00Swann in The Guardian!
Today, in the list of things I didn't expect to see when scrolling The Guardian's front page, I give you...
There are so many things that I love about it:
they picked an illustration that is not a production still, meaning that the writer or the image provider had to deliberately put the film on and freeze it mid-kiss on the best-looking frame (the parted lips!! the purple hues!!) â glad to get validation that it's not just deranged people like me doing this <3
LĂŠa Seydoux is pictured twice in the article â you go girl, keep fighting the good sensual scene fight like the trooper that you are (too bad they had to take BITWC as the second example tho)
don't let our small fandom numbers fool you: 00swann is enough of a recognizible ship in the whole wild world that The Guardian would use them as a header for their sex scene article!!
With that said, shame on the interviewee who is throwing NTTD in the bucket of the films that only use women as sex objets. That may have been true of the James Bond films of decades past, or even for some characters of the CraigBond run like Monica Bellucci's or Gemma Arterton's (after all, you can't have Ms or Moneypennys all the time), but how can you hope to be taken seriously with that sort of comment when NTTD's entire plot is built around the female love interest?

Benedetta (2021)
8/10
NR
2021
2h 11m (131m)
French (France)
dir. Paul Verhoeven
In the late 17th century, with plague ravaging the land, Benedetta Carlini joins the convent in Pescia, Tuscany, as a novice. Capable from an early age of performing miracles, Benedettaâs impact on life in the community is immediate and momentous.
Virginie Efira, Charlotte Ramping
Hyper religious, written by opposite sex, period piece, based on a true story, closeted relationship, enemies to lovers, relevant sex scene, masturbation scene, white couple,
Passes Vito Russo Test
Matrix by Lauren Groff, if it slayed. Damnit if the French don't know how to write those lesbians. A super raunchy, bloody, guilt-ridden, Catholic, lesbian film backed by a beautiful original score that gives just the right level of unsettling and a pretty reasonable amount of sex scenes (for a French film written and directed by a man. We all know how that usually goes (BITWC shade)...) I fucking love this film and I'm eating up the visuals and all of the iconography throughout.
I would say⌠NC-17, gratuitous nudity/violence

Some questions after watching Blue is the Warmest Colour:
Why do First Loves always end?
How do you live with knowing you have hurt someone you love?
To understand a couple, is it important to know how their bodies intertwine? or
Why were the sex scenes so goddamn long?
Why does the director leave so many loose ends?
How do I see myself separate from the male gaze?
How do lesbians have sex that isnât part of the male fantasy, separate from the male gaze?
Would the film have been received in a different way if the director or actors were part of the community it seeks to represent?
Where do we draw the line between Pornography and Art?
Why butts?
If you want to read my full post about these questions and my attempt at answering them, check this out:Â https://rishikapandit.com/2021/05/04/10-questions-after-watching-blue-is-the-warmest-colour/

Also isnât Blue Is the Warmest color about an relationship between an adult or a minor? Or at least a significant age gap? Thatâs why I didnât read it. It seemed like it would be rife with unhealthy power dynamics.
