Writing Tools for Planning Your Story
I've tried tons of writing apps and sites, so you don't have to. Here's a list of free sites to plot out your novel, with my review and some images of how I use it.
Milanote
Milanote is like having a giant pinboard with folders. You can upload anything onto it [yes even your main doc] and then draw over it or connect things with lines and arrows
Milanote lets you add up to a hundred things for free, not including drawing. This is one of the downsides of the site as I've found myself reaching that limit recently.
For me, the best part is being able to draw over stuff, and the color swatches.
Milanote is a lot less structured than other sites I've used, and personally, I don't think their templates are worth using.
8/10 overall, Milanote is what I mainly use. Here are some pics of how I use it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miro
Miro is a flowchart website mainly used for corporate jobs, however, it can be a great plotting tool for that reason
Miro has a lot of great starter templates if you are looking for a more structured freeform experience. It also comes with a blank page as well.
Unfortunately, I'd argue that it's a bit of a hard tool for beginners to use without a template, I've learned copy-paste is my best friend with Miro the hard way.
It's much better than most platforms at making timelines though.
It has a limit of three boards which is a bit disappointing but overall, I think it's worth the try.
5/10 Miro is very middle of the road for me due to the limited ability to customize things and the free limit. Here are some pics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[I wrote that part weeks ago, I am now fully using Miro and believe it's the best for making timelines and charts, I just wish it let me make more boards 8/10]
Hiveword
This might be someone's jam, I can't really say it's mine though.
First off, the unpaid version is really just a few boxes saying "Write a summary here." which makes it just not worth it in my opinion
There really isn't any way to customise things which is my favorite part of most of these softwares
I've barely used this, so maybe there's something I'm missing but
1/10, Just use Google Docs at this point, here's a couple pics
Tumblr media Tumblr media
World Anvil
People like this software, it's mainly used for tabletop, which is just a different way of writing adventure, and I've seen it recommended by authors.
Unfortunately, I'm going to disagree with a lot of people and say it's hard to use and isn't even really good at plotting.
I may be biased on this one as every time I've tried to use it in the past I've struggled. However, it seems like another just write it in a document and create a folder.
I'd say it's closer to an organizing tool, but even then just use something else.
3/10, I have nothing to say about it but maybe you'll enjoy it, all here are two photos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Campfire
This is the one I think I've heard the most about, but have never actually tried.
right off the bat, I'm going to say this is 100% worth it, you'll see at the end with the photos but this is like if Miro and World Anvil had an organization baby.
It's extremely easy to understand, and it makes timelines, it's more for writing your whole book but idk about that yet.
7/10, its themes are really pretty but it limits how much you can do to 20 I believe. Here are the photos
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's all for now, honestly, I think you should use Miro if you are looking to plot things out, and Milanote if you want to collect and organize your thoughts for writing, as that's what I do. Obviously what I like won't be for everyone, but hopefully, this helped you see some options

My Open-Source Tolkien Studies Data Sets
One of the best parts of being an independent scholar is that I get to be generous with my research. I am not counting on it for a job, and frankly, between teaching at a small rural school and running the Silmarillion Writers' Guild, I will likely never be able to do all that I want to do with the data that I collect and so love the idea that someone might do something with it.
Because I do love making sets of data. Everything from the mind-numbing copy/paste data entry to learning new spreadsheet formulas is enjoyable to me. I'm an introvert in a very extraverted profession, and after a day of being all on for my students, turning everything into numbers is like a cup of tea under a warm blanket with a Golden Retriever at my feet.
So please use these data sets if they interest you. Play with them. Write about and share what you notice. Expand and build on them. Publish using them. If you use my data or work, credit Dawn Walls-Thumma and link to my website, dawnfelagund.com, if possible. I'd also love if you'd let me know if you share anything using them.
Consolidated Timelines. I made this back in 2013. I was trying to arrange all of Tolkien's timelines side by side. I did some weird things with numbers that I'm not sure I fully understand now, but maybe you can make sense of this or maybe you just want everything Tolkien said about timelines in one handy document. (Make a copy of the Consolidated Timelines.)
Fanfiction Archive Timeline. Made for the 2023 Fan Studies Network North America conference, this timeline-on-a-spreadsheet shows archives in the Tolkien and Harry Potter fandoms, multifandom archives, and social networks and when they came online, were active, became inactive, and went offline, along with data about affiliated communities, software, and rescue efforts. I update this timeline annually with that year's data and will continue to add new archives when I have enough data to do so. (Make a copy of the Fanfiction Archive Timeline spreadsheet.)
References to Sources in the Works of J.R.R. Tolkien. In this document, I record each time a narrator's source is mentioned or alluded to. Ideally, this will one day include The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings as well! For now, it is just The Silmarillion for the selfish reason that I'm predominantly a Silmarillion researcher. (Make a copy of the References to Sources.)
Silmarillion Characters. A list of all of the characters in The Silmarillion, demographic data about them, the number of times they are mentioned, various aliases, and which "books" of The Silmarillion they appear in. The latter part is a work-in-progress. (Make a copy of Silmarillion Characters.)
Silmarillion Death Scenes (spreadsheet | document). For last year's Tolkien at UVM and Oxonmoot conferences, I collected every death scene in the Quenta Silmarillion and recorded various details about character demographics, cause of death, and grief and mourning rituals. (Make a copy of the spreadsheet. Make a copy of the document.)
