A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF: I've been in both iterations of the group since around... 2013? 14? starting with my best girl Fionna the Human, so I've been around for a looooot of things.

Uh... what else? I'm a lore nerd for anything and everything I get into, especially if I pick up a muse from it. My very specific lore caches are related to Guilty Gear, Blazblue and FFX/XII, and more recently, Dislyte and TWST.

I also really dislike when people try and get me into things without actually telling me what it's about, which is why it took me 'til this winter to watch BSD.

My favorite types of characters are depressed men, women who could (and would!) kill a man, and tiny people with Big Danger energy. I somehow wind up latching to a character with an unrequited romance plotline at least once a year. And I really, really like cream puffs.

You actually made me look at my stats. Though I've mostly published for a tiny fandom (Captain Harlock) , so it's hard to tell (I wasn't keeping numbers for my Pirates of the Caribbean stuff I wrote pre-ao3 founding, and we all were paranoid of Disney back then). Ah. And someone reminded me of the Jojo one I did on Twitter as a challenge, but never bothered putting it on ao3 because of the death threats (kidding).

So. What I have numbers for:

17 fics: 13 for Captain Harlock or related Matsumoto Leiji show (Leijiverse), 2 for BSD, 2 fairy tales, 1 cthulhu mythos.

Top five? Sister, I was shocked at the numbers on some of these, but they've also had 4 or 5 years to sit around, and the advantage of smaller fandoms is your writing doesn't get buried under the daily avalanche of new stuff.

I've got several tied at 13 kudos. All Harlock ones, one of those was the illustrated thread of communications between the Arcadia and the female-crewed Imp of Perversity. There was a strip poker game and the girls made sure to take pics of Harlock every time he lost a round. In fact, they were pretty sure he was losing on purpose. But yeah. I got a lot of hits because of the artwork.

Current top is 15 kudos for Give Me The Brain. Only 175 hits. Double Black Valentine's day has only 10 kudos, but 268 hits. Vacation Games has 13 kudos and 249 hits and is still my longest fic. It got written despite an illness that sent me screaming to the ER, then to major surgery less than a week after that (there's even a drawing of me in the ER titlted "why the chapter was late"). Space Pirate Keelhauling also has 13 kudos, which inspired me to start a manga then never finish (30 pages drafted, 15 are finished). And, huh. Red, White, Black comes in at 7 kudos, 12 comments and 308 hits. Not bad for an unfinished story that I had a mental meltdown in the middle of.

Angstiest ending? I don't usually do angst. Red, White, Black was *full* of angst and just helped add to my meltdown (covid lockdown, my father's long illness, his transfer to hospice then his death, my husband's illness, the deaths of several people I went to college with...) Anyway, I was in the middle of painting an illustration for the chapter where Maya, Harlock's wife, is shot as she's trying to board the Arcadia. And I've just never finished that painting. Nor the chapter.

Happiest ending: a lot of mine have have happy or at least funny endings.

Do I write smut? I used to. I still occasionally do nsfw art (like my unintentional prank of the BSD New Year's Day official Art). I wrote a lot of smut when I was still writing for Jack Sparrow/PotC. May you never find it. That's just about the time I started using scotchfairy online. My previous fan name I hope stays forgotten.

I apparently had illustrations that I did for the Battlestar Galactica wikipedia end up in that huge scraped AI database. And I've noted a few of my more recent works from ArtStation floating around the net. I think I'm glad I burned my Twitter account when I did. Oh, and John Scalzi wrote a scene into his Imterdependency series after I shared the first draft of Space Pirate Keelhauling with the writers' group on Twitter. But that was *sharing*, not stealing.

Have I cowritten anything? Not officially. I've been the evil imp whispering in friends' ears, and a beta reader (which is just a slightly more dignified version of the Imp of Perversity). And I've volunteered artwork for some stories. Most notably, the evil grinning pumpkins one. The story for that one is going to live in my head forever.

Cross overs. No, not unless they're for related shows/books. Like the Leijiverse or Diskworld or Pirates of the Caribbean.

Strangths: batshit crazy ideas. Especially if I can shoehorn them into cannon or background lore somehow. Counts double with the Harlock stuff, since both I and my husband were slave labor--I mean grad students for NASA.

Weaknesses: getting the damn things done. When I did the novella-length Vacation Games and later Jack and Jill, I started out with an outline to write from. And pretty quickly, chapters got split into two or even THREE because I found things that needed to be said that I'd left out of my first pass.

