When Bernie was brought on as head of the science department at St. Winifred’s secondary school, she and Serena inevitably butted heads. As deputy headteacher, and one of the longest standing faculty in the department, Serena didn’t take kindly to Bernie pushing in on her territory. Some of their early rows were the stuff of legend among the other faculty.

Despite all that, they came to understand one another, and eventually became the closest of friends. Bernie treasures the time they spend together, their friendship one of the most important she’s ever had in her life.

Which is why it's so damnably inconvenient that she also has a rather desperate crush on Serena.

Berena Secret Santa Writing Sprint

Hi everyone,

it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, so how about we sprint today?

We’ll start earlier than usual

8pm CET (7pm GMT)

I’ll post a zoom link a few minutes before we start.

How does this work?

We get ready to write, either with or without Zoom, a few minutes before the sprint starts.

We start to write for 25 minutes at the full hour.

We count our words after the time is up.

We post our word count as a comment and see how far the sprint got us.

This year I had the pleasure of writing for @tea-and-shoelaces​ who prompted Kate Stewart/UNIT AU and Hurt/Comfort. While I sort of went straight for the comfort side of things, it was a delight to get to play with Kate next to Bernie and Serena and add as many dogs as I could. I hope y'all enjoy the final product!

And I loved all of them. I started writing something for the long-distance Christmas prompt. Then I had an idea for the treehouse prompt. And then something weird happened to my brain chemicals and I decided to combine the two. The third one is also a given ;)

Sign-ups for Berena Secret Santa 2020 open today!

What is a Secret Santa?

This Secret Santa is, quite simply, a fic exchange. You send in some prompts of your choosing, which are then randomly given to another participant to fill. In turn, you get someone else’s prompts. Along the way, you send anonymous messages to your person. It’s a great way to share the love and to make new friends!

How does it all work?

Sign ups for the Berena Secret Santa close on the 15th of November. I’ll then collate the entries and match your name with an appropriate prompt. You should receive a message detailing the name of your giftee and your prompt(s) no later than the 16th of November.

You’ll then have five weeks to send your giftee love, get to know them, and produce your gift. All entries must be posted on the weekend of 19th-20th of December.

How do I take part?

If you’d like to take part, fill in this form.

The form will ask you for up to three prompts. This will give your giftee some flexibility with what they write for you. If you are including a prompt that would require smut or an angsty prompt, please also include at least one non-angsty and non-smutty prompt as well. This will help me streamline the process of assigning prompts to participants.

Matching betas will be dependent on how many people offer their services. If you can’t take part but are available to help as a beta, please let me know.

What’s different this year?

Taking a leaf out of the book of other successful events, we will have WIP Wednesday, where you can send in a snippet of your fic before the posting date, and we will have a posting schedule to sign up to so that fics are spread out over the course of the posting weekend.

Guidelines

Fics should be a minimum of 1000 words long and posted to the AO3 collection I will set up nearer the posting date.

If you don’t have an AO3 account, contact @wonkots42 and I will send you an invite.

If you want to produce something other than a fic, or of you want to write a fic for the event but not be matched with a giftee, I will be providing separate prompts/opportunities to take part for you.

If your giftee can’t or doesn’t want to turn on anon asks you can message this account with your ask and we will act as intermediaries.

Part of the fun of this event is the messages you receive. So I strongly encourage everyone to send love as well as fill your prompt.
