Today being the last day of 3ds online has me feeling very nostalgic and wistful. I love the switch but it does not have the magic of the 3ds. It's not just about dual screens, it was the accessibility. It was less expensive, more portable, had more cheap games you could play with your friends, and a lot of people underestimate just how fantastic some 3ds games are. Streetpass alone was a phenomenon, and along with 3ds menu themes, illustrates a sort of magic that I feel nintendo has been losing sight of since the switch.

With the way games are going in the modern day (higher price tags and system reqs, tons of focus on AAA titles, people needing graphics to be absurdly good for no practical reason), I find myself latching onto my older games more and more. Sure, some of it is a nostalgia-tinted lens, memories from a happier and simpler time of life. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Even after the online services go down, I'll always be playing my 3ds until the hardware breaks to unusability and I can't find another one. I'll play locally with my friends whenever we can. I lament how things must change, but I go on anyway. Here's to my favorite console ever made, may it never really die.

I love it when my friends comment on how I'm randomly online on my Xbox account but I test consoles as part of my job so I get paid to play rdr2 on company time 💪

#rdr2 is actually the best game for us to use because it really puts the specs of the consoles to test so we use it as part of our guideline #the red dead test we call it lol #because we know the game was specifically made for console so if there's any lag or screen tearing then we know somethings up with it #the guidelines are usually along the lines of is the hardware ok? is the power supply ok? does it run rdr2? ok all good then #in basic terms lol #<3 #mick squeaks #rdr2 #red dead redemption 2 #arthur morgan #red dead redemption community #funnies

Personally I think a lot of opinions about which Monster Hunter games are "good" and which are "bad" just comes from people failing to recognize that Monster Hunter has two different mainline lineages going at this point, each of which are supposed to emphasize different aspects of the series and create a more distinct experience between them to make it more worth experiencing both. And some people won't like both lines! That's ok! It doesn't mean they're bad, it just means the style of that line isn't for you.

#personally i view their decision to make the portable and console lines more distinct is a good one and lines up with their other recent #choices for the game #i think that limiting themselves by only letting their console releases be as good as they can translate to handheld #would be a bad choice #so i like that theyve gone in the direction where they take advantage of consoles to their full potential to really focus on the #ecological aspects of the game and create really expansive detailed worlds #meanwhile they use the portable for more classic monhun graphics and seem to be emphasizing #creative. fast paced. and personalized combat in portable #and i think in doing so they've created a fantastic system for keeping their fans as happy as possible #rather than using the old method of portable being the same as console with some tweaks #and this lines up with their switch from doing g-rank expansions as whole new games #to dlc expansions #but yeah i think ultimately we're only going to be able to compare portable and console releases so much #because its clear they're going for very different things with them #and i think this decision is best for fans because we get the best of both worlds #console fans get what they want. portable fans get what they want. and neither line has to be beholden to what the other #is doing yknow?#monster hunter

i’ve been wanting to play this specific iteration of the series for years since i was in like middle school and didn’t have the chance to get it, so i tried looking through shopping sites to see if they had it at reasonable prices but alas they were either $500+ or not listed at all

maybe someday ill find it secondhand!!

edit: i might’ve exaggerated a bit but it was like.. nearly $200 for the game at the very least

The Steam Deck is now cheaper than a Nintendo Switch in some places. And the Steam Deck can emulate anything with about an hour of setup!

#i got one like a year and a bit ago on sale but they're now just that price as standard #almost exclusively play emulated nintendo ds and n64 games and VNs but it also runs like. anything a mid-range gaming PC can run.#which is pretty damn impressive to me. it boggles me mind what you can get on that lil screen.#plus its also a handheld linux pc if you close steam (which is a built in feature)#anyway point is its nuts that its now the best value handheld console imo #(its probably the old model without the fancy new screen they released last year but like. you dont need that.)#i am playing 20 year old DS games they only have 3 polygons.
