You can like ship. You can like a character. You can hate a ship. You can hate a character. But STOP sending HATE and DEATH THREATS to the actors that play said characters. They are NOT the CHARACTER. I repeat THEY ARE NOT THE CHARACTER.

To all the PORTWELL and RINA and RINI shippers STOP going at each other’s throats. SOME of you yes SOME of you are boarder line cyber bullying others the last time I saw that was when CLEXA and BELLARKE were going at it. BELLARKE was canon in the books and CLEXA was canon in the show. If YOU, yes YOU do not like that your SHIP ended or your character left the show guess what you can do. You can write fanfiction. I do it on another blog. But also ao3, fanfiction.net, here on tumblr, or you can create your own free website for it.

I didn’t really ship anyone in the show I enjoy seblos and redlyn (not sure how it’s spelled) but portwell grew on me in season 2 in season 1 it was rina but after half the season I didn’t care anymore. I HATE Ricky with a burning passion and not because of Joshua Bassett or anything but because Ricky reminds me of myself and I do have to say it was sort of annoying that he went after someone who was in a relationship (nini). But I don’t hate Joshua. I do however have a hatred for Olivia Rodrigo and to answer why, I literally don’t know I just do, so by default I ended up disliking nini but even she grew on me. Nini not Olivia. But I’m not sending her hate mail or death threats the same with Josh. I’m literally just now getting more into other projects Sofia is in and Matt and while I too hated EJ at first for all the bad things he did I didn’t send hate or death threats to Matt. When Gina confessed her attraction to Ricky during season 2 when we got the flashback I hated that but again I didn’t send hate mail or death threats to her. When Maddox got on my nerves during this season I didn’t send horrible stuff to Saylor or Julia or Meg. I don’t know how Adrian (jet) is doing on that front or Dara for that matter. You all have got to STOP, just like YOU don’t want people messing with your mental health and sending you stuff like that YOU guys have to STOP messing with there’s and each other’s. When Falcon and the winter soldier came out the actor who plays John walker got so much hate mail and death threats because of the character he played and ultimately it started to effect him. So words do hurt and they are powerful so please be mindful. Each one of our HSMTMTS actors are young and they go through the same things some of us go through. I know this was a lot to read but PLEASE learn to separate characters and actors. And PLEASE STOP putting each other down and bullying each other. I’m not saying you can’t be mad or hurt but if you are that upset about your character leaving or a ship not going quite your way write fanfiction on wattpad, ao3, fanfiction.net, or anything because you probably aren’t alone and there are a lot of people I’m sure who would love to read it or also write but they don’t know how or how to go about it. If you have any questions on where to go with your fanfiction feel free to dm me. If you want to vent about something even if it’s about a different show or just because you want to talk to a stranger feel free to dm me. I struggle with depression on a daily so I know what it’s like to just need to vent. If you want to get what I think on characters or on why I hate some characters or try to get me to like Olivia feel free to dm me. If you’re a senior in high school and you’re concerned about your future please dm me I’ve been there and my whole job last year was to help high schoolers figure it out. For Naoko, he had gone sensible and gifted her an entirely new set off clothing; Winter and summer-related. Along with a beautiful trunk to store such garments in.

For Blake, his heart, his wolf, his king...that had been a struggle. He knew the other wasn't big on items. He rarely had a need for such trivial things. So, for him, an experience was the only proper gift. A chance for the two of them to go ax throwing seemed fun!

For Maddox, also went practical. The last four months worth of notes in a bullet point style, the important things highlighted.

For Vivian, a set of new hoodies to hide in whenever he got too overworked, and teas that would soothe the throat.

For Whitney? A new heated blanket to snuggle in, and a basket of treats that would be easy on the stomach.

Naoko had...never really gotten gifts before...then again she’d never celebrated what she thought was some stupid holiday in the first place either so that likely had a part in it. Thus it took a while for her brain to process what she was looking at exactly but once she had a simple, “Huh.......” leaves her before just flopping onto her bed with a small yawn. She wasn’t ungrateful for the gift or anything, far from she just....didn’t know how to react to it.

“Ax throwing?” The wolf muses, tail lightly swaying behind him as ears fold in thought. “People actually do that just....for the hell of it?” He asks, though the amusement in his tone was clear. The wolf then wraps an arm around his deer and pulls him close to place a soft kiss upon his cheek. “Sure, why not?”

