Branch Registration in Azerbaijan
In our globalized world, expanding to new markets is one of the main targets for companies. Notably, there has been a marked increase in the presence of foreign companies in Azerbaijan in recent years — a trend we expect to persist. Foreign companies typically establish their presence by registering their branches in Azerbaijan and/or representative offices. Correspondingly, it is worth mentioning that the legislation of Azerbaijan grants the same rights to foreign companies for the registration of their branches and representative offices as it does to local companies.

A Comprehensive Guide on Foreign Branch Office Registration in India
Introduction:
Expanding businesses to new territories is an exciting venture, and India, with its rapidly growing economy, presents a multitude of opportunities for international companies. Setting up a branch office in India can be a strategic move to establish a physical presence, tap into a vast consumer market, and enhance business operations. However, entering a new market can be complex, especially when dealing with legal and regulatory procedures. In this article, we will provide a step-by-step guide on how to set up a branch office in India, focusing on foreign branch office registration.
Understanding the Concept of a Branch Office: A branch office is a legal entity established by a foreign company in India to undertake specific business activities on its behalf. Unlike a subsidiary, a branch office operates as an extension of the parent company and does not possess a separate legal identity. It can engage in activities such as marketing, promotion, research, and liaising with customers and suppliers.
Tumblr media
Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for establishing a branch office in India, the following conditions must be met:
a. The parent company must have a successful track record of at least one year. b. The parent company's net worth should exceed USD 100,000. c. The proposed branch office should engage in activities permitted under the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.
Required Information and Documents for Registration To initiate the registration process for a branch office in India, the following information and documents are required:
a) Application Form: The prescribed application form must be completed and submitted to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The form includes details such as the name and address of the foreign company, the proposed branch office's location in India, and the activities it intends to undertake.
b) Board Resolution: A board resolution from the foreign company's parent board of directors authorizing the establishment of a branch office in India is necessary.
c) Power of Attorney: A power of attorney must be granted to an individual resident in India who will act as an authorized representative for the branch office.
d) Financial Statements: The audited financial statements of the foreign company for the past five years should be submitted, demonstrating its profitability.
e) Banker's Report: A banker's report certifying the financial soundness and creditworthiness of the foreign company must be obtained from its banker.
f) Business Plan: A detailed business plan outlining the proposed activities, objectives, and expected revenue generation of the branch office should be prepared.
g) Undertaking: An undertaking stating that the branch office will comply with all applicable Indian laws, regulations, and guidelines is required.
h) Additional Documents: Additional documents such as the company's certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles of association, and a valid passport copy of the authorized representative are necessary.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Approval: Foreign branch office registration in India requires prior approval from the RBI. The application process involves submitting the necessary documents, such as a letter from the parent company, a Board Resolution, a statement of financial viability, and other supporting documents, as prescribed by the RBI.
Choosing the Right Location: Selecting the ideal location for your branch office is crucial for business success. Major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai offer a robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and access to markets. Factors to consider include proximity to target customers, availability of resources, and regulatory advantages.
Obtaining a Permanent Account Number (PAN): To conduct business operations in India, a foreign branch office must obtain a Permanent Account Number (PAN) from the Indian Income Tax Department. PAN is essential for various financial and tax-related transactions. The application requires the submission of relevant documents and completion of the necessary forms.
Registration with the Registrar of Companies (ROC): Foreign branch offices in India must register with the Registrar of Companies (ROC) within 30 days of establishment. The application should include documents such as a certified copy of the charter, memorandum, and articles of association of the parent company, along with other statutory forms.
Taxation and Compliance: Understanding the tax structure and compliance requirements is crucial to operating a branch office in India. The branch office is subject to corporate income tax and other applicable taxes based on its profits. Compliance obligations include filing annual financial statements, tax returns, and adhering to labor laws, such as employee provident fund contributions and the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Opening a Bank Account: Opening a bank account is a fundamental step in establishing a branch office in India. The parent company must provide the necessary documents, including the registration certificate from the ROC, the PAN card, and KYC (Know Your Customer) details. A local bank account facilitates smooth financial transactions and operations.
