Being perpetually early was a good habit until it left me bored and looking up from my phone every few seconds. Of course, it was always a stranger, and we would exchange quick smiles when we made eye contact. However, my nervousness increased each time it wasn’t Jordan.
As I replied to a voice note from Sydney, I wondered why Jordan asked to train with me today. Last year, they basically forced me to train with them all the time after our first match.
“You can’t be one of Brink’s new favorites and be this bad at basic combat,” they’d insisted.
Every match was horrible, and I thought I was going to die each time. Though Jordan never hit me hard, they were still intense, and my heart felt like it was going to pound out of my chest at the end. When I passed my Intro to Combat class, Jordan agreed that we didn’t have to train together as much but they still expected me to practice.
I gulped at the thought and sent off the comment.
At least I was in shape.
“Lookin’ good, Y/N,” a deep voice called.
When I glanced up, Chad Mitchell and Thad Browne, the Alpha Tau vice president and treasurer, were walking up the gym steps. A pair of skinny blondes in Lululemon leggings exiting the gym gasped at the two of them. Chad grinned widely, revealing his movie-star smile, and Thad winked at them as they passed. No one could blame any girl for staring at two tall broad-shouldered guys in Gymshark t-shirts, Gymshark shorts, white Nike ankle socks, and Nike sneakers.
Chad pushed his dark blonde hair away from his face while he towered over me.
I straightened up a little. “Oh, thanks, Chad.”
“I never thanked you for warning me about trying to do a backflip during the Get Lei’d party,” Chad said.
“It’s no problem; I’m glad I had a vision about it in time.”
“But it would’ve been awesome if you landed a backflip from the house roof!” Thad interrupted.
Chad glanced at him. “The broken nose and knee would not have been worth it.” He turned back to me, eyes roaming the black Alo Yoga set I wore before making it back to my eyes. “So, was rush a success for Si Chi?”
I swallowed and folded my arms over my chest. “I would say so; Bid Day will be interesting. How about Alpha Tau?”
“We always get the best,” Thad interjected, chuckling.
“Yeah, ours aren’t looking bad. You know, after Bid Day’s over, Alpha Tau and Si Chi should have a mixer; make sure all our recruits get to know each other,” Chad proposed.
He placed his hand on the wall beside me, right next to my head, and leaned closer. The scent of musk was nauseating, and I turned away from him to cover my nose with my jacket.
“You should reach out to Alina about that; she’s in charge of social events,” I rushed.
Chad nodded but I wasn’t sure he listened. “Yeah, Thad, do that.”
“Cool,” Thad agreed.
“You seem a little jumpy, Y/N. Are you waiting for your boyfriend or something?” Chad asked.
Last year, Thad and Chad ignored me, opting to hover around Alina and Sasha. I guess my warning impressed Chad at the end of the year Get Lei’d party. Plus, it wasn’t like either of them were bad prospects but each time Chad looked at me, it was like ants were crawling over my skin.
“Sort of.”
“Doesn’t sound like you’re too sure. Why don’t you warm up with Thad and me? I’m sure he won’t mind.”
That would be the worst idea since acid-washed jeans. However, Si Chi and Alpha Tau were close houses and one had to maintain the balance between them. Sydney and Lydia always made it look so easy.
“I can’t leave you alone for five minutes?” Jordan’s voice cut through the air as she strolled up the steps, irritation clear on her feminine features.
Suddenly, Chad was about a foot away from me, both hands in front of him for a second before he finally put them back at his sides. Thad looked as though he saw a ghost as he moved to stand next to Chad.
“My bad, Jordan, I didn’t know she was with you,” Chad rambled.
“Yeah, man, we had no idea,” Thad added.
Jordan glared at both as she moved to stand next to me. “You can go away now.”
I never saw them move so quickly and when they were gone, I stared at Jordan. “What was that?”
She shrugged. “They know their place. Were you waiting long?”
“No, they just happened to beat you here. Thanks, by the way.”
“Don’t worry about it. Do you have to see them a lot?”
“Kind of and this is the first time either has been that close to me.”
“I thought frat guys were every sorority girl’s type.”
I scrunched my nose. “Not the stereotypical ones.”
“Oh, I forgot, you’re the pickiest girl I know.”
I huffed and gently pushed her shoulder, but she didn’t miss a step as we walked towards the gym entrance. “Don’t judge me for having standards.”
“It’s not my fault that you’re easy to tease.”
Since Jordan rented out the training space, it was quiet outside of the few grunts and weights clanging in the neighboring weight room. The entire space was reinforced for any power mishaps and the focal point was the blue mat in the middle of the space with a large black ring lining its perimeter. I groaned as Jordan pushed on my back, forcing me closer to the mat and making my inner thighs burn in the splits.
“I thought yoga was supposed to make you flexible,” she quipped.
“I am, but I think you like seeing me in pain,” I replied.
“Never,” she teased. “So…did you get anything else on Emma?”
Her words made me stiffen and I sat up on my forearms and shook my head. “Something’s blocking me. Usually, even when I can’t see clear images, I get blurry images but it’s like something has shut off that part of my brain.”
It was the same issue last night when Jordan, Marie, Andre, Cate, and I went looking for Emma. All I could see was her with that guy I never met. Even though everyone said it was okay, their sulking shoulders and lack of eye contact spoke louder; especially Marie’s.
When I got back to the house last night, I gave myself a migraine trying to find Emma and it took me forever to stop hyperventilating. I could have killed Andre for coming up with the dumbest plan on planet earth.
“Don’t worry about it,” Jordan said, cutting through my thoughts.
She let me sit up and I turned to her.
“I just feel useless. Finding things out is the one thing I’m good at and I can’t even do that?”
“Hey, it’s not the one thing you’re good at. You’re good at dancing, studying, fashion, and helping other people.”
Jordan’s tone was earnest and matter-of-fact; no one could have argued with her and I suddenly felt all fuzzy.
I smiled. “I am the best-dressed on campus.”
“Relax, we’ll find Emma, just focus on what you can do. Like, trying not to get knocked out of bounds four times in a row.”
I scoffed at Jordan but she grinned at me. “Maybe you should take your own advice.”
“Oh, she has an attitude now?”
“Maybe you just bring it out of me.” I pushed myself up to stand. “Usual rules?”
“I won’t use any powers outside of shifting, you can use yours as much as you want, no cheap shots, and the one knocked out of bounds the most loses.”
“I can’t wait to try the new sushi place at the union; Shelby said it’s amazing.”
“You’ll be trying it on your own dime.”
Jordan always got cocky when sparring. Now that Luke was gone, Jordan was the best fighter on campus. Whenever we trained, I tried to use wiping that big smirk off their face as motivation and it never worked. The best I ever managed to do was not break anything.
Jordan’s smirk never left her face as we squared off from each other. I took the deepest breath I could and tried to quiet my mind. Seconds later, my mind filled with the image of Jordan going for a right hook. I blocked her and went for a jab of my own, skimming her left cheek.
“Not bad,” she huffed as she dodged it. “You need to hold your upper body better; anyone could knock you off balance right now.”
Based on a brief flash, I knew that she was either going to sweep me or push me to prove her point. So, when she went to push me, I slipped away from her, maintaining my guard. She blew a piece of hair out of her face.
“What was that about my balance?” I panted.
“Don’t get cocky, freshie, I won’t go so easy on you,” She taunted.
My heart might have skipped a beat as I took a risk based on a vision and rushed her. When I saw she was going to shift, I stopped just short of Jordan’s reach, slipped down, and swept her feet. Just when I was going to make contact, she backflipped, shifted in the middle of the back flip, and landed in a crouch.
His elated expression made the hairs on the back of my neck stand as he stalked towards me. Our sparring match continued with me utilizing my ability as well as I could to get in the best hits. My heart hammered in my chest as I kept up with their ever-changing forms and fighting styles. In between jabs, Jordan continued giving me tips.
“Use your full body weight with each punch.”
“Your right roundhouse has gotten stronger, that’s good.”
“You’re dropping your left elbow too much when you weave.”
I did my best to incorporate all their tips into the sparring match and even got a couple of hits on them. At one point, Jordan and I exchange a flurry of punches and blocks and for the first time, I almost laughed while fighting them.
It was…fun.
