Kicking things off with a little scene from 4x18 that I've had saved in my drafts for months, in the spirit of some of us rewatching the season 4 finale on Monday :)

“Don’t,” he mutters harshly, the second he sees movement out of the corner of his eye.

“Carlos,” TK practically whimpers.

Carlos looks at him. Tk’s eyes are bright and sparkling with tears. He presses his lips together and squeezes his eyes shut, dropping his chin as tears drip down off his own face and fall to the floor.

TK whispers, “Baby.”

Carlos shakes his head. TK’s been calling him that for so long. Carlos has loved it every time and strived to be worthy of it, and right now it’s like nails on a chalkboard. He'll never hear Carlitos or mijo in his father's deep timbre again.

Suddenly TK is in front of him, hands touching his biceps and then arms being tossed around his neck, pulling him into a hug. The dam completely shatters; Carlos’s shoulders shake as his body is wracked with violet sobs. He grasps helplessly at the back of TK’s shirt, clutching him, keeping TK close because without him to lean on Carlos thinks he would be in a heap on the concrete floor along with his tears.

“I know,” TK murmurs, stroking his hair, his cheek, the back of his neck.

“I don’t know what to do,” Carlos forces out as another flood of tears soaks TK’s shirt.

“Nothing. You don’t need to do anything, baby, you just …” TK cups his cheek, gently nudges Carlos’s head up so their blurry eyes can meet.

TK’s are red rimmed and his cheeks are blotchy, and Carlos is sure his own face is covered in mucus and wetness and shame. He aches down to the marrow of his bones with the fact that he can’t ever remember his father being sweet and silly with him. Carlos would give everything – every penny in his bank account, anything else the universe wanted to steal from him – to replace his memories of years of quiet disapproval and unspoken disappointment with the version of his father who spoke in a terrible Australian accent to make Carlos laugh. He wants to buy a fireproof safe to keep that VHS tape in so that he can watch it every day for the rest of his life, and he wants to drop it onto the sidewalk outside and smash it to bits with a hammer so he never has to watch it again.

He wonders when it stopped, when Gabriel turned stoic and serious and withholding. He wonders if it was all in his head, if he can’t even trust his own memories because they’ve been warped and twisted by too many years of his own insecurity – everyone is so insistent that his father loved him, so maybe Carlos is the problem, if he can’t seem to remember a time when that felt true. Maybe he wasted the only years he’d ever get on pride and stubborn arrogance, and now his papá is gone.

“Do you remember the night my mom died?” TK asks.

Carlos nods miserably. Neither of them will be at their wedding. The thought scrapes away at his insides.

“We sat right there, right on that couch, and you held me while I sobbed. That’s what we should do.”

“It won’t make anything better.”

“No. It won’t.” TK kisses the damp side of his face. “But neither will anything else, right now. So just let me be with you while it sucks. We’re soulmates, remember?”

The word unzips Carlos even further and he feels his face crumpling, tipping forward so his forehead bumps painfully into his fiancés.

“Say it,” TK urges gently.

“You’re my soulmate,” Carlos repeats, the words feeling monotonous and not tasting as sweet as they should.

“You’re the love of my life. I’m so heartbroken that you’re hurting this much. I can’t take it away but I can hold you. Please let me.”

Adding on to that last NSR x Spiderverse ask with the powers and whatnots:

Maybe Miles' invisibility powers come from the Morales side of his family (aka his mom) and the color/spray paint powers come from the Jefferson side of his family (aka his dad and uncle)

Ties in nicely with his whole arc of being the best of them all and how family is what makes Miles strong

also concept: (totally not canon at all) Eve and Pav being distant relatives, hence the powerful mind powers both have

... Pav with the "Diva's realm" powers? Eve's whole theme with that is something akin to Hindu Mythology and Pav has white tusks on his mask that represent Ganesha! Ganesha is the four-armed, elephant-headed god of removing obstacles and bringing in good luck, something Pavitr is definitely good at

Oh neat! That would be a good idea! I was honestly thinking of Miles having only paint powers that he uses to look invisible, think like Randall from Monsters Inc.