The Silmarillion: Who Speaks? This is my newest project, which I hope to complete by the end of the year, documenting which characters get to speak actual words, the number of words they speak, and demographics about the speaking characters. Eventually, I would like to include as well characters who are mentioned as having spoken without being given actual dialogue, but one step at a time. Again, this is a work-in-progress. I have just started working on it. Come back in 2025 and, hopefully, there will be interesting stuff to see.

Please Start Archiving in the US
With current events, I think it is prudent that everyone, that is able to, needs start archiving shit. I am a former library worker but I do not know much about cybersecurity. If you do want to go down that route please research and keep you and your archive safe :). The more copies that are preserved, then the more likely it is that the media will survive. Even if you save only 2 files that is still important!
First, I will list how to create an computer archive and best practices, then I will provide a list of known targets and suggested materials to add.
You need somewhere to store your data most people will use their computer's storage drive but you need to have backups! Do not rely on cloud storage solutions, they require internet connection are vulnerable to data breaches, and the companies that store that data must follow any laws that the government may decide to pass. USBs or external hardrives are best options. CDs can be used in a pinch, but are more likely to degrade as well as having lower storage capacity then the previous options. Use whatever you have lying around, you do not need to spend money if you don't want to.
When saving data use file formats that are common and able to be read without use of a special software. (that means no .docx) PDF/A is the gold standard for archiving. It is a subtype of pdf that contains metadata, such as typefaces and graphical info, that ensure the files are read properly in the future. Adobe Acrobat is able to save and convert documents into PDF/A. PDFTron, DocuPub, and Ghostscript are all free or have free versions that create pdf/a files. PNG, JPEG2000, .txt, MP3, wav, are other common file types that the Smithsonian recommends for data storage. For a full list of types to use and avoid, see the sources cited at the bottom.
What are we archiving?
Please gather both fiction and nonfiction resources. Nonfiction collection ideas: Current news clips, local history of marginalized communities, interviews, biographies, memoirs, zines, and art pieces. Saving scientific research is incredibly important! In 1933, one of the first places they targeted was the Institute of Sexual Science. Lots of what was stored there was never recovered. Environmental science, trans and intersex health, and minority history will likely be targeted first. For fiction, the most commonly challenged books last year were: 1) GenderQueer by Maia Kobabe 2) All Boys Aren't Blue by George Johnson 3) This Book is Gay by Juno Dawson 4) The of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky 5) Flamer by Mike Curato 6) The Bluest Eyes by Toni Morrison 7) Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews 8) Tricks by Ellen Hopkins 9) Let's Talk about it (Teen guide to sex, relationships, and being a human) by Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan 10) Sold by Patricia McCormick I present this list so you have an idea of what is normally targeted. Books that describe racism and queer identities are most common, but other targets include any depictions of violence, drugs, sex. Use your personal archive to accumulate data that you personally are passionate about. The more niche a topic the more likely it is that other people will not have it in their storage.
Lastly, please remember as an archivist you are not there to determine if a piece is worthy of being saved. Just because you do not like or agree with the message does not mean it will be saved from being banned. All artworks amateur or professional are worthy of being archived.

hi cat! 🩷 so as you know i really enjoy your ts2 posts and lately i've gotten the itch to play it again! but last time i played ts2 i played it with only a few crappy cc clothes lol, so i have no idea what mods are essential mods to have in ts2 or where to get them, how to prevent saves from getting corrupted and how to build your own custom hood - stuff like that. so i wondered if you have any advice or if you knew any guides on where to even get started on this? 😭 thank you 🩷🩷🩷
vilna hiiiiiii!! first of all i am so sorry that this took me so long to reply! i got ill and it hit me harder than it should rip 😭 anyways, thank you so much as always for your kind words, you know i love your stuff so it really is appreciated 💖
it’s a long write-up and i reference a lot of guides and resources from the community from which i learned myself. i’m really grateful to this community for sharing these resources, truly! i tried to organize this as best and include as much as i could, but i'm sure there may be missing things or things left unclear. so if you have any questions feel free to message me!
i. installation
i personally use the sims 2 rpc launcher by lazyduchess, which is included in osab’s installation guide. i really like this guide, since it includes links to the full sims 2 collection, as well as indications to make the game work more nicely with modern hardware and software, such as modern graphics cards through graphics rules makers or the 4gb patch.
it also includes instructions for reshade installation (i personally use the rpc injection method).
ii. setting up a clean slate
whether you want to play in a premade neighborhood or a custom neighborhood, i recommend using a clean slate, meaning empty and/or clean neighborhoods. many functions of the game use hoods, and sometimes these aren’t actual physical hoods and instead add sims as townies or npcs. there are also “clean” versions of premade neighborhoods that fix/tweak oversights by maxis.
mind that if you want a brand new hood without maxis’ townies, you need to get an empty pleasantview template (N001) in your game’s installation folder, or disable it somehow by changing its name. you can still play in pleasantview as it will be stored in your documents neighborhoods folder, and you can use clean versions for that. you also need to get empty stealth hoods.
this all may sound a bit complicated, but simgaroop made a wonderful write-up here for different user cases depending on what you’d like to do in your game. the mods linked here are a boon!
