relistening to the bifrost

everything goes chaotic almost the moment the blackbox is fixed - which makes sense. lyf can see all the recordings. he can see what happened.

but a lot of eldritchy media gives a theme of "if you see the Thing you go insane" and how seeing everything will drive you mad

"The recordings are clear now. I can see everything."

blackboxes are usually made of steel or titanium. they are made to keep data safe.

yet the train's blackbox got corrupted

by yog sothoth, by this entity so powerful, so all-consuming it cannot be seen, cannot be recorded. but it gets fixed, somehow, and then things go to shit

the next song is the first Ragnarok song. everything gets faster, more chaotic, and the line between Lyf and Yog Sothoth blurs as Jonny chants the eldritch lyrics. because the recordings are clear now, and Luf can see everything - everything.

things he should never have seen. things the blackbox itself was trying to keep him from seeing.

immediately after the recordings become clear, the album tips into eldritch chanting. things happen very very quickly and it almost has this sense of gping backwards from the moment everything went to shit back to the events leading up to it, whereas the first part of the album goes forward, and then it jumps back to thor and sigyn in the engine room

the album hinges on that moment.

i have listened to this album so many times i can sing along to almost the entire thing and i still notice things about it

The Bifrost Incident character designs!

Some notes:

Without getting into too much detail, the idea I had was that in the past the style was more of the 80s rock scene, while in the present it’s evolved a little into the classic Memphis fashion that we all think of when we think of the 80s. If, like me, you wish there was more than just Lyf’s outfit to portray all this, you can perhaps imagine the mechs prison gang decked out in the most garish 80s style you can imagine.

Music inspo: rock music! While rock wasn’t invented in the 80s, it was a transformative time for the scene, especially for hard rock and heavy metal. It was a little hard choosing the 80s as the time period without leaning in to the psychedelic shapes and colors, especially when my mom said it didn’t look “80s enough”. I did try to incorporate some of the Lovecraftian aspect, but I think I could have done more in that sense.

The fashion style is meant to be a mix of 1000 (Norse Mythology) and 1980s (rock scene).