Hiring Employees: Recruiting and hiring employees for your branch office is crucial for building a competent workforce. Comply with India's labor laws, including employee contracts, statutory benefits, and tax deductions. Understanding the local labor market, employment regulations, and cultural nuances will help streamline the hiring process.
Operational Considerations: Once your branch office is established, focus on operational considerations such as office space, IT infrastructure, compliance with local regulations, and setting up a communication network. Tailor your business strategies to suit the Indian market, including localizing your products or services and engaging with customers effectively.
Conclusion:
Expanding your business by setting up a branch office in India can be a rewarding endeavor, enabling access to a vibrant market with significant growth potential. However, it is vital to navigate the legal and regulatory landscape carefully. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can ensure a smooth and successful foreign branch office registration process in India. Seek professional advice and guidance to understand the nuances of Indian business laws and maximize your chances of success.

California Opens Hemp Registrations
California Opens Hemp Registrations
By Griffen Thorne, Attorney @ Harris Bricken For years, California has been a very bad state for the hemp industry. That started to change last year with the passage of AB-45, a bill intended to regulate CBD manufacturing and sales. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued proposed AB-45 regulations just a few months ago. And now it looks like California is finally open for hemp…

Anon that wrote to me, quoting several parts of a post about MPC on another blog and asking my view on it.
Sorry to keep you waiting as you wrote to me last week already. I actually wrote the majority of this (very long) post already last Friday in answer to what you sent me but given the events this weekend and I wanted to check and tweak the post still a little before publishing, I held of until now.
I chose to not post all the quotes and the link you gave me. I don't read that blog, but I took a look at the post and I can conclude that for someone bragging about her legal background (a lot) and values the legal facts, it's quite odd how she makes a number of assumptions and guesses of which most if not all, are incorrect. So I will note and correct them below. Sit tight and pour yourself a cup of coffee, or rather keep the pot at hand, as this will be a lengthy and detailed answer to your question(s).
Before I do however; A disclaimer: This post is in no way intended to criticize MPC, the organization nor the people involved. I merely try to answer my Anon with the facts that can be searched out and are, or have been, in the public domain. I do acknowledge the positive effects people have encountered from the program and surely appreciate a good deal MPC has done for charity and the health of their members. Putting here and there some side notes to it, doesn't make my appreciation less. They're merely side notes, while most of this post is about putting things in a historical context and perspective in the most correct way possible.
First of all, may I remind you of a post I posted 2 years ago. You can scroll along the hateful Anons I answered (actually triggered me to write that post) and read where I based my personal skeptical view on both businesses, MPC and GCC upon. It also shows how much of this post was already researched by me years ago.
In that post you can already see how intertwined both companies are. MPC and GCC both share the same officers as you can see from the screenshots on that post. The certain blogger only posted the initial registration of MPC in Delaware, but the corporation branched out first to California and consequently to Nevada. Nevada being the last and active branch, where the Californian branch is inactive. The initial filing will (must) always stay active as the original filed home company, being branched out means, and I quote from the opencorporates website:
A branch company is an out-of-jurisdiction registration of a company (in the US it is often referred to as a 'Foreign Corporation')
This in simple words means, My Peak Challenge LLC Nevada is a branch of the Delaware registration currently falling under jurisdiction of Nevada (the active branch). The screenshot this blogger shows is therefore outdated, blogger notes there's only one officer listed but not named and tells her Anon, and I quote:
pay away from your wallet to find out it's very probably SRH: I am not doing it for you.
Too bad she didn't pay away herself, or didn't look any further. As said, the company snapshot is outdated, Nevada is the current branch as you can see in this snapshot, see the Annual list (25 January 2024).
Tumblr media
It also shows not ONE but TWO officers available. And I can tell you for sure without the need to log in or pay a fee that none of them is Sam R. Heughan, like this blogger claims. A 'very probably' assumption doesn't make a fact.
The Opencorporate Database made some changes to the website requiring to log in to access some data. Though this wasn't the case when I took a snapshot 2 years ago, clearly showing that not SRH is one of the officers of My Peak Challenge
Tumblr media
Note: Exactly the same ones that are the officers for GGC!
