Boozle's 2023 Top Ten Dramas
I've been really enjoying reading everyone's top lists of the year, and I've actually been thinking about my own for a few weeks now, because I knew how hard it would be for me to put my lists together! Basically, in terms of Asian drama series, I watched a lot this year. According to my MDL, I have completed 99 dramas for the whole year. (Disclaimer: not all of these were BL, and a handful were short films. Regardless, I still think that's a ridiculous amount and I understand why people think I have no life x_x) So, I think you all can understand why these lists are going to be a little difficult for me!
Note: Everything I say here is my own personal thoughts and opinions. I'm not trying to attack anyone for liking something I don't, or disliking something I loved. We're all pals here, okay? <3
Top Ten Dramas (Note: not all dramas were released in 2023.)
Tumblr media
(i) He's Coming to Me (2019) After watching Something in my Room last year, I swore to never watch another 'ghost boyfriend' series because gosh, even if ghosts are my favourite spooky thing, my heart cannot handle the pain of a sad ending. However, Ohm and Singto sucked me in, and this was just lovely and even gave me a happier ending than I'd expected. I'm a little sad that I was so late to this series, but it has definitely found it's place in my heart.
Tumblr media
(ii) My School President (2022/23) I still can't believe that I originally thought this was gonna suck and only started it because I wanted to see what everyone was fussing over. I became so invested in these lads and gosh, I fell in love with the cast (minus Prom, who still irks me). Fourth, Gemini and Mark were absolute standouts in this, and I honestly cannot wait for My Love Mix-Up! because they will be fantastic.
Tumblr media
(iii) Moonlight Chicken (2023) This is a surprise to no one, because it seems like it's on everyone's favourites list. Again, though, this was a surprising hit for me; I originally only planned on watching for First and Khaotung because I didn't really know Earth and Mix very well (I only started watching BL at the tail end of 2022, so I feel like I was still a little bit of a newbie at the time) and I just fell in love with EarthMix. They have chemistry that is just so mesmerising and belongs to them. The writing of this series was also just perfect, and the cast was wonderful. It deserves all the accolades it's been getting, and I honestly think this will always be a favourite of mine.
Tumblr media
(iv) Choco Milk Shake (2022) In all honesty, I expected this to be weird because it's literally about a guy's pets coming back as humans and his dog falls in love with him and his cat falls in love with his uncle. It sounds like it should be creepy, but it really isn't. I sobbed like an absolute baby during this, and whilst I found the ending a little confusing, I loved it. I really hope we get that rumoured second season.
Tumblr media
(v) The Gifted (2018) & The Gifted: Graduation (2020) Okay, I'm including both seasons of The Gifted because I loved them both for their own reasons. However, one of the main things I loved about this series was that it made me appreciate actors I'd never cared much for before. I didn't get all the fuss about Gun Attaphan until I watched this (and yes, I'd already seen Not Me), but I thought he was spectacular in this. Chimon and Nanon were fantastic, and I really loved Mek and Victor, even if they weren't as porminent and I'd have liked.
Tumblr media
(vi) A Boss and Babe (2023) Ah, my first experience of ForceBook. I would die for these men. This was a bloody brilliant series, and if you want my honest opinion, it really showed how fantastic Book is at acting, because Cher is nothing like any other character he has portrayed. I loved the backstories and the little nuances, and the supporting cast was fantastic, too. This series deserves more credit and respect (but can we pretend the Our Skyy 2 episodes never happened? Because they were so weird.)
Tumblr media
(vii) Beyond Evil (2021) This is probably the best Kdrama I watched all year. It had everything I need - murder, mystery, tortured men with tragic backstories, plus twists and turns in every damn episodes. The acting and writing was superb and I'm honestly depressed there isn't going to be a season 2 (as far as I know?).
Tumblr media
(viii) Only Friends (2023) Okay, I know we all have our complaints about things that went wrong with OF, but you know what? I still loved it. Yes, I still think the creators made mistakes with allowing fan opinions to influence the editing and I'm bitted about the treatment of Boston in the end, but I loved these characters and their stories. The cast put their heart and soul into their performances (especially Khaotung and Force) and I really hope we get to see them in future series' together again, as they all work so well together.
Tumblr media
(ix) I Feel You Linger in the Air (2023) This was another series I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did, yet I was there with the rest of you, bawling my eyes out when it ended. Despite the fact my dream career is a historian, I often don't enjoy historical dramas, so I put this off for the first few weeks of it airing until all the gif sets finally forced me to check it out. The cast was fantastic, and the writing was brilliant. I will be broken hearted if they don't get a second season, because they deserve it.
Tumblr media
(x) I told Sunset About You (2020) & I Promised You the Moon (2021) I'm including both series as one since technically it's just season 1 and season 2. I loved these shows. They were the most realistic portrayals of young teenage queer love that I have seen in so long. I know a lot of people get angry with Teh in IPYTM but by gosh, my heart just hurt for that confused boy; Billkin's crying is so tragically realistic and as much as I too hated that he was hurting Oh-Aew, I also could understand the confusing feelings that come with growing up. Oh-Aew was just...perfect. PP Krit really just cut my chest open, crawled inside and made a little home for himself with this performance. My only issue is that these two haven't been in anything else together since, and I really hope 2024 fixes that, because as much as I support their music careers, I need them on my screen again.
Honorary Mentions: (i) Kiseki: Dear to Me (2023) (ii) The Warp Effect (2022) (iii) Home School (2023) (iv) Our Dating Sim (2023) (v) La Pluie (2023)

Tumblr media
You loved parties. Not the loud music and thick smoke, not the booze and smell of vomit, but your friends. Every time they gathered at someone's place, your heart fluttered, filled with happiness and content and long-lasting memories.
Connie had the brilliant idea of spending a week in the mountains during your spring break, and you wasted an entire night searching for the perfect cottage to rent. Luckily everyone was down with his suggestion, the only problem was how you'd sleep. Historia obviously wanted to share a room with Ymir. Mikasa and Eren were an item now, so they'd have to sleep together. Armin wanted to try his luck with Annie, so no one objected to that. Jean declared that he wanted to bunk with Connie, like the two eligible bachelors they were, and that left you and Sasha to share a room together. You didn't mind it, in all honesty you loved Sasha with all your heart — but you secretly hoped someone would pick up on your feelings for Connie and let you sleep with him. You weren't that lucky.
You packed your bag the night before the trip, obsessively ticking everything on your list and double checking every item and pocket. It was ready, with one item missing — the white lace babydoll smoothed on your dorm bed. You chewed the pen cap, debating whether to bring it with you or not. You bought it for special occasions, but you haven't had a dick appointment in a long time, and you doubted you'd have one this week. With a shrug, you decided to bring it — you never know what might happen. Nighttime passed quickly and you soon found yourself all dolled up, albeit still sleepy from all the tossing and turning, excited to make more memories with your friends.
The train station was packed with people, especially students who went back to their hometowns for the break, and you were relieved to find Armin and Mikasa there. You three were always punctual, followed by Jean and Annie. Eren, Sasha and Connie were always late, which is why you told them the train leaves at 7 am instead of 7:30. It was a dirty strategy, but no one wanted to miss such a fun opportunity because of those lazy fuckers. And lo and behold, they decided to appear at 7:15.
"That was some good thinking." Jean shook his head, hand sympathetically placed on your shoulder.
"I'm only glad you guys rolled with it." You laughed without noticing the way Connie stared at you, and even he didn't understand exactly what he felt. Was he grumpy because he hated morning, or was it Jean's hand on you that irked him?
"It's not polite to stare." Sasha pulled Connie out of his thoughts.
"I wasn't staring, I was looking." Connie rolled his eyes, gripping the handle of his suitcase a bit too tightly.
"I just don't get it why you don't tell her you like her." The girl popped a bubblegum baloon, proceeding to chew it very loudly.
"Are you kidding me? She obviously likes Jean. Look how she's laughing!"
Sasha placed an arm on his shoulder, a sheepish smile on her face. "You, my friend, are a dumbass."
"Takes one to know one."
To say that your friends were loud during the train ride was an understatement. They didn't really care about the nasty glares other passengers shot at them, opting to talk, sing, eat and practically embarrass themselves. But two hours later you arrived, and the fresh, crisp air of the mountains was a blessing. You didn't regret coming, all of you deserved a break after all the exams, studying and all-nighters you guys pulled.
"We could visit the military museum!" Armin suggested, but Connie scrunched his nose.
"We came here to get high, drink and spend time together, why the fuck would we visit some old ass building?"
"I'd like to go to the museum." You awkwardly smiled, earning a 'see?' from the blond. Mikasa, Eren and Annie backed you up, and since it was a democracy, you ended up leaving your bags at the cottage and touring the small town to find the military museum. The building wasn't massive, and inside it was dark, with crimson carpets and dim lights. It was actually quite a romantic atmosphere, had it not been for the weapons and armours displayed in glass cases. Connie watched you intently, taking in every movement, every flinch, every hair tucking, every scrunch of your cute nose. You absorbed the information, hungry for knowledge. This was something you and Connie didn't share — yes, you were down to drinking and smoking, but you were also eager to learn and study, while he always preached how 'you can always retake an exam but you can't relive a party.' He wasn't stupid by any means, but unlike you, Jean, Armin and Mikasa — who alwaysstudied and never skipped lectures — Connie would wing it and somehow end up getting better grades. His strategy didn't always work, and sometimes, when you were in college, he'd ask you to tutor him. Now you were second year undergraduates, and while you were studying different subjects, you still made time for each other.
"That's a nice, uhh..." Connie squinted, "...shotgun."
"It's a musket." You chuckled, your fingers accidentally brushing his as you turned around to face him.
"Shotgun, musket, same thing."
"Actually, muskets are muzzle-loaded and fire a single bullet, but shotguns pack multiple pellets in one shell." You explained. "I'm sorry, you're probably not interested in my ramblings."
"No, no, it's... interesting. I just wasn't expecting you to know so much about guns." He rubbed his nape and smiled at you.
"Well, I do study history, in case you forgot."
"How could I forget that?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" You awkwardly elbowed Connie. Why was it so hard for you to just tell him your feelings? Oh, right, because you've been friends for ten years and if he didn't like you back, it would only ruin a great friendship.
"It means you brag about it so much it's kind of hard to forget." He told you, quickly realising just how insulting that sounded.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that's how you felt..." You sighed, eyes darting back to the weapons.
"No, I didn't- forget it." Connie shook his head. Well played.
Back at the cottage, with enough food and booze to last the group a month, you decided to stay in your room for the rest of the day. It wasn't the first time you had embarrassing moments with Connie, but this particular one made you anxious to be around him. Did he really dislike you that much, or was it just friendly banter? If you were to ask him, you could find out, but every scenario in your head had a bad outcome, so avoiding him for now was the smartest choice. Sasha pleaded with you to spend the evening in the living room with everyone else, but you brushed her off, telling her you weren't feeling quite well.
"Text me if you need anything." She told you before leaving. It was immature to act this way, you knew that all too well, but it wasn't like Connie cared, right? You eventually decided to go downstairs after finishing a long episode of your favourite tv show, your stomach begging for nourishment. As silently as possible, you tiptoed behind the couch. The hallway was dim, the sun had already set, and the only lights were the ones from the wide TV screen in the living room where your friends were watching some corny horror movie. You could cut the suspense and tension with a knife, and when you dropped a teaspoon, everyone jumped.
"Sorry, sorry! It's just me!"
"Jesus Christ, Y/N, you almost gave me a heart attack." Jean got up from the floor and walked behind the couch. "How are you feeling? Sasha said you're ill."
"I'm fine, don't worry." You picked the spoon up and threw it in the sink. "It's just a headache, I'll sleep it off."
"Good, we need you here." The man wrapped an arm around you. "You're missing how Connie's crapping his pants at this shitty movie."
From the outside it would seem like you and Jean were a couple, but the truth was far from it. You two grew up together, his family was friends with your family, and what you had was nothing more than a brother-sister relationship. Jean's little remark earned a disgruntled look from Connie, you quickly picked up on that, and so you playfully jabbed him in the stomach.
"Connie's crapping his pants? You're the one who almost had a heart attack." You grinned.
"Oi, that was only because you dropped your stupid spoon. I was invested in the movie."
"Mhm, sure you were."
"Hey, you sure you don't want to join us?" Mikasa waved at you from the living room. You pondered over her question. Perhaps it wouldn't be too awkward to sit with them.
"Alright, sure, why not?"
"Come, sit next to me." Sasha shuffled to the side, but what she really meant by that was 'sit next to Connie', because she shuffled to the otherside.
The following two nights were surprisingly quiet, all you did was play board games, watch movies and walk around the town taking pictures. The tension between Connie and you seemed to dissipate, and you both forgot the unpleasant interaction you had on the first day. But on the fourth night, that's when shit hit the fan. Annie and Armin left for a date, and Eren and Mikasa wanted to spend the night alone in their room, leaving you, Sasha, Jean and Connie unsupervised, bored and tipsy. There was absolutely nothing good to watch on the TV, and you almost wanted to scream when your friends wanted to play truth or dare. It was one of those games you despised, because the whole point of it was to put the players in uncomfortable situations. And you didn't like being uncomfortable, unlike your friends.
"Jean, truth or dare?" Sasha beamed.
"Dare, duh."
"Alright, I dare you to switch roommates for the rest of the week." She sipped her blackberry cider.
"Okay? So, I'll stay with Y/N, then."
Good lord, if looks could kill, Connie's would annihilate Jean and Sasha off the face of the Earth.
"No, no, you'll stay with me. Y/N will stay with Connie."
"Eh? Why does your dare involve us?" You asked, confused and curious of your friend's proposal.
"Because." She shrugged. "Don't pussy out."
"I'm not pussying out. A dare's a dare." Jean scoffed. "I'm gonna go take my shit in your room and shower."
"Y-yeah, I'll go bring mine, too." You got up, using this time to hyperventilate alone. What the fuck was Sasha even thinking? Was this some stupid joke? But your friends wouldn't harm you, so why would she suggest such a stupid thing?
You took a quick shower before curling up in the bed, blankets covering you from neck to toe. Connie wasn't back yet, and you didn't want to go after him, that would just be odd. You were hoping you'd fall asleep before he returned, to avoid any unnecessary fuss, but just as you closed your eyes, the door opened. Maybe you could pretend you were asleep? He struggled to find his pyjamas in the dark, stumbling over furniture and knocking things down, and you turned the bedside lamp on to ease his search.
"Did I wake you up?" Connie bit his lower lip, and through the dim light you watched the way his grey eyes glistened, the way his short brown hair was ruffled, and how the sage green t-shirt hugged his toned abdomen.
"No, no, 's alright. I wasn't sleeping. I can't exactly fall asleep." You clutched the blanket at your chest as you shook the intrusive thoughts away. Connie was your friend, damn it, there was no room for romance between you.
"I can sleep on the floor if you want."
"Oh, God, no, it's... stiff."
"Um, yeah, it kinda is. Alright then, I'll jump in the shower real quick before going to bed." He stumbled into the bathroom and you really wanted to fall asleep now.
But you couldn't. Every time you closed your eyes, Connie's face popped in your head. So much for resting. You tossed and turned on the mattress, trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in, but nothing helped. It didn't take long for him to finish his shower, and you mentally chastised yourself for not falling asleep when you felt him shuffle under the same blanket that was covering you. For a minute, you didn't utter a word, you barely breathed, afraid to disturb the silence in the room.
"Are you asleep?"
"Nope." You heard the click of Connie's phone and turned around. You couldn't see him, but you could hear him.
"Do you wanna talk about something? Until we fall asleep, I mean." You suggested.
"Hmm, sure." He turned on his side and you felt his breath fanning over your cheeks. You were too close to him. "Actually, d'you wanna smoke?"
"Aren't the others gonna be mad if we smoke without them?"
"They don't have to know. Besides, you and I never smoked together." Connie was already up, rummaging through his backpack with the flashlight of his phone. "And then we can talk as much as you want."
"Alright, I'm down."
You laid on the floor, your head next to Connie's as you looked at the ceiling, smoke leaving your lips. He took the joint from you, fingers touching yours and you blushed, the haze of the weed melting your worries away.
"Do you want me to skip the song?" Connie asked, and for a moment you forgot there was a song playing.
"No, I like it." You confessed. "I didn't know you liked Led Zeppelin."
"There's lots of things you don't know about me, Y/N." He passed you the joint.
"Okay, tell me something else I don't know."
"I like it when you randomly say historical or scientific facts."
"Didn't you say I brag too much about it?" You took one final drag before you stubbed the joint out in a makeshift ashtray filled with a bit of water. By this point you were high as a kite, every trace of rationality gone.
"That doesn't mean I don't like it." Connie smiled and you could feel it in his voice. "Now you tell me something I don't know about you."
"I can't sleep with open doors. It freaks me out." You sat up, a breeze blowing through the window sending shivers down your spine. "It's a bit cold, do you mind if I close the window?"
"Go ahead."
You got up and picked the ashtray up but before you could close the window, you stumbled over a chest of drawers, the ashes mixed with water spilling over your t-shirt.
"You okay?" He quickly crawled to you, concern written all over his face.
"Yeah, I'm just clumsy." You laughed it off and waved your free hand. "I'll go get changed, I should have a spare shirt."
But you didn't have a spare shirt. All you had was that stupid white babydoll, and anxiety seeped through your veins. You couldn't exactly show up in that in front of your crush. And you didn't want to ask him for a shirt either. Fuck it, what else could you do?
You peeked out the bathroom door and saw Connie back in bed, lazily scrolling through his phone. God, this was embarrassing.
"You look like you've seen a ghost." He laughed, but when your facial expression didn't change, he frowned. "Y/N?"
"Um, so, I didn't have a spare shirt and- Jesus, this is awkward." You opened the door and his eyes widened. "Is it alright if I sleep in this?"
"Oh, I get it now." Connie scoffed.
"Get what?"
"You were hoping you'd share a room with Jean, right?" He sounded almost disgusted.
"Excuse you? Where did you even get that idea?" You slammed the bathroom door shut, arms folded across your chest.
"I'm not stupid, Y/N. I've seen the way you two act. Do yourselves a favour and just fuck already."
You were speechless. Completely reactionless. The weed amplified your anger, but his words brought tears to your eyes.
"You... you fucking asshole! You think I brought this for Jean? I brought it for you!"
"Eh? M-me?" Connie was confused, and you were pissed.
"Yes, you. Jean's like a brother to me, oh my God! Ew!"
"Wait, so you and Jean are not in love with each other?"
"In love?? Connie, how high are you exactly?" You walked closer to the bed, arms still crossed.
"But- Fuck, I am stupid." He shook his head, the memories of you flirting with him flashing before his eyes. "I fucked up, didn't I?"
"A bit..." Your muscles relaxed and you sat on the mattress. "Really, Connie, I... I like you. A lot. But you're always giving me mixed signals."
"That's because I always thought you liked Jean!" He threw his hands in the air in exasperation.
"No, you're the only one."
"Huh, guess I've really been dazed and confused."
Calloused fingertips ran across your hips leaving goosebumps in their trail. Your hands roamed his back and the way Connie kissed you was better than any high you've ever experienced. He was touch-starved, and you were just as needy. His knee found its place between your thighs and you moaned when it barely brushed your cunt.
"I've been dreaming for this moment for as long as I can remember." Connie breathed into your neck, the hot breath tickling your skin.
"Me too, you blind bat." You laughed and he turned you over, hovering over you.
"'M sorry I didn't notice quicker." He kissed you again. One hand travelled lower, pushing your underwear to the side before he pushed two fingers between your folds. "Fuck, you're so wet."
"Well, at least now I don't have to finger myself thinking about you." You whimpered with a grin.
"Oh?" Connie arched a brow. "Is that what you've been doing?" He curled up his fingers and you threw your head back with a moan. "I thought you were a prude."
"T-there's lots of things you d-don't know about m-me!" You replied back between oh’sand ah’s, imitating his words from an hour ago. That only earned a sneer from Connie, his head dipping between your thighs. "Wait, what are you do- ooh fuck!"
His tongue lapped at your cunt, fingers pumping in and out of you, and you completely sunk into the mattress, moaning his name over and over again. You gripped the sheets, flexing the muscles in your legs as you squirmed and thrashed. Connie stopped and you almost crushed his skull with your thighs at the empty feeling. He pulled your underwear down and shoved the cotton panties in your mouth.
"Don't wake everyone up, Y/N. You don't want them knowing what a little slut you are, do you?"
You shook your head and Connie went back to circling your clit with his tongue, adrenaline rushing through your entire body with each lick, each suck. Tears of pleasure pooled at your eyes, nose and cheeks red from the thrill of your incoming orgasm. The way he was sloppily eating your pussy and moaning while doing it drove you insane, and within seconds you came undone, thighs trembling with delight. In fact, you were so sore you had to push his head back, begging him to stop so you could return the favour.
"You taste so sweet." Connie licked his lips. You don't know what possessed you to pull him into a kiss after you removed the makeshift gag, but he was right, you were sweet.
"Can I...?" Your eyes drifted down to his twitching cock, your voice soft and quiet.
"You wanna suck it?"
"Yes."
"Later. Right now, I wanna fuck you."
Connie gave you no time to protest, his elbow pushed one of your things to the side, the blushing tip of his cock grazing over your overstimulated clit, up and down your slit. Inch by inch it disappeared into your cunt and he let out a satisfied sigh. You bucked your hips, manicured nails digging into his shoulders with each thrust.
"Shit, you're so fucking tight!" Connie growled, head lowering to kiss you. You could still taste yourself on his lips and that only made you clench your spongy walls around his cock. That seemed to please him, because he rocked his hips harder and faster. "You like it?"
"Oh, God, yes!" You gasped, beads of sweat forming on your forehead as you clawed his back.
"Fuck, I want you to ride me." He gripped your hips tighter and turned you over. You tried your best to get in the new position without letting his cock slip out of you, and when you finally adjusted yourself, it was a whole new challenge. Gravity pulled you down, and his tip brushed your cervix, your eyes squinting at the slight pain. "If it hurts, stop-"
"No!" You cried out, your hands resting on his chest. You bounced up and down, the uncomfortable feeling slowly replaced with pleasure. Connie's hands traced your thighs as you rode him, another wave of heat flushing through your core. His palm met your cunt, thumb circling over your clit. "I can't c-come again!"
"Yes, you can. And you will cream on my cock."
The disgust words worked like magic and you flexed your thighs, bouncing faster, head thrown back, hair cascading down your back. "You're so beautiful, Y/N."
"Connie, I-" The words stopped in your throat, the pressure too much for you to handle.
"You what?"
"I'm- oh, God!"
"Atta girl!" He praised you when he felt your silken walls relaxing and your thighs quaking. The second orgasm was so intense you let yourself fall over his chest, dizzy and tired. You thought he'd give you a break, but Connie wrapped an arm around your back, holding you in place before giving your oversensitive cunt a few more thrusts. "Now you can return the favour."
You mustered up some strength to get up and kneel in front of the bed, between his legs.
"Please don't come in my mouth." You asked him before wrapping your pretty lips around his cock.
"Gotchaah-" Connie choked on his words when he felt himself in your hot mouth. You bobbed your head up and down, cheeks hollowed and eyes on him. You didn't break eye contact when you pulled away and spat on the tip, hand pumping his cock to smear the spit. "Hot." He mumbled before you went back to sucking. You felt the throbbing, tightening your lips around him and picking up the pace. "Y/N-"
It all happened in a flash — Connie yanked your hair and pulled your head back, thick ropes of milky white cum shooting all over your face and neck.
"Eew!" You scrunched your nose, hand under your chin to stop it from dripping down the floor.
"What do you mean ew? That's, like, a billion kids!"
"Actually, a fertile man produces around-"
"Don't start. Do not." He pressed his index finger over your lips. "Let's get you cleaned up."
You woke up sore, especially between your thighs, but damn, was it worth it. Connie wrapped an arm around your waist, mumbling something about how pretty you are, but you assumed he was still sleeping — or still high. The sun shone through the blinds and you squinted, annoyed by the brightness, and so you turned around, watching the way your crush snored peacefully.
"Cute." You smiled and planted a kiss on his forehead, waking him up. "Oh, I'm sorry!"
"Why?" Connie rubbed his eyes. "Waking up to you is a blessing."
You couldn't hide the tinting of your cheeks and the grin on your lips. "I didn't think you were the romantic type."
"There's lots of things-"
"I don't know about you. But I'd like to know those things. If you let me, of course." You bit your lower lip, eyes filled with hope.
"Can I be your boyfriend?" He sat up, his eyes serious.
"I thought you'd never ask."
Okay, so maybe Sasha knew a thing or two when she dared Jean to switch roommates.
You walked into the kitchen after getting ready for the day, with Connie following behind you. Everyone was eating their breakfast, and Jean instantly dashed to you.
"Connie, bro, take me back. Sasha's leaving crumbs all over the bed! I can't sleep like that!"
"I can't, man, I wanna spend the rest of the week with my girlfriend." He sneered and you elbowed him.
"I forgot to mention Jean's overprotecti-"
"Your what? Hands off my sister from another mister, you creep!"
"Creep? You're the one who was sexting someone's sister last night." Sasha chimed in, mouth full of cereal.
"Thanks, Sash." Jean rolled his eyes. "For real, how did this happen?"
"You see, mate, when a man and a woman love each other-"
"Nope. I will not hear this."

