Alright, let’s talk about it: Everyone keeps complaining that no one interacts, but at the same time, the only thing I see is "interact with me/my blog" and then? Nothing...

So, instead of just shouting into the void, why not write what you actually want? Angst? Fluff? Silly moments? Drama? Long-term arcs? Just say it, and people will know how to approach you!

1. Use the Resources Available!

I have already built multiple blogs to help people interact, but they only work if you use them!

→ The @bsd-rp-masterlist sorts everyone by organization, AU, etc. It’s literally designed for you to find people easily!

Example: "I have an OC in the ADA. Let’s check who else is there and start a conversation!"

The Masterlist also collects independent characters: consider recruiting them into organizations or even founding your own! If you see someone missing, help me find and add them!

→ @bsd-yokohama: This isn’t just a generic rp setting. It’s a city I carefully mapped out based on BSD’s unique version of Yokohama. Many places in BSD don’t exist in real life, so I used Google Street View to find the location where it could be and marked them accordingly. I’ve included key spots from the series and made sure to create a city that feels immersive and alive. Use it to place your character in specific locations and build natural interactions!

→ @bsd-bdays helps you check who has a birthday coming up so you can throw maybe an rp party!

2. Let’s Make the World Feel Alive

We all live in the same city. Why don’t we act like it? If we were actually in Yokohama, we wouldn’t just sit at home screaming "Interact with me!" and then sulk when nothing happens. We’d go out and do things. So let’s create events and shared moments:

I already made 2 missions, but I also want to introduce city-wide events. And not just any events, but events that make your characters feel real. What are they passionate about? What skills or professions do they have? Let’s bring that into the city!

→ A writer could host a book reading or a literary discussion at a café.

→ A painter might hold a vernissage at the Yokohama Museum of Art.

→ A detective character could get involved in solving a high-profile case.

→ A journalist might uncover a major scandal.

→ A chef could organize a ramen contest.

→ A scientist might present a breakthrough discovery.

→ A local bar could host a karaoke night that gets wildly out of hand.

Think outside the box! Yokohama isn’t just a backdrop! It’s a city waiting to be lived in. If you have an idea that could work as a mission or a city-wide event, tell me (@bsd-yokohama)! I’d love to incorporate it!

3. Small Groups & Social Bonds

Something I love from Vampire the Masquerade (which I rp in real life as pen&paper) is forming small groups, "coteries", even across enemy factions:

→ Why not have an ADA, Port Mafia, and Guild member who always meet at the cemetery for goth picnics?

→ Or create independent gangs, new organizations, or just a group of friends who always hang out at the same bar?

Think beyond basic interactions – build something that lasts!

4. Get Out There & RP!

BSD Locations- Yokohama Visit 2024 - Part 1

I made a trip to Yokohama for the first time!! This was probably one of the most awaited trips of my life!! I planned a one day trip by myself and wanted to share my experience here, and journal all my thoughts so I'm really excited to make this post (or rather series of posts) :'D

I sat down and speed-ran the anime episodes to catch glimpses of the areas and make a compilation list of all the places featured in the series! I tried to create a route that would make it easy for me to go around on foot to all the places, so I'm going to share all the places in the order I visited them! There is probably a better route to follow than this one but this was the best I could come up with, in the short time I had and my poor organizing skills lol.

It was only afterwards I stumbled upon other posts and blogs with all the locations listed in greater detail lmaoo.

Here are some of the references I could find that were extremely helpful to get around!!

So without further ado, here is my BSD pilgrimage in Yokohama~! XD

1. Yokohama Station East Exit (S1EP8)

This is the place where Atsushi goes shopping with Yosano and meets Kyouka for the first time! I really loved how similar the signboards were too!

2. Yokohama Station West Exit, Fifth Avenue, Sotetsu Side (S1EP8)

Right outside Yokohama Station, it seems Kyouka waited here for Dazai to appear for many days. It was a quiet street with many eateries. It must be crowded during peak hours though. It's easy to get here if you're following the signboards correctly (I did not tho and ended up missing it the first time I passed it lol).

3. Okano Crossing (S1EP12)

This place is where Atsushi and Tanizaki fight Lucy and even run into Mori for the first time. It's just about 10 minutes walk from Yokohama Station. I walked back and forth so many times to get a good picture because there was so much sunlight lmao.

4. Motomachi Street (S1EP2, OVA, S3EP30)

This area is featured a lot in the series. It's a really lovely shopping street and seemed like a nice place to just walk around during your free time. There were a lot of sitting areas to rest and the place was also decorated with Christmas decorations in this time of the year! I think I was the most excited to be here hahaha.

