handing out candy with matt on halloween and him getting excited with all of the little kids about their costumes and being like "omg you look so cool/cute" or something like that?? Idk I feel like he'd be so excited about/with all of the little kids/he'd be so good with them

children's dialogue is green | not edited, lowercase intended
matt and i have been looking forward to this day for months since we moved into our own house. october was my favorite month and i loved to decorate and truly embrace the spirit of halloween. our neighborhood is mostly younger children so i kept the decorations kid friendly.
matt was eager to help me decorate. he decided to change to porch lights to orange bulbs to and i quote “feel like we’re in a pumpkin”. he covered every inch of the entryway in cobwebs, like every inch. this cute bat garland from etsy hung meticulously under the porch roof as if they were flying. a mix of orange and white pumpkins decorated the stairs, some carved, some not. warm tones string lights entwined around the railing beautifully lit up the entrance.
the chime of the doorbell has been leaping out from my spot in seconds. grabbing the bowl of candy, i open the door and am met with a 4 year old in a dinosaur costume.
“trick or treat” the little voice says.
“can you show me your biggest roar” i ask.
“rooooaaaarrr”
“oh my goodness you scared me” i say dramatically with my hand on my chest. “that deserves 3 pieces of candy” reaching my hand out to put it in the little pumpkin basket.
“thank you”
“you are so welcome have fun” i tell the little dinosaur before wishing the parents a good night.
closing the door i'm met with matt leaning against the wall. “that was adorable”
matt and i have decided to take turns answering the door, watching the other from afar.
“trick or treat” a sweet voice sings. matt crouches down to the little girl’s height not wanting to scare her. “you are the prettiest princess ever! i love your dress it’s so sparkly” he says in a soft, endearing tone, earning a giggle from the tiny princess.
as he closes the door he puts his hand on his chest and softly exhales.
“their tiny costumes are so cute" he gushes. He walks into the kitchen to grab a drink as the doorbell chimes again. "I got it".
i gasp with excitement when i open the door to find a little boy as winnie the pooh and a little girl as piglet. the little girl had the same reaction when she saw me.
"rapunzel! mommy it's rapunzel!" the girl's face lit up with joy as she clings to her mom.
i kneel down to her height, using my body to keep the door propped open. "i've always wanted to meet piglet and pooh, what a lovely surprise this is!". The little girl is hesitant, wanting to hug me but also anxious. "would you like a hug sweetheart it's not everyday you get to meet a princess" i softly smile, holding my hand out for her. with some princess encouragement she makes her way into my arms.
"where's flynn?" the little girl questions, slightly pulling back from the hug to look at me but still holding onto me.
"i think i saw him not long ago, how about we call out his name to see if we can find him?" i suggest, fully embracing my role as rapunzel.
we call out for flynn who took no time to show up. as he gets closer i can here him ask "what do we have here?". i tell him "we have surprise visitors who have travelled a long way to see us". the shy girl peeks at matt as pooh stands beside me.
matt crouches beside me, sensing she's nervous. he extends his hands out, one for each kid. "rapunzel and i were just talking about how we wanted to go to the 100 acre woods to see you, and here you are!"
the little girl removes herself from my hold, grasping her hand around one of matt's fingers and gives him a hug. before she can pull away pooh joins in on the hug. i can feel my eyes about to tear up. blinking them away, i rest my hand on matt's shoulder giving it a little squeeze. just as he sends me a soft smile the parents are telling their kids they need to keep going. as matt releases them from the hug, i grab the candy bowl and let them pick what they want out.
the family heads down the path, turning to wave goodbye, matt pulls me into his side wrapping his arm around my waist. "we'll see you soon friends" i say in a cheery voice.
shutting the front door matt and i looked at each other, eyes filled with love. "that made my night, that was the cutest thing ever!" matt pulls me close to him by my waist as my arms make their way to his neck. we embrace each other for a while just relishing in this moment we've talked about for years.
"i can't wait for that to be our kids one day. dressing them up in tiny adorable costumes for them to show off" he whispers. "you were so good with them, how you got her to come give you a hug despite being scared, she felt safe in your arms. you'll be the best mom one day."
"our kids are gonna be the coolest you already know that. i was gonna say the same about you, how gentle and sweet you were with them. i can't wait for a lifetime of trick or treating with you.

Ineffable Husbands Solarpunk AU Drabble
Sorry to followers not in this fandom, this is just a little experiment to help spread awareness of the solarpunk movement :)
A Buzzing Favour
In the heart of a thriving solarpunk village, where wind turbines spun elegantly in the background and green rooftops adorned each building, Aziraphale’s garden was a little paradise. Amidst the flourishing beds of lavender and wildflowers, he tended lovingly to his beehives. His bees, plump and fuzzy, were essential players in this ecosystem.
