I like legend of korra, but what they should do is make Mako fall in love with a water bender boy so we got everyone paired with the opposite elements.

Opal and Bolin..earth and air.

Korra and Asami... avatar and non bender.

Legend of Korra Rant about queer representation, capitalism and police

Okay...so if you have been following me or liking/reblogging my stuff then you know that I was an OG Korra stan. Last year when Avatar and legend of Korra came back on Netflix a lot of queer people watched, anticipating the queer representation only to be disappointed in the surprising lack of overt on screen queerness As a side, I still just don’t understand how people think that Korra is straight or cis. Idk, there is this theory/head canon I have that Korra is Two-Spirit because she is indigenous, exudes both masculine and feminine energy and literally had hundreds of past lives inside of her for the first 17 years of her life. 

Anyway, a lot of queer radicals that I have met who have watched the show have complained about Legend of Korra being queer bait and pro police-state, and pro capitalism and it kinda pisses me off, because that’s not true.  This show doesn’t take a side. For better or for worse, It shows the complexities of a city in the middle of an industrial boom, but that doesn’t mean it is pro-capitalist. The show wouldn’t have even touched what hoarding wealth does to communities if that were true. There would have been no representation of poverty or how KIDS get caught up in gangs in order to survive, nor would they have shown how Hiroshi Sato’s alliance to the Equalists almost destroyed his company or his daughter’s WHOLE LIFE. Like Asami was straight up on the verge of financial ruin in Book 2. THATS A LOT FOR AN 18 YEAR OLD TO DEAL WITH.  Concerning the Metalbending police force: I don’t know why people tend to forget this EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AND PIVOTAL SCENE in Book 1 where the police cut the electricity to the homes of nonbenders. Police Chief Saikhan was kettling the nonbenders and  threatening them with violence if they didn’t go home and follow that ridiculous curfew instated by Tarrlok that SCREAMED McCarthyism DESPITE the police INSTIGATING the situation. One of the nonbenders says “Please help us, You’re our Avatar too!” and Korra steps in threatening both the police and Tarrlok before he has Asami arrested for breaking curfew and throws Mako and Bolin in Jail for good measure.  That’s police brutality. And that scene in Book 1 should have been enough to show that this show was not pro police or pro police-state (See: Kuvira being an evil dictator -_-) 

The police aren’t shown in a good light in this show. In fact they are almost always seen as an oppressive force, even when Lin Beifong is Chief.  

As far as queer representation goes, it was 2014. Gay Marriage wasn’t legal in the USA. Nickelodeon was fucking with the creators. They gave us what they could without having the show be outright cancelled. Korra and Asami holding hands while walking into the spirit portal was SO important to us! 

ALSO it wasn’t like Mike and Bryan pulled a JK Rowling and was like yep Korra’s gay and then NEVER delivered. Not only did they immediately deliver Korrasami content, they told people that Korrasami was canon and everyone who disliked that could die mad about it. Then They gave us the continuation of the story in comic book form with LOTS of sweet Korrasami moments, and THENturned around and said YOU KNOW WHAT? KYOSHI’S BI TOO! HAVE SOME BOOKS ABOUT IT.  Mike and Bryan and the whole creative Team Avatar have delivered some of the most culturally aware content that I have ever seen in my entire life, and I hope they keep creating more. Avatar the Last Airbender, Legend of Korra and The Rise/Shadow of Kyoshi are gifts that we should be so lucky to have.

Not to be bisexual on main, but Legend of Korra has three canon queer ships, actually.

Like, when lok got first broadcasted on TV, you obviously wouldn’t have known it, but for anyone who got the Korrasami spoiler before watching, or who watched the show more than once, you should be able to recognize that both the Mako/Korra and Mako/Asami ships are just as bi as Korrasami. Why? Because both those ships contain a canon bisexual character! Bi people in opposite sex relationships are not straight, they’re still bi.

Having Korrasami be endgame was amazing and revolutionary, representation for same sex relationships is absolutely vital and I love Korrasami, but that doesn’t make Mako/Korra or Mako/Asami “more straight” than Korrasami. Bisexuality isn’t “het light™” where half the time you’re straight and the other half gay, you’re bi 100% of the time. 

All three ships are 100% bi/queer and that’s amazing!

Hi, Ace Toph hc anon here! I totally agree people should be able to hc characters however they choose! Hc Toph as an aroace lesbian, ace, and a demiro lesbian are really great hcs and completely valid. I think it’s kind of comparable to ppl writing Bolin and Asami as cis in fan works. It’s like woah I forgot that ppl think of character as ‘xyz’ haha. Your wording is great and I get the point you’re conveying! I apologize for the long text I went on a rant too lol.

