The Quest for a Name

I hope the wait was worth it loves!

February 25, 2023.

Harry. Melbourne, Australia. 12:30 PM.

The store was rather empty, which allowed me to browse and shop peacefully; Tommy and Jeff were finishing a call while I was browsing the children’s books hoping to find some to bring back home to my girls. My girls. I smiled when I thought about three of the most important women in my life back in England waiting for me to come home.

I ended up picking three books for the girls and started making my way to where Jeff and Tommy were waiting, along the way I got distracted and picked up some finger puppets for bedtime stories when suddenly someone cleared their throat behind me, when I turned, I smiled at the girl standing there, she was using my tote bag and had a nervous smile on her face.

There was something familiar of her, but I couldn’t quite place it, she gave me a tiny wave and shakily whispered, “H-hi Harry”, I smiled, “Hello, how are you?”, she smiled, “I’m good, still recovering from last night’s concert”, and it suddenly dawned on me why I knew her.

“Oh yeah! I remember you; you were with Fauve yeah?”, her eyes were full of wonder, and she smiled while nodding her head in excitement, “Yes! That was me! Oh my God, I can’t believe you remember us!”, I smiled, “Of course I do, what’s your name love?”, she smiled, “I’m Sienna”.

I smiled, “Sienna, I love your name, might just add it to my baby’s name list”, it suddenly dawned what I had said and stood up straighter, Sienna gave me a surprised look before making a sign that her lips were sealed, “You don’t have to worry, I won’t say anything, but congratulations! That is so exciting for you and Y/N”.

I gave her an appreciative nod, “Thank you, we’re really excited to add a new member to our family, and thank you for your discretion; are you attending any other shows?”, she nodded excitedly, “I am visiting my grandma in Auckland, so I will be attending that show and Sydney night two as well, I am so excited”, I smiled, “Well then, I will look for you in the crowd”.

She nodded excitedly before reaching into her bag for a notebook and a sharpie, “Would it be okay for me to ask for an autograph and selfie? I promise I won’t post or disclose it” I nodded and placed my books and shopping to sign her notebook and pose for her selfie. While she put away her stuff, I picked up my shopping and turned to give her a smile.

“Thank you, Harry, it really means a lot, and I wish you and Y/N a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery”, I nodded and placed a hand over my heart, “Thank you Sienna, and I’ll see you in Sidney and I hope to meet you again”, she waved goodbye while making her way to the teen novels and I made my way to the cashier to pay.

February 26, 2023.

Harry. Melbourne, Australia. 9:00 PM.

The call rang for a few moments before the dial changed and my little girl appeared in the screen, she had her hair pulled back with a tiny bow and her face was full of the remnants of her breakfast; yogurt which I knew was one of her favorites right now, when she noticed me, she smiled before screaming “Dada!”, I smiled, “Good morning little love, how are you? Are you eating breakfast?”

She pulled her hands to the screen so I could see the mess she was making, I gave her a surprised look so she would know I was paying attention to her, “Look at those hands! Did you have a banana?”, my smile got bigger when I heard my baby mama outside from the screen, “Say ‘no dada, today I ate peaches!’ Can you say peaches baby?”

Pippa turned to see her mom and gave her a cheeky smile before she said “Pea!”, I smiled before cheering “There you go baby! Good job!”, a few seconds later the screen moved, and I was able to see Y/N sitting there too, I smiled when I saw her reach and caress her bump, “Hi baby, you look so beautiful!”, she smiled and looked down bashfully.

“Oh you flatterer, I feel anything but”, I gave her a sympathetic smile, “How is everything going?”, she sighed, “Nights are getting to an uncomfortable point, but the pregnancy pillow and I are dating now”, I laughed, “I hope you will want to cuddle me once I’m home”, she nodded, “I will baby, I miss you so much”

I smiled before clearing my throat, “So… I thought of another name, well actually I met a fan with this name”, she took a bite of her breakfast before speaking, “Oh really? What is it?”, I smiled, “Sienna”, she swallowed before analyzing the name I told her, “Sienna Anne Styles?”, I nodded, “Well the initials would be cool huh?”

I laughed a little and smiled while at eating her eggs, Y/N spoke up, “I also thought of another name”, I yawned and signaled for her to tell me, “Amelia, and her nickname could be Millie Anne”, I smiled, “I am liking the nickname, Pip and Millie”, she laughed, “Aww that is so sweet”, I decided to tease her.

