"Mr. Bubbles, Mr. Bubbles-"
A little boy's voice--the first little boy that Tim had discovered in the labyrinth city below Gotham--echoed through the cavernous halls. Tim crept over the rubble of a broken stalagmite that had fallen through the ceiling, destroying the white and gold decor and dripping water inside. The room up ahead was lit only from glowing green tubes of liquid that lined every wall of Amity, the ectoplasm that powered the entire city.
"Are you there? Are you there?"
He peeked out from behind a crumbled wall. On his own, the little boy was crouched over corpse, fresh enough that it's blood was still wet on the floor. The boy's giant needle, the go-to weapon of all the Little Sisters that Tim had seen so far, was jabbed into the corpse's stomach and, slowly, ectoplasm and blood filled the glass jar on the end.
"Bring me a lolli-"
There was no sign of a Big Daddy, but Tim knew there was one nearby. These children were never without their protectors after all.
"Bring me a toffee-"
And at this point, Tim had killed enough of them to know for certain that one was around.
His left arm, marked all over with the needle marks of constant Plasm and ecto-dejecto injections, tingled, like there were ants under his skin. Or more accurate, he mused grimly, electricity-
Don't Think About It.
"Teddy bear, teddy bear."
He kicked his bare feet excitedly as he finished harvesting ectoplasm. Screwing off the jar, the child lifted it up to his lips like a cup and drank the viscus liquid down in huge, chest-heaving gulps like his life depended on it. Unlike Little Sisters who wore gore-covered dresses, the Little Brother was dressed in a white medical gown, relatively clean considering his filthy surroundings. His arms and face were free from dirt or blood, and even his hair looked suspiciously washed and combed.
Tim tightened his grip on his gun.
The Little Brother sighed, wiping his mouth on his sleeve. Brushing off his skirt, he yanked the needle out of the corpse. Then, like he could sense him, the boy looked straight at Tim. He froze.
Blank eyes covered in a green flim stared at him... and the Little Brother smiled at him, his teeth stained brown from the muck. "Mr. Helper! There you are, I've been waiting soooo long! Big Sister thought you'd never catch up!"

@muzzlemouths and I are hard at work writing the first chapter but here’s a taste of the characters in our Bioshock AU.
I’m dropped the backgrounds under the cut because I’m super happy with how they turned out.

They told you that you were special. That you were born to do great things. And you know what? They were right.
I am thrilled to announce the Bioshock AU, Always a Lighthouse — a collaborative effort between myself and @robinette-green!
This story takes place within the war-torn world of Rapture, years after an uprising that left the city in shambles and saw you narrowly escaping with your life.
Now you're back... and on a warpath to make things right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Always a Lighthouse follows the story of a y/n who returns to Rapture after swearing to never step foot in that dreaded city again, for the sake of both their own conscience, and the lives of those they left behind.
Their family is dead. Their friends aren't any better off. The only solace they found before making their escape was that of Rapture's kindly caretakers; two individuals with unmatched patience and a natural talent for making friends with even the snottiest of children, they were more human than anyone...until they weren't.
Until the city took that from them.
And you? Well, in years past you wouldn't have batted an eye at the treatments, much too young to understand what was really going on in the world around you. Life was velvet carpets and silky, white curtains. Elegant banisters, rose petals, shining lights—
and dancing angels. Then one day, when their lights went out, all became clear. All at once you were forced to reckon with the damage that had been done.
Returning to this city means taking up the mantle of Splicer, if only to keep your true identity hidden - and finish the job you started so many years ago.
If that's what it takes, you'll gladly accept this blood on your hands.
Tumblr media
The fic for this au is already in the process of being written, and we hope to drop it on Ao3 in the near future. Until then, keep an eye out for updates and more information, as Robin and I are both ecstatic to show it off!
Now then... would you kindly hand me that wrench? 😏🐟🧬
-
[The brilliant art of the boys was done by @robinette-green while the y/n art was drawn by myself. If you have any questions about this AU, either of us would love to hear them!]

Drawn in the style of the bioshock plasmid cartoons
The au is basically before the fall when Jack was little he got out away from the scientists and ran into Delta and Eleanor becoming friends with Eleanor and Delta wound up bringing him around as if he were a little sister as well. When Delta dies Atlas/Fontain takes Jack back why Sophia takes Eleanor. Eventually Tennanbam gets in contact with Jack after the events of the first gaming convincing him to go back to rapture and him and Delta work towards getting Eleanore back
(Possibly mix some of the first and second game events together, this aus still being worked on)

