Hey, so this is actually devastating thank you. I wanna see SJ come back for one reason or another (insert plot device here) and really let all of it marinate—the way his imposter has much better rapport and camaraderie with nearly everyone, how much “better” his life is going at this point (assuming most people still think it’s him having suffered from a qi deviation and amnesia)

It would be interesting to guage the peak lords’ reactions once they realize that no, Shen Jiu did not just lose his mean personality, he was just swapped out.

And you know, as much as it hurts to say, the way Shen Jiu was generally disliked by the other peak lords was somewhat justified.

I am always a SJ defender, but he WAS an asshole and of course the other peak lords aren’t going to vibe with that, given their own intense personalities.

Shen Jiu did NOT deserve 99% of what he went through—especially when all of those nasty rumors and allegations were spreading about him—but his bitter personality and temper probably didn’t make things better for him.

Fuck it, this is a JiuYuan/ScumCum AU now. At this point, if it’s post canon, Shen Qingqiu (Yuan) will have a better understanding of Shen Jiu’s origins and mistreatment and then he can fix him and they can kiss and it will all be okay.

I just want Shen Jiu to be happy, okay? DOES HE HAVE A SINGLE MOMENT OF HAPPINESS IN HIS ENTIRE LIFE??? /GEN???

Just having thoughts about what if Shen Jiu came back? Or what if he was watching the whole time?

He would have had to sit there and watch as an imposter moved around in his body doing things he would never do in a million years and everyone likes him more. Ig it would really work to cement Yue Qingyuan’s care for him because he’s the only one that doesn’t seem to prefer this random guy. But still, even if he doesn’t like the peak lords, seeing the meeting where they decide not to do anything about the imposter because they actually like this one must cut deep where it hurts.

But also, he’s already lost so much agency at the hands of men so to see his own body being used by a man to get closer to the one person you hate the most in the world cannot be easy.

Idk just sad Shen Jiu thoughts I couldn’t keep to myself.

I know for a fact Shen Yuan was on ao3 looking up fanfics for PIDW because he mentions several of them BY NAME in one of the first two books.

He was definitely leaving essays in the comment sections ranting about the inaccurate portrayal of the characters or any plot development he finds particularly terrible.

Double Transmigration AU

Scum Villain AU where Shen Qingqiu gets re-transmigrated post-canon into the TGCF universe and gets thrown into either Xie Lian or Hua Cheng’s body.

Essentially this would be both hilarious and terrifying depending on which direction you take it in.

On one hand, if you take Shen Yuan ANYWHERE Luo Binghe is gonna have a meltdown and start tearing open the time-space continuum until he can find his husband.

SIMILARLY, I can imagine Shen Yuan waking up one morning in Xie Lian’s body only to meet an exceedingly terrifying ghost king inches away from his face going “You Are Not My Husband.”

On the other hand, imagine Shen Yuan waking up as Hua Cheng and realizing “oh shit this guy’s a ghost king, gotta play the aloof immortal master card until I can figure out wtf is going on”

So most regular ghosts might not catch on immediately—but what about Xie Lian? When Hua Cheng starts acting “distant” and “unlike himself.” I bet Shen Yuan wouldn’t even realize that this man is supposed to be Hua Cheng’s husband.

I can’t decide which of these ideas I like more. Either way, depending on which direction it goes, there are so many potential shenanigans and disasters that can unfold.

“Oh shit Hua Cheng is a ghost king? Maybe he’s some kind of evil overlord? What if I start acting nice to people?” *Proceeds to relieve He Xuan of his debt, proceeds to give Yin Yu a raise, continues to act aloof and uncaring all the same, nobody can figure out what the fuck is going on*

And then you have the reverse—what will happen if either Hua Cheng / Xie Lian wakes up in Shen Qingqiu’s body?

Dare I say, the potential for shenanigans is endless.

My Top 5 Scum Villain Ships

5.CumPlane

There’s just something so silly about them. I love the way they bicker and banter, and you can’t deny the obvious shitpost potential of them both coming from the real world.

I fucking love the memes where they’re speaking in brainrot to each other and all the other peak lords are like 🤨❓

4. MoShang

They make me so mad fr. I stand with SQH as a child of divorce so yk, I can’t be too upset with him. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THEIR ABANDONMENT TRAUMAS LOVE TO CLASH CONSTANTLY AND IT’S SO DJFJDJF 🍽️ I hate it so much *desperately filling my plate with fics and fan art and headcanons and—*

3. JiuYuan / ScumCum

Another ship w the sillies. One of my favorite dynamics with JiuYuan is Shen Yuan being like “ugh” but then realizing how broken Shen Jiu is and then going “sigh, I can fix him…” and then he DOES fix him and it’s sweet and cute and perfect.

