Blake and I headed up into the mountains yesterday to make the most of a glorious spring day, which was cool and illuminated by a beautful, flooding sunlight. At this time of year, there is still significant variation in the progression of the spring forests from the valleys to the summits, often with a temperature differential of from 5 to 10 degrees. Down on Gandy Creek, the fly fisherman were out in force after a trout stocking, but Blake's fly-fishing gear is out of commission right now, so he could only watch in envy. He's a great salamander hunter, however, and he did catch a gorgeous northern two-lined salamader (Eurycea bislineata), which reaches its southern-most range around these parts.

Died April 8th, 1988 (age 66), in Martinez, California

Joe Ramirez enlisted in September 1942 (age 20) in San Francisco, CA, and he trained with Easy Company at Toccoa. Holding the rank of Private, he served in Normandy, Holland, and Bastogne. He was hospitalized in January 1945, and discharged in July 1945. After the war, he was married for many years, and had children and grandchildren. When he passed away he was buried with his wife, who had passed away 11 years earlier. Further information about him is scarce, but the brief character profile in the Band of Brothers series bible describes him as Mexican-American, and his personality as "sensitive and nervous."

“Baby.” Tommy says, a warning in his tone. “We have guests.”

“So what?” Buck murmurs, nuzzling his face in the crook of Tommy’s neck, not able to resist sinking his teeth into the skin of his shoulder lightly. “We can sneak away for a minute, can’t we?”

“We’re the hosts, Evan.” Tommy laughs, but it does sound a little breathy, and Buck smiles to himself. He loves getting Tommy worked up, and loves the effect he has on him. “We can’t just disappear.”

“Why not? You’re so hot I can’t even think about anything else right now.” Buck complains. Tommy chuckles breathily, shakes his head.

Tease Tidbit Tuesday 🏙️

I have been wanting so desperately to write the past few days but a cold has my sinuses putting so much pressure on my head I feel like it’s going to explode, plus it’s school holidays and it’s been raining so I’ve got two very energetic kids with cabin fever running around causing mayhem 😅.

BUT! I did manage to write a little something for LA Lonely so yay (even though it may not be great, at least it’s words)

Buck is woken up by the shrill sound of a phone ringing. The bed jostles, Buck letting out an annoyed grumble as the warm body that is wrapped around him disappears. There is a kiss pressed to his naked shoulder, a whispered apology and then the rustling of the blankets as the person leaves the bed, answering the phone with a quiet hello.

Rolling over to check the time, Buck’s surprised to see that it’s almost 9. Usually his body clock wakes him up at 7am everyday, whether he stayed up late or not, so sleep-ins are a rare thing. He rolls onto his back, groaning as he stretches his arms up above his head. There’s a slight ache in his ass but it’s a reminder of the fantastic sex he had last night and honestly, Buck doesn’t mind the discomfort.

He hears footsteps on the stairs, the wood creaking slightly and then the most attractive man Buck has ever laid eyes on is standing at the foot of his bed wearing nothing but underwear and a soft apologetic smile that has Buck’s tummy swooping.

Eddie.

The man’s name is Eddie, Buck remembers. And remember he should because he was moaning it loud enough last night.

Eddie has a phone pressed between his ear and shoulder as he picks up his jeans and begins to awkwardly shimmy them up his legs. “I told you, I overslept. But I’m getting ready now and can be there in —” he looks down at his wrist and frowns, his eyes sweeping over the discarded clothes on the floor before zeroing in on Buck’s second nightstand where a clunky watch sits. Eddie grabs the watch, quickly checking the time before he begins strapping it on. “I can be there in 20 minutes, 15 if the traffic is good.”

Buck feels a pang in his chest and then instantly chastises himself. This was just another hookup, a one night stand —nothing more than that. He was foolish to think that what he felt last night with Eddie was anything real. It was just the hormones.

Eddie may have stayed, but that was probably because he was hoping to get lucky again this morning. Or like Buck, he slept in and didn’t get a chance to sneak out before Buck woke up.

i just read a mainstream article about the show and there are so many comments of people being hommophobic it's hilarious i can't these people have no idea how funny they are

dude this tv show has had a tornado made of BEES and you're mad that queer people exist? shows don't "need" anything, they're shows! if you don't like it just leave! GOD.

also this is a great example of why i keep saying that even tho a show has queer characters it doesn't mean it can't queerbait: a lot of homophobic audiences will tolerate a character being gay, if that character is disclosed as gay as soon as they appear on screen, because they will choose not to relate to that character. If you have a character discover their queerness as the show goes on, these people will ralate to that character and than be mad when that character turns out to be queer because "I'm not queer so this character i like/relate to can't be!". I've literally seen people say that if the show makes eddie gay, they will stop watching because this show "doesn't need another gay character" and eddie is "straight" so it will be the last straw for them.

