It appears that Goose here is reading from a different fandom today: Fallout 4! I've been playing FO4 more recently and got the itch to write in the world again.
Thanks for the reminder, @therealgchu!
First bit follows follows the intro to the game with my Sole Survivor, Dawn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dawn thought her troubles were over. Her older sister, Nora, had completed law school and passed the bar first try. Her husband, Nate, was home from his tour in Alaska. They’d scored that nice new home in Sanctuary Hills on the outskirts of Boston and had a bouncing bundle of joy, Shaun. Living with them meant no longer having to listen to their mother nag her over not having a steady job and downplaying her military service to everyone in earshot. Instead Nate was trying to help her by talking with some of his old war buddies to see if anyone needed workers with her keen senses. Codsworth, the Mr. Handy Nate bought to help around the house, meant Dawn wasn’t stuck playing maid and nanny for them. Things were finally looking up.
Then that damn news broadcast started. Nora was downtown when the news hit that bombs had been dropped over several major cities. She called the house, yelling for Nate to take Dawn to the vault with him, to lie, to save her sister, before hanging up the phone. He didn’t argue, dragging her up the dirt path with Shaun in his arm, claiming she was Nora Melnik, and then hurrying to the elevator for the vault.
Dawn didn’t want to go. Nate dragged her because she tried to get away from him, to run for cover elsewhere. She knew one of his neighbors had a root cellar and wanted to try her luck getting let in there over getting trapped in a vault. Every time one of those damned advertisements played it made her skin crawl. Could never quite put her finger on why, only that it sounded too good to be true. How could they guarantee people would get inside in time? Wasn’t it convenient that every ‘lucky’ resident for vault 111 lived in Sanctuary Hills?
As the elevator dropped and the shield door slammed shut Dawn felt her stomach hit the bottom of the shaft. She swore she could feel the heat from the blast and everyone heard the deafening boom as they raced for the bottom. Nora was downtown. There was no way she made it to safety in time. Her sister was gone.
Nate calmed Shaun and stopped Dawn before they ascended the stairs to enter the vault proper, “I know what your thinking and stop.”
“This wasn’t my place,” she whispered back, “this isn’t fair.”
“It’s what she wanted,” Nate reminded her, “she took time to call.”
“Would you have left me with Codsworth?”
“No,” Nate shook his head, “I would have thrown you over my shoulder if I had to…”
“No wonder she calls you Grognak,” Dawn shook her head.
“All right everyone,” one of the lab coat wearing employees called out, “I know everyone is overwhelmed but if you could please make your way into the vault so we can get everyone acclimated and ready to descend further, it would be greatly appreciated.”
“Further down?” Dawn asked the employee, “How far down is the actual vault?”
“A few more levels,” the lab coat said with some hesitation, “first everyone needs to get changed and cleansed of any radiation you might have sustained on your journey down.
Dawn did her best to hide her reaction. None of that made sense. That wasn’t how radiation worked, for one. For another, his hesitation spoke volumes; this man wasn’t prepared for such questions, he was prepared for civilians too overwhelmed to speak. She glanced to Nate as they approached the metal steps and motioned for him to lean in. Once he did she whispered low enough that only they could here,
“something is wrong.”
“Gut feeling or…”
“I’ve met cagey fuckers like him before, during my service, and his type can’t be trusted. Something is wrong.”
Nate nodded and looked to Shaun, “noted.”
They made their way through the scanners and accepted their vault suits, which looked ridiculously tight compared the ones seen in the ads and commercials. As she slipped it on, leaving her street clothes in the changing room as instructed, she noted they were skin tight, with sensors places around the body. She’d worn something similar under her BDUs and field disguises alike, as a way for her handler to check her vitals. There was no reason for those sensors to be in a daily wear jumpsuit in the vault.
She met up with Nate and Shaun in a room at the end of the hall lined with large pods. Everyone was being instructed to climb inside before heading deeper into the vault. She wanted to talk to her brother-in-law once more but the lab coats all but forbade it, nearly shoving her into her pod. Every part of her brain screamed to run but there was no where to go and even if she managed to reverse the lift and go back to the surface, there was nothing to go back to anymore.
As the edges of the small window on the door of the pod began to freeze and her body started to succumb to the cold and sudden need for sleep she had a fleeting thought: This is wrong.