And yk, I think it’s so important for Shen Jiu to experience kindness and gentle touch and actual love, and it’s like YEAH I love the drama of QiJiu and LiuJiu, but with QiJiu it doesn’t hit the same because in order for it to work in a /gen way, Yue Qingyuan has to have his redemption arc and regain Shen Jiu’s broken trust.

I still do ship LiuJiu ans QiJiu, but ScumCum is just more wholesome in my eyes.

With Shen Yuan, there was no original betrayal, he just comes out of the transmigration oven with warm hands and healing vibes. For the most part.

I like that they are both also similar in a hater way too. If you think about it, they’re both 100% capable of going on the BEST RANTS and being a hater and I just KNOW they have the BEST debriefs after seeing the others do questionable things in public. Yk, they give each other the 👀 “are u seeing this shit” look knowing fully well they are both gonna have a 2 hour mutual ted talk about the absolute audacity.

You also gotta love the dynamic of Tsundere (soft) and Tsundere (will kill a bitch). Because on one hand Shen Yuan has to have his gay awakening so he’s in denial for a hot minute. And then you have Shen Jiu who’s ALSO in denial—probably also in the closet bc he has to overcome his mental block of fearing/despising all men before he can become open to the idea of allowing one man.

And then you can easily end up with a dynamic where both of them realize their feelings and it turns into

2. BingLiuShen

Slot number 2 goes to BingLiuShen. Everyone repeat after me: SHEN QINGQIU HAS TWO HANDS!

I think the most interesting part about any Poly ship is the multitude of dynamics; it’s more than just SQQ x LQG x LBH. It’s also BingQiu. It’s also LiuShen. It’s also…uh, BingLiu(?) for the life of me I cannot remember if that’s their ship name, BUT ANYWAY.

Each of these individual dynamics has its own individual charm that gets explored once you start overlapping them together. You have the base with some delicious seasoning if you will.

Not gonna lie, it was a 100% tag team effort between SairusB and Celardor that initially sold me on BingLiuShen.

I love Luo Binghe being a menace, Shen Qingqiu being ‘:3’, and Liu Qingge being shy and not used to romance at all. Not that any of them really are, but I love how many ways you can play around with this specific concept, which I will elaborate on more in the next part of the post.

Love that we get LiuShen art in the official artstyle btw, I will never shut up about it bc Velinxi’s art is so gorgeous and I cherish everything she draws so so so dearly.

LiuShen is so special to me. I’ve talked about it several times before on my blog but I just love their dynamic so much. Somehow despite both being tsunderes (well, idk if I count SQQ as a FULL tsundere, but still) they end up being so soft with one another it’s so fucking wholesome.

As much as I do enjoy BingQiu, I say as it did not make the top 5 list LMFAO I absolutely love how many ways there are to write LiuShen. Given that SQQ is ship silly putty already, it really does provide the opportunity for endless fun.

There are fics where both of them are self aware of how they feel, there are fics where neither of them are. There are fics where one of them realzies they like the other and have no shame about it. And BOTH are equally as entertaining. I love ‘:3 Liu shidi is pretty I wanna touch him’ fics just as much as I love ‘>:( I’m gonna bring Shen Yuan courting gifts and challenge him to a fight to express my devotion’ ones.

And then you have the fics where one of them is oblivious and accidentally ends up married to the other—I’ve seen it go both ways and it’s perfect every time I swear to god.

Props to Celardor AGAIN because I think they perfectly balance the tsundere and soft vibes between the two. The fic “Sharing is Caring” goes beyond just the silly wife plot it starts out as. It deadass goes from “teehee silly wife plot” to “let’s actually explore the dynamic and the world and the plot beyond just this silly adventure”

Celardor said “I think I see potential here” and both parts of the fic series amount to 254,349 words AND COUNTING BC PART 2 ISN’T DONE YET.

Okay this isn’t a fic review this is a SHIP review so setting Celardor’s fic hesitantly aside, it’s sort of hard for me to explain how much they make me happy but I just love the blushy x blushy dynamic so much LET THEM BE SHY AND SOFT TO EACH OTHER AAAAH

LiuShen Omegaverse Scenario

Okay, a Scum Villain AU has been brewing in my head and I need to share it with the class.

