We popped into Ratlhogo bird hide as Rain, the cheetah, was seen in the area with her two cubs the day before. We didn't see her but got rewarded with one of the 'ghosts of the Pilanesberg' a cape buffalo. These guys are more difficult to find in the Pilanesberg than leopards! BRIEF: Research Centre/Bird Hide

The brief for this project was to design both a bird hide and a research centre in an island opposite Kew Gardens located in Brentford, West London, on the River Thames.

The bird hide was to be there to allow for the public to observe the birds in the opposite island which contained a bird sanctuary.

The research centre proposal is to be  dedicated to the study of fluid mechanics, therefore, its main space will be a laboratory. It will be in partnership with Imperial University, as it is a prestigious university, specialising in the sciences. There will be both a gallery and event space to show the evolution of fluid mechanic research over the years such as that by Da Vinci and Newton.

Everybody's heard of Kew Gardens but not many tourists bother with Wisley. Granted, it's not the easiest place to visit because there's only one bus and the train station is about fifty thousand miles away, but they've got a glasshouse, extensive gardens, and a Tudor-looking main house by the ornamental ponds. They've even got a little birdhide where you can sit and stare into the forest waiting for something to pop its head up. It's a bit more compact than Kew as well, so you've got more chance of seeing it all in one day.
