All of the rise ocs I’ve been seeing lately gave me a little of the turt oc fever so I revamped my Frida design a little.

Mainly just added a little more gold, removed some stuff, added some stuff- just little things but it was fun :) idk whether or not Frida dear actually counts as an oc bc she is technically in the show… but whatever hahaha

The secret art project I’m working on for her is getting closer to being finished and I’m so exciteddddd

So… Estranged AU

(aka rottmnt lost sisters au) I’ve still been “doing research” while dancing on the fine line before diving too deep into IDW and losing my focus. Mainly all my “research” is about done and now I’m plotting the storyline and fixing up the synopsis. But I’m going to solidify this solely for myself that Jennika is a Painted Turtle and Venus is an Eastern Musk Turtle. (I keep looking up different turtles and wanting to buy one…)

Anyways, here’s what I have planned about their appearances and fun facts about their respective turtle species! +a little bonus scene/sneak peek (bit of a long post hehe)

Jennika has two pairs of yellow stripes outlined in black where the tips start on the outer corners of her eyes and temples, then trails down to her collar bones and lead into her plastron. She has several small, yellow stripes on her upper arms similar to Leo’s stripes but thinner and about two more, but none on her thighs. Her skin is a similar tint of green like Leo’s as Painted Turtles and Red-Eared Sliders are actually a little similar in appearance, but a little lighter. Her carapace is a plain, dark green color but her plastron is a dark orange with a small black, misshapen blob in the center (like an ink blob). Her build is very similar to Leo’s and Donnie’s given her height and limb length but she is less on the lean side and is slightly more muscular.

Painted turtles are considered one of the most beautiful turtles because of their vibrant colors and appearance. They also have a fascination with pretty things, and are generally a calm species that love to bask in the sun. (All of which are facts I have taken into account when plotting the synopsis of this au hehe.)

Venus has a pair of thin, crescent-shaped yellow stripes that begin above the outer-corners of her eyebrow bones and follow the upward curve of her skull to end before the occipital bone (back of the skull). She has another pair of thin, yellow stripes that follow the curve of her neck, but aren’t as easily visible as Jennika’s stripes. Her skin tone is a darker green tint than Donnie’s and she has raised scutes/spikes similar to Raph’s spiked shell but less raised. She doesn’t have much of a colorful appearance due to her turtle species so she’s similar to Raph, but is incredibly smaller in size. She is a very stout and short, beating Mikey to the punch as the smallest, and is very angular in comparison to Mikey’s round and circular design.

Eastern Musk Turtles are an aggressive species and aren’t afraid to bite if the time comes to it. They are rarely found on land and are the smallest of freshwater species, which explains their aggressive nature. They hate to be held and release a heavy, musky scent when threatened. They have a very dark appearance that almost makes them look black in color (some of which actually are black or dark brown) which pairs with their nocturnal nature. (These facts were also taken into consideration in the synopsis of this au’s story hehe.)

I’m still debating Venus’s age but I know for sure I want Jennika to be a year older than Raph. So far, Venus is under debate of being Jennika’s “twin”, Leo’s and Donnie’s “triplet”, or being the youngest by being a few months or a year younger than Mikey. I really do like the idea of Mikey being a big brother for once and Venus being a little sister instead of the eldest as I’ve seen before. Idk still thinking it over

But here’s a flashback scene I have between Jennika and Venus as kids + extra:

Venus sits still, her feet idly kicking as she reads her comic happily.

Jennika places her hand over the top of Venus’s head to keep her younger sister still. “Vee, I can’t tie your mask if you keep moving around,” she scolds with a soft chuckle under her breath.

Venus stops kicking her feet as she fights a smile that grows on her face. “What’s taking so long? It’s just a simple bow,” Venus says in a whiny, but joking, tone.

Jennika shakes her head as she responds softly, “I’m not tying a bow this time.”

Venus almost turns quickly, but Jennika catches her younger sister’s shoulders to keep the musk turtle still just in time. “I’ll show you when I’m done—just sit still. I’m almost done,” Jennika scolds lightly.

Venus reluctantly stops moving, her fingers now twiddling with the corners of her comic. The comic now sits forgotten in her lap as she turns her focus to thinking of all possible ways Jennika ties her mask. She thinks of different kinds of knots, bows, braids—anything.

A small puff of amusement escapes Jennika’s mouth as she says, “You can breathe, Vee.”

Venus rolls her eyes as she retorts, “But you said to sit still.”

Jennika flicks Venus on the back of the head then raises a mirror up into Venus’s eyeline. She lays out the tails of the musk turtle’s mask onto her sister’s left shoulder, revealing the teal mask tails’ long braid. “Do you like it?”

Venus’s eyes widen with excitement, her jaw dropping in awe as she stares at the braid. She turns in her chair to face her sister, “I love it! It’s so pretty!”

Venus jumps to her feet, standing tall on her chair, and hands on her hips. “I’m just like—.”

