hey, what's up— *record scratch* *freeze frame* yep, that's me. posting a wipsday for the first time in months. you're probably wondering how i ended up in this situation.
lmfao no but yeah ngl i've mostly just been chilling on my own a lot lately. like, don't get me wrong. i love winter. but i would love it a whole lot more if it didn't marinate me in darkness sixteen hours a day, yk?
n e way i posted the first chapter of Without Sun a few days ago after having it sit completed in my drafts for over six months, and i already have the next 10k words written but it's still in shambles, i've gotta cut this whole chunk out the middle and rewrite it from scratch bc the pacing is off and i'm trying to do something really specific with Agatha in this chapter that i dunno if i'll be able to pull off—
and so i've opted to completely ignore it to inaccurately draw this scene from the first chapter instead. happy wednesday!
i dunno if i'll finish this bc i'm trying to do a whole bg thing here but i'm crap at backgrounds and learning new things is hard, but like fuck it we ball.

What the WIP Wednesday am I doing?
Okay, sooo apparently everyone is doing WIP Wednesday, today. (Okay maybe not the entire internet, but you know, there's a lot of wipsday action, today.) I thought, "Okay. Sure. I can get lost in this crowd. It's a good crowd."
So, I say to @alexalexinii, @monbons, @prettygoododds, @you-remind-me-of-the-babe, @mooncello,
@blackberrysummerblog, @fiend-for-culture, @shrekgogurt, @bookish-bogwitch, @noblecorgi,
@drowninginships, and @artsyunderstudy (who is the devil on my shoulder today apparently XD)... You are all to blame for this. Yup. Your fault. Peer pressure! (Thank you for tagging me though, I look forward to seeing what all you have happening in your creative minds. <3)
Cause. Well. I don't usually post art in progress. I'm far too anxious a person to do such a thing. It's fine if it's a sketch that's like... finished as a sketch. But in progress? *gulp*
Well, here goes.
This is what I've been working on, usually when I'm supposed to be working on something else:
Mermay!
(sorry for the low contrast, my eyes are delicate orbs that shy away from bright light...)
I did three sketches. One of which I will endeavor to color and make all nice and pretty. I've already determined it's not going to be the first one. The other two are neck-and-neck and it will likely come down to who has fins I like better. Which will it be? Tender snowbaz or playful snowbaz?
(Either way, I'm very determined to give Simon mermay wings. So that's going to happen come hell or... high water... *ahem*)
Honestly, I just really love merpeople. I'm surprised it's taken me this long to attempt this. The very first thing I ever learned to draw as a little bittle babe was a mermaid. (My teachers did not appreciate my dedication to anatomical accuracy the way I did.) Soooo Mermay? Mermay is a THING? Well, twist my arm, guess I have to snowbaz it.
(Oh, and shoutout to another guilty party, the SSCoNE server. They put the idea in my head. OH, and @cutestkilla. For general encouragment. And @hushed-chorus. For general encouragment and writing a gorgeous fic with merman Baz in it. )
Even more tagged people under the cut:
HELLO OUT THERE! @rimeswithpurple @run-for-chamo-miles @youarenevertooold @whatevertheweather @that-disabled-princess
@arthurkko @raenestee @facewithoutheart @emeryhall @agni-ashes
@skeedelvee @thewholelemon @supercutedinosaurs @tender-ministrations @bazzybelle
@ic3-que3n @imagineacoolusername @valeffelees @roomwithanopenfire @ileadacharmedlife
@aristocratic-otter @best--dress @technetiumai @brilla-brilla-estrellita @onepintobean
@palimpsessed and anyone else who wants to join in/say hi.
(I love getting tagged, because I tend to miss out on things if I don't get it stuffed into my notifications. Feel free to hit me up on Discord, too, send links. I just can't often browse tumblr as I wish. Not if I want to draw and... read... I need to do some reading...)
*Pitch Manor is still happening, I'm just taking a break to draw fish boys in between doing a few too many other things. I like being busy.

Thank You DRDT Dev!!!
I've only been a part of the fandom for like a month now (kinda crazy based on how much time and thought I've already spent obsessing over it), but I absolutely love DRDT. There are so many compelling characters, exciting mysteries and moving storylines.
I love DRDT, but something that I want to be clear about is that I also really love all the time, effort and love you clearly put into the series. I'm sure making a full-length, animated, fully sprite-ed and everything fangan takes a lot of dedication and you've done such an excellent job with it. I hope that it continues to be fun and rewarding for you, and I want to express my support for you continuing with it however works best for you.
I do also want to let you know that, in my perception, all of your audience interaction has been very kind and fun. I know my sister and I were laughing for like, a full day about how funny it was that you responded with the link to a google search of "pants pocket" when someone asked where David put his hairclips. This isn't to try to convince you to return to Q&As if you don't want to, but rather to express that there isn't anything wrong with the way you communicate and that you're someone who brings a lot of enjoyment and light to all of our lives, no matter what.
So, once again, thank you, DRDT creator! I sincerely appreciate everything you've done for us, and no matter what the future of the series is, it's something that I'll always treasure.

lbr some people are too stupid to read ulysses
Anything's possible...but as long as we're being real, how many people have even tried? It's just like with every other goddamn thing—folk on here make posts bleating about not knowing foreign languages, not understanding poetry, not reading challenging books, and not being able to sit through “slow” movies. If they actually wanted to do any of those things as badly as they say, they'd make more than a preliminary effort before getting discouraged and going back to scrolling their phones. Fortunately, most of these things will still be there, in case they decide to give themselves permission to actually engage with them, and it'll be embarrassing how quickly the very process of discovery yields up joy and meaning. If, at the end of all that exploration, they should read Lolita and confidently declare that it glorifies pedophilia, we can talk stupid.

Summerwind
I'm considering this fic a sort of practice for an original novel I will never write. It's very heavy on the original characters and the headcanons of course, being a story about Yusuf and Nicolo and their families that spans from 1074-1099. I've mapped it out to around 7 or 8 chapters, though this could change. I'm putting a lot of historical research into it, so it's been kind of a passion-project. Will get violent and all that good dark stuff, but is also quite emotional at times. It switches POV between Yusuf and Nicolo (but I promise I will get you to fall in love with at least one of the family members). I will say I can't promise a lot of romance, as I'm expecting to end it shortly after their first deaths, besides a smidge of one-sided infatuation (guess which side hehe). We know what happens to them after 1099 anyway, lol. They live happily ever after for 900+ years.
Fool's Gold
This one has needed a ton of rewriting and still might, but it's slowly getting there. There's a bit of a mystery, though I wouldn't say it's the main genre. The QQ are fleeing an accidental crime (thank Quynh), conning their way south until they stop in Tripura, starving and penniless and full of lice. As with my other QQ mysteries, they get roped into some tense affairs that shouldn't concern them. There's a European woman who's set up a mining operation on the territory, for reasons unknown to the locals. She's promising a huge reward, though, for the person who can find this unnamed thing she's searching for. There's also a very sick population who needs the money. The QQ split up in this, and the POV switches between them all. There's conning and aliases, alchemy (well, not really, but Yusuf is pretty convincing), lepers, a badass little girl and her bratty brother you'll want to kill, and there's a slightly heavier focus on Quynh.

To the unaware Kääryleet, Slush is a huge startup event and entrepreneurship conference. Startups, founders, operators, investors, media, you name it, it’s there.
Now I wonder if Jere went to the event at all or stayed the hell away from it since he was just performing at the afterparty. I’d bet at an event like that there’d be more than a few interested parties looking to strike a deal or two…
