RWBY: Grim Tales

When Jaune met the Gold Dragon

Jaune lay in the streets of Vale City, coughing and panting. Blood was flowing away from his wounds. He had been in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up getting caught in a turf war between the Fallen Angels and Demons. He didn't know if he imagined the hounds rising from the ground or if it was actually real. The one thing he did know was that he was dying unfulfilled.

Jaune: (Why? Why did it have to end like this? I never even got the chance to have a girlfriend. No one to hold hands with, see a movie with, play video games with, go out to restaurants with. Shit, this is pathetic. Why am I destined to die alone? If I were to go out, I'd rather it be by the side of Beacon's most beautiful girl; Yang Xiao Long.)

A drop of his blood fell to a card marked with a red circle. As if his prayers were answered, a glowing red light appeared from the ground and standing in front of him was Yang Xiao Long, her lucious golden hair flowing in the wind.

Jaune: Y...Yang?

Yang; Are you the one who summoned me?

From her back protruded two large draconic wings, the same colour as her hair.

Jaune: What...?

Yang: *smiles* You won't die here today. You will live for my sake.

Samus: *tapping her chin* I mean, the only one we have to worry about is the fox girl.

Winter: Due to her being practically an essence-consuming serial killer.

Velvet: With Neo, we can at least...predict her movements, in a sense. Ahri, well, take it from someone who consumes other life forms...she may be high-risk.

Erza: Plus, she seems too greedy for our tastes.

Ragna: Uh, don't I get a say in this?

Winter: We're looking out for your best interest.

There's still fairytales I would've liked to of seen in RWBY, but I don't think the writers could do them justice. Especially the heavy-hitters:

The Robber Bridegroom (actually the darkest Grimm tale. I think the Robber would be the biggest threat to all female characters.)

The Boy Who Set Forth To Learn Fear (would've been very cool to meet a character who felt no fear at all, making him the ideal Huntsman, but he still wanted to know what it was like.)

The Girl With Silver Hands (a sad story about a girl who was being pursued by the Devil, but he couldn't have her because her tears burned him. She had no hands, but when she met the king of her land, he wedded her and gave her Silver Hands.)

Godfather Death (the Grim Reaper becomes a godfather to a boy who grew up and went against his rules to not extend another mortal's life.)

The Witch from the Hansel and Gretel tale (another awesome villain idea that always tried to eat humans.)

The Fisherman and His Wife (a very interesting story of a fisherman that caught a magical fish that could grant wishes. All he wished for were things that could make his wife happy, but she became greedier and greedier until she asked to become God.)

These are pretty heavy stories, though, and to think RT could do them justice is asking a lot.

Gods' Kindergarden

I finally realized what this picture reminds me of. It is similar to those puzzle carpets kids use to play:

Which is hilarious because the whole point is that the Ever After was the Brothers' Kindergarden. A place where they could learn and grow. So, it just fits so much this scenery becomes later on the setting of a fairy tale for children, which is a classical childhood favourite, according to Blake.

All in all, it is as if the Brothers moved from the Ever After (childhood) to Remnant (adolescence > RWBY's intended target). Still, it is clear that by wanting to grow up and to experiment with new things, they forgot what lies at the heart of Creation: Love and Patience. They forgot the fairy tale heart of their previous story, hence they can't complete a satisfying work (aka they felt the need to destroy Salem and Oz's world). So, they clearly need to rediscover it :P

This seems like a fitting theme for a story like RWBY, which explores fairy tale and gives more mature rewritings without really forgetting the source matierials and the themes behind them. A more grim story with a fairy tale heart.

I'll never understand why people are so against having POC in fairytales.

Ya'll know that there are so many different iterations of these tales, right?

There's the brothers grim's stories.

There's Disney's animated stories.

There's a Chinese tale that's similiar to Cinderella about a women called Ye Xian.

There's an Italian Snow White.

A Rapunzel story from the Philippines.

Frozen itself is an adaptation of the Snow Queen.

RWBY has reimaginings of several fairytale characters, some are based off beings like Thor and Mulan and others new versions of the character like Cinderella.

There's the Lunar chronicles.

The absolute nightmare of a family tree that is Once Upon A Time.

The princesses in Shrek.

Descendants.

Ever. After. High.

For heavens sake I'm listening to a song called Cinderella Snapped (by Jax, the woman who made Victoria's secret it's soo good)

And after, Cinderella's dead (by Emeline)

And both are different to each other.

Much like the DC universe there is no one Canon these stories.