“So… is Deborah or still off the table?”, she shook her head while she laughed, “If you love it, then we can think of using it baby”, I laughed, “Nah, she deserves a unique name, just like Pippa, and we still have a few weeks to decide, yes? Let’s not forget we decided on Pippa’s name about two days before she was born”, she laughed.

“If I remember correctly, we were set on Ophelia, you even sang the song to the belly as a way to see if the baby was a she”, I nodded before speaking, “But then I read Philippa in a novel and fell in love with it”, she took a sip of her tea while cleaning Pippa’s mouth and smiled, “I remember, when you told me her name, there was something there, like a feeling of peace, of contentment, like ‘that is her name’”

I smiled, “I felt the same way, all warm and fuzzy and excited; and truth be told, none of the names we have discussed have given me that feeling, but I know we will find the name”, she nodded while pulling Pippa out of her chair and settling her on her lap, “Say bye bye to Dada baby”, Pippa smiled before pulling the phone to her face, “Dada bye!”, I laughed, “Bye baby, I love you!”

Pippa gave the phone back to Y/N and I heard her scurry to the living room where we had settled her toys right before I left, I yawned again and Y/N gave me a smile, “You should rest baby, you still have a few crazy days to come”, I nodded, “Before I go, can I see the belly?”

She nodded and smiled setting the phone on the breakfast table before pulling back a little and pulling up her pajama shirt, my heart was beating so fast from the excitement, “Look at that beautiful belly! Oh, she’s growing up so fast!”, she laughed, “Oh yes, she is definitely, oh-wait!” She sat down and grabbed the phone again turning the camera.

After a few seconds and a couple of presses to the side of the belly I saw a knee or elbow rolling around and I smiled, “Oh I miss feeling her move so much”, she laughed, “You’ll still have about four weeks of feeling her once you’re here baby”, I nodded, “And I will have a birthday celebration to make up for”, she nodded, “Rest well baby, we love you and miss you, so so much”, I smiled, “I miss you two too baby, speak tomorrow”, she nodded while blowing a kiss to her screen while I did the same, then waved goodbye and ended the call.

New Zealand 2022: Christchurch

Christchurch was so much smaller and quieter than I had expected, especially having lived in Melbourne for years. It felt very much to me like a big town than a city, resembling Ballarat or Bendigo in Australia, but with its unique charms, of course.

We visited the Tannery (Yes I've posted this spread inspired by the vibes there before, so this is a re-post), a quaint shopping area with beautiful boutiques and vintage shops. Most of the time however, we were around the Riverside Market, trying the local produce or just enjoying the vibes of the place.

Christchurch Botanic Gardens was definitely a highlight, with flowers I've never seen before, massive trees, beautiful water features and charming rose gardens. I enjoyed Christchurch Botanic Gardens more than the one in Auckland, although the weather probably played a big part! The curated experience of the two gardens were very different though, so it's probably not a fair comparison. But I'd definitely recommend all three areas to anyone visiting Christchurch.

Chapter 1

The cold is something Anders isn't used to, or something he'd ever wanted to get used to. He's been looking for that stupid Yggdrasil stick for a long time now and he would be downplaying it if he said he was tired, he hates it in Norway; they only eat fish and the air feels like being tackled by a snow giant and the chicks only wear pants. He's fucking sick of it that's what it is, the month of december is Anders´s least favorite and here where he can only speak to a few English speakers; he feels just as lonely as he did in Auckland except it's harder to get into someone's pants to forget about it; not to mention the afterlife effort he has to put in to maintain his dick interested and not freeze and break off his body.

He finds a promising lead on accident while shopping for alcohol after another month of speaking to useless tourist baiters; the shop owner tells him about a forest back in the least populated regions of Norway and explains in poor English (better than Anders's absolutely UNACCEPTABLE Norwegian) that most people are scared to go into this place; thorns; dead flowers and broken three trunks line the path of whoever dares enter and no one ever comes out; especially around this time of year; he says.

It's ominous and terrifying but better than nothing, and so the blonde sets off for yet another trip to an unknown part of a country he doesn't belong to.

The end of this trip and the idea that he'll find that stupid stick becomes far more and more plausible to Anders when he tries to hire a guide and no one will go with him; not even for twice or triple what they charge and even when he tries to Bragi a poor bastard into going inside all he gets it's the man to drive him close enough; he drops him off in a town called Førresfjorden; beautiful, covered in snow and surrounded by miles and miles of freezing cold, unforgiving sea; he gets it.