Lucien - From the Heart Date
SPOILER ALERT!!
A date from CN server which hasn’t been released on EN server yet. Might contains some spoiler.
Tumblr media
Recently, the company undertook a variety show on love. Today is the first day of filming of the new program.
The gate of the studio is facing a leisure park. After winter, the fallen leaves of the platanus will cover the road and creak when stepping on it.
There are occasional wild boars here, but nearby residents always place cat food for them in conspicuous places, so their lives are quite moist.
He always eats chubby, lying on the fallen leaves in the sun.
It happened that Xu Mo had a lecture today at a nearby hotel, and we made an appointment to have lunch together in this park.
Tumblr media
But the work in the morning ended a little later than expected.
When I arrived in the park in a hurry, Xu Mo seemed to have been sitting on a bench for a long time.
The winter sun poured a lot of wine on his shoulders, drawing a warm light on his slightly drooping side face.
After running his fingers across a few lines of headlines on the news, he casually turned a page of the newspaper lying on his lap.
Perhaps disturbed by the sound of the paper, the magpie, which had been resting on the treetops, suddenly spread its wings to win the sky, hovering around the plane trees behind him.
With a "click" sound from the phone, Xu Mo raised his head and met my sight in the golden sun.
I was about to speak, but Xu Mo laughed a step ahead of me.
Xu Mo: Don't be sorry, it didn't take long.
MC: Professor Xu knows how to read minds, he can guess what am I thinking.
Xu Mo: Mind reading is simple, and so will you. If you don’t believe me, you can try and guess what I’m thinking now.
MC: You should be thinking how to punish this late person?
Xu Mo: Well, a good guess.
MC: Why not punish her to eat dinner with Professor Xu at night.
I sat down next to Xu Mo. He put away the newspapers and took out the coffee and sandwiches prepared for me from the paper bag.
Xu Mo: It's a good proposal. However, your new show has received very enthusiastic response. The filming of the last few issues should be very busy, right?
MC: These two days are okay, and no matter how busy the work is, it is no more important than eating with Professor Xu.
I took the coffee and opened the drinking spout on the lid of the cup, and a hazelnut scent spread immediately, making the noon breeze mixed with the sweetness of winter.
MC: How about you, how about today's lecture?
MC: Sneak out during lunch break...
MC: It should disappoint many professors who want to have lunch with you and take the opportunity to exchange a few more words, right?
Xu Mo gave a frank hum, but his expression was always relaxed and casual.
Xu Mo: It doesn't matter, I have a valid reason, they can understand.
He crossed his legs, leaned back in the chair and squinted.
Xu Mo: I told them that I was in charge of the program as a consultant and encountered some problems during the filming, so I had to take the time to communicate with the producer at noon.
I was stunned for a moment.
MC: Professor Xu, based on my assessment of the status quo, it can be understood as: Have you lied to them?
Xu Mo showed a serious expression.
Xu Mo: If the producer is willing to talk to me about the shooting of the show, I think this cannot be called a lie.
Xu Mo: How is it, has the problem you mentioned to me been solved?
During the shooting of this love variety show, something unexpected happened to me.
A female guest told us after the filming of several episodes of the show that she really had a feeling for a male guest on the show.
She proposed an idea and wanted to make a confession part in the program.
This is not only a brilliant idea in terms of program effects, but also fits the theme of the variety show. After several discussions, we decided to cooperate with her in planning.
But the specific way of confession made us tangled for several days.
MC: At that time, we were a little too solemn when we wanted to give gifts. We were deliberately alone and afraid of embarrassment.
Xu Mo turned to me with his arm on the back of the chair, listening patiently.
Xu Mo: And now, is there a conclusion?
MC: Of course~ I am very professional in doing matchmaker.
I vividly described to Xu Mo the opinions that the program team finally reached.
MC: We are going to put her confession note in the clue box in advance.
MC: This is a puzzle-solving session of a two-person team. When the time comes, the male guest will be alone to open the box.
MC: If he is surprised when he sees this note, it will be Happy Ending!
After listening to my description, Xu Mo sighed.
Xu Mo: It takes courage to express your feelings frankly.
Xu Mo: Girls, are always braver than I thought.
The prosperous sunshine shrouded Xu Mo, and I looked sideways at his silhouette overlapping with the light, and every corner of my heart was covered with light emotions.
There are long white clouds floating in the sky, I am holding hot coffee, and my thoughts are also floating slowly.
MC: The moment when ‘liking’ happen, the feeling of heartbeat becomes a seed.
MC: It will grow instinctively, facing the sun and rain.
MC: As for what kind of flower will eventually bloom, it may no longer be important.
MC: The important thing is an instinct.
I leaned closer to Xu Mo, looking at him tightly with my eyes, making a meaningful hint.
MC: As long as this person's eyes look at me, the sun will pour down, and the seeds will surely break through the soil.
He propped his chin and smiled faintly.
Xu Mo: Is it the same instinct as moths attracted to fire?
MC: .....
I suddenly stopped talking.
Xu Mo showed some doubts.
Xu Mo: Did I say something wrong?
MC: Hahaha although it is a bit horrible... but what I think of is a big mosquito lying on the lampshade.
The warm atmosphere was inexplicably broken, and Xu Mo's expression was emotional.
MC: So it's better not a moth, it can be a better looking insect.
Xu Mo: .....
Xu Mo: Haha.... hahahahaha
I don't know why I got into his smile. Xu Mo laughed out of nowhere. He even stooped slightly and put his forehead on my shoulder.
After a while, he raised his head and looked at me, still smiling while talking.
Xu Mo: Well, it's not a moth, it's the instinct of the world's best-looking insect to attack the source of fire.
Seeing that Xu Mo was in such a good mood, I couldn't help but want to tease him a little bit, so I deliberately made a distressed expression, sighed and lowered my head.
MC: What a pity....
Xu Mo: What's wrong?
I took the last bite of the sandwich and patted the crumbs on my fingers, pretending.
MC: The atmosphere was so good just now, I could have taken the opportunity to kiss you.
I caught the slight astonishment in Xu Mo's eyes, and learned his tone mischievously.
MC: I'm teasing you, don't be nervous.
Suddenly he got up and stepped in front of me, bent down directly, and got close to the distance that crossed my breath.
The clear eyes in front of me fell into a pale yellow halo, swaying gentle ripples.
He did nothing, was silent, and looked at me quietly with these eyes.
One second, two seconds, five seconds...ten seconds.
I lowered my gaze subconsciously several times, but every time I lifted it up again, I could see an inch of smile on his lips.
Damn it, lost again!
I turned my face in discouragement, put on a stubborn expression and no longer looked at him, he gave a triumphant smile, and pressed his lips to my forehead.
Xu Mo: Okay, I have to go back to work.
Xu Mo: The spare key is still in the same place. If you can't find it, remember to send me a message.
The voice was soaked with warmth, as if the sun had melted in it all winter.
I feel my auricles are burnt red, nodded.
At the end of lunch time, I hurried back to the studio.
In the afternoon, I mainly took some empty shots with very little content. The ending time was two hours earlier than I expected.
According to the agreement with Xu Mo, I went to his house in advance to wait for him.
When the door was pushed, the wind from the balcony exposed the corridor, blowing a bunch of papers hung on the wall. I quickly closed the door and walked to the paper curiously.
MC: When did Xu Mo paint these...
A thin hemp rope hung on the wall, and seven or eight semi-finished paintings were clamped on them with wooden clips.
All the paintings are me.
I was standing in the snow, I was squatting on the ground to pick up maple leaves, and I was standing in the wheat ears during an outing...
The reason they are said to be semi-finished products is because Xu Mo only gave them half the color.
Many scenes still have traces of sketches, only me and the things around me have color.
It is like a drop of paint falling in water. The color in the middle is dense. The more it spreads, the lighter the color.
But there is only me in these paintings...
I personally made the next decision and took out the easel from the corner of the balcony.
MC: But...
I looked down at my cashmere coat. If I rubbed the paint, it should not be easy to wash.
After a short hesitation, I pulled out a white coat from Xu Mo's laundry basket, which he had not put in the washing machine, and replaced it.
I'll help him wash all these later.
After I was ready, I rolled up my sleeves, picked up the paintbrush and traced Xu Mo's profile on the drawing paper...
Time always flies quickly when you focus on doing things.
When I raised my head again, the window was already a little gloomy, leaving only a faint golden sunset on the curtains.
There was a creaking sound from the door. Once I looked back, I found that Xu Mo had already walked in.
Xu Mo: Sure enough, you were earlier than me.
He put down his briefcase and put on slippers.
Xu Mo: Are you painting?
MC: Uh, yeah~
Xu Mo: It's a good pastime. I'm still worried on the way back. You won't know how to pass the time.
I put aside the paintbrush, stretched my waist, and scratched my wrist.
MC: Although I used Professor Xu's drawing board without authorization, I have a reasonable use.
I removed the half-colored draft from the drawing board and showed it to Xu Mo excitedly.
MC: Although the grading is a little frustrating....
MC: The color of the hair is darker, the complexion on the face is whiter, and the lip color seems too red.
MC: But on the whole, it still shows 80% of the beauty of Professor Xu.
MC: How do you rate it?
Xu Mo didn't speak, but just stared at the painting in my hand and looked again.
He lightened his tone, and gently ran his fingers across the paint on the painting, and the wet color was on his fingertips.
Xu Mo: The painting is so good, I like it very much.
Seeing him a little lost, I shook the painting in my hand in front of him again.
MC: Andㅡit has a little secret!
I took one of Xu Mo's paintings, overlapped the two papers, and clamped it in between.
Although the brushstrokes are different and the colors are very different, the backgrounds of the two paintings can blend together well.
The golden wheat field connects to the azure blue sky, me and Xu Mo are facing each other in the painting, and our eyes intersect.
Naturally as if this is the original picture, there should be two people
MC: It didn't turn over!!!
Before I painted, I didn't expect that my technique had advanced to this level.
Xu Mo stood behind me at some point, stretched out his hand to embrace my waist from behind, and pulled me into his arms.
Xu Mo: The painting is very good, I really like it.
I look back and stuck to the his side profile.
Xu Mo: I also like the paintings you paint, but if the paintings are the two of us together, I would like them better.
Xu Mo tightened his arms.
Xu Mo: I didn't mean it.
Xu Mo: Otherwise, if you talk about it, people don't have themselves in their memory. How do you draw a picture of two people?
MC: Hm.
MC: You're right.
Xu Mo's chuckle came in my ears. I pressed against the warmth of his chest and looked at the painting in front of me.
MC: Xu Mo, are you painting these, is it something to commemorate?
MC: I look at these paintings. They are all scenes from our previous trips. Some of them are from a long time ago.
Xu Mo: It is a part of memories, but it is not a memorial.
Xu Mo: It's just that these pictures are all in my mind, so I simply painted them.
Xu Mo: Or...
He paused suddenly.
Without urging me, we fell into a long silence.
The setting sun outside the window has completely sunk below the horizon, and in the dim room, the sound of the two people's interlaced breathing one after another
The gloomy light cast our shadows on the wall. From this angle, I saw that his bent waist ridge showed a slight arch.
The skin on the side of the neck is filled with a moist smell, which is the breath of Xu Mo that I am most familiar with.
Xu Mo: MC, there are some people in this world.
He spoke slowly, his voice was always calm, and his arms tightened again around my waist.
Xu Mo: Not realizing that "heartbeat" is the beginning of all beautiful stories
Xu Mo: When they find that they have the emotion of "like", the first thing they feel is uneasy.
Xu Mo: They will choose to suppress themselves, resist the occurrence of "likes", and always remind themselves not to fall into this emotion.
Xu Mo: The heartbeat they feel is a complex emotion mixed with anxiety.
Xu Mo: For such people, it can be difficult to express yourself frankly.
Xu Mo put his chin on my shoulder, and stretched out his hand, rubbing his palm on the drawing paper in front of him.
Xu Mo: I have been practicing this candor since a long time ago.
Xu Mo: What you see is the result of practice.
MC: ....
I was speechless for a while and didn't know how to describe my feelings at the moment.
He suddenly bent over and picked me up, strode to the front hall, and put me on the table.
Dark blue night was thrown into the room, and the deep eyes that were close at hand had dark gutters, and they were silently conveying something.
Xu Mo: Or maybe I paint these paintings just to tell you what kind of flowers the seed planted in my heart bloomed.
The ice layer, which had been covered by snow for a long time, finally cracked a tiny mark and made an inaudible sound, but it clearly fell into my ears at this moment.
What followed was that the invading ice tide finally broke through the heavy ice and flowed into the spring.
I fixedly looked at him, as if finally seeing the person in front of me as the person I knew best.
Xu Mo: You are right, the upward growth of seeds is an instinct.
Xu Mo: Even if you know that you will risk tears when you build bonds with others.
Xu Mo: Even if this effect can be explained by factors such as dopamine, phenylethylamine, norepinephrine, and endorphins, I cannot suppress this instinct.
He paused and took my hand to his lips.
Xu Mo: I am willing to obey this instinct.
All the language that expresses emotions is stuck in my throat, and there is no way to convey and vent it.
Xu Mo smiled and came up.
When our lips touched, I saw the tide surge in his eyes.
Xu Mo: .....
All the senses are overwhelmed by such turbulent emotions, as if falling into the deep sea, the hands we hold together are tightly clasped.
Sanity is slowly being pulled away, only the hot breath is getting stronger and stronger.
I opened my eyes slightly, and saw the most straightforward expression in his eyes, which he always used to be silent.
MC: Xu Mo....
Between my lips and the tip of my tongue, I called his name softly, as if reading a mark on my heart.
Xu Mo: Hm..
Slowly, Xu Mo's lips and teeth went down and gently bit on the side of my neck. I was itchy by him. Several times I tried to turn my head to avoid, but I was caught by him.
He seemed to be aroused, and nibble all the way from the side of the neck to the earlobe.
I stepped back half an inch, and he went one foot in until he forced me to the corner, completely circled into his arm.
MC: Xu Mo, you  shameless...
After I protested in a low voice, he finally let go of me slightly, his eyes full of interest.
Xu Mo: I know.
Xu Mo: But no matter what I want, you will satisfy me, won't you?
MC: Bad guy.
He has an innocent tone.
Xu Mo: Is this a bad guy?
I nodded heavily.
He put on an expression of serious thinking, but reached a conclusion within a few seconds.
Xu Mo: Apart from making you a little irritated, there seems to be nothing wrong with being a bad guy.
Xu Mo: Besides, your face now is really cute.
Xu Mo: People can't help but want to bullied the cute.
MC: ...
MC: You are still righteous!
Xu Mo: Oh, yes.
Xu Mo smiled, buried his head on my shoulder, and exhaled gently.
Xu Mo: MC, Do you know what instinct brings me?
He opened his mouth softly and whispered.
Xu Mo: Happiness.
Xu Mo: A pleasure in which desires are satisfied and worries are filled.
Xu Mo: In other words, it is this kind of happiness that makes me unable to resist this instinct.
His hand slid across my waist, cupped my cheek, and kissed every inch of my skin.
But every time, it was just a light touch.
Not a strong desire, I feel more of a gentle invasion at this moment.
From the side of the neck to the cheeks, from the corners of the lips to the eyes.
Like tides over the ankles and fine sand over the toes.
He distanced himself and looked into my eyes carefully.
Xu Mo: I want to thank the light coming from these eyes.
Xu Mo: Let the seed in my heart bloom a beautiful flower.
Tumblr media
Hot fingertips ran across my skin, Xu Mo clasped my hand and pushed me completely against the wall.
The fine kisses linger on the side of the neck, and he sucks lightly and hardly, leaving warm red marks on it.
The night enveloped the city.
The deep night mixed with the beautiful blue slowly spread out, and the deep background color was reflected in Xu Mo's eyes.
Xu Mo: I am glad I did not miss the beginning of this wonderful story.
Xu Mo: As for the ending of this story...
Xu Mo: What do you hope it looks like?
I thought for a while, but couldn't answer.
MC: I didn't think about it.
MC: But it must be better than the beginning.
I stretched out my hand to pull Xu Mo's tie, and skillfully pulled it out of the collar.
However, the brain becomes clear inexplicably under the action of complex sensory organs, and plays back one memory after another.
MC: In fact, at the beginning, I was not always firm, and I was a little uneasy, a little bit uncertain.….
MC: I often feel that you are in front of me, but so far from me.
Xu Mo paused slightly, but did not stop.
Xu Mo: And then?
I tried to think about it, and couldn't help but giggle.
MC: I'm so happy, so happy that could forget this anxiety
MC: You look happy when you look at me, and you are happy when you talk to me.
MC: If you stay with me for a little while, I can even be happy all day.
Xu Mo reached out and stroked the side of my face, sighing in a low voice
Xu Mo: Silly girl.
I pulled on his collar, trying to get him closer to me.
MC: Xu Mo, I want to hug you.
MC: ... also want to be held by you.
Xu Mo pulled me completely into his arms, tightening his arms hard enough to prevent us from leaving a little gap.
I clung to his embrace and kept in mind every bit of his feelings.
Looking back now, maybe all the good stories in the world have their beginnings to follow.
But someone stood in front of me, and I was very happy because of it.
Then he looked at me, and my heart bloomed.