I only realized later that there were two entrances with the bird statue so the last images don't match lol. The correct one is in the first image.

I took a train from Yokhama Station to Ishikawacho Station to get here but Motomachi-Chukagai station (which also appears in the anime) is actually closer to the part of the shopping street featuring in the in the episode, so it was probably better to start from there lol.

I've been rereading bsd, and this detail is insidious in the context of Ango's suggestion to Dazai that the Guild has infiltrated the Japanese government.

As an example of a bsd worldbuilding detail that suggests a lot but which may be easily glossed over: in Osamu Dazai's Entrance Exam, Kunikida calls the US Embassy in Tokyo, Japan "the largest foreign territory in Japan."

There are two reasons to flag this as quirky and therefore meaningful to bsd's worldbuilding: (1) the irl US doesn't own the land on which the US Embassy sits since Japan and the US were at war when Japan declared all leased foreign land for embassies would be transfered to outright ownership, potentially implying that Japan and the US were not at war in bsd's 1940s; (2) even if Kunikida was including leased land as "foreign territory," the US Embassy isn't the largest embassy in Japan— the UK Embassy is, even after the UK transferred 20% of its leased land back to Japan in 2013.

I haven't yet decided what I want to infer from this, but it's certainly a choice.

Can we stop and think about how Atsushi broke Akutagawa's jaw on the second fight? Like, as a direct effect from breaking the Spatial Shield?

Atsushi must absolutely TERRIFY some people, especially in the Port Mafia. He's come out of nowhere, terrorized police enough to get the Armed Detective Agency involved, has an enormous bounty in his head that the Port Mafia hasn't yet collected, and he broke Akutagawa's jaw. He broke Akutagawa's jaw, who was basically untouchable.

Give me my cryptid Atsushi, give me the lower ranks of the Port Mafia, hell, maybe even some of the higher ranks, fearing him.

Yokohama: A city divided. New vs. Old. Modern vs. Traditional.

Here, the Port Mafia HQ stands in the contemporary New Town, while the Armed Detective Agency maintains its bureau in the historic Old City.

Perhaps Mori and Fukuzawa's contrasting styles – Mori's modern attire versus Fukuzawa's strict traditionalism – reflect the very soul of Yokohama.

Just my two cents I had in mind, while I made the yokohama map back then and forgot to share. :3

5. Motomachi Plaza (S3EP30)

The place where Higuchi was spying on Gin and then runs into Atsushi and Kunikida lol. Its a small mall (?) overlooking Motomachi street, the exact street where Atsushi and Dazai were walking in season 1 episode 2. She was spying from the first floor and honestly, it was a fairly noticeable place, hardly ideal for spying on anyone lmao. No wonder Atsushi and Kunikida noticed her immediately 😂

6. Yokohama Chinatown (S1EP9, S3EP30)

Only about 5 minutes walk from Motomachi street is Chinatown. Honestly I was kinda amazed at how near identical even the path leading to Chinatown was. I had to wait for a while for the signal to turn green. Having an ability like Katai would have been convenient hahaha XD. Gin's escape route in the anime is quite realistic from the point of view of the actual locations, which is just incredible!

The gate is so identical in the second screenshot and I noticed later that even the 7-eleven on the right makes an appearance in the anime. The gate in the first screenshot is probably a different one though :')

7. Yokohama Kantei Temple (S3EP36)

This temple only makes a brief appearance in the anime, when Tanizaki is talking to Dazai on the phone after his surgery. It's a really beautiful temple located inside Chinatown. There was another temple that looked similar, but that turned out to be a different one lol. You have to pay if you want to enter into the main shrine, otherwise it's free to enter :)

While I was taking some pictures, I unexpectedly ran into a couple of BSD fans here who saw my Kunikida ita bag lol XD. They were from Kyoto and were visiting Yokohama on the same mission as me HAHAHA. It was really wholesome and I was so happy to know there were other fans curious about the real life locations like me!!

