Ruby Rose writes for fun , and her greatest fun is torturing Blake with the hardest hitting angst that Blake has ever read

It had all started with a bet. 

Blake took a deep breath as she stared at her scroll, the front page of Ruby’s latest story pulled up. When Ruby had come to her for advice on starting to write, she had almost expected stories akin to fairytales. Heroes saving princesses, happy endings, the world being saved… things she had expected from a girl so optimistic about making a change as a huntress.

Instead, the stories she was asked to read over were much darker than she expected. This one in particular was written from the point of view of a huntress turned grimm as she descended into madness, unable to differentiate friend from foe. And all she could do was stare at the first page as her fingers trembled, unable to let her scroll through the words. 

“Blake, everything okay?” Ruby asked as she sat down. “You’ve been staring at your scroll for a while now.” 

“Y-yeah, the story’s good,” Blake said, finally scrolling through and skimming over. She could feel her heart breaking as she read through, relating far more to the huntress than she had ever cared to admit with her time in the White Fang. “It… hurts to read.” 

“A… bad hurt or a good hurt?” 

“Emotionally hurts. Especially this part here where the huntress tears her lover apart.” 

“I can change the ending-” 

“No!” Blake closed out of the story and sat her scroll down. “I mean, you dont need to change the ending. I like it, I just… I dont think this one is for me.” 

Ruby nodded. “You dont have to read it then.” 

“A bet is a bet, you broke my heart with the first writing you did and I promised after that I’d read over everything else you’ve done. Besides, just because its not my thing doesnt mean I cant read this over for you.” 

“You’re sure?” Ruby asked. 

Blake nodded and smiled at Ruby. “The story hits close to home for me, but its still a good story. Give me a couple days and I’ll let you know if I think any wording needs to change and any grammar issues.” 

“Thanks Blake.” 

“Its what friends are for,” Blake said quietly as she watched Ruby walk towards her room, no doubt to work on her next project. She picked up her scroll again and pulled up the story once more to read over it. A tear rolled down her cheek as she continued to read it, already feeling herself placed into the story. 

She didnt know which she hated more: how much the story hurt or the fact that she seemed to want more.

Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Cat

The Myrkheim Forests was considered to be one of the most dangerous places in Remnant. It was home to many horrific creatures like the brutish orcs, the nimble wargs, the slimy taijitu and even the ravaging undead. Not even huntsmen or huntresses would dare venture into Myrkheim. Except one.

Ruby Rose was an unusual young woman. What many considered scary or odd, she found fascinating and fun. In her right hand, she was armed with her mother's trusty scythe, Crescent Rose and in her left hand was a basket of Valen sponge cake. If any monster dared to cross her path, she would slay it with ease. As she walked under the blackened trees, a gust of wind blew over a pile of leaves. Ruby stopped in her tracks and held up her scythe. She could hear small, harsh breathes touch the back of her neck. Ruby quickly turned around but saw nothing. She felt it again, and turned. Still nothing.

???: Ruby~ Ruby~

Ruby suddenly felt herself fall down onto the leaves.

Ruby: Ow, what the-!

A female, cat faunus was laying on top of her, smirking and stroking her cheek.

Ruby: *groans* Blake, you almost scared me!

Blake: *giggles* Sorry, babe. I just missed you is all.

Ruby: *blushes* I missed you too.

Ruby sat herself up and cupped Blake's cheek, drawing her in for a deep loving kiss.

Blake: Mmmmm~ *breaks kiss* Ooooh, is that blackcurrent I taste?

Ruby: *beams* Sure is. *opens basket* Valen sponge cake with blackcurrent jam!

Blake: *licks lips* Can't wait.

The two women took off their cloaks and laid them on the ground, cutting several slices of cake and feeding each other. What was supposed to be a treacherous place filled with dread and monsters had become Ruby and Blake's favourite spots for their dates. They would simply let the time go past them, not worrying about anything else. And if anyone dared to disturb them? Well, let's just say that there's a reason that the two of them have come to be known as The Shade Reapers.

Ladybug Week day 7: Library date

Blake took a quick breath as she walked into the library to meet Ruby for their date, still nervous. Spending time with Ruby outside of missions was already a rarity, and going on a date was something that she’d wanted to do with Ruby for a long time. So she wanted this to go right. 

Still, she put on a smile and made her way to the table that Ruby was at. “Sorry I’m late.” 

“Its fine,” Ruby said as she got up. “I havent been waiting long.” 

Blake blushed as she felt Ruby hug her, her heart pounding in her chest. She pulled away from her and tried to hide her blush. “I-I was thinking we could start by looking for books we think the other would like. Or we could… find something to read… together.” 

“Together sounds nice. What did you have in mind?” 

“Maybe a romance novel,” Blake more asked than said, her cheeks starting to turn red again with a blush. She then coughed and tried to compose herself. “O-or we could find an adventure book to read.” 

Ruby smiled a bit. “A romance novel sounds nice. Any in mind?” 

“I think I know one.” 

“Then lead the way.” 

Blake nodded and started to make her way to the all familiar romance section.  Though she had the perfect book in mind: A Trial by Love. She scanned the shelves for it, pulling it off once she found it. “Here we go, this one is perfect.” 

“What’s it about?” Ruby asked as she looked at the cover.

“Its actually a tragedy about two lovers who end up as bitter enemies, destined to fight each other until their kingdom collapses. I know its not really what you like-” 

“I’d be willing to read it with you.” Ruby gently put a hand on the book. “It sounds a lot like the stories I read.” 

“W-we… we should get back to our table then.” Blake couldnt help but blush and smile as she felt Ruby’s hand on the book, almost embarrassed about how she was feeling. It wasnt like she was a little girl anymore, so struggling to talk to Ruby and feeling her hand brush against hers shouldnt make her feel this way. 

And yet, being with Ruby brought out the young girl in her. Walking with Ruby made her heart pound in her chest, she struggled to find the right words to say, every touch brought her back to feeling like she did at Beacon… almost like she had been experiencing love for the first time again. 

Blake sat down at the table with Ruby and placed the book down. “So, how did you want to do this?” 

Ruby smiled and leaned in against Blake to open the book. “I think I’m fine like this.” 

Blake’s blush deepened as she felt Ruby against her. She nervously put an arm around Ruby, her hand rubbing against Ruby’s side as she started to read with her. It was nice, peaceful, a change of pace from the missions that Ozpin had been sending the two of them on. And she didnt want to let go of this feeling.