Honestly, what if that was still the case. Like, Miles' maternal family can turn invisible but he can't. He only got his paint powers from his paternal side, but he learned how to "turn invisible" through camouflage to try and make his mom happy. The whole family thinks he has invisibility powers, but in reality he only has the paint powers.

That would kinda relate back to his OG story as Spiderman, having to lie to his parents. Though instead of lying to keep them safe, he's lying to keep them happy. Plus in both situations he's lying so they will keep loving him.

It's also plays into the opposite roles I feel of which parent he is lying for the most. Like in the OG, I think Miles is more willing to come out as Spiderman to his mom since she seems a lot more accepting of Miles overall and also isn't a cop that is hunting down Spiderman. In this AU though, his father would be the one he would come out to of not having invisibility powers because he is afraid to upset his mom and just doesn't know how to tell her.

Onto Pav and Eve now! I do personally like the idea of Pav being like a cousin to Eve (and by extension Remi). I'm of the opinion that Eve got her powers from her mom, and since Remi is born from Eve's dad that means he doesn't have any powers and that Pav would be from Eve's maternal side of the family.

Imagine how siked (psyched?) Pav would be to learn that not only one of his cousins, but two of them, are famous music artists! He would be so happy to learn that just because it is cool. He wouldn't try to get any clout from it, he doesn't seem like that kind of guy, but you better believe he would be very proud of them.

Which also brings into question what exactly this NSR x Spiderverse AU really is lol. Is it an AU where the Spiderverse people take over the roles of the NSR cast, or is it the Spiderverse people are just in the NSR universe as well (then there's also the NSR cast being Spider people, but that's not related to this ask lol).

In the first case, Pav would not be related to Eve because Eve would not exist in this AU. While in the second case it would work because, well, Eve is there. It really just depends on what AU people want to talk about because I can see the appeal in both versions! I actually really like the idea of both casts in the NSR universe with some Spider people elements, but having the Spiderpeople take over the roles of the NSR cast is also a really good idea!

[Also, kinda off topic, but not really. Would having Eve and Pav related be problematic at all? It kinda feels like it might be going into the territory where people ask "you are of _____ race so are you related to ____ of same race?" Which isn't a good thing. Asking legitimately since I don't know if this is actually a problem or if I am just overthinking this way too much].

“You danced with the High Councillor earlier,” you say, like a fucking fool.

They wave a hand, their many bracelets clinking together with the movement. “You know that one doesn't count.”

Something inside you hums in petty satisfaction.

“Uh,” you say rather intelligently, your cheeks, ears, hands hopefully less on fire than they feel. There’s a horrible pause when you can’t figure out whether you should say yes or alright or fucking finally, but then you decide on, “Okay.”

“Okay?” Kallias parrots back, grinning freely. They offer you their hand.

You stop with your hand hovering just above theirs. You swallow thickly. “I, uh—I might be hot right now.”

Kallias laughs the way they do when they're about to knowingly make a bad joke. They press your palms together, folding their fingers over yours, and tug you towards the dance floor. “You always are, sunshine.”

Honestly, it's a comment. Yesterday they fueled the fire a LOT, there's a chance that the media team just decided that was too much too soon because it does give the impression that they are confirming they are in fact fueling the fire using ryliver and after sitting on it for a while they might've realized it was too much and decided to backtrack. It's more about promotion strategy and fear of crossing a line while confirming something more than anything, in my opinion. Especially because the comment they replied to was "you know what you are doing and I love you for it".

uhh okay I just have to get this out before i explode because it has been bouncing around my head so uh um what if Professor Layton was French and took place in France? Please please please dump everything on us I want to hear the lore and nuance of French Layton; whose names change, what are they like now, how does the story change because it’s Paris and not London (assuming because capital cities), that kind of stuff.