One afternoon, as the golden sunlight bathed the neighborhood, Crowley strolled into Aziraphale’s garden, his dark sunglasses incongruous with the bright and cheery surroundings. His gaze flitted around the colorful patchwork of flowers and greenery before settling on Aziraphale, who wore a broad-brimmed hat and a gentle smile.
“Angel,” Crowley drawled, a hint of a smirk tugging at his lips. “I need a favour.”
Aziraphale straightened up, his hands covered in pollen, and smiled warmly. “Oh, Crowley! What can I do for you?”
Crowley’s voice softened as he explained, “I’ve got a fruit tree orchard that needs a little… encouragement. The trees are just not bearing like they should, and I was hoping to borrow a few of your hives for some extra pollination.”
Aziraphale chuckled, a melodious sound that made Crowley’s heart skip a beat. “Of course, my dear! I’ll gladly help. My bees have been quite busy lately, but they’d love a new adventure.”
The two of them walked together to the hives, chatting about the latest developments in their green, free, self-sufficient society. Crowley’s tense demeanour relaxed as he listened to Aziraphale’s enthusiastic descriptions of new eco-friendly projects he was involved in.
When they reached the hives, Aziraphale gently collected a few, humming softly as he worked. Crowley watched, a fond smile creeping across his face as he admired the way Aziraphale’s eyes sparkled with joy.
“I must admit,” Crowley said, leaning closer to Aziraphale, “I didn’t just come here for the bees.”
Aziraphale paused and looked up, curiosity in his eyes. “Oh?”
Crowley hesitated for a moment, uncharacteristically shy, before he whispered, “I missed you, Angel.”
Aziraphale’s face lit up with a smile that rivalled the sun. “I missed you too, Crowley.”
With the bees safely secured, they walked back to Crowley’s orchard together, hand in hand, ready to embark on a new adventure in their solarpunk paradise. This was their favourite era of human history so far, by far. As they worked side by side, they knew that whatever came next, they would be together, their love blooming as beautifully as the vibrant world around them.

edit to add: it's because of this incredible fanart that i got this brainworm
Tumblr media
no bc i need to talk about this, like i'm NOT DONE like bakugou as your next door neighbor !! since you were a child !! and it's a nice neighborhood and his parents seem well adjusted and have clean-cut professional jobs and hold dinner parties with your parents and they're always bringing something delicious for the neighborhood new year's get together.
BUT THEIR SON IS A LITTLE HELLION. the kid that had a mohawk in middle school and made fun of you for not using cuss words until you were like 13. and he's not a bad kid, bc he still is at the top of all his classes and never breaks the law or anything -- but he comes to school after his 16th birthday with a piercing through the middle of his lip and the clothes he wears are black and baggy and he drives an old beat up, cherry red shelby mustang and you're pretty sure he got the tattoo on his forearm before he was 18.
and your dad is like. absolutely not. don't even look at that boy. can't even be caught dead with him.
you've been neighbors for almost your entire life, but it's not like you're really friends. hung out together when there was no one else and your dad was too busy talking about the upcoming season for fishing and golfing to notice. your mom doesn't mind so much bc he's really not terrible, just a wicked little brat, and the week he started playing the drums, nobody in a five mile radius got any sleep. still blares music with open windows and turns it up even louder when you wave at him from across the lawn to shut up.
at graduation, he accepts his diploma -- summa cum laude, of course, the little shit -- and almost gets kicked off stage for sticking his tongue out in the picture. wears all this smudged liner under his eyes and gels his hair out at a million different angles. bc he's the WORST. and your parents try to throw a combined graduation party bc it's easier to plan, but of course bakugou could care less. doesn't even show up until the very end, after most of everyone is gone. counts all the money from the congrats grad! cards he got and then tells you,
"'m gettin' the fuck out of here after this."
you don't think he means the party.
"hate this shit," he grumbles, and you're surprised that he's even talking to you. in his backyard, in front of the beautifully built fire pit for those cold fall nights. it's still hot in june, but he lit it out of spite, bc he doesn't mind the heat. "never gonna be like these fuckin' losers, worried about what everyone else thinks of me 'n shit. oh the HOA will be upset if we decorate the lawn with skeletons, fuck you."
it makes you laugh--he kind of always does, with how crass he can be--and he looks at you, sitting in the wicker chair beside him. he looks like he's glowing in the fire light, liner looking even darker with the shadows on his face. he's traded the stud in his lip for a little hoop in his septum, another in his eyebrow almost hidden in his hair.
"know your ass is gonna stick around here," he says it like an accusation, frowning. "gonna fuckin'--look for some prince charming, tuxedo mask douchebag. shack up and buy a house in the hills or somethin'."