I was able to get some distance between us before attempting another roundhouse kick that was guaranteed to make contact with the side of his head. Just as I was about to kick out my left leg, Jordan shifted to their female form and tackled me. Her grip was harsh around my shoulders while mine struggled to hold onto hers because of the sweat. I paused and noticed she was practically drenched and panting over me. A few strands of black hair fell out of her ponytail and stuck to her forehead, and she was still so pretty.
She seemed to pause as well and raised her eyebrows at me. “Focus on the fight.”
Her words stirred something in me, and I focused on what could be my best move.
The image was only a few seconds long but it almost left me catatonic went it ended. If this didn’t work, I had no idea how I would live it down.
Quickly, I leaned up and closed the distance between us.  Jordan’s lips were so soft against mine and I yelped a little when her body pressed more into mine. Her soft breaths felt like whispers over my face as she kissed me back and I squirmed underneath her.
Focus, Y/N, focus! My mind screamed.
As casually as I could, I pushed my wrists against Jordan’s hands, and a second later, she loosened her grip. Her fingers trailed down my arms as my legs wrapped around her waist, pulling her even closer to me. When I felt her smile against my lips, my stomach sunk.
Sorry.
The leverage I had around her waist was useful as my hands grabbed her shoulders and swung her down onto the mat. Jordan gasped as we pulled away and my hands captured her wrists. “What the---”
“I win!” I cheered.
“No, you just pinned me,” Jordan rasped.
I shook my head and gestured to her right hand, which was just over the out-of-bounds line. In the dozens of fights we had, this was the first time that I won. If I could fly, I would have probably been floating. When I looked back at Jordan’s face, I came back to earth.
“Oh, sorry,” I muttered, releasing her wrists and pushing myself to stand. “And I’m sorry about kissing you without warning.”
When I extended my hand, she looked at it as though it was a cobra ready to strike. After a few seconds, Jordan took the risk and let me help her up. Then, she walked back over to her bag, grabbed her water bottle, and chugged.
“It’s okay, uh, just don’t make out with everyone you fight with; that’s how you catch mono,” Jordan rambled.
I wrinkled my nose. “Ew, I wouldn’t even think about it. With us, I knew it would be my best way to beat you.”
“You don’t have to explain yourself.”
Then, I took a second to look at Jordan. Something was off, she seemed tenser than she usually did after we sparred. Also, she stopped looking at me and started playing with the rings on her fingers. It had to be because of the stress of Emma missing and how there was more lurking on campus than anyone thought. That on top of Brink and Luke’s deaths would make anyone nervous.
Yes, that had to be it because those were the reasons my lips buzzed the entirety of the next training round.
The two extra rounds gave Jordan their bragging rights and no one could wipe the giant smile off her face as we wandered around campus. At the very least, the blazing sun provided some comfort from the cool breeze that blew past us. Since there were several classes in session, only a handful of people were hanging out, panic-studying, and Tik-Toking.
“You should have seen your face when you landed, it was gold!” she laughed.
“I’m glad it was entertaining,” I replied.
Jordan glanced at me, fished a protein bar out of her gym bag, and handed it to me. “Here.”
I shook my head. “I’m fine.”
Jordan paused in her walk to side eye me and I stopped as well. “Don’t give me that shit. I didn’t say anything earlier but, you look awful.”
“Thanks,” I muttered.
Jordan sighed. “That came out wrong; I mean, you look like you haven’t been taking care of yourself.”
The situation was almost laughably ironic since just a couple of days ago, I was sleeping like a baby. However, the Emma-shaped hole was enough to spike my anxiety and the final touches on Bid Day were not helpful either. If Alina tried to deny my top pick at this last meeting…
Oh no, I had totally forgotten to take my meds.
“It’s okay, you actually have perfect timing,” I replied, accepting the protein bar.
It wasn’t super chalky and even if it was, I didn’t care as I popped two of the pills from Shetty and chased it with water.
“You pop pills in public now, freshie?” Jordan joked.
I shook my head and nibbled on the protein bar. “They’re prescribed by Shetty. That explains why I was freaking out earlier.”
“With Dumb and Dumber?”
“Chad and Thad, and yes.” Jordan nodded. “So, they work?”
“Yeah. I probably would have been able to save you the trouble if I’d remembered.”
I put the pill bottle back in my bag as we continued walking. The medicine would take a while to kick in but it was better late than never.
“It wasn’t trouble,” Jordan said.
I didn’t know how to respond so all I could do was nod. In all honesty, I was still processing that kiss. Jordan must have reacted the way she did because she was so caught off guard. If Emma were here, she would help me process, that is if she was willing to speak to me.
“So, do you want me to buy you lunch today or tomorrow?” I asked.
Jordan shook her head. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Hey, I’m a good sport and I always hold up my end,” I tried to joke.
“Yeah, so it makes sense that I would do the mature thing and treat you to that sushi place you were talking about. You beat me for the first time and that shows how much you improved; I remember when you used to drop your guard every time you got scared.”
“It’s not my fault that my first instinct is to run!”
“You won’t always have the chance to run when you’re a supe. Now, I feel better about you being out there on your own.”
Her words made me swell with pride and I thanked her.
“Plus, there’s no one out there as good as me.” I playfully rolled my eyes. “Of course, it all goes back to you.”
“I’m being honest. Seriously, wherever you get a contract, you’ll kick ass especially if you practice more.”
“Fine, Mx. Li.”
At that moment, I couldn’t wait to go back to the house and shower. Class wasn’t for another hour and a half which gave me enough time to try and process everything.
“Is that Marie?” Jordan asked.
I paused and looked in the direction she nodded to. Across the way, Marie slowly approached the bleach-blonde weasel that was Rufus, who was smugly perched on an overpriced bench. He was (fake) reading a book and looking semi-thoughtful.
The protein bar suddenly felt like a rock in my throat.
“What’s she doing with Rufus?” I muttered.
Jordan didn’t reply and we both watched as the two started speaking. Then, Rufus set his book aside and reached his hands out to Marie.
“Shit!” Jordan exclaimed.
“Marie!” I called at the same time.
It was too late, as soon as her hands grazed his, they disappeared. Panic started rising up from the back of my neck and everything was suddenly quiet.
“Y/N!”
When I blinked, Jordan’s hands cupped my face, and our faces were nearly touching.
“Focus, where did Rufus take Marie?”
After taking a couple of seconds to focus on it, I answered Jordan, and she nearly yanked my arm out of its socket as she raced towards the location. A minute later, we were pushing past people in the dorm until we reached Rufus’ room. My stomach lurched at the muffled sounds of “True”.
“So, what’s the plan?” I asked.
Jordan didn’t respond. Instead, she took one step before kicking Rufus’ door down. The sound of the door hitting the ground should have made me jump but I was too busy staring at Marie’s blood-splattered face as she stared down at Rufus’ keeled over body on the floor. When he rolled onto his back, I saw all the blood covering his groin and the agony on his face.
Somehow, it was both disgusting and exhilarating to watch, kind of like those ridiculous mukbang videos.
I didn’t realize I was staring until Jordan tugged me by the arm down the hallway, Marie in tow. When we got a few hundred feet away, Jordan released us and glared daggers at Marie.
“What the hell was that?” Jordan demanded.
“I don’t know…I just exploded his dick,” Marie uttered, astonished.
“That was…wow,” I breathed.
Marie smiled, accepted the towel Jordan handed her, and wiped her face. “Thanks, I didn’t know I could do that.”
“Why were you talking to Rufus anyway? He’s a creep,” Jordan scolded.
Marie narrowed her eyes at Jordan. “We didn’t have any leads on Emma, and I heard he was a psychic.”
I winced at the jab.
Jordan rolled her eyes. “Rufus is not a psychic; he’s a perverted loser who takes advantage of anything with tits.”
“Gee, thanks,” Marie hissed. “I can take care of myself.”
She shoved the towel in Jordan’s chest and started storming down the hall. Immediately, we started following her and my irritation grew with each step.
“Fine, then I won’t rescue you next time,” Jordan called.
That made her stop and whirl around. “What?”
“I saved you back there, well, Y/N and I both did since she knew where Rufus would take you,” Jordan insisted.
Marie took a step towards us. “I exploded his dick; I didn’t need your help.”
“But I provided a distraction; tag-team cocksplosion here,” Jordan said, gesturing between the two.
“I’m okay being cut from this team,” I commented.
“Oh no, you’re in it too,” Jordan said.
Marie shook her head. “Weirdo.”
Jordan shrugged. “More importantly, Tek Knight is on campus and he’s doing a story on Luke’s death.”