The biphobia in this fandom sometimes. I swear it’s palpable on so many different levels. My friend (a lesbian) paints Asami and Korra as lesbians and honestly I don’t get it. They’re both attracted to men AND women? Again people can have their hc’s but it’s really hurtful to erase bi representation in media. Like a while back she identified as bisexual and I thought she would understand that making/ enjoying jokes like “lol Mako turns all of his exes lesbian” to be super biphobic and not very funny. Or when people say they ship Wuko bc Mako deserves to suffer. Can we stop using the reason people/characters are lgbtq+ bc men have done them wrong in relationships or deserve “dealing with someone just as bad.”

Also 100% my hc is Zuko being bi you’re not alone! While they’re not my otp I definitely think he had genuine (romantic) feelings for Mai and other women he dated. But again that’s up for a person to speculate as comphet or not. The problem, like you said, definitely arises when there’s a double standard for people being adamant about hc men as gay and hesitant/against women as lesbians. I get when people say it’s somewhat stereotypical for Toph to be a lesbian but there ARE women that identify as lesbian that fit being tough, strong, and ngc. Like she fits the sort of aro/ace, butch vibe. AND THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. I’m tired of people acting like being butch is something negative! Ngc lesbians should be able to be hc in the fandom. You know what I redact my earlier statement on hc Toph as just ace. I definitely see Toph being an aro, aroace, or a demiro lesbian 😤😤😤!

People can hc what they want but don’t hold double standards. It’s funny how like you said ppl hc Wu and Zuko as 1000% gay (imo bc of stereotypical actions/characteristics). But turn around and say that others shouldn’t hc characters as lesbians bc of stereotypes and characteristics/point out canonical events disproving the hc of said lesbian character.

oh anon this is so thoughtful thank you so much! you understood EXACTLY what I was saying and I’m so glad bc I was honestly a little afraid to say it. the analogy to people writing Bolin and Asami as cis is a great one, I get so into my own hcs that I forget sometimes that people don’t have the same one that I do. 

OH MY FUCKING GOSH THE BIPHOBIA IN THIS FANDOM. I HATE IT SO MUCH. I am not bisexual myself but I have friends who are and just in general seeing someone else be shit on for the way they identify pisses me off. Honestly, the Korra and Asami situation is one of the few where I do think “having your own hcs” is harmful, just because bisexual representation (esp bisexual representation of women of color) is so rare and I do think it’s erasure to interpret them as not having been genuinely attracted to Mako. Further, I agree the joke of “Mako turned Korra and Asami into lesbians” is super not funny, in part bc I am a Mako stan but also bc lesbians have had a history of our attraction being attributed to trauma or bad relationships w men and that is a trope I would rather not contribute to!

and yes bi Zuko!!!!! I def agree that he had genuine, romantic feelings for Mai (now, whether she had genuine, romantic feelings for him is a whole nother question). and yes I don’t understand the issue with hcing her as a lesbian? I mean I guess if your only lesbian hcs are Toph and Azula I would maybe encourage you to question your thought process, but the people I’ve largely seen make lesbian hcs about Toph or Azula also have them for other female atla characters (for my part, I also hc Mai and Ty Lee as lesbians). and people acting as if being a butch lesbian is a negative thing is SUCH AN ISSUE, not just in this fandom but in all kinds of spaces!!! being a butch lesbian is a wonderful thing to be!!! and yeah it’s,,,,,interesting. for the record, I def also hc Wu as gay, but I find it so interesting that it’s a problem for people to hc Toph as a lesbian because it’s “stereotypical” but it’s fine for people to hc Wu as gay??? like honestly I just want people to be consistent but they never are.

I love your ideas for lok rewrite! May I add a few as well? Here's some of my ideas: Korra gets trained by each one of the gaang's bending children. To add to the whole friendship lasting more than one lifetime. Asami gets trained by Iroh jr and Suki and Sokka(no benders!). Asami has a zuko style redemption arc(she was supposed to in be a badguy in the show and idea inspired me). Basically korra and asami are zutara 2.0. Mako and Bolin well

They meet Korra as children instead of like in canon. Mako is gay, and falls for an annoying earth kingdom prince. Bolin falls for Taang's grandchild. Team avatar are all friends in the beginning. Till they find out Asami is a spy for amon(but she has a change of heart because of korra). The gaang got grow old together. Aang and maybe later sokka are just one of the first to die.