Always a man, a city, and a lighthouse...
"Robin, Red Robin, stay back for a minute," Batman said as he dismissed everyone for patrol. "I have a new mission for you. Dozens of civilians have gone missing around the decommissioned Gotham City Lighthouse." A few clicks and the Batcomputer displayed a map of the Upper West Side, a highlight on the lighthouse. "I want you both to investigate the building. Everyone who's gone missing entered the lighthouse, but nothing has been found by the police. I suspect that the lighthouse is being used for gun smuggling, but we need more information.
"That's where you two come in."
Or, I've been reading too much of @virgamsysxvolumes 's Lucky Rush AU, and wanted a true Bioshock AU for dc x dp.
Underneath the city, in the vast and endless caverns beneith Gotham, lies the subterranean city of Amity. Amity was the pet project of the mad scientist couple, the Drs. Fenton, to investigate the effects of ectoplasm on humans, but with the help of their best friend, Vlad Masters, they transformed Amity into a Technocracy City filled with scientists, and completely lacking in morals.
Or at least, that's how it was ten years ago, before the creation of Plasm (the Adam replacement), a neon green goo that's basically meth that gives you superpowers. Everyone from the top scientists to the lower working class starting doping on Plasm, which gave people the ability to control fire, create hallucinogenic spores, summon bats, etc. Vlad, the mayor, was deposed in a cue let by the Fentons and the city descended into anarchy, with people from the surface getting lured down from the lighthouse so they can continue their experiments.
The Fentons are 100% not good people in this. Jack is in charge of all the technological advances in Amity, while Maddie has created human/ghost hybrids--the Little Sisters of the story--that can naturally harvest ectoplasm from dead bodies to use for experiments. Once everyone's hooked on Plasm, the Little Sisters are in danger from acting Splicers, so she creates Big Daddies to protect them.
Danny is the only Little Brother, and Jazz is the only Big Sister. Vlad turned them both into monsters as revenge against the Fentons for the cue, but the couple didn't really care, with Jack barely acknowledging he has children, and Maddie acting like they were never turned into monsters to begin with. Not sure about ages... Jazz is probably the same as her canon age, but if Danny is still 14, he looks 10, tiny and malnourished and pale.
Tim and Damian are trapped in Amity after an automatic system determines them as good test subjects. The AI filters out any cops, so that's why the police never found anything. The elavator brings them down into the city, showing a sweeping shot of neon in the darkness of the caves, and the boys figure out pretty quickly something is blocking their calls.
Tim gets super injured early on. I think, a Jack Fenton booby trap (that exclaims that it's a Jack Fenton Booby Trap moments before activating, which should be funny, but isn't when death lasers are being launched at him.). Damian gets captured, and that's when Tim is contacted by Vlad, who is our Atlas stand in for the game, only Tim immediately realizes that this man is sketchy af.
But unfortunately, in order to rescue Damian, Tim has to splice himself with Plasm. Maybe its for fire-wielding, or telekinesis but Tim can't get to wherever Damian is being held and, while torn, splices himself to save Damian.
Damian was kidnapped because his exposure to Lazirus Waters made a Big Daddy think he was a Little Sister, so it brought him back to the Casper Academy, which is where Little Sisters drop their harvests off in the care of William Lancer. Lancer looks after the girls because Maddie Fenton is too busy, but it's against his will despite him caring for them all. He's trapped in the building, can't leave or he dies. He's actually relieved to know that Vlad is still alive and trusts him, because to Lancer he was just a good mayor who was overthrown and the Fentons are the real bad guys, just look what they did to their kids!
This is where the batkids first learn about Danny and Jazz, although they don't meet them until a while after this. Danny actually ends up being the one leaving Plasm out for Tim every time he rescues a Little Sister. (Sidenote, they end up killing people while in Amity. While both do have death counts, the problem with Amity is that they have to use stronger and stronger levels of force to get people to go down, leading them to escalating and killing quite a few).
Lancer points them to communications to get their comms working again, and that area is run by Damon Grey.
At some point after comms are back on, the two learn that Red Hood actually came in after them after hours of no communication and has been captured by Maddie Fenton, who intends to turn him into a Big Daddy.
In late story, it's revealed that Jack Fenton was murdered before the cue even happened, and that the Jack Fenton they'd been communicating with the entire time was an AI assistant created by living Jack to keep his work going. The cue was actually retaliation from Maddie and the Jack AI for murdering Jack.
The story would eventually end with Tim, Damian, and Jason freeing all the Little Sisters along with Danny and Jazz.

I don't know if this has been done before but I am obsessing over a BioShock!HH AU. Think about it.
Vox and Alastor's rivalry totally mirror Ryan and Fontaine, even down to Fontaine disappearing for years only to appear later (Though Fontaine does it under an alias)
Vox and his obsession with being the future is totally a fit for Andrew Ryan. Both are driven by ambition and pushing boundaries. You can't tell me Vox wouldn't build a city on the bottom of the ocean to make his own empire away from conventional society.
Vox is so Ryan-coded. I mean look at the propaganda viewfinders and radio advertisements thoughout Rapture to promote the Ryan brand and condemn Fontaine.
Rapture is a perfect parallel to Hell. A place where those who reject society's rules and limitations can pursue anything, uninhibited by taboo or policies. Rapture has no rules, it is a place of sin and vice.
The overlords remind me of key figures in Rapture, like Cohen is undisputably the boss of the arts scene in Rapture. He has his own goons, his own territory, his own power. I definitely believe Cohen and other figures (district rulers?) like Suchong, Lamb and Steinman have a similar system in place. I can see them all having some sort of meetings about territory and sharing power.
The aesthetic. The 1920/30s art deco, full of power and opulence, weaved into a sort of technological utopia. Vox died in the 50s he lived through that period, it makes sense he would model Rapture after it. Not to mention it's under the ocean, I can totally see Vox having a large window in his office so he can see Vark out in the ocean.
I'm unsure of how the little sisters and big daddies fit into this. They gather ADAM, which is the biggest power force in the city. It would make sense that ADAM would be a replacement for souls, but I haven't figured out how how it would work, given souls are usually obtained though contracts.
If y'all have any ideas feel free to interact, I am dying to brainstorm this more.