Leave it to his Dormleader to be so prepared and organized the hatter noted as he looked over the notes. Eventually he tucked them back into the folder and gently placed them into a drawer in his desk where other important papers were stored for likely future reference.

Pale silver-blue eyes look over the items, pupils slitting in cautious curiosity as he looked them over. What....were these and why were they here? Slowly he reached over and with some hesitance, poked at one of the boxes of tea with his claw-like nail. The moment it made contact he shuffled back quickly in case it retaliated only to be surprised when...it didn’t. Turns out they were exactly why they looked like...though why they were here was still in question. A low rumbling growl from the jabberwocky as he poked a bit more at the hoodies and boxes of tea for a bit as he tried to work out just why they’d been left here.

Pastel red eyes widen and tail twitches upon seeing the gifts. It had been a long time since the rabbit had gotten any gifts....and it took no time for him to be bundled up in the warm blanket, sketchbook in his lap as he grabbed a few of the snacks to try before starting to doodle for a while.

CHAPTER TWELVE: a wench in the works

“Wow,” Maddox says, setting aside his glass—no coaster, he thinks with more irritation than Remus would get at that—“I can’t believe I’m finally meeting the famous Remus Parker! You know, I have been waiting for this all summer.”

There—just there—Roman catches it, on the all; the drawling, smirk-in-the-voice-if-not-in-the-face tone. The mocking one. The one Richard Davies would use so that Roman couldn’t report him to any teacher, because what, he was just saying hi, isn’t he allowed to say hi?

“You know, the way your father talked about you, I was expecting some teeny little boy,” Maddox continues, “but you are so grown-up.”

There it is again!

“I’ll be twelve soon,” Roman says stiffly, then commits his first in many intended acts of breaking etiquette rules. “How old are you?”

Papa chuckles as Maddox titters.

“Twenty-six.”

“Wow, only fifteen years older than me,” Roman says, then, cringing in his heart of hearts because he really wanted to get to know his Pa without obstacles in the way, but this is the way Remus might respond, spiteful and sharp, “how old are you again, Pa?”

“Oh boy, look at the time!” Papa says with an awkward laugh. “I’m gonna go inside, get some more chili, maybe some champagne to celebrate?”

“Celebrate what?” Roman says, turning to look at him hawkishly. 

“Your homecoming, of course,” Maddox says, and Roman turns back to look at him. Papa squeezes his shoulders, and then he’s off. 

And then Maddox’s cellphone is ringing. He snaps it open with a flick.

“Maddox Blake,” he says, in that same tone he’d used while introducing himself to Roman. He smiles with a scrunch of his nose he probably thinks is charming, holding up his finger as if to say one second.

As if I wanted to talk to you anyway! Roman turns, taking off his sunglasses and t-shirt, rolling his eyes at the world at large.

“Hello, Reverend Mosby… Mm-hm… Of course… No, I understand it’s for a local charity…?”

Roman sits at the edge of the pool, turning back to look at him with a curled lip.

“Oh yes, I am writing it all down,” Maddox says, inspecting his nails without a pen, pencil, or notepad in sight. “Okay. It sounds very worthwhile, but unfortunately I see that Mr. Parker will be out of the country on those days.”

Out of the country! Oh, if Roman didn’t already not like this man before! Not even a worthwhile fib, like Dad would come up with if someone proposed he do something he didn’t want to do at all! And lying to a charity! A priest! 

“...yes, absolutely, I’ll be sure to mention it to him… thank you… buh-bye.”

He shuts the phone with a snap, before sitting upright, scooting to look more engaged in conversation with Roman, the subpar con artist.

‘How was camp, Remy?” Maddox says, except Remus has never once gone by Remy ever. He’d occasionally be a Rem. “Was it just fabulous?”

“My dad’s not going out of the country,” Roman says, injecting suspicion in his tone, and Maddox smiles.

“Oh, no. I just had to tell a little white lie to get him out of something.”

It’s not even a good one, you saucy little tart, Roman fumes. He isn’t entirely sure what saucy little tart means; he just knows people say it to other people on the late-night detective programs that Grandfather watches sometimes. 

My Dad would have done something they couldn’t check without breaking the law, like an immovable dentist appointment, or jury duty. And he probably wouldn’t have even lied, because Papa would probably love to help a charity.

