I loved this book!  It was a great conclusion to both the Mighty Jack and the Zita the Spacegirl series!   I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes graphic novels and/or adventure books.

Today I was in the mood for a beautiful story. Something that would fill my heart and make me smile. And that's exactly what Ben Hatke's "Julia's House for Lost Creatures" (2014) does. It reads somewhere between fairy tale and modern story, with a girl who lives alone, a dilemma, and a host of magical creatures to help her resolve it. Full of joy, magic, and just a dash of hijinks, this story is a beautiful rumination on loneliness, family-building, and welcoming other souls into our spaces, even those who are not pretty or familiar. Ben Hatke, creator of Zita the Spacegirl, Mighty Jack, and other well-loved stories, lost his 4yo daughter in a tragic accident this past week. I know I tend to feel helpless in the face of that sort of grief, but there are a couple ways to reach out:

(side note: I have been having a quiet one-woman boycott of Macmillan for their terrible treatment of libraries, but people are, in some cases, more important than an abstract principle, and this is one of those cases.)

Or if your finances are such that you can't do either of those, pray. "Thoughts & prayers" is rightly derided as a cheap response to tragedy, but *actual* prayer--taking time out of your day to ask the Lord's comfort & mercy for those who grieve--is neither cheap nor a waste.
