26.07.2024
.
I am once again having a slow day with studying. I am a little stressed about some other things going on outside of uni and I’m trying not to burn myself out. I feel exactly like the cat in the 2nd photo lol.
Currently I’m doing my module 2 workbook and just checking my answers before I make a list of what I need to revise and then start on module 3.
I am planning on making a post about study tips I have / use if anyone is interested in that

How and why I fell in love with Language Learning
Hi everyone! I'm Simona and I'm an aspiring polyglot from Italy.
I've been studying foreign languages since elementary school, when I started learning English, and as I grew up, I realized that foreign languages was something that I absolutely loved and wanted to keep in my life, especially because I've also been wanting to travel and explore the world since I was in middle school.
Once I started university (majoring in Modern Languages, of course!), I started my first attempts of self-studying Korean in my free time. During the pandemic, however, my motivation and focused dropped significantly and I shelved any self-studying project.
That was until 2023, when I re-installed Duolingo again and started learning Portuguese.
Now that I've graduated university and started my 9-to-5 job, I am striving to learn Portuguese, Turkish, Slovene and Korean, as part of my goal to be able to speak 10 languages by the time I turn 30.
I'm turning 26 this year, so I do not have many years left, but my education surely helped me immensely, as I have managed to become fluent in English, French and German through school and university.
In addition to this goal, I'm trying to be as present as I can be while learning, which translates to integrating language learning apps with written practice, specific media and grammar resources.
With this blog, I hope to find some other polyglots to share and comment ideas with, as well as a further tool to stay accountable in my language learning journey.
Well, I think I've yapped enough, now it's your turn: how did your language learning journey start? What are your learning goals?

this fortnight in megumi.fm ▸ bye bye march👋

ft. unchecked ambition to recreate of the hardest Kpop dances (only in vain), lots of code debugging, and using Yeolpumta the wrong way
💻 Internship // progress tracker
-> detecting pockets in protein structures using 3diff pipelines -> finding consensus pockets using outputs of pipelines -> pocket alignment of protein models by structural alignment with a set of known binding site structures -> read base paper -> weekly presentations [2/2] besides these tasks I've been trying to modify all my code files such that they can run directly from the system terminal (i hate edge cases and this entire process has taken years off my life) so that I can upload it on github
🎓 Uni Stuff
-> charted out a timeline for master's applications deadlines and related work
👟 Kpop dances!!
completed! 🔥bye bye ankles ⇒ I'd started this way before I messed up my ankle and then I abandoned it but we are so back... I picked it up last week and finally! it is done. 💪 bts' magnum opus ⇒ the main challenge is ensuring to hit every beat at the right speed and my rendition is still far from refined but hey. atleast my moves have developed some fluidity currently <3 🧢 left, right and just vibes ⇒ really needed a breather after the first two dances and now I'm here xD although the main reason I picked this dance was bc I loved the part switch version and all the references // ✅chorus + prechorus ⚡ crush...ing my motivation ⇒ so much for taking a breather. I've been obsessed with this song and I tried to start learning it and... four seconds- that's how much I've learnt in past three days. but the satisfaction when I got those four seconds? immeasurable. // ✅1st chorus pt1/3
💿 Other Things This week
📅 started my 18day habit challenge! by which I simply mean I'm using Yeolpumta as a daily tracker app rather than a study app and I'm loving it <3 I get excited seeing different colours marked on the daily calendar and as a consequence I've been more productive lately :D 🍊 been eating healthier! lots of fruit and water intake and I've also been learning to cook! 📖 The Myth of Sisyphus <3 I don't read a lot of non fiction but this piece is hella intruiging and I'm having a lot of fun 🍕 Lunch with the besties [x2] 🎰 Gaming Arcade shenanigans yet again 🎆 Fest at Uni! One of the best bollywood singers of all time showed up and he sang bangers from our childhood; we had a blast 🎧 lots and lots of kpop and for some reason I keep coming back to Advice by Taemin
[ 18th - 31st Mar; week 13+14/52 || and with that, 1/4th of this year is done. I'm pretty satisfied with how I how i spent the past two weeks, hopefully I'm able to stay consistent 🤞]

I was so sleepy yesterday, I forgot to update...
Monday | 03/24 |

Hello friends 🌱
Just made notes! ✨️
Finally started with my major paper! It’s split into two—P1 & P2 were for my first semester, and now it's P3 (Microbiology) and P4 (Cell biology).
I started with P3 today! Did some research, noted down key points, and took a few references... honestly, it was fun. 📖🖊️
Oh, and that thing you see in the middle? Yeah, that was my lunch—been craving ramyeon all day. 🍜😂
Also, I really want to interact more, learn new things, and make mutuals! But I’m a total rookie at all this, so my reach isn’t that great. If you guys have any tips or suggestions, I’d really appreciate it! 💕

My toxic study trait:
Whenever I don't do as well as I expected in an exam, I feel a strong urge to start everything all over again. I'm awfully aware of the fact that it's not an efficient way of studying as it only leads to burnout, loss of motivation and boredom since I'm going through the same materials way too many times.
It's a hard habit to break free from since I've been doing this for a long time now but I'm working on myself and pretty much "teaching" myself to study smart and not hard.
What do you think your toxic study trait is?

End of the semester 💫
I'm unhappy about my grades, feel like I could've done better :( , but it's definitely an improvement from last semester.
But I'm satisfied with what I learned and my classes were actually pretty cool. Can't wait for next semester starting in August!!!
Some things I'm looking forward to doing over summer break are:
Reading 5 books
Getting back into painting
Watch a movie daily
Essays / learn something daily
and getting back on track with healthy habits 。♡

Hey! I know I’ve not been very active last week but school makes me very busy T-T.
Yesterday, Monday, we went out to see how different fishing tools are used. It was really fun and interesting to experience this! These are some of the many photos I took, enjoy!
Assignment update: I completed all 30 drawings right on time 🥳 . We now have a full lab write up to do using a data set we’ll get soon. Wish me luck!

cooking mushrooms feels weird now that i know more about fungi. i have this being of decay (personsonable & miaislying, 2018) chopped up into thin slices on my nonstick frying pan, and im sauteéing this thing, i guess. these organisms for the several blessed years of childhood i understood to be plants (because they dont move and they're in the produce section of grocery stores, duh) before i was hit by the harsh realities of the classifications of life in middle school. as years progressed i learned that on the cellular level they're a lot more similar to animal cells than they are to plants, but the button mushrooms sizzling and shrinking away on my pan don't bleed, do they. i think it would be pretty fucking metal if they did (i am aware of the strawberries and cream fungus but apparently it "tastes so bitter as to be inedible" (Fearnley, 2016) and that makes me want to scream and cry). at some point our ancestors diverged and here we are today still interacting in ways that are coded into our very beings. i consume fungi and i suppose in the end they will consume me too. and it's not that i feel guilt for eating a fellow organism. i still eat meat, and i definitely eat plants, so i have no qualms about eating these non-animal-non-plant weirdos. and yeah, the fact that fungi are, in fact, a separate kingdom from both me and the garlic i sauteed it with shouldn't be so groundbreaking of revelations but i can't control my emotions to things, okay, that's not the point. but here in my parents' kitchen the contents of my pan have turned to a passionless shade of brown and i just think about how weird fungi are (and they're everywhere oh my god) and that i should probably finish reading that fungi book by sheldrake but it's time for me to dump these bastards on a bowl of rice and go yummy yum yum