"maybe," you shrug, earning a scoff from him. now that high school is over, the future seems so--open ended. you thought you'd be prepared by now, after all that your parents have tried to instill in you since elementary school, but. you don't know. maybe you don't want to go to law school. "or maybe i'll--join a rock band. dye my hair pink and split my tongue, or something."
you stick your tongue out for emphasis and he watches you closely, sticking his own out in response. when you laugh again, he shuffles in his seat and looks away.
"whatever." bakugou snorts, "you don't know the first thing about bein' in a band. i'd have to teach you everything."
"oh, you think you could?"
"hell yeah," he grins, wicked, all sharp teeth and sin. "learn from the fuckin' master."
"oh my god," you roll your eyes, but smile at him anyway. his eyes dart down to the curve of your lips, the apple of your cheeks, and then he's looking away again. speaking into the fire instead.
"i mean i guess i could, if you wanted, or whatever." the only fully painted fingernail remaining on his left hand is his pinky, and he picks at with interest. "if you--wanna come with me, not like i give a shit."
you try to picture it, you and him. katsuki. in the passenger seat of his car with nothing but clothes in a backpack, money stuffed in your pockets. wherever he's going--you don't even know--but it couldn't be too bad, with him. stopping in a motel when the driving gets old, buying snacks to feed him so he doesn't have to take his eyes off the road. he could be there when you get your first tattoo, and even though he'd make fun of you no matter what you choose, you don't think there's anyone else you would want there but him.
"when are we leaving?" you ask it to the sky, open and unending. dark and dazzling just like him.
from the corner of your eye, you can see him look at you for a long time before he snorts again, soft. disappointed, almost, because he knows it could never be. your fate has already been sealed, molded, starting from the day you moved in next door, and no matter how much you'd love to throw caution to the wind and follow him--it's just a dream.
"first thing tomorrow," he murmurs, and your heart thumps harder in your chest. so violent that it hurts. when you look at him, his face is turned up to the sky, too. "don't be late."

request: coming home for christmas (you are my home)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Wanda Maximoff x Natasha Romanoff
Word Count: 1390
A/N: based on this request HERE :) Happy holidays everyone!
---
"You got everything, Nat?"
With a low grunt, Natasha hoisted her backpack onto her shoulders, trying not to wince in pain. "I'm good, Hill."
Maria watched as Natasha subconsciously grasped her left side. She knew the Russian sustained a severe injury on her latest mission, but her friend refused to tell her how serious it was, like always. "You should get that checked." The SHIELD agent received a dismissive noise from the redhead.
"I will. It can wait," Natasha responded brusquely while waiting for the Quinjet's ramp to extend out onto the landing pad.
"It can," Maria agreed. "All I ask is that you don't wait too long." She knew why Natasha was impatient and understood why. It genuinely warmed her heart knowing that Natasha was finally embracing her feelings. "Say hi to Wanda for me."
Natasha flipped her off, to which Maria simply smirked. Eventually, the spy's features relaxed and smiled at her fellow agent.
"Merry Christmas, Maria."
"Merry Christmas, Nat. Now hurry up and leave so I can close the jet before I freeze my ass off."
---
When Natasha entered the compound, she wasn't surprised when Vision phased and descended down from the ceiling. She heard the compound was attacked while she was away, but fortunately no one was hurt and only structures were damaged. Vision volunteered to patrol the area during the nights with FRIDAY to ensure everyone's safety.
"Agent Romanoff, welcome back," Vision greeted politely.
"Thank you, Vision," she returned the sentiment with a smile. "Glad to see you're doing good."
"We have all missed your presence in the compound, especially Miss Maximoff.
Natasha swallowed thickly, feeling her heart tightened at the mention of Wanda.
"Where is she?"
"She in the communal area. The space is beautifully decorated with festive ornaments and lights with a large Christmas and lit menorah set on a spacious table. Miss Maximoff put great effort in decorating, believing you'd love the sight once you've returned. However, last time I patrolled that area of the compound, I believe she had dozed off by the tree."
"I see." Natasha cleared her throat in a poor attempt to hide the emotion welling up in her throat. She wondered how long Wanda was waiting for her when there was no indication of Natasha even returning home tonight on Christmas Eve. It just so happened Natasha returned to the Avengers Compound in time for Christmas. She didn't want to keep the young brunette waiting any longer. "I'll go check on her." The spy flinched when she noticed the synthezoid's piercing blue eyes on her and already anticipated what he was about to say.
"You are injured," Vision noted quietly after a surface level scan. "You have a laceration dealt to your left lumbar region."
"I put on a fresh bandage and antibiotics before Maria dropped me off. I'll be fine," she insisted stubbornly.
To the Russian's surprise, she could see a sort of understanding expression coming from the sentient robot. "Of course. I understand that seeing Miss Maximoff is of great importance to you. I shall take my leave and resume my patrol route," Vision said with a dip of his head.
