Post Christmas Post number 1 (stitch 443)

As I have done in the past, I decided to make something to go with the gift I was giving as part of my office’s Pollyanna/Secret Santa/gift exchange. I has some Yarnspirations Caron Cloud Cake in the color Warm Sky. It is a very soft polyester yarn in the colors of pink, orange, purple and blue. This yarn used a 4.5 mm (size 7) hook. Crochet beanie is underway! I couldn't find a pattern for the exact beanie construction I wanted with the ribbing technique I wanted so I'm writing my own lol I'll share it once I have the pattern (and the beanie) finished

So the first two memory bears are finished and delivered to their person and I am left bearless, having discovered the fun of the puzzle of putting together a bear from baby clothes and with no baby clothes to make a bear out of

What should I make next? I mean, my next crochet project is a beanie for an art trade (I am excited) but what should I sew next?

EASY-TO-MAKE HANGING BAG

**Materials You'll Need**

- Yarn: Bulky Cotton Yarn (About 150g) – Something sturdy works best.

- Hook: 6.5 mm (K-10.5) crochet hook.

- Scissors & Yarn Needle: For finishing touches and weaving in ends.

- Stitch Marker (Optional): Just in case you need help keeping track.

**Abbreviations (US Terms)**

- Ch: Chain

- Sl st: Slip stitch

- Sc: Single crochet

- Hdc: Half double crochet

- Dc: Double crochet

- St(s): Stitch(es)

- Inc: Increase (2 sc in the same stitch)

- Rep: Repeat

- Fpdc: Front Post Double Crochet

- Bpdc: Back Post Double Crochet

A Calico Critter scale stocking cap

is about 15 hdc wide on an E hook, if you wondered.

As pictured:

With scrap white yarn in weight 4, foundation hdc 15.

Ch 1, dc in each st across (15 st). Join end to beginning with two sl st. You can fasten off if you'd like, but you're going to need more white for the puff at the end; I just threaded it inside and picked it up again later.

Now you're going to work in the other side of the foundation row. Yo with red scrap yarn in the same weight, hdc around (15 st).

Hdc around for 14 st. For the last st, bphdc as a means to decrease.

Hdc around for 13 st. Bphdc on top of the last row's bphdc - see the lower picture for reference.

Continue in this pattern until it's too difficult to continue. I hit this point with about 5 hdc remaining.

Yo with white yarn again, dc around.

Bpdc around.

Dc2tog until you're out of stitches. Sl st, fasten off, and tightly pull yarn through the bottom so the puff looks a bit rounder.

Would also look pretty sweet as "scatter"; hence I'm making a lot more.

ok working crochet without turning your work physically but instead switching hands is supposed to be not necessarily easier but just like a benefit in some cases esp with stitches like fpdc where when you turn your work it becomes bpdc which is a bit harder to do so if you're working in the front alone it's all fpdc right so yeah i have discovered one downside stitch to crochet w/o turning it's the blo ribbed stitches you then have to alternate blo flo each row to get it to work out

Ok I can show what I'm doing here. When I use this pattern, I have tried a few ways to make the seam less obvious. Usually I bpdc around the chains and the stitch. And it ends up looking obvious. Like here:

That line down the middle is too obvious for my tastes.

So I had the idea to try using an invisible join. I usually only use it for hdc, but I think I found the key.

Ugh, I hate FPDC and I hate BPDC and I hate alternating them because I'm not sure what post I haven't hit yet.

Why is every stitch in this project the devil?

Did a row of alternating fpdc and bpdc for the legwarmers but it was majorly fucking with my hands and too bulky, sooo I guess I'm just going to do rows of blo sc worked horizontally for the ribbing at the top. And possibly the bottom, but I'll see when I get there. I might want to do a flared bottom instead since that looks pretty cool

Anyway I'm just using black yarn for the ribbing, so I'm looking forward to actually getting to the Neon Stripes yarn! I've used it for a few projects (top, hat, scarf), but it's been a while and it's one of my favorites

For future reference since I will need to make two of them: 12 sc, 48 rows, blo after row 1

Ah I was hoping for neat stripes but the color segments are too short. I'm getting like 8 inches' worth of dc sts per color, which is only enough to go about halfway around my lower leg

It is still stripey, though, and looks kind of cool, so I guess I'll see how it goes. Beats mindlessly churning out spirals at least (though a spiral quilt would be awesome)

So I can do sc and get a little over a full row. Or just increase the rows in the cuff/ribbing to 52 so it's an exact match (or as close as I can get), which shouldn't make much of a difference as far as the fit goes

Did a 52-row blo sc cuff, then slip-stitched it into a loop, turned it inside out to hide the seam, did 52 sc along the edge, and then started with the Neon Stripes yarn, working in a spiral

I usually avoid sc because it's tiny and I'm impatient, but it looks really nice and I like how dense it is!

I want it more tapered so I'm going to try decreasing by 1 sc in each round (1 sc2tog in first stitch) from round 25 onwards. Hopefully it won't affect the striping too much

Update: It definitely did, but I switched to black for the bottom cuff before it was really noticeable

Rounds with decreases: 12 -- 4 with Neon Stripes and then 8 with black

Done with the first legwarmer! It's like a leg bracelet. I love it. I am not looking forward to making the second one lol

Kind of wish I'd looked up how to keep the seam straight while crocheting in a spiral, and there is noticeable bunching where the decreases are. I probably could have avoided that by spreading them out in the round. Might go back and fix that later

I don't like that the bottom cuff looks so different from the top one/is not ribbed but I don't know if I want to bother changing it and I'm not really sure how I'd do it...beyond the dreaded fpsc/bpsc

I think I'll make a pair of flared ones next with a larger hook and/or larger stitches, like triple crochet. But I will try to finish this pair first

Can someone who is good at crocheting cables help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? I swear I'm following the patterns correctly (skip 3, tc/tall fpdc in the next three, then dc/tall fpdc in the skipped stitches) but my cables arent looking like a braid, they look more like parallel lines and I can't figure out why

Alright good news bad news; hat related!

I ACTUALLY have one round left, for the whole hat (counting earflaps, not counting pompom or flapbraids).

Bad news is that it's a Paragraph of instructions and acronyms, twice as long as any of the previous instructions