So basically Shen Qingqiu is an Omega who has to disguise himself as an Alpha in order to fit in with the rest of the peak lords. In order to be eligible to become a peak lord, you have to be an Alpha, and thus all of the other peak lords are Alphas. When Shen Qingqiu transmigrated, he realized that the original goods had been hiding his status as an Omega the entire time, and just continued doing it for the sake of his image (and to avoid political drama of course)

So of course, this means that whenever Shen Qingqiu goes into heat, he secludes himself inside the Bamboo House to suffer through them on his own. Even though this is detrimental for his health, he would rather die (again) than out himself, and he would rather die TWICE than to leave the mountain and find an Alpha who would be willing to help him. Yeah. NO.

So basically, one time while Shen Qingqiu is going through his heat, Liu Qingge shows up unexpectedly for one reason or another. He senses something is off with Shen Qingqiu, but it doesn't click for him what's going on at first. That's when Shen Qingqiu realizes that Liu Qingge is not an Alpha.

He's a Beta.

As a Beta, Liu Qingge gets the faintest whiff of Shen Qingqiu's pheromones; because the scent is so light, it takes him a hot minute to realize that they're coming from SQQ. Shen Qingqiu is surprised to learn that Liu Qingge is also hiding his identity and pretending to front as an Alpha, but this also spawns a reluctant thought in his Heat-induced brain.

Maybe Liu Qingge could...help?

He dismisses it at first and is actively trying to get Liu Qingge to LEAVE, but the more adamant he acts, the more Liu Qingge gets suspicious/worried for his health. So finally, Shen Qingqiu makes the impulsive decision to awkwardly ask Liu Qingge for help.

It should be fine, since he's a Beta and not an Alpha. Shen Qingqiu would never ask an Alpha for help. Betas are more gentle and they have better control over their instincts. Liu Qingge is freaking out a little, of course, because he's never done anything intimate before, but also still wants to help Shen Qingqiu through his heat.

So he does, but of course things don't go as planned. In the deepest throes of their passionate love making, Liu Qingge accidentally marks Shen Qingqiu. Now, the mark of a Beta isn't as powerful as the mark of an Alpha, BUT STILL.

Shen Qingqiu is FUCKED. He's freaking out, because "Holy shit, you fucking marked me! This is what I was trying to avoid! Everyone is going to find out that I'm an Omega!" And Liu Qingge is freaking out because "Holy shit, I marked him. I fucked up. I fucked up really bad."

So their solution? They clumsily form the idea to fake a bonding ceremony and pretend to be fated mates. Two Alphas being fated mates is relatively rare, so the two of them can use this as an excuse for why it took so long for them to "notice the spark." One Beta and one Omega pretending to be two Alphas in a functioning relationship and totally not a marriage of convenience.

While all of this is happening, Luo Binghe is in the Endless Abyss, and his timeline is similar to that of the canon universe. Luo Binghe is an Alpha, and still has his heavenly demon heritage. Anyways, he comes back from the Endless Abyss to lay claim on his shizun, only to find out:

His shizun smells different. Luo Binghe has his shizun's scent memorized, and he would immediately be able to tell if another Alpha marked him

He realizes that not only does his shizun smell different, he's actually marked! Taken!

What do you think Luo Binghe will do when he not only realizes that his shizun is an Omega, but that his shizun was marked by a BETA? AND the two of them faked their bonding ceremony?

Oh, he's pissed. He's LIVID.

But Liu Qingge And Shen Qingqiu gradually start to acclimate to the other, and soon their feelings for each other become genuine amidst the broiling political turmoil they will soon be entrenched in.

That's as far as this idea reaches. But I'm having a lot of fun with it. Maybe I'll write something!

I personally love LiuShen more than BingQiu, but it isn’t necessarily due to a dislike of Binghe. I do enjoy their 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴 for 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴 relationship and Binghe’s general obsessiveness and “yandere-ish” qualities—coming from the BSD fandom, I’m generally well adjusted to ships with weird or somewhat unrealistic (or dare I say fictionally toxic) dynamics. (Unrelated shoutout to SSKK and FyoLai specifically)

I don’t really see BingQiu is inherently toxic, but I do agree with OP that Luo Binghe’s character developement had a lot of untapped potential. I do want to cut MXTX some slack in this department since SVSSS was her first series.

Maybe I’m a little biased because Liu Qingge is personally my favorite character, but I find that the dynamic for LiuShen is super cute and also funny. And, there is also SO MUCH angst potential. I do also prefer LiuShen over LiuJiu as well.

I do want to note, though, that I love all of the Shen Qingqiu (Shen Yuan) ships and I also love how open the fandom is with shipping him with almost the entire cast LOL. As an avid multishipper I always have a great time.