Natasha waved Vision goodbye as he phased beneath the floor, leaving her alone with her thoughts as she made her way to the communal area. Even before entering the room, she saw the soft glow of the fluorescent holiday lights hung across the walls and ceilings. Red, green, gold, and silvery white overloaded her senses in a pleasant way that reminded her of her childhood wishes to have a proper Christmas like other families in her Ohio neighborhood.
Wanda was fast asleep on one of the Lawson chairs positioned near the tree, legs curled up and wrapped in a scarlet red fleece blanket. She had reindeer antlers on, and the simple sight made Natasha smile as warmth bloomed in her chest. Carefully, Natasha knelt down in front of the sleeping Sokovian and rested a hand on her leg, gently shaking her awake.
"Wanda?" She whispered the name softly over and over until Wanda's eyes began to flutter open. It took the young woman several moments after waking up to realize who was in front of her, and when her vision finally focused and could clearly see Natasha, it wasn't long until tears brimmed her eyes.
"Natasha…?" Wanda whispered, voice thick with emotion.
"It's me," Natasha affirmed gently.
Wanda's bottom lip trembled, and she couldn't help but launch herself at the older woman, accidently knocking Natasha onto her back but into an embrace. The hug didn't last long when Wanda heard Natasha hiss in pain in her ear, immediately pulling back to sit up with worry swirling in her ocean-colored eyes. Though she winced in pain, Natasha chased after Wanda and sat up with her, taking the brunette's hands into hers. "I'm fine." She tried to reassure Wanda with a smile. "My left side is sore, but it shouldn't be infected." Natasha felt her entire body melt when Wanda cupped her face, sighing softly when her thumbs brushed against her cheekbones.
"You're really here… I'm not dreaming, am I?"
Natasha let out a throaty chuckle, bringing Wanda closer so that she was situated on her lap. She wrapped her arms around the younger woman's waist and smirked when Wanda placed her arms around her neck in response. "Definitely not a dream."
"Prove it," Wanda challenged, leaning downward.
Natasha didn't have to be told what Wanda wanted, far too eager to capture the Sokovian's lips in a kiss after being separated for two months. Wanda sighed into another kiss and Natasha took the opportunity to dart her tongue forward, the brunette already granting her access to explore her mouth and deepen the kiss. Normally, this sort of compromising position and Wanda's lips on hers was enough to ignite a fire that burned between her legs, but the soft sight of Wanda in reindeer antlers, an oversized knitted red sweater with a snowman design stitched on the front, and the festive atmosphere surrounding them was more than enough to quell any primal urges. Natasha was simply happy to be back to spend the holidays with her girl.
Once they were temporarily satiated, they moved onto the couch for better comfort for the sake of Natasha's injury. Wanda was huddled happily against the redhead with her head on the latter's shoulder while Natasha had her arm around the younger. Noticing that it was almost midnight, Natasha dug through her backpack to hand over a small box with a tiny bow on top.
"A present for you," Natasha said. "It's not much but… I hope you like it."
Wanda straightened herself and gingerly untied the boy before pulling off the box lid. She let out a soft gasp when she saw the contents of the box: a sterling silver ring attached to a chain with words engraved on the surface:
Ты моё сча́стье
You are my happiness
Natasha watched as pure happiness crossed Wanda's face, but seconds later, her smile faded into a frown and her eyes fell sad, which worried her. The spy wondered if she was coming off too strong with the ring's message, that maybe she was unintentionally burdening Wanda with her emotions. She had no idea how to interpret the sudden shift in Wanda's expressions.
"Natasha, this is beautiful. I love it so much. Now I feel terrible because all I got you was a matching ugly Christmas sweater…" Wanda mumbled despondently, genuinely upset at herself.
A big sigh of relief escaped Natasha and was unable to stop herself from laughing, more at herself for being ridiculous at doubting Wanda's feelings for her. "You wanted us to match," Natasha noted.
"I do," Wanda admitted with a pout. "Please say you'll wear my sweater."
Natasha immediately tugged the sweater over her tactical suit once Wanda gave her the wrapped sweater. Once she was comfy in the knitted garment, Natasha helped clasp the ring around Wanda's neck.
The moment the clock struck midnight, Wanda used her powers to whip up two hot mugs of hot chocolate from the comfort of the couch. Natasha wrapped the fleece blanket around her and Wanda, and together, they talked into the night with their hot chocolates in hand, making up for lost time and spending their first Christmas together.

Idyllic

Y/N always loved Christmas. Ever since she was young, she always found the holiday to be the most enchanted and romantic. She adored the decorations and festivities; she reveled in the warmth of the lit fireplaces and fluffy blankets; she was filled with joy that people had always seemed more giving and friendly. It probably didn’t help that her childhood was spent in an idyllic, snowy town.