(side note: AN being a managing member and Jennifer Zischke being the agent assisting taxpayers and small businesses with taxes in Boulder City NV and the surrounding communities)
If you do a search on Linkedin (I heard this blogger likes to analyse people this way) you can also find out that some employees are employed by MPC as well as GGC over the years
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I can understand the sentiment the Anon showed, and I quote:
Your statement of knowing what he's doing with his MPC, is questionable, post corporate change of MPC. It's not just his alone. MPC has sketchy history, since Alex's involvement, and the rumors, look more as truths that a good portion of the administrative costs go to Alex pre-whisky, for a working, guaranteed salary before sales came in.
As shown the businesses are visibly intertwined and there is no transparency as I noted in my initial post 2 years ago. As an LLC they have no obligation to open up finances, though not proven it sadly gives room for rumors and skepticism.
Blogger also fails to research the true history about My Peak Challenge, which Anon refers to as the post corporate change of MPC. Blogger states (quote):
Like it or not, Norouzi's involvement in MPC is a reality since at least its creation.
Like it or not, this is pertinent incorrect, and can be proven as incorrect statement.
The history or My Peak Challenge
The first mention of My Peak Challenge dates from at least before 31 December 2014, as a collaboration between the Welsh brothers Andy and Gareth Shears of Bear Strength, clothing company, and Outlander actor Sam Heughan. This tweet shows already in September 2014 the partnership between them
Tumblr media
On 27 December 2014 this video is posted on YouTube
youtube
On 1st January 2015 an article in the Daily record is posted:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More Youtube videos were posted on 18 and 27 January 2015 by Everyday Athlete Gym, also mentioning My Peak Challenge
youtube
youtube
This clearly has been the first initiative for the My Peak Challenge project and program and there is no mentioning of AN, even more Sam didn't know AN by then. (as I will show later on her met AN only end 2015)
Also note the transparency here how much of the welcome pack will be donated. A clear figure we can rely on.
The initiative being repeated the next year in the same way and the same partners involved. You can find several articles online about it
In this article from 2 March 2016 we can read:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note that the website is British (co.uk) and not an org or a US based one.
There's also a first flag for MPC - via Bear Strength and MPC on Twitter and FB, the public group page.
Tumblr media
And there is a video posted on 28 January 2016 on FB
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note how still the same partners (Fight Camp and Bear Strength) are mentioned.
But here we can see a first involvement of AN, if you take a scroll on AN's IG, you will find this post from 14 February 2016
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Involved in the production and directing the video. The picture shows them on the same couche the video was recorded for MPC 2016.
As we know Sam met AN through an interview and photoshoot for the magazine The Box, published in the January/February issue.
Tumblr media
Some now very familiar names are listed in the colofon of the magazine
Tumblr media
Also see the left bottom corner, the photographer we know now
Tumblr media
All people Sam didn't knew before then, and all related to AN!
But not involved (yet) in the 2016 MPC program as you can see in this snapshot where he tells about MPC and it is even clearly shown how it started in 2014. Sam is wearing the Bear Strength T-shirt as well
Tumblr media
So this is where it all began and AN learned about MPC from Sam.
So then it all changed for 2017 as we read on this blog from obsessivesassenach
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, this is where AN took over and the first registration of My Peak Challenge as a corporation was filed in Delaware on March 20, 2017
Tumblr media
And from here we don't see any mention of Bear Strength anymore, as you can read above 'they changed shirt company to a US based one'. Fight Camp isn't mentioned anymore as well, though John Valbo stays on as a coach as we all know.
SRH was not an officer of this corporation, never was, this has been AN from the start of filing the corporation as a 'Managing Member'. (It's also possible to do a search on OpenCorporation Database on officers, here you can find Alexander Norouzi as officer of MPC, GGC and Latha Ur). Even more Sam has stated multiple times he doesn't get paid for MPC, it's even noted in the FAQ on their website. So the one making comments about how Sam can be free to invest his MPC earnings in his whisky business doesn't have a clue what she's talking about, not to mention other uneducated assumptions and comments.