Marie’s eyes widened and I had to stop my mouth from falling open. Tek Knight was the slimiest, most prolific true crime “journalist” on Vought TV. He covered only the buzziest stories, and it made sense he would be on campus. I thought I heard some guys talking about it during a lecture yesterday, but I was so preoccupied that I didn’t focus.
“He’s guest lecturing Shetty’s class today and he’s going to want to talk to you,” Jordan stated.
“Shit,” Marie cursed.
I ran my hands through the ends of my braids. “And if he even gets a hint of what might be going on, we could all be screwed.”
“So, what do we do?” Marie asked.
“If you decide to keep up the lie, don’t let him see you waver, he loves going after that shit,” Jordan grumbled.
Marie rolled her eyes. “Are we on this again?”
“Yeah, you lied!” Jordan snapped.
Quickly, I stepped between them. “Okay, this won’t get us anywhere. Just breathe for a second.”
They both did, eyes still shooting lasers.
“We need to think about this. Since you two are in Shetty’s class, you two will have to figure something out.”
“Are you taking her side?” Jordan accused.
“Are you taking theirs?” Marie asked.
“I’m not taking anyone’s,” I insisted. “If you two keep fighting, no one wins. Just go your separate ways for now and regroup before class?”
It was not my best work but they both seemed to agree as Jordan went one way and Marie started to head down the other. I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding and jogged to catch up to Marie.
“Hey!”
She slowed down a little but didn’t face me. “I’m not sorry for trying to find Emma.”
“And that’s great but you should talk to the rest of us before getting mixed up with someone like him.” I shivered at the thought.
Then, she turned to me. “Like I said, we had no leads.”
“I know that, and I am working on it, trust me, I am but I can’t believe you went with Rufus the Rapist instead of giving me time.”
“We don’t have any, Y/N!” Marie snapped. “She could be hanging on by a thread somewhere or dead but we don’t know anything and now I have this Tek Knight shit to worry about.”
I flinched. “I told you, she’s alive and I know you’re scared but I’m scared too. Emma is my best friend and not being able to figure out where she is has been driving me crazy.” Tears began burning in my eyes.
Marie hesitated and looked down for a moment. “You’re right, I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault, it just sucks that the last time we talked, we fought. I didn’t even get to talk to her at the gala,” I admitted.
“Yeah,” Marie looked back up at me, “I saw you were talking to a lot of people.”
“I kind of had to.”
“With Jordan?”
I cocked my head at her and she stared at me. “Wait, what?”
She sort of pouted. “I saw you were spending a lot of time with them.”
“We were schmoozing for their ranking,” I explained.
“Oh.”
I didn’t need a vision to tell me that she wanted to say more. What was going on with everyone today?
“Next time, I could help you do it, I mean, I don’t think you’ll need my help with Vought liking you,” I thought out loud.
“Don’t remind me.” Marie leaned against the wall. “I don’t know what to do! I’m so deep in this shit that there’s no crawling out.”
She slowly slid down until she sat on the ground, and I sat across from her.
“It might seem like that but, there is a way out, you probably just won’t like it.”
Marie’s eyes flickered up at me. “Are you siding with Jordan?”
“No! What is it with you two? It’s like a live X beef and I’m somehow in the middle!” I exclaimed. “No, I’m not on anyone’s side, I can see both your sides clearly: you want to get ahead and this a great chance to do it and Jordan feels like they saved you only to have you trample all over them.”
Marie frowned at my words. “They would have done the same thing!”
“I don’t know…” I don’t know anything anymore.
I pushed myself to stand. “It’s your choice, Marie.”
“What would you do?” she whispered.
“Honestly, I have no clue but I would probably talk to Cate about it.” I pulled her to her feet. “By the way, that cocksplosion was so awesome.”
Marie smiled. “Like I said, it just happened out of nowhere.”
“I knew he had some bad karma coming his way, but I didn’t think you’d deliver it.”
Then, she hugged me and I felt stunned. She smelled like cinnamon and something earthy that I couldn’t put my finger on. I had no idea that she had such a strong grip, it was kind of comforting. I slowly hugged her back and when she pulled away, she gasped.
“I got blood on you, I’m so sorry,” Marie apologized.
“It’s okay, no one should be able to tell unless they have a luminol ability,” I pointed out.
She nodded and as I made way out of the dorm, my curiosity got the better of me, and I focused on how the lecture would go. Unfortunately, all I saw was a brief scene of Jordan and Marie speaking in Marie’s dorm. They weren’t fighting so that must be positive.
Two hours later, I was sitting in one of the beach chairs out by the Si Chi pool, fuming. Sasha thought she was so slick, trying to persuade Sydney to let Justine in despite all the issues. She could have at least come up with a decent argument; the fact that she hadn’t even tried was almost the most insulting part.
I just happened to catch the two of them speaking on the staircase when I returned from my advanced modern dance class. Sydney politely nodded as Sasha spoke.
“…and she’s the best in her class!” Sasha finished.
“That’s great, but I don’t want anyone who uses someone else’s triggers for their own gain representing this house,” Sydney replied firmly.
“But----”
“Sydney, how’s the selection process going?” I called.
They both turned to me and Sasha lost some color in her face.
“Good, we’ve narrowed it down and we’ll finalize it tonight,” Sydney said.
That should have been satisfying but it wasn’t. Who did Sasha think she was? She could be antagonistic but she never outright bullied anyone. Does she want Justine to be a protégé?
“Y/N,” someone whispered.
I jumped in my seat and glanced around the pruned backyard. No one else was out with the other girls either heading to another class or studying. It must have been my imagination.
“Y/N!”
That time it was louder, and I slowly stood. “This isn’t funny, whoever’s out there!”
This day really was turning into too much. First, I kissed Jordan----which I still hadn’t unpacked----, second, Rufus got castrated in the most violent way possible, and third, I was hearing voices or being stalked.
Slowly, I started creeping back towards the house. Maybe it was time for a nap since sleep deprivation could drive anyone crazy. Maybe that would help me find Emma.
“Y/N, it’s me!”
And now the voices sounded like her.
“Over here!”
Something told me that I wouldn’t end up like every non-final white girl in a horror movie. So, I started walking in the direction of the voice, which just happened to be in the thick wall of shrubs that lined the perimeter.
“Where is here?” I whispered.
Then, a hand reached out from some shrubs on the right side. Carefully, I approached it and knelt down, still keeping my distance. Then, a head of curly blonde hair poked its way out of the shrubs, pieces of greenery attached to its scalp.
“Emma!” I rasped.
“Hey, do you mind being surprised after you help me out of here?” she asked.
As soon as I got her out, I hugged her. I was right, she was alive this whole time. I almost cried tears of joy as I slowly pulled away from her.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so happy to see you!”
“I’m happy to see you two but we’re both in trouble if someone catches us like this,” Emma said.
As quickly as I could, I snuck her up into my room and she collapsed on the bed as soon as I closed the door. With the better look at her, I noticed she was in a random black movie theater t-shirt, shorts, and she only had one shoe. She wasn’t too dirty but I tried not to think about having to wash my comforter once she left.
“Emma, where have you been? What’s going on?”I asked.
“Well, Andre sent me on a mission to find Luke’s brother,” Emma started.
“I know that much; is that the guy you were with?”
Emma shot up to a sitting position. “You saw us?”
“Sort of. I had no idea where you were going, why?”
“No reason, I don’t know why I was surprised, you see everything.”
Even though I didn’t, I let Emma continue. As she spoke, my eyes got wider and wider. There was so much to unpack: there was a research lab under the school called The Woods where they tested supes, the researchers faked Sam’s, Luke’s brother, death but kept him in The Woods, and they are working on something big.
“What is it?” I asked.
Emma shrugged. “Sam has no idea but he knows that the doctors have been working on it for a while and they’re almost done.”
I nodded. “Okay, where is he now?”
“In an abandoned theater. It sounds creepy but the stale snacks and ambiance make it kind of cute,” she chirped.
I shook my head. “You like him.”
Emma gasped, “What? I do not!”
“He’s your type: cute and a little messed up.” “I don’t have a type and even if I did, you might’ve been close to it,” she muttered.
I smiled and hugged her again. “It’s so good to see you again. I don’t know what I would have done if…”
“Hey, like someone could kill me.” Emma tried to keep her tone lighter, but I could tell she was scared.
When I pulled away, I apologized for everything that happened before the gala. I wasn’t that good of a friend and Emma did everything she could for me, even when she didn’t have to.