What I Thought About "Echoes of the Past" from The Owl House
Salutations, random people on the internet who most certainly won’t read this. I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons.
What probably gets debated the most in the fandom is the legitimacy behind King being the King of Demons. Some believe that there's truth to his statement, while others, like me, like to think that he was just some stray Eda picked up off the streets. Either option seemed likely, especially since Season One never gave an answer that leaned one way or the other.
Then here comes the writers finally answering the question of who King is in episode THREE of Season Two! Because, again, they don't waste time on giving fans exactly what they want.
Fans wanted answers behind King, we got 'em, and analyzing what those answers mean requires going deep into spoilers. So if you haven't checked the episode out yet, I highly recommend that you do. Trust me, it's worth seeing.
Now let's review, shall we?
WHAT I LIKED
Luz Experimenting with Spells: Hey, look! More proof that Luz isn't an idiot like some people flanderize her to be!
But, seriously though, this is a perfect little thread to introduce into the story. Luz collecting knowledge from Lilith's old books and past work she and Eda made adds to Luz's intelligence while also providing a believable explanation for how she gets new spells. It's also nice to see that she has this little notebook (or spellbook) to help see what works and what doesn't. It's a level of experimentation that proves her dedication to becoming a witch while also exemplifying how she isn't stupid. Occasionally reckless, sure, but you can't say that the person who figured out an invisibility spell through showing her work is also an idiot.
Francios with a Knife: How did Francois get a knife? I don't know. But the fact that a random knife plopped out behind him with little to no explanation is funny, and I will not hear otherwise.
I don't make the rules. I just abide by them.
Luz’s Invisibility Spell: I breezed past this, but I honestly love this invisibility spell. More specifically, I love that there's a limiter. It can turn you, objects, and people you're in contact with invisible, but only as long as you can hold your breath. It helps make the spell something the characters can't always rely on, which is appreciated. Because if it works as long as they concentrate, what's stopping them from sneaking into Belos' castle and assassinating him in his sleep? It's a smart way of explaining why they can't always rely on something, despite how insanely useful it is.
Luz: Let's gush about Luz some more, shall we!
"Echoes of the Past" is another episode that has Luz on top form. She is constantly supportive of King, even if Lilith has a point in the dangers of indulging his fantasy as a powerful tyrant. Doing so would cause more harm than good, especially when King finds out Luz doesn't believe him, but her going along with it was all done with the best of intentions. Luz doesn't want to hurt her friend, and even if she did in the long run, she still makes up for it by helping King learn more about his past.
And, as another reminder, Luz isn't stupid. She's the first to say they should leave when it's clear how dangerous the castle is and is quick to figure out there should be more at the top. Luz is a loyal and caring friend who's also guarded and intuitive when the situation calls for it. This episode understood that, so here's hoping other fans will too.
Lilith: Yeah, she's still growing on me.
I feel like this episode shows a better idea of Lilith's place in the group more than the past two. She's a person who's obsessed with knowledge and learning but considers herself above the jovial nature of King, Luz, and definitely Eda. Therefore, she acts as the perfect catalyst for what jumpstarts this week's adventure. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that she almost instantly dismisses King's claims due to considering herself more knowledgeable than everyone else. Still, I like how she's willing to believe King once she finally sees evidence that seemingly proves he really was the King of Demons, to the point of referring to him as "her lord." Hooty does the same thing, but it comes across as him fearing for his own life and choosing to be friends with someone who could maybe kill him in an instant. For Lilith, her newfound respect comes from the desire to learn more, and it's that desire that makes Lilith an enjoyable character to me. It's adorable to see, and it has some comedic flavor in moments like when she dismisses everyone else and their emotional revelations to take pictures of the carvings around her. I'm sure she'll cause some controversy like other characters with rushed reformations, but for me, I'm more than ok with her addition to the main cast.
More of Lilith’s and Hooty’s Friendship: HOW DOES THIS WORK!?
ON PAPER, IT SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD BE A BAD IDEA, BUT IT F**KING WORKS!
HOW?!
WHAT BLACK MAGIC DID THESE WRITERS USE TO MAKE A RELATIONSHIP SO UNEXPECTED COME ACROSS AS SO ENDEARING AND ADORABLE?!
And where can I get some for my stories...just asking.
But seriously: HOW?!
Hooty Making Himself Portable: Ah, yes. The classic bit where a character does something horrifically grotesque off-screen, and we have nothing but character reactions and sound effects to imagine what happened between shot A and shot B. It's an oldie, but given how hard I was laughing (mostly because of Luz's gagging), it's still a goodie.
Eda’s Portable Bathtub Boat Thing: I mean...I was expecting Eda would use something to catch up with the others, but...that thing...well...I mean, I'm still laughing just by thinking about it. That should tell you how well executed this joke was.
John Luke: ...I'm gonna go ahead and add him to the list because HOLY S**T was this guy disturbing! From his design to his movements to even the sounds he makes when moving, everything about John Luke screams as something that will stay in kids' nightmares for a while. Now, this might seem like a complaint, but to be honest, I'm more than alright with how creepy John Luke is. I highly doubt adult viewers will consider John Luke scary, but I guarantee he'll terrify some of the youngins that this series is aimed for. And that's fine. It's good to creep kids out a little bit with something somewhat scary, as it might introduce them to more good horror stories later in life.
Plus, the reveal that John Luke was only a guard for King is pretty solid narratively speaking. You can see how John never really meant to hurt King aside from one accident when Eda escaped with him. If you want to read into it, I guess it might be questionable to tell kids that something that looks dangerous is secretly nice, but that's really nitpicky, in my opinion. John Luke was a fantastic threat that is designed and animated well, with a solidly executed twist. Some might hate what he presents, most will fear him, but we can all agree on one thing: His theme is awesome (can I get the track for that, please)!
King’s Backstory: Finally, at long last, we know who King is, thus putting an end to a year-long debate. And I fully mean it when I say that the writers gave the best possible answer. Because in a way, everyone was right. Yes, King was just an animal that Eda decided to adopt, like the nature-loving hippie she is inside (She's got the hair for it). However, while he may not be the King of Demons himself, he is still the son of someone who deserves that title. So while he isn't the King, there's a chance he might be the Prince. Once again, there's no direct answer, but given how the writers came up with something that pleases everyone while still providing more questions for debate, it acts as a brilliant move, in my opinion. So whatever answer we get next, I'm sure it will be just as perfect.
Baby King:
Tumblr media
My heart was not prepared for that level of cuteness!
King’s Breakdown: NOR WAS IT READY FOR THIS LEVEL OF SADNESS!
But in all seriousness, a HUGE round of applause to Alex Hirsch for his performance in this episode. He expertly captured the raw emotions of shock, anger, betrayal, and sadness that King must have felt when finding out that everything he believed he was is a lie. It's one of those moments where I don't hear a person voicing lines in a booth (or wherever the hell VAs are voicing characters nowadays), but instead hear a living person being emotionally torn apart. It was heartbreaking seeing King so vulnerable as he's so guarded with his emotions. Seeing him like this adds so much more layers to a character that many would mistake him as a cute, comedic animal sidekick. But just like with Luz, there's more to him than people will tell you.
“I don’t even know what’s real or fake anymore!”: I'm just pointing out this line because I believe it's what convinces Luz to help King learn more about who he is. Hell, not knowing what's real or fake is the main reason why Luz got sent away in the first place, so I feel like she can relate to King when he's in a similar predicament.
Hooty and Lilith vs John Luke: This was just a cool scene with some epic moments of dodging John Luke's attacks and some funny ones, like how Hooty said the word "pain." It's a ten out of ten that I would rewind to watch again.
King’s Other Horn: I'd question the logistics of how a horn that got broken off when he was a baby still manages to fit perfectly in the present...but it is neat symbolism of King accepting his past and letting it be a part of him, so who cares?
(The fact that the colors of the broken-off piece don't match the rest of the horn is nice attention to detail as well.)
WHAT I DISLIKED
It's a Little Too Predictable: I pretty much figured almost every little twist the episode offers. But, I'm willing to say that's because I'm in my twenties, and I've seen enough stories similar to this one, so I'm more likely to know what will happen. The little monsters watching this will see it for the first time, so they'll most likely get more surprised than me...And that was my only complaint about the episode...which is more of a personal problem than an actual issue...I guess that means it's perfect.
IN CONCLUSION
"Echoes of the Past" is an easy A+ in my book. It gives lore and backstory that furtherly develops the characters that episodes like this should. It also tells a tragic story about King that still sprinkles in a few good jokes every now and again to lighten up the mood. Sure, there are some nitpicks I could mention (how did King remember his own birth?). But when the good stuff is done so well, what's the point of dwelling on small, insignificant issues? This is still a phenomenal episode that flew past all expectations I had for it, and it continues the winning steak this season is having so far.
(But that's still three home runs in a row. Meaning that a stinker is coming. Ooiee, is it coming!)

YES YES YES YES YES
Spoilers for RWBY Volume 8 Chapter 6
THAT WAS SO MUCH MORE THAN I HAD EVEN LET MYSELF HOPE FOR
It really looks like this is the Volume the writers realized how many answers we’ve needed for years and years, and is answering them now. I wish it’d come sooner, of course, but since they can’t go back and fix the pacing or writing, I’m really impressed and optimistic about how Volume 8 is going!
BUT MORE SPECIFICALLY
I would like to GUSH about how they handled the Oscar and Ozpin scenes. We have needed, nay, BEGGED for this sort of development, and it’s finally here. There’s too much I want to rave about so bullet point time!
[Note: I love the farmboy so this wound up longer than expected -- have a read more for your scrolling convenience -- TL;DR at the end]
We got confirmation that Ozpin has been pleading with Oscar to let him take over so he can burden the pain and torture instead. Oscar is the one refusing, choosing to take it himself because he knows Salem and Hazel will be much harsher on Oz. I thought that was the case, but I’m so glad they addressed it because otherwise we’d be wondering why Oz hasn’t offered. It does make me wonder, is Oz still able to take control without asking? Oscar was able to fight it in vol 6, and he’s come a long way.
Hazel is holding back -- at least, Oscar says he can tell that he is. This would keep in line with the battle at Haven, when Hazel was suspiciously playing defense and stalling by letting Ozpin monologue, then letting Oscar give a little protagonist speech... I mean, it sure doesn’t LOOK like he’s holding back. Look at this kid:
Tumblr media
moving on before I cry,
Ozpin suggests he take over and try to escape.
Oscar says no, he has a better idea. “This is our chance.”
Oz: “Hm. Maybe you’ve taken one too many hits.” I like this for two reasons: one, because it gives us a taste of the ol’ lighthearted Ozpin humor we’ve missed since he’s been gone, and two, because it shows that he and Oscar think differently. They have different thought processes, ideas, etc. Oz didn’t immediately know what Oscar was planning.
Oscar explains that Salem can’t take on everyone at once, and thus has been sending people to infiltrate all of remnant first, to attack from within.
I LOVE that they had Oscar come up with this, because it is so in line with his character development in Volume 7. Not to mention how in volume 6 he was the one to figure out how to defeat Cordovin’s mecha. It’s cool to see him as a strategist, because while he’s a sweet kid from the middle of nowhere, he’s proven to be really smart and quick.
Plus, this gives him agency. People wanted Ozpin to return and save Oscar, but this is so, so much better. Oscar’s idea, Oscar’s choice, and Oz gets right on board. They’re agreeing to work together, despite their unresolved conflict. “Ozma learned the importance of living with the souls with which he’d been paired.”
AND THEN, A MOMENT I CANNOT THANK RT ENOUGH FOR:
Tumblr media
The captions don’t show it, but Oscar AND Ozpin said this in unison. Now, this and the few seconds that follow were a rollercoaster of emotions. Let’s break it down:
When they said this together, I was positively GIDDY with excitement: they’re leaning into the “like-minded souls” thing and calling attention to the situation! Surely this must be a sign that Oscar and Ozpin will indeed both exist when their souls are one, as they are both equally parts of the combination of lives that is Ozma. Well, maybe not equally (yet?).
Then, my elation was replaced with dread. What if this was actually an indication of them “merging” in the way some of the FNDM interpret it will go, rather than how I think it does? Or what if that’s not what RT is doing, but what if the FNDM takes it as a sign Ozpin is taking over?? I can’t last the whole break without knowing!
AND THEN!!! Ugh, this made me so relieved. Ozpin says, in a slightly amused tone of voice with a trace of a laugh, “We certainly are similar, you and I.” YESSSSS more references to them being like-minded souls!! But still having differences!!
“Maybe we have been presented with an opportunity.” I’m really glad they went the route where Oscar is changing Ozpin’s mind on things. Oz no longer thinks he knows best, and is allowing Oscar to come into his own. Now he’s seeing how far Oscar’s come and the person he is.
Related note: The commentary for the vol 7 finale said that it was Oscar’s speeches to Ironwood about fear and trust that made Oz realize he’s been keeping secrets and hiding out of fear, and inspired him to come back. This is so promising for Oscar’s character going forward.
[Side note: Would love more info on what Oscar meant in volume 7 when he said “these memories... you’re back, aren’t you?” because? Is he just referring to the scenes with things like how he talked about Atlas’ history as if he were there, or does he have access to Oz’s memories now? 2 chapters ago we saw that he doesn’t yet know the location of the Beacon Relic. So unless he was lying really well, he doesn’t have ALL the memories yet. So which ones does he have? RT EXPLAIN]
Next,
Tumblr media
I would like to call attention to the fact that Oscar smiled here. After Ozpin said they were similar, I was worried Oscar would react the way he has in the past: sad and conflicted about his identity, worried he’s becoming less of himself. But no. Like we saw in Volume 7, THIS is who Oscar Pine is. His development was his own, and we get to see that when Ozpin returned because Oscar had made him rethink his choices. Oscar Pine is more himself now than he’s been at any other point in the series.
It’s really brilliant how the writers have used these last 2 volumes to show that Penny, the robot, is one of the most human characters on the show; and Oscar, the boy cursed to death and rebirth with a soul that was not his own, is one of the most individualistic ones. It’s just really cool how they’re playing with our expectations of the characters. (They’re doing great with Salem, too!)
[Side note: Penny’s soul/aura was given to her by Pietro, and they still have distinct personalities and identities. It’s possible that’s a parallel to Oscar’s situation, but I do feel the merge’s completion will result in one remaining soul/identity - just not a “taking over” situation]
Okay, that’s the last of that rollercoaster I mentioned.
Time to get on a new one!
At long last, this episode finally gave us something we haven’t had since chapter 4 of volume SIX*:
*(I am not counting the one second of "Oscar." *glowy eyes* *Oscar blinks and is back in control* in the vol 7 finale)
Tumblr media
OZPIN IS BACK!!!!
First, HELL YES I WANTED THIS TO HAPPEN!!!
Second, wow, they can change really quickly now. At first it took effort and was super visible, then just shook Oscar up a bit with the glowy eyes, and now it seems almost effortless, seamless. The eyes glow and the transition is smooth. I like it.
We didn’t get to hear Oscar’s thoughts after Oz said “Oscar, please,” begging him again to let him take control. So we don’t know whether Oscar allowed it out of pain, exhaustion, their plan, or a decision to trust Oz and work together here. Alternatively, Ozpin may have simply taken over of his own accord. I wish the writers would give us more insight to Oscar’s thoughts, because those scenes already have him talking inside/to his own head, so leaving some of his thoughts out can seem intentional and open-ended, which could mean more dragging out answers, but I think this was fine. Not the worst case of this by far lol
WHEN! HE! SPOKE!
I was hoping for this with all my heart. Over the course of volume 7 in particular, we saw Oscar’s voice, mannerisms, and speech patters start to resemble Ozpin’s. However, he still sounds and feels like Oscar. Going back to Volume 5, heck, even Volume 6 (which is when we last saw Ozpin in control), the voice of Ozpin speaking through Oscar is similar, but distinctly different from how Oscar’s speaking now. So I’ve been theorizing and hoping, and it CAME TRUE! Ozpin sounds more like Oscar now, while still managing to clearly be Ozpin.
Right from the first “Hello,” it was noticeable. It sounded almost like Oscar. I know it’s the same voice actor when one of them is in control (same body, same vocal cords), but that just makes it even more impressive. This is the first time we’ve heard Ozpin’s voice speaking through Oscar since QRWBY yelled at him in the snow in vol 6. And I was NOT disappointed.
“Why do you follow her?” I’ll keep saying it, but he sounds so much like Oscar confronting Ironwood.
“I know how you see me. But her? Look at what she does, how is she the answer, why not stop her??” This gives me serious deja vu to Oscar’s speech towards Hazel in the Battle of Haven (and his speech towards Ironwood in v7′s finale). That speech had given Hazel pause then, and this one does as well, now. Ozpin sounds angrier, though, more aware of just how far gone these people are, but knowing they can change.
Tumblr media
Hazel calls Ozpin out for the same thing the FNDM has been, and honestly, it’s been a long time coming. Hazel’s motivations are extremely misguided, Oscar was right to stand up for Oz/Gretchen at Haven, and the show really needed to reinforce the Ozpin-isn’t-bad-actually thing. Now it’s all out in the open. But it’s Ozpin’s response to this that elevated this scene even more:
Tumblr media
That’s it. Ozma has spent countless lives fighting a war that may be impossible to win. But if no one tries, no one will survive. The gods will destroy all of Remnant. Still, every single lifetime, he chooses to try. Like Oscar said in volume 5 (about Hazel’s sister but writing-wise also kinda about Pyrrha), “She made a choice! A choice to put others before herself. So do I.” Like-minded souls.
Tumblr media
AND THIS!!! Good gods I’m glad he said this. The show went way too long before anyone even questioned the “You can’t” answer from Jinn. Nora mentioned it in passing earlier, which I liked a lot (though this really should’ve been discussed in volume 6, but better late than never). But here? We see that Oz never gave up, never planned on losing, not sending people to a battle he “knows they can’t win.” While Salem is immortal, she is not infallible. Not even the gods were. Salem can be fought. Even Hazel has a moment of hesitation, perhaps even realization, before Salem enters.
Tumblr media
Salem manipulates Cinder, offering her the maiden powers she wants so badly, and Ozpin interjects. “You’ll only be helping her bring about the end, for all of you!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just wanted to show these shots because again, just as we’ve seen Oscar’s mannerisms become increasingly similar to Ozpin’s, now that he’s back, we get to see the other way around. Look at the surprise and fear on his face. Look at how he widens his eyes and raises his eyebrows instead of narrowing/furrowing them now. Listen to the sounds he makes when tortured or thrown about. Listen to the desperation and earnest passion held in his pleas. He’s no longer hiding -- he’s being honest with the people who scare him most, and truly trying to help them see the light.
[Side note: Cinder is not showing remorse in this scene, but I wonder how she’d react to Oscar, not Ozpin, being tortured. In the same episode, we have Cinder being tortured with a shock collar, AND we have Oscar decide to try to appeal to the humanity left in these villains. Last time we saw Oscar, Salem was torturing him with intense, almost electric magic. She might not care, but I wonder...]
ANYWAY I’m done for now. Have a TL;DR that wound up being long too
TL;DR:
Basically, I’m super happy with the writers for the detail put into these scenes:
they confirmed Oz has been begging to take over and bear the torture instead
had Oscar come up with an idea himself instead of getting rescued or immediately escaping
had Oscar view his dire situation as an opportunity, reminding us of his optimism and capabilities as a strategist
had Ozpin not know what Oscar’s plan was before he explained it (this might change as the souls become one, but it at least shows they think differently)
Oscar’s plan to appeal to the villains’ humanity and infiltrate Salem’s forces from within lining up with his volume 7 character development
had Oz trust Oscar and put his faith in him, which is progress for Oz
Oz and Oscar speaking in unison and agreeing to work together
Ozpin’s comment about them being similar, not the same
had Ozpin take control to speak to Hazel
Ozpin’s speech to Hazel and Cinder as parallels to Oscar’s speeches to Hazel and Ironwood, which CRWBY said were the reason Oz realized his secrecy is out of fear of trust, and Oscar’s points are what inspired him to come back.
Ozpin sounding and acting more like Oscar just like we’ve seen happen the other way around (though with Oscar, he’s holding true to his own ideas/morals, with Oz meeting him there)
established hope for some of our villains to defect, setting it in motion.