On the same FAQ we can read:
How much of the membership fee is donated to charity? Fifty percent of net membership fees (after payment processing, membership gift, fulfillment and admin fees) is donated directly to our charity partners.
Note the 'net' membership fees. Yes, 50% and not 59% as Anon wrote, but it is easy to figure that this is just a typo by the Anon as the 9 and the 0 are next to each other on the keyboard. (e.g needlessly a bit very insulting to call Anon out for an 'uneducated bigot' and 'like a demented Asian astrologist suggestion') if I dare say so.
Quoting more of the Anon on this bloggers post:
it's on Sam, who according to original members, basically sold MPC control, in 2017.
Though the wording of the Anon can not legally hold, the sentiment however is very plausible. One can argue and make guesses why Bear Strength all of the sudden was out of the loop. Especially as it was a successful program and it's not really likely a company like Bear Strength would bow out that easily and totally voluntarily. This tweet clearly looks like Bear Strength surely would have liked to be involved for another year
Tumblr media
It leaves enough room for the sort of sentiment (not a fact, but a sentiment) the Anon makes. As curiously Bear Strength completely disappears from the stage as soon as AN gets involved and MPC turns into an LLC registered in the US with just AN's name on it.
From here on we know the history, MPC turned from a project into a business based in the US with gradually more paid employees (of which a number are employed by GGC as well), donating to charity partners they choose each year.
It's also notable how MPC since then has employees, before in this post I showed Joshua C. linkedin profile shows being involved since 2018, Jordana B. has been involved from the start of the US LLC and Cheryl A (AN's (ex)wife) since 2021. On FB we see the magazine's last post dates from November 2019.
Last but not least, to put things just a bit more in 'context', another interesting quote from the obsessivesassenach blog is
My Peak Challenge and MPC were officially registered trademarks. No one, not even Peakers, could use those two terms in any public way. Not even for fundraising or naming their little private facebook groups. If a Peaker wanted to raise money for Bloodwise, UK, great, awesome, wonderful, but don’t use the branded and registered and trademarked MPC/My Peak Challenge in your pursuits. It belongs to the business.
Not entirely true, but yes, from there on My Peak Challenge and MPC were officially registered trademarks. But not owned by the business! The trademarks 'My Peak Challenge', MPC', and 'PEAKER' are all surprisingly owned by Sam Heughan as an individual for the US and European market (including the UK)
Tumblr media
Note that the first filings dates of My Peak Challenge and MPC are February 2016 and the first use date of the mark is stated at least as early as 12/31/2014
Tumblr media
An example of the earliest use date is given as specimen where we can still see the Bear Strength MPC T-shirt
Tumblr media
The attorney filing the trademark is the known attorney involved in other trademark filings from GGC
Tumblr media
So it doesn't leave us much room or thoughts on who told Sam to file these trademarks. Though I'm glad he still is the sole owner of the trademarks.
Ergo, the answers this blogger gave to Anon are based on, to say it mildly, sloppy and incomplete research and incorrect assumptions presented without the context. I do not intend to attack her in any way though, but I dislike rewriting history based on assumptions and felt the need to put out the correct version.

easy company registration cards part 1
part 2
included in this compilation under the cut are the registration cards of 15 easy company veterans featured in band of brothers (2001). all are taken from publicly available draft records held in online databases and collected by me, and contain details like the registrant's serial number, physical attributes, date and place of birth, phone number, residential and mailing addresses, place of employment and nominated next of kin, as well as their handwriting sample and signature. like or reblog if you use or save.

a note about draft registration
during the second world war, the united states selective service system conducted a total of six draft registrations, the records of which are held collectively in two groupings at the national personnel records centre in st. louis, missouri. members of easy company were drafted in all but one of these registrations from october 1940 through to december 1942. the six registrations are as follows:
16 october 1940: males aged 21 to 35 "within the continental united states". winters, nixon, welsh, toye, perconte and liebgott were among those registered on this date.
1 july 1941: males "who had reached 21 since the first registration". lipton and speirs were registered on this date.
16 february 1942: between the ages of 20 and 45 "who had not previously registered". roe, bull, malarkey and luz, among others, were registered on this date.