If you don't like that we're making appearances in "your stories" than just say your racist and move on.

a post you rebloged got me thinking that we haven't seen anything in the show regarding Ruby (and Yang's) grandmother. do you think that's intentional, and we'll get a big reveal that ties into ruby's red riding hood allusion, or do you think summer is playing the role of the (grand)mother for that particular allusion? or like the post said that it's salem who's filling that role?

Yep. Red Riding Hood's grandmother is kind of the one part of Ruby's LRRH allusion that we've yet to find a solid figure for. Ruby herself is both Little Red Riding Hood AND the Woodsman and the Grimm are the Big Bad Wolf, but we've yet to find a sold Grandmother figure.

We've had a few potential options in Maria or Summer, but Maria hasn't all that involved in the story beyond mentoring Ruby in Volume 6. And while there's been much talk of Grim!Summer, I have felt more and more like there's some issues there. To start with, Grimm!Summer as most of us seem to think it will happen could TOTALLY wind up being a red-herring. Plus it just feels a bit odd that it's Ruby's mother rather than her grandmother filling this roll.

Honestly, the more I've thought about it, Salem feels like a SUPER promising candidate for the Grandmother to Ruby's Little Red Riding Hood. If for nothing else than Little Red's Grandmother being a villain who is both commanding the Big Bad Wolf and has also been corrupted by it feels COMPLETELY in line with RWBY's twists on fairy tales. In the same way Cinder is a villainous take on Cinderella.

Zima Wolfe: RWBY oc

Zima Wolfe! Inspired by fairy tale characters The Big

Bad Wolf and The Huntsmen.

As a child Zima was isolated from others because of

her father Zeke Wolf. A notorious criminal who robs,

steals and murders for his own selfish needs. Zima

wanted the same respect others received and

believed by becoming a huntress she would gain that

same respect. Zima picked up on her fathers cunning

social skills, realizing she was really good at deceiving

others.

On the battlefield she comes up with wild ideas in

order to take down grim. She finds an odd joy in

taking down the biggest of Grim and receiving praise

from others. But her buttons will be pushed if you

bring up her daddy issues.

Weapon: Berserker

Berserker is a mix of an Axe, a Weed whacker, and an AA-12.

In Axe Whacker mode, Zima can traditionally swing it around as a double sided axe. The blades can spin around too for extra slicing.

The ammo barrels for the gun are hidden as the spinning contraptions for the blades.

And then theres spin-top (or as my boyfriend likes to call it) bayblade mode. The gun barrels are also spin tops. If an enemy is too close she can release the barrels to slice them up. And like a boomerang they can come back. Usually used after the ammo is taken up.

Semblance: Breath

Just like the Wolf Zima can huff and puff. Zima uses small amounts of her breath in battle to give her more endurance. She wins most battles by tiring out her opponent. But with bigger Grims she can use her breath to light a brighter fire.

Dp-Hey, I noticed RWBY is popular, could you explain why? I'm asking because I respect your opinion. Also, have you seen Doobus Goobus and Glove and Boots. They're both hilarious YouTube channels (you might want to see the older Glove and Boots videos, though).

RWBY is a pretty weird beast. It's equal parts web series, anime, and western cartoon. It's a grimdark setting populated by brightly colored people with superpowers and shape-shifting weapons. The entire thing is based on fairy tales. It came with built-in ships and only added more as the show went on, both canon and implied. Its (current) main pairing is between two women. It took a turn for the hella grim in the third season and kept plunging into darkness. It started as a passion project made by a handful of people and it's grown into a huge monster. I could go on, but there's definitely a lot of really neat things about it!

...also some problematic ones, particularly behind the scenes, from what I understand. Still I recommend giving it a shot!

The Hunt

Blake walked forward to the castle gates. Surrounding them were several skeletons, hissing and rattling their bones. She couldn't help but smirk. It had been a long time since she had some fun. Drawing Gambol Shroud, Blake leaped into action. The skeletons raised their bone weapons and tried to attack her, but Blake was too fast. She dodged each of their strikes with graceful speed, her jet-black hair flowing.

Blake: Hah! *slices two skeletons in half*

The skeletons stood their ground to continus their attacks on Huntress to little success. Blake was easily reducing these grunts into piles of worthless bones, not even bothering to shift Gambol Shroud into its gun form. With fhe last skeleton falling, the castle gates had finally opened. Blake walked inside the courtyard, still keeping a firm grip on her sword. Cold laughter could be heard all around her.

???: You seemed to have made quick work of my undead army, dear faunus. I must say that I'm impressed.

Blake: If that's what I call impressive, then I feel let down. Your army of rattling bones didn't put up much of a fight. Hell, Ruby could beat them. No gargoyles? No ghosts? Ghouls? Not even any giant bats?

