I've been rewatching Bleach recently and I forgot how Aizen was the king of shithousery.
"She can stay in your arms. But the rest of you goes." HELLO???
"I hope you won't struggle for too long. It's difficult to step on ants without crushing them." SIR WHAT-
This man took a look at Ichigo and his badass Bankai and said "It doesn't matter if there's one piece of dust to brush off or two."
And don't let me get started on the stopping Ichigo's bankai and his whole ass theme song WITH A FINGER!
ICONIC.

you know I realize I might dislike the quincies purely because they have so little substance compared to the arrancar as antagonists, or the soul reapers during the ryoka invasion arc. like. what. three quincies get backstories? mostly they just seem unhinged and a little evil in some cases. that’s fun in its own right but if I’m gonna actively enjoy content about you I need more than that

So, Yhwach is the Soul King's son. That's an interesting twist, thematically...I'm almost tempted to construct some complicated theories about what this means for the eastern vs. western religious showdown that we've got going on here, but I think at this point the Bleach universe's own lore has swallowed the thematic inspirations.
What does Yhwach mean by "my father who has seen the future"? Does he have another father who hasn't seen the future? Is it notable that the father or the character we just established as being able to see the future can also see the future?

Out of curiosity, any thoughts on the anime Bleach?
I consumed a fairly good chunk of it when I was younger. It's since faded in my passions. I think Rolling Star by Yui is by far my favorite of the openings but a lot of them are very good.
I think the visuals are fairly stylish but it suffers the shonen problem- granted, I think a lot of this is in the format of how long running shonens are produced- of starting out with a bold exciting concept and then sort of petering out in weird directions the longer it goes on. In Bleach's case, I really loved the design and concept of the early hollows, but from the Soul Society arc onward, this entire fascinating afterlife concept boils down to Fashion Sword Boys Fightin' It Out.
Most of my residual fondness for it has me eyeing @gallusrostromegalus's An Elephant Is Warm And Mushy, because it seems to be taking a lot of the later series and injecting that sense of weird monsters and afterlife ramifications back into it.

wow this Gin twist was super unexpected
i don't fault a story this old to be formulaic when it's one of things that made the Formula plus i had gotten quite a few spoilers already what with this show being decades old buttttt
wtf that was a well-crafted betrayal