But that was when she was younger—a free-spirit with not a care in the world other than waiting for the first snowfall to make snowmen and angels. In her late teens, Y/N’s family had moved away, and ever since then, Y/N has longed for that picture-perfect Christmas once again.
She wanted to go back to the days of the fresh, fluffy snow and the perfect cookies her grandmother made and the beautifully decorated neighborhood houses with twinkling trees and a wreath on every window. She didn’t want to spend another second worrying so much about work and bills or having so many responsibilities that she didn’t even have time to hang up a stocking.
Her aunt, the woman who understood Y/N’s love for Christmas best, was the one to get her out of her cheer-less slump with an early present on the first day of December. She had gotten Y/N a one-of-a-kind snow globe. It was large with a polished wooden base; the inside depicted that perfect Christmas town Y/N had been longing for since her childhood.
It’s magic. That’s what her aunt had told her. The snow globe was full of the whimsy and Christmas cheer that Y/N was missing this year. She had told her niece if she shook it and believed hard enough, she would be taken away to a winter wonderland with everything she was looking for.
Later that night Y/N had smiled sadly as she shook the snow globe and placed it on her bedside table. She so badly wanted what her aunt had said to be true, but it just wasn’t possible. Magic didn’t exist, and the perfect Christmas was a memory lost to time from Y/N’s past.
However, as Y/N slept that night, swirls of snowflakes and a white glow drifted from the snow globe, enveloping Y/N. As a bitter wind brushed over her, Y/N awoke to find herself laying in a snowpile in the Christmas town from her decoration.
“Are you alright?”
Y/N startled at the voice, whipping to the side to find a tall, broad-chested man looking down at her. He smiled softly, highlighting his handsome features, and reached out to help her up. She nodded, taking his hand, and stood to dust off the snow covering her.
“I’m Shownu. Are you new to town?”
Y/N simply nodded again, still too stunned by her surroundings to do much else.
She took in the little town that she could see from their spot on the hillside. Behind them was what seemed to be an endless forest of pine trees, the scent of evergreen sharp in her nose. Softer, drifting on the breeze, was the smell of cinnamon and gingerbread baking with chestnuts roasting and the sweetness of cloves and oranges being brewed for mulled wine. Snowflakes continued to dance on the icy breeze, floating down from a somehow cloudless night sky—every star shining brightly—and the town in the valley glowed with a warmth she hadn’t experienced in years.
Y/N could hardly believe it. Her aunt was right, and she had found her perfect Christmas town.
Shownu, who worked in the woodshop and lumberyard, was immediately friendly and welcoming, if not a bit shy. He offered to show her around the town, introducing Y/N to the residents and business owners—who were all just as welcoming and kind as Shownu had been to her. They all just seemed to radiate the spirit of Christmas that she so craved in her daily life.
Everything in the town was perfect, and it was easy for Y/N to fall into a routine with the townsfolk. Hours turned to days turned to weeks, and Y/N lost herself to the wonderland of the snow globe world.
Each day Y/N would awaken at the town inn and help serve the patrons breakfast as thanks for allowing her to stay. Then she would wander the town and participate in whatever activities the town was hosting—there was sledding and decorating and a town-wide bake-off and even snow castle building.
In the evenings, after Christmas festivities and daily chores were completed, Shownu would pick Y/N up at the inn and take her to dinner. He would go caroling with her and shopping for sweaters and gifts. They went to a Christmas party and were caught under the mistletoe. He asked her on a date, which involved a horse-drawn carriage and fireside hot cocoa.
Quickly, Shownu and Y/N found themselves wrapped in a bubble of not only holiday cheer, but romance and passion and love. One date turned into two. A giggly mistletoe peck turned into heated stolen kisses with breathy voices and whispered promises. Innocent hand-holding and quick hugs goodbye turned to cuddling in front of the fireplace and desperate embraces underneath the stars beneath a woolen blanket.
However, just like in any enchanting fairytale, it eventually came to an end.
On Christmas Eve, both soul and body bare, Y/N and Shownu exchanged presents and promises of a lifetime of love. But as they drifted off just before midnight in front of the dwindling fire, Y/N felt a shiver of bitter, icy air, and when she fluttered her eyes open, she found herself back in her bedroom, alone.
Y/N sat up, glancing around her small, lonely bedroom, as memories of the idyllic little Christmas town began to drift away. Until the only face she could remember was that of her Christmas love.

In the dimly lit corners of our hearts, we gather here today, each of us nursing a profound sense of sorrow, akin to a person seeking solace in a tub of ice cream, tears streaming down their face, hidden away in the solitude of a closet, their only comfort the innocent joy of kitty cat pictures.
We are here to honor the life and legacy of a remarkable woman, Janice Burgess. Born on a cold winter’s day, March 1, 1952, in the lively neighborhood of Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Janice embarked on a journey that would leave an indelible mark on the world of children’s television.
