Oh Maryse Trueblood I need to study you. The fact that Jace uses the phrase "has to believe," implying that this faith is forced. Maryse doesn't have any option besides trusting the Clave 100%; she can no longer admit to their flaws because she doesn't trust herself to make moral judgements anymore. She followed what she thought was right as a teenager and it led to attempting genocide, so as an adult she places her faith in the Clave to make those moral decisions for her. It's basically the same reasoning that Robert had for trusting Valentine when they were young! They both did something they saw as morally inexcusable and responded by handing over their decision making to someone else who they trusted to make the right call. This shows how a person can change their moral ideals without changing their underlying framework for understanding the world. Maryse is objectively doing better things that she used to, but she never fully unpacked what made those decisions harmful in the first place, so she's still following the Clave with the same blind faith she once gave Valentine. She learned the lesson that questioning the Clave is bad, but questioning the Clave was never the thing that made Valentine evil.

It’s difficult to think about Jack because of how much yet how little we’re given about him. He’s the only child of Doey that has a canonical appearance, voice, and in some aspects personality prior to his untimely transition.

Once again- this is all rambles so just hear me out. If you have any other thoughts let me know!

Both in game and in the fandom he’s often just seen as the pure one. He’s childish, silly, and experiences his emotions very strongly. But I think there’s just a little more to be explored with that!

I have a headcanon that the Jack side of Doey is just a little more unhinged compared to the others. He’s the youngest and he’s the one who’s been in dough the longest. Doey watched Susan and George die by his own hands. He lived through the HOJ, was tortured by playtime employees, and experienced the horrors of playtime. That shit does things to you. as well adjusted as Doey is.

Jack is younger than the other boys, more impressionable so to speak. If he, now Doey, was raised in a hostile environment where consumption of human flesh and hunting for food was the norm, it’s not irrational to assume he’s used to this and finds ways to make it fun. His intro in game for example: he completely demolished and devoured a toy in front of the player and cracked a joke about it.

A lot of this spawned from Micheal Kovach’s description of Jack as Doey’s “innocent” side. In his innocence he takes horrific moments such as that as just another Tuesday. He giggles as he slaughters pianosaurus. Now, it’s also fair to assume that the other boys had an influence here, which I can agree with! Doey (in my interpretation) is much more one mashed up being instead of three distinct ones so who knows where one boy ends and where the other begins (although it can be clear at certain points). But! I still think it’s fun to think about.

Even as Doey, Jack is still young and childlike but that doesn’t mean he’s a baby ya know? He’s been through his own traumas and complex emotions, even if he can’t fully understand them. I just think it’s fun to think about those implications on his mind, even if it really isn’t his anymore. He still experiences emotions very strongly. He still knows what’s going on around him. He has had the same experiences as the other two boys over the last decade. He should show that more. I think

Kinda going based off of your SA Hunter head canons and your Gilded Aged AU, do you think Hunter sees Belos interacting with Luz and feels intense Jealousy? Belos’ attention seems like absolutely everything to Hunter, to have someone steal that attention. How do you think that would play in their relationship? if you don’t mind me asking.

Yeah…. Yeah their relationship gets a bit rocky. Hunter just wants Belos to care about him, to love him, they’re family, and yet this human girl shows up out of nowhere and Belos is so nice to her. At least from his perspective. What gives her the right? And then Luz has the nerve to look at him with those big sad brown eyes and pity him?

and the thing is, he can’t even bring himself to hate her. She’s so nice. So kind. she’s interested in what he has to say, she teaches him Spanish, and she’s the first person who gives a fuck about him enough to worry and ask if he’s okay when he’s not. Her touch is gentle and he’s never been hugged before. It’s so nice.

He thinks to himself that as long as she doesn’t stick her nose where it doesn’t belong, they can keep being nice. Belos will reward him for being good, and Luz will be there to give him a breath of fresh air when he fails.

But Luz will do no such thing.

i love nicky hemmick. i think about how much he loves his family and how often that comes into conflict with what he wants. how he left the life he was making for himself in germany to take care of his cousins, despite being a pretty ineffectual guardian. how he doesn't understand andrew literally at all but still obviously cares about him so much. how he sides with andrew and aaron at every opportunity. how it was what his dad did to andrew that finally got him to cut contact with his parents.

the only reason that wash was able to make up for what he’d done is because he got lucky to live long enough that a bunch of people with little to no moral code didn’t care that he’d done bad things and adopted him anyway. he didn’t do anything to ~earn~ his redemption. he didn’t work hard to get the chance to become a better person. he was given it. holding south to the standard of wash wrt redemption is so dishonest because not only was she never given the chance to be redeemed, he is literally the reason she never got that chance! he cut her down in the middle of her arc! caboose looked at wash at his most vulnerable and least redeemable moment and decided to show him compassion and love. wash looked at south at her most vulnerable and least redeemable moment and killed her.

(ln8 spoilers) jinshi thinking except for my godly looks i am just average and then his smartass goes and kills around five birds with just one brand. someone whose status is so high that even his name can't be said by anyone except the emperor jinshi branded himself with the crest of the empress vowing loyalty to her assuring her he doesn't wants to take the place of her son. one-upping his "bro" with this who refuses to let him leave the line of succession wouldn't let him become a commoner doesn't wants to let him become a servant to the royal family. only slaves get branded and if this ever got out there will be chaos in the court. gyokuyou tho considers jinshi like a brother and he did swear loyalty to her but if she ever tried to cross his family her clan's brand on his body would be enough to prove her as an adultress which would be bad for her and her clan.

and jinshi did this in front of these two people and maomao so now she is the only one who can see him naked and the emperor cannot order him to marry anyone which was something that was definitely gonna happen had he not done what he did. as a bonus he gets to spend more time with maomao after a long time and he did all this while saying the exact words: empress gyokuyou, your enemy i shall never be in front of maomao reassuring her because she once muttered i don't want to be an enemy to empress gyokuyou and he had heard her but before he could tell her that he had no intention of doing that either he couldn't because of the lishu incident. one of the major reasons maomao hadn't accepted her own feelings for jinshi one of the obstacles he promised to remove for her. even though he doesn't even know that maomao's concerns about her becoming gyokuyou's enemy had to do with his birth secret his true status. that no matter what he is the rightful successor. something jinshi himself isn't even aware of and yet without knowing that he did this to deal with it all in a single way most preferable to him: masochism