The show spanneds over 4 to five years. Start with most of gaang being 13 and 14 and ending when there 17 and 18. Aang died thirteen years ago. Over the show each member of the gaang dies of old age till only Zuko and Toph are left. The last episode they die happy in their sleep. Korra and Asami have a zutara type relationship. Mako and earth king prince distator gays. And Bolin is bi.

Now the villains. Amon stays mostly the same except he's actually a noun bender. He made a deal with a evil spirit in the spirit world who hated the avatar. Korra has to deal with the fact that a lot of what non benders deal with is right but his way of doing things are wrong and not right. Thats how she learns to forgive asami and see her point of few. Also the same with asami. At first she has tons of zuko like angst when it comes to asami and betraying amon.

I ADORE the idea of Korra being taught by the Gaang’s kids and grandkids. That’s brilliant! Because that’s what made the Gaang so strong. They were benders and non-benders from the Four Nations working together. Ooh! Asami with a redemption arc could have Azula as a role model? I think it thematically fits more than with Zuko (them being two female characters, essentially). We never did know what happened to Azula, too. And I think she should have a better reason to switch sides than Korra, so Azula could be her Uncle Iroh!

Awww I love Mako and Bolin’s new takes! I love “poor person with royalty/rich person” trope. It’s one of my favourite. And Bolin with Taang’s grandchild!! Yes!!

I don’t want to watch my favourite characters to die, though. Nope, nope, nope! No, thank you. Aang’s death is already too sad for me. I want to see them live throughout the show! 

Ooh, Amon is the guy who wears the mask and wants freedom for the non-benders, right? Well in this version, because the world revolves so much around bending already, maybe it’s the benders who feel exploited. Kind of like in Zootopia, how the predators were the ones being oppressed. The non-benders feel useless because they lack bending, like Sokka did in the show in Sokka’s Master especially, and the benders feel exploited, so the discussion about benders/non-benders’ rights could be more nuanced. Maybe we could see Koh the Face Stealer with Amon! Since he wears a mask!

Lupin, Jigen, and Goemon always play rock-paper-scissors after a big heist to decide who’ll give the group a striptease, and who will get showered with money. Based on a piece of fanart that is basically this sequence of events in a 4koma (except in their version Jigen loses and in mine, it’s Goemon). (written, just needs editing)

Zenigata cuffs Lupin four times, and Lupin steals his heart. Very NSFW conclusion. Zenigata is the most caring lover you’ll ever find. Lupin is as thirsty as usual and twice as intense. (written, just needs editing)

Jigen protects Lupin from poison darts during a treasure hunt in an Aztec temple, and Lupin nurses him back to help--forcibly, since Jigen is a horrible patient. Born from my desire to spoil Jigen and talk about what ridiculous domestic husbands these two are. (WIP)

Born from the idea that Goemon and Zenigata probably couldn’t be an item, my brain decided to come up with how I could write for them. Goemon’s teaching an ikebana class as part of his training, and Zenigata shows up as a student on forced recreational leave for his health from the ICPO. Zenigata wins the samurai’s heart through flowers. But what happens when Lupin and Jigen find out? (Only good sexy things, I promise. These beans are in a healthy polycule--be gay, do crimes)

Trans!Lupin and Trans!Jigen premise: Jigen cares for Lupin after the master thief has top surgery, since Jigen has Been There and Done That. Caring, sweet, and a little sexy. Lupin is a much better patient than Jigen.

- Sonic Vampire Novelist Coffee Shop AU: 📚☕💐 

Shadow is an immortal vampire who has seen the world change for the worse too many times. These days it feels like he only lives for his coffee dates with Rouge, another immortal who loves each new era they encounter, warts and all. He has to admit that the book series she got him into speaks to him, at least. If someone in this era can understand him without meeting him, it can’t all be bad. But he hardly expected the goofy blue barista at the new coffee place to understand him the way those books do.

This is a novel length romcom romp with some big feelings about what it means to watch as things change, grow, and die. Expect lots of Big gothic feelings from this one, emotionally charged kissing, and overly-adoring sex. But also expect shenanigans from everyone in the coffee shop, which include Rouge, Amy, Tails, Knuckles, Cream, and more.

- Sonic Blazamy: 💖🌸💎

Amy Rose has been in love with Sonic for a while.

When the Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Silver are trapped as the fuel sources for Doctor Eggman’s newest evil scheme, Amy teams up with Blaze, Rouge, and Cream to save them. With Sonic out of the picture and Amy fulfilling his role, was she ever really in love with him? Or did she just want to be like him?

This is a novel length epic romance with lots of competent women and lots of romantic Blazamy content. Expect flowery hopes and dreams, badass self-actualization, and glancing hand touches that give way to cuddly and sweet sex.