Her journey was not unlike the ascent of a mountain, starting at the base with humble beginnings at a local TV station, WQED, and reaching the summit at Nickelodeon. Her path was steep and challenging, but her determination and talent were her climbing gear, propelling her upwards.
Janice’s most notable contribution to children’s television was the creation of The Backyardigans, a show that has touched the hearts of countless children, including many of us here today. The Backyardigans was more than just a show; it was a testament to Janice’s belief in the power of imagination and the importance of friendship. Each episode was a new adventure, a new lesson, and a new opportunity to learn and grow.
On March 2, 2024, Janice Burgess passed away, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and entertain future generations. Her life was a testament to the power of creativity, perseverance, and the belief in the potential of every child’s imagination.
As we remember Janice today, our hearts are heavy with grief, yet filled with gratitude. A song, “Thank You,” beautifully encapsulates our feelings towards her. To Janice, we say: “Thank you for the way… you brightened up our day with the lovely stories you told. Very nicely, we should say! Thanks for flying in… and making us grin! 'Cause it got us out… of the rut that we… were… in. Thank you. We just want to say ‘thank you!’ It’s neat how you’re so sweet, so we want to say ‘thank you.’”
Janice Burgess, your work has not only entertained us but also shaped us into the people we are today. Your stories have taught us the value of friendship, the joy of adventure, and the power of imagination. For that, we say, “Thank you.”
May your soul rest in peace, and may your legacy continue to inspire and bring joy to children around the world. Thank you, Janice Burgess. You will be dearly missed, but your spirit will live on in the hearts of those you’ve touched, like the faint echo of a beloved song, or the lingering sweetness of a cherished memory.

AO3 wrapped!
Respond to this with what you would call the top 5 fanfics you’ve read in 2022. Any genre! Any ship! (Bonus points: if you’re a creator, make this a 5+1 and include your favorite fic you wrote in 2022!)
Then leave this in your friends’ asks too. Let’s give creators one more spotlight before the year ends, and share some of what we’ve enjoyed along the way!
Sure thing anon! Okay, so, with the caveat that these are fic I read and bookmarked this year, they haven't actually been written this year... also, I have a ton of fic I've read and loved--way more than 5--so you can always go into my bookmarks on ao3 and read what I've got in there, it would thrill me to know other people are reading the same fic I adored, lol... here are 5 fics I read: 1. Getting There by @mswhich (teen wolf, chris/derek)-Oh boy, this fic made my chest hurt in the best possible way. A meditation on grief after Allison dies where Chris is on a steep downward spiral and Derek takes care of him. It's so much more than that, but I don't want to ruin it. There's something so easy about the two of them in this fic, and it's a ship I'd never really considered before but this fic makes it work so beautifully that I'm sold. 2. The Standing Dead by standinginanicedress (teen wolf, sterek famous au)- techinically a duology, I know I'm late to the party on this writer, but I read all 244k of this series in one huge gulp. I couldn't put it down. I love angst and I love it unrelenting for 3/4th of the fic and that's what this is. The second one especially has some beautiful passages about the addiction recovery process that still haunt me to this day. I appreciate especially it wasn't afraid to show that recovery isn't a straight line, and in telling the story, showing their flaws and all, the writer made these characters *so* vivid and real. 3. a traditional courtship by helenish (x-man, charles/eric) Okay, so I REALLY don't go here. X-men isn't one of my fandoms but I was recced this fic because while abo isn't always my jam, I love it when writers play with societal elements in an abo universe and man oh man does THIS one do that. Eric is an alpha "passing" as omega, and it's just a really beautiful, 12k metaphor on identity and how people want to be perceieved by strangers and the ones they love. 4. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood by gremble aka @abeautifulblog (Dream Daddy, dadsona/Robert Small) Okay so I really really REALLY don't go here. I don't play video games of any kind at all, I never have, but I fell into this beheamoth 112k fic and it absolutely lit my brain on fire. The writer offers a primer if you, like me, don't know a thing about this game that is super helpful. This fic has a fully fleshed out, realized world full of interesting, perfectly imperfect characters that were so much fun to follow. 5.the guard place by thirtysixhudson (gen, Good Place/ Old Guard crossover) It's the 528 words you never knew you needed until it's right in front of you. I fucking LOVE The Good Place and this mini fic made me laugh so hard. Jason Mendoza at his finest. +1 should i stay or should i go? by darkisrising (me!) (Stranger Things au, gen) This might be the first story I've ever written that made me laugh while I was writing it. These characters are all such clowns and such a joy to play with. Even though the fic didn't get a lot of traction I stand by it, dammit, lol. The premise: instead of chasing the otherworldly, the Stranger Things kids start a garage band. Steve is roped into being their ride to gigs.