???: *laughing* You think they were here to stop you? Oh no, they were merely a distraction. The one who is going to end yoir life tonight is me!

Purple smoke appeared in the center of the courtyard followed by tremors. The smoke melded into large, purple robes and standing before Blake was a large, hooded, skeletal figure with burning red eyes. Blake backed away slightly.

Blake: Lich.

Lich: Long time, no see my dear Blake. You're looking ravishing tonight.

Blake: How are you still alive? I destroyed your soul-container years ago!

Lich: Oh that? *laughs* A clever decoy that my dear sorcereress provided to lure you into a false sense of security. I used what little magic I had to create an illusion and used my time to grow stronger. Now that I've returned, let's continue our battle from lobg ago! *snaps fingers*

A circle of black mist surrounded them, staggering Blake slightly. The Lich wasn't messing around, he really had improved. The undead monstrosity lunged its large hands towards Blake in an attempt to crush her. Luckliy, she managed to dodge in time. She tried to parry his second blow, but got knocked to the ground almost immidiately.

Blake: *grunts*

Blake stood up, determined not to lose to the Lich. She parried several more of his punches, but she could not find the perfect opening to land a strike of her own and Gambol Shroud was beginning to chip away. It seemed like all hope was lost. Suddenly, she heard the sound of a wolf's howl and looked up. Above the rook was a blonde-coloured werewolf. He leaped down and clawed onto the Lich's back, making him scream in pain. The Lich shook himself wildly until he threw the beast off. In a weakened state, he reverted to his human form.

Blake: *sighs* Jaune, what took you so long?

Jaune: *stands up and chuckles nervously* Sorry I'm late, I had to get you something. *picks up spellbook* You left this back at my house.

Blake: Oh... *blushes* whoops.

Jaune: It's alright, sweetie. I hope you weren't having too muvh fun without me. *turns to the Lich* Who's this creep?

Blake: No one of consequence. So what's the play?

Jaune: I'll block his strikes and you attack with Gambol Shroud. That should weaken him a little. Know any spells that can take him down?

Blake: Holy Light, but it's weaker at nighttime. Still, it should causw him a bit of pain.

Jaune: That's what I like to hear! Okay, I'm going in!

Blake: Wait!

Jaune: Hm?

Blake: *kisses Jaune's cheek* Good luck, babe.

Jaune: *smiles and blushes* Alright, YAAAAAAH!!! *leaps into action*

Samus: I mean, it started as a typical four-gal brawl.

meet Lysander :D A RWBY oc that I made and I'm hoping to make a team with ^^ But for now here's the first member, I haven't drawn out their weapon yet but they were inspired by a greek myth instead of a fairy tale. They're inspired by the greek god thanatos, which is why they have that sort of grim reaper look to them.

They are calm, well maybe a little too calm—like the type to be calm when they literally have a sword through them. They tend to avoid confrontation or any sort of thing that will cause a problem to them. But if there’s a benefit to it then why not? They like to make deals, one’s that will offer insurance to them in the future.

In terms of making friends—They are cautious about it, they don’t wanna form bonds that’ll end up with the other one dying and leaving the other  behind. Their semblance is called shadow realm, which enables them to—in short shadow travel. But the way that their semblance works is that they can hop into a shadow which sends them to the shadow realm. Where, it's a realm where they can get out of through another shadow. But they have to be careful though, because the more time they spend in the shadow realm the more aura drains from them. This also applies when they take someone with them to the shadow realm, where the time is now doubled. I didn't get to draw their weapon in, but it's a sword that can fold into a scythe. Kind of like Qrow's.

I'll never understand why people are so against having POC in fairytales.

Ya'll know that there are so many different iterations of these tales, right?

There's the brothers grim's stories.

There's Disney's animated stories.

There's a Chinese tale that's similiar to Cinderella about a women called Ye Xian.

There's an Italian Snow White.

A Rapunzel story from the Philippines.

Frozen itself is an adaptation of the Snow Queen.

RWBY has reimaginings of several fairytale characters, some are based off beings like Thor and Mulan and others new versions of the character like Cinderella.

There's the Lunar chronicles.

The absolute nightmare of a family tree that is Once Upon A Time.

For heavens sake I'm listening to a song called Cinderella Snapped (by Jax, the woman who made Victoria's secret it's soo good)

And after, Cinderella's dead (by Emeline)

And both are different to each other.

Much like the DC universe there is no one Canon these stories.

If you don't like that we're making appearances in "your stories" than just say your racist and move on.