- Persona 5: 🗡🍛☕

After bringing down the Metaverse twice, Ryuji didn’t think graduating high school and figuring out what to do with his life would be so hard. Akira’s back in town, and the gang’s more-or-less all in Tokyo, but everyone else seems to have a plan while Ryuji just floats. How’s he supposed to change the world when he’s not a phantom thief anymore?

This is a novel length fic that addresses how powerless one can feel being just one person in the face of all the corrupted systems and bigotry the world has to offer. It’s about holding on to what you believe in, working through the doubt, and fighting your way to a better tomorrow with the power you do have. The whole gang is queer, featured relationships being Mako x Ann, Ryuji x Akira, Futaba & Yusuke as platonic life partners. Akira is polyamorous and omnisexual, Futaba’s asexual and aromantic while Yusuke is demisexual and very romantic, Makoto’s a lesbian, Ann and Ryuji are bi, and Haru’s pansexual, demisexual, and aromantic. They’re one giant band of queer Phantom Thieves, and even if they’re not really doing the Metaverse thing anymore, they’re still gonna save the world!

Also, I’m gonna make Makoto not a cop. That super didn’t age well. Zenkichi and his boss can work on making them better/abolishing them for other better organizations.

- Hades Game: ❤️‍🔥💀

Oneshot. I just really need to elaborate on the threesome you can have with them in-game, okay? Healthy and canon poly relationships are so few and far between, so often I have to do a ton of groundwork to explain why it’s working in the fic, but NOT WITH THESE KIDS!

Get ready for Meg helping Zag and Than be better at expressing their feelings, lots of kissing, and probably pegging.

- Castlevania Animation Trevor/Sypha/Alucard: 🧛🏰🛌 

Castlevania gave Alucard a threesome last season, and I just really need S4 to give me him being taken care of by his partners. They’re probably not going to give it to me, so I’ll need to do it myself. This is just an everybody loves Alucard oneshot, with the gang’s signature banter (to an extent), Sypha being sexy, and Trever being remarkably sincere. This fic is gonna feel like that Ann Hathaway picture with Trevor kissing Alucard and Sypha holding the end of Trevor’s whip while she leans her head on Alucard’s shoulder adoringly.

- Devil May Cry Nico/Lady/Trish: 💋✨😈 

Nico’s gay, okay? Like really, really gay. And Lady’s bi and not into men who make her pay bills, but very into women who make amazing guns for her and demonesses with hearts who fight by her side. Trish is ace, but loves people and is pretty attached to Lady at this point. Plus it’s cute when Lady blushes and says nice things like they’re insults. I don’t have super solid ideas for them yet, and I envision these more like a polycule where Lady’s with Nico and with Trish but they’re not with each other more than seeing it as a threesome, but who knows what might happen. This is probably 1-2 oneshots depending on ideas, but might turn into a series of oneshots if people are interested (or I can’t control myself and inspiration strikes).

- Post FMA:B Blind Roy & No Alchemy Ed: 👀👑🙏

This is actually an old novel-length fic I wrote ages ago and didn’t post that didn’t turn out well because I was new to writing sex when I first wrote it. The plot is good, and is all about Roy learning to work with his blindness to reclaim his ambition of being Fuhrer and changing the system to something that actually cares for its people. He and Ed reconnect, fall into bed, and both set about working through their respective traumas about being “useless” having lost their sight/alchemy. They go to Xing as an ambassadorial party to offer Amestris’s collaboration on Al and May’s Alkahestry experiments--and uncover a plot that might threaten both kingdoms.

- Age of Calamity continuity Mipha x Revali: 🦚🐟💘

The first time Revali noticed Mipha, it was in the heat of battle. She stole his mark, taking them down with a flurry of quick blows from her spear. Violence rained from her like water--and then she healed him on her way to her next battle. No questions, no conditions, just pure kindness. The usual need to measure himself against those around him was quiet in her wake. And Revali couldn’t understand it. But how to get to know more about her? A fish and bird may fall in love, but where would they live?

This fic could be a oneshot or novel length depending on how far down the hole I fall. I need it to cover time, but it could be done in linked vignettes or with actually covering events in detail. I may elect to do a oneshot just to get it done and out of my system faster. So much fic to write, so little time.

Expect trans!Revali, polyamorous Zoras, scary competent Mipha, songbird Revali, love confessions that are made up entirely of berating Link for not loving Mipha the way she wants him to, and breaking these characters a little outside of their assigned roles in BotW and Age of Calamity. I just think Urbosa should kiss women and Zelda’s mom should get more development and maybe a name or something. Also, lightning imagery/metaphors/play.