Maybe change Luke’s name to Luc or something. Not sure about Hershel Layton, though. Speaking of which I know Layton always says things remind him of a puzzle so I’d imagine he instead says ce me rappelle un puzzle and then when Luc solves a puzzle he says je l‘ai résolu, professeur!!!

Then there’s Clive “je préfère y penser comme la justice” Colombe (changed his surname there) because Guilluame Faucons blew up his parents or whatever

Rereading this I asked for the nuances of French Layton and then thought too much into it myself. whoops.

this started because i was thinking about slavic professor layton and somehow moved from prague to paris lol

And I am repeating myself but your French is amazing, Luke DOES say that kfjbhefhkb (Also you found such great names so fast how did you do that ??) I am going to focus on the French Adaptation idea (hence the screenshot) ! =) I think I will talk about actual French Unwound Future eventually, but it'll be its own separate post. I simply MUST focus on this first, like the potential and sheer fun of it ? I have IDEAS.

Starting with the names !!

Hershel Layton : Definitely changing Layton, I guess Léton could work ? (Little reference to French BD Les Légendaires lol) Landon is very cool tho, it reminds me of London too ! For the first name you and a friend of mine suggested Herbert, which is a great idea but I'm not too sure about losing the Yiddish etymology :( Hershel could stay I guess. I did play with Léon Léton for a moment (Léon is French equivalent for Yiddish name Lejb + we keep the animal etymology) but it sounds really terrible lol, so up to you !!

Luke Triton : You're absolutely right he would be Luc Triton !! Middle name is most definitely something like Richard lol

Flora Reinhold : Definitely agree with Flore ! Reinhold is hard because it's Renaud in French but like,,, Renaud has CONNOTATIONS. (There is a French singer called that way and people often make fun of him). Soooo same friend came up with Flore de Raynald. Looking back, I'm not sure about the "ay" ? Anyway, I added the "de" because French people used to have one in their names if they were rich/noble !!

Clive Dove : Okay. Bear with me. Bear with me please. But Nicolas Colombe. Like you said, Dove = Colombe. But Clive doesn't have any equivalent in French : you suggested Clovis and I think it really is the best, most logical option (it does make him look like a 5th century king but also Clive is like that lol) !! However I did remember that Clive's Japanese name is Klaus, and Klaus is strictly equal to Nicolas in French. So yeah idk, Nicolas Colombe sounds like a Miraculous Ladybug name lol

Bill Hawks : You're 100% right, this is our premier ministre Guillaume Faucon. =)

Dimitri Allen : We had also come up with Dimitri Alain (it's either that or pronouncing it Allant, which is just ugly lol) so perfect !!

Claire Foley : I'll be honest I don't even know how Foley is supposed to be pronounced…? But it has something to do with sound in filmmaking apparently, so you know. Claire Echo or something

That's it for the names !! Now I simply NEED to talk about something really really cool- the setting. Why that you may ask ? Because there actually are caves underneath Paris, and they're not just any caves. (They're magic caves- alright sorry ijfginknf)

So yeah the caves under Paris are not huge oval caves like the one in Unwound Future, it's more like a series of corridors that go deep under the whole city. Also it is HUGE, like only 0,5% is open to visitors and this is already 1,7km/1,1 mile !! The best part ?? This 0,5%. It's actually an ossuary (Known as Les Catacombes de Paris). This place is very popular, people love to go there, and it's already been the setting of many many books- so why not you know ? Even though I know you couldn't/shouldn't build a mecha there (no room for it and you'd be destroying a real 18th century monument) + this doesn't really look like the future lol

But you could TOTALLY adapt the story so that Layton and Luc have to go to the Catacombs and then you have a sick setting and you could have booby traps, a not-so-subtle-but-very-cool life or death mood, and above all. You can have Clive being a madman spending all of his time six feet under in the catacombs. Gloomy. Upsetting ? Fun !!

Also the mecha should totally be on that stupid island in the middle of Paris. That or you replace the lighthouse by the Eiffel Tower.