27 april 1942: between the ages of 46 to 65 "not eligible for military service". no known easy company members were registered on this date.
30 june 1942: between the ages of 18 to 20. talbert, webster, grant, guarnere, babe, shifty, skip and christenson, among others, were registered on this date.
10-31 december 1942: "those who reached the age of 18 after 12 november 1942". penkala, who turned 18 in august 1942 three months before the cutoff, was nonetheless among those registered in this period.
if you have a family member or ancestor who served in a branch of the us armed forces during either the first or second world war, chances are that you can find their registration card on databases like ancestry.com and familysearch.org.

Nebula devblob Feb '24
This is a crosspost from cohost.
Thinking I'm going to start doing a weekly or fortnightly summary of changes on Nebula in a given week. Probably not going to be the most super thorough or well structured post, as I am a bit scatterbrained at the best of times, but heigh ho.
Nebula SS13 is an open source project based on the Baystation 12 version of Space Station 13. SS13 is a topdown multiplayer simulation game where you play the crew of a ship, station, colony, etc. depending on your fork and map, with the Nebula and Bay forks having a focus on roleplaying and simulation interactions.
Notable changes
Traitors (sort of like mafiosos in Mafia, secretly assigned antagonists) were getting tasked with assassinating their own informants among the crew. That has been fixed.
Quite a bit of work has been going into the fluid simulation. The current sim is a bit haphazard and allows you to use crewmembers or monkeys as sponges to soak up any flooding, since the water goes into their touching reagent holder and vanishes into thin air.
Lots of optimization work being done by Penny, mostly around initialization time, event registration/deregistration, and various smaller fixes and streamlining from her downstream project Lighthouse.
Outstanding bugs of note
There's a fun issue with the dev branch currently where, due to some changes to how atoms handle temperature changes, if you put a human in a 100C environment, all their blood will instantly coagulate into one giant clot. This has absolutely no negative impact on the human.
A serious client crash issue has been narrowed down to specifically trying to cut the tail off a humanoid mob with one. As soon as you dismember the tail, everyone within viewing distance will experience a hard client crash to desktop. This may simply be God's punishment; investigation continues.
Using an elevator to descend a level can drop you into a small patch of vacuum for unclear reasons. If you're very unlucky, that one tick of total pressure loss can explode your lungs. Use the stairs for now, it's better for you.
Current priorities
We have a few PRs waiting for merge into the 5th staging period, where we shake as many bugs as we can out of the dev branch before marking it an official release and pushing it to the stable branch. When those go in, we'll start r5 staging. Exciting stuff.
I'm working on some changes around enhancing the cooking system and the general experience of interacting with food. So far I've rewritten utensils to work a bit better - previously they liked to just teleport a chunk of food from your meal into your guts, bypassing all checking of petty things like 'can I actually fit this food in my stomach' and 'am I physiologically capable of eating this mint without exploding'. Next up: Soup(tm).
I kinda wanna add fishing? But I don't just want to use Polaris fishing where you click a rod on some water and wait for 300 years. Pondering how responsive a Stardew Valley fishing minigame would be in BYOND...

📚Broppy CollegeAU | "Campus Days"
Part 4: Locker Buddies
Thursday, Week 2 of 16.
Branch and Poppy are walking together this morning, making their way to class through a path framed with lush green bushes and trees. A fresh cool breeze, the sound of birds singing, and a friend to share this moment with is one they both bask in. Branch holds open the door for Poppy, walking in after her.
“Alright class” The professor begins, leaning against the front of his desk. “So, if anyone hasn’t paid enough attention, there are flyers talking about locker registrations. They begin giving lockers and the codes next week, so pick your partners now before they all get taken.” He waves his hand and begins to gather his memos.
Poppy glances at one of the flyers tacked to the left side of the classroom, wondering who a good partner would be to share a locker with. She played with her polished fingernails, ’None of the snack pack members are in any art classes this semester, so they’re out of the question. Viva majors in business, not art, so it would be pointless to have a locker across the campus.’ Poppy’s thoughts were interrupted with the professor’s booming voice, he’s beginning today’s lecture. She saved her ideas for later.