i’ve been playing through the mass effect series recently, and while i LOVE it and can definitely see where fo4 gets a lot of its inspiration from, i can’t help but appreciate the pros of the relationship system in fo4.
in the mass effect series, you’re locked out of several scenes and content if you don’t romance a character. you miss out on some character development as well. this carries the unfortunate implication that romantic relationships are superior to platonic ones.
in fallout 4, romanceable characters’ paths branch off into two equally important directions: platonic or romantic. you get their whole character arc and/or personal quest regardless. both the platonic and romantic ends have equal importance and require the same amount of affinity points.
in the mass effect series, romantic relationships feel extremely rigid. to lock yourself into a romance, you’re usually forced to express direct interest in a relationship early on before a strong dynamic is even established. the only exceptions to this are romances added in later games to characters from earlier games you are already close with (garrus and tali come to mind, which is why i’m not surprised they’re often regarded to as some of the better romances in the series).
in fallout 4, you can flirt with your companion in their second and third affinity conversations, thus upping your chances of successfully romancing them in their final affinity conversation. this gives the romances decent build up and make them feel less out of no where. additionally, you can fail charisma checks. your companions can reject you. it makes them feel more real.
in the mass effect series, your choices only affect a small select few of your romantic prospects (samara comes to mind). for most of them, going paragon or renegade has absolutely no effect on anything.
in fallout 4, companions will break up with you if they feel you’ve been acting against their moral code too much. additionally, if you do this too much, companions will just straight up stop being your companion forever.
do not get me wrong, there are many things mass effect does better (character loyalty affecting the outcome of the plot, more cinematic scenes, ease of befriending several companions), but it’s nice to be able to reflect back on the things fallout 4 did well, but i just never really thought about before!

Hey Kami, what do you think Mayor McDonough's first name was? Some people assume it's Guy, but I have this idea that Hancock got his love of American history from his mama and she named her first baby George after Washington and her second baby John after John Adams or, even better, maybe after John Hancock in a crazy twist of fate. What do you think? :)
Weirdly enough, I never really thought about it. Probably because I usually refer to him as McDipshit.
I've heard some people say his first name is actually Mayor, which is just...a thing, I guess. I only recently saw people who think his name is Guy, and I can see that, but Hancock has a habit of calling other dudes "guy" so I'm not sure I prescribe to that one either, although, I mean, people's HCs are their HCs and I ain't gonna judge them for it.
I mean, our boy got his love of history from somewhere. I mean, growing up in DC means he had a formal education, and I agree with most people's opinions that he's always been a big reader, despite his assertion about ghouls and books being their best friends. I, personally, have an HC that his mom is originally from Diamond City, but his dad was from a settlement elsewhere. That they tried to live in the wilds where his dad was happiest, but his mother couldn't stand it and dragged them all back to DC. But, his dad often took the boys fishing just to get the hell out of the city for a while. So, it would stand to reason in my HC that his mom would be more the history buff. DC folks tend to kind of be stuck in the past. I mean, their music hasn't changed; they want people are separated by wealth like the "good old days" despite living in the fucking apocalypse; and they are racist as fuck. All the finer points of the fucking 50s. Bleh. I can see his mom being the one trying to instill the importance of history, maybe in a misguided kind of way, in her boys. It just so happens, they each took that in a different direction.
I really love the flip sides of the coin that they play in FO4.
Anyway, I can see his brother being a George. Or maybe even Thomas, after Thomas Jefferson.
I guess this is a long-winded way of saying, I think that's a pretty damn cool idea!
.
.
-------------------- I just realized that when Hancock uses "guy" it was talking about dudes he has an intense hatred towards. McDipshit and Vic he referred to as "guy". Huh.

Recently I got back into playing Fallout 4 again. Also started watching Harley Quinn, and it got me thinking about how hard it would be to make a Harley Quinn build.
Did a quick search to see if anyone had already done this, and sure enough someone has, but I noticed they gave HQ a 6 in her Intelegence. Don't get me wrong, I get that she is canonically a brilliant person. She graduated valedictorian and was trained in the field of psychoanalysis.
My problem with her being given a 6 in her Intelligence stat, is that the perks you get are more about building Science! gizmos and that just isn't HQ. She's smart but likes to just bash and blow things up. So here is my attempt at making HQ in Fallout 4.
First, her stats will start off as S:4, P:4, E:3, C:1, I:2, A:9, and L:5.
Early on you have access to the baby book that gives you one more stat point, that we'll put in Charisma to bring that up to 2. Likewise, the Perception bobblehead is early enough that we can go ahead and count that as being at 5 instead of 4.
You'll note that Intelegence is only at 2, and the only reason it's that high is that she does have medical training, so we can put perk points into Medic. Nothing else though from that perk line though makes sense for our HQ so no need to have it higher.
But because she is a smart character canonically, we give her the 5 in luck so we can give her Idiot Savant. That skill is specifically described as "You're not stupid! Just... different." and the way she is different is she's fricking bonkers.
Another benefit of having that 5-luck is we get access to Bloody Mess, and you can sure bet however HQ goes about murdering someone she is going to create a bit of a mess.
The 9 in Agility should be obvious as she is an acrobat. We'll want to pick up both Blitz, Moving Target, Action Girl, Sneak, and Ninja from this line. Though keep in mind she is a more in-your-face sort of villain so sneak and ninja are lower priorities.
Endurance is at three because she is chronically immune to toxins and can take a bit of a beating in a fight. So we want things like Toughness, Lead Belly, and Life-Giver. Rad resistance would have been nice but is too far down the Endurance to get early for this build.
