the bfres importer has been finally god damn updated and is public!

Quick and easy importing of bfres models. Tested to work with splatoon 2, 3, and ACNH, which means it should work with basically any switch game which uses the format.

If you wanted a splatoon model or something in blender, you'd have to go to switch toolbox, export it is as DAE, convert it to an FBX, then import into blender, and then spend a long while messing with the materials.

This bypasses all of that! and you can just import it directly into blender. While I did have an earlier version, this is almost a complete rewrite which is much less buggy(still buggy) with many more features and it took so long to get to this point.

Please feel free to open up issues and pull requests (i'm so sorry yes my code is messy i know) or whatever. this took so long would love help and also just tell me if you use it!

Okay I've fuccin had it, I've tried to avoid this rabbit hole so I could focus on making animations, but I think it's about damn time.

I've started working on an actual Blender addon for mass-renaming bones, fixing materials and mesh normals for MGS models imported from Noesis.

I'm way deep in debt for this community and I wanna do right for everyone trying to have fun/learn with these models. Reverse engineering is too steep to climb for me right now, but Blender scripting is not beyond my reach so I'll try to help with that part.

I expect the Master Collection to bring about new breakthroughs in model ripping for these games so I don't think my timing is excellent with this announcement. But even if these tools become immediately deprecated, I'll have learned a bunch of new things and that's enough for me.

... I made a Blender addon.

I like using a mirrored skin modifier with a level 2 subdivision as the block out for my sculpting. If a character is simple enough, sometimes I can get by without retopologizing. Suffice to say, I find myself adding those three modifiers over and over and over. Below are two recent of examples of how I use them:

My addon (which is really just a simple script) adds a object consisting of a single vertex with mirror, skin, and subD modifiers already applied and toggles Xray mode. There's just one catch: I made it with help from ChatGTP.

I have very mixed feelings on AI; as a creator, it's infuriating that decades of work was stolen and used to replace its creators. As someone who works in tech, I know it's an invaluable tool and here to stay. I know very little about Python scripting--my coding is about as sophisticated as playing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on the piano--and ChatGPT 3.5 was able to get me an outline that was almost workable. What I asked was a very basic set of steps, and the model failed as soon as I tried to inject logic. Sometimes we don't notice when AIs do things like throw in some extra fingers or an errant limb, but code requires precision. ChatGPT only had a tenuous grasp on the intricacies of Blender's API, and I don't have the python experience to figure out where it was going wrong. If I wanted to complete my short laundry list of functionalities, I would need at least a beginner overview of Python (and a stack overflow account, lol). As it stands, ChatGPT made 60% of this.

So far I have only dabbled with whatever model of ChatGPT I could access for free. It was mostly useful to me as a digital rubber duck. This experience makes me both curious and trepidatious about the cutting edge models and whatever comes next. I also feel squicked out having used it for anything creative :/

Good day, and sorry for bothering you. I want to port models from Hogwarts Legacy to GMod for a personal project. However, when I tried to create the collision model using an extension, I received a "2-dimensional geometry" error in Crowbar. I asked a few people but didn't get good answers. Can you help me?

Are you using my Blender addon? What does your collision model look like? My addon has a Force Convex button that ensures there is no 2-dimensional geometry. But if for some reason you’re still getting that error, it might be because your collision model is too thin/small, as a whole or in some sections. Without your Blender file or a screenshot of what’s going on, I can’t really determine what the issue is.