A little while later, the class was busy painting. Suddenly, Poppy had a lightbulb moment. She looked up towards Branch, with a twinkle in her eyes she grinned, biting the bottom of her lip with eagerness.
“Psst, Branch!” She waved her hand in front of Branch to grab his attention, he slid his headphones off to listen, “Yes Poppy?” He continued mixing paint on his pallet.
Poppy sprayed her pallet to keep the paint fresh, “Will you share lockers with me?” Clasping her hands under her chin, she pouted and gave Branch her best puppy eyes. Branch could swear he saw sparkles in her eyes from that move, a blush crept up to his cheeks. ‘How could she look so...’ He blinked the thought away, and after a moment, he composed himself. Grumbling under his breath, he looked at Poppy,
“Okay… But only because I need one.” Branch looked to his left, practically burning a hole in the wall.
Poppy gasped with excitement and nearly jumped across their carts to hug him by the neck. “THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!” She loudly whispered repeatedly into his shoulder, nearly crushing him with her arms.
Poppy and Branch go back to painting. Branch had to compose himself, the hug did a number on him. He sits down and adjusts his apron, continuing to mix his paint. Poppy sits down in her chair, looking down she noticed the paint smeared on her apron and uses a towel to clean it off. After a moment, Poppy speaks up.
“Hey Branch?” She’s still cleaning her apron and quickly glances up to see him. “Yes Poppy?” This time, a tone of endearment is in Branch’s voice. Poppy’s smile seems to falter a bit, looking down again, her motions slow, “I just wanted to thank you... When I learned about those assaults, I couldn’t imagine what it would’ve been like for those trolls.” Her voice cracked a bit, her hands began to tremble.
Branch noticed the change in her words and stopped his work. Slowly, he rolled his chair around their carts and stopped to her left side. He slowly reaches for the towel in her hand, setting it down on her cart, and carefully taking her hands into his.
“I want to open up to you about something... or someone to be exact.” Poppy’s eyes pricked a bit and her eyes looked glassy. Branch gently rubbed circles on the back of her hand, grounding her from the memories she seemed to be reliving, he waited patiently for her to continue. Before Poppy could finish her thought, the ringing of a distant bell signaled their break. She freed her left hand to rub her eyes dry.
“Actually, let’s go get something to eat, I’ll tell you after we’ve had some food.” She gave Branch a weak smile and squeezed his hands, her heart swelled from his kindness. He nodded and returned her smile, guiding her to stand up. Together, they left behind their aprons and took their wallets, walking out of the classroom.
The air outside was warmer, not too hot, and the occasional breeze was still cool. The pair walks side by side, still holding hands, it seems to be the only thing keeping Poppy from spiraling down. In peaceful silence, their hands swayed with each step in a rhythmic motion. Eventually making it to the café, Branch was first to break the silence.
“Poppy, I’ll buy you your snacks today.” His thumbs gently caressed her knuckles, he received a squeeze from her hand, and a weak smile on her face. “Thank you Branch.” Poppy looked up from her shoes to meet Branch’s eyes, her mind was at ease again.
“My treat princess.”
Branch held the door open for Poppy, she walked out with strawberries and cream milkshake in her left hand, her pinky holding a bag with a sandwich inside. Branch Followed behind, his left hand holding her free hand, and a cold brew expresso in his right. They only walked a few feet when Poppy freezes in her tracks. She was staring off into the distance, watching a couple in the cafeteria being friendly. Branch takes notice, following her gaze.
Two trolls were sharing a single seat, a lady on the man’s lap. His purple complexion and blue teal ombre hair ringed alarm bells in Branch’s head. Quickly, he gently pulled Poppy away from the scene, sitting her down near their classroom building. The tree above provided a fresh shade on the cold concrete benches. Branch sat to Poppy’s left side, facing his body towards her, and waited for her to calm down. He rubbed soft slow circles on her back, to bring her back to reality. She takes a deep breath and stares off into the distance.