Perception is where it's at to give us access to both the Locksmith and the Demolition Expert perks. I see HQ as more the sort to just kick open a door instead of picking the lock, but as the game doesn't give us that option, she needed ways of opening doors that would otherwise get in her way. Likewise, she would not likely spend much time picking the lock of a trunk, and would just smash it open... but again the game doesn't give us that option.
Her Strength of 4 is because her primary weapon of choice is a big old hammer or baseball bat and we want access to both Big Leagues and Blacksmith.
Lastly, that brings us to why we want Charisma to be at two, and that's to give us access to the Black Widow perk. Watch the cartoon, I think you'll agree that she hits men a bit harder with her baseball bat. I'm not even sure I've seen her hit a woman yet with her bat... no wait I can think of one. But only one off the top of my head (mind you I've only just finished watching the first season).
A long-term goal for this character would be to build up her Charisma after getting her core perks so she can access the Intimidate perk. In the cartoon it's actually a plot point early on that people don't really fear her but more fear her association with the Joker. It's only after some time doing her own thing that she builds up her own reputation.
Finally, for equipment, she would go for some sort of blunt melee weapon like a hammer or baseball bat (and with her strength could modify them to be nice and dangerous).
However, in terms of clothes/armor sadly FO4 doesn't give us much in the way of anything that suits a HQ character that well. She wouldn't even likely wear leather armor instead going for some sort of provocative outfit. The only real options that jump out are a Vault Suit or a Baseball uniform.
As for what faction she's going to join? Obviously, she's going to take over Nuka World while siding with the Disciples, but for the main game, she might want to side with the Institute as that is a bit like the Legion of Doom. She would also do the Vault 88 quest line and totally enjoy doing the experiments (perhaps even setting up her own secret base in those caves).

ok i like fo4 the way it is (mostly) but i’ve been thinking recently about a game with both nate and nora together
like we can play as both of them and they vary in strengths and part of the game is getting to utilise their skills effectively, like eg since nora’s a lawyer she would have better charisma and is better at passing speech cheeks, bartering and pacifying while nate as a veteran isn’t as good at the talking part but has special perks like weapon accuracy and better reload times. quest success would rely on your judgement and there are diff outcomes and rewards based on who u pick
at some point they might also disagree on the factions to join like…one hates the institute and the other sees the potential in their work and one joins the railroad and the other goes with the brotherhood and they might even split up for a while ?? then obviously the Big Reveal happens later on and they have to come to terms with what it means for them. will they destroy their son, the only thing that’s been getting them going all this while, or will they live in a world of uncertainties and additional fear AND lose their son
also they’d be an unstoppable force together and yeah i know the both of them being alive reduces the sad factor but i just want to see more of them together okay they didn’t deserve what happened to them

dk if u remember the anon that used to Consistently ask abt felix and andrés, but i recently came across u again on here after being off of tumblr for Awhile and was elated. do u still work on felix n andrés' stories? if so please share bc ive thought abt them on and off for so long. / also, ur art was always amazing but ur style has gotten So Good. have a good day or night & hopefully this doesnt bother u!!
damnn i know this was sent 2 weeks ago, and IM SORRY I FORGOT TO ANSWER IT FJFJFJGHJHG so whoever u are....i hope u will one day see this.. these types of messages are never a bother !! and I always appreciate them deeply
I still work on things involving Andrés, because he's my number one boy baby. Really it's a little bit of everything, he's undeniably my Muse. In recent years I've become very fond of making him a cannibal though, not canonically but in my silly fun time. And a bit more of a dickish asshole (that's Real and True). Other than that I generally work (on and off) on a post fo3 story that's 17 years in the future, but that more so involves his kids. Occasionally I like to ponder about his time and role in fo4. Since I kill off the sole survivor and play him as suffering from transient global amnesia, and being kidnapped (unsuccessfully) by the institute (reasons involving James' scientific breakthroughs, etc. They dug up his dad's grave, and wanna poke at His DNA for cloning reasons). Overall, sometimes he's a college dropout who's been dumped by his girlfriend, and sometimes he's an anti social closet cannibal trying to resist his urges. Sometimes he is 37 years old and moving his family to Syracuse NY. Sometimes he's married to Amata and cheating on her with Butch (LOL). He can live a lot of lives, and I like it.
But I've moved on from Felix, he really hasn't been that compelling to me for years lol. I recently made a new legion courier named Ryker though, and I find him a lot of fun. And should probably work on / post about him some more.
thank u much love, mwahmwah

What about each of the Fallout 4 companions' favorite songs? Not limited to what's on the radio in the Commonwealth, but maybe still within the usual musical era the games showcase?
FO4 Companions Favorite Songs:
TW:
Some of these songs deal with topics such as mentions of suicide, depression and drugs(this is mostly just a warning for Hancock’s song list and a bit for Caits)
Nick Valentine:
-Genre; Jazz, Rock, Country, Disco????(I Genuinely can’t decide) I personally think he’d like all types but his most favorite would probably be Jazz as a safe bet.