2. Enhance Your Home's Curb Appeal A beautifully lit home is a sight to behold. Holiday lighting can enhance your home's curb appeal, making it stand out in your neighborhood. Well-designed lighting not only highlights the architectural features of your home but also creates a welcoming atmosphere for guests and passersby.
3. Spread Joy and Cheer There's something undeniably uplifting about holiday lights. They bring joy and cheer to both the residents and the community. A dazzling display can brighten the spirits of everyone who sees it, spreading the holiday cheer far and wide.
Types of Holiday Lighting Installations 1. Roofline Lighting Roofline lighting is a classic and elegant way to outline the shape of your home. This type of installation involves placing lights along the edges of your roof, creating a clean and defined look. Roofline lighting can be customized with different colors and styles to match your holiday theme.
2. Tree and Shrub Lighting Wrapping trees and shrubs with lights adds depth and dimension to your holiday display. This type of lighting can create a magical, enchanted forest look in your yard. Using LED lights can ensure your display is energy-efficient and long-lasting.
3. Pathway Lighting Pathway lighting is not only beautiful but also functional. It guides guests to your front door and enhances the safety of your property. From simple, classic designs to more elaborate setups, pathway lighting can be tailored to fit your style.
4. Decorative Displays From festive figurines to illuminated reindeer and sleighs, decorative displays add a whimsical touch to your holiday lighting. These displays can be placed in your yard, on your porch, or even on your roof, creating a festive scene that delights both children and adults.
5. Window and Door Frame Lighting Framing your windows and doors with lights creates a picturesque, postcard-perfect look. This type of lighting accentuates the architectural features of your home and adds a touch of elegance to your holiday decor.
Why Choose Professional Holiday Lighting Installation? 1. Safety First Installing holiday lights can be a daunting and potentially dangerous task. They can assess your property and develop a customized lighting plan that highlights its best features. Luxembourg – February 2022
A quick and chilly weekend roadtrip to a new country. We arrived in Luxembourg with little plan but to wander the city. It was a beautifully sunny day but the wind was bitingly cold and I spent the whole day wishing I had a warmer coat, or gloves.
Our first stop was “The balcony of Europe”, and it did indeed live up to the grandeur of its moniker. The city stands on the edge of a cliffside with large fortifications – or the remains of them- carved into the very rock itself. It was originally built in the year 943, and had 14 miles of tunnels within the cliff walls. There’s a beautiful bridge spanning the gap in one part, crossing the ponds and green vineyards beneath. Most of it had to be dismantled when Luxembourg became neutral due to the Treaty of London in 1867. How demoralizing it must have been for the locals to see it all torn down.
I love that you love taking the time to read plaques and Wikipedia articles about all the places we visit as much as I do. I love learning things together and telling each other stories that enrich each location we get to see.
After thoroughly exploring The Balcony from above and below (but not from inside unfortunately- still shut down) we continued to wander the city streets, which were white-walled and tidy and rather empty. We found a vegan restaurant and had a hearty meal to comfort us from the cold, and very good carrot cake. We found a bar after and has some delicious fancy cocktails to warm us further, before we said farewell to the now-dark city- the cliffs now lit by golden lamplight.
-
Castle visiting day! We have several stops as we make the loop back home. The sun had had enough and this day was grey and foggy. But as we drove through the countryside of rolling hills dotted with old twisted trees, neat hedges, and the occasional sheep, I decided that the weather complimented the land perfectly.
The first castle was Medieval Castle Beufort. It was also closed, covid again probably. But we parked and tramped around the muddy exterior anyhow. It wasn’t really bigger or grander than others we had seen, but there was something about it that really captured my imagination. I felt like I would actually enjoy being a lady of that manor and its sweeping lawn leading off to a pond and a willow tree in the distance. I could imagine myself sweeping down the stairs in a gown before leaping onto a horse and flying down the grass to the treeline… it inspires that kind of drama.
The next was Esch-sur-Sûre- a sprawling ruin covering an entire hilltop. It has to be the largest we’ve seen. A tiny town sits clustered around the base of the hill, all tucked into the tightest bend in the river, almost making a loop. It’s really the perfect spot, they must have felt so safe! There was much to explore- plenty of old rooms to duck into and old stairs to climb. In the tallest tower, we tucked our umbrellas somewhere they wouldn’t blow away and danced to our song.
-
We left Luxembourg, but stopped for a night in Trier before truly heading home. You found it because it’s known for its Roman ruins.
On arrival, we were a bit alarmed to find out that the Airbnb listing photos did not quite match reality. The room itself was fine, but the neighborhood was… sketchy. Very dirty, garbage everywhere, men standing around making us (or maybe just me) nervous, and the house being the ONLY residential building on the block that we had to carry our bags to from a couple blocks away- it made us feel rather exposed. In fact, we found that the whole city had a kind of an abandoned feel to it, which was so strange considering the historical draw it had. And the weather was freezing rain. Comfy!
