scene from a wooden handrail in Singapore:
a psychid moth caterpillar trundles along in its mobile home stitched together from debris and silk. it’s stopped by a Hospitalitermes nasute-caste termite who pauses its patrol to investigate the strange fuzzy cone. after the soldier finds no threat, the little bagworm resumes its wandering

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
Cockroaches are often blamed for spreading disease, but in reality they're about just as clean as people-- perhaps even cleaner! Studies have shown that the immune system of cockroaches-- in particular, their central nervous system and gut microbiome-- are extremely effective at eradicating diseases like E. coli and MRSA. In fact, the antiamoebic molecules that cockroaches produce are one of the triggers that cause people to develop asthma and allergic reactions to them.

It's always bothered me that when people adapt Kafka's Metamorphosis they depict Gregor Samsa as a roach. Cockroaches do not undergo metamorphosis. They are born as nymphs which are just smaller wingless versions of the adult form.
Kafka writes that Gregor can only enjoy rotten food. Which also makes him not at all roach-like. Roaches strongly prefer fresh vegetables to rotten ones.
And, of course, he gets stuck on his back, not something roaches struggle with nearly as much as beetles.
That's why always imagined him as a beetle. Which implies that the man Gregor was a larvae for all his pre-bug life. I thought that was the whole point of the story... We're all grubs, but Gregor reached the next stage though sadly none of the grubs in his family could understand him.

Finally put the last of the Insecta Deck ruby edition in my online shop here.
All the tucks have minor flaws so I'm selling them at a discount. I hate sending out things that aren't perfect but y'know what? I'd hate it more if these decks sat around forever & no-one ever played with them, just cos of small dinks in't tuck boxes!
Insecta deck was a fully illustrated poker deck I made in 2018-2019, with a different order of insect representing each suit.
I made the art for each card face in colour pencil, & drew each insect individually (no copy-pasting of bugs, even on the high number cards.)
Here are the receipts for that. (Also why am I like this, this is why my eyeballs hate me lol!)

Here's the link to the original Kickstarter for this deck, for anyone who wants to know more about the project.