-Song(s); Somebody to Love by Queen, Heart Ache by the Number by Guy Mitchell, Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra
Cait:
-Genre; 100% Metal Head, Metal Music all the way. It gets her pumped up when she needs the extra boost of excitement.
-Song(s); There’s a lot of songs she would choose, two notable songs she would probably like would be Angel of Death by Slayer or Back in Black by AC/DC
John Hancock:
-Genre; As much as I would love to say Jazz I feel like if he found out what the Alternative/Indie was, he would absolutely love it.
-Song(s); God there’s a lot of songs I think He would like, however these are the ones I think he’d like the most... Everybody Gets High by MISSO, Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time by Panic! At The Disco, My Strange Addiction by Billie Eilish and Broken by Lund
Deacon:
-Genre; pop, but he’ll never admit it, he’ll always say Rock but he knows damn well pop music is his absolute favorite.
-Song; Bad Romance by Lady Gaga. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.
Curie:
-Genre; Electronic Dance Music. She just enjoys it, it makes her very giddy and she gets more pep in her step if she listens to this genre at any time.
-Song; Almost every Daft Punk song, but would probably have to choose Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.
Porter Gage:
-Genre; A big, BIG Rock fan! He would probably put MacCready to shame by how much he, himself loves Rock music. He could probably name almost every popular pre war Rock band without even flinching. Absolute beast.
-Song(s); In reality he probably couldn’t choose for the life of him, but if he had to he would have to say either, We Will Rock You by Queen or Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.
X6-88:
-Genre; Is quite in love with Jazz as a whole, but also a bit of Rock, he always thought that music was a waste of time until Sole introduced him to music, specifically Jazz and Rock.
-Song(s); I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire by The Ink Spots and Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones.
Codsworth:
-Genre; absolutely loves the classical genre, but he’s recently been getting into Blues and Jazz because of how much those genres remind him of pre war.
-What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, he would always play it for baby Shaun so that Shaun could fall asleep, worked ever time.
Preston:
-Genre; I think Preston also doesn’t have a favorite genre, I think he’d enjoy country but I also thing he’d enjoy a bit of Rhythm and Blues. He probably isn’t picky though
-Song(s); Buttercup by Jack Stauber, The Other Side of Paradise by Glass Animals.
MacCready:
-Genre; Rock ‘n’ Roll baby!! It’s been his favorite sense he was the mayor of Little Lamp Light
-Song; The Wanderer by Dion, it reminds him of home back in the Capital wasteland, it was also his first introduction into Rock music and he’ll never forget it.
Danse:
-Genre; Country and Disco, I am not elaborating
-Song; Funky Town by Lipps inc. and Dancing Queen by ABBA I don’t know why but I enjoy these songs and I think he’d enjoy them to.
Piper:
-Genre; Hiphop and Alternative/Indie, but she refuses that she likes Alternative/Indie so that Hancock doesn’t get all smug.
-Song(s); Walk This Way by Run-D.M.C., Hayloft by Mother Mother.

I absolutely LOVE Sketchy Saturdays and I always look forward to them!! As for my question(s)? What made you decide to start doing it(I'm glad you do but I was just curious!)?
Hoooo boi the Sketchy Saturday Origin Story: I suppose there's two versions.
The short version reads " Moving stress, deployment depression, and isolation VS. my utter determination to DO SOMETHING whilst trapped in my home " -- Sketchy Saturday was the result of that title fight, so I guess the fandom won in the end? XD
The long version, however... Well, buckle up, cause this is gonna be a ride.
It may surprise y'all to know that two years I was eyeballs-deep in the South Park fandom. The blog still exists; my mainblog, JustCallMeButtlord, built to interact with the audience of my fanfictions-- the New Kid Stories, called NKS for short [gonna be porting those to Ao3 soon, just gotta figure out what robo-reader I'm gonna use to make a quick n dirty podfic out of the series as well as help me hunt down typos my eyes galze over]. The first 'season' of stories had ended, 8 completed fics, and I was puttering about with a bonus holiday story that was several months out of season. Not that I CARED because I was on GUAM where seasons don't exist and my time blindness gets even worse becasue without seasons changing it feels like time never progrsses even after being on the island for three cocksucking years.
I don't hate Guam, I am just not built for constant heat. I am a snow creature; I like below-freezing temperatures so I can layer up in fuzzy, fluffy things and drink hot drinks and cuddle loved ones and/or furry animals. It's a lovely island, I adored my first week there... I just wasn't made to live there.
HIlariously, NKS started out of the stress of moving to Guam. Two years and 8 fics later, the place we were renting was no longer within our price range and my hubby and I were forced to move onto base. Under the leader whom I refuse to name, military pay was given a precentage raise... but it was ripped out of bonuses and OCONUS pay. OCONUS is what a military member is paid when they're stationed Outisde the CONtinental United States. This usually means overseas bases like Japan, but it also means Hawaii, aaaaaand... GUAM. So that percentage pay increase for the military at large meant belt-tightening for every service member abroad, and we were forced to move onto base.
