Customizing your blog tumblr can you help me?

When I try to put in an image for my background the preview looks fine,

The editor here looks fine,

But when I exit it doesn’t work.

I don’t know what im doing wrong or why this is happening but I need some help please. I’m fairly new to coding and website-making so a little insight would be wonderful. <:]

yesterday after leaving a bunch of queued posts, i swapped the title color to the background, with the accent buttons color to the title. i was getting bored of my gray background (#eaeaea lol), and i saw screenshots of the other palletes i tried (and left in old urls)... i'm likely changing the accent buttons again, the one i have right now is too pee colored lmao (#ffec8b).

the darkgoldenrod i'm using for the title is #eead0e, might change it too but gotta look well with the background / ex-title color: #120d01, that i think got from looking at the shades and monochromatic colors of another darkgoldenrod, idk which one anymore (months ago).

okay because I am insufferable and love sharing knowledge, I have actually decided to make a serious post on my thought process when I change my tumblr theme. tips and tricks, if you will.

SO. I'm not a fan of changing my desktop theme all the time because it's kind of time-consuming, so I personally tend to go for themes that'll sort of...go with anything?

overall, I know that I really like earthy tones. since we’re heading into autumn, I decided to go for warmer earth tones.

I have a pinterest board on which I plan out my intended vibe. my personal preference is to separate it into sections.

these are the colors I was leaning towards for this particular theme update. I made sure that all of them included hex codes so I could punch those in. I used the one on the far left the most.

once I had that, I could plan out everything else. I wanted this to look a little spooky, a little academic, and a little earthy. basically I wanted my blog to look the way that chai smells.

I like to have a row of three photos at the top of my pinned post. so starting with that and following the color pallet, I found these images:

pinterest is excellent to use for this because I get to see what looks cohesive together. I picked a handful of them & kinda futzed around with it until I got something that I liked. honestly, I’ll probably continue to switch them out for the next week or so. it takes me a while to settle on something.

same basic principle for profile picture planning; I just looked for warm-toned, earthy photos of various emotional support nerds & saved them here.

I’m getting into criminal minds, which is the single longest show I’ve ever decided to watch. so since I’ll be binge-watching that for quite a while, I decided to go with reid for my desktop pfp.

a lot of this process is just dependent on your color pallet and theme.

for instance, my sister is the polar opposite of me; she’s all about pastels and disney. however, if I were to customize a mobile theme based upon her aesthetic, I could do basically the same steps.

and voilá.

you can do the exact same thing for desktop using either a free template or by purchasing one. there are also tons of themes available here on tumblr and tons of blogs dedicated to collecting them.

I don’t know if this is helpful and I honestly don’t consider myself an expert on blog customization, but this is what I do when I feel like shaking up my blog’s theme.