8. Nippon Yusen Hikawa Maru, Yamashita Park (S3EP31)

Such a lovely place to spend the day, maybe even at night, walking around!! There were many benches and sitting areas to relax and catch up. I could have taken a similar picture to the anime, but I obviously got it wrong lol. This place was about 8-10 minutes walk from the temple in Chinatown. I think you can enter the cruise museum for a small fee. I only went to the souvenir shop outside in the port area to buy some souvenirs, and the cashier there was also a BSD fan!! They said their favorite character was Akutagawa! 🥹

9. World Square (S3EP30)

This is close to Yamashita Park, but honestly it was so much farther than I expected, and there's so many stairs to climb too. (My legs were already killing me at this point and it was just noon with still many places to cover 😭). Katai confessed his feelings to Gin here, and honestly I would hardly consider the actual location to be an ideal spot for a confession ajdlslfsjk. The fountain wasn't really working, there were many leaves scattered about and also it's so far away from Chinatown. How did they even get to this place? It was a nice and quiet neighborhood without too many people around though, so it's good for a private discussion I suppose.

10. Yokohama Marine Tower (S4EP41)

You can see the tower from this square too. This is the place where Ranpo and Poe meet Mushitarou in S4. I was planning to go to the actual tower after lunch, but as expected I couldn't manage my time very well considering I still had many other places I wanted to visit remaining in my list ajdlslfsjk.

If you have enough time, could you please write about Fyodor, Dazai, chuuya, and tecchou (You could add more if you want) reacting to their s/o pinching, squeezing, and kissing their both cheeks with a slight nibbling on them? If you don't mind, ty.

This request is so cute and sweet that Ranpo is going to try and steal it. For which I am also adding him to the headcanons~

Fyodor Dostoevsky 

I imagine it takes a little while for you to gather the courage to do this. While Fyodor has a very pretty face, his aloof demeanour and sinister edge don’t encourage people to touch him casually. Obviously, as his partner you have much more freedom in this sense, but it was probably still a while before you reached out and pinched his cheek.

Fyodor’s surprise is fascinating to see. He lets out a small, throaty laugh, raising an eyebrow at you for your impulsive gesture. 

“What prompted that, may I ask?”

His amusement is only compounded when you follow your pinching up with kisses. He’ll allow you to get away with it for a moment or two before he takes your chin and asks if you’re so terribly in need of his attention. If you ask ever so sweetly, he might just give it to you. 

Dazai Osamu

No matter how gently you pinch his cheek, Dazai will overplay it. He’ll widen his eyes into big chocolate brown pools and pout, clutching his cheek (conveniently trapping your hand against the side of his face).

“You’re so cruel, bella!” he proclaims. 

He’ll require you to kiss it better, and will not stop at just one. It’ll take multiple kisses to stop “the pain”.

Despite all his whining, Dazai enjoys your soft, playful affection. Just be warned that he’ll repay you tenfold, and probably in public, too. He has no shame, (which is incredibly ironic when you consider the first line of No Longer Human). 

Nakahara Chuuya

Chuuya cleaves very tightly to his “tough guy” reputation. He’s slick, he’s cool, he’s a dangerous executive from the Port Mafia. He can’t be having you pinching his cheeks and cooing at him over how cute he is. Even if he is pretty cute. 

It’s a little bit hypocritical, since one of his favourite “cool guy” ways to greet you is to pinch your cheek and be like, “Hey, dollface.” 

If you do it, be prepared for him to sputter and turn his face away, his ears burning red and starting to blend in with his hair. 

“Tch, the hell was that for?!”

He’s a little mollified if you follow it up with a kiss, but only moderately. He frowns at you in that grumpy way of his and rolls his eyes. “Fine, you’re forgiven. Just don’t ever do that in front of the guys, you got it?”

Suehiro Tetchou

Tetchou’s face doesn’t show much reaction the first time you reach out and pinch his cheek, squishing the flesh of his face between your thumb and forefinger. His eyes slide toward you, but apart from a blink, he seems stoic.

“Are you testing the strength of my facial muscles?” he asks, quite serious. “I can make them stronger. I will.”

You have to explain to the dolt that it’s just an expression of affection. You’ve also developed a habit of kissing those three little markings under his left eye. He normally shuts that eye and lets you get away with it. 

Edogawa Ranpo 

I feel like this request was made for Ranpo. Amongst the right people, this young man inspires such a prodigious amount of cute aggression that you’re practically shaking with the need to pinch his cheeks. 

Depending on his mood and current snack level, Ranpo might placidly accept it as you tug on his cheek like it’s made of playdoh, or he might bat your hand away like a cat, or he might try to nip at your fingers. 

He might pout a little when you grab his face in your hands and start covering his cheeks in kisses, muttering that he is a grown man, you know. That said, he doesn’t mind being considered cute and adorable, so long as you recognise he’s the World’s Greatest Detective. 

“If I’m so cute, why aren’t you spoiling me more?”