“I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have projected and called you perfect; I know that everything with your parents has been rough for you and you’re managing it as well as you can. Plus, I hid the whole how I get small thing from you,” Emma rambled.
“Why’d you hide it from me? You can tell me anything, that’s what best friends do,” I whispered.
Emma looked down at her hands. “Because I knew it would make us both feel like shit. You had other stuff going on and I didn’t want to be a burden. I’m the one who cheers you up and I was ashamed.”
“You’re allowed to feel bad sometimes, Emma, but it really hurt knowing you felt like you couldn’t reach out to me for help,” I managed, feeling myself starting to choke up.
“Don’t cry because if you cry, then I’ll cry.” She hugged me again and we both sniffled. “Okay, from now on, we tell each other everything.”
“Agreed.”
When Emma pulled away, she had the most mischievous grin on her face paired with a fake nonchalant look in her eye. I immediately eyed her as she crossed her legs and started glancing around the room.
“So, to go off that, what’s going on with you and Jordan?” she asked.
“Are you kidding me? You come back from disappearing and that’s the first thing you want to know?”
“I could have died, Y/N.”
“Do not try to guilt me!”
I took a deep breath and mulled it over for a moment. A couple of hours ago, I would have killed for this chance to talk to Emma and now that it was here, I was stopping myself. There shouldn’t be anything stopping me, especially since we just promised each other that we wouldn’t keep anymore secrets. With that thought, I told her everything, from the night at the club, to when we kind of rescued Marie.
When I looked at her, Emma was stunned.
“What?” was all she could muster.
I nodded. “Yeah, it’s a lot.”
“You went from almost kissing Jordan to full-on kissing Jordan. I could tell you liked them by the way you talked about them last year but this is progress,” Emma remarked.
“I didn’t like them like that last year, I don’t now. Anyway, I only did it after I saw the vision and it was to win the fight, so does that really count?” I asked.
Emma raised her eyebrows. “Did you feel anything on the other side of that kiss?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, did you feel them kissing you back? Were they breathing all heavy? Were their hands moving all over your body?”
All those things happened but, Jordan must have been caught up in the moment.
“If Jordan was caught up, they would have snapped out of it but they didn’t until you pulled away,” Emma pointed out.
“I did it as a distraction tactic!”
“Doesn’t matter since they liked it,” Emma said with a shrug. “And you must have enjoyed it.”
“How would you know?”
“Because the tip of your nose is turning red.”
I yelped and covered my nose. “It’s because this conversation is embarrassing. Besides, I don’t have time for a relationship; I have to finish out rush week and then there’s initiation and not to mention classes---” Emma placed her hands on my shoulders and forced me to look at her. “Y/N, ‘having time’ has nothing to do with liking someone. You’ve had googly eyes for Jordan for a year now, it’s okay to admit it!”
“I have not! They bullied me for half of last year.”
“Really? Did they ever say anything super mean to you or try to hurt you?”
As I took a second to think about my dynamic with Jordan, I realized that they only delivered playful jabs that I returned when I got comfortable around them. So, I shook my head.
“And aren’t they always trying to keep you out of trouble?”
“Not always,” I muttered.
Emma groaned. “Why did I think it would be easy to get you to admit that you like someone? You’re so oblivious.”
“I am not!”
“Really? So, how would you describe your relationship with Marie?”
“Friends.”
“Really? Because when you were doing her makeup that night, I thought you got lost in her eyes. Those big, beautiful, puppy dog eyes.”
I playfully pushed her but she maintained her pose and I couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped me. Even though her words were lighthearted, I had paused a few times that night to admire Marie but she was pretty, everyone admired pretty.
“I was trying to do a good job with her eyeshadow. Besides, I thought you were still insisting I like Jordan,” I responded.
Emma relaxed and stared at me like I grew a second head. “You are way deeper in denial than I thought you were.” “What are you talking about?”
“I know that sexuality is a spectrum and a journey and everything but, Y/N, you clearly like two people.”
Her words hung in the air as I returned her stare. Emma had lost it, officially.
There was no way I liked both Marie and Jordan. Marie relaxed me as soon as I saw her and friends are supposed to be relaxed with friends. I felt like I could tell her anything and any friend would feel bad about accidentally ditching their friend on a night out. Also, any friend would feel like crying if their friend told them that they accidentally killed their parents. Any friend would want to try to make them feel better since they couldn’t take away the pain.
And as far as Jordan went, I was well aware of how attractive they were in both forms and occasionally felt warm inside when they smiled at me, but those were just hormones. Plus, Jordan was a protective person so it made sense that they would jump in when necessary. The shivers I’d attempted to hide when they pulled me onto their lap were normal.
“No, that doesn’t make any sense,” I muttered.
“I can only help you so much. It’s clear to me and maybe even to Jordan and Marie.”
I shook my head. “We don’t have time for this. We should find Marie and let her know that you’re alive and everything you told me.” “Okay, and if she just happens to give you a thank-you kiss, I’ll try not to gloat.”
“Emma,” I warned.
“Okay, can I borrow some shoes before we leave?”
Emma practically bounced with each step on the way to her dorm. Even though I convinced her to wear one of my hoodies just in case, she seemed happy to be back on campus. Hopefully, we could get everyone together and get this all figured out. Once this was over, then I would be able to focus on Bid Day and maybe what Emma had been saying.
It was going to be so awkward talking to Marie after that conversation. I felt so many things that I didn’t know what to settle on: confusion, frustration, anxiety, and all the others I couldn’t name.
The meds must have kicked in as Emma began trying to unlock her door. I was settled and comfortable. Everything was going to be fine.
Finally, Emma threw open her door. “Holy shit, so much is happening!” she announced as she stormed into her room.
I trailed after her and felt my anxiety break free from its cage. Jordan had Marie pinned against the wall, kissing her like it was his last chance. Marie seemed equally as passionate as she tugged on his shirt. At Emma’s words, they jumped away from each other, both frazzled and disheveled, eyes wide.
Then a flood of more emotions I couldn’t name washed over me.

Where I think the counselors would work off-season:
Laura: I feel like her family would own a farm in North Carolina and that she would work with the different animals on the farm. She upkeeps their enclosures, feeds them, etc and provides horseback riding lessons for kids. She gained her love for animals from helping on the family farm starting at a young age.
Max: I don’t know why but I could see Max working at a movie theater concession counter. It’s not his favorite job in the world and he complains a lot to Laura about it but he enjoys seeing different movies come out and sneaking himself snacks when no one’s looking. I could also see him being good at math and tutoring middle schoolers on the side.
Jacob: I could see Jacob working at a sports and gym center as a sports instructor; most likely for either football or soccer. Jacob really loves his job because he loves sports and working with kids! He’s really enthusiastic with the kids he teaches and is always cheering them on to do their best! He’s really funny too and makes the kids laugh and he’s good at cheering up kids if they make a mistake. The kids love him overall. Sometimes Nick and Kaitlyn stop by to work out in the gym with him.
Emma: Realistically I don’t think she would work, since she’s an influencer and she gives me “rich parents who give her a credit card with large spending limit” vibes, but for the sake of this post I will say she would probably work a few days a week at Sephora. She really enjoys all of the different makeup and skincare products and would probably use her employee discount to go shopping frequently. She loves buying new products to review on her YouTube channel. She seems unapproachable and judgy to customers, but she’s actually very sweet and loves helping customers pick out products! Would probably quit the minute she encounters a karen though 😭💀
Abi: Pre game I feel like Abi would have worked at a lush in the same mall where Emma works. She mostly enjoyed it because she loves the different scents of the soaps and bath bombs. However, rude customers would make her very anxious, especially post-game. Post-game, I feel like she would start working at a café but not just any cafe….a cat café!! Abi LOVES cats and she enjoys making all of the different types of drinks. I feel like Abi would especially love boba and would come up with different boba recipes while working there. She also doesn’t encounter any karens because who would be a karen at a cat café of all places?? She loves playing with the kitties in her free time and Emma and Nick frequently stop by to see her, get drinks and pet the cats.
