It's crazy to me how a lot of us collectively hate Hollywood's feminist movies and how they portray the subject in very offensive ways, and just how they're plain badly written. Then we go on a streak and say ' all feminist movies are garbage'

Then a lot of us collectively love Barbie despite that also being 'a feminist movie'. To the point where it's actively defended. (Keep in mind I said 'a lot' not 'everyone') It's really funny to me, but I think it's also deserved. Cause maybe the code to making people like your movie is have it be entertaining and well written.

Seriously, I'm a woman who thinks 90% of feminist movies are garbage. (There's a difference between 'feminist' and 'a girl is the mc' so you know. Huge difference.) I was not gonna see this movie at first. 1) I was only a casual Barbie person and that was years ago. 2) The trailers made me think 'it's gonna be another cringefest trying to sell something popular, like Cat in the Hat'. 3) I heard people hating the movie because it's feminist, and I went 'oh so it's bad. That makes sense' Without actually seeing it for myself.

But then the other day my family, my GF, and her family, watched the movie together. We ranged from 'it's weird and different' to 'we loved it'. I loved it. This might actually be my favorite movie of the year so far.

Why is that? What did Barbie do that worked so well that none of these other movies are doing? Very curious to hear other people's takes on this.

I have a strict no-AI policy because if you use AI to write your essays for a writing course it’s literally plagiarism because you didn’t write it and you’re not learning any of the things the course teaches if you just plug a prompt into the plagiarism generator that kills the environment, hope this helps!

i went to get my t-shot yesterday and it took me an hour and a half to get to the clinic and as soon as i got on the bed the nurse dropped my t-shot and it broke and now they're trying to make me pay for the replacement. i think the fuck not lmao

the steven universe hate is insane bc people are (or at least were) more upset that fictional war criminals got fictional hugs than they recognize that it singlehandedly advanced queer rep in children's media by lightyears and then straight up ate heavy retaliation for the nerve.

It does have real flaws that are worth discussing, but it also put their male protagonist in dresses and skirts and played it straight and even empowering, they aired a lesbian wedding on television, it was a genuinely queer, genuinely diverse piece of media through and through. It did a lot of real good for the real world.

But also the fictional characters caused fictional harm to other fictional characters, and didn't get an onscreen firing squad sentence. So, you know, it's basically ontologically evil in real life.