It also went way over my head that Riju wasn’t Urbosa’s daughter the first time I played BotW, so now I want to write about the Gerudo queen who refused to produce an heir. The Gerudo are fascinating and have a very interesting cutlure, but I think it could be examined from a nonbinary perspective that rejected pregnancy and wanting to find a husband. Not in like a hateful way, but in a way that examines if that’s really right for everyone. There’s that shop in town that sells Voe armor, after all. Maybe finding a husband and having children isn’t something you have to do if you don’t want to. And Urbosa really doesn’t want to.

I’ve decided to do headcanons for korra (and co.) had they been in a normal/modern school (some of them are kind of canon but are talked about like they might be in a school i guess)

korra 

hates the restrictions given by teachers for assignments but scores average, if not a little above 

is the kid that you fear for your life if you’re put on the opposing team in gym

wears tank tops every day to show off her muscles (that’s actually canon, folks)

starts 3 fights a day and always wins

is actually really nice but people can be easily scared of her

will give you her food if you forgot yours

sits with the kid that’s sitting alone and brings her whole friend group with her

If you’re mean she will punch you in the face, and you will have a bloody or broken nose

very proud of being bi (as she and everyone who is LGBT+ should be proud of themselves) and loves supporting other people

Okay, supernatural (not the show) au!

Bolin is bitten by a werewolf as a kid. 

Mako and Bolin have been lucky that they’ve been placed in a foster home together but they’re both away of the very real possibility that they could be separated in the future. So they sneak, steal and hoard away what they can until they finally run away and try living on the edge of the city which borders the woods. Dun Dun Dun, they’re attacked and Bolin is bit. 

Panic - hospital - found - separated, but not too far. I don’t know who their separate foster (or perhaps adopted) families are but they don’t have the closest eye on Mako. He spends every moment he can with his brother, even sneaking into Bolin’s foster home to stay the night with him whether or not the adults want him to. 

Bolin knows he’s a werewolf, he doesn’t know how and Mako tries and tries to tell him otherwise but he just knows. And he panics when it’s close to the full moon until he can get Mako to promise to lock him up in the woods. Obviously Mako is like “what the fuck, no” but he ends up caving in just to help Bolin relax. Come full moon they sneak out and Mako “chains” him to a tree. (near where they were attacked, they’re young boys, they’re not the smartest)

In this au werewolves are not completely out of control and unaware so Bolin doesn't out right try to kill Mako. But he’s young so he’s wild and not in complete control either and both of them are scared. 

In comes grumpy old senior wolf, Toza! (He’s not the one who bit Bo.) Who basically like “fuck ... this is not my responsibility” but he can’t just turn a blind eye to poor little Bolin and his freaking out older brother either. Toza sort of takes Bolin under his wing and by extension Mako. So their eyes are open to the world of magic and monster. 

Realizing he is completely helpless in protecting his brother, pesters Toza to teach him all he can about magic. Toza not knowing a lick of magic sort of guides Mako in the right direction. And in that direction Mako find Zolt. 

Toza is like “what, no, fuck, not him” but Mako’s in it now and it’s not like Toza really has any other suggestion. (Zolt may or may not play a bigger part in the story because of this.)Mako is more or less self taught in magic. Zolt isn’t exaction going to hold his hand and he’s not going to be patient. He’s not teaching for free either, not sure what the price is but it’s probably not ethical. 

Fast forward, Mako has guardianship over Bolin they live in the shabby apartment that Toza live in. Mako mostly does maintenance and handy jobs while Bolin works with people like at a cafe or at a pet store. (Bolin is also 17 and his job options are limited.)((Also Toza is the school janitor, I thought about gym teacher but naw. Bolin is liked by others well enough but also known as the weird kid who spends his lunch with the janitor.))

Asami has a slight interest in the supernatural but she doesn’t actually believe in all that stuff. Her mother was killed in a burglary gone wrong and that’s all she knows. She sort of blocked out that magic fire killed her mother, and father never corrected her. He keeps his studies and hate of the occult close to his chest.)

Asami and Mako had a thing in this au and it wasn’t bad but Mako still has all his crap he needs to work through and doesn’t provide emotionally in a way that Asami craves and needs so they ended it. On much better, less awkward terms than in canon. (Not to mention Mako keeps his magic and more importantly Bolin’s secret close to his chest and has trust issues which is a problem for any relationship.)

They are since great friends and she’s the cheer captain of team “go to collage Mako we all know you want to”. Bolin is co captain. He keeps putting it off saying that he needs to take care of Bolin and that it’s too expensive. 