Nick: Nick always was in the restaurant industry. Pre game, he worked at a small restaurant in downtown Sydney as a waiter. Diners loved him but he was very shy and kind of awkward as a waiter, which is what made him consider working in the kitchen instead. Post-game he moved to America permanently and took a line cook position at, you guessed it, an Outback Steakhouse LMAO. He mostly enjoys the job, however he complains about how inaccurate the menu is for an Australian themed restaurant 😭💀. He mostly enjoys the job but sometimes he gets stressed out and becomes the Australian Gordon Ramsey. He works near the cat café where Abi works and likes to stop by to visit her and get coffee during his lunch breaks. He stays extra longer if he’s having a stressful day and pets the cats.
Dylan: Dylan works at a music/record store both pre and post game. He loves the job because it’s not very stressful and he gets to discover different kinds of music just by stocking the shelves and looking through all of the records and CDs that come in! I feel like Dylan would have a wide range of music knowledge and taste and would especially love classic rock and older pop music. The owners love him and he is frequently named employee of the month! He is very chatty with customers and will have their ear for long periods of time nerding out about different bands and artists!
Ryan: Ryan’s first ever job was at a hot topic in the same mall where Abi and Emma worked. He mainly picked up the job to save up for animation school and to help support Sarah and his grandparents. Due to lack of hours, he moved to a Spencer’s shortly before the events of the game. It didn’t take long for him to quit though because he got annoyed with the amount of jokes he would hear about “the back” (if ykyk 💀). Post game, Ryan got even more interested in the paranormal. For this reason, he took up a job at an antique store located right next to the record shop Dylan works at and he really loves it. The owners pay him well and when he’s alone, he likes to investigate the history on all of the antiques and see if he can encounter any spirits. Since they work right next to each other, Dylan and Ryan like to visit each other frequently like the lovebirds they are 💕
Kaitlyn: Kaitlyn first worked at a dick’s sporting goods, since she enjoys sports and fitness. She somewhat enjoyed the job up until one day when she got into an argument with a karen, which resulted in her getting fired. Jacob, like the great friend he is, put in good word for her at the center he works at and helped Kaitlyn get a job as a receptionist for the gym area. She enjoys the job much better and she eventually gets promoted to a fitness instructor position, where she hosts her very own fitness classes! She also gets to bully Jacob as much as she pleases 🤭
If you enjoyed this post, please send me headcanon asks! I really would love to share all of my thoughts on the characters! 💕

SHE (PART TWO): BILLY LOOMIS AND STU MACHER X BLACK PLUS SIZE READER
Tumblr media
SUMMARY - You moved to Woodsboro 2 years ago and quickly became friends with Marlon and Shawn, you did your best to make friends with their friends but you couldn't help but feel uncomfortable around them because of those two... and your feelings were very valid.... Title inspired by the song "She" by tyler the creator. I reccomend you listen to it while reading this.
Tumblr media
"You ok? you look tired." Sydney asked brushing the hair out of your face.
"Yeah i'm fine, just a little lightheaded i forgot to eat breakfast this morning."'You threw your gym clothes in your locker grabbing your bag.
"I got some lasagna for lunch, we can split it if you want." She offered.
"That's alright syd, i got a few snacks in my bag. I wanna save my appetite for tonight anyways." You declined.
The two of you walked out to the courtyard, pushing through the large crowds of students.
"Hey pretty lady." Shawn smiled scooting over on the water fountain to make room for you.
"I can't stay long , i have a history quiz to makeup." You hands brushed through Marlon's hair as he rested his head on your lap.
"Hey i've been meaning to ask you, where do you get your nails done? They're always so cute." Tatum grabbed your hand to take a closer look at them.
"Thanks! I always go to Rosie's. She's so nice and takes her time to make sure i leave with exactly what i want." You spoke excitedly.
"Oh?!" Tatum looks at you in surprise.
"What?" You tilt your head in confusion.
"That's my aunt's shop, she doesn't get much business these days but she says there's always this cute girl who comes in with cookies and tips well. Guess that's you." Stu explained grinning.
"Wow i had no idea, and i just assumed i came in when the shop was slow. She does amazing work i'm surprised she doesn't get much business." You frowned slightly.
"Not a lot of people know about the place." He shrugged.
"I'm going to get a fill friday, i'll ask her for some flyers or something to hand out. She's too good at what she does to not have lots of customers." You made up your mind.
"That's sweet of you, thanks i'm sure she'd love that." Stu smiled.
"Of course…shit i gotta go." You stood removing Marlon's head carefully.
"Nu uh, aren't you forgetting somethinggg?" He sing songed.
"What?" You raised a brow.
He tapped his cheek expectantly.
You shook your head a smile creeping up your face as you grabbed the sides of his face planting kisses all over.
"Happy?" You stepped back.
"Very, i can die in peace now." He placed his hand on his forehead dramatically.
"See you later goofball." You laughed making your way toward the school building.
Later on that night
You cleaned up around the house a little as you waited on Sydney. Marlon, Shawn and Stu all had to stay after school to get some extra practice in so the rest of you decided to just carpool together.
You grabbed your bag at the sound of a car pulling up in your driveway outside.
You closed and locked your front door behind you.
"I'll be back later sunny, i left you some food and water." You squatted petting the small black cat.
Sunny was a stray that often stopped by your house, you always made sure to keep her well fed.
"Thanks for picking me up." You smiled as you got into Sydney's car.
"It's no problem." She spoke sweetly.
For some reason Billy was in the back seat with you while Tatum was in the passenger seat beside Sydney. You tried not to think about it too much. You told yourself you'd do your best to be friendly with him and that's exactly what you did.
"Hi." You greeted him attempting to make small talk.
"Hey, you excited for the big game tonight?" He asked.
Your eyes widened at his calm, non intimidating demeanor, he was usually very eery and quiet so it definitely came as a surprise.
"Definitely our boys are gonna do great." You nodded.
The two of you continued to talk for the entire duration of the car ride, you got to know each other a lot better and you were happy you actually had a conversation with him because he wasn't as bad as he seemed.
"I'm gonna go get us some drinks." Billy walked toward the concession stand.
You took your seats in the very front.
Halftime came around and both teams were close in score.
"Hey guys, you enjoying yourselves?" Shawn jogged over taking a seat beside you.
"Yeah, you guys are doing great out there." You smiled.
"We'd be doing even better if we had our favorite cheerleader out there." Stu jogged over holding a pair of pom pom's Marlon close behind him.
"Wait you guys are serious?" You looked between them nervously.
"As a heart attack." Marlon nodded.
"I'm not an actual cheerleader though, and i don't even know the routine, i'm also not in uniform and did you check to see if it was ok with the team?" You rambled.
"We already made sure it was ok, and it doesn't matter what you're wearing just get out there and hype us up pleaseeee, they're gonna make sure you're comfortable with the routine while we have this break." Shawn pouted.
"Ok but this is never happening again." You agreed reluctantly.
They all jumped around in excitement and Marlon grabbed your hand to make sure you got down the bleachers safely.
"Hi, y/n come on we don't have much time left." A girl pulled you over a bright smile on her face.
Everyone was super nice and made sure you had the routine down.
Once it was time you fell into rhythm with the rest of the team easily, it was actually pretty fun and you nerves were now replaced with the feeling of joy.
There was one minute left on the clock and everyone played like their lives depended on it.
During the last couple of seconds Shawn had the ball and was booking it toward the end of the field.
You screamed until your voice started to give out, cheering him on as he made the touchdown.
You jumped up and down in excitement and after he made his way through the huge crowd surrounding him he ran over to you scooping you up into his arms and spinning you around.
"You did great out there!" You smiled wrapping your legs around his waist as he held you up by your thighs.
Marlon ran over tackling the two of you to the ground.
You just laughed while catching your breath, he nearly knocked the wind out of you.
Time skip
Everyone's bellies and hearts were full as you all filed out of the restaurant.
Sydney, Tatum, Stu and Billy had all left together just a few minutes before agreeing to meet up at the party the team was throwing to celebrate their big win.
You don't remember when you fell asleep but you were now being carried bridal style to your front door.
You were sat down on your couch softly and your shoes were removed.
"You sure you don't wanna come?" Marlon asked brushing the hair out of your face.
"I'm sure, you guys have fun and don't stay out too late, you're gonna need to rest after how hard you guys worked tonight." You grinned.
"You too, sleep well i'll lock the door on my way out." He kissed your forehead.
You decided to get up and take a quick shower before bed.
You grabbed a large t shirt and a pair of shorts, tying your hair up and making your way to the bathroom.
After a quick and much needed shower you jumped into bed and quickly succumbed to sleep again.
Later that night
You jolted up in bed at the sound of the phone ringing loudly.