as for making a brand new empty hood, i love getting custom terrains (which are sc4 files originally made in simcity 4). some of my faves are made by @/nimitwinklesims, but i also like finding them at modthesims. you don't need to create each type of subhood, but i do have at least one of each in bloom valley. in bloom valley i have two downtowns (one is magic town from sims 1 originally converted to sims 2 by @/voleste. the other is @/kattaty's remake of downtown, which will be deleted and replaced with a downtown i'll make myself to be more consistent with my other subhoods. it is incredible, and i think i will use some of their lots in my new downtown because they are great), i have two shopping districts. one is strangetown because i love those premades and townies; i never have sims visit or form relationships with them though, it's just so i see them around. the other is oakburg which uses acorn bend as a base, it works more or less as an expansion to bloom valley and it's where i play more often than not these days. then i have the vacation hood makeovers by @/plumbtales. the university hood was made from scratch by me.
when you create your own hood, you will either have to set up your own townies from scratch or source them from community shared townie hoods. for making townies from scratch, i recommend @/simper-fi’s guide (also recommend getting the mods linked here before you make a hood).
for townie hoods shared by other simmers, i recommend those shared by @/mikexx2 (seriously, look at all those familiar faces that ended up as spouses for gen 1 in bloom valley) and @/marvelann’s sims made townies by @/letthemplaysimscc. i also use the bon voyage locals shared by @/plumbtales. i also make my own townies from time to time or use specific downloaded sims as townies.
iii. on corruption
here’s the good news: as it turns out, corruption really isn’t an issue. april black has made an excellent video on the matter of corruption; although it is long, i recommend anyone who plays ts2 to watch it, or at the very least the final timestamp. to know what to do and what not to do.
although corruption isn’t an issue, i still consider the suite of “anti corruption” mods to be essential in order to avoid overpopulation and overall weirdness.
iv. making the game look pretty
i have linked my eye and skin genetics over here
my supernatural skins default replacements: alien - witch - vampire - plantsim - werewolf - considering switching my vampire, zombie, and werewolf defaults to this
for hair, i only use 4t2 conversions. i just like the way they look. i use @/platinumaspiration’s 4t2 defaults collection, which is a boon. for custom hairstyles, i recommend going through @/4t2clay
for clothes, i recommend going through the sims 2 defaults database. i have also linked some favorite creators for male clothes here. note that they also have female clothes. other creators i enjoy: @/mdpthatsme @kaluxsims @/jacky93sims @/goatskickin
i have a lot of makeup and “skin details” in my folder, but i have always been fond of @/lilith-sims’ things
for build/buy, that’s more difficult to pinpoint, but i again recommend @/sims4t2bb for a conversion database, and also @/veranka-downloads’s plentiful 4t2 and 3t2 conversions. some creators that feature in my folder: @/i07jeuu @/linacheries @/nonsensical-pixels @/pforestsims @/tvickiesims
custom sliders in cas: @/simnopke’s sliders, @/memento-sims’ sliders
for the ui, i use the incredible @/greatcheesecakepersona’s clean ui; i also use the mods linked here (+ @/keoni-chan’s amazing talk to me icon to replace icons), particularly the one to remove the red border in pause mode since that won’t be removed in tab camera
speaking of camera, this is the camera mod i use
i regrettably don’t recall the exact lighting mod i use (looking at them, probably cinema secrets), but i know it is one shared by @/veronaquiltingbee
to beautify my neighbor, i consider these skylines by @/lowedeus to be essential (+ optimized textures by @/celestialspritz). additionally i use the rural charm terrain and roads default replacement by @/criquettewashere in addition to most if not all of their hood decorations. i also love 3t2 hood decor conversions!
another useful resource is the gos events
please note that a lot of these creators do multiple categories of cc, so recommendations for one category may overlap with another; i know that this is just scratching the surface but i hope it helps
v. gameplay mods
i use so many mods to overhaul the gameplay so there will be some omissions. i’ll do my best to provide the most important ones (ignoring the ones previously mentioned)
economy and careers: uni part-time jobs for teens - lower wages - no 20k simoleons handout - loan jar (afaik lamaresims is working on a version to enforce regular payments) - custom bills (750%) - expensive bills for apartments (300%) - private school bill fix (in moreawesomethanyou-al.zip; charges the household 200 simoleons each school day for a child in private school) - lamare’s job options mods - 50% job promotion chance - restricted job offers - work food delivery
food & eating: basically @/jacky93sims's whole library
lifespan & health: lifespan (modified as follows, baby to elder: 3 - 7 - 14 - 21 - 91 - 7-14; i will make the adult lifespan longer still given that i play very slowly, it works as young adult and adult stages, and as is i don’t see many sims of gen 1 living to meet their grandchildren) - more dangerous fires - frequent & faster disease processing
personality: 3t2 traits project and associated mods
relationships and woohoo: acr - romantic standards - reproductive capabilities configurer - pregnant sims wear any outfit
supernatural/occults: plantsims can change hairstyle - no more leafy hair - no more werewolf hair - child lycanthropy - werewolf fangs fix - werewolf transformation 3 nights a week + no personality change vampires can’t eat food - vampire motive decay during day based on aspiration + vampire hunger goes down at night & social/fun decay- hereditary supernaturalism
travel and community lots: visit other sims - community time (+ limeyyoshi’s fix, reuploaded bc i cannot find it)
university: semester changes - pets at university - maternity for young adults - maternity outfit fixed for young adults
misc: planting overhaul - monique’s hacked computer, which i use to give sims separate bank accounts, study skills and badges online, and so on (1 - 2 - 3 - 4) - townie apartment residents - community lot skilling - engagement and wedding ring for color traits - invisible medicine cabinet (so sims can brush teeth and wash face with any mirror) - shiftable everything - midgethetree’s mods - fix subhood selection - longer seasons (7 days)

🛑 Subscription Fatigue: You Don’t Own Sh-t Anymore
Tumblr media
The Great Ownership Heist—And You Paid for It
Once upon a time, when you bought something, it was yours. Forever. No extra fees. No fine print. Just a simple transaction: money exchanged for permanent ownership.
