I have an ao3 question from my brother in law, who is an avid fic reader. He doesn't have a tumblr, and since I also would like to know, I'm posting his question for him:

I want to somehow mark the fics I've read according to three categories:

Good fics - read again

Unfinished - pick up later

Bad fics - never read again

I want to be able to mark them in such a way that if I search for a tag or generally just look in lists of search results, that either directly there in the list overview or as soon as you click on it you see both A - that you have read it, and B - what category it is. It should also preferably be something that tags each individual part in a series.

Does anyone here know a way to do this or something close to it? I am probably looking for an addon or browser extension or something. Bookmarks kinda work, but are very clunky. (You have to open the work to see if it's bookmarked and then you have to edit the bookmark to see what tags you used. It's different if you look through your bookmarks, it works better there. But that's not what we're doing.)

I've already started another book in Japanese that I will post about soon, but the 本を守ろうとする猫の話 book hangover is real, so I'm posting a longer quote for you that stuck with me over the last month.

Context: Rintarō was raised by his grandfather who has just died. While he is still grieving, he starts going on adventures with a talking cat to save the books. On those adventures Rintarō is able to change some hearts by reflecting back on lessons his grandfather taught him when he was still alive. This is one of those lessons:

I though it was a very kind and gentle way for a grandfather who manages an antique book shop himself and who certainly is a book worm just as much as his grandson to reach out to a young boy who was on the verge of shutting himself off completely.

I also think it's generally good advice: Read your books and then walk with the new knowledge and experiences for a while. See were it will lead you and give it space to influence how you see the world around you.

not sure if anyone else is equally as obsessed with trying to get site layouts to look like their "old" versions as i am but does anyone possibly have a way to get tumblr to look "old?" like, with the lines on the side of posts for the reblogs and the little triangle on the side that makes it look like a speech bubble and stuff, because ive seen extremely recent screenshots that have them like that but ive had no luck in finding an extension to make it look like that. ive seen old posts which indicate that xkit used to have a feature that made it look like that, but it doesnt seem to have that feature anymore. if anyone knows of anything please lmk bc ive been trying to get all the websites i frequent to look old (i use firefox btw if that helps anything)

Youtube search fixer. Make youtube search suck less. I reblogged this at some point, but I must not have tagged it well because I can never find it when I'm searching. So I'm just making my own post now with a ton of tags. It has some additional stuff too, like taking out the shorts section.

For anyone that wants an option to remove this from your YouTube feed:

1) I got good news about the video title-

2) While you used to be able to block specific videos as "Not interested", it seems like they removed that- or at least, made it unavailable to mobile users. You CAN block a whole channel though, if they're annoying enough-

It's not a perfect fix, but it is the default-youtube option.