Start Up: Dalmi's Fantasy Dosan vs New Dosan
The title of episode 8:  Back up, A copy created for when an original version gets lost.
Tumblr media
The Husband hunting game is still on. And episode 7 and 8 of start-up continues to make the race equal between both guys, but again I still feel pulled to the side of Dosan more than Jipyeong. Here are more clues, symbols and analysis on these two episodes that explain more why Dosan is still in the lead but why he could make a mistake and lose it all. Dosan is still 80% endgame to me and here's why: warning long essay ahead.  Check out my previous post on why Dosan has been ahead of the race and why the show hints he's the 'one' fated to be with Dalmi here. Let's begin with episode 7/8:
Tumblr media
BACK UP
The title is obvious, right?  We have two different people in Dalmi's heart, despite her not knowing it. One we have her fantasy Nam Do San: her first love, her helper and her ideal guy. Two we have her real/'new' Nam Do San: her helping hand, her partner, and the actual real version of her ideal guy. The original version in this definition points to Jipyeong. He's the guy who she unknowingly fell in love with as Dosan. But the copy is Nam Do San. Because in episode 7 she admits she likes them both, but she'll still choose Jipyeong's Do San; he's her first love, she finds her self caring and being grateful and indebted to him. The reason why Dalmi is so open and nosy with Jipyeong is because she felt indebted to him and grateful he was always helping her, and he didn't need to. She automatically started to care for him and show up around him. But instead of seeing this as proof that Jipyeong is her endgame, remember her last words; She's getting used to the new Nam Do San. Her feelings were being backed up/copied in two for two very different versions of Do San. She was being a bit hesitant in furthering their relationship because she noticed he was different; she didn't know how to feel about it, but she still liked him (his hands). However, by the end of episode 7, the girl was hooked and in love again. That's why she kissed him. She kissed him because of his actions that day;
First, his idea which was actually heartwarming and brilliant. An app for the visually impaired. Notice she almost gave up on his idea for something flashy/money, but she returned when she realised what she actually liked/or what was fun to her. This is foreshadowing, that she will end up not choosing him at first and will get distracted by the fantasy of her first love, but at the end of the day if Dosan stays true to himself she'll return when that fantasy is lost (Back up: the title)
Second, his hands were once again helpful: He used his hands to smash the plaque of the man who was insulting her in other to protect her from being hurt and she knew what it meant for him to lose his cool like that. Since they'd discuss that he never does that. Dalmi realised how important she was to him both in episode 7 and even episode 8 when he finally tells her about her grandmother and she recognises the reasons for the app. Dosan's hands are always doing something to help Dalmi reach her goal, they're there to pull her up when she's down, there to hold her when she cries and they're there to shield her when she's being attacked. She realised again how grateful she was for him and she fell for him again because of his actions in that episode.
Third: Because she realised how much she wanted this version of Dosan too, this new, different version that excites her at times but also confuses her. Remember because of her first love Dalmi is very hesitant towards new people, she has a lot of expectations and qualities she wants in a new guy if he is to beat Fantasy Do San. Her grandmother calls her out on this, and for Dalmi,  the reason why she was still getting used to the real Dosan was that she was noticing that he wasn't always hitting those qualities she expected of him like for example, he made mistakes, he was ditzy and more reserved, awkward and wasn't as successful as she expected him to be. But she said to her grandmother none of that mattered when it came to him. Because even though Dosan is different from Fantasy Dosan, his actions have shown her that he's pretty much still the guy she wants: he's modest, smart and selfless and he helps her, inspires and distracts her just the way she mentioned he would be in episode 3 when she found excuses why she dumps guys previously. Dosan ended up being like the guy in the letter despite being different.
Tumblr media
Her kissing Dosan signifies that she's put away her doubtful thoughts about getting used to him because she now was falling for him all over again. Her feelings were being backed up: They were being copied without her realising it, she liked two Dosan's in the same way. What this tells us is that she likes them both. Jipyeong and Dosan are still head to head because she refuses to give up on her fantasy and memories of her first love. But Back up also foreshadows that her original feelings are going to be lost,  this is because she'll find out the truth and be separated. I think from both guys. But because her feelings for original Dosan is actually copied and improved on, Nam Do San still has a chance to get her back. Basically, once she discovers her feelings, she'll be confused because she likes them both. But her original feelings will be replaced by the copy.
Another proof of how she's backed up her feelings on New Dosan is when he asks her again in episode 8 why she likes him. This time she answers his hands first. Bare with me, let me explain. She grabbed his hands automatically as her answer, and she kissed it, instead of immediately mentioning that his old qualities were what she liked. The first time she answered this question, her heart was still on her fantasy Dosan, but now she's realised that what she wants most of all about him are the current person he is and his hands. All he does for her as the current Dosan. She's starting to care more about this version of him than the first version of him in her mind. It's no longer just because she feels grateful and she cares about his past self, it's because she's attracted and falling for who he is naturally the more she spends time with his real Dosan self. Not the Dosan that is trying to please her or is trying to be perfect, she's falling for him as awkward, dorky and nerdy Dosan. And I think it's so sweet to see it.
Tumblr media
THE TRUTH
But she thanked him for the truth. Dosan in episode 8 tells her and comforts her about her grandmother. She tells him (and we know this is ominous foreshadowing) that she is happy he told her the truth. This shows how important the truth is to her, so next week they're goanna separate and break up because of the lie. However like I said her original feelings may be lost, but she had backed it up on New Dosan. So it depends on what happens when they see each other again (I'm guessing they'll be separated for a while) if Dosan is still Dosan (kind, selfless, living buddha Dosan) then she'll choose him over Jipyeong. Before I continue with this theory, let's focus on some symbolic symbols mentioned in this episode:
Tumblr media
SYMBOLS/FORESHADOWING
Tumblr media
DAU OF THE APP/MONEY:
The title of episode 7 is called Burn-Rate; the rate at which a start up spends money. Money  is what was important as well in episode 8 for Dalmi. This was what really frustrated me this episode, Dal mi was hoping for the app to not be successful with people because she didn't get investors, she was worried about the cost of it rather than what it meant when people started to download it. She got distracted twice in both episodes by the money (Jipyeong is the person who caused and led to these distractions each time, In Jae also was part of this) The thing is this is how we're seeing how greed and the ambitious environment of wanting to be a CEO are starting to affect Dalmi and Dosan. Especially Dalmi as she has to think logically as a businesswoman, but she's forgetting that she used to believe in 'miracles' and 'luck' happening for her. Fate as I mentioned before, is making Dosan and Dalmi work together to each achieve their dreams, but they're both slowly getting taken down by reality. Faith is not enough anymore when it comes to logistics. This is why I think Jipyeong is still not the one for Dalmi. He breaks and finds every stopping point to her dreams rather than catalyse or inspire her to go for them.
Don't get me wrong he helped this episode because of her, he likes her. Still, when it comes to the company apart from helping with logistics (like the stepfather issue and recording) he doesn't push for the company's success, he puts them down every single time. He refuses to invest in them because they are not successful or logically right (his lack of faith is why Fate doesn't want him with Dalmi because he'd make her give up if Dosan isn't by her side; this is not me being biased).
Tumblr media
He only focuses on the surface (like Dalmi mentioned to Injae things on the surface may seem right, but it isn't on the inside like the spoiled fruits she used to give Dalmi) Jipyeong fails to look deeper and notice the authenticity of someone at first because he's not that open-minded and he doesn't trust easily. This is a good thing in reality as a businessman, but when someone is trying to reach out and make their dreams a reality, he is like the opposite of what is needed to do that, because of his pessimism. Don't know if this is making sense but anyway Dosan may not be as realistic but like I said he's someone who is determined and diligent to make his dreams a reality. He may not know-how, or why, but that's where Fate comes in. And that what keeps on pushing Dalmi to do things against Jipyeong's wishes or she uses what Jipyeong tells her (like the recording), but she comes up with how to use it on her own (like she used it to get the investors for the app).
It's excellent that Jipyeong is logical and smart but with a show that is basically always repeating to not go for what looks only good/idealistic on the surface but to search for authenticity and that has a heart (sail without a direction) it's not working in his favour. That's why despite Dalmi getting distracted by money/logistics or following Jipyeong's advice, she ends up doing the opposite or finding a way for it to work for her and this is due to again Dosan's presence in her life. Dosan's idea for the app was more heartwarming and more genuine (connected to her grandmother), so she chose it over the other choices after realising it mattered more to people than something that makes money, she also discovered how to help them get investors (something that she was trying to do all episode) because of seeing Dosan kneel and look defeated.
THE INCOMBUSTIBLE BAG OF JIPYEONG:
First we all know the plant signifies Dalmi, yes Jipyeong has decided to nurture and take care of her more instead of running away from her. Cute right? We also saw Dalmi give him the incombustible bag a bag that cannot be destroyed. Obviously, on the surface, this points to his feelings and their bond (from when they were kids) This clue points to Jipyeong being endgame, not going to lie. But then if you look closely in episode 8 the bag is returned back to Dalmi and is used to hold her shoes she stepped in shit in. So now its a bag full of shit that is going to get thrown away. It served no purpose, and it didn't matter. Its good to see that these two can't escape what they have because of the letters, I won't deny it, they both cared and had a bond that is great and important, and the letters signify that, but as I keep on saying the letters are in the past, they serve no purpose anymore to Dalmi right now. Jipyeong's purpose that he's good at so far with Dalmi is being a mentor, he's good at offering advice, good at logistics, good at ensuring she's okay, but when he tries to cross that line, he's not good at it, he's not as sufficient as a companion as Dosan is to her, he's not as genuine/authentic to her (this will get a lot of different opinions), he's not as inspirational or helpful to her dreams right now. He may change and become more useful and essential as a lover/companion later on. But right now those letters don't appear to serve a purpose, just like the incombustible bag in this episode.
Tumblr media
THE SCRUNCHIE:
I have nothing to say about this as a symbolic item, but it is foreshadowing again if you look closer and notice the details. Jipyeong was the person who originally had Dalmi's scrunchie, he could have returned it back to her and not try and be petty, but in being petty, he returned the scrunchie to Dosan. Yes on the surface this has shaken and scared Dosan. But in foreshadowing terms, the scrunchie represents Dalmi. Jipyeong gave back Dalmi to Dosan get it? It's the same as the sweets where Dosan took it and called it his. Because of Jipyeongs childishness and not going to her straight away to return it (just like he never goes to her straight away, or he's always hidden or one step behind), he ends up giving her to Dosan.
Tumblr media
DALMI’S TALE TO INSPIRE JIPYEONG:
The tale of the dead dog. The first letter Jipyeong sent to Dalmi is the story she tells Jipyeong to get him to invest more in Dosan's app. It's nice to see how that letter affected her (since I just said it didn't serve a purpose) but again in a show that praises authenticity that story was a lie. It was fabricated to help Dalmi deal with her own losses, Jipyeong came up with the idea of the dead dog to help Dalmi relate to him about stuff, yes he told her about the idea of taking things not for granted, but it's still a lie that inspired her. This show keeps drawing lines between Dosan's authenticity of his feelings and actions towards Dalmi being what inspires her, vs Fantasy and Idealisms of Jipyeong's Dosans actions.  See what I mean? Do san may be lying to her about being the guy who wrote the letter. Still, it's not the letter that made Dalmi choose to give up on her job (it was Dosan's start-up company), inspire her choices and make Samsan Tech overcome difficulties (It's always Dosan by her side and his actions that lead her to doing so), not to mention Dosan fell for Dalmi because of who she was in the letters; he loved her real voice/self before Jipyeong even noticed all that.
Tumblr media
So after all this, I still think it's not easy to know who is the endgame. Like I said Dalmi likes both equally now, she's made a back up of her feelings for new Dosan. What we need to see and know now is how change, time and separation affects our characters. This will cause a chance for Jipyeong to step up. Like I said before Jipyeong may learn from his heartbreak and be different and mature, he may become selfless for her and be more exposed to her (this what he needs to do more), or Dosan, my poor Dosan, may end up being regressed. When looking at character arcs, Jipyeong can have character development (start trusting more, being open more, showing up more) and Dalmi also can have growth (stop mixing fantasy with reality, stop being petty with her sister, grow up more for her company). Still, Dosan is pretty much 'perfect' as a character now. The way he needs to grow or develop is opposite instead of humbling himself (like Jipyeong) he needs to be more bold and selfish, that's worrying. I can only see his character arc becoming more and more affected by the ambitious environment and becoming more selfish or ambitious to stay successful if Dalmi leaves him. Ego, Spite, Heartbreak and Ambitiousness changes a person. It's not just this though, but there is a foreshadowing quote in episode 8 about a best friend betraying his team. It's either one of the Sans who does that to him, like  Yulsan might betray him (since the camera was on him for longer) or Dosan gets poached by someone (Alex) and betrays his team for what seems more successful for him.  But hopefully, he doesn't lose himself in the process. I still think Dalmi and Dosan are fated, and they positively influence each other, so I'm guessing even after becoming different people they'll match that way, or they'll fall apart. Let's wait to see what it brings.

A Hello, A Thank You, And A Brain Dump.
Dear PwPP team,
I am a recent fan, and I am quite an odd one. I am a lover of everything Doctor Who, so much so I have memorized everything about the Doctor and his interactions during the 2005 revival. Yet since I have watched basically all the doctor who media I had access to (Excluding the most recent season because it does not interest me in the slightest, no offence to 13’s actor) I was without any Doctor Who content that actually interested me.
Well until I made a discovery. You see, when I was moving to a new house, I found a figure I did not remember owning. It looked like a My Little Pony version of Doctor number 10. It fascinated me because It was officially licensed! So, I went down a rabbit hole, and found a whole new Doctor Who community, lost to YouTube, or even, Internet time entirely.
That’s a little bit of a dramatization, but the point still stands that I discovered something that a lot of people forgot. The thing is, I know nothing about the My Little Pony area of fandoms, but I found this new world of Doctor Who so fascinating. Not only that, but it was a whole community!
It was intoxicating! Doctors that I’d never dream of! And actually seeing the doctor see something he truly did not know! But most of all… people who understood what made Doctor Who, Doctor Who.
I’m not a My Little Pony fan, not in the slightest, but as a Doctor who fan, your series is beyond stellar! I know when people understand Doctor Who or not, and you all did know on a level I don’t even thing some real Doctor Who show writers do! Also, your adaptation of the doctor feels so real, it is just stellar!
So, now I have to thank you, all of you. You gave me hope about the future of Doctor who will be bright and full of life! You let me see a new world of story telling. I never saw audio plays used like a legitimate series to such effectiveness and its truly brilliant and has inspired me to try to work on something similar, in due time.
Yet, lastly, thank you so much for the pure, utter joy your work emanates. Yet again, I’m only a Doctor Who fan, but this  series has genuinely gave me more enjoyment that some Doctor Who episodes. It is just, raw, stupid, enjoyable, and oh so timey-wimy fun! Even with some real Doctor Who-esc  dark/sad moments that makes it feel like I’m listening to a real BBC and Hasbro collaboration!
In fact, the work of your team gave me a Idea for a episode I just couldn’t keep in my head. I know you most likely have plans for all the future audio plays, but I  am a story teller through and through, so consider the last part of this letter like a pitch. Yet again, I’m not trying to be entitled and be like “Here’s my idea, Now make it!”, no I literally have no other living soul to share this idea with and its killing me.
Now if I had to title it, it would be a two part play called “Turn Timer” and “Pestering Past”. “Turn Timer” would start with the Tardis crew just bumbling around in time and space. Maybe heading from or to an adventure. Yet when the Tardis enters modern times, it gets thrown off course due to a temporal blackhole (Or something?) making the Tardis materialize in front of a mansion that should not exist, that stands right dead center in the Evergreen Forest (if I got it wrong don’t kill me). The master of the house would be a unicorn named Turn Timer, and would be letting any travelers stay.
Yet when the Doctor reluctantly stays in a room, they discover that some of the travelers have been seeing a hairless ape-like creature attacking residence, even Turn Timer who would have been attacked, saying that they just popped up a few months ago and he’s been trying to cover it up for business.
Soon, after the Doctor and Tick Tock (Sorry but I have to say this here, that name did NOT age well) go off without Derpy who does not quite trust Turn Timer because…. well I made the name reverse Time Turner for a reason. Yet both the Doctor and Tick Tock does not notice the clearly weird name, so that means duel plot! Yay!
Eventually the smart duo would figure out that these creatures are just human like Autons. Yet, since humans, or even humanoids, don’t exist in this universe, this is extremely odd (at least I think,  I still know jack about My Little Pony). Also Imagine this would lead into some funny jokes about how the Doctor needs to explain what the hell a human is, and I just imagine Tick Tock confused Autons being exactly like humans and not just modeled by them.
Meanwhile, Derpy would be grilling Turn Timer (Also again, only a Doctor Who fan but I can just imagine the Donna theme here and it makes me smile) and I Imagine that 70% of this second plot would be jokes. Until before the Auton realization, where Turn Timer makes the mistake of saying Doctor instead of Time Turner (Which I assume he would sign in as) and would be forced to knock out Derpy. Now, after they figure out the Autons are Autons, and the jokes are done, I’m guessing that Turn Timer would project some sort of communication hologram or magic thingy to the Doctor so they can have an exchange that goes along like this.
TuTi   “Hello Doctor! Sorry but i did not expect for your assistant to be able to see past my perception field.”
Doc    “ What did you do to Derpy Turn Timer?”
     TiTo “and what perception field?”
TuTi “ Oh don’t be daft, Doctor! I swear ever since you regenerated you have become so thick! you can’t even see what is so clearly obvious!  You only know one person who would know the correct configuration for a humanoid Auton, and be smart enough to do it! ”
Doc, in his serious voice, “ Who are you?”
TuTi, Outraged “Don’t act like you don’t know! We are best friends! The bestest of friends that have ever existed. Long before you started taking your pets onto your Tardis.  You know deep down, and you are running away from it! Like you ran away from your universe! Our Universe! I am tired of seeing your adventures in this world like you did not live in another.”
    TiTo “Who are you then?”
Doc, still serious “Don’t humor him”
TuTi “ Oh Doctor….Can’t even ask your own questions anymore can you? How far you have fallen from what you once were. You once could snap your fingers and make army’s turn and run away. Now you can’t even keep your pets (Companions) on a tight enough leash anymore.”
Doc “ Wait, fingers? how did you-”
TuTi “Oh now you are getting it. Finally, we are getting back the Doctor that counts. My Doctor, The Oncoming Storm! The Great Exterminator! The Destroyer of Skaro! And lastly, The Timelord Victorious!”
Doc panicked and angered yelling (Probably) “Who are you?”
TuTi “ Finally…. Well… I am the master of the house.. the Master! Of the house.”
That is where “Turn Timer” would end and go into “Pestering Past”, which would pick up with the Master finishing his evil monolog and him and Derpy being in some sort of cave with the Masters Tardis being rigged as a paradox machine. Derpy would probably be in some sort of status field but still being able to interact with the Master.
I am sure they would discuss why the Master was so obsessed with getting the Doctor to recognize him. The fact that in the Doctor Who universe,  The Master was so utterly empty without his “Best Friend” he could not stand to exist in a world without him, So he tracked the Doctor down, even through different universes just so he could have fun with his “Best Friend”.
Also probably  telling Derpy more about the Doctor than he has. And most likely telling stories about when the Doctor was very angry, and why he is the last of the timelords.  I thought this would be a very interesting thing to pop up later on, a Derpy is wondering if the Doctor is worth being around if they could do such a thing then turn around and say its horrid.
On the topside, I’m imagining the Doctor more scared and upset than seen in your audio plays. The fact that he came to a whole new universe, a place to make a new start and have less weight to carry, has been shattered by probably the only person that could have followed him. And to make it worse, it was someone who knows almost as much as the Doctor without his self control, and knowledge of his past life.
When the Doctor and the New Master meet face to face, I imagine it would be a battle of chaotic personalities on each side. Also, In my characterization of the Master, I think he would be sarcastically energetic to counteract the Doctors normal energetic craziness. Also, for the hell of it, let’s make the Master obsessed with pegasi instead of unicorns because narrative symbolism.
Lastly, we would learn that creatures that don’t belong in the world of My Little Pony (Cybermen and Terror are my best examples) where caused by the Masters Paradox machine. This gives a reason why they appeared and connects things in a neat little bow. Also gives a reason for Tick Tock to be mad too, due to the fact that the Master indirectly fueled the war he lost his family and time period for.
And that’s all I have. I don’t know how it would end except I think the Master would snatch Derpys Tardis key to use it to make something to keep tabs on the Tardis crew.
I’m sorry that half of this thank you and appreciation letter was more about my ideas than how I adore yours. Everyone on the PwPP crew to me is absolutely stellar! You all have made something truly amazing from a Doctor Who story telling standpoint. Lastly, please have fun making your audio plays or whatever you go on to do. It breaks my heart watching people create and have no fun in it.
With love and appreciation,
Raven.
We’re happy this show has brought you plenty of Doctor Who entertainment, even if you’re not an MLP fan. It’s always fun to learn about people who are generally a fan of one but not the other, who are still big fans of our series.
We aren’t really taking any ideas since we have a solid outline of what the rest of the episodes will be, and we can’t really reveal what characters might be appearing later. Your idea was a fun take on the Master though, perhaps consider writing a fanfic, as I’m sure people would enjoy it and we’ll be willing to post fanfics here.