And depending on how you play your cards, there are so many different fonts for LiuShen to exist within. Oblivious LQG? It works. Oblivious SQQ? Biblically accurate. Both of them are in love and oblivious? Yeah, I can see it. LQG being aware of his feelings but is just REALLY BAD AT FLIRTING? Fucking hilarious. LQG pining over SQQ but the author makes BingQiu the main pairing? I’LL JUST WEEP BLOOD, THANKS. (I’m still gonna eat it up) SQQ being aware of his feelings [RARE] and LQG is really SHY AND DOESN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO? Cute and also really funny.

BINGQIU VS LIUSHEN/ANY OTHER SHIP WITH SQQ PART 1

BEWARE I HAVENT READ SVSSS IN A WHILE AND I MIGHT’VE MISSED SOME STUFF! Feel free to correct and give your opinions about this.

Theres gonna be two parts to this bc tumblr can’t take all my writing sooooo 😛

In the SVSSS fandom, I’ve noticed that compared to other mxtx’s novels, the mc gets shipped with half of the cast more often and is more widely accepted in the fandom compared to the tgcf and mdzs fandoms (if you ship Hualian or Wangxian with anyone, it will get you death threats, istg 😓). However, with Shen Qingqiu, while of course he gets shipped with his love interests, another really popular one is him with Liu Qingge and many other characters in the novel. I do think this also has to do with the fact that the fandom is more chill than the other two fandoms. Shen Qingqiu in general is just VERY shippable. But why? Why do some people like liushen more than bingqiu? Obviously, I know this is simply a preference, but why do people prefer it more than the canon couple? Well, I have some speculations. First, while I love Bingqiu, I can admit that their relationship is not for everyone; even for me, they’re my least favorite main couple of the three (it's just my opinion, DONT ATTACK ME🙏) because their dynamic can be seen as somewhat toxic. Luo Binghe is very obsessive and kind of yandare like in the novel, and yes, he does have character development and regrets his actions and never really wanted to hurt Shen Qingqiu. I personally don’t feel like we see as much of this development until the very end. At least for me, I feel like we should’ve spent more time with a changed Luo Binghe, and I KNOW he was influenced by Xi Mo. I still didn’t feel completely satisfied with the Luo Binghe arc. I do think we see more of his development in the extras, which is what made me like Bingqiu a lot more, but I just wish we could’ve seen this in the main story instead of optional extras because I think the extras really show Luo Binghe’s growth and his love for Shen Qingqiu in a healthier way. I am aware this boy is very mentally ill. While I’m not a writer, as a reader, I think mxtx could’ve done more for him because he can end up more dislikable for some people and just less appealing of a love interest. I personally LOVE Luo Binghe and how chaotic he is, but again, that is not for everyone, so I can definitely see why some people don’t like him as much. With Shen Qingqiu, this is a bit different. I felt that by the end of the novel he had massive progress and huge development for his character; even if he still has his flaws, you can really tell he has changed and grown throughout the story, but he’s still himself if that makes sense. I felt wayyy more satisfied with his arc than Luo Binghe's; however, I will say that Shen Qingqiu has this sort of shame. While I wouldn’t necessarily call it internalized homophobia, he does have this sort of stigma towards gay people and him being gay himself. And while it can be funny, if you really think about it, even by the end of the novel and in the extras he still has this shame of sleeping with Binghe and showing basic affection, but I won’t really criticize this much because he does improve in this a lot by the extras. By that point, it really feels more like shyness than the shame he felt at the beginning when he first discovered Luo Binghe's feelings. So I will argue that Shen Qingqiu arc is pretty well done and concluded by the end of the book; at least to me, it really did feel like he changed. Okay, so the second reason is because Bingqiu got together when they were both still ‘not at their best’. What do I mean by this? Well in tgcf Xie lian had to endure a lot of torture and experience several traumatic situations and almost released face disease and killed a bunch of people with it. He was clearly very mentally unwell! And for Hua Cheng, he also went through a lot of trauma with his mom dying when he was young and the abuse he went through from his father and the kids who made fun of him to the point where he wanted to end his life, and then later he became a ghost with his parasocial attachment to a god. We see these characters at their worst, but when they get together, they are already 800+ years old and have lived a long life and matured and learned from their experiences.

I need some time to collect my thoughts about one of the best pieces of fan-fictional media I have ever come across in my 22 (almost 23) years of living. 

I know I may be late to the party, but I just finished reading 'carve your love into my skin' by EmpressofWallachia on Ao3 (link at the bottom of this post).

It's a Soukoku fic.

This entire story was dipped in rich, compelling prose, heart shattering angst, and detailed historical accuracy of which I have never before encountered in another Bungou Stray Dogs fanfiction. This fanfic definitely falls in my top 3 fanfics of all time, if not already taking the number one spot.

