Hope glistens in her eyes at your words, lips parting for a second before she presses them into a thin line and nods her head.

"Do what you must." Shadowheart removes her hand from your face, eager for any possibility of her regaining her memories, for any second chance fate might offer.

Despite her permission, you still take the time to explain your theory to her. How you felt the shadows inside you swirl at that mere small skin contact of her hand cupping your face.

How maybe, just maybe, a more direct contact could allow you to share part of yourself with her.

You don't claim to no magic or to know for certain if this would work. But you feel remorse for breaking her crystal, and your genuine desire to help her is crystal clear in your words and concerned expression.

It's a leap of faith you're asking of her, to put her trust in a stranger, to put her heart in your hand, to press her lips against yours.

The moon is heavy in the sky below, the lady's light illuminating the empty streets. You wonder how many hours it's been since you were supposed to be home, the stars stare back at you in silence.

"Like I said." Shadowheart steps closer, "do whatever you must." She made up her mind, if a kiss is what it takes then she'll give you a hundred.

Suddenly, it's you who's nervous and put on the spot. It's not just a stranger you're about to kiss but a literal person you thought was a fictional character, you should be having an existential crisis right now about what this means for your existence and if you're real or also another character in someone else's story.

Instead you're here, in front of a very attractive woman with the most resilient soul, about to smooch her.

What if you're wrong?

She takes another step forward, pressing her body against yours impatiently at your hesitation.

But what if you're right?

You wrap your arms around her, an awkward embrace. Closing your eyes and letting your mouth guide you to hers, her lips are chapped yet soft, they part against yours and move with your lead.

The kiss is sweet, brittle almost, a taste of something forbidden. Of love that Shar tucked away, of a past chance at romance that was stolen from her.

Of a youth never allowed to explore, of a soul never allowed happiness.

Of longing.

Your heart drums, beat after beat after beat, her fingers hold your shoulders, her bangs tickle your forehead, her smell is everywhere and her touch is hesitant.

Swirling shadows sway inside your body, moving with your blood stream and travelling up to your lips. Moving into Shadowheart's mouth, stray small puffs slip between your joint lips and fizzle in the night air.

It has no taste, no texture, the only reason you realise the shadows are leaving you is because of the hollow feeling they leave behind.

The feeling of forgetting something grows more and more intense, what started as a breeze is slowly morphing into a storm.