Hola Mishamigos! It’s Friday and I am here with more nonsense from my SPN rewatch - dudes, we are all SLEEPING on Season 11, in both good and bad ways.  There is so much in just the first trifecta of “Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire;” “Form and Void;” and “Bad Seed” (since “Baby” deserves her own analysis) -  so come relive my rewatch with me.  This is a summary of some things that stood out for me (few are analysis, most are clowning; basically this is a pared down live tweet - you’re welcome/I'm sorry); copy/paste from the script is included with my own emphasis:
OUT OF THE DARKNESS INTO THE FIRE [11x01]
-There’s lots more to this episode, but really this is the most important and relevant part (also it’s too soon and I am offended, damaged, attacked and hurt) -
DEAN: Yeah, whoa. All right, take -- take it easy, okay?  (gesturing to the deputy’s wound) Bad guys?
JENNA: Rebar. I sought cover. I fell.
***LIKE EXCUSE ME, but what in the actual fuck.  Did they just decide to pull that from the episode four years later to emotionally traumatize us in the subsequent rewatches? I know it’s probably coincidence but my sad soul has not recovered *enough* for rebar’s first SPN appearance to be right now in this moment when I am blissfully 5 entire seasons away from the dead end in the road.
- The only other important part of this episode - when Dean takes the call from Cas privately first before putting it on speaker for Sam, and something about this exchange is so endearing-
(Dean’s phone rings)
DEAN: Where the hell are you, Cas?
(The scene flips between Sam and Dean at the hospital, and Castiel in the woods.)
CASTIEL: I'm...I'm okay.
DEAN: You don't sound okay.
CASTIEL: Dean, I am fine. Besides, what I have, you can't help me.
DEAN: What do you mean, what you have?
CASTIEL: Just please tell Sam -- Rowena escaped with the Book of the Damned and the codex.
DEAN: Okay, forget Rowena. Where are you?
CASTIEL: Now, you tell me -- the Mark . . .
DEAN: Oh, really? You're worried about me after everything that I’ve --
CASTIEL: Dean, is it gone?
DEAN: Yes. I'm good. I mean, I'm not great.
CASTIEL: Makes two of us.  (Dean puts Cas on speakerphone) This is good news.
SAM: Hey, Cas.
CASTIEL: Sam.
***It’s just so poignant that Dean wanted privacy for the first minutes of that call, probably because he is still haunted about the beating he gave Cas in 10 and *other things,* and Cas is literally being torn apart by Rowena’s curse but he only cares about Dean getting rid of the Mark, and the world is ending but Dean only cares about Cas and where he is -  honestly this scene - I’m -
***Further thoughts on the Animal Curse/Cas/Dean below under 11x03
FORM AND VOID [11x02]
(love the Genesis call back to this verse in the title - “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.”)
-speaking of emotional trauma, this fucking shit again -
JENNA: Yeah. I pretty much grew up here. Learned to ride my bike down the road. Had my first kiss at that blue house over there. Lost my virginity up there (pointing to different house).
DEAN: I'll bet blue house was pissed.
JENNA: She was. (handing Amara to Dean) Do you mind?
***This frustrated/disappointed/angered/saddened me to NO END despite already knowing that it happens constantly on the show, because what was the reason?! Did they have to point out that she had a female love interest for this brief moment just to turn her evil and kill her off?  There was no need to include this detail.  It’s either blatant homophobia or willful ignorance (so also blatant homophobia) that this is what representation means.  I won’t go on because obviously we are aware of this and much has already been said/written about it, but still, fuck this.
-we meet Billie and there is more “FORESHADOWING”-
QUEEN IS SINGING “OH DEATH” aka Death’s entrance song from Season 5 and I am BLOWN AWAY by this almost as much as her amazing voice - like did they know at this point she would become the new Death season later? DID THEY KNOW? I need answers.
Seriously, go listen to it immediately; bask in its glory:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFOm5i6b56o
We also get our first mention of the Empty, so that’s cute that they referenced both Dean’s and Cas’s Season 15 ‘demises’ in the same episode (it’s not cute really and I am crying again now) ->
BILLIE: You and Dean . . . Dying and coming back again and again. The old death thought it was funny. But now there's one hard, fast rule in this universe. What lives . . . dies. So the next time you or your brother bite it, well, you're not going to Heaven . . . Or Hell. One of us -- and, Lord, I hope it's me -- we're gonna make a mistake and toss you out into the Empty. And nothing comes back from that. I know you're dying. I can feel it. You're unclean in the biblical sense. So I'll be seeing you again, Sam . . . Seeing you real soon. Name's Billie, by the way.
-another reason for me to continue denying the flaming trash heap that they tried to call the series finale-
Sam is dying here because he has been infected by the Darkness-vein-animal-exploding-people-plague so he goes to pray about it
SAM: So . . . I know it's been a long time, but . . . Dean and I, we've -- we've been through a lot of bad. But this is different. This is my fault, and I don't know how to fix it. And if I have to die, I've made my peace with that, but . . . Please. Dean deserves better. Dean deserves a life. There are people out there, good people, who are going to suffer because of me, and I am not asking you to clean up my mess. Hell, I don't even know if you're out there, but . . . If you are . . . And if you can hear me, I, um . . . We need your help, God. We need to know there's hope. We need a sign.
**DABB WROTE THIS F-ING EPISODE.  How are you going to write Dean deserves a life here to just do what you did Dabb.  Don’t get me started on my feelings about this scene in the dark depths of my finale-denying soul.   DEAN DESERVES BETTER INDEED, SEASON 11 SAM.
To rub salt in this particular wound, they show us THE cutest scenes of Dean with this damn baby so we can have feelings about how great of a parent he could be (also I ADORE that whenever Jared, Jensen, or Misha have scenes in later seasons with young children/babies it is SO clear they slip into their own natural dad mode without even noticing it; these guys just all seem like excellent fathers and it makes me mushy) and even Crowley picks up on that shit and makes his little ex-boyfriend joke (after Demon Dean and most of season 10 there is no way I will ever NOT believe that Crowley and Dean did not take a tumble; I will take no criticism):
CROWLEY: The child likes you. No surprise, really. You're very maternal.
LIKE WHAT IS THIS:
Tumblr media
Speaking of King Jackles, next comes the episode he directed ->
BAD SEED [11x03]
-Cas/Dean parallels with the Attack Dog Spell/Mark of Cain-
This arc appears in the 10 finale and then runs through the first three episodes, culminating in this one.  Despite it hurting my heart to see our angel so bloody eyed and feral, I LOVED this parallel; it’s truly brilliant - Cas’s reaction to the attack dog spell is such a mirror to the way Dean dealt with the Mark most of 10.  It’s also beautiful that Dean is the only one that can pull Cas from the spell’s control at the end of this episode; that alley scene between the two of them in 11x02 is so tender and sweet.  I like to think this brought an entire new layer of depth to their connection, because no one truly understood how Dean felt under the influence of the Mark until now (someone write a fan fic about this exchange!!!!!!) I *love* this journey for them (please say that sentence in Alexis Rose in your head).  Bonus that  the episode containing my most favorite of *domestic* phone calls with Dean and Cas follows this one, and also Dean’s SHORT SHORTS follow because now he is just walking around the bunker in short shorts while Cas is there and I maintain this is because of this new level of closeness.  As previously stated I ACCEPT NO criticism.
ALSO OF COURSE THE FACE CUP THAT JENSEN HIMSEF DIRECTED HIMSELF TO DO.  I STAN A KING. I HEREBY DEMAND AT LEAST ONE FACE CUP PER EPISODE OF THE MINI SERIES JENSEN.
***I just saw something posted by @watchthebeesandfish back in 2015 when digging around the internet re: this episode - that this was the first time both Dean/Cas had seen each other as “themselves” since that heart wrenching bridge scene in 9x10, when Dean walks away from Sam/Cas after the Gadreel possession reveal (he goes on to take the Mark of Cain in the following episode, and has it the rest of the season through season 10 finale). That is brilliant and accurate and I BOW DOWN in humility to that parallel.  I now love this scene a billion times more. *single [wo]man tear*   Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed this little trip down memory lane, thanks as always for getting through my rambling,  and HAPPY FACE CUPPING FOREVER.

The evolution of Mon-El’s pessimism
Picking up a bit on what I said previously about Kara’s forgiveness of Mon-El.
I mentioned that I thought it was a fairly natural progression for Mon-El to feel "scared straight" and profusely grateful and appreciative of Kara's forgiveness. I wanted to elaborate on this a bit more.
I think that for all the claims that Mon-El acted entitled to Kara, I always thought that it was fairly obvious that Mon-El was pretty insecure and pessimistic about his relationship with Kara, but also about life in general and I want to talk about how this also affected his attitude towards heroism.
2x10
Once he realizes that he has feelings for Kara, he starts out thinking that there is no chance that Kara will ever return his feelings or that at the very least a very long shot. That is why he initially lies about having feelings for her and it's pretty much what he straight up says to her once he does confess his feelings.
Tumblr media
Mon-El: "I'm not here to change your mind. I get that... I get that you don't care about me."
Kara: "I do care about you."
Tumblr media
Mon-El: "But not in the same way. That's good, that's fine. It's okay. You know, just keep working with me. I've been honest about it, so let's just... Now we can ignore it, right? We can let it go. Let's put it behind us."
It can be argued that maybe Mon-El was at this point still hoping she would come around if he downplayed his feelings or that he was completely genuine in his cluelessness, but I do think it's still very obvious that at this point he thought that it was at the very least a long shot/not going to be easy, if he thought that it was possible at all.
2x13
After this, Kara eventually calls Mon-El up and tells him she does want a relationship. He is happy about it. Then Myxy arrives and Mon-El freaks out. I tend to read his attitude here as less than a guy who thinks like he already owns Kara, and more as a guy who is pissed that he was so close to getting what he wants with Kara and now is faced with the chance that it's going to be snatched away from right under his nose, when it was so close he could taste it. And he doesn't react well to that.
Still, to me the interesting aspect here is the nature of Kara's lie when she tries to convince Mon-El that she is going for Myxy.
Kara:  Yes, I've thought about it, and you're right. You're gifted, brilliant, and together we can do anything. Take me as your wife.
And:
Tumblr media
Kara:  He makes an excellent point. He has limitless power that he can use to help me fight for justice. We'll make a great team.
Tumblr media
Mon-El: I thought we were going to do that.
This is what she had to say to make it believable. Just saying she did it save Mon-El’s life would just get Mon-El to fight harder to save her. Saying she loves Myxy immediately wouldn’t seem believable. But this? Sounds totally legit to Mon-El.
I read this scene, this episode as an indication that there was at least part of Mon-El who thought or worried that the only reason why Kara sees potential in him is because of his powers. And that he worries that if somebody with bigger powers come along, Kara will see even more potential in them. Greater powers means that if turned to good, they can be an even bigger hero, can achieve even more good in the universe. And it makes just sense to him that Kara would want to optimize what creates the most good. Showing to me that maybe part of him thought Kara cares about his powers and not him as a person.
The other noteworthy moment of this episode is how Mon-El seems genuinely stunned that it was possible to resolve the situation they found themselves in without violence.
2x14
Tumblr media
A lot of things could be said about this episode, but I'm going to mostly skip it for now. I'm just going to see that Mon-El's insecurity about how exactly he fits into Kara's life, his pessimism about people and life, him feeling like he needs to be useful to Kara somehow and again him struggling with the concept that he can be more helpful without aggression/violence are all very much present here.
Mon-El: So, what’s left for me?
2x16 + crossover
Mon-El's secret is outed, he makes last ditch efforts to win Kara back. He rejects his parents and reaffirms his intention to carry on some of the things Kara has taught him even when they are not together.
Tumblr media
At the end of the crossover Kara forgives a distraught Mon-El and he vows to be good.
2x17
Here the most noteworthy thing is that once again Mon-El is deeply pessimistic that his mother is reachable, while Kara is optimistic. They eventually go with Kara's plan, leading to Mon-El being taken.
The most striking thing here is Mon-El's surprise/gratitude that Kara came to save him. Something that has to be considered in relation to Mon-El's sacrifice. Naturally, him surrendering to his mother to stop her from attacking Kara with Kryptonite is more meaningful if he really believed that he wasn't coming back.
Tumblr media
Mon-El: You came after me.
Tumblr media
We also see Mon-El for the first time applying Kara's lessons, not just in following her plan, but also in trying to Kara-speech his father.
Let's quickly recap Mon-El's surprises again:
Mon-El surprised that Kara can resolve the situation with Myxy without violence (2x13)
Mon-El surprised by Winn's assurance that he is more helpful being there for Kara than trying to fight her battles and actually trying that out (2x14)
Mon-El surprised and grateful that Kara forgave him (crossover)
Mon-El surprised Kara came for him (2x17)
Mon-El surprised that using Kara's methods were actually successful in reaching his father's heart (2x17)
In my mind, 2x17 was in many ways the culmination of Mon-El’s hero arc, as far as his journey towards learning to believe in heroism is concerned. He used to be doubtful, but this is where he truly accepts it.
And this is echoed by Kara meeting him there, by calling him brave, apologzing and acknowledging that he was right (” And I'm sorry I forced you to talk to your mom. I should have listened to you.”) and by giving him full credit for the save:
Tumblr media
Kara:  I'm not going to forget the way you sacrificed yourself for me. Ever.
Tumblr media
Mon-El:  So we saved each other today.
I want to quote two more significant statements from that conversation:
Mon-El: you were right to be hopeful. I think we could all stand to be a little more like you. More optimistic and brave.(because Mon-El despite his upbeat attitude actually was often a pessimist in regards to what to expect out of people)
and
Mon.El:  You believe that people can change and you gave them a chance to do it. (because that’s what Kara did for him)
After that point, after seeing for himself that Kara's methods can be successful even when he was sure it wasn't possible, Mon-El is essentially won over to Kara's way of thinking and for the rest of the season we mostly see him trying to be a supportive boyfriend and applying the things Kara taught him, such as following Kara's orders and letting her go into battle alone (when Kara sends him away to confront Rhea after saving Mon-El and Lena) or being open to her about his feelings/worries (when he tells her that he thought he saw his mother in the street) or by just being there for her ("Better now")
This is not to say that Mon-El's journey towards herodom started with 2x13, there certainly were meaningful moments before that. Not limited to:
Mon-El being shamed by Alex reading him the riot act and by seeing how badly Kara got injured by Parasite, spurring him to try and confront Parasite.
Mon-El trying to help a homeless person and getting abducted for his troubles.
Mon-El seeing Kara submitting herself to Lillian Luthor's experiments to protect Mon-El and most certainly not wanting her to do it.
Mon-El experimenting with putting himself in harms way on Slaver's Moon and his admiring look when Kara heroes out.
The argument they had about protecting Kara versus protecting civilians.
Still, I feel his reaction in 2x13 is when we see him becoming a lot more emotional open and persuaded by her ideas and her world view, mostly because he sees them being put to work and actually succeeding.