“His name is Creek… That guy you saw, with the lady on his lap” Her voice strained a bit, “He’s my ex.” Her lips pursed. After a moment she continued, “We dated for a few months, but they were the worst months of my life.” Poppy squinted, questioning Creek’s actions, “To this day, I still don’t understand his intentions, he would stalk me after we broke up.” Her hands waved around, emphasizing her frustration. “I literally had to call the police on him, which spooked him, and I hadn’t seen him until today.”
Branch noticed she couldn’t finish her thought; she slumped her shoulders a bit and stared up to the clouds. All he could do was sit with her, supporting her, “Need a hug?” He opened his arms. Poppy practically threw herself into his embrace, shallow breaths, and quiet sobs are all Branch heard. He held her firmly, providing a warm cocoon for her, keeping her safe from any pain in their own little bubble. After 10 minutes, Poppy pulled away, gazing into Branch’s eyes.
“Poppy, it’ll be okay, I’m here for you whenever you need a shoulder to cry on.” His voice was like honey that melted her fears away, he carefully cupped her face and wiped her tears away with his thumbs. “Now, let’s have you take a sip of your milkshake, a bite of your sandwich, and then we can head back to class when you’re ready.” Branch sits back a bit, encouraging her to eat, and waits for her to lead them back to class.
Outside of the classroom, Poppy pulls Branch into an embrace, and takes a deep breath. “Thank you for that Branch, I’m not ready to go into everything today but, you helped me remember that I’m safe again.” She pulled away to smile at him, her bubbly persona was back, and the sparkle was bright in her eyes again. “Anything for you princess” He gave a shy smile, his confidence from earlier had disappeared.
Poppy giggled at the nickname and playfully punched his shoulder. “I didn’t realize we were at the nickname level of friendship.” She gasped, pretending to be shocked. “It- it just came naturally.” Branch could only hide his blush before they headed back inside and ended the day with a walk back to Poppy and Viva’s yellow Beetle.

Dam project threatens Indigenous rituals, hunting areas, and even gravesites in the Tenharim Marmelos Indigenous Land
InfoAmazonia and BdF visited the territory to understand the views of the indigenous people about the construction
Tumblr media
Once a year, dozens of indigenous people from the Tenharim Marmelos Indigenous Land (IL), in the municipalities of Humaitá and Manicoré, Amazonas state, leave their villages on an expedition towards the southern end of their territory, where the headwaters of the Branco, Preto and Marmelos rivers are located.
The group spends up to 20 days in the forest and returns with game and fish that provide food for all participants of the Mbotawa festival, held in July. The celebration gathers the population of the eleven villages in the territory, as well as guests from other indigenous groups of the Kawahiva branch.
Up to 500 people take part in the festival to experience, together, the rites of the Tenharim – weddings; the ritual of young women, which marks young Indigenous women’s passage into adulthood; and the ritual of the dead, in which the memory of the deceased is revered.
“When we organize this party, we involve the entire territory. Women, children, young people and the elderly. It is a time for older people to pass on traditional knowledge, our culture and traditions to youth,” explains Daiane Tenharim, head of the Tenharim Morõgwitá Indigenous People Association (Apitem).
The expedition goes to the most preserved part of the territory, which the Indigenous people call “the market.” They do not hunt or fish in that area during the year, precisely to have a “stock” to which they can resort for the July festival. The area has been inhabited by the Tenharim since before they had contact with non-indigenous people. It is the site of the ancient village Aeguera, after which a stream connected to the Preto River is named.
Being an area of virgin forest, isolated indigenous groups also circulate there, recognized as Kawahiva relatives by the Tenharim. They are identified by the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (FUNAI) as the Kaidjuwa isolated group, but their registration has not yet been confirmed by the General Coordination of Isolated and Newly Contacted Indians (CGIIRC), a FUNAI branch. That is what effectively guarantees the measures to protect their circulation area, since confirmation suspends all economic activities as well as contact with non-Indigenous people by restricting use of the area.
It is also in that area that the construction of the Tabajara Dam is planned, a 37-square mile (97-sq. km) reservoir in Machadinho d’Oeste, Rondônia state. The project has been under discussion for 17 years and, as revealed by InfoAmazonia and Brasil de Fato, it should reach nine Indigenous lands (ILs), including isolated peoples. The Tenharim Marmelos is the closest IL to the project.