The blonde has gotten tired of staring at the views if he's honest. The people there treat him nicely and lead him to the beginning of a forest, again, just pointing fingers, and as the people get sparse; the more suspicious and even pitiful looks they give Anders.

He finds his way through the last of the pavemented roads and to a very suspicious looking sign that poorly (with the water damage and plants growing near it) reads "her ligger den grønne" pointing to the tip of the forest; he thinks about pulling out his phone and translating whatever it is that the sign says but he's far more preoccupied with getting out of there and he ventures into the snow covered woods, the shadows of the three lines make it look like the grass is darker on the inside of the forest but the blonde tells himself that's impossible. The woods go for miles and miles; and he feels like he's walked for hours yet the three line and the pavement are just as close as they where at first; the mud makes it hard for him to lift his feet off the ground and the tips of his fingers are so cold it hurts him to move them “fucks sake” he mumbles as he trips over a three root that surges from the ground; barely catching himself on a three trunk and getting a cut right to the middle of his hand, his gloves didn’t help much and the stinging pain is almost as bad as the print of his bloody hand that somehow remains; sticking out like a sign inside this green and white dome; vibrant and minacious like trying to tell Anders (with his own blood) that he should turn back around. He shudders in disgust; he really does hate blood; but he’d rather see it than die of an infection so he ties his hand with a piece of rag that squishes blood drops out of it; calling the attention of something in the woods as Anders keeps walking.

It’s definitely been a few hours (or at least it feels like that thanks to the general darkness that accompanies the forest) when he stops walking again; afraid he's gotten lost and too tired to move, he takes a second to sit in the nearest rock; somehow drier and not covered in moss like the rest; his hand stings and his stomach growls announcing to anders that he should have had breakfast.

he huffs out annoyed mumbling to himself “not now” looking up at the sky and rolling his back to ease the tension, he finally notices the tree lines stop like in a pattern; a circle where nothing grows; not even grass and the threes are so tall that it looks like its night even tho Anders's watch marks 2 pm; he gets up carefully from the rock; inspecting his wrinkled map and huffing confused; he makes a small turn in his own place trying to understand where he came from; then he waits for a sign of some sorts; maybe a stream or a bird, the silence hits him so hard it is scary; every step reverberates thru the clearing and every breath out of his mouth is like a scream drowned in the wind; he'd think it was somewhat peaceful if it wasn't because that second it hits him

He's lost

Oh so terribly lost; no signal on his phone, no guide, and his map doesn't even show that part of the forest since no one dares enter; he tries to turn back to where he started but no matter which route he takes he always ends up in the same place right in the middle of the circle of..well nothing. He makes a desperate attempt to call for help but his voice gets drowned by the threes; the wind, an unprecedented wind by the way; that the blonde has no idea where it came from or how could it even pass thru the neatly (way to neat) and tightly arranged threes starts to hit him from both sides as he runs around yelling for help; the wind blows on his ears and even starts to push him; lifting leaves and sticks of the ground making it difficult for Anders to see anything but dark green and the snow that circles him menacingly; he puts his hands crossed over in front of him as to not get hit by anything in the face; growing more desperate

“Stop; Stop it. Now!” He yells to the air, not sure what else to do. The tremor in his voice makes it hard to get Bragi’s words out but the wind stops altogether; finally allowing the blonde to open his eyes to what he feels is a poor tasted prank. When he finally puts his hands down; he’s in a different forest; the leaves are all light green and the flowers blossom around him in a tapestry of colors; the sun beams bright making him squint his eyes, mildly grateful for the heat but knowing damn well it wasn't this warm a second ago he looks around confused;; the circle of threes, the rick and the center of dead dirt are nowhere to be seen; now it's just him and the flowers; the grass up to his knees and a small waterfall that leads to a stream.

He is SO fucking lost, no doubt.