Now? Welcome to Subscription Hell—where you don’t own sh-t anymore, but you sure as hell keep paying for it.
In the last 15 years, corporations have collectively f-cked us over by shifting from selling products to selling access. The goal? Make sure you never actually own anything again.
And somehow, we just let it happen.
📉 The Subscription Takeover: How You Got Trapped
Remember when you bought CDs and they were yours forever? When you bought a game and played it whenever you wanted, without an online connection or a monthly charge? When software didn’t demand a recurring payment just so you could type a damn document?
Those days are dead.
Instead of a one-time purchase, everything is now a rental. ✅ Music? Spotify. Apple Music. Tidal. ✅ Movies? Netflix. Disney+. HBO Max. (Oh wait—it’s just “Max” now because marketing execs are idiots.) ✅ Video Games? Xbox Game Pass. PlayStation Plus. Nintendo Switch Online. ✅ Software? Adobe Creative Cloud. Microsoft 365. Even f-cking calculator apps now have subscriptions.
Everything is locked behind a paywall. And the best part? You never actually own any of it.
💸 You Will Own Nothing—And Pay Monthly for It
We used to buy things. Now we “subscribe.” And this shift wasn’t an accident. It was a slow, calculated effort to make you permanently dependent on corporations.
Think about it:
A one-time purchase = company makes money once.
A subscription model = company makes money forever.
It’s not just greed—it’s financial entrapment.
📌 Want to listen to your favorite music? Too bad—Spotify just removed your favorite album. Pay up or be at the mercy of whatever they decide to keep. 📌 Want to keep using Photoshop? Adobe wants $20 a month for eternity. Cancel? Poof—no access. 📌 Bought a car? Congratulations! Your heated seats now require a f-cking subscription.
Wait. Cars?! Yes.
🚗 BMW’s $18-a-Month Heated Seat Scam: The Final Boss of Greed
If you want a perfect example of how far this bullsh-t has gone, look no further than BMW.
BMW now charges a subscription for heated seats in some of their cars. Yes, you read that right.
The seats are already installed. The heating element is physically there in the car you bought. But unless you pay BMW $18 a month, they won’t let you use it.
Let that sink in.
You own the car. You own the seats. But the company still controls what you can access.
It’s like buying a house and being told you have to pay a subscription to use your own kitchen.
This is the future.
Tumblr media
🎮 Gaming: Where You Pay to Rent the Past
Gaming used to be simple. You bought a game. You played it. It was yours. Now? Everything is a f-cking subscription.
🎮 Xbox Game Pass – Pay monthly or lose access. 🎮 PlayStation Plus – Rent your library or watch it vanish. 🎮 Nintendo Switch Online – Oh, you thought you could play old NES games? Pay up.
And it gets worse.
Now, developers release unfinished games and patch them later. Want a full experience? Buy the DLC. Oh, you wanted to actually own the game? Too bad, it’s “live service” now.
In 2004, you could walk into a store and buy Halo 2, a complete game, for $50. In 2024, you spend $70 on a game that isn’t even finished and still get hit with battle passes, microtransactions, and pay-to-win mechanics.
And yet—we just accept it.
📚 Digital Books: You Don’t Even Own the Words Anymore
🚨 Amazon can delete books from your Kindle remotely. This isn’t a conspiracy—it already happened.
In 2009, Amazon literally deleted George Orwell’s 1984 and Animal Farm from people’s Kindles without warning. The irony? A dystopian book about government control vanished from devices overnight.
If you “buy” a Kindle book, you’re not actually buying it. You’re purchasing a license to read it.
This means:
If Amazon wants to remove it, they can.
If your account is banned, you lose everything.
If they change the Terms of Service, tough luck.
You don’t own sh-t. You’re just renting access to words on a screen.
💀 Welcome to the Paywall Apocalypse
Subscription fatigue isn’t just annoying. It’s economic warfare.
Everything is now a pay-per-month nightmare, and the endgame is control.
🔴 Digital art? Subscriptions. 🔴 Smart homes? Subscriptions. 🔴 Car features? Subscriptions. 🔴 F-cking TOOTHBRUSHES?! Yes, there’s now a subscription service for toothbrush heads.
The goal is simple: Make sure you never fully own anything again.
🛠️ Can We Fight Back?
Honestly? It’s hard. These companies engineered dependence so well that it’s nearly impossible to escape. But here’s what you can do:
✅ BUY physical media. DVDs, CDs, game cartridges—real sh-t that can’t be deleted remotely. ✅ AVOID auto-renewing subscriptions. Make them work for your money. ✅ Look for one-time purchase alternatives. Stop paying Adobe $600 a year for Photoshop when one-time payment alternatives exist. ✅ Support anti-DRM (Digital Rights Management) products. If a company lets you actually own what you buy, reward them.
We probably can’t stop the subscription model entirely, but we can slow it down by refusing to throw money at companies who abuse it.