You got up quickly walking toward the kitchen to answer it.
"Hello?" You spoke groggily.
"Hi sweet cheeks, what's your favorite scary movie?” A voice spoke from the other end.
"Very funny Marlon, it's too late at night to be playing pranks. I was actually sleeping good." You whined.
"This isn't Marlon babe." The voice responded.
"Alrightttt." You spoke sarcastically not believing him.
"So what is it?" The voice asked.
"Hmm i like child's play." You decided to entertain him.
"Aww that's not scary, that's just a doll running around with a knife." The voice spoke in disappointment.
"It's pretty entertaining though." You shrugged.
"Look at you in your adorable little flower dress, these must be your parents? You look just like them." The voice suddenly changed the topic.
It felt like a bucket of ice water had been dumped on you. That picture was buried under a bunch of junk in your nightstand, whoever was on the phone with you was in your house.
"Who are you, h-how did you get into my house?!" You sobbed shaking violently as you looked around.
"No need to worry about all that, if i were you, i'd run sweet heart." The person suddenly burst out of your room making their way towards you.
By the time your mind caught up with your body they had already gotten ahold of you, you back facing them as they gripped your waist tightly, running the blade of their knife down your cheek.
You jerked your head back colliding with the stranger's and stunning him long enough for you to get away.
You sprinted through your back door and made you way to the street.
A car nearly ran you over but stopped just in time.
You ran over to the drivers side begging them to open the door.
"Y/n? What's going on?" Billy got out grabbing your arms.
"Someone's in my house billy! They had a knife they were gonna kill me!" You cried holding on to him tightly.
"Hey it's ok, it's gonna be ok. I'm gonna go and check alright? Stay in the car." He let go of you making his was toward your house.
"NO! NO YOU'RE GONNA GET HURT!" You screamed attempting to stop him.
You ran to your neighbors house to get help and they immediately called the police.
The cops arrived quicker than you thought and you ran outside to greet them.
As you were explaining the situation billy walked out with a mask and a phone in hand.
"Hey drop what you're holding and show me your hands!" An office yelled.
"Wait no, he was just checking my house he didn't do anything." You explained frantically as they cuffed him.
"Please just step back ma'am." another officer spoke.
"But you don't understand he didn't do anything!" You yelled in frustration.
"Billy i'm gonna call everyone else and we're gonna get you out i swear!" You yelled as they stuffed him in the back of a squad car.
He frowned and nodded as they drove away.

Fluffy Headcanons for Rin Matsuoka~
Best boy deserves best love❤️❤️
Wakes up VERY early, doesn't wake you up though. He knows you like to sleep a lot, so he'll let you awake up at your own comfort. He will kiss you a lot though, so if you are a light sleeper, get ready for random kiss attacks.
Makes breakfast for the two of you everyday before going for his morning jog. He doesn't cook a lot, but you still appreciate that he does this for you (also, his Australian style breakfast is just🤌🏻✨)
Not a big fan of cuddling. Only when you two are together in bed, he'll hug you as his "pillow". Cannot fall asleep without you otherwise.
Throughout your day, you'll be constantly having messages like, "yo!, Had lunch??/ I'm leaving early today, will come to pick you up. Wanna go somewhere after?/ Let's meet up with the others and go for a swim!"
You'd think he's the manly one, but he's just as scared of critters and other things as you are. One bumblebee and he's going to be moving out. You wonder how he lived in Sydney.
"Y/N NO. THERE'S A GIANT ASS SPIDER UNDER THE COUCH I'M NOT STAYING HERE, IT CAN KEEP THE HOUSE BYE"
PDA 10/10. Will throw an arm around your shoulders, random kisses on your hair, pinching your cheeks is all your daily routine now. He doesn't care if you're in public, he wants to make you feel loved, and he will. Just make sure to return his gestures with equal amounts of affection.
Clean boi. Self care and workouts with him ALWAYS. You go to the gym and do your workouts, advise each other on your figures, you two also take turns making each other feel relaxed and have massages. He knows how to get hair off, so you don't need to worry about spending $$$ for special salon waxing. You can rely on him and do it at home (mostly with him). His hands are gentle, and you barely feel any pain when he tears off the strips and blows on the area, smiling and asking you if it hurt.
He's so gentle with you :(
You'd think he's strict and would be just as tough as when he talks, but it's the opposite. He WILL make sure to handle you in the most careful way. If there's any arguments, he would wait out his frustration, but he'll come to terms with it and start treating you normally again (provided you also gave your efforts ofc). Your fights NEVER last over a day. If you're mad at him, he leaves you alone for some time, but he can't stay without talking to you. He'll come and sit besides you, randomly smother you with kisses, tickle you to get you to laugh, he'll lay on your lap and give you his puppy face (I 100% believe he does this). He'll be upset if he sees you hurt. He cannot bear to see it.
If you are the one who angered him, it wouldn't take long before he's calmed down, although he has a habit of being mean to push people away when he's upset at them, so you'll need to break through his barrier. Just give him lots of love and show that you're truly sorry, he'll be understanding, and will be back to normal.
Loves to watch romantic movies with you. Oftentimes, imagines the scenes with him and you as the main characters, and might get emotional. Cherish your romantic idiot, he'll be the one you're going to be spending the rest of your life with. Make sure every single moment counts...
Get him small gifts every once in a while. Celebrate his swimming victories, and take him out. He loves it when you surprise him, and he'll always appreciate it. "Thanks y/n..I love you sooo much". Encourage him when he's swimming. He loves your attention, especially when he's nervous and needs some assurance. You're in to fill that role~
You two cook together. It's one of those things you love to do with him. He's honestly a solid cook, could probably rival Haru's skills. You play with each other a lot while at it.
"Hey Reeeen~ catch!" *Throws a bottle of sauce*
"y/n there's something on your lips-" *kisses you*
"HEY!!"
"heheheh~"
Before sleeping, you two talk about your day, and share all the good things that happened to you. It acts as a good summary to remind you both how lucky you are.
"Goodnight Rin"
"Nighty night~"
Maybee someone's still a little energetic and wants to play with their boyfriend some more though....
"Hey-" *pokes Rin's arm*
"hm?"
"Wanna do something fun?"
*chuckles* "Alright, let me show you a sight you've never seen~"
You two proceed to spend the rest of the night getting wasted on your console. There's nothing more relaxing than a hard core gaming session.
What? Did you think something else was going to happen? Sheesh~ y/n... Naughty naughty :))

Supernatural Hunting Living and Love Part 8
Dean Winchester x fem!reader
1k word count
fluff, idiots in love, friends to lovers
warnings boring filler chapter?
Note Short filler chapter. The next chapter will start seeing the slow burn come to an end!
Original / Previous Chapter / Next Chapter
Tumblr media
Four weeks evaporated faster than a desert mirage. Another team of hunters had cleared out the vampire nest I'd targeted, forcing me to scramble for a new lead. My gaze darted across the laptop screen, searching for a hunt far enough from Sydney that I could just jump in my car and disappear as soon as the casts came off. Dean, meanwhile, had mastered the art of the disappearing act himself. Most days, he was a ghost in my own house, materializing only to grab intel on the next hunt before vanishing again.
Truth be told, I didn't need the Winchesters anymore. I was a functioning weapon again. They could have left the day we were discharged, but Sam, bless his heart, insisted on sticking around until I was fully healed. He'd even convinced Theresa to return to the States with them. I genuinely felt happy for her, a bittersweet ache blooming in my chest. It stung that Sam, despite the grim realities of our work, could find solace in companionship, while Dean and I seemed perpetually adrift in a sea of loneliness.
The tension between the brothers simmered just beneath the surface, erupting into low-grade hostility during their late-night conversations. I tried my best to tune them out, but the sound of my own name being tossed around like a grenade always snagged my attention.
The last week was a blur of activity. Sam spent his days drowning Theresa in paperwork for her move, while Dean fussed over his beloved Impala, babbling about some shady contact who could "sneak her" past customs. I, on the other hand, was a silent observer, counting down the minutes until I was free. My escape plan was already hatched. Despite promising Sam I'd take it easy, my duffel bag sat fat and expectant in the closet, crammed with everything I needed to hit the road running.
Finally, the day arrived. The Winchesters and I piled into the car, a strange, tense silence hanging heavy in the air. Dean, still grumbling about his "baby" being in the hands of strangers, insisted he could feel the difference between his car and mine. Sam and I exchanged tolerant smiles, knowing it was pure delusion.