Getting my bearings

Okay please do not expect me to keep up this rate of posting on here because I do not intend to but I just have SO MUCH NEW STUFF TO SHARE RIGHT NOW

It feels like I've been here for two whole weeks already, with how much I've been up to. I've seen the local shopping district (blown away by the caliber of the thrift shops here, I am living for it), gotten in a (minor, no worries) car accident, gone to that board game night (played Viticulture, cool but not entirely my thing) and most of the administrative process has been taken care of by now, which means:

a local phone number: much needed to get around if you want future employers to be able to reach you. I have a dual SIM phone but I've taken my Dutch SIM out anyway, because the rates are staggeringly high: 254 cents per minute of outgoing or incoming calls, 51 cents per text message and 500 cents per MB(!) of data. No thank you. I do still want to keep my Dutch number so I've just downgraded my plan to the bare minimum to save some costs.

a local bank account: it took some back-and-forth, but now I'm officially banking with Kiwibank :) I chose them for their omnipresence, and because I'd read online that they're one of the more sustainable and inclusive options out here.

a local tax ID: is on the way, this is necessary for NZ and NL to communicate about my income and any taxes that apply.

an actual job: working on it, printing CVs tomorrow but I also managed to get my hands on a beautiful guitar so busking is now officially on the table!

The time I wasn't working on these things, I spent out and about, enjoying the views and the culture shock. Yesterday's highlight was Zealandia: a 255 ha wildlife sanctuary that sits right on the fold line where two tectonic plates meet. It's home to many a species of birds, reptiles and plants, some of them endangered, and offers some killer views:

Not to be confused with a regular ol' penguin. Seemed very chill

The Takahē / Porphyrio hochstetteri

Very sleepy, and the most reminiscent of its undoubtedly dinosaur ancestors. Also clearly a menace to keep inside its designated area:

The Kākā / Nestor meridionalis septentrionalis​

According to the volunteer park guide who was kind enough to give us a talk about them on her time off, the park started out with 14 of these back in 2002. At the time the Kākā hadn't been living in the Wellington area for over 100 years. Since then, over 1000 new Kākā chicks have been born in the sanctuary due to their tremendous efforts to protect these intelligent birds. The feeders they put out for them require them to step on a little pedal to lift the lid and access the food. They've done experiments with them where they put a little wooden block under the pedal to block it, and the young ones quickly learned to remove it to regain access. They've also suspended food from pieces of string hanging from the branches to see what they would do, since Kākā are unable to hover. Even this they managed to solve by sitting on the branch and pulling up the string until they could reach the food. They look like they're having great fun, hanging upside down from branches and being real acrobats in the trees as well as the air 😍

I'm definitely visiting this place again when I have the chance, because there's a lot more of the park to explore!

My current plan is to stay here in Te Whanganui-a-tara until the beginning of April. Then I can catch a ride up to Hobbiton and then Tāmaki-makau-rau (aka Auckland), after which I'll travel back down, in order to visit the South Island in May, most likely! So for now my focus will be on saving up some money and enjoying the wonderful weather while it lasts 🌞

You cannot miss the beautiful sceneries while in Auckland. 4.    The War Memorial Museum: It is located in the domain inside a building that dates back to 1929. You will find several artifacts from the past sitting here. You will see the beautiful history of the different wars and even traces of the things that happened. You might get a glimpse into the weapons used during the wars. The history into the aborigines and Polynesian settlers is also available for view in this museum. It also show the glorious history of New Zealand. You should definitely visit the museum if you are planning a campervan rental Auckland trip. 5.    One Tree Hill: This is a volcanic region, and one that you cannot avoid when in New Zealand. It is inside the Cornwall Park, which is covered with flowers and trees. Apart from the green park, you will find several remnants of Maori Pa in this park. You will also step into the stardome observatory while here. 6.    The Art Gallery: If you love art and want to see some of the magnificent pieces, you should step into the art gallery of Auckland. It houses the distinctive culture of the land. You will find artworks spanning from centuries and countries in this limited space. It is a treat for your eyes. Statement

A buck and a vision, is my attempt at recreating my childhood growing up in Otahuhu South Auckland, Through photographs. A lot comes into mind when I think about this particular area I call home. Home comes with a whole lot of characters and personalities like dealers, doctors, hustlers and dreamers. And although the inevitable impact of gentrification has changed some aspects of this place, I want to document what was left of it and tell its stories through a photograph. Visually I want to take the audience on a tour around my “HOME” truthfully through these photographs. Let them view it from the eyes of someone who's lived there their whole life,  And not listen to these media reporters who show up when shit hits the curb.

Book opens up two locations that are notorious to Otahuhu, the monument of Charles Fergusson. AKA “the horse” and the Rec-center AKA “Ota-Hoops”, Names the locals call these spots. These areas played a huge part of my childhood and have shaped the very man that I am today. Especially the Rec-center, a place that I can go to with a few of my mates and shoot hoops late at night without worrying about anything.  