“You know,” Maddox says, “I have never heard a man talk about his son the way Patty talks about you.”

Remus had never once mentioned their father liking it when people called him Patty.

“You two are obviously incredibly close.”

“Well, you know, we’re closer than close,” Roman says, standing and taking two steps back from the pool, as per the Remus Parker Cannonball Protocol. “We’re all each other has.”

Roman runs one step, two, and tucks his body as tightly into a ball as it can go.

He can hear a shriek even through the pleasantly cool water, and Roman grins even as he surfaces.

“Oh, no!” He says, in as mocking distress as possible as Maddox scrambles for a towel, removing his hat. “Did I get you wet, Maddy?”

“Just a little, Remy,” Maddox says through gritted teeth, wiping himself dry.

You’re supposed to dab away liquid on that kind of fabric, you fool.

“Hey,” Maddox says, and oh wow, it really barely took anything for that tone to go from subtly catty to real malice. “Guess what. Your daddy took me riding the other day, and he let me ride your horse. I hope that’s okay with you.”

That might even work on Remus, who had shown some real indignance when it came to Sprout during their introductory sessions.

But Roman has never once met Sprout, and thus cares much more about attempting to break down this relationship before it can get any more momentum.

“Oh, sure,” Roman says airily, surfacing in an innertube. 

“Sprout’s used to strange men riding her—not that you’re strange, or anything,” he says, while using his tone to clearly imply of course you’re strange. “Actually, compared to the others, you’re relatively normal.”

“Others?” Maddox says tightly, then flicks a carefully coiffed blond curl out of his eyes. “What others?”

“Oh,” Roman says, lying on his back to look up at the sky, but really to watch him out of the corner of his eyes. “You want the 411?”

“What’s the 411?”

“The information,” Roman says, as if this is obvious slang and he did not just learn it three weeks ago. “The lowdown on other men. Can’t say I blame you; I’d want to know if I was number twenty-eight—oops! Twenty-nine in a man’s life.”

“I’m number twenty-nine?”

“Yep,” Roman says, popping the p just like Remus would. “Always the same, right? Horseback riding through the vineyards. Moonlight swims,” he says, taking those from Virgil, and, with a real moment of mental strain on remembering what Remus had told him about special occasions in the Parker house, “Romantic dinner with his special reserve label wine…”

“You seem very well-informed for a ten-year-old,” Maddox says, then, “Oops! I mean eleven.”

Roman shrugs. “Only so many ways to skin a cat.”

There’s the great clomping of booted footsteps.

“Here we are!” Papa calls. “Couple munchies, some glasses, and! I found a bottle of my extra special reserve label wine.”

Roman, grinning, gives Maddox a so there expression.

“So, did you fellas find something to talk about while I was gone?” Papa asks. Maddox looks down at Roman with an unpleasant expression and winds an arm tightly around Papa’s waist, like some kind of exceptionally well-groomed cephalopod.

Roman plugs his nose, diving down rather than witness any semblance of PDA.

Remus is very carefully drinking this absolutely gnarly tea—the early gray had been fine and all, a close relative of the highly superior sweet tea—but Remus has no idea what’s in this brew. 

He’s distracted by this when he hears the phone ring.

“I’ll get it,” Uncle Logan says, standing and folding down a corner of his newspaper.

Remus tries not to slump too obviously into his chair. Ugh. Even Remus, proud purveyor of all things gross, can’t quite stand up to the “charms” of British cooking.

“James residence… Roman?”

Remus startles, jolting up from his chair and dashing forward, before remembering himself and catching himself on the doorframe.

“Oh, hello—it sounds just like you on the phone… an Augustus Plotka for you.”

Roman.

“Of course,” Remus says in Roman’s smooth accent. “Oh, Augustus, how are you, darling?”

He briefly checks the snazzy watch he’d snatched from Roman’s dresser and does some mental math; it must be midnight back home.

“Erm—how’s it going over there?” Roman says, dodging the question. Remus twists some of his hair between his fingers, watching as Uncle Logan walks back to the table and the newspaper. 

“Oh, everything’s quite lovely here…” He’s rounding the table… “We’re expecting a bit of rain today—” the newspaper is back in front of his face— 

“I’ve had a wonderful time with Father and Uncle Logan and Grandfather,” Remus says, carefully opening a coat closet door and gathering the landline to his chest, “so nice to be back home from camp…”

He locks himself in the closet, reaching up to pull at the string to turn on the light there.