“You.”

Jennika pivots on her heel slowly, her hands crossed behind her back.

Across the room stands one of Big Mama’s former clients with a gun raised and pointed in Jennika’s direction. A cowardly lion yokai with his tail between his legs stares her down with a forced glare. His stance remains vigilant but his hands tremble.

He doesn’t have the guts to pull the trigger.

Jennika takes a step forward, but stops when the former client raises the gun to align with her head.

“You’re her lackey, aren’t you? Her shadow,” the lion yokai’s voice trembles.

Jennika doesn’t respond. She’s not supposed to speak. She is only trained to act.

And act, she will.

I think it’s kind of obvious by now Jennika is Big Mama’s assistant in this AU.

But who is Venus to Big Mama?

Various pieces of information from the Rise Q&A back in February

It was revealed that there are other Hidden Cities other than the one seen in Rise & there had been plans for the Turtles to visit the Hidden City beneath Tokyo.

2. Splinter was able to use Leo's mystic odachi so easily due to the fact that Splinter had spent a lot of time in the Hidden City & because of this Splinter has a great deal of mystic knowledge, with Splinter also having developed his mystic abilities but he has stopped using those abilities until the events of the series.

3. More information was given about the missing Turtle Siblings & it was stated the Frida, Big Mama's Assistant would have most likely joined her brothers during the future timeline, it was also stated that the other missing Turtle Sibling would have possibly been named Camille after Camille Claudel.

4. When asked on how a Dungeons & Dragons episode would go it was stated that April would be the DM, Raph would be a fighter class, Mikey would be an illusionist, Leo would be an assassin or thief & Donnie would insist on being a scientist since he's sure that there was 'at least one sensible person back then'.

5. The Rise version of Renet could have possibly been used to explore different timelines that might have happened if certain events in the movie had happened differently.

6. After the events of the movie Casey is traveling around the world fighting remnants of the Krang & the Foot Clan.

7. When asked about the Turtle's relationship with Draxum it was stated that in contrast to Mikey who accepted Draxum the most easily, Leo is the most skeptical however it was also stated that Leo would have eventually 'gotten over' his grudge towards Draxum as there were multiple scrapped episodes planned where Leo & Draxum would have been forced to work together.

8. There were plans for the Turtles to eventually go to the Krang's original dimension meaning that it would have been likely for the Turtles to encounter the traditional dimension X/Z stuff such as the Neutrinos.

9. When asked about Casey Junior's relationship with the past/ present version of Leo it was stated that despite it being slightly different due to them being around the same age now Casey Junior can't help but still view Leo as a father figure.

10. It was stated that Splinter has never celebrated the Turtle's Birthdays in the past due to it being to closely related to his negative feelings towards his own mutation however it was also stated that after Splinter's development in the series he would start celebrating the Turtle's Birthday with them.

11. The reason that the Future Version of Leonardo was the one who raised Casey Junior was stated that it was due to the fact that the Future Version of Leonardo had a special affinity for Casey Junior & also felt particularly responsible for Casey Junior after his mother was gone.

12. When asked what the Rise version of Miyamoto Usagi would have been like it was revealed that a possible plan for Usagi was that his home dimension would have been overrun by the Krang causing Usagi to travel to the Turtles dimension for help due to them being the only ones who have ever defeated the Krang.

13. When discussing crossovers between TMNT iterations it was stated that a crossover between Rise & the 1987 cartoon or the 2003 cartoon would have been a possibility due to them also being 2D animated series.

14. April & Sunita were planned to have more 'girls night' episodes together.

It was also stated that Casey would have possibly have developed a dynamic with both April & Sunita so there is also a possibility that Casey would have been included in the 'girls night' episodes with April & Sunita as well.

This is a seperated au that focuses on Leo and how he grows as he learns what "home" is

A bit of background if yall want it:

When Splinter drops Leo in the explosion, all he sees is the turtle disappear into smoke as the lab is actively collapsing. He assumed Leo died and left to make sure none of his other turtles got killed.

Draxum picked up Leo and look care of his wounds. Leo has scrapes on both sides of his shell from being stuck in the ground, along with a scar on his right arm. Draxum tried raising Leo for a few years on his own before realising it would benefit both of them if he had help, so he turned to Big Mama.

Bug Mama and her assisstant, Galileo, help raise Leo for years. Gali teaches Leo how to speak, though he still chirps quite often, especially when sad or startled.

A bit of Gali lore: Big Mama had orignally named her Leo when Draxum gave Gali to BM. Gali didn't like having that as her name, so Big Mama helped her find a new one and they settled on Galileo.

Splinter takes the boys to tour the hidden city so they're not caught off guard by mystic stuff and yokai like he was. That's when Mikey spots Leo on TV and Splinter recognizes the son he thought he lost immediatly :)

About the sword comment: I'll reveal more in the comic itself, but Leo and Draxum made a deal that if Leo could prove his strength by winning the Battle Nexus championship 5 times, he'd train Leo with the mystic sword.