Charmed 02x18 Review SPOILERS!!!
Alright Y’all! Since there is no new episode of Charmed tonight I thought I would just post my review up today to make up for the lack of an episode. I’ve been saving my 10/10 for this moment!!! Honestly though 10/10. I was extremely entertained through the episode. I thought it was beautifully directed by Rupert. I thought everyone gave great performances including more sidelined characters (usually including Mel which i don’t like but since it has been a standard this season doesn’t affect my overall rating).  Standard format. Likes. Dislikes. Then episode highlights.
LIKES
1. Hacy Kiss Moment
Y’all knew this was going to be the first thing I mentioned. Damn! Listen however you feel about the handling/mishandling of the Hacy story-line you can’t deny this was one of the best kiss/confession moments ever. Macy is in control. They are just soaking up the moment. The smile of realization and joy on Harry’s face when Macy just takes command and asks him to get his butt over there and dance. The slow walk towards her and their dance mimicking the jimmy x macy scenes yet showing how different in feeling they are. That laugh of joy and hugging moment at the end. Y’all!!! I can’t! Story wise, It is so nice to see macy and harry have a moment of joy. In many ways they have been put through the wringer so much in both seasons, so to get some fluff. Beautiful.
2. Maggie, Mel, and Ray
Okay so I wish this storyline would have been distributed more evenly across the season, but I don’t feel this storyline came out of nowhere and it addresses so many things that I feel were worth exploring. Firstly, Maggie’s panic attacks. I do wish we would have had hints of them earlier, but other than that I felt this made a lot of sense. Maggie and Ray mended part of their relationship, but it wasn’t until after he left that she found out he knew the whole time that he wasn’t her biological father and she seemed upset by that information, although it got sidelined because of the situation they were in. While I know people think Maggie’s storylines are always about guys. I believe it has always been about growing up and to an extent being abandoned. Season 1, Maggie dealt with her sister not trusting her or at least not always telling her everything and treating her like a child. This season especially Maggie has been openly fighting against the way she feels Mel and others infantalize her and view the way she thinks. Yes especially when it comes to relationships, but not limited to that. Stretching back to 01x17, Maggie’s greatest desire is a love that will never leave. And it isn’t just romantic love. When fighting with Mel she straight up says that demon can give her “what Dad, Parker, and Harry could never give her: a love that will never leave.” In 02x15, Jordan treats maggie like a child and then when she asks him if he really is going to leave her, he says “that’s what men do”. Which to me isn’t necessarily about romance given that the only people who have stuck around in Maggie’s life are primarily women, even harry was gone for a bit.
So you have these “conflicting” thoughts in Maggie. She is trusting, wants to see the good in people, and believes she is an adult with something to contribute. But then you also get the other part showing that, she actually fears people are exactly what they have been in the past (that is that people will leave or that they cannot change, or that in then end it doesn’t change anything for her).
So with that, she then finds out that Ray and Mel have been improving thier relationship and she doesn’t know anything about it on top of the fact she is sore about him never telling her about her parentage. In these last few episodes we’ve seen her try to take charge and be proactive in a way she hasn’t been before, which is good, but you wonder how much of that is suppression of her feelings. What is she “sacrificing” to become the “adult” she thinks she needs to be? In sum, Panic attacks made sense for her story and I thought Sarah did a brilliant job acting. Her last conversation with Ray had me in tears!
So for Mel and Ray in this, they had small roles, but Mel’s growth was amazing. For one, I really do wish there was more than like one or two references to chuchi after the first time her and her dad went on a mission together. more consistent small comments about ray sendings information of checking things out would have been nice to have more understanding of Mel expanding/healing relationship with her father. But moving on. Mel this season has taken a back seat and I hate that, but with the small character developing moments they have given us . . . I think that moment where Mel is looking in on Ray and Maggie having their conversation and walks away is the second best one this season in terms of development. Mel has admitted to always trying to be the person she thinks she needs to be. She basically said the same thing last season when she dropped out of her Master’s program. She is always trying to be this protector but at the same time wants to be able to let go of the wheel. Mel looking in probably to make sure she was okay was in character, but that moment where she nods and walks away able to realize that in this case Maggie doesn’t need her. This isn’t her “fight” or moment, and her being comfortable enough to walk away and trust that “it’s all good”. I feel old Mel would have wanted in, wanted to explain herself and defend her reasons for keeping that info on the DL, or would have stayed by the door just in case Maggie would need her at some point. But she trust both of them. Which I feel is huge! Anyways when they do little things like that which make sense I love it and just wish they had more moments like that spread out this season rather than some of the other stuff they tried.
3. Marisol, Macy, and Harry meeting
Heart broken! but I loved it. I love that Macy did get to meet her mom, especially since lots of people in the fandom complained about how unfair it was that Macy was the only one to never get to really meet her mom. I didn’t care about personally, I like a little bit of bittersweetness so I didn’t mind. This scene was all about the bitter sweetness. Marisol getting to meet and talk to macy but not actually see her. Macy having to have her memory altered to forget the meeting, but still internalize that advice. Although now I wonder if that friend Macy spoke about in season one was actually herself and her mind just making up a new person to make up for the erased memories. More likely than not she really was just super serious and restrained, but then went crazy (like many do) in college and just started to shed off that restraint then her powers came in and they had to back that up.
There is a tragedy in macy and her mothers situation. I don’t think this scene took away from that, but at the same time it added a new dimension to Marisol. Marisol definitely earned her Elder role.
I loved how Harry in that moment. He explained what he was going to do, as best as he could without freaking her out (he was told to be gentle with her), I like how he shifts strategies when he sees her flinch away. He was being as clinical as could be before that, but when she flinches in fright, he gets personal “It will be okay” “I’d never do anything to hurt you, you have my word”. his movements were slower the second time around. And although she wasn’t going to remember his name, he still took that moment to tell her what it was. it was sweet. The background music was a bit off to me at first, but other than that it was great.
4. Jordan
Every episode he is in I fall more in love with Jordan Chase. He is this seasons Harry. Harry season one was that way for me, but now it’s jordan. I love how he is open with Maggie and although she doesn’t want to hear it he tries to be as gentle as he can while explaining panic attacks. Then him with James! I love these guys together Rupert and Jordan are just so good in scenes together.
DISLIKES
1. James
This is a huge nitpick. and I don’t really dislike it...I am just wanting the writers to make up their minds. So Jimmy and Harry, supposedly make up James. Jimmy has the old memories, but harry’s were erased? I thought the mind meld was showing that Jimmy still remembered but Harry had access to those memories because they shared that link. But now, apparently, Harry with no magic and no memories of being Harry is James with James’s memories....
Okay so if harry is equally as much of James as jimmy and Harry is a product of the new experiences and memories he made, then why is jimmy necessary? Like how is it that one cannot survive the other if they seem to be equally the “old” person as before. Because that means that jimmy isn’t necessarily inherently evil or less James and his faults than harry. He is a product of his experiences and memories which are of being locked up in a bottle without a body. Like I just want some real clarification, which I assume will be given next episode, but I wish we would have had more info through out the season.
2. Julian is not that smart
@slowlyandrogynousmiracle mentioned it in her podcast, but I was also blown away by the fact Julian didn’t seem to make it make sense that there was something up with Macy and Maggie. Mijo! They literally disappeared at the same time that your testing room was broken into. Macy was down there just moments before she disappeared. Did your Aunt not tell you what happened?
Also, I still don’t know what exactly Julian’s game is. That is I was sure before that he knew, but that he probably had other plans than what we all were assuming, or that Aunt Viv has different plans than Julian. This episode didn’t clarify anything, at least to me, again I expect that the next episode will do that, but I didn’t think this Julian moment added anything new other than expose the charmed ones to him.
EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS
1. James refusing to be held captive by a couple of “girls”. Reminding me of Harry’s first interaction with the trio.
Tumblr media
2. James asking Macy about what she and Harry were. That cocky “what?” I might have issues.
Tumblr media
3. Maggie’s rage and new power
Tumblr media
4. Ray saying that it didn’t matter to him that Maggie wasn’t his bio daughter. “The truth is . . . I love you too damn much.”
Tumblr media
5. Jordan pulling out that scalpel and saying he needs to cut that chip out of Harry.

6. That LAST SCENE

i’m watching 10.21!!! [insert excited but apprehensive noises]!!!
by the time you’re reading this i’ll be done watching, so as always, thoughts under the cut:
i opened up the episode, steve’s voice said “previously on ha-” and i paused it because i actually need some food before i do anything right now.
food (and coffee that is 90% milk) acquired! the previously on is just the last few seconds of the previous episode, and oof, it reminded me how hilariously evil this micheal claypool sounded with that intense british accent they gave him (surprise twist: the h50 finale is actually the new bond movie), but now he just showed up on steve’s doorstep and he looks like a really kind somewhat older man, gosh.
steve: “please uh, come on in and make yourself at home.” danny, wherever he is right now: “NINE YEARS. I HAD TO WAIT NINE YEARS AND THIS GUY JUST SHOWS UP AND-”
mr. claypool comes in, sits down, hands a still standing steve a letter and then gathers his coat and briefcase and is immediately back out the door, fdjkfd. also, omfg, i don’t like that doris is still causing drama from the grave, but i have to say, it’s impeccably in character, at least.
steve looks a little disbelieving and unhappy about the contents of the letter, which is not great. it couldn’t have been just a nice “hello my son, sorry you’ve had to live without me for these past four months, i wanted to tell you one last time that i love you and hope you’re doing well”, could it? (for that matter, does mary get a letter??? it always feels like mary either got out in time by not going into anything like law enforcement and therefore not getting pulled into her family legacy of dangerous shit all the time, or like she’s just been outright rejected by their parents who keep building all of their mysteries around steve.)
okay so now we’re watching a woman and her son being held hostage by two criminals who probably killed a cop and want her to stitch one of them up, and obviously they’re bad guys, but one of them just said “think bus boy’s got a thing for you” about the dude who just rang the doorbell and hand delivered a toy the kid had forgotten at a diner and yes!!! i agree!!! and it looked super cute so maybe you could just put your guns away and let them fumble around each other for a little before one of them finally asks the other out on a date and then they end up as a really cute little family.
oh SHIT crush guy just burst into the apartment and really, really seems to know his way around a gun and how to hold his own in a fight against armed criminals. oh! ohhhh, this is the new character they were going to introduce that would potentially have become a cast member if the show had continued without steve, isn’t it? ahhh. that makes sense.
while the woman calls the police, crush guy (who heroically saved her and her son and got shot in the process) just. leaves. that’s not suspicious at all!
the intro!!! feelings!!!
we’re at the cemetary where john mcgarrett rests so i expected to be shown steve, but instead we get?? danny rolling up in the camaro to look at steve crouched by the grave? oh my gosh. ten times better.
danny is SO WORRIED. and he is RIGHT because steve is acting very unlike steve.
fdjkfdjk OF COURSE doris’s message is a bunch of symbols. doris!!! you do not write goodbye messages to your son in wingdings!!! be a good mother for maybe once, perhaps, my gosh!!!
!!!!! steve telling danny he just doesn’t think he really cares anymore and wants to be done with doris’s whole thing is !!!!! very good!!!! i am using too many exclamation points and very aware of it but !!!!!!
i just. look. i just. steve has SAD FEELINGS and he TALKS ABOUT THEM with DANNY and this is pretty much a dream come true. YES. not the sad feelings, i’d rather have happy feelings, but after everything these characters have gone through they need to acknowledge that there are sad feelings before happy feelings can be had.
also, omfg, i had a brief heart attack because steve says joe’s name but he says it with an abandoned “and” kind of tacked onto it, a little mumbly, so it sounds like “losing joe’n- and mom” and for a long moment i was like, losing joan?? what?? because that would not be okay, holy shit, no.
on a lighter note, steve: “i’ll drive.” what a suprise!!! truly a shocking turn of events. :p
yes, steve, antagonize the scary-looking dude who is grieving over his dead brother while standing over the dead brother’s body in the morgue. i’m sure that’s a brilliant plan.
wait what, we suddenly see adam and junior who are talking on the phone because junior called adam to give him an update, and then adam goes, right, but the bad guys don’t know the address yet, and we do! and it turns out he is. standing in the apartment both parties are looking for right at that second. uh. communication, adam, dear lord.
there is some team organizing in hq around the case and then they all disperse and danny looks ready to follow steve into his office but then he gets distracted by tani asking to talk to him for a minute, and then they go out onto a BALCONY that i don’t remember ever having seen before? omg. secret headquarters balcony.
tani asks about steve!! she is worried too!! i’m forgetting about the balcony betrayal and having intense feelings again.
fdjkfd danny tells tani that steve has been running non-stop and is getting burned out and tani asks “alright, well, what are we gonna do about it?” and with absolutely zero hesitation danny goes “i’m gonna force the issue.” i don’t even think that’s a bad plan per se! but the quick and determined way he says it has me laughing anyway, like danny’s been daydreaming while the team was talking about their case and thinking, hm, what can i do to help steve? i know! i’m going to push him in a corner and keep him there and make him FEEL his FEELINGS. danny’s solution here is to throw a grenade at steve, but like, one full of love and caring and hopefully pancakes.
danny is telling tani that he’s seriously concerned about steve’s functioning on the job at the moment and meanwhile steve is out with junior interviewing a guy with an axe. fdjkfd.
okay so steve and junior catch the bus boy crush heroic rescuer guy (whose name is cole) and he won’t talk, and then junior arrives back at hq and tani comes out of her office to talk about steve again, ahhh. she is so worried! and junior is extremely uncomfortable because he feels like he has to defend steve and he ends up saying that steve will deal with things in his own way and oh junior, no, sometimes being hurt and pushing it away is not the best thing. even MORE reasons why steve needs to work through this in a healthy way: he’s setting a very destructive example for junior.
meanwhile steve is chilling on the floor of their rendition room “interviewing” cole all on his own, which seems to boil down to psychoanalyzing cole in a way that sounds suspiciously like steve’s pulling apart pieces of his own mind but attributing all of the problems to cole because that’s way safer than admitting that maybe most of these are his own issues, too, that he’s giving voice to for probably the first time ever.
steve to himself cole: “you’ve been here in this hole since [name of place where tragedy happened]. you‘ve put yourself there.” SUBTLE.
fdjkfd i paused at the perfect moment because immediately after that sentence cole goes “you know, something tells me i could say damn near the same thing about you” and uh, yes. thank you for making my point in-universe, cole, gosh.
steve: [gives a hard stare for a second and then switches back to cole’s current situation without addressing cole’s comment at all]
ahhhh there is a shot that starts with lou, tani and quinn around the tech table analyzing a video that shows our Bad Guys of the moment holding the poor diner lady and her kid hostage (again!) and then moves smoothly through steve’s glass door into his office where he and danny are having a heated discussion about the case and twirls around them. that was very cool!
so the bad guys want cole or they won’t release their hostages, cole wants to do it, danny wants him to do it and convinces steve after multiple little scenes of them disagreeing about it, and then military police comes in and takes cole away, preventing them from actually carrying out their plan. oops!
and THEN cole escapes out of a vehicle with three men guarding him, hah. i’m definitely seeing the heavy handed parallels with steve they’re throwing at us, omg.
danny about cole to steve: “i think this guy might be crazier than you.” i kind of love that every time a new intended team member shows up (tani, junior, i'm pretty sure quinn too?), danny has to compare them to steve in some way. it’s a rule. every time anyone says something vaguely snarky steve physically can’t stop himself from saying “ah, did you know you sound just like danny williams?” and every time someone does something ill-advised yet heroic, danny is obligated by the universe and the wiring of his own heart to go “ugh, you remind me of steve.”
cole gets a pass because he did good stuff and is a war hero, steve and cole make friends, and then cole says he noticed the cypher on steve’s desk and we’re back to the thing i thought this episode would focus on way more heavily.
steve HAS been doing research to try to crack it! danny was right about steve not being able to let this go.
cole knows a guy who’s good at cracking codes! i guess that’s a neat way to connect him to steve’s finale plot and move it along at the same time, haha.
steve is still at the office when his phone rings and it’s danny and then steve walks onto his beach where danny is waiting for him in their two chairs with two beers, and i love that, especially because we don’t hear danny’s side of the phone conversation but it was a very short scene so what did he say, exactly? “come home, i’m lonely, i have beer”?
steve: “what’s the face, you got a face on, your face” fdjkfd. eloquent!
SCREAMING. “you think lincoln is my new bff? yo, no one can replace you, you’re my danno!” i am. oh my gosh. this is steve reassuring HIMSELF, not danny, but it is also incredibly sweet and YOU’RE MY DANNO. now THAT’S the kind of content i want. yes. good. holy shit.
danny says to stop doing “that”, by which he means deflecting, and steve just goes “okay” and looks uncomfortable but starts talking anyway and i LOVE THEM. this is a good, healthy friendship.
steve: “i kinda feel like i’ve been protecting everybody except for myself, does that make sense?” YES. YES, STEVE, IT DOES, and i am VERY GLAD you’re saying those words with your own mouth.
i am making very high pitched noises at the moment. a) steve says he can’t take a break “here” because there are too many memories and that SCARES ME because he SHOULD NOT LEAVE THE ISLAND but also really really validates a fic idea i’ve had for ages in a way that i love, b) steve says “i will say this is how i thought it would end for us, couple old guys, sitting on a beach, watching sunsets” and YES oh my gosh, and c) then DANNY GOES, “i mean that sounds great to me, we can still do that” and HELLO YES it is SO GOOD to hear them VOICE these things that they’ve obviously both wanted for literal years and which we’ve been shown through steve’s clinginess when danny wanted to retire and danny’s bringing steve in on the restaurant thing and danny’s literal dream of him and steve sitting on that very beach as old men with steve telling him he loves him. just, my gosh, this is all those things but put into words that they are saying and it is very validating and sweet and necessary and scares me very much about where this is going, but for the moment i adore it.
the episode has two and a half minutes left and i’m kind of feeling like this is enough. let’s just end it here. happy end, guys, let’s all go home! except steve and danny, who are already there, obviously, and should do the opposite of move, ever.
OH. OHHH. steve tells danny he doesn’t know anymore and danny looks sad and then steve continues about how he’s been trying to distract himself with stuff like “a bunch of dating, which was nice, but didn’t help” and the RESTAURANT gets a mention though i’ll admit it’s one that’s very confusing because steve says “when it closed”, which... it didn’t, as far as we had been told until now? isn’t kamekona still running it? i always assumed he’d have turned it into a very successful bussiness venture.
danny looks UNHAPPY ABOUT THINGS STEVE IS SAYING and i relate, while i’m at the same time weirdly very very proud of him for saying these things? i don’t want him to feel this unsure about everything (particularly whether he can stay in hawaii, because it seems that’s what he’s talking about and that’s Bad), but it is a needed breath of fresh air to have stuff that happened and that he’s been bottling up for ages actually impact him emotionally.
okay, fjdksfdjslfs, danny suggests steve should GO TO JERSEY and says that steve has NEVER BEEN and i get that this is mostly kind of a joke but actually YES, STEVE. GO THE FUCK TO JERSEY. that would be perfect! danny can subtly follow you under the guise of an extended visit to family and you can spend time there together exploring danny’s home state instead of steve’s and you can come back home to hawaii when you’re ready and it would be beautiful and a very nice, symbolic way to end the show. we start with danny moving to hawaii to find a home there, and we end with with steve moving to jersey to realize where his home is.
this argument though, it’s giving me life. steve when danny starts suggesting other places, angrily, for no good reason: “now i HAVE to go.” danny, both giving and getting up: “i’m gonna get another beer.” steve, calm again: “okay, i’m gonna go to jersey.” danny: [walks away while steve yells after him about all the recommendations he’ll need for when he’s in jersey]
danny is inside to get the beer, hears a noise, finds a burglar at steve’s desk, fights him, destroy half the living room and is found by steve who also heard noise from the house and suddenly keeps saying “yo” to danny a lot this episode.
of course the burglar was there for the cypher that doris sent steve, because she can never just pop up in steve’s life in a way that isn’t  somehow dangerous to him and everyone around him. it was good, though!!! a very nice cliffhanger.
final thoughts: VERY GOOD, VERY INTENSE EPISODE. i liked cole more than i expected for a character that gets introduced as potential main cast in the last two episodes of a show that’s by now already been cancelled (that could have been problematic, but i think the writers handled it well by brick-to-the-face using him to explore steve’s issues) and i love danny being so worried about steve and tani following his lead and wanting to talk to everyone close to steve about how worried she is, too, and everything steve says has ME worried about how they’re going to end this, but so far, it’s also amazing A+ perfect fanfic fuel, holy effing shit. EMOTIONS. FEELINGS. STEVE HAS THEM. it’s literally that easy to please me, fdjkfd.
and i will say that while i’m worried about him and he’s clearly hurting and there are ways the show could take this that i won’t like (steve leaving the island at the end of the show while danny stays, mainly, which would be kind of horrible in all kinds of ways), i do somewhat love seeing steve deal with the fact that he’s older than he was ten years ago, he’s never really worked through all of the incredibly horrible shit life kept heaping on him, and he’s just getting really damn tired of everything. old, tired steve is a good thing; it’s the start of a new chapter, one where he hopefully doesn’t keep clinging to that endless denial of hurt and his tendency to put the job above everything including his own mental and physical health. i just hope, hope, hope that this last chapter that we actually get to watch play out on screen will be one that ends in a place that feels right, because this could either end perfectly or so, so badly. 🤞