The historical references were tackled intensely and seriously in gripping, nauseating (/pos) detail, and I have yet to encounter a SKK fic that was able to CHARACTERIZE Chuuya and Dazai in such an accurate way that this fic does. This fic depicts SO BEAUTIFULLY their complex feelings and emotions towards one another and expands upon it in a way that felt novel and fresh and horrifically real and sad at the same time. It felt realistic, and I loved every second of it. When this fic says its a SLOW BURN, IT REALLY MEANS THAT.

It is very rare for me to find a fanfiction that emotionally moves me in a way such as this one did: I don't know if I will ever recover, and I mean this in the BEST WAY POSSIBLE. Most fics are alright, some are even pretty good! I remember many fics and bookmark them to read again later as a little treat. But it's hard for a fic to leave an emotional impact to the extent that this one did. THIS FIC stands above the rest, and towers over everything else like the Magnum Opus of any fanfiction ever written for the Bungou Stray Dogs fandom. 

The emotions of both Chuuya and Dazai are conveyed in such a way that I can physically feel their pains and sorrows, and the story is rich and sopping with delicious angst that I lick from the boots of the author with hungry desire. I feel as though I will never hunger, so long as this fic is here to satisfy me. I will proceed to go through the five stages of grief upon knowing this fic is over, and I might never recover from knowing that there might not be any fic better than this. This is the best of the best.

i mean in a sense that injury was the only sign of his humanity. the only thing that showed he wasn't an untouchable immortal demon. and then for nikolai to hold and treasure that arm like that... so many connections to be made once i'm done sobbing about this.

Akutagawa Thoughts...

I definitely think that Akutagawa is a misunderstood character, unless he's not and I'm just rambling for no reason LOL. Regardless, he's my favorite character so I just wanna talk about him so please hear me out! (obvious spoilers ahead)

I don't think that Akutagawa is as evil as many people may portray him as. I definitely think that Akutagawa has the potential to be a good person but he simply doesn't know how to.

HEAR ME OUT THOUGH! So obviously we know that Akutagawa's childhood was not pleasant: he grew up in the slums, where it was a dog-eat-dog world. If he wasn't constantly guarded and ready to attack at any given moment, he would lose those closest to him. He grew up in an environment where, if he didn't learn to kill others, both he and his sister would not survive. This was all that he knew, up until Dazai took him in and inducted him and Gin into the Port Mafia.

From there, what he already grew up with was enforced tenfold. Though he wasn't living in squalor anymore, he was raised in a world where killing was the only way for him to survive. Not to mention all of the trauma and the inferiority complex Dazai gave him.

While I don't think that Akutagawa should necessarily be excused for hurting Kyouka, but I also think this is an excellent example of how the cycle of abuse works. Abuse and survival are all that he has ever known, and I think that in a sense he was trying to teach Kyouka that this was how life operated in the Port Mafia. Trying to see the light, being a good person, and acting on one's feelings could very easily lead them to an early death. Think of Odasaku. The Port Mafia is not the place or profession for one to be weak or soft, and Akutagawa was probably trying to rid Kyouka of what he perceived as "weakness," unaware of what the actual truth was. (The truth being that there is good and light and that Kyouka should not be shamed for wanting to be a good person).

I think that Akutagawa has the potential to be good and we can see this very clearly through Wan, as well as Beast. Akutagawa has been upholding his 6 month promise to Atsushi not to kill, and although this may be for his own desire to fight Atsushi rather than an innate desire to be a better person, we at least know he is capable of not killing.

In Beast, the entire premise is that Akutagawa joins the ADA (I've only read the first two volumes to bear with me here); But I don't think a person who is inherently bad would care that much about their friends and family (Gin). Also, the fact that he got mad at Tanizaki for treating Naomi roughly during the entrance exam also shows that Akutagawa has human empathy (even if Naomi liked the rough treatment but we don't need to talk about that).

Another thing to mention here is that Akutagawa ONLY knows how to be in fight or flight mode and he GENUINELY only knows how to respond in extremes. When he's supposed to question people, he threatens them. And when he wants something, he can only think of using violence or force to achieve his goal. He is a direct product of his upbringing in the slums. (and in the main storyline, the Port Mafia as well).

And when we get later into the manga (main canon) we can also talk about how in Chapter 88 we can see how much Akutagawa has changed and the amount of influence Atsushi has had on him. Akutagawa sacrificed his life for Atsushi, knowing that he himself didn't have much time left. The CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT he had to undergo to get to this point *sobs incoherently*