Then followed by a dairy on “High street” and the bro “Ravi”, People like these in South Auckland who get to witness the growth of kids into youth are the unsung heroes of any area. Along with every local self-runned business owner in the hood. I'm certain you can ask them and they can point out which kids grew up around locally and who didn't, and that's something special.    

The next set of photographs is showcasing Otahuhu in the night. I opted to go for the night to showcase its beauty, The Train Station, Otahuhu Shopping Strip and the Recreational Center. Also there is this real calmness about documenting this busy street while it's sleeping. The Lighting and emptiness of the streets is just so captivating.  

Seaside where I currently reside is the bright side of Otahuhu. Quite a nice little neighborhood, I say bright side because it's the east side of my childhood and would always joke around saying that that's where the sun shines first. But with all honesty I believe with my heart that Otahuhu as a whole is the real bright side.

“Struggle and the Hustle” a phase that literally some of the locals live by. Hustle definition via urban dictionary “To strive headstrong and voraciously towards a goal”. Second part of this book series is the hustle lifestyle of my people. I wanted to document this side of my home purely because it's as real as it gets. Many have mixed opinions on what South Auckland is like, In spite of all that, We as a community have always not given a shit about articles and what they call us. And that’s what I want the world to see through these photographs.    

Chapter two opens up with a photograph of an old “T-house” tinny house, Metaphor for a piece of Tin foil that contains Marijana that dealers run. Following are photographs of a few very close childhood friends of mine, Who in my own words are the epitome of the term Hustle. Just boys who are looking to earn their cut and to cater for families, And make the most of what life has offered them this far, legally or illegally.

Last two photographs are of the blue night skies of otablu. Father always told my siblings and I, Growing up that “if we look up and see stars in the night skies, then everything ain't as bad as they seem no matter where you are in the world”.  Lessons that i'll cherish this whole lifetime,  

I guess for me, personally I want my photographs to be an archive of my area's beauty along with the rough, rugged and raw aspects there is to the lifestyle of an ordinary South Aucklander. In terms of portrayal I want to State that in this little part of South Auckland which is called Otahuhu also known as Otablu. Locals all have one objective in mind and that's providing whether it's legal or illegal. Hustle knows no rules and struggle is cruel, It's the world we live in and that's why documenting this certain subject for me is quite an honor, Although this is only an assessment and will have no physical and financial impact on my home, i feel like i’ve done my best at trying to document “the hood”.

Undoubtedly moving forward as a photographer I’ll love to continue this body of work on to more of the other South Auckland suburbs. Also exploring their very own stories and finding their voices through my love and passion for photography. This is my “a buck and a vision”.

yeseul is the youngest of five. before she was born, her father cheated on her mother which resulted to her half older sister, chaeyeon. despite having no relation to chaeyeon, yeseul’s mother took her in and treated her as her own daughter. 

yeseul was the result of her parents attempting to become a family once more after the infidelity. 

her family moved to australia shortly after she was born.

when she was just five, her older brother yejoon moved back to melbourne with their mother’s side of the family under an “education program” that was “sponsored” by her family's church. 

as a child, yeseul was often the target of bullying in school.

at the age of nine, she is abducted and separated from her family while watching a movie. unbeknownst to her, both her father and mother are murdered the same night. 

she is abducted by a couple who works for holy salvation society, raised as their own and pays big money to manipulate and repress her memories from the past. during the process, yeseul began to see multiple hypnotists working closely with the church that plotted her abduction.

because of yeseul's outgoing personality as a child coupled with her beauty, the married pair that held her captive began to plot with holy salvation in ways to use her as a "cash cow" in the future. this was when they came with a plot to push her into stardom from a very early age. initially, they wanted to push her into the limelight and into being a musician. ultimately, that plan was scratched. 

her new family moved to seoul a year later and yeseul's name was immediately changed legally. in their new city, yeseul was suddenly known as ‘arianne’ with the korean name ‘yang hanbyul.’ 

arianne possesses no knowledge about her real birth name, birth parents, older brother or half older sister. flashes and glimpses of old memories often resurface in her dreams but she would often just think of these visions as daydreams she's made up in her head.

despite it all, arianne thinks and believes that her adoptive parents are her biological parents. she grew up a filial child and for the most part, followed and obeyed her parents' wishes.