The Untamed/陈情令 Rewatch, Episode 2 (spoilers for everything)
(covers MDZS chaps 6 - 10 and a bit of 13)
WangXian meter: 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰
(a 🐰 is earned every time there is a WangXian scene or even when they’re just thinking of each other)
I always tell people when I’m trying to get them to watch The Untamed that when they get to this particular scene in the second episode, they’ll know if they will be into the show. To me, this is the game-changer moment: you’re either in or out after this. If this scene doesn’t emotionally move you enough to at least continue on with the drama, nothing else will.  It is seriously one of the most romantic scenes I have ever seen captured on screen. This was the moment that made me realize not only was I now fully committed to CQL, but that I had also found a new obsession and was ready to devote myself to Mo Dao Zu Shi.  After all, something that can lead to the creation of such a beautiful scene MUST hold other invaluable treasures. So into the MDZS rabbit hole I went, happily diving head first.
Tumblr media
Even now I’m still amazed that this scene exists in the intact form that it does. I started The Untamed with little to no expectations, especially knowing the restrictions it was under AND having just finished Guardian and experiencing how poor creative decisions can arise due to censorship (or at least, using that as an excuse for their dumb story choices). As I mentioned previously, the first episode was a hard sell since they definitely did not put their best foot forward first, but I liked Xiao Zhan immediately and Wei Wuxian as a character was interesting enough that I wanted to learn more about his past that led to his death and rebirth. The small glimpses we saw of his relationship with Lan Zhan also fascinated me, but then with this second episode, the weak points of the pilot still remained: there was still bad CGI (the statue) and very amateurish technical mistakes (in the recognition scene, at one point, in a close-up shot they’re holding onto each other, but in the next far away backside shot they’re clearly standing apart from each other, only to return to holding each other once again once the camera cuts back to a close-up...whoever the editor is on CQL probably should dunk their head in the toilet every time these editing errors pop up) that made my initial viewing of this episode a frustrating one for most of its runtime. I think I spent most of my initial viewing just distracted, playing on my phone or something, until the big WangXian moment happened and then I was shocked and awed.  I know I wasn’t paying close attention that first time because when I rewatched the episode later on, I realized I missed a lot of dialogue and details. I have since revisited this second episode numerous times more, and I do feel bad about how dismissive I was initially. It’s a pretty loaded episode: it has funny, poignant, creepy, mysterious, and cool moments while still feeding us bits of the overarching plot. I definitely have developed an affection for it since my first viewing and it’s become one of my favorite episodes in the series.
Of Pining & other Heart-achy Things
Tumblr media
This simple line from Jiang Cheng is enough to make my eyes well up with tears: I can’t help but imagine Lan Zhan traveling around the world for sixteen years, most likely all alone, stopping at different places to play Inquiry, fervently hoping that maybe one day he’ll finally receive an answering chord from Wei Ying, only to be confronted by a deafening silence again and again and again. How utterly sad and disappointed he must have been every time, and yet still, he never gave up and just went to the next location to do the same thing and experience the same heavy disappointment all over again. If that doesn’t make your heart ache, I’m sorry to tell you, your heart is no longer functional.
Tumblr media
It’s a detail I don’t remember if the novel covered, but I’m assuming that Lan Zhan was the one to bring Wei Ying’s inventions like the spirit attraction flag and the compass back to Gusu and incorporate them for use in his sect’s normal cultivation practices.  I know other people have use his tools as well since that nameless cultivator at the start of the episode was also using the spirit compass, but I feel that with Lan Wangji, he probably purposefully acquired and adapted WWX’s techniques so that every time they’re used, they can serve as a reminder of Wei Ying for him. Though it does make me wonder how Lan Zhan managed to get those approved by his uncle; I can’t imagine Lan Qiren being ok with using anything that was created by the man whom he blames for the corruption of his beloved nephew and model student. Did LWJ just pretend he created them instead? That doesn’t even sound right. Maybe Uncle Lan decided to be merciful and just let Lan Zhan win this one since he was probably obviously miserable after Wei Ying’s death.   Yeah, I can buy that scenario, especially since the flag and compass are pretty useful tools.
Tumblr media
I wondered did LWJ already suspect “Mo Xuanyu” was Wei Ying before he started playing Wuji on his flute. It’s curious that he happened to be in that part of the forest at that time. I’m guessing his Wei Ying senses were tingled when he heard about Mo Xuanyu’s skills from Sizhui and the boys so that’s why he was hanging around the vicinity just in case MXY reveals his true identity. After waiting 16 years for this reunion, it’s no wonder Lan Zhan had no qualms about holding onto WWX’s wrist in public for much longer than socially appropriate.
Tumblr media
I actually get a little emotional every time I rewatch this episode and watch Jin Ling display his mad archery skills because I would always think of how much he takes after his dad. His parents would’ve been so proud to see him all grown up like this; Shijie would’ve been so happy she probably would get teary-eyed as well every time she saw her boy in action. Sure, he’s a spoiled little princess, but he is also a pretty skilled princess with a heart of gold and I just wish they had more time together as a family.
Tumblr media
They looked so happy, look at all those smiles. It really makes me so sad that Wei Ying will probably never be able to hug JC like that again, and of course he’ll never be able to hug Shijie period. Great now I want to cry again.
Lan Jingyi Appreciation Section
Tumblr media
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this precious boy by name so far, so I wanted to take this opportunity to show him some much deserved love. Lan Jingyi with his resting bitch face and steady stream of snark was really the MVP of this episode. He actually made me laugh out loud a few times...in fact, he almost always makes me laugh as soon as he scrunches up his face like he’s smelling something bad. I recently saw someone mention that he’s really the most un-Lan of the Lans (sorry, I forgot who posted that so I apologies for not giving proper credit) and that is really the perfect description of him. I love this kid as much as I love Sizhui and Jin Ling, and I am also sincerely fascinated by him. I mean, who raised him in the Gusu Lan sect? Cuz I cannot imagine Lan Qiren being the one since Jingyi undoubtedly would’ve had all his snark driven out of him at an early age. Hell, the amount of disciplinary action he probably had to have gone through would’ve probably killed him at a young age.  Did he join the sect when he was already fully formed so that’s why he’s still breaking Lan sect rules right and left? He threatened an old man and is like rude to everyone. I don’t know all 3000 rules but I’m pretty sure being mean to the elderly and insulting to supposedly mentally unstable people are probably not allowed. If anything, his disposition would make him more suitable for the Lanling Jin sect and yet he’s with the stuffy Lans. WHY? I could watch a whole spin-off series with just him and the other juniors as long as we get to learn about how he came to be with the Gusu Lan sect. He’s hilarious and adorable, and among the many the reasons why I wish we had more episodes for the present-day arc, one of them is because I wanted to spend more time with the juniors, especially Lan Jingyi, even if it meant the screenwriters would’ve had to go off book and create new scenes for them. It would’ve been well worth it to hear LJY throw more shade at people.
Random Bits of Randomness
Tumblr media
It’s kinda crazy how WWX just stood there with his back turned, oblivious to Jin Ling’s attack. If Lan Zhan’s blade hadn’t blocked JL’s sword, that would’ve been the end of our main protagonist. I just thought that was such an odd scene...I would’ve felt just a little better if Wei Ying had at least had a little more awareness that an attack was heading for him and made some attempt to get out of the way.
Tumblr media
Ugh, that mask. First of all it’s ugly AF, and secondly it’s so freaking ill-fitting it was distracting. Would’ve been nice if the production team gave him a mask that actually fit his face. I mean, did it HAVE to be THAT damn big? I’m amazed they don’t have bts clips of Xiao Zhan tripping and hurting himself because the stupid mask blocked his vision.
Tumblr media
Other than being a brilliant mastermind and Oscar-worthy actor, Nie Huaisang has got to be one of the greatest cultivators if not THE greatest cultivator of all time to be able to conjure up an illusion like that. That thing was doing real damage to people. If it was just a phantom, what the heck was holding up those two cultivators in midair like that? And what kicked Jin Ling around? I know Wei Ying was able to drive people crazy with his flute during his Yiling Patriarch phase, but his handiwork still felt more grounded and reasonable than this.
Questions I still have (please feel free to answer them):
- Who was that old man at the grave? Someone NHS paid to just hang around the graves until the juniors and WWX came by?
- So NHS basically fucked up Yan’s entire family and God knows how many other people just to get WWX to eventually play his flute to lure Wen Ning out from wherever he was hiding?
- How did JGY not know Wen Ning escaped? Or did he just leave those details to Xue Yang so he didn’t really care about what happened to Wen Ning?  I’m trying if this was addressed in the book but my mind is coming up empty. I don’t think it was brought up in the show though, or I just completely missed it.
Overall Episode Rating: 9 Lil Apples out of 10

"I'm Sorry, Kat!"
Friday 30th October 2020
Hello again everyone! I hope you're having an enjoyable week so far! I am back with another post following Friday's episode, during this week I'm going to try my absolute best to catch up. It may take a while but I want to thank you all for being so patient with me, I'll either do one post a day or I'll see if I can manage two post in one day, we shall see! But let's jump right in with Friday's episode!
The episode starts with Honey, after being found by Jay in the alley after being attacked, Jay is sat by her bedside in hospital. This is quite a sad scene to start off with I have to say, Honey can barely remember anything, she wakes to see Jay sat closely beside her. She can't seem to understand how she's ended up in hospital, she remembers being with Paul but she can't remember what events took place. She looks to Jay for some answers but he looks as if he can't find the words to tell her what he's saw. He informs, gently, that she left him a voicemail which left him concerned as she sounded drunk. He explains he went to check on her, just to make sure she was okay, but on his search he found Paul in alleyway taking pictures of her, and before he made a run for it, he was either unbuckling his belt or doing it up! As far as I could tell, he was unbuckling his belt - of course the main worry and fear in their mind is if they don't know for sure whether he's actually raped her or not. Honey can barely breathe as all these thoughts go flooding through her mind.
Meanwhile at the Mitchell household, Lola is still waiting to hear news from Jay, has he been with Honey all night? Has Lola been made aware of what's happened to Honey? Clearly she's still waiting to hear from Jay. The next scene jumps to the Panesar's, Kheerat and Vinny are asking their Mum about Jags, it sounds as if she's gone to see her son, or maybe she's just been given an update from someone on the inside - wouldn't surprise me to be honest! Suddenly, Suki just so happens to come up with an idea, having a poker night in her son's honour! Is it just me, or it once again she's using her son's name to do her dirty work! Both her sons are surprised at her suggestion but once she happens to mention inviting a few people over to play and when she happens to mention Kush's name, Kheerat can see straight away that his Mum is up to something, he questions whether it has anything to do with him winning 10 grand and also the fact that she wants to kick the Slaters out of their house. He informs his Mum that he also asked Kush the previous day for a poker game and he declined their offer, even though it was Kat who kind of answered for him. Suki is adamant that their family do not lose, but the offer still stands to invite him to the poker game .... Why do I get the feeling that this is just going to end badly?!
Back at hospital, Jay is trying his best to console Honey and trying to keep her calm, she confides in him that she has been drunk before, but the pure fear of not being able to remember anything is clearly shaking her up. It must be the most terrifying thing not being able to remember what happened. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like. Jay is adamant that he'll be with her all the way through no matter what barriers they may have to come across. He informs her that no one else knows and that her children are safe at home with Lola. It's then that a type of nurse walks into the room, the following scene shows the nurse informing Honey that there are all types of tests they can do to check whether she has been a victim of sexual abuse. Honey agrees to go ahead with the tests, but when the nurse mentions that a police officer will come a visit her to report the incident if she wishes to, Jay is quick to argue that she doesn't have to report it if she doesn't want to. This is quite surprising to me, as Honey asks - why wouldn't she want to report it?!
At the Atkins household, Gray is home and it looks like he's finally been reunited with his children after Shirley suggested that Karen and Mitch look after them while he's getting himself together. As he's enjoying his time with his children, he gets a phone call from Shirley - the last we saw Shirley, she nicked Sonia's car. Could her call to him maybe be something to do with it?
At the Panesar's, Kush is handing over money to Suki which should cover about 2 months rent. As he makes small-talk to the vindictive woman, she brings up the plans of hosting a poker night at the club in honour of her son. Kush, at first, does not seem interested. He seems to click on that maybe the fact that he's won a big sum of money is the main reason why she's wanting him to take part. But Suki just digs her shoes in deeper, kind of almost stabbing him with a knife at his weak spot. She claims that there will be an open space for him and she'll keep the rent money, oh just in case he changes his mind! I actually hate the fact that she's playing on his weakness. She's claiming her sons play big and they play to win, and she has to sit-in in case it gets out of control ... I actually hate that she's almost convincing him to play. Urgh does anyone else hate Suki as much as I do? She is a very vindictive woman! Do any of you agree that she's just as bad as Janine, or could she potentially be worse?!
Meanwhile, at the Café, it looks as if Sonia and Whitney are wanting answers from Gray. As their conversation continues, it's more clear as to why Shirley phoned Gray. Sonia is feeling pretty annoyed that Shirley, not only tried to con her, but also nicked her car and made a report about it. The main reason Shirley called Gray was to try and convince Sonia to retract her report. He speaks for the Carter mother that she's been going through a tough time with Mick lately, she only just wanted to take the car for a little spin, he points out the fact that she's been there for him in recent weeks and he wants to do the same for her. He informs Sonia that Shirley wants to make an offer to make it up to her, Sonia agrees to hear Shirley out, but only for Gray's sake and that the offer she's making must be a damn good one!
Back at the hospital, Honey is still reeling from her recent revelation, as she's slowly coming to terms with everything, Jay pops in to see her. He's insisting that he should go and see Isaac and Sheree, just to explain things as everyone knows that Honey isn't one to get drunk so easily. But Honey makes a brilliant statement, it's not their fault and it certainly isn't her own fault either! Jay is quick to agree with her as a police officer comes in, ready to ask Honey some questions. As they begin to get comfortable, Honey asks for Jay to stay with her. Understandably she wouldn't want to be on her own during this horrific worrying time. I believe there have been many rumours recently regarding Honey and Jay, with everything that has happened to Honey and Jay being the one looking out for her, could their be a romance blossoming between them? I do think people wouldn't mind Honey and Jay being together, but then there are others who see Jay belonging to Lola. The main thing that comes to my mind when I picture Honey and Jay being together, is Billy - won't he feel some kind of betrayal? From perhaps both parties? His ex-wife with the boy he's basically brought up since his Dad passed away? Who knows? What do you guys think?!
At the club, Martin and Ruby are getting everything ready for the poker night. I have to be honest, I am really liking the way Martin is questioning her about the event. It's like something does feel right, know what I mean? Like something doesn't sit right with him. He notices his wife making certain movements of the table and chairs and everything placed on the table, Martin questions her actions. Ruby is quick to defend herself that it's the one time that someone had hired the club out and she wants to make a good impression. Of course, we know that Ruby and Suki are behind this, they know something is going to happen and they're planning something horrendous. As the Panesar family are making themselves comfortable, Kush arrives - much to Martin's surprise. Kush reveals the only reason he's there is to pay Ruby back the money he nicked from her till. As he turns to leave, (surprise surprise), Suki is quick to make a dig at him saying that that repayment could've waited until tomorrow, hinting the fact that Kush couldn't stay away because he knew what was taking place there. When Suki invites him to stay, Martin is quite to defend his friend by saying he can't stay, he even tries to get his wife to back him up, but Ruby - simply - couldn't care less what he does with his money. Kush asks Suki whether she's still kept hold of the money he gave her earlier, as she pulls out a chair inviting him in, he agrees! Martin bows his head and jumps in quick "So am I!" ... I know it sounds silly, but my heart did a little flutter there! The fact that Martin is joining in the game of poker, just to look out for his friend, something I bet Ruby and Suki didn't expect! Could Martin perhaps stop Kush making a huge mistake?!
Returning to the hospital, Honey is sat with Jay as she's answering the questions she's being asked. Did anyone else feel that this was another sad scene? Honey reveals that she doesn't normally drink as she has children and a job. She tries to recall her first date with Paul, how he seemed so excited to see her for a second time, and how he made her feel special. How she made an effort in an attempt to look pretty - but it seems like she's turning the blame on herself, she's feeling guilty for "Pushing" herself. As Honey breaks down into tears, Jay is quick to defend her, claiming that no matter how many dates she went on with Paul, no matter how many glasses of wine she had, he shouldn't have found her in that state in the alleyway. No one deserves the be found in that way. No one deserves to go through or experience sexual assault. Something does tell me that something is going to happen between Jay and Honey though, what do you guys think? The more I see them together, the more I can see it happening!
Ha! I just want to mention one thing - Rainie!!! As Jean are Stacey are looking for Kush on the Square, they bump into Stuart and he reveals he's seen Kush in the club taking part in a poker game. As Jean and Stacey rushes off to find him, Rainie appears from the Minute Mart with an ice cream in one hand and a bottle of tomato ketchup in the other! Stuart looks on in (what I can tell) amazement as she squirts the ketchup onto the ice cream - I simply loved the way she looked up to him and said "What baby wants, baby gets!" - very weird craving but absolutely hilarious moment! - At the club, I loved how idiotic Martin was being, of course he knows how to play poker but I think it was plain to see that he was jeopardising the game to stop Kush from gambling! True friend right there, right?! As the Panesar brother's can't take any more of Martin's ways, they leave the game, calling it quits. When Jean and Stacey eventually find Kush in the club, they plead to him to stop playing, even Stacey begs Kheerat to call it day, and Kheerat agrees - leaving his Mum absolutely stunned. She almost panics that her plan isn't coming together. Kush looks a little bit disheartened also, gutted that he's been caught gambling again and that the game has come to end so quickly. As Kheerat, Vinny and Martin leave the game, with the possibly of Kush leaving to - Suki announces one final game, between her and Kush. What an earth is this evil woman up to?!
At the pub, Gray and Sonia are one again meeting, but with Shirley in tow this time. Gray reveals to Sonia that the offer Shirley is purposing is that she will sell the car on Sonia's behalf to a collector friend of hers, at no extra cost for well more than £2,000 - that way she manages to get rid of car she doesn't want and she'll be getting the car for a lot more than that she thought in the first place, in exchange for Shirley not being reported to the police and going to prison for a mistake that she regrets. Sonia doesn't seem keen on the idea, she even throws in an insult and warns Gray to make sure she doesn't nick his silverware, but from what I can take from that conversation is that Sonia agrees. As she walks off, Shirley is thankful to Gray for helping her out, as he goes to leave, she offers him a job to work for Phil. She explains that he's needing a decent lawyer and with Ritchie being snowed under with other clients, Phil could do with someone like Gray in his defence. Gray doesn't seem keen at first, but Shirley explains that for her, it could be too late to help Mick, but for him, she might've made it just in time. It's an interesting concept, will Gray end up working for Phil? Will he enjoy it? Will Phil be able to trust him? Who knows?!
Returning to the poker game in the club, Ruby watches from the bar as Suki and Kush are sat at the poker table. Jean and Stacey are also also stood watching from a distance. Suki plays right into Kush and teases him that there's two months rent in the pot, there's no cause for indecision now! Suddenly Kush makes a massive move and raises her and pushes all his chips into the middle of the table. The pot has now raised to 4 months rent. Jean and Stacey are absolutely stunned, they're pleading for him to stop until it gets any higher. Stacey pleads to Kush to think of Kat and Arthur, he confirms that he is which is why he's making such a big move, he believes that Suki has nothing he can't handle! -  Oh my god, as this scene goes on I am trembling in my pyjamas! - Suki looks to Ruby and we can see that Ruby has been looking at Kush's cards from her CCTV footage, basically giving small signals to Suki of what cards he's got! - Firstly, how the hell does Ruby know how to play poker?! - And also, that is so bloody sneaky! That was their plan!!! Suki smiles and Kush's comments and decides on a wager, she proposes that if Kush wins, they can live for 8 months, rent-free! But if she wins, they are out of their house by the end of the week. Stacey and Jean are can't believe what they're hearing, their pleas to Kush fall on deaf ears as Kush smiles, he is so confident that she's bluffing and makes the wager from 8 months, to a year rent-free! I fear he's getting himself in deeper and deeper and there's nothing Stacey and Jean can do to resolve it. Suki smirks at Kush's confidence, she asks him whether he's prepared to play or walk away!
Returning to the hospital one last time, Honey is getting herself ready to leave. Jay is still with her, informing her that he'll sort everything out for her regarding work. But Honey is adamant that she'll sort herself out, she asks him why he didn't want her to speak to the police. In her mind, if there was any doubt in his mind that it was her fault, he wouldn't ask her to do that! Honey doesn't want people thinking badly of her, but I truly believe no one will! Jay even admits that he doesn't think that, not even at all! As the police officer announces she's ready to take Honey to the test centre, she asks whether Jay could accompany her.
The final scene of this episode is quite horrendous! Poor Jean is teary as it looks like she's revealed to Kat what has been happening. Kat can't believe what she's hearing, she's absolutely furious to hear that her boyfriend has gone behind her back and gambled again, even though he promised her he wouldn't! What's worse, is that he's only gone and betted the roof over their heads, with the house full, what the hell are they going to be able to do with the children?! Kat hurries herself to go and stop Kush from making a huge mistake, but it's too late - as she gets to the door, Stacey barges through the door, without a word, and marches upstairs! Behind her, looking ever so sheepish, Kush. Kat confronts her boyfriend and demands to know what's happened, but as he turns round, ever so slowly, he looks defeated, almost like he's going to burst into tears! Kat knows that look and tells him not to even show her that face ... all he can muster is "I'm sorry, Kat!"
Kush has only gone a lost the poker game and caused his whole family to be homeless. What the heck are the Slater's going to do now? Surely someone will help them or something may happen? I mean, they've only got a week, but I truly hope things will get better for the Slaters. They're one of my favourite families on the Square, it's going to be hard to see them struggling over the next few episodes. I mean, something tells me, Martin won't see his children go homeless, which might mean that he may take them in, which will just anger Stacey so much more when it means her children will be living with Ruby also. What do you guys think? Do you think Martin will click on that it was his wife who was partly to blame for duping Kush into losing the poker game and causing them to lose their house?! Martin isn't dumb, I do think - in time - he'll come to realise that his wife has been playing games with not just his ex-wife, but his children's lives also, and that is something he will not tolerate! I also hope that this will be a wake-up call for Kush, we know Davood Ghademi is leaving the soap next year, will Kush be able to turn his life around before he leaves? So many questions and possibilities that could happen.
I hope you've enjoyed reading, I apologise once again for it being a bit late. Tomorrow I will do a post following Monday's episode! I hope you all enjoy the rest of your evening and I'll be back very soon! Love you all xXx