The point of queerbaiting is to make queer people believe a character is going to discover they are queer to keep them hooked, but never commit to it so they don't alienate the homophobic audience watching it. THIS is the homophobic audience!! the same people oliver called out when 7x04 happened! they have tolerated hen and karen and josh and michael because that is what they do: they tolerate the existence of queer people, but only in specific cases. They don't actually want queer people on their screens. And that is exactly why we need more characters like buck, more slowburns, more queer characters who get the same treatment as straight couples have gotten for YEARS. Sorry for the rant but i get the "stop saying it's queerbaiting because there's queer characters on the show so it can't be" argument all the time and it sucks because all these homopobic assholes who are out there have found it in them to sort of tolerate a few gay characters on tv after years of us not even existing in media or being the butt of the joke if we did, and instead of continuing to push for more characters and normalizing our existence, people who say that argument are just catering to that homophobic audience that is ALWAYS just one queer character's awakening away from lashing out about how much they hate us and how tv is "shoving gays down their throats" and "making their children gay" or whatever. I'm tired of it and i really hope 9-1-1 makes the decision here to be better and continue pushing for more. Having two main characters who were not established as queer early on, have a slowburn romance is something HUGE that has never really happened before

@theotherbuckley told me about a Buck graffiti tag they saw and, uh, this fell out. i have no beans for it and yet that didn't deter @diazsdimples and @slightlyobsessedwitheverything from telling me it had to happen. *gestures vaguely to WIP pile and pleads for help* This is everything I have for it. bon appetit or something 🫶

After months of collecting signatures and campaigning, and even longer agonizing over whether he wanted to go through with it or not, Eddie can breathe easy. Well, a little easier at least. Because all of his efforts – including sacrificing sleep and time with his son – have finally paid off. He’s not just Eddie Diaz. He’s City Councilman Edmundo Diaz, though he really hopes people won’t be using his full name.  Getting elected, according to his campaign manager, Bobby, was child’s play. Now comes the hard work of “not pissing too many people off”. Eddie’s never had difficulty getting along with people or charming his way into a conversation. Would he prefer not to? Absolutely. But, somehow, he was graced with this gift, so he may as well use it for good.  The first order of business he intends to tackle is cleaning up the streets in his district. For the three or so years since Eddie moved to LA he’s noticed a startling amount of the local landscape changing. Sides of buildings and overpasses becoming covered with graffiti. He’ll admit some of it is impressive. Breathtaking, even. Particularly some of the larger pieces that tend to spring up overnight, always signed with a simple tribal style stag head. Regardless, Eddie made a promise and he’s going to see it through.  Bobby warned him not to expect too much initially, especially in his first year. He said that Eddie should fight for what he believes in but learn to pick his battles. Be firm but sensible. Above all, steer clear of Councilwoman Ortiz, who is entering her third and final term. Apparently, she likes to be five steps ahead and isn’t afraid to play dirty if she has to. A skill she’ll likely need if she wants to make it to the mayor’s office next term. At the moment, Eddie’s not particularly worried about her. It’s the whole reason he has Bobby to begin with. A trusted advisor, and friend, to help him be more than just fresh blood in the shark infested waters.

Haven’t had the brain capacity to get much writing done since Friday, but I did manage to tippity type a little something something for LA Lonely 🏙️ . So have some of Buck’s inner self deprecating thoughts.

As the weekend rolls into Monday, Buck tries not to think about Eddie but somehow the guy has burrowed under his skin, an itch that Buck can’t scratch. He finds himself doing a double take at every fit, 6 foot brunette man that he encounters while on a call, both disappointed and relieved that they aren’t who he’s hoping for.

Not that he’s hoping to run into Eddie again. The guy didn’t leave his number or take Buck’s, and Buck’s been playing this game for so long he knows what that means. Because Buck is only good for one night, maybe a weekend if he’s lucky. No one wants to take a chance on him.

He’s used to it, so he doesn’t understand why he can’t get Eddie out of his head. The sex was good - incredible actually - and Eddie was hot. And kind. And his smile could light up an entire room. And Buck really needed to get a grip.

Eddie had his fun and then he left. Just like everyone else.