I can’t decide on Korra. What the Avatar with equate to in this world. Maybe Korra isn’t “special” in the world at all but in still born into it. She might be some sort of elemental (water of course), or a medium of some sorts to still associate her with spirits. I don’t have a reason why she moved to Republic City yet. 

Korra’s either in her last leg of high school or just graduated (depending on the time of yeah in the story I guess.) Korra and Mako sort of have this mutual “attraction” but it doesn’t actually go anywhere. They’re young and dumb af but have just enough sense to realize that arguing with each other 40 to 60% of the time isn’t a good basis for a relationship.

Bolin jokes about being a werewolf all the time. Like, every chance he gets even in subtle ways that people might not get. So Korra being born into that world realizes pretty quick that Bolin and Mako are playing on her side of the fence. Bolin and Korra are like ... lets tell Asami, it’s cool, she’s our friend. Mako is the only one who is like lets ... not???? ‘Cause you know, paranoid. 

To be fair Toza drilled into their heads about people who hate and hunt folk like them. Bolin took it in stride as he does and Mako locked it among his issues, as he does. Korra also had these lessons but she’s in her reckless “god can’t kill me” phase of her life. 

Not telling Asami does put them at odds with her a bit, she’s not an idiot and can tell that they’re keeping things from her. It’s not weird coming from Mako, she’s use to aversion to any sort of vulnerability but it starts to become so obvious when it comes to Korra and Bolin. Eventually she gives them no choice but to tell her. When Mako isn’t there of course, not that it matters because she runs to Mako immediately after because she can catch him off guard and he wouldn’t lie to her if she demands the truth.

Depending on what Korra ends up being, Mako is also the more equip to present small examples of magic at least.

Of course the moment she wraps her head around it, Asami is in it 110%. She is researching, asking them questions, trying to be the best supportive friend they have. As she does. It’s also when she realizes that some of the all collections of her fathers aren’t all just rare little pointless knick-knacks but she chalks it up to nothing. 

Idk much about the other characters. 

Opal frequents the cafe that Bolin works at. They’ve got a whole cute mushy thing going on. 

Mako is repressed bi disaster of course. Possibly aro, it depends on my mood.

Obviously Korra and Asami are crushing on each other in that “we just great friends, the best, like sister, just the closest ........... fuck” kind of way. Cause why not get some hopeless gay pining up in this bitch. (I sort of like Korra realizing she’s a lesbian. Like this story aside, she has a realization that her attraction to Mako was less “oh he’s hot” and more “oh he’s cool and I want to be his friend”. And the older she gets the more she really only has attraction to women and had thought she was bi but then later identified as lesbian.)

Maaaybe Amon and whoever the fuck his brother, what’s his face, are vampires???? Keep a semblance of the blood theme.

Maybe the Beifong’s are hunters? Like, not “rah, gotta kill everything that’s not human” kind of stupid but keep the people whacked up on supernatural juice in check and from killing a ton of people just because they can. Maybe not all of them, like perhaps Su is very pro monsters and their rights and thinks they should live and let live while Lin is still all about order and no one, human, monsters or otherwise should be above the regulations and laws. So Su start hanging around the monster and magic crowed, and the not the best kind, which put the sisters at odds in this story. 

I kept hoping that the more I typed, the more I’d figure things out ... But all this set up and I still can’t find me a plot.

What are your top 5 notps

These are gonna be in no particular order btw so ye! Also Ma/bill and Mab/ifica aren’t gonna be included as I already talked about why I don’t like those ships and why are they are part of my ever-growing notp list. 

1. D/rarry (Harry Potter)

Honestly? Just don’t like it. Like... that’s it. I like Dramione well enough, it was actually one of the first ships I started reading fanfiction for (as I just so happened to find a fic that sounded interesting that had it, read it, and was hooked) and I am a multi-shipper with certain characters, so by all means I should like d/rarry but I just don’t?

My theory for why I dislike this ship is easy: I find protag/antag ships kinda boring now after doing like. Everything with bill/dip. Don’t get me wrong, bill/dip and d/rarry are. Very different in numerous ways, but d/rarry reminds me of bill/dip and I already played and read about the dynamics of a protag/antag ship like this, so trying to get into d/rarry, which is similar, was boring for me. 

Also, in general, I don’t ship Harry with anyone? Like I dislike h/inny too, but that’s more of “I don’t like it, but it’s canon, and I have to deal with it so might as well just Not Care” instead of outright hating it. And though I say I would’ve preferred Harry to end up with Hermione, I don’t ship those two together either!

The only ship with Harry I kinda sorta like is Harry/Luna and even then, I see them as being something really low-key. No sexual relationship, just them being good friends and being borderline, what they would consider “romantic” once in a blue moon. And that’s it? 