In case y'all haven't noticed by now, I'm a raging socialist with some issued with authority. I DO NOT LIKE EXISTING ON BASE. I do not like existing in a place where the national anthem plays twice a day, every day, at 6 AM and then again whenever the hell sundown is that day. And there's an unspoken rule no one tells you that when it plays you're supposed to stop what you're doing, face the nearest set of speakers playing the song, and stare in that direction with your hand over your heart until its over. That, if you're driving, you have to put on your emergency flashers and pull over. No one tells you this. NO ONE TELLS YOU THIS.
And then, before we had secured a place on base but we had set a move out date for the rental house, the Pandemic happened. While we were between homes. The base is talking full lockdown, Guam authorities want to shut down the island but businesses are terrified of not getting the tourist season business, we don't even know if we'll be allowed to move on to base.
Surprise, I stopped writing for a while... but I picked Fallout 4 back up again. I had been forced into the series years earlier by a toxic relationship, but the game itself hadn't been bad-- just the way I'd been forced to play it by someone who was firmly not in my life anymore. When confronted with character creation, I wasn't sure whom I wanted to make... but decided to go back to an old character. A VERY old character, whom I hadn't thought of since I'd finished ME3 at least 4 years prior, and a character I first conceived of when I was 14-ish... which is now about 15 years ago.
Paige.
I've talked before about how well Paige's story maps onto Fo4, but this was before I knew that. I knew the opening, her losing her kid, and that fit with her-- but something clicked while I was playing and the part of my brain that likes to create started wandering off. Soon enough I've got a couple chapters of a ficlet that I'm TOTALLY just writing as a personal one-shot to de-stress, no way I'm publishing this, I don't wanna get distracted from NKS, I got a whole 'nother season to write! Who cares if no one is reading it anymore because South Park Fandom doesn't like continuous plots.... right?
I was burnt out as hell, the move was looming, the Pandemic was getting worse and everything was getting scarier.
Then the news came through that hubby would be deploying again.
He wasn't supposed to, but the Navy decided the safest place for their sailors was the middle of the ocean, so if you WERENT in quarantine you were going on the boat and you were living there. Didn't matter if your spouse would be alone, unpacking a whole home by themselves.
I had a friend on base. We hung out. I met with my DND group on weekends; we all lived on base now, so we could meet up in like five minutes... and then restrictions tightened. You could be fined up to 5 grand for gathering in groups greater than 5, even outdoors, and detained if suspected of going to a home that wasn't yours. I still met 2 of my friends once a week for walks; get outside, be active, talk to other humans, but besides that? I was locked up alone in a new house in a place that I did NOT like existing in.... with a fresh new hyperfixation developing.
I think it was about a week into the new house that I made the new blog. At first I tried to run it side by side with the South Park stuff, but it wasn't long before all my attention was here... aaaand it also wasn't long before I was confronted with a lot of my own despair; of lockdown, of isolation, of watching a broken system crumble and not being able to DO anything about it, and I started to kinda lose my shit. I fuss-- I can't leave things alone, and I couldn't leave this feeling alone; of being fully and entirely helpless and hopeless.
And then I sketched a thing for a friend, and it made them happy. They were having a rough time, too, and I put something together because I couldn't think of anything else. And it helped. It lifted them up, and it lifted me up, too. Someone else had recently reblogged one of those pallet challenges that floats around Tumblr, and I decided FUCK IT LET'S DO THIS THING AND CALL IT SKETCHY SATURDAY!
Little secret, the very first Sketchy Saturday request? Was me. I was so scared no one would noticed the event, I sent myself the very first request, back when the event still took anons. Soon as that first picture was up:
Tumblr media
BANG, suddenly four more; some people off anon. I met people that day, talked to them after the very first Sketchy weekend was over, chatted about the games and characters and art and writing and just... felt human for the first time in a really long while.
I figured I'd hold on to Sketchy Saturday until the deployment was over-- once hubby was back, I'd decide whether I was keeping it or not... but he came back, and I was still super into it, and he was supportive, sooooo I kept going! And then we did Sketchy Secret Santa, and people loved it, and my volunteers are excited about being Sketchy Elves and Secret Helpers and just OH MY GOD I DID A THING GUYS. I DID A THING-- that was just me all December and January long lmafo.
AND JANUARY! Because AH HECK, WE MOVING AGAIN! Because hubby finally got orders, and OH MY GOD we're going back to WA... but it's still a move half-way around the globe, and I was SURE I'd have to shut down the event for a month while we got our shit in order and NOPE, because here come the volunteers from Sketchy Secret Santa, and they wanna fill in all month long! Like... I didn't even ask for that shit, guys. They offered it so the event wouldn't have to take a gap.
