might just need to Take It Out on something after awhile.

peppino remains a terrible mediator but he is wildly resilient and tenacious, and if you need a guy to slap some sense into you... i mean he can very literally do that, and do it better than just about anyone.