“Okay, I can talk now,” Remus says in a rush, using his voice, hunched over the phone. “OhmyGod, Roman, it’s awesome here. I cannot believe I’ve lived my entire life without knowing Dad! He’s so cool and fun and I love the stuff he designs and I got to eat fish and chips and I got him talking about when he and Pa met and—”

“Remus!” Roman hisses into the phone. “I’m so happy for you, truly I am, and I love it here with Papa, but we have a major situation going on over here!”

Remus blinks, gripping the phone tighter. “What situation?”

“Papa has a boyfriend.”

Remus audibly laughs before he claps a hand over his mouth. He lowers his voice.

“Are you nuts? Of course he doesn’t. I told you all about Virgil—”

“—no, not Virgil, this is someone entirely different, he wasn’t in your photographs. Virgil hates him, I can tell, his name is Maddox Blake and I guess he’s some kind of publicist from San Francisco—”

And so the whole sordid tale comes tumbling out of Roman, and by the time he’s finished Remus has been shaking his head hard for at least a minute straight.

“No. There’s no way. Pa wouldn’t—”

“Papa has,” Roman says. “Oh, Remus, he’s awful, but he hides all the awfulness around Pa, and…”

Remus’s heart sinks.

“And Pa sees the best in people. Even if they’re the worst.”

“Precisely what Virgil said,” Roman says. “Maddox already hates me, I can tell, but I just—I don’t know what to do, Remus, I met Papa barely a day ago, what do I do?!”

“Dammit,” Remus whispers. “Dammit, dammit, dammit. Okay. Um—here’s what you do.”

He scrambles for a moment. 

“You… keep being nasty to him! That’s a good start, that probably doesn’t tip you off that you’re, y’know, you. Um, avoid him if you can’t come up with anything nasty—storm off if you need to. Seriously, be, like, dramatic about it. I know you can be dramatic, what with the business of chucking my laundry at my face—”

“—that was one time—”

“—and you do whatever you can to show Pa that you really don’t like him. Okay? That’s gotta count for something.”

“What if he thinks we’re just throwing a tantrum for the sake of a tantrum?” Roman says.

“Then you’ll cross that bridge when you get to it,” Remus says. “Not that you will, I don’t think Pa’s big on invalidating however big people’s feelings get, he’s all about, like, proper ways to channel them. Lots of asking you to take deep breaths and talk it out. Seriously, if all else fails, knock something over and storm out.”

“Okay,” Roman says. “Okay, okay.”

They both sit in quiet.

“Roman?” Remus says.

“Yes?”

“Dad’s really cool.”

He can hear the smile in Roman’s voice. “He is, isn’t he.”

“He took me to the studio and I got to help with the photoshoot. That place is fancy, why didn’t you tell me it was fancy?”

“Oh, Remus, it’s a store for wedding gowns.”

“Ugh, whatever. Still could’ve said something.”

“Well, I’m glad at least one of us is having our time go off without a hitch,” Roman sighs. “If it goes poorly, do you think… oh, Remus, do you think I’ll have to tell Papa what’s really going on here?”

“That’s, like, DEFCON-1 strategy, don’t jump right to that. If it gets any worse, send me a distress signal or something,” Remus says. “Like—call. Or fax. Or something.”

“All right. I will.” Roman says. “Wait—did you say something about Dad talking about Papa?! He never talks about Papa!”

“He only did a little, and only because I pushed it—here, I can tell you everything,” Remus says, and so he and Roman have a little information-sharing session for as long as they can before—

A knock at the closet door. Remus jumps, clasping the phone.

“Erm,” he says, then, in his best Roman voice, “Just a moment!”

He turns back, and whispers into the phone. “Someone’s here.”

“I gathered that—go on, go,” Roman whispers, and so Remus hangs up and, with as much fake dignity as he can muster, he clambers out of the closet.

Uncle Logan is staring at him, eyebrows arched.

“Silly camp tradition,” Remus says airily. “When your dearest friend from camp calls you, you answer. Then, you check and see who it is, and if it’s them, then the tradition starts. You have to take you first phone call with your dearest friend from camp when you’re back home while… in a closet.”

“No symbolism about anything there, I’m sure,” Uncle Logan says blandly, and takes the landline, placing it back onto its table.
