Bobby makes comfort food for dinner, because they all need it after the awful morning—spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, iceberg lettuce salad. Eddie eats, but his head’s still going, so the comfort’s a little sparse.

He tries to call Chris after dinner, but Chris doesn’t pick up. They get called out to the beach for a dog bite; Eddie chases after the dog in question, but can’t catch him. He does almost wipe out on the boardwalk, though. Chim makes a crack about the full moon crazies, and Eddie rolls his eyes and twists to give Buck shit about it too, but of course Buck’s still not there.

You been in a mood all day, Hen says, nudging Eddie’s boot with her boot when they’re back in the rig. You good?

I’m good, Eddie says, just thinking about this morning, and everyone’s faces go somber as they agree. And it was a rough morning. But Eddie’s going to hell, because that’s not what he’s thinking about, not really.

It’s March 23rd. He could say that out loud, could remind everyone of the date, and no one would know why it matters. Because it doesn’t, to anyone else on the planet. They go check out an apartment building where someone burnt falafel. The problem apartment’s on the fifth floor with no elevator. He catches a few hours of sleep. The alarm wakes him from a dream about Shannon and Buck. Eddie, relax, Shannon said, smiling at Buck, who had his hand wrapped around her waist like he was her husband, not Eddie. We got this.

It’s a late night medical call at a memory care home; not much for him and Ravi to do, just playing support to Hen and Chim. He checks his phone, and there’s another text from Buck that came in while he slept: Chris and Dylan studying at the kitchen table, English books cracked open, Chris laughing at something Dylan said. It’s a live photo, so there’s even a couple seconds of Chris laughing in there, high pitched and silly. Eddie hearts it.

When they get back to the firehouse, the sun is rising, and it’s no longer Shannon’s birthday. Eddie should be relieved, but he just feels drained. She’d be thirty-four. No one warned him about this part—how every year you look back at the pictures and she just looks like more of a baby.

Cap claps him on the shoulder when he’s heading out to his truck, like he knows, even though there’s no way he could possibly know.

Eddie gets through morning traffic okay. He parks the truck, lets himself in. The house is pretty quiet, which means Chris is still asleep (typical teen.) Buck’s in the kitchen, doing last night’s dishes. He’s got rubber dish gloves on, and he gives Eddie a distracted smile over his shoulder as he comes in. Hey, he says.

Hey, Eddie says, and instead of any of the sane things he could say after that, like—how was your day yesterday, or is there coffee yet, or I think I’m gonna pass out for a few hours, he just steps in close, wraps his arms around Buck’s waist, and buries his face in Buck’s shoulder. Safe, familiar Buck smell in his nostrils. Solid Buck body in his arms, warm and pulsing with breath and heartbeat. Eddie exhales.

Buck turns off the faucet. He pulls off one rubber glove, then gives up on the other one and twists around in Eddie’s arms—Eddie participates reluctantly—until they’re front to front, and he can hug Eddie back. That is better, Buck fitting perfectly into him, holding him the same way Eddie is holding him. Eddie tilts his face into Buck’s neck, and Buck uses the hand that isn’t wearing a soapy dish glove to stroke over his hair. It feels good.

Bad shift? Buck murmurs, and Eddie doesn’t answer, frowning into Buck’s skin. Buck hums against his temple. That’s okay, he says anyway, soft and mindless. I got you, Eddie, I got you.

Eddie keeps breathing Buck in, keeps hanging on. Buck forgets about the rubber glove, and a wet soapy hand comes to rest over Eddie’s right scapula. A burst of fondness punctures the wall of relief.

Thanks, Eddie says finally, not letting him go yet, but trying to persuade himself that he’s going to.

Buck kisses his forehead. Anytime, he says, then uses his one normal hand and his other soapy hand to tilt Eddie up into a real kiss.