Jesus I'm getting teary just remembering it.
So yeah. Sketchy Saturday is here because I got really lonely and stressed out while Fallout 4 provided me with some... catharsis for my situation, and then a pandemic happened.
And then y'all happened, and I'm still here. :D

Various thoughts on fallout 4 so far just putting it under cut bc its long and rambly
ok so like as far as thoughts go is that its really fun I like the modding and settlement building and the gunplay is great. There's been some fun side quests and I also really like most of the characters ive run into so far. Im not really too far into the game i only have 32 hours so I haven't run into everything obviously but I'm very pleased with just the amount of stuff there is to do in the game by th way of quests and just locations to explore. Also the atmosphere is fucking amazing I love how there's fog and rain and stuff and ofc the inon zur soundtrack is perfect multiple times I have stopped to just look around and listen to it. I dont play many "recent" games so idk how good the graphics are like relative to other stuff but I think it looks lovely like with the sun coming through the trees and stuff. I also really like how the companions interact with the people around them. So I mean. I like the game. And also like I know everyone has already made every point possible about this game bc its 6 years old but I want to talk about it because I want to. So anyways like somethign that is bugging me is the dialouge. of course. but not just that it's like "persuade" "threaten" whatever its just kind of the whole structure of it like theres only ever four options. In fnv which im gonna compare to fnv bc ive spend the most time with it (ive played fo1 and fnv aside from fo4) its like. you meet someone they give you a quest and usually you would have like at least 2 ways to go about it and not just "good way" "bad way" and you can like get more info for the situation through skill checks and not just persuasion checks which are rng. skills and skill checks really kind of felt more like you were building a character vs fo4 where its like you have your character and just choose various perks. Like the character you make doesnt seem to have much influence on anything outside of like. can you pick this lock or make this gun mod. But anyways it just feels really limiting like its only ever giving you different ways to say the same thing. so like you can something nice and your companion will like that or you can be mean and your companion doesnt like it. And also I dont like how much people love to talk about how good you are like everyones like man you are such a good person I never meet good people but youre a REALLY GOOD PERSON and im just like kind of tired of being showered with praise for not leaving someone to be murdered by raiders or whatever it wears thin. also also I feel like the companions being romance options kind of cheapens them as characters bc like it just makes them feel flimsy. Like literally any character you could make could end up with them (provided you dont always do things they hate obv) but its just kind of like .bleh. And i would be mroe ok with it if like the actual writing and dialouge leading up to a relationship was good but its like you upgrade affection they say something personal and its just a flirt button. so. its not awesome. and also I kind of feel like they could be doing way more like commentary or interesting subversive stuff with how much of the whole colonial time aesthetic they borrow for the game which at first was kind of like funny like im fighting in a revolutionary war museum lol but it just kidn of like is. I mean are we going to kind of go into the whole patriotism thing being a major theme in fallout or not. i mean the answer is not it seems. Lonesome road didnt go into the thematic importance of the symbols people fight under for fo4 to call the minutemen the good guys and leave it at that. anyways im not like a fallout expert so if any of this seems like bullshit it probably is. i love you

HOW'S IT GOING:
Good! I'm working a lot as Christmas comes closer but the extra cash is welcome and I'm working on my favourite things right now. I've been able to dedicate time to music again and done a couple compositions as well as lined up some new pieces to learn for both piano and bass. I've also had the opportunity to use some new studio equipment including a new synth which has been fun. I've been commissioned recently which is so much fun,, alongside that I've been working on my art. I'm trying new things and I think I'll start some more work on developing full scenes. I've been very drawn to graphic novel work and might try some animation in the near future. I might be posting some traditional paintings sometime soon as well. Other than that, life is pretty good for me right now :)

for the fandom meme do my name (JACK)
Oooh fun, thank you!! J - Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr Hmm, I didn’t have any plans to play New Vegas and I didn’t get into it nearly so much as I did FO4, but I did thoroughly enjoy and anticipate revisiting the game sometime. Seeing so many of my mutuals loving on it made me want to give it a try! Also, more recently, @pchberrytea dragged me into the sweet hell that is Wayhaven Chronicles. Not my usual cup of tea, but I set Fallout down to start it and was immediately beset upon by a 6′0″ vampire lady named Nat who is the sweetest. So, she could murder me, is what I’m saying (but she wouldn’t because this Nat is so nice omg.) And now I’m hooked.  A - Your current OTP(s)/OT3(s)/OTX(s) Probably fairly obvious, but Natasha x MacCready, Deacon x MacCready, Deacon x MacCready x Natasha. Any permutation of these three is grand imo.  There’s a lot of characters I casually ship, or old ships of mine that are just sort of “dormant” right now, but these three take the cake that way. In Wayhaven, I’m romancing Nat rn. She’s wonderful. But I definitely need to go back and do an M romance, too.  C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will (be nice) Hmmm. I really don’t particularly care for the Blackwall romance in Inquisition. I’ve nothing against anyone who enjoys it. I’ve tried it a few times, and tried traveling with him more to understand him better (which was actually really enlightening on a recent run through!). I do feel like I’ve gotten to see more of his nuance, but the romance just rubs me weird and I never really got into it. K -Say something nice about someone in any of your fandoms YOU. You are always so encouraging to those around you. The Fluffy February event you organized is awesome so far! I’m sad I won’t have much, if anything to contribute (I veered too far into smut territory for Game Night haha), but it’s such a neat thing to get to see other writers have their work showcased that way, and get to see some different ships. I’m also really happy to see you’ve been sharing more of your own writing recently. I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read of your work! You’re just such a positive light in this internet space. I always enjoy seeing you on my dash <3 [Fandom Ask Meme]

TWENTY OTP QUESTIONS
Tagged by @yennas ty💜
Hmmm. Well I believe I did this a while ago for Sharky/Lo. So let's go for my rarely talked about fo4 otp.