Anyways, I find d/rarry boring and I feel like there isn’t anything new to the ship for me and shipping Harry w anyone sexually or in a heavily romantic way makes me kinda uncomfortable and I Don’t Like It so yeah. 

2. Amenadiel/Linda (Lucifer) 

God. Idk how many people who follow me watch Lucifer but this ship is. No. No? Nooooo?

They’re just. So awkward together. They’re kinda awkward together as friends but their awkward friendship is more kinda cute than anything. But together like... romantically? No? Pls no?

I also ship Linda with Maze like. A lot. A lot a lot. I ship Linda w Maze more than I do Chloe w Lucifer at least like. I am actively talking to the TV when I see Linda and Maze together to PLEASE KISS PLEASE YA’LL ARE SO GAY FOR EACH OTHER ITS OBV PLS KISS 

Hasn’t happened yet but. But. It could happen. I am really hoping this ain’t q*eer/baiting tho. I r r r hope so. I mean. Maze and Lucifer are both confirmed to be bi/pan basically (tho Lucifer seems to have a pref for women) so there are technically lgbt+ characters in the show already but like. But. B u t. 

Anyways. Luckily for me, it looks like Amenadiel/Linda won’t be canon at ALL and I really hope it stays that way and they stay kinda awkward friends. That’s cuter and a lot more interesting than shipping them together in my book. 

3. Hermione/Snape (Harry Potter)

Is anyone surprised this is a ship, really? I mean if you’ve been on tumblr for any length of time you’re prob sayin’ nah. Thing is, I found about this ship years before I had a tumblr and on ffnet so I was kinda. Shocked? As I didn’t realize how. Weird ships could get. 

And I can’t really say much about adult/minor ships or teacher/student whatever. I really can’t. But this is just so. Fucking random? Like. I guess bill/dip is random too.... but also i feel Hermione/Snape is even more so. 

And idk most the fics I’ve seen of this ship is just standard student/teacher shit nothing all that. Interesting I guess to me? which is if you like standard student/teacher whatever I guess but that doesn’t cut it for me.

But again. Why? Is it because Hermione is muggle-born and Snape an ex-magical na//zi? That’s.... even I wouldn’t touch that can of worms Jesus Christ. Like. I don’t get it. I don’t get it, I don’t wanna get it, and I’m gonna continue disliking it from my own corner and mind my own business ‘cause I don’t even wanna know.  

4. Kat/aang (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

Z/utara should’ve been canon

No really I grew up watching A/tla and like. It was my fav show and I. Really liked Katara and Zuko together esp as I only shipped canon ships at that time for the most part (or if I didn’t like it I’d just ignore it but not actively ship those characters with anyone else) as I was young and didn’t think you could. Ship two people who aren’t together in canon I guess. 

But then. Kat/aang happened and I went “Wtf” and “that’s not right Zuko and Katara should’ve been together wtf wtf” I felt really cheated. And so Z/utara was the first technical non-canon ship I ever had.

Another reason I dislike kat/aang is that, for me, it felt forced, and the kat/anng episodes (like cave of two lovers or whatever its called) are just. Boring. And dumb. And not that good. I felt like they ended up together bc protagonist and deuteragonist not because I felt they went well together.

Idk! I felt like Aang and Katara had a more sibling relationship together! Like she was more of an older sister to Aang than anything else! And his crush on her was more like the young boy who has a crush on his older babysitter sorta thing but obv that would never go anywhere and it’d fade. 

That’s the general vibe I got so when they got together I was. Kinda uncomfortable. Because I felt they had a sibling relationship. And I felt it kinda came out of left field, was forced, and just. Stereotypical? Boring?

I mean I still enjoy the show and it’s, again, kinda like a “well it’s canon so whatever” but I still dislike it a lot and still feel like z/utara should’ve been canon. 

5. Ma/korra

I liked Korra well enough, but lets be real, the first season had some MAJOR issues trying to include a stupid love triangle like they were adapting some shitty YA novel. And even tho the second season was kinda blah as well, the third and fourth season made up for the previous two in my book.

But... ma/korra was just. A fucking mess. I hate this ship as I hate the things is stands for. 

The girl hate between Korra and Asami, Korra being a fucking asshole to Bolin (WHO IS A SWEETIE PIE HOW COULD YOU) and just. Me sitting there. Going “Are we really doing this. Are we really. How could you write a series as amazing as a:tla and think that a short sequel series needed something as complex as a LOVE TRIANGLE. 