🚨 FINAL THOUGHT: THEY DON’T WANT YOU TO OWN ANYTHING—BECAUSE OWNERSHIP IS POWER
Owning something means independence. Owning something means they can’t take it away. Owning something means freedom.
That’s why corporations are systematically stripping away ownership in favor of perpetual payments. They don’t want you to have assets—they want you to have bills.
Welcome to the new world order: 💰 Own nothing. Pay forever.
And the worst part?
We let them do it.
💀 REBLOG if you’re tired of paying for sh-t you should already own. 💬 COMMENT the worst subscription scam you’ve seen. 🥩 LIKE if you miss the days of actually owning things. 🚀 FOLLOW for more savage takes, economic red pills, and the dark truth about the world.

Shadowheart steals Shar's powers and becomes a goddess, then turns mortal Shar into the office intern.
"I AM THE NIGHTSINGER. I AM THE LADY OF LOSS"
Beep! 🤖 "paper jam in feeder 3" 🤖
Shar spends several moments grumbling and opening compartments to the office printer before she's finally able clear the jam. The cute girl from marketing walks by and sees Shar struggling, hoping this delay doesn't mean she'll be late for their dinner date this evening.
"I am... the Dark Lady..." She has to reset her print settings now after clearing the jam due to a software glitch. She's pushing buttons on the screen. "My embrace..." she's now pressing buttons on the number pad beside the screen to adjust how many copies she needs as all as the margins of her copies. "My endless darkness..." she presses print, and the machine makes a pleasant chime and the sound of paper being pulled through the rollers and gently deposited in the tray for collection fill the air.
Beep-boop 🤖 "please replace toner!" 🤖
"Hells, I've forgotten to place an order to Barcus's emporium..." She grumbles, fearing her mistresses wrath for this oversight.
She collects all 50 copies of office paperwork and as she fans through them...
All 50 pages are pictures of her mistresses (admittedly) impressive phallus. Not a one are the important documents she needs to go over and sign off on and submit to her office manager.
"I am... I am..." Shar stammers as the shadows whirl in the room and her mistress appears beside her.
"I like that one best." The dark haired goddess says over her shoulder, pointing at one that appears to be of Shar in a pillory and fucked in front of hundreds of people.
Shar barely hears her. "This interference means I am unable to submit the trade agreements to Robertson!"
"Oh no," the goddess wags her finger "no excuses - those are due in the morning, you must submit them."
"But we are out of toner!"
"Fetch some more."
"Barcus closes shop just before my shift ends."
The goddesses hair turns white as she cradles her chin in her fingers. "...It appears there is an office depot near Waukeens Rest. They are open 24 hours, you should have no trouble acquiring the necessary supplies there. And because this is your own fault it, of course, is coming out of your wages. You all must make sacrifices in my service, after all."
"You don't pay me."
The silver goddess smirks. "Suppose that means I'll collect payment in other ways then."
As the goddess turns to depart, Shar reaches out and stops her. "Please... Mistress. A trip like that means I... I'll miss my evening date..." she all but whispers the words, an utterly pitiful look in her eyes.
The goddesses hair slowly turns dark again as she turns to face her. Grinning darkly. "What is a sacrifice if it has no meaning?"
And with that, the goddess disappears in a plume of shadowy smoke.
Shar stands there a moment. Silent. Then wails. "I AM THE LADY OF LOSS!"
"SHAR, MY COFFEE CUP IS EMPTY, I NEED MORE!" Shouts a voice from nearby.
"Yes... Office Manager Robertson...! I'll get... RIGHT on that...!" She forces out in a pleasant tone, abandoning her papers there. "My blessed darkness... MY darkness..."
All this because her chosen managed to steal Shar's place as a goddess...

MEET THE GHOST ADVENTURES CREW
Meet the Ghost Adventures crew/investigators as they interview eyewitnesses and historians at each haunted location, arming themselves with the stories of the ghosts they will later provoke and confront during their dusk-to-dawn lockdowns.
Tumblr media
ZAK BAGANS
Zak Bagans is the host, lead investigator and an executive producer on Ghost Adventures. With his paranormal investigation team, Zak travels to domestic and international locations rumored to be haunted in search of evidence proving the existence of the supernatural.
After graduating from film school in Michigan, Zak moved to Nevada to pursue a career in documentary filmmaking. There, he met fellow Ghost Adventures investigator Aaron Goodwin. Their first paranormal investigations as a team took place all over Nevada, and the footage led to an award-winning, nationally-televised documentary, Ghost Adventures. Their concept was picked up by Travel Channel and commissioned as a series. Zak is also host and executive producer of Ghost Adventures: Aftershocks, where the team revisits past locations to follow up on their initial investigation, and Deadly Possessions, which features the stories behind haunted, iconic items from Bagans’ Las Vegas museum collection. Bagans recently executive produced a feature film entitled “Sympathy, Said the Shark,” which has landed a distribution deal soon to be announced. Bagans also directed and produced a documentary, “The Demon House,” where he investigates one of the most well-documented case of demonic possession in America. The film is projected for a 2016 release.

Things I want to do in 2024
I've never been the type to make resolutions and I know we tend to put more weight on them than they actually are meant to have, hence why we never follow through with them. So! I am attempting to just make a list of things I am hoping to do in 2024. very low stakes. not going to think of these as goals, just things I want to do. and hope that I follow through with some of them.