Tumblr media
1) who can out drink the other?Definitely Maccready. Scarlett slams her liquor, consequences be dammed, that 200+yr liquor tastes like ass.
2) who says “i love you” more? Maccready.
3) who has trouble sleeping alone? Scarlett. She's never liked sleeping alone, even before the bombs.
4) who swears more? Scarlett. She's trying for more creative terms, after learning why Mac tries not to curse. She fails. A lot.
5) who does more of the housework? Housework in the wasteland... not much of that happening. Both of em keep their gear clean and wash/hang clothes to dry. Scarlett tends to keep the 'junk' organized.
6) who forgets their anniversary? Listen, sometimes dates fly by without noticing, trying to survive and all. Might be some light teasing the one who didn't notice first though.
7) who steals the duvet in their sleep? Scarlett has a nearly pristine blanket from the vault and Maccready ALWAYS ends up tangled in it. Like no other blanket, just that one.
8) who keeps the other awake at night with their snoring? They sleep in shifts on the road but when they're somewhere safe, Maccready compares her snoring to a pissed off Yao guai. She's a tired woman 😴 she won't deny it
9) who finds stray animals and begs the other to let them keep them? Scarlett. Cats, dogs, rad chickens. It's for the settlements.
10) who usually makes dinner? Tbh they both are shit at eating a real meal, but she did have Danse show her ways to live on more than mutfruit or roasted tatos and carrots.
11) who plays their music out loud? Scarlett. Mac grumbles about alerting enemies but she's seen him playing 🎸with his rifle and lip syncing to his fav tunes. It's adorable.
12) who hogs the bathroom? She takes advantage of lonnggg showers on the prydwyn, no matter how many times shes reprimanded.
13) who gives the most compliments? In the early stages, definitely her. Now it's fairly even.
14) who usually starts/causes arguments between them? 9/10 Scarlett has done something (her attitude, sometimes she flees a firefight, undercharging a job, picking up too much junk) but technically, Maccready starts the arguing.
15) who isn’t afraid to embarrass the other in public? Nothing they do intentionally. She's def causes secondhand embarrassment anytime she gets ahold of some Bobrov's moonshine though.
16) who gives the other cringe worthy pet names? Not their style
17) who fusses over the other when they get sick? Maccready. Scarlett hasn't been adjusted to life after the war long, so she tends to get sick often and he doesn't. Plus he's a dad to a sick kid, he WORRIES.
18) who finds it impossible to stay angry at the other for long? Scarlett because she causes most of the situations to be angry about.
19) who clings to the other for comfort when they’re sad or scared? She does.
20) who is more ‘physically passionate’? (hugs, kisses, or maybe more…) Scarlett doesn't shy away from the pda but behind prying eyes 😏 maccready can't keep his hands to himself.
Tagging from recent notiffs, so as usual, no obligations intended. @minilev @fadedjacket @chyrstis @third-rail-vip @rancorousmendez @deputyash @smithandrogers @deathvalleyqueen

🍁 November Update 🍂
Hello, friends! I have missed you all so much! I wanted to fill you guys in on what’s going on with me and my account.
I am finishing up my Fall semester of school. I’ll have a couple weeks off in December so I am hoping to write a little bit more! I will, however, most definitely write a react for Christmas and I’m debating on whether or not to write something for Thanksgiving because I have some ideas on what to write but at the same time I work all that week so we’ll have to see!
I recently started playing Fallout: New Vegas! And while it’s not entirely the same as Fo4, it’s starting to get me back into the mood for writing about the wasteland. I don’t know the companions very well for that game, because I am keeping my knowledge about the companions to a minimum so that I am surprised, so I probably won’t write about the companions of New Vegas. At least not for a long while.