The hospital visit was a repeat of the last one, only this time, a sliver of hope flickered in my chest. The x-rays seemed to confirm it. The doctor, a man with a perpetually weary smile, announced, "Looks like we can ditch the dead weight."
"This one first," I declared, holding up my arm, the itch beneath the cast a maddening fire. "It's driving me insane."
The doctor chuckled. "That'll be the built-up…evidence of your resilience." He set to work with a saw, and the moment my arm was free, I cradled it close, both rubbing and scratching with fervor. The stench that hit me was ripe and metallic, like a forgotten gym bag. My skin, exposed for the first time in weeks, was a stark contrast of shades - a sickly brown under the cast giving way to the healthy pale of my upper arm. The doctor, unfazed, explained the science behind the offensive odor – trapped sweat and bacteria. Charming.
As quickly as they came off, the casts were relegated to the dustbin of history. Relief washed over me, mingling with a raw, exhilarating anticipation. Back in the car, the weight of the situation settled on my shoulders. A lump formed in my throat, but I swallowed it down. Tonight, when the Winchesters were safely on their flight, I'd be gone. Johnny, a fellow hunter with a nose for trouble, had sent me a juicy case on the other side of the country. People were vanishing along a desolate stretch of highway in Western Australia, all last seen at the same gas station. Humans? Or something more sinister? Johnny had arranged for me to meet a local hunter to investigate.
"Earth to Y/N," Dean's voice broke through my thoughts. "You zoning out on us, or are you ditching us at the airport?"
"Relax, your chariot awaits," I offered a tight smile.
"Seriously, what's got you lost in thought?" Sam asked, a hint of amusement in his voice.
"Just contemplating the best way to break something and convince you two to stick around a bit longer," I deadpanned, then burst out laughing.
The joke landed with a thud. Dean muttered something about me being a "psycho," and slammed on the gas, eager to get the goodbyes over with.
At Theresa's place, a "for sale" sign sat like a grim sentinel in the yard. She wore a bittersweet smile, a reflection of my own conflicted emotions. We shared a hug, her goodbye a mix of excitement and sadness. As they disappeared into the bustle of the airport, I lingered for a moment, watching them go. Then, with a deep breath, I climbed back into the car. The airport shrunk in the rearview mirror, replaced by the endless ribbon of highway stretching before me. The ache in my chest sharpened – a potent cocktail of grief for the life I couldn't have and the thrill of the hunt that pulsed through my veins.
The drive was a blur. Every passing mile chipped away at the lingering vestiges of the Winchesters. The radio, usually a source of unwelcome distraction, remained silent. My thoughts were consumed by the case file Johnny had sent. The disappearances in Western Australia were unsettling. People, mostly lone travelers – men and women – vanished without a trace, their last known stop a deserted gas station along a desolate stretch of highway.
Johnny, ever the pragmatist, suspected foul play – a human trafficking ring or a deranged serial killer. But a sliver of doubt lingered in my mind. The isolation of the location, the pattern of disappearances… it all felt uncomfortably supernatural.
The local hunter Johnny had arranged for me to meet was a woman named Maya, someone with a reputation for handling the strange and unsettling. Her contact information was a single cryptic sentence: "Look for the blue ute with the bumper sticker that reads 'Honk if You've Seen Chupacabra.'"
A wry smile touched my lips. This was going to be interesting. The promise of a new hunt, a chance to unravel a mystery, fueled me forward. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the deserted highway, I pushed on, the ache in my chest replaced by a steely determination. The Winchesters were a fading memory, a chapter closed. The hunt was on.

Amilia and Jake are just so cute in the beginning. I love them. But it hurts to know how messed up they get.
For me, Amilia is my comfort character. You guys get the reader. I get Amilia
Side Series to Terms of Endearment
Terms of Endearment // Jake Seresin
Tattoos & Broken Hearts //
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For what it was worth—Amilia didn’t know how to feel when she came face to face with her ex in the waiting area of her place of employment on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales. It was a shock to the system she’d been clawing her way back to the surface to protect. Jake Seresin was a long way away from Fightertown.
Amilia had been bedridden for weeks, depressed beyond belief. She knew her worth and she knew her value but fuck Jake had really done a number on her. It probably didn’t help that she left Australia in search of something more—that more turned out to be Jake. As she stood before Jake in the waiting room of the gym, Amilia knew that in hindsight, placing all her value and all her worth on the shoulders of one man probably wasn’t her best decision in life. She should have just gone to the Queen Mary like she wanted to—in search of a good ghost scare. But no—she shacked up with Hangman.
Who, shockingly, left her hanging.
“I know I fucked up—but please just let me talk?” Jake had been a broken record ever since that moment where Amilia learnt the fate of what happened to Jake’s wife. She’d been annulled. But there was something inside her that was telling her not to give him the time of day.
He didn’t deserve it. He didn’t deserve her and Amilia was absolutely adamant that she deserved a hell of a lot better than Jake. It didn’t matter if she had his stupid callsign tattooed on his hip, she was getting it removed. It didn’t matter if she still loved him. She wasn’t good enough for him, that’s why he married someone who was.
Right?
“Yeah—no something tells me that if I let you talk I’ll listen and I’m not sure if I’m stable enough to deal with whatever repercussions come with that.” Amilia laughed at herself as she walked to the front desk, Jake trailed behind her like a lost puppy as all her coworkers on reception watched on like they were the first viewers of a new reality TV series. Starring Amilia herself and the American Psycho.
“Amilia please, I just need to talk with you—“ As she put the keys back to the sound system in the cupboard at reception, Amilia cracked it at the man who broke her heart. She loved him still—oh so much, but she wasn’t a second choice. “I’m here, I came all this way to see you and—“
“I don’t wanna talk, Jake!” She raised her voice loud enough that the people on the nearby treadmills turned their attention away from their workout to the fuss going on at reception. “I’m sorry you came all this way but I don’t owe you anything.”
“Oz—“ Jake pleaded, but it only fell on deaf ears.
“Don’t call me that!” Again she raised her voice a little louder than she should have. Amilia felt all eyes on her as she ran her hand through her sweaty hair. Just fresh from teaching a class. “It wasn’t commitment  you were afraid of it was just doing it with me that scared you—and don’t stand here and lie to me Seresin because you got hitched!” Jake watched as Amilia fixed her gym bag over her shoulder and tried to keep herself together. She turned to her colleague and faked a phony smile. “I’ll see you tomorrow Michelle, sorry about Flyboy here he must have left his manners at customs.”
“Amilia—“ Jake was on her tail, following her out the automatic doors that swung open at the sight of people. “All I’m asking for is five minutes—“
“Four hours south will get you back to Sydney and seven and a half hours north will get you to Brisbane CBD—but you aren’t staying here, not in my hometown where I live and work and people know me.” It was beginning to dawn on Jake that he may have flown all this way for nothing, perhaps there was nothing left to salvage, no love left to reclaim. But he wasn’t about to let Amilia Fisher slip through his fingers again.
“I already booked a hotel.” Jake had begun to slow down, he placed his hands in the pockets of his jeans and came to a standstill as Amilia kept walking. She didn’t even turn around to see if Jake was still following her or not. But after a few seconds of regulating his breathing—Jake pressed on and met up with the only love he ever knew as she placed her gym gear into the boot of her car.
“You’re right you know—“ Jake sighed as he waited for Amilia to slam his fingers into the groove of her two thousand and eighteen Honda Accord. But she didn’t. She just stood there with the saddest eyes Jake had ever seen and a quivering bottom lip. He could see she was shaking just by the way her hand trembled around the clasp on the boot. “You don’t owe me a single thing.”
“I loved you—“ Was all Amilia could muster the courage to say.
“I loved you too, I still do.” Jake replied with enough conviction in his tone that for a split moment Amilia could have believed him. But how could she when Jake let her go so easily just to turn around and marry someone else. “I came here to see you, I needed to see you just to tell you how sorry I am for messing this, us, up.”
“Well I’m glad you got to get that off your chest.” Amilia pressed her lips together in a tight line as she pushed your hand against Jake's sternum to will him away from her car. He moved with ease because he wasn’t about to stop her from leaving. “Go home, Flyboy, just go home and leave me the hell alone.”
