Bucky Raising Tony Rec

This is sort of a niche trope in the Marvel fandom, but I read one fic with Bucky raising Tony and immediately fell in love with the concept. I’ve only found four fics with this AU, two of which are by AvocadoLove (a favorite author of mine) and the other two are by Rebelmeg. Regardless of that I still thought that I’d make a rec list for this trope. If I find any more with this trope I’ll be sure to add them as well.

Summary: The Winter Soldier’s mission is nearly complete. Howard and Maria Stark are dead, leaving him to dispatch their four-year-old child. One quick twist of the neck is all it will take, but the Soldier finds he cannot do it. So instead of killing Tony Stark, the Winter Soldier takes him away to raise as his own.

My Comments: This was the first Bucky-Raises-Tony fic I read. This is an AU that I would have never thought of, and didn’t realize how much I needed it! I highly recommend this fic, it is just amazing. I love Bucky and Tony’s relationship, and the ending is just awesome. Highly recommend this fic! This fic is cross-posted on ff.net as well. And has also been translated into Russian, Korean, and Chinese. There’s also a podfic for it, and some fanart. Not to mention the fan made sequel. I will link it all down below.

My Comments: This is an AU of All the Leaves are Brown, written by the same author. I have to say I love this fic, and the relationship between Steve and Bucky is awesome. Not to mention Tony’s relationship with them is just adorable. I do believe it’s abandoned because it was last updated in 2016, which is a shame because it did leave off at a cliffhanger. But I would still recommend reading this, because it will leave you aching for more.

There isn’t supposed to be anyone else there, but the Asset is used to adapting in order to accomplish his mission… until he lays eyes on the baby in the backseat of the car. On the run with a baby in tow, the Asset’s conditioning breaks down, his humanity returns, and it’s hard to tell who saves whose life as the years go by and James raises Tony as his own son. 

My Comments: This is an amazing fic, that I just fell in love with immediately after reading it. I love Bucky and Tony’s relationship, and how all the other characters make an appearance as well. Highly recommend this one. There is an AU of this one done by the same author, that will get its own rec down below.

My Comments: This is an AU version of How To Save A Life, where Bucky instead raises both Tony and Bruce. And I have to say that I just fell in love with it. I love how Rebelmeg shows Bruce slowly coming out of his shell, and how he recovers from what he went through. And not to mention that Tony is just adorable. You don’t necessarily have to read How To Save a Life before this one, but I would still recommend it. I highly suggest giving this fic a read!!!

Hanzo and Jesse are off the rotation indefinitely. Lena gives Hanzo a phone number for a woman in London and tells him that she helped her and leaves it at that. After a few days of indecision, he calls, and then he and Jesse are looking at apartment listings. 

They spend months in London.

Hanzo gets a dog. She’s huge and has to be brushed daily and walked constantly. She’s dumb as bricks but has the patience of a saint. Jesse has to chase her down for some article of clothing every other morning. 

Hanzo never expected to be watching the man he loves chase a dog with a mouthful of socks around a couch, swearing in every language he knows, but here he is. He laughs at them until he’s crying. He tries to remind Jesse that there’s no way he wants those socks back, but he can’t get it out. 

In that moment, the warehouse feels far away. 

There are lots of moments like that now.

They leave London when a standing phone call with Hanzo’s doctor feels like enough. 

There’s a ranch in New Mexico, practically abandoned. They buy it, go there. Friends and family come through often, even when Jesse sets them on fixing fences and patching drywall and laying floor. It’s a simple kind of existence, but there’s something to ending your day with your surroundings a little better than they were.

The dog adores the space.

There are good days and bad days, but they’re all different and all precious.  They still keep their particular skills sharp and they stay wary, because all of that has become a fundamental part of their natures, but they find themselves content in this existence.

My Comments: God, do I love this fic!! This fic is basically Steve falling instead of Bucky, which I know there are a lot of, but I think that Avocado Love pulled it off the best. Mainly because it doesn’t just follow the movies, it sort of deviates a bit from them. The only movie it kind of follows is the first Avengers movie, then it sort of takes off on it’s own, which I found I really liked. This fic did end on a bit of a cliff hanger, which Avocado Love does a lot. I wish there was a sequel to it, but I doubt we’ll be getting one. This is cross-posted on ff.net, so I’ll link that down below.

Prisoner’s Dilemma

Summary: After taking the airplane down in the Arctic, Steve wakes to find himself imprisoned as a human test subject. With no idea where in the world he is, his only ally is a fast-talking inventor in the cell next door. Something’s off about Tony that Steve can’t put his finger on, and it’s obvious Tony doesn’t fully trust him either. But to escape they may not have a choice.

My Comments: This is a pretty amazing fic. The basic idea is what if Steve was recovered by Obadiah Stane instead of Shield. I love how Tony and Steve bond through what they are going through. I love the premise of this fic, and desperately wish there was a sequel, although I do think it left off at a good stopping point. I highly recommend this fic!!