Health-related
Planning my meals and keeping a food journal: I've been on a health journey for about the past year and I want to try to get back on track with that and be more consistent with it. I've been trying to be more consistent with preparing home cooked meals rather than relying on frozen meals/eating out, eating 3 meals a day etc, and that's been going well so far, but it could be better. I think one way to help myself be more consistent is planning my meals out (not like meal-prepping just literally being like this day I'm going to eat these things so I have a more structured "menu" vs throwing things together in my head the day of). I think I also want to start keeping a food journal. I peeped that iOS added a Journal app to the new software and I might try that out to see how useful it would be for food journaling, doing things like documenting my mood around the times I eat, what I eat etc.
Find a new dentist and start flossing: When I say I've been on a health journey over the last year I really mean in every possible way you can think of lol. Dental health was one of them. I've made a lot of improvements but I'm so prone to getting cavities that I think I could make a few more. I am one of the 60% of people who do not floss every day bc I found it hard/time-consuming/unnecessary. But I started doing it a couple weeks ago and... it wasn't so bad? I was pretty consistent with it until I went home for the holidays and that fell to crap bc I couldn't find the floss I had packed. anywho. I want to continue to be consistent with that and make that a habit, in addition to finding a new dentist bc the last one I saw was a bit too...assertive and I didn't like their staff so decided never to go back there again.
Personal/things that actually make me excited
Decorate my room: lol. Can you believe I've lived in my apt for two years and I've yet to decorate my room (even the bathroom has some stuff hung up on the walls). I literally have the decorations sitting in a pile by my bedroom door collecting dust. So yeah. I wanna actually do that. Tbf what stopped me before was that I wasn't confident I'd be able to stay in this apt for long. I thought for sure after a year they would jack up the price and I would be forced to move. But, we're now going on three years and things have been fine so I should actually properly decorate the place.
✨ Get a tattoo ✨ The sparkles are because this is probably the thing I'm most excited about on this list. I have wanted a tattoo for as long as I can remember. And I finally decided last year that I was going to say fuck it and get one. But unfortunately the finances weren't financing so it got delayed. But it's happening this year!! For sure!!! Hopefully in the next few months!! I need to stop delaying it and just do it!! So yeah. I've made my best friend keep me accountable each step of the way so I can stop procrastinating. So she gave me a deadline of Friday, 1/5 to at least have a list of tattoo artists I'm considering. We're doing this!!!
Actually leave my house and spend time in places I enjoy: Since my two closest friends moved away last year I haven't had a lot of incentive to go out and do things. So I've just been spending a lot of time at home by myself. And solitude is so nice. So comfortable. So blissful. But I need to end that. Or at least cut down on it a little. There are things I actively want to do in my city but every time the weekend comes I end up staying in my house doing nothing for 2 days straight. And it's been great. But I need to push myself to actually go out and do things by myself. Go to live music concerts, hang out at bookstores or coffee shops. Just something to have a change of pace and environment. I know I will be better for it. I'm gonna challenge myself to go out by myself at least once a month. If I do more? great. But we're starting small.
Writing-related
Track my writing: I'm not going to push myself to have word count goals or anything like that because I think that would be counter productive and take the fun out of writing for me. I actually wrote a lot last year (I just calculated it - 174, 817 words according to Scrivener; kinda insane can't remember the last time I wrote that much in a year) so I don't think I have issues with word quantity or writing enough and if it ain't broke don't fix it! But I do want to track my writing a little more closely. I just think it could be fun tracking the stats behind it and looking back at it at the end of the year. and also maybe help me continue this consistency with writing that I've suddenly developed?
Write something for fun: I can't tell you how much it hurts me that I don't have any fun/silly projects that I can work on on the side that I don't care about getting perfect. I think it will be nice and freeing and challenge my writing chops a bit to write something completely out of my comfort zone, totally absurd, and purely for my enjoyment. I've just been too crippled with fear to even try and idk why. I want to do it so badly but I struggle with coming up with ideas (and with working on more than one thing at once). We'll see it if it happens. this is just a list of things I want to do who knows if I'll actually do them.
Finish the second draft of MDE: just gonna throw this one in here out of obligation. refer to the last sentence of the previous bullet point. I wrote half of it in a year, maybe it's possible to write the other half in a year?
If you made it this far, thank you for reading. gonna come back to this in 6 months and see if anything I listed here actually panned out lol

Bookkeeping Mistakes Made By Small Businesses: How To Avoid Them
Tumblr media
Small and Medium-sized businesses are eager to grow, but they often miss the fundamentals like understanding the value of Bookkeeping which may undermine business procedures.
Accounting is often overlooked by business owners who consider it easy. Incorrect accounting and bookkeeping processes may adversely impact any company’s finances. Recurring bookkeeping errors can actually bankrupt your business.
Bookkeeping Mistakes
Keeping financial records is a very important part of running a business, big or small. Bookkeeping that is accurate and well-organized makes sure that your financial records are up-to-date and precise, which helps you make good decisions and compliance with legal policies.
There are however some mistakes that small businesses often make with their books. Here are some of these mistakes.
Failure To Keep Records
Some small businesses fail to keep accurate financial records, which can lead to confusion and errors. Record-keeping is an essential process in organizing your financial records. Adopt best practices and create a system for organizing and storing your financial documents. These relevant documents may include invoices, receipts, and bank statements. It is helpful to consider using accounting software to automate the process and centralize everything.