But we did see some beautiful ruins! We walked under Porta Nigra- one of the four original gates to the city and built in 170 AD. We explored the massive complex of St. Peters, which is the oldest church in Germany and was commissioned by Constantine after he was converted to Christianity. The first building began in 270! We also found a cool little upstairs restaurant that was a satisfying discovery to end the evening.
-
The next day, Trier greeted us with a fender bender. Dented our car, but thankfully not the other persons. But we carried on, determined to see what Trier had whether it liked it or not!
Kaiserthermin began as an elaborately planned bathhouse, but it was later used as a barracks. Many of the below ground passageways still exist and have been excavated, so we got to explore the maze beneath the ground for a while.
Barbarathermin is the largest bath complex in the entire Roman Empire outside of Rome itself! They’re still unearthing parts of it today, so we observed the excavation sites from a metal walkway above.
Lastly, the gladiatorial amphitheater. It used to hold 20,000 spectators, and the rooms for holding the competitors are still intact and accessible. You can even go underneath and see where there used to be a lift up to the arena to bring up “set dressing” or to allow a dramatic entrance for a gladiator or some animals. Strange to explore a space that had so many horrific deaths inside it, and stranger still to say it was cool but… it was cool.
-
A successful weekend. I love packing travel into short spaces with you.

Title: A Fresh, Rightful Gust of Positivity Sweeps the World: A Happy Epistle from Earth, the Jubilant Dweller of the Universe
It's January 18th, 2024 - a radiant dawn cloaked in splendid morning mists beckoned yet another routine day. As mother Earth went about its ceaseless pirouettes around the sun, somewhere on her lovely emerald-blue face, she erupted in a jovial wink. This blink on her face rippled through each vein, river, every ruffling leaf, bustling city, twinkling constellation - reminding us earthlings, that our story was more than a weary chronicle. It was an intricate cosmic ballet replete with fortuitous joy.
A small nook in the cosmic timeline. The splendid banter with celestial friends, Universe and Milky Way, across light years' coffee table guffaws a hearty mirth that leaves sunspots in their wake - Earth often told her folks. If only we were good at space humour! So today, we human beings felt the waves of an exuberant whisper travel through us - 'Look around, isn't it incredible how far you have come?'
Shhh... if you press your ear against the world today, you'll hear an uproarious laughter echo across galaxies. Our cosmic ma, Earth, scored 93 on the ‘cosmic chuckles' index, and you could feel the Universe nudge our little planet playfully, 'good one!’
Yes, today is that day. The day that knocked the doomsday harbingers into absolute oblivion. An indescribably incredible event with cosmic proportions reverberated through every life pulsating on our beloved planet - establishing a day of global unity and compassion. An enigmatic melange of emotions overwhelmed every earthling - regardless of race, language, and geographical divide. We took a quiet minute to appreciate the new epoch we had entered, prompted by the untethered celebration of the Universe herself.
No, we did not become immortal today, neither did we make contact with any other worldly life form (they might have ignored our cosmic calls!), nor did our doleful glaciers rise back into pristine snowy beauty overnight. We stumbled onto a path better, richer and way more incredible – a subtle revolution was seeded in the deep pockets of our heart – The Harmonious Revolution!
We have collectively - without aggression or altercation - taken a decision to respect and love each other's perspectives. A light bulb of tolerance lit up worldwide. And suddenly, we no longer require voluminous rulebooks to foster peace; it was in us all along.
The peace treaty today didn’t bind countries. It linked hearts. Countries weren't giving into the imposition of rules; people were adopting love and understanding out of choice. An undivided language - respect, sprouted everywhere, uniting all. Harmony seemed our sole responsibility. Everyone on Earth celebrated their unique beliefs, choices, orientations, customs and preferences, together. Difference suddenly did not make any difference anymore!
Today, Earth bore the emblem of unanimous joy, sparking fresh stardust smiles in every dwelling and neighborhood. Today, the concept of Unity in Diversity changed from a compelling maxim into a universal truth, prompting each earthling to pen their unique verses in this enchanting anthology of humanity.
On January 18th, 2024, Earth beautifully revolutionized herself by recognizing the coexistence of varied thoughts, affirming that differences arent threats but intriguing shades of this cosmic pantomime.
So here we stand today - hearts beaming with newfound insight. A comical little civilization standing at the cusp of the grand celestial ballet. Lost amidst countless galaxies yet blissfully dancing our whimsical little twirl.
We all belong. We're all one. One planet, innumerable colours.
Thank you, Earth, for embracing us - different yet similar children of yours, equally. For now, more than ever, we celebrate life - it's not merely about surviving, it’s about cherishing and relishing our beautifully complex cosmic ballet. From this date onward, our human spirit echoes - ‘In our incredible, multifarious discord, lies our breathtaking harmony. So let’s rock this space gig together!'