Eddie lets it happen, closing his eyes. He’s thirty-four. He was married for eight years; Shannon’s been gone for almost eight again. He has the best kid in the world; he has Buck, he has a meaningful job he’s grateful to still love. His best friend is dead, and he misses her. His best friend is kissing him right now, his heart beating fast and steady right against Eddie’s, and Eddie doesn’t have to miss him yet.

You taste like spaghetti, Buck murmurs dreamily into his mouth, and Eddie bursts out laughing, finally relaxes his death grip on Buck’s ribs. Guess I forgot to brush my teeth last night, sorry. Bobby made spaghetti? Buck says indignantly, like he was deliberately left out, and tries to lick the taste back out of Eddie’s mouth, which doesn’t work perfectly, because Eddie’s still laughing.

Can I just say I DO NOT recommend seeing this the same day as watching the new episode because I have had a DAY-

Personal rankings for the movies, best to "worst" is 3, 2, 4, 1.

Maybe it's because I had higher expectations instead of being given the best character in the franchise suddenly with no warning but I did still really REALLY love it. The highest point I can give it is easily the animation. Absolutely zero scenes in this movie feel like they fell to the standard of the anime. Everything was fluid and detailed and so fun to look at. And yes, of course it made every attack flashy as fuck. I was giddy every time Bakugou let out an explosion.

The premise did sound insane going in, and it is, but it's an anime side movie. Caring about the plot is a bonus, not a requirement. I guess my only real gripe is that it felt a little too fast? Very few scenes had time to breathe and unlike the other movies there wasn't really any slow establishing opening. If you come to MHA exclusively for the action, I think this one will be your new favorite.

Okay- I'm gonna just bullet point my highlights because I'm barely restrained enough to sit down and type.

First of all GIULIO!!!

Listen- I knew I would love this guy but oh my god babygirl~

He responds to literally everyone approaching him by pointing a gun at them. No comment this is just great

When Deku tells him to stop shooting at someone, he just pulls out a SECOND GUN and points it at him too

And in the second half he just,,,,cracks under the pressure so hard,, Man is having the WORST day of his life fr. It's really nice to know he and Anna are safe at UA rn. Poor things deserve it.

Anna and Giulio are really cute romantically, Giulio is definitely adult but he's going in the Deku harem anyway. You can't stop me, I am capable of worse.

Anna herself unfortunately doesn't get much time since she spends most of the movie mind controlled but she's harmlessly sweet and adorable. Anna they could never make me hate you.

I want to smear Dark Might across the side of a wall and given how much they overanimated his expressions, I believe this is the intended effect.

Am I the only one that hopes he sees the Mech Might livestream just to rub salt in the wound? Don't you dare let All Might's name fall from your mouth again, you bag of scum.

I really REALLY wanted Izuku to get pissed off and start naming off inconsistencies between how All Might and Dark Might look: "His eyes are SKY blue, not ocean blue, and while his broad features don't make it obvious, his chin was actually much slimmer, also you got the silver age colors wrong-!" alas... you know he was thinking it though-

Hello Castlevania: Nocturne S2 ramble coming through! I just finished it half an hour ago and I'm going to make it everyone else's problem.

(Spoilers ahead! Both about Castlevania: Nocturne and the previous Castlevania sequence)

Specifically, I'm focusing on the shadowy entity we see in this season that Olrox calls "Old man coyote" and "Mephistopheles".

Because these two names are associated with tricksters kinda entities. So one would think "Oh, the Devil right?", like Mizrak did.

EXCEPT

Both Olrox and Juste didn't seem to believe it was the Devil. And when two of the oldest/with more life experience characters both seem dubious on something that otherwise looks pretty clear, usually it means there's more to it. Right? (Pretend I'm not going insane thankyou)

(Also, pay attention, saying "the Devil" and "a devil" isn't the same. The Devil, capital D, is the big bad of the Christian faith.)

Some people speculate this entity might be "Death" from the previous Castlevania continuity, the same that Trevor had killed.