WIP I'll probably never finish: uhhh. So many. But it looks like Red, White, Black. I've started working on the Pirate Keelhauling manga again, because there's too much good artwork there to let it all go to waste. If I get that done, maybe I'll pick up the Alice in Wonderland AU for BSD I was about halfway through doing the first version of the art (got to Alice/Dazai manages to outgrow the living room while the Rabbit/Kunikida runs around outside).

The first fandom I wrote for? Well, first online at least was PotC. I remember writing weird fractured fairy tales, stories with the Addams Family, Star Wars (like as the first 3 movies came out), and LotR stuff in my diary in grade school and middle school.

Favorite fic: huh. Might be Vacation Games. There are spots I'd do differently now, but I actually managed to write a novella with an A and B plots, and it still made sense even while being funny.

when i awake's ending is definitely bittersweet, but sometimes death really is just the ending that provides the best narrative fulfillment for a character. however considering the ending I have planned for tsp... ugh. i actually think when i awake might be angstier

what are your writing strengths?

i think the thing i do best is probably symbolism or the like... bringing moments back full-circle, weaving bits of the real-life authors' or bsd canon and meta-canon into the fic is where i find myself most satisfied with what I've done. also--since TSP is so noir-inspired--adding references to some of my favorite films hehe.

what are your writing weaknesses?

i'm awful at dialogue ( banter ), action sequences, and planning.

thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i don't do it in languages i don't know unless i have a team of people willing to check it for me. i just write it in the same language as the rest of the fic and add a dialogue tag specifying it's being translated...

Ranpo! Is! Autistic Coded!

Hear me out! I definitely think Ranpo from BSD is Autistic coded! It only occurred to me during my second watch-through but a lot of his mannerisms actually match up a lot with my own experiences as someone with ASD! :0

I found a whole article explaining a lot of different things that make him Autistic coded so I'll link it here! But I'll also make a TLDR version too in case the link doesn't work!

BASICALLY!

1.Infodumping/Overtalking

2.Missing tons of social cues

3.Obliviousness in many situations

UPDATE!! I JUST STARTED WATCHING SEASON 4 SO UNDERNEATH HERE WILL BE S4 SPOILERS!!! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!!

So based off of all of the Ranpo LORE revealed in the first episode his Autism beams are stronger than ever because HEAR ME OUT!!!

So it's revealed that Ranpo always gets perceived as childish even when he doesn't wish to be perceived that way (I know he's 14 but he says something along the lines of like "Here we go again, getting treated like a child") which is something many people with Autism (me included) have to deal with from our NT peers

AND! Not to mention the particular eating habits from when Fukuzawa was taking him out to eat red bean bowls with mochi in them and he didn't eat any of the mochi (in any of the 20 bowls)

AAAAAND! This is the spiciest part! It was revealed that Ranpo kept getting fired from jobs because of how blunt he was with the truth and how he would easily confront his superiors about their past or their crimes! It's so hard for many Autistic people to keep a job oftentimes because many of us don't understand social cues!

Another thing was that Ranpo automatically assumed that all of the tiny details he noticed were common knowledge and that everyone was on the same page as him, when in actuality he was noticing things that nobody else had yet to pick up on!

There were many other moments where Ranpo either didn't pick up on social cues or said/acted in ways that were out of pocket or not "normal" if that makes sense, and it only strengthens the argument that Ranpo is Autistic coded!

And then he has a small meltdown in the theater and you can clearly see people are starting to stare if you look closely

IN EPISODE 3, Ranpo also notes that he can't pay attention to things he has no interest in, which is something I personally really struggle with (especially as a college student RIP)

I'm not 100% sure if his breakdown at the end of episode 3 would constitute as something that should be added to this list, but I think it's noteworthy because I myself have also had similar meltdowns that went very similar to Ranpo's and I want to mention it.

I know I keep expanding this list as I find more and more content but somehow Ranpo's existence and the way he is unanimously respected and loved by the ADA is somehow really validating and comforting to me at the same time. I know BSD is fiction but somehow I see myself in Ranpo and yearn to be loved in the way that he is by all of his friends.

also they said multiple times that du will be reset in a new game mode, so this insight mode is a way for ppl to get all the rewards fast before they reset?? like they may throw a tiny lore bit to explain it but i doubt it signifies a ratio rerun or actual story appearance soon guys. i'm manifesting one but i don't think this specific detail is hinting at it sorry. unless ofc i'm missing smth