“I’m here on an extended leave of absence.” In a last stitch effort to get Amilia to listen, Jake told her the truth. “I couldn’t focus at work because you were all I could think about day in and day out and I was grounded. Until I can sort my shit out I’m on a leave of absence.” He sighed as he watched Amilia clip in her seatbelt and start up her car. She hadn’t shit the door yet. Jake lowered himself down, resting his hands on his knees.
“You are so not going to put that you couldn’t pull yourself together enough to do your job on me.” Amilia scoffed out loud. That wasn’t fair. “I had to drag myself out of bed, me, I showed up for me Jake, so show up for yourself.” He could hear it in her voice how hurt Amilia truly was.
“I never meant to hurt you Ozzie—and I’m sorry, I just wanna talk.”
Amilia didn’t respond straight away, she simply sat there wondering if she’d ever get over the American Aviator who stole her heart and never gave it back. She thought she was crazy as her internal monologue kicked in and begged her not to do it. Not to let him back in.
But she did it anyway—
“My flatmate is working the dinner shift at Sails, if you come by we can talk.” Jake could have jumped up and punched the air he was that thankful. “My address is 40 Crescent Street, apartment 17.”
“Can you do me a favour and unblock my number so I can at least text you when I arrive?” Jake sent Amilia the cheekiest grin he could conjure up and for a split second he heard it, her laugh, the laugh he heard in his wildest dreams and fantasies.
Amilia simply smiled back as she watched Jake step away from her car and shut it for her, he watched as she rolled down her window. Slowly but surely pulling out of the car park.
“I’ll consider it.”
She wasn’t getting that tattoo removed.

It’s the anon with family that goes to Iowa.
My sister confirms that the ex and Kate kinda have the same friend group. Only time the ex is ever seen at a bball game the last few months (March madness) was because Doyle was also at the game (Doyle is the ex’s best friend). Rachel (Kate’s longtime best friend was also there). My siblings also mentioned that the Iowa games they attended, they never saw the ex, but did see her at the UCONN game. They were also at the bar where Jason and Sue were (granted the whole friends and family of the team were there). They both said the ex was more interested in meeting Jason, so whatever I guess. An interesting observation by my sister at that gathering with Jason and Sue, Caitlin mingled with everyone but gave the ex the cold shoulder (weird and off vibes according to my sis). Kate’s family were cordial with the ex, night and day difference with Rachel and others, but that there was nothing that indicated they’re back together. My sister said Aj was caressing (?) Molly’s head by the elevator. She said the way it looked was not of friends, but of two people being together for a while. I honestly thought my sister was pulling my leg. She also told me Hannah is with one of the managers on the team and I told her she was full of shit (she told me this before I ever saw Hannah’s tiktok video).
I’m with the anon who said that the ex only wants back in with Kate because of how famous she’s gotten. I mean, how do you break up with someone and then not only date but live with another woman not even a month after breaking it off with Kate?
my sister thinks the reason the ex took down the videos she had with Lexi was because she didn’t/doesn’t want Kate to know (Lexi did live in the ex’s apartment and shared clothes?)If you’ve got nothing to hide, why take down the videos? If you look at Lexi’s other videos, there’s one where it says “goes to the gym with one ex, spend holidays with another ex.” Wtf is up with that?
this is all so interesting ty anon
yeah i'm starting to lean into that theory too idk just think it's weird how she hasn't shown up to any iowa games & isn't in good graces with kate's family & friends (i say this lowkey though cause from what i've seen sydney affolter and some other iowa teammates have liked her recent on ig) plus the whole thing with lexi but starts to come back into her life in march when her stardom is bigger than ever ??? kind of interesting
and ofc kate being the Gay she is accepted her back into her life like its nothing
but like i said i'm starting to think they're not actually together and it's just some messy lesbian stuff

How to Keep Your Gym Clean
Gym Clean is the practice of regularly cleaning and sanitizing equipment, surfaces and facilities in fitness centers. Keeping these areas clean helps ensure a positive member experience, reduces the spread of germs and infections, and extends the life of expensive equipment. It also conveys that your gym is concerned about the health and safety of its members, which can play a significant role in boosting customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Whether they are running on treadmills, lifting free weights or working up a sweat, your members expect to use state-of-the-art equipment that allows them to achieve their fitness goals without injuring themselves or becoming sick. Providing them with this equipment in a hygienic environment can help them feel comfortable and confident that they are safe to exercise, and will encourage them to stick to their workout routines.
As a gym owner, you need to be aware of the best practices for gym cleaning in order to maintain your facility and keep it running smoothly. In addition to educating your staff on the best methods of cleaning, it’s also important to establish a regular schedule for gym cleaning to avoid the build-up of dirt and grime. When dirt, grease, dust, fingerprints and oils build up on equipment, it can cause machines to malfunction or become less effective, while microbes such as staph, MRSA and the common cold can grow in damp areas and remain alive for weeks if they are not killed.
A good routine for gym cleaning should start with removing surface residue using a microfiber cloth dampened with an EPA-approved sanitizing solution or water. This will remove dust, dirt, and fingerprints, as well as reduce odors. Next, use a special wipe to disinfect all handles and seating areas on equipment, including the control panels. Finally, finish the cleaning by spraying all mats with an anti-bacterial spray and ensuring that they are properly returned to their proper storage area.
In addition to sanitizing equipment, it’s also crucial to clean locker rooms and showers regularly. Regular cleaning of surfaces, fixtures and carpets can significantly reduce odors, while a regular sanitizing regimen can prevent mold and mildew from growing.
It’s also important to know which parts of your gym are the busiest throughout the day and week. This can help you plan and execute a cleaning schedule that addresses high traffic times and slow periods to optimize your gym’s efficiency. Lastly, remember to always clean with a non-abrasive cleaner that is appropriate for the material of each piece of equipment. Some abrasive cleaners can damage and discolor equipment, while others can leave behind residue that is difficult to remove.

re: acting and Pokéstar Studios
Rosa’s acting career started inadvertently and very early on during her journey as a gym challenger when she was scouted by one of Mr. Stu Deeoh’s aides after her battle with Roxie. The scout was impressed with the passion and energy that Rosa projected during her battles and thought she’d be a good auditioning candidate for Riolu Girl in the studio’s upcoming film, Brycen-Man. Despite having taken part in some enjoyable drama skits in Trainer School, acting wasn’t something that Rosa had ever actually considered doing so she was a bit resistant at first, but she was eventually convinced to give it a try.
As it turned out, two years of successfully pretending to be someone she wasn’t (or pretending not to be someone she was?) prepared her well for playing a character in a movie. Immersing herself in a role and developing a new persona came easily to her and, since she never does anything in halves, she gave the audition her best shot. Even knowing how much effort she had channeled into her performance, she was still dismayed to find out that the audition had impressed both director Sergeo Pokémonski and Brycen, and thus landed her the role. While she agreed to stay in Virbank long enough to film her scenes, she took off for Castelia as soon as she could and didn’t stick around to see the finished product. The movie did well in the box office, but it didn’t suddenly inspire her to become an actress; at the time, she was more focused on her pokémon journey and learning more about the rising ‘Neo Plasma’ threat, so her brief acting stint was quickly forgotten.
It wasn’t until the tail end of her journey that Rosa was summoned back to Pokéstar Studios at Brycen’s request so she could reprise her role as the heroine in Brycen-Man Strikes Back, this time as Lucario Girl. This happened around the time when she first hit rock-bottom with her mental health, which led to her fully throwing herself into that and many other roles that the studio offered her. Acting quickly became a coping mechanism for her depression, where it was more about her pretending to be someone else—ANYONE but Rosa Vail—just so she could run away from all her problems.
Immersing herself in fantastical worlds where she could completely push aside reality helped her for a while, but it wasn’t until her mother confronted her over her depression that Rosa fully realized what she was doing and that she had to stop. She took an extended break from acting while she journeyed in Kalos and only returned to it after she became the champion of Unova. After a few rough patches during her first year, she found herself in a healthier state of mind and then returned to acting, this time because she actually enjoyed it, at which point her career fully flourished.
While Rosa does well in the action genre, her best work has always been in the fantasy genre and under the direction of Sydney Pokémet. Her first big solo hit and also her favorite film series to work on was Mystery Doors of the Magical Land, which is widely considered her best work. Her least favorite film series was Love and Battles because she felt like a pathetic, simpering fool the entire time during filming. Ironically, that series was also one of her greatest box-office hits and widely acclaimed by film audiences, particularly for Rosa’s emotionally evocative performance in the third installment of the series.