Here's what bugs me. People call it Death, even though Trevor states clearly that the entity isn't Death itself. Which might sound weird if one isn't familiar with mythology! Unfortunately for all of you, I really like mythology and especially the death aspects of mythology.

So, why is "Death" not actually death? And if it isn't actual death, what is it?

Ever since I saw in Castlevania the scene where Trevor and Sypha come across the shrine dedicated to death, I thought the writers had decided to include the aspect of "keres".

"Howlite, what the fuck does keres mean?" GREAT QUESTION

"Keres" (singular, ker) is the name of the collective deities/personifications of violent and cruel death in Greek mythology. Sisters of Thanatos (god of death, though he's more precisely associated with non-violent death) and daughters of Nyx, they are described as women (usually depicted with dark wings) who would be present wherever blood was spilled.

HOWEVER: they did not hold the power to kill.

Which is why I thought it would be confirmed that the "Death" we see in S4 was a ker, since it didn't hold the power to kill on its own (it wanted to summon Dracula to do it), nor did it have any control on the afterlife (a ker isn't a ruler of the afterlife or its inhabitants), yet it demanded bloodshed.

And here is where ethymology comes in play!

Keres are more specifically considered "daemones", which in greek mythology loosely meant spirits who were not inherently good nor evil.

However, with the spreading of Christianism and the intervention of the Church to eradicate older religions, the term "daemon" was transformed into the modern "demon", which today means an evil entity whose purpose is to cause harm.

Now. Why is this important to us?

Because in Nocturne S2, Mizrak specifically seems to associate the dark entity to "the Devil". Orlox says it wasn't... however, what's close to the Devil, while also not being it? Demons, who are simply entities that the Church branded as evil because belonging to pagan religions. Sometimes, those demons were gods in their original setting, which would grant them a status on par with the (Christian) Devil. Anyway.

Demons.

Daemones.

Death daemones.

Death daemones that enjoy bloodshed.

Keres.

The train thought needs some oiling but it's not all conjecture.

Of course, Olrox specifically recognising our boogyeman as a malevolent trickster could be either to the sly nature of this ker (or possibly this collective of keres, since the shadow had a fluid, always changing shape, as if multiple entities were present at the same time), the way one would call an annoying, entitled woman "Karen", so to speak, OR due to his own biases, being unaware of what a ker is.

There's also a chance that in the Castlevania universe, the keres took many forms over the ages in order to survive. But this is already dipping into fanfiction world building/AU area.

Regardless, I am convinced that "Death" in the first Castlevania sequence was a ker. It makes sense, given the context clues and its objective.

For the entity in Castlevania: Nocturne jury is still out, it could be a ker but it could also be some other entity fucking around (and possibly finding out if we get a third season). Maybe they made up a general trickster guy that conforms both to North American native pantheon and Christian demonology and probably many other mythologies/religions.

However, given Olrox' life experience it could be his bias speaking, since he's likely unfamiliar with indo-european religions and belief systems; he knows of his own deities and those of other native american populations because he was born and raised there, living there until he came to Europe to kill Julia Belmont; he knows of Christianity because of the colonisers and it being the dominating religion in Europe at the time (and likely in America too by then). We don't see him talk much about Sekhmet or Egyptian culture either despite it being central to the story, which could further confirm this idea.

Adding to that, in CN it was clearly stated that "a god shouldn't cross into another's domain" (paraphrasing), so it would be a little contradictory to have Old man coyote and Mephistopheles being the same deity, despite belonging to completely different beliefs and separated populations. Also, small parenthesis, Mephistopheles wasn't even in the bible nor any of the Christian holy texts, he only appeared later in the legend of Faust and was from then used in following works of fiction and art as an archetype. Which... adds onto the "Olrox isn't an all knowing vampire and actually is affected by his own biases" theory.

Unless of course the CN writers have decided to disregard infernal entities' background entirely and just use them as "big bad evil guys"... which would be disappointing, but not surprising.