How the Battle Nexus works in this au: there are always battles going on, but once during each season, a championship/tournament is held to name a champion.

This is technically Leo's 7th tournament, but 5th victory

Splinter & Mikey - When the boys were still very small, Splinter used to take them with him on his excursions out of the sewers (either to get supplies or to search for the two missing turtles). During one of these trips, Mikey got separated from his dad and brother - they eventually found him, mostly unharmed, but the traumatic experience left a lasting mark on Splinter and he has worried about his youngest son ever since.

Leo & Raph - Leo and Raph are the first of the estranged brothers to meet, face-to-face. Raph finds Leo snooping around Draxum's lab and attacks him. Leo manages to escape, with his newly acquired portal sword, but the lab is destroyed in the clash. The two proceed to fight each other on multiple occasions after this, forming a sort of battlefield rivalry.

Donnie & Mikey - By complete and total coincidence, Donnie ends up saving Mikey's life after Draxum drops him off the roof of a building. Mikey takes this as evidence that Donnie is a good person and decides to trust him (despite Leo's protests). Realizing this, Donnie uses Mikey's "misplaced" trust in him as a ticket into the Hamato residence so that he can hide out there until he's apprehended the oozesquitos.

Raph & BM's Assistant - Although Big Mama and Draxum don't work together often, their business does tend to intersect on occasion. Because of this, Raph has had the odd encounter with Big Mama's masked companion. They've never spoken, though (not that BMA would speak even if they had gotten the chance).

Donnie & Raph - They're aware of each other's existence, thanks to their parents' occasional dealings, but haven't actually seen or spoken with each other. Big Mama largely limits Donnie's interaction with anyone outside of herself and hotel staff, and she's especially reluctant to let him meet other mutants (once she learns of their existence) or Draxum. This hasn't stopped him from listening in on some of her business chats via his surveillance tech and finding things out that way, though. Raph only knows Donnie as Big Mama's mechanic and the one responsible for her criminal empire's recent upgrade in technological advancements.

Splinter & Leo - Because of the incident that occurred when they were younger, Splinter has always had a soft spot for Mikey. Leo doesn't exactly resent this fact, but he does often feel like he gets short-changed on all accounts - when Splinter isn't around, Leo is responsible for keeping them both safe and out of trouble. When Splinter IS around, a majority of his limited attention generally gets directed towards Mikey. Thanks to this, Leo is left feeling both a little attention-starved and desperate for some independence. He's too proud to admit to his dad that he feels unseen, though, so he instead opts for causing a little mischief to get the desired attention.

Raph & Mikey - After learning that Raph is not only a mutant, like himself and Leo, but that they were created by the same person - Mikey becomes determined to befriend him and change his mind about humanity. He considers Raph part of the family - even before finding out that Lou Jitsu is their real father, thus making him their real brother. Raph doesn't quite share the sentiment, though - as far as he's concerned, Mikey's the one who's on the wrong side of the fight and no amount of niceness is going to convince him otherwise. (It does, however, make it a lot harder to hate him...)

Donnie & BM's Assistant - These two have a history that goes back several years and has soured with time...on Donnie's end, at least. He used to be close to BMA, considered them a friend for a little while, then something happened to change his opinion of them and caused him to see them as a rival. But what about BMA? What effect, if any, did the loss of Donnie's trust and friendship have on them? As with all things surrounding this character, it's a mystery...

Various pages of scripts from scrapped Rise episodes have recently been shown giving a few pieces of new information about the Rise characters, various pieces of information about season 3 were also revealed as well.

According to a page from the script of the scrapped episode 'Toddler Mutant Ninja Turtles', Donnie was the one who gave Leo his driving test.

2. The script for the 'Toddler Mutant Ninja Turtles' also shows that Donnie sometimes calls Mikey "tadpole" when referring to how Mikey is the youngest of the Turtles.

3. It is revealed in the script for the scrapped episode 'T-Hex' that Splinter has gotten Mikey multiple electronic pets over the years however Mikey seems to have always quickly grown board of them leaving Splinter to be the one to take care of them.

4. In the script for the scrapped episode 'Dog Dale Afternoon' Donnie reveals that he goes to April's High School & that he enrolled himself in the medical magnet program, according to Donnie the class is "learning a lot from him".

5. When asked about the dynamics between Big Mama's Assistant, Frida & the Turtles it was stated that Big Mama's Assistant might have been similar to Karai from the 2012 cartoon.

6. Kendra would have appeared in season 3 & continued as an ongoing rival for Donnie.

7. When asked about episodes focusing on villains it was stated that Big Mama would have been given more focus.

With Big Mama having been planned to have more focus in season 3 it is also possible that Big Mama could have possibly been on the the seasons primary antagonists for the Turtles.