Irregular Reconciling of Accounts
Failure to reconcile your bank and credit card accounts on a regular basis can lead to inconsistencies and inaccuracies. Reconciliation entails matching your financial records with your bank and credit card statements. Reconcile your accounts on a regular basis and resolve any discrepancies quickly to avoid problems.
Combining Personal and Business-Related Finances
It is critical to separate your personal and business finances by avoiding using personal accounts for business transactions. This can complicate bookkeeping and make it difficult to accurately track expenses and income. You must establish a separate business bank account and use it solely for business transactions.
Inconsistent Categorization
It is critical to properly categorize your income and expenses for accurate financial reporting. Refrain from inconsistent or ambiguous categorization, as it can make evaluating of your company’s financial health a lot more difficult. It will be helpful to create a chart of accounts with distinct categories that correspond to your field of business and use it regularly.
Neglecting Cash Transactions
Small businesses often transact in cash, which can be overlooked easily and not properly recorded. To ensure that cash transactions are accurately accounted for, use cash registers, petty cash logs, or digital tools. Better yet, set up a system for keeping track of and documenting all cash transactions, including sales and expenses.
Failure To Keep Track of Receivables and Payables
Failure to maintain track of unpaid invoices (accounts receivable) and bills to be paid (accounts payable) might jeopardize your cash flow and client-vendor relationships. Use accounting software with invoicing and payment tracking features to implement a structured strategy for monitoring and following up on both receivables and payables.
Mishandling Payroll
Payroll can be complicated, and mistakes can have legal and financial ramifications. Keep up with advances in payroll requirements, calculate wages and taxes accurately, and make timely payments to employees and tax authorities. To ensure accuracy and compliance, consider adopting efficient payroll software or you can also outsource payroll duties.
Failure To Keep Backup of Records
Financial records might be lost because of corrupted data, hardware failure, or other unanticipated factors. Back up your financial data on a regular basis and keep it secure. Cloud accounting software can back up your data automatically to add an extra degree of security.
Neglect To Track and Remit Sales Taxes
If your company is obligated to collect sales taxes, it is critical that you track and remit them appropriately. Understand your sales tax duties, register with the proper tax authorities, and maintain accurate sales and tax collection records. To simplify the process, consider employing seamless sales tax automation software.
Doing-It-Yourself
This is a critical error that can have serious consequences for your company. Because bookkeeping is a complex process, it is best to seek professional help from a bookkeeper or accountant to set up and review your bookkeeping system on a regular basis. They can assist you in avoiding mistakes, providing financial insights, and ensuring tax compliance.
You can reduce the likelihood of these frequent errors and retain accurate financial records for your small business by being proactive and following appropriate bookkeeping practices with the help of expert bookkeepers and record-keepers.
How to Avoid Bookkeeping Errors
To avoid bookkeeping errors some proactive steps must be taken by small business owners. This may include familiarizing yourself with basic bookkeeping principles and practices to help you navigate your financial records effectively and make informed decisions.
This can be further established by using a good bookkeeping system coupled with reliable accounting software. As a business owner, it is important to invest in a reputable accounting software solution that suits the needs of your business and reduces errors.
In addition, it is important to reconcile accounts regularly to ensure your financial records match financial statements to help identify discrepancies and errors promptly.
Keep meticulous records by maintaining detailed records of all financial transactions and accept that it is always best to seek professional assistance from reliable bookkeepers and record-keepers who specializes in small business finances.
By implementing these practices, small business owners can reduce the likelihood of committing bookkeeping errors while maintaining accurate financial records.
The Bottomline
When you own a company, you put yourself in a position to take advantage of many different possibilities, including the chance to learn from your errors. When it comes to making mistakes, the key to success is to steer clear of those that are readily apparent and cut down on others as much as you possibly can. Remember that good bookkeeping and record-keeping practices contribute to informed decision-making and long-term business success.
Consider this list seriously and implement its suggestion so you will be well on your way to running your business in profitable ways and expanding it in all ways possible.
There is more that you can achieve with the most reliable team of professional bookkeepers and record-keepers. Visit us now and get started!

With a little forethought and meticulous planning, tax preparation can be a breezy, walk-in-the-park experience, saving you not only precious time but also potential penalties for mistakes or late submissions.
In this article, we'll dive headfirst into a wealth of expert tips, savvy strategies, and best practices for tax preparation that promise to transform your filing season from a stress-inducing nightmare into a seamless and orderly process.
From understanding how to maximize your deductions, to organizing your financial paperwork, to deciding whether to enlist the help of a professional, we'll equip you with all the tools and knowledge you need to tackle your tax preparation with confidence and ease.
Organize Your Financial Records
The foundation of a smooth tax preparation process is well-organized financial records. To ensure accuracy and efficiency in preparing your taxes, follow these steps for organizing your financial documents:
1. Gather all essential documents: Begin by collecting critical financial records related to your income, deductions, and credits. These may include W-2 forms, 1099 forms, bank statements, receipts for charitable donations, and business expense documentation.
2. Categorize and sort your records: Separate your financial documents into clearly defined categories, such as income, business expenses, and deductions. This approach will make it easier to locate and reference specific documents when preparing your tax return.
3. Use a system for tracking expenses: Implementing a consistent method for recording and tracking your expenses throughout the year, such as financial software or a dedicated expense journal, can greatly simplify the tax preparation process.