Supergirl Season 5 premiere review!
Ok!! So there's a lot to process here but first off WOW! Bravo! 👏👏 as season premieres go that was probably one of if not the best.
Ok... So opening scene, you could so tell that was a simulation from the way Kara talked. I should also like to give a big 🖕🖕 to all those that were dragging Lena saying she either:
1. Gave herself super powers
2. Used Kryptonite
3. Punched Kara in front of some school kids.
Is it just me, or does Hope the AI give off an "I'm going to become sentient and be a massive pain in the ass?" Vibe? 🤔🤔
My poor baby Lena, how awful must it be to believe that everyone you know has betrayed you, that you can't trust them and you have no one to talk to? So you create your own personal AI that won't (probably will ) betray you, oh and you bring someone (Andrea ) back into your life when clearly things haven't always been smooth sailing? Poor Lena!
Ugh..Must they throw out politics less that 3 minutes into the show? We have Kara talking about registering to vote?
Ok, so everyone is praising Kara, she's talking about having her work recognised, Baker and Lex being taken down, but yet again there is NO mention of the fact that it was Lena who figured out where Lex was, Lena who helped Kara/Supergirl etc. Oh that's right I forgot, the show doesn't like to acknowledge when things couldn't have been done without Lena 😤😤
Naww Alex and Kelly are so cute.
Kara suddenly has a dislike for technology?? Random and purely there for plot convenience.
Not going to lie but Jonn is kind of boring this episode.
Ok... So here we go again, Kara using stupid excuses to not tell Lena. Ugh.... this is getting so old and cliche to the point it isn't even funny anymore.
Yes!! They have Kara acknowledging that lying to Lena for so long while being all about 'truth' wasn't fair.
Yes Alex the voice of reason Danvers!! She can tell Kara off essentially while still praising her and letting her know she is good. I'm loving how it's ALEX who is saying Lena needs to know!
😂 Miranda Priestly, yes Brainy I quite agree! Id rather face Hannibal Lector than her. Oh bring back Cat Grant!!
😂😂 omg that handshake! I'm willing to bet that Alex's laugh was just Chyler not being able to keep a straight face and they kept it.
James is boring.
Strangely turned on by the way Andrea says her name 😅
James is boring.
Not going to lie, I know Lena wanted Andrea to keep the sale of Cat Co a secret, but I'm actually glad we got to see Kara's shock at not being kept in the loop. Humble pie much??
Ok the exhibit is funny.
Did they have a casting call for a creepy kid?
Dinosaur!!
Katie is so good at the whole pretending to be happy and friendly whilst plotting face 🤣. Morgana much?
Oh.... Kara is being indignant Lena did something without telling them all?? Another bite of pie Kara?
Hahahaha 🖕 to all those that said Lena didn't buy Cat Co for Kara. (I know she might be saying that to explain the sale away, but it's been said so it's canon!)
Oooh Lena is really making it obvious she knows 🤣🤣 awkward much lol
Dinosaur!!
Karas cape is more important than a bomb to Brainy 😂
Ooh here that's scene at Cat Co. I stand by my last post, James and Kara are incredibly rude to their new boss and have zero right to speak to her that way. James and Kara used all of the staff to gang up on Andrea and it's just not on! I love how Andrea roasted James though!!
Does anyone here ever read a contract before signing it?
Am I the only one thought Andrea was Lenas ex when she said "relationship"?? 😅😅 false alarm lol
Why is Kara still flying with a crap cape? She doesn't need one to fly.
trap!!
Midnight isn't all that exciting.
Oh so Jonn remembers Manchester Black, but i take it no one wants to acknowledge his blatant MURDER Of the disarmed non powered human? Ok writers you can forget it all you want, but I'm not going to!
😂 Brainy! It is great fun to watch Jonn shift into Kara!
Oh Alex you angel and voice of reason.
Yay Kelly!! Lovely advice, love how she's the one who convinced James to leave! Kelly just got a massive boost in my eyes!
William is hilariously obnoxious!!
Erm... Did Kara just FULL ON verbally attack her new boss? Threatening to fight her boss on everything? Dictating what Andrea can and can not do? Giving out demands? Jesus Christ, Andrea I know you said you're not going to fire her but man I would have on the spot!! Kara is waaaay out of order and getting way to big for her super boots!
I don't think William and Kara are going to be a couple, that's the exact same story as Mon El and Kara. No one wants to watch that again.
Ok so now Kara is bragging to Alex that she verbally attacked her new boss, telling her what SHE will and will not tolerate? Omg Kara get a grip!
Alex?? You're encouraging this? You were supposed to be the voice of reason!
Naww Alex and Kelly are cute!
Ooh Brainy is so funny! "To small to be perceived". He made her a new suit!
Holy s**t!! Kara just out right came out to Lena!! I really thought she would drag this out start rambling and not actually do it So Lena sees her change instead. But good for her, about bloody time!!
Lena genuinely looks shocked! She didn't expect Kara to come clean! Puts a spanner in Lena's revenge plot there lol
Jesus the acting of these two!! The facial expressions and the tears! Mel is really selling it! Bravo 👏👏
I'm loving how Kara is acknowledging all the things we've been saying, how her reasons for keeping the secret were dumb!
Oh I don't trust this Hope AI at all! She's encouraging Lena to hate on Kara.
Oh the speech, and Alex's awkward look!
No way was Lena going to immediately forgive Kara, I know we wanted to think it but Nooo! Far to soon lol
Omg!! It was Lena Kara activated her new suit infront of!! I'm living for that!
PANTS!!!
HOLY SH*T MUSE!!! Yesssss!!! What a sound track to use!!
Alex "how do you guys change so fast?!" 🤣🤣
Oh.. ... look...... Guardian is there.....Hopefully for his last appearance
Fight itself isn't all that exciting, and I feel like we didn't even get to know Midnight, that was way to quick.
James quit, good! Leave!! Seems a bit stupid he doesn't care about never being a journalist again though. But I won't dwell, because I genuinely don't care.
Alex and Kelly! Oh my heart!
Oh so Brainy has had A LOT of romantic experience then? 😏
Aww he loves her!!
I'm glad they had Brainy acknowledge his feeling at having been dark for that short time.
Nawwww a kiss!
That little girl is way creepy!
Oh so Jonn doesn't know he has a brother? 🤔 interesting.
Oh look Lena gets a super watch, ABOUT BLOODY TIME!! That could have prevented so many problems! Straight out of a fan fic lol
Oh yes, I don't trust this AI Hope!!
Lena no! You are NOT a Luthor!
Ok... so all in all a fab episode, nothing was dragged out thank RAO! I don't hate Lena for wanting to expose Kara, it makes sense from a comic point of view and from the pain she feels. The important thing is she didn't do it. People are allowed to feel like they are going to lash out when they are hurt.
I quite like Andrea, she's a breath of fresh air! Plus she isn't wrong in her ideas, just because it's something Kara, Nia and James don't like doesn't mean it's wrong. I think she was treated horribly and despicably by Kara and James though. Especially Kara! That was way to much and she should have been sacked. I'm really happy someone is at Cat Co now that is challenging her and not doing whatever she says, I think the days of Karaolsen magazine and Kara running out whatever she wants are done. But this is good!
Nia is adorable but didn't get to do much.
Jonn was pretty boring this ep considering the villain was out to get him.
James sucks!
Brainy is sooo cute and funny!
Alex and Kelly are the best!
Alex being the voice of reason is what I'm here for, now I want her to go see Lena.
Hahaha Kelly is the one to thank for ridding me of James.
The acting between Mel and Katie here was brilliant, the emotions the tears, the deception? Wonderfully done.
Lena didn't create any VR tech so take that haters!!
Kara's war on tech sounds like it's going to be for boring reasons.
I don't trust this Hope AI!
Lena isn't done for yet, "a fight for Lena's soul!" We can all find our way back to the light!

Dragon Ball Z 286
Tumblr media
I gotta finish this damn liveblog, and that means I gotta get rid of this Kid Buu jerk.
Tumblr media
Are you prepared for the kind of death you’ve earned, little man?
Tumblr media
There’s just one problem.  Vegeta’s so badly hurt from fighting Kid Buu that he can’t clear out of the path of the Spirit Bomb when Goku throws it.   He tells Goku to do it anyway, or else everything they did to reach this moment will be for nothing.   But Goku hesitates...
Tumblr media
... long enough for Majin Buu to realize that if he sticks close to Vegeta, Goku won’t launch that thing at him.  I assume this means that Buu understands that the Spirit Bomb could definitely kill him.  Otherwise he’d just attack Goku, or stand his ground and let it hit him.
Tumblr media
Down in hell, the bad guys are all watching this.   Hey, Cell.
Tumblr media
And Frieza mocks Goku for being soft.   You know, how cool is this?  This is the sort of thing I might have imagined as a small child, and this show went all out and did it.   “All the bad guys are watching from hell.”  It’s so simple, yet so brilliant.   And Frieza’s doing most of the talking, but for my money, what makes this work is Dr. Gero’s salty expresssion as he watches his hated enemy struggling to save the universe.   Cell doesn’t seem to care much, and Frieza’s just being a punk, but Gero seems to genuinely be rooting for the universe to die, just so he can watch Goku suffer.
Tumblr media
Also, for some reason, Babidi has switched sides?   Before, he was rooting for Goku, because Buu murdered him.  Maybe the appearance of Fat Buu confused him.  “Well, the fat one killed me, so if the fat kid is fighting him then I guess I’m on Team Kid now.”
Tumblr media
All Vegeta can do now is appeal to Goku’s Saiyan heritage.   Goku has to do this, whether it kills Vegeta or not.   Another Saiyan wouldn’t hesitate, and neither should Goku.   And Goku’s like “Yeah, but...”
And that’s kind of Goku’s relationship with Vegeta in a nutshell.   It’s usually Vegeta telling Goku what a Saiyan is supposed to be like, and Goku appreciating some of it, but not all.   What doesn’t get as much attention is that there’s a pushback there, where maybe Vegeta’s vision of an idea Saiyan isn’t true, and maybe on some level Goku is showing Vegeta what a Saiyan is supposed to be like.   Vegeta’s already begged the Earthlings to support his plan.   Hell, Vegeta’s plan isn’t very Vegeta-like at all.  He’s using Goku’s technique and Fat Buu’s durability and Mr. Satan’s popularity to make it work.
So it’s not very Vegeta-like at all, but I’d suggest that it is very Saiyan, because it’s a band of weaker fighters taking down a stronger enemy.   All we’ve heard about the Saiyans is that they crave stronger and stronger opponents, and they never balk at a challenge, no matter how difficult.  I think Vegeta, and others like him, got that whole idea mixed up, and thought that the goal was to simply be stronger than the competition, so that you could take them down all by yourself.  For someone like Vegeta, that wasn’t such an impossible thing, since he was the strongest Saiyan for so long.
But you have to figure that for most Saiyans, the ones who are used to getting outgunned on the battlefield, they also became accustomed to finding unorthodox solutions to win the day.   They had to, because if they didn’t they’d all get killed and the species would go extinct.    You look at the Saiyans depicted in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and they’re a lot nicer than you might expect.   That’s because they know they might need one another when the going gets tough.
I think that’s why Goku can’t throw the Spirit Bomb with Vegeta in its path.   It was Vegeta who got them this far, and they may need him again some day.  Goku refused to kill Vegeta when they were enemies.    How can he kill him when they’re allies?   That’s what his Saiyan heart is telling him: “You’ve got to find another way.”
Tumblr media
Then Buu starts taking potshots at Goku, since Goku can’t move or throw the bomb.   I dig this part a lot, because when I first watched it, I wondered why Buu was just waiting around to see what would happen.
Tumblr media
I didn’t get a good screenshot of it, but a few of these blasts hit Goku in the dick.   Anyway, maybe Goku has some kind of force field around him to soften the blows, but still, this is some nuclear heel heat on Majin Buu right now.
Tumblr media
Mr. Satan is horrified, but what can he do?  What can anyone do?   But then!
Tumblr media
Fat Buu is up!
Tumblr media
And he’s piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed.
Tumblr media
Satan tries to hug him, because he’s so happy that he didn’t die, but Buu just slaps him aside, because he’s got work to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Fat Buu tackles Kid Buu, then calls out to Satan, who grabs Vegeta and runs for it.  He apologizes to Fat Buu, then tells Goku to throw the Spirit Bomb now, before it’s too late.
Tumblr media
And Kid Buu tosses off Fat Buu just in time to catch...
Tumblr media
... a big ol’ facefull of this!   Whatcha gonna do now, Kid Buu?   Whatcha gonna do?!
Tumblr media
Oh, well he caught it.   I guess that’s what he’s gonna do.  Well played, sir.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Goten and Trunks choke on corn.   Piccolo wants them all to head for the Lookout, where they can sense the outcome of the battle more easily.
Tumblr media
So  they arrive, and Gohan snap-vanishes behind Videl all suave-like.   “Hey,” he says, “I’m Ultimate Gohan (Elder Kai Unlock) now, nbd.”
Tumblr media
So Videl starts chewing him out for maybe being dead and then actually being dead and not being in heaven and so forth.
Tumblr media
D’awwwwwwwwwww.
Tumblr media
Chi-Chi’s kind of irritated that Gohan is ignoring her, but then Trunks and Goten show up and she remembers she’s got two boys.
Tumblr media
But it’s not over yet.    The problem here is that Goku’s ki is so weak from fighting before that he can’t push the Spirit Bomb against Kid Buu’s resistance.  Remember, when Goku used this thing against Frieza before, he really didn’t even need to “push” it.   Frieza tried to knock it away, and he simply couldn’t do it.    But Kid Buu can, which requires some effort by Goku, except he doesn’t have enough power left to make it happen.
I assume there’s some sort of “leverage” involved with the Spirit Bomb, where the guy throwing it has the upper hand against the target, even if the target is physically stronger.  Otherwise, how could Goku be holding out as well as he is?
Tumblr media
There seems to be two solutions to this problem.  One is to increase the power of the Spirit Bomb itself, except everyone who could have contributed already has.  I’m confused how you can add on to the Spirit Bomb once it’s already been deployed, but what do I know?   The other solution is to fix things on Goku’s end.  Make him stronger, and he’ll be able to see this through.    Dende could heal him...
Tumblr media
...Except there’s no way to get Dende to Goku, because Kibitoshin gave all his power to the Spirit Bomb, so he doesn’t have enough juice left to teleport.
Tumblr media
So Vegeta tells Mr. Satan to ask the people of Earth to send more power to the bomb.   But King Kai warns him that if they try that so soon, they’ll all die.   Remember, they gave everything they could the first time around, so they need to rest.   Is that Farmer With Shotgun?   They keep sneaking him into these things, and I’m pretty sure he’s the one guy on this show who never could have come back.    Unless he’s some sort of Tom Bombadil-type figure.   Yeah, that might be it.
Tumblr media
But Vegeta insists, since they can always wish the Earthlings back to life again if it comes to that.   Mr. Satan almost agrees, except he now realizes that this isn’t just a dream, and if this is really happening, then he can’t bring himself to betray his fans that way.   He won’t do something that would allow people to die, however temporarily.
That says something interesting about Mr. Satan.  In this whole situation, he seems to finally have the kind of awesome power that he’s often bragged about, and now he realizes what a terrible responsibility it is to have it.  Vegeta’s been in this situation his whole life.    He may not relish this option, but he knows better than to waste time deciding.
Tumblr media
So he angrily reminds Mr. Satan that they have the Dragon Balls, and can just wish everyone back if they need to.   Hell, they still have a wish left on Porunga and--
Tumblr media
Oh, yeah.
Tumblr media
Dende asks Porunga to restore Goku’s power to normal, and Porunga’s like okey-dokey, Smokey.
Tumblr media
One thing that makes this episode so great is how, in this moment, we finally see Goku give in to despair.    He feels totally alone, no because anyone abandoned him, but because they’re all too far away or too badly beat up or too weakened to help him.   It’s all up to him to make this work, and he just doesn’t have the strength to pull it off.
Tumblr media
At this point, Buu has already pushed the Spirit Bomb back towards Goku, and he’s preparing some sort of counterattack.   There’s just nothing Goku can do.  Z stands for the end.
Tumblr media
But not yet.   Dende tells him that Porunga should have restored his power, and I guess Goku couldn’t tell unless someone told him first, but whatever.
Tumblr media
And then he gets his old fire back.   Goku thanks the Dragon Balls, which is kind of appropriate, because they’ve helped him out so many times since he was a boy.
Tumblr media
So then he pushes back on the bomb with authority, turning Super Saiyan 1 just to be safe.
Tumblr media
And now Buu’s in deep doo-doo.  He had some difficulty pushing back on the bomb before, and this time Goku’s fresh as a daisy.
Tumblr media
I always thought Goku should have used SSJ3, just to be thorough, but I do like how he’s sticking to the classic Super Saiyan.  No need to overdo it, after all.    As he shoves the bomb down, he praises Buu for his epic performance.  He fought everybody, multiple times, and withstood everything everyone had to throw at him.  Goku can’t help but be impressed, but it’s time for him to die.
Tumblr media
He asks Buu to be reincarnated as a good guy, so that he can Goku can fight again some day.
Tumblr media
Only then, Goku wants it to be one-on-one, as he promises to be much stronger when that day comes.
Tumblr media
Can Buu even hear him from down there?

¡Adios, muchacho!

Is it just me, or does this look kind of pleasant?   I mean, I know the idea is that he can’t hold it any longer, and he’s getting engulfed in this big explosion, but it looks kind of fun at the same time.   Like getting immersed in this big huge ball of glowy energy.    Maybe that’s why the Spirit Bomb can’t hurt good people, because bad guys are too salty to appreciate how fun it is.

Big collage of everyone telling Goku to finish him off.   Awesome.   Very awesome.

And then arrrrrggghhh!    Yeah!   Eat it, boy, eat it!

Yeah, take your medicine, you no-selling bastard!  Welcome to Goku Town!
Tumblr media
Sorry you couldn’t stay.

And that’s the end of Majin Buu.  Well, the bad one anyway.  It’s surreal how he’s finally beaten.   After 55 episodes, you just get used to the guy re-forming himself after a big move.  But not this time.

Goku powers down and he looks wiped out.  But it’s finally done.

Classic Vegeta, right there.

Mr. Satan can’t believe what he just saw.

And then Goku and Vegeta exchange hearty thumbs up for a job well done.

I really love how the narrator has to emphasize that Buu is really, honest-to-goodness dead this time.   Though I do enjoy the dub narrator pointing out how Goku and Vegeta have become friends through the course of this battle.    Maybe that was all they really needed.  They never spent a lot of time working together before this, and that was sort of the point of the last 18 episodes.    Everyone else is dead or unavailable, so it’s up to them to put aside their differences and join forces.
And this is what they came up with.    First they fused, then they removed all of the guys Buu had absorbed, then they decided to take turns fighting Kid Buu, an when that didn’t work, Vegeta devised this whole plan using his idea, Goku’s technique, and eventually Fat Buu and Mr. Satan joined in as well.
This arc was about teamwork.   The Babidi Saga showed how badly things could get when the heroes weren’t really working together well.   They had every advantage, but snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.    The Majin Buu Saga showed each of these guys trying to handle things on their own.   Buu kills Baidi, Mr. Satan befriends Buu, Vegeta tries to fight Buu by himself, and Goku tries to prepare everyone but him to tackle the problem without him.   None of it worked.   Then things finally came together here, when they all stopped bickering and joined together in earnest.    And that’s a really beautiful thing.
The Kid Buu Saga is a bit weird, in that we just got rid of Kid Buu, but there’s still five more episodes to go, but they’re satisfying episodes, because the characters really earned this victory.
