Their dolls are styled immaculately. The layering, the accessorizing, the quality of the faceups (stay mad about the diamonds anon) and the framing of the pictures. Excellent all around, and a nice person to interact with.

Their dolls are styled excellently, the dolls all have such personality that shines through with their posing and styling. Modestly taken photos, nothing fancy or over the top, but seeing their dolls always puts a smile on my face.

Just a quick post to announce that I’ve added a “legit” list to my blog. I thought it would be nice (and only fair) to spotlight some of the legit makers/artists who also use Etsy. Also, I hope this will help people who intend to buy legits to be confident that they are not buying a recast when they purchase from these shops.

Note that I’ve never purchased a BJD through Etsy (just accessories and clothing) so I am not recommending any of these artists over the others. Make sure to read reviews, as you would for any other shop.

As a side note, I want to make it clear that neither the recaster list nor the artist list are meant, in any way, to “stir up drama”. This is far more about buyer information than any recast debate, and I heavily discourage anyone from making problems for these shops.

Yes, a couple of the shops on my list do label their recasts as copies- but most do not. I simply feel that people should be properly informed of what they’re purchasing, especially with the touchy climate in the hobby. If you’re going to buy recasts, that’s your choice. If you’re going to buy legits, that’s also your choice.  I just want you to know the difference, because it’s hard to tell. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know he’s well known, but people don’t talk about him much. Pidgin and Bleu, a fashion-focused range of artist dolls made by JDav!dMckenney, taking aesthetic inspiration from the LGBTQ and drag communities as well as old Hollywood style. I like how he combined a fashion doll with BJD to make Pidgin, and I kinda want one.
