the wildest thing about the fanfic ai drama is like, I remember when gen ai ‘art’ first started being used/posted. Pretty much every artist community I was apart of - tumblr, large discord servers, instagram, my friends in real life - was concerned, especially since being accused of using ai could interfere with a lot of their livelihoods at the time.

without fail, artists started keeping wip files, timelapses, screenshots of messages where they’d asked for feedback on a wip, etc. A lot of artists started posting wips alongside final pieces, including myself (on my now-deleted instagram, mostly) as a way to alleviate any anxiety/prevent any doubts that a human created it.

and this was in 2021-2022.

so I will never understand how, in this godforsaken year of 2025, someone would try to use the excuse of not having kept any proof of their fic as they wrote it. People have seen the art community go through this for years, in fandom and professional spaces, and know that the first thing recommended to any creator was literally ‘keep proof as you work’.

I get that we generally don’t call out people by name here but I’d really like to know the usernames of the ai-fanfic people (I’m not calling them writers) so I can block them. There is actually something helpful that comes from naming people directly

I got pretty emotional making this one! Fruits Basket had a huge, profound effect on me in my teens, and I often curled up with it for comfort and a sense of companionship during hard times. Now as an adult, it's been a while since I've read the whole series through, but I pick up random volumes fairly often and skim through them to get that familiar rush of warmth. It's still such a lovely series!