(and yes: proper long triangles are very hard to pull off, very complex, could be a plot in itself, and that’s why most everything fails when incorporating one as a subplot lol) 

When the love triangle popped up, I just. No. No. Mako isn’t a bad guy ‘cause he liked Asami instead of Korra. Asami isn’t a bad guy ‘cause she liked Mako back. And the narrative kinda painted both of them as being “bad” because... idk Korra didn’t get the guy? Like Christ. Please stop. Please stop characterizing Korra as a fucking asshole and some sort of girl version of a Nice Guy TM. 

And though I think Korra and Mako did get some nice moments between each other once together, and though overall their relationship, on paper minus all the other shit wasn’t like. Pure garbage or anything, I def ship Korra with Asami a hell of a lot more. And the entire love triangle bullshit just. Ruined Mako and Korra, at least in my opinion. (Bolin and Asami came from that unscathed for me). It took me quite a while to start liking Mako again ‘cause of the love triangle and same with Korra.

So I guess for ma/korra it’s less the ship itself (tho imo the ship itself isn’t that special and kinda whatever) I hate the ship for what it did to the show and what it reminds me of. If that makes any sense.

do you have a problem with polyamory?

Nope. Not something I’m interested in for myself personally, not something I’m particularly interested in reading about in fiction, but I really have no objection to it if it’s what floats your boat. 

I do, however, have a problem with the way it’s been treated in tumblr shipping communities. This “Korra Has Two Hands” type of thing doesn’t really feel like a call for representation, so much as a catch-all “everybody wins” solution to a ship war where none is necessary. 

To use Korra, Asami, and Mako as an example (looking back to pre-Endgame), it seems on its surface like a win-win, now Makorra shipers and Korrasami shippers can both have their headcanon no matter what endgame plays out!!

But, of course, it’s not a win-win, because not everyone who ships Korrasami or Makorra would enjoy viewing it as a poly ship. In response to this, people sorta treated people on both sides, who wanted Korra to be with Yes Asami and Not Mako, or people who wanted her to be with Yes Mako and Not Asami, like they were the ones creating the annoying love triangle and they were just being unreasonable, because polyamory solves all love triangles, of course, even if it doesn’t make sense, even if “I ship something else” isn’t your only reason for disliking the other ship!!

And the real issue here is, why does there need to be a win-win? If, for instance, you ship Makorra and hate Korrasami, and I like Korrasami but hate Makorra, why would we need to try to come to a consensus where Both Things Can Be True? I don’t want your thing to be true. You don’t want my thing to be true. Let’s not pretend this is about representing polyamorous people or open relationships or anything about that, a lot of the time it boils down to two people who disagree on something attempting to create common ground where there is none. 

I appreciate the attempt at sharing, but anyone can date anybody you like in make-believe land, and me saying I think Rafael is a better match for Jane Villanueva (someone who would absolutely not be interested in any form of polyamory or open relationship) than Michael doesn’t really need to compromise so that I’m in agreement with people who feel the opposite way. We can just.... disagree....

Now, I’m definitely in favor of more representation for polyamorous relationships, and I’m not saying all polyamorous headcanons are like this. What I am saying is that I’m confused because whenever I express that I started disliking a non-canon ship because I now prefer the canon ship, or when I dislike a canon ship and prefer a non-canon one that I hope happens eventually, I’m greeted with a choir of “but what if [character] was polyamorous? then BOTH ships could get what they want!”

I don’t want the other ship to get what they want. I don’t see why we should have to reach a compromise. It’s okay if you ship both things as a polyamorous or open relationship, but don’t pretend like it’s this Obvious Magic Solution to every love triangle that people just haven’t considered as an option. Presumably, in the establishment of the love triangle, the protagonist has already come to a firm decision as to whether or not they’d be comfortable dating both people and whether or not the other two people would be comfortable with that, and if the answer was “yes” then they would’ve done that instead of having a love triangle in the first place. 

So, to answer your original question, no, I have no problem with polyamory, and I’d have no objection to seeing it actually written into some canon relationships, but I do have a problem with the fact that every time I have a problem with Cheating Content (which is very very different), or every time I support one line of a Love Triangle and dislike another, I’m shot down with “but what about polyamory?” like I just hadn’t thought of it. 

It really reminds me of the small but vocal crowd of people who ship an m/f pairing and have zero interest in bisexual representation until they find out other people headcanon one of those characters as gay (or that one of those characters is Confirmed Gay) and suddenly they’re all about headcanoning that character as Bi so neither of them has to be wrong, even though.... it’s totally okay if one of them is wrong........

And then when I answer that question with “no, that isn’t what floats my boat” someone invariably sends me a message saying “do you have a problem with polyamory?”