4. Store documents securely: Keep your financial records in a secure location, whether it's a physical filing cabinet or encrypted digital storage. This ensures easy access to essential information while protecting your sensitive financial data.
Understand Your Tax Obligations and Deadlines
Staying informed about your tax obligations and deadlines is essential for avoiding penalties or other consequences. To ensure you're educated and prepared for tax season, consider the following tips:
1. Stay up-to-date on tax laws: Tax laws and regulations can change frequently, so make a point to stay informed about any updates or changes that may impact your tax return.
2. Identify the appropriate tax forms: Depending on your financial circumstances, you may need to complete various tax forms. Ensure you've correctly identified and obtained the necessary forms prior to beginning your tax preparation process.
3. Familiarize yourself with relevant tax credits and deductions: Research and understand the tax credits and deductions available to you, enabling you to maximize your tax savings.
4. Be aware of tax deadlines: Missing tax filing deadlines can result in costly penalties. Mark the relevant tax deadlines on your calendar, and consider filing your return early to avoid last-minute stress.
Avoid Common Tax Filing Mistakes
Mistakes during the tax preparation process can lead to delays, penalties, or even audits. To safeguard against errors, follow these guidelines:
1. Double-check your personal information: Confirm that critical details, such as your Social Security number and address, are correct on your tax return.
2. Report all income: Ensure that you report all forms of income, including freelance work, investment income, or gig economy earnings.
3. Verify your deductions and credits: Carefully review your deductions and credits to ensure you’ve followed the guidelines and have correctly calculated the amounts claimed.
4. File electronically: Electronic filing reduces the likelihood of errors and offers faster processing times for tax refunds.

”Dear Sun,
I hope you and your fiancée are doing well, as well as Alpenglow. We are all alright over here.
I was instructed by my creator to give this book to you when things became stable. He can explain better than I, but…You are the goddess of the waking worlds. Both he and I know (and knew) that this is a large responsibility to bear. Equally so, we believe you are the most capable to bear it. I do as well, but I cannot watch past my domain.
This book is the Encyclopedia Poetica Circo, a voluminous collection of the various findings, functions, processes, characters, textures, concepts, mechanics, memories, files, records, etc. of this computer and it’s surrounding history, hardware, software, company, and so on, as well as various smaller collections of personal or connected documents and information. My creator spent his last days in Reality compiling this, and instructed me to give it to you. I believe you will use it well. This little book is incredibly powerful. I need you to understand that, you could change the “world” with this.
It functions similarly to a file search, just on pages. Use the page as an ink-and-paper touchscreen.
Best of luck,
Dusk, The Mourning Goddess”
Sun... places the letter aside, staring into the huge book's cover page. Hesitatingly, she reaches towards it, "typing" out 'tent' with her fingers as a test.

ahh I'm starting my 1st year at university next week. I'm so nervous, do you have any tips? ^-^
hiiii anon!!!!!!!!!
ohhhh its been, what, 3 years since i was last in uni for my teaching pgce!
i'd say, enjoy fresher's week (in england that's what that 1st week is called) - and explore the area both in and around the campus, so that you're comfortable with it and know where to go for what you need/how long it'll take to go from place A to B. i also took time out to find out about the transport sevices nearby (train stations, buses etc) and supermarkets too. also, during that week, i'd make sure all my logins/my id card/library card etc were up and running and functioning properly - every year i did this, bc that would alwaaays be a problem for someone or the other in my class.
don't overly panic about the workload. i used to set aside one day for each unit of my course, and study through my notes and the lectures in it. don't rewrite your notes either - i did, and it was a waste of time and energy and paper. just add to them, when you do do independent study.
i know we weren't allowed to do this, but sometimes, i used to sneakily record my lectures on my phone if i felt like i was going to struggle with a particular topic in that lecture (nobody needed to know i was doing that so yaaa 🤫🤫🤫). i'd go home, listen through it during independent study, and it helped me a lot! then of course i'd delete the recording.
prepare for your assignments well in advance. usually, in the 1st few weeks, professors lay out what the overview of the unit will look like and when assignments will be collected in. so, just make a note of them all in your diary/planner and get started on them atleast 4-6 weeks before deadline.
know what format of citation your university uses, and familiarise yourself with it. for my assignments, the best thing i did was having a word document and putting every source i came across and researched into it during my planning/research stage of the assignment (that's usually 5 weeks before deadline day - i'd have a whole week just dedicated to research), and i'd just cite it there and then as i collected my sources. it saved so much time at the end bc i wasn't in a panic, to the point where i didnt even need to use citation softwares bc i would do them by hand and memory.
obviously, do the basics - enjoy yourself, and remember that it is only your first year. don't work yourself up into a state. look after yourself and eat and sleep and get some fresh air!! go out and have fun and explore the place! i was in manchester for university for 7 years (bc i did my undergrad and postgrad there) and even though i knew the place already bc i live so near to it, still, explore explore explore! if you are going to be working and studying at the same time, please please please look after yourself!
and i think personally, for me, ever since i started uni, i've changed what my entire day looks like and i've clung onto that habit ever since - of waking up early. it was super hard to begin with, making myself get up at 7am everyday (sometimes even 6am), but i got so much done and the day is so much longer and you get time for yourself! its not an easy habit, but, give it a try - wake up early if you can, and see how you feel. i hated it at first, but now? i love it!
so yeah!! enjoy yourself, anon! uni can feel daunting, but i promise you, once you find your footing, you'll really enjoy it!