I am designing a new OC for New Vegas as well! Which is always very exciting! Once I develop her a little more I will start writing and including her in my OC account! ✨ @ocwastelandvoid ✨ (shameless plug, lol)
Going back to my point about school and work, everything has been good, although I found out the reason for my burnout; school. Once I am finished with my Fall and Spring semester, I am taking a gap year before college. I am exhausted. As an online student, I have been taking online classes non-stop for five years now. (I take courses in the summers. The only breaks I get are a week or two in between semesters.) During this gap year, I hope to work more hours to save up money and focus on my hobbies! That includes editing and writing!
And speaking of writing, I wanted to ask you guys how you would feel if I began to write about the characters of Apex Legends? I know it’s not Fallout related, but I wanted to write a little bit about them as well as the Fallout 4 companions. This account will still primarily be about Fallout (specifically Fo4), but I did want to incorporate little sprinkles of Dishonored and Apex. Tell me what you guys think about that in the comments!
I love you all! Thank you for being ever so patient and supportive of me!

7. 3 Favorite Companions
Gonna stick with Fo4 for this one since there’s just so many to pick overall so:
1. Danse - I mean, are y’all shocked? I remember first meeting the guy when I played on Xbox but there was a glitch so I couldn’t talk to him or anything, he just chilled outside the police station. I thought he was pretty but didn’t know he was a companion or anything. Later when I played on PC I actually started doing the brotherhood line of quests and oof did I fall hard. I love him as a character, and for his backstory - and he’s honestly a pretty solid companion in combat too. I really wish they had chosen to use the cut ending for him, alllwing him to challenge Maxson and keep his status in the Brotherhood, and hell maybe make the Brotherhood less bigoted. I only ever play with the mod that adds it back in now.
2. Gage - Again, shouldn’t be a shock if you’ve been following me. Gage is a more recent addition but he has become one of my all time favorites really quickly. I’m a Disney/theme park history fan and when I learned about the Nuka World dlc I was super into it for the lore. But when I went to play it on my original game file, my saves all got corrupted and deleted. When I was finally ready to come back to fallout I was determined to finally see Nuka World for myself. I knew of Gage from whatever lore videos or posts I’d seen around, but I didn’t think he’d be a character I’d be particularly interested in. Wellllll pretty much as soon as I heard that accent growling at me on the monorail I was done for. Something about that stinky raider man has won my heart, like, why did they make him so sweet?? Similar to Danse, I love his personality and backstory, and he’s a lot of fun to have at your side in combat. One of the highlights of Nuka World, I only wish they had given him a redemption option for those playing “good guy” characters. (That’s why I have mods though lol). Still, best raider boyfriend and has a lot of fun and silly stuff to say when you travel with him.
3. Deacon - This was a close tie between Deacon and Dogmeat, but since I always run with Dogmeat and someone else I figured it’s only fair to give it to Deeks. How can you not love this guy?? The Railroad as a whole is pretty neat and they easily could’ve had a super serious hardcore spy character (something like X6 with the stoic demeanor) but instead they give us a super outgoing, loud, charismatic fella and I love him. Clearly I’m a sucker for pretty guys with tragic backstories, and Deacon just seems like someone I’d be best friends with irl. Just wish they’d gone all the way and given us a proper romance option.
14. Favorite Perk
A good question and one I haven’t really thought about. I pretty much always play a stealth sniper character with a lot of VATS useage, it’s just what I’m best at. I’d say the perk I find the most helpful, and generally the one I go for first is Penetrator. For those moments when the Raider’s head is just behind a wall but you know you can take them out. For more fun perks, I also like Attack Dog and Scrounger.
21. Least Favorite Faction
My answer for this varies a bit. In-universe lore wise, my least favorite would be the Institute, mainly for the fact they have access to amazing advanced technology that can create clean water, fresh foods, medicines, teleportation, etc. and instead spend their time making robot clones of people??? And then they scoff at surface dwellers for barely scraping by on small farms, like yeah guys if only they have some friends with electricity and giant underground apartments to help them out. Not to get into the whole “kidnap a baby and raise him to be a sociopath” thing as well. I wouldn’t wanna destroy the institute, I’d rather see those resources opened up to the people of the commonwealth, but their whole philosophy is trash. I’ll admit I haven’t yet done a full Institute character, I have plans to after my newest character is complete, but I don’t think my thoughts will change much.
Gameplay wise, I gotta say Minuteman is probably my least favorite. Settlement building is fun in small doses, but doing it over and over can be soooo tedious and frustrating (mostly due to the various quirks of the building system). I’m currently on a new save file of a new Minuteman character, so I’ve been blazing through those quests all in the row, and it’s very quickly becoming a chore. The same “go here, talk to them, kill the thing, build the beacon, talk to Preston, repeat” is kinda irritating. Plus if you want your settlements to look nice and be functional, you have to put a lot of time and effort into building them up and that means collecting scrap and stuff, a whole other layer to it. I like the settlement building system in small doses, but it’s basically all you get to do in the Miniteman faction. I really wish there were more dynamic quests, like taking back Quincy, or more to do with the Castle/Ronnie Shaw.
