Boring Books for Bedtime does exactly what it says on the tin. It's a podcast that reads a section of a boring book to you for about an hour. The gal who does the reading has a very calm and soothing voice, and she reads with a steady and even timbre. From the 1872 Sears and Roebuck catelog to Walden and other works of philosophy, etiquette handbooks to the media terms and conditions we all just click through to use our latest software or smart device, manuals, how tos, etc. there is a boring book for everyone. Even my biggest chunk of insomnia is no match for 2 episodes or so of BBB. If your podcast app has a sleep timer that stops at the end of an episode, that's perfect. So, if you need a podcast that "has all the boredom your busy brain needs to quiet down, and let you get some sleep", then Boring Books for Bedtime is for you!

Ho comprato #ilclubdeifilosofichevolevanocambiareil mondo convinta che fosse un romanzo, invece è una pedante biografia. Questa cosa mi ha scocciato molto. Su Amazon, il libro è segnato come narrativa e dalla copertina e dalla trama sembrava proprio una versione romanzata della storia dei quattro scienziati, di romanzato in questo libro, però, non c'è proprio nulla! Perché fuorviare così tanto il lettore!? Perché, altrimenti, molto probabilmente nessuno leggerebbe questo mattone di libro (mattone non per la lunghezza ma la pesantezza del testo!). Il libro, comunque, parla di quattro uomini, quattro scienziati che operano in campi diversi ma non mancano mai di aiutare gli amici. Gli uomini in questione sono William Whewell e John Herschel, rispettivamente l'uomo di scienza e l'astronomo più famosi dell'epoca vittoriana, Richard Jones e Charles Babbage, colui che contribuì a sviluppare la scienza dell'economia politica e colui che inventò il primo computer. Ora, l'autrice non solo è prolissa sul conto di queste figure ma anche sul contesto storico! Diciamo che la parte meno noiosa del libro è l'introduzione! I didn’t make a post or video where I listed my most disappointing books from last year, but if I did this would be on it: Common Ground by Rob Cowan 🌿 This is a non-fiction book that had so much potential. It could have been really great but really it seemed like a mess, it was majority memoir which took away from an air of objectivity which some parts could have done well with, and then other sections are fictional stories told my... peculiar choice of characters I would say. I rolled my eyes a lot whilst reading this 🐇 @kamil_ebr - I had said I would review this book once I had done for you, and I’m sorry it’s so late but here it is!
